The Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at the University of Southern California was placed on interim suspension on Wednesday, October 24, due to allegations of drug use.

According to a statement from the USC Fraternity and Sorority Leadership Development website, Pi Kappa Alpha — commonly referred to as Pike — is the fifth fraternity at USC to be suspended this year.

In addition to Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Alpha Mu, Phi Kappa Sigma, Alpha Epsilon Pi, and Pi Kappa Phi have also faced interim suspensions due to hazing allegations.

As a result of their suspension, Pi Kappa Alpha has been banned from all chapter operations, including hosting social events.

Pi Kappa Alpha and the Interfraternity Council declined to comment and directed the Daily Trojan to the Office for Fraternity and Sorority Leadership Development, which also declined to comment.

On Oct. 18, Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity, which was also placed on interim suspension for alleged hazing, filed a lawsuit against USC stating the University violated California law and University policy.

Phi Sigma Kappa president Bradley Billig said the University refused to notify the fraternity of the specific events that are put under investigation. The fraternity will appear in court on Dec. 7.

“Organizations that are being investigated for alleged violations of the code of conduct can be instructed to suspend or modify social activities pending results of an investigation,” USC said in a statement to the Daily Trojan on Oct. 18.

The suspension comes about four months after five Greek life organizations — Sigma Chi, Beta Theta Pi, Theta Xi, and Tau Kappa Epsilon- and one sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta — sued the University of Southern California for what they perceive as a violation of their first amendment rights.

The suspension of Pi Kappa Alpha at the University of Southern California is the latest major fraternity or sorority lawsuit, investigation, suspension or closure in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Wake Forest University, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State University, and Penn State have all suspended fraternities in the wake of hazing and alcohol deaths.

These reports come amidst similar allegations that have been made against fraternities nationwide, including Sigma Alpha Epsilon at East Carolina University, who was shut down for hazing and the Lambda Chi Alpha chapter at the University of Arkansas which has been accused of taking sexually explicit photographs of women without their permission.

In response to incidents like these, fraternities such Phi Kappa Psi have made numerous changes to their code of conduct in an effort to address the issues that have arisen. In addition, schools such as Texas State, West Virginia University, and Penn State University have introduced new Greek Life rules to try and prevent these problems.

Reports indicate that multiple people have been killed after a gunman began shooting inside the Tree Of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Police have confirmed to WPXI that there are “multiple” casualties, saying that “at least four” people are dead.

The synagogue was reportedly crowded for a Saturday service. The shooting happened at around 10 a.m. local time. The Pittsburgh Public Safety Department first tweeted about the shooting at 10:24 EST.

At this time, there are unconfirmed reports of multiple victims. Additionally, there is an unconfirmed report that the unidentified suspect shot at responding officers.

The status of the suspect is unknown at this time and the exact amount of injuries or fatalities are also unknown. Police are currently on the scene at the synagogue, which is located at 5898 Wilkins Ave, in Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Public Safety Department has asked the media to stop calling all Public Safety cell phones because it “is draining batteries and interfering with communications.” Additionally, police have asked people to “stay in their homes”.

UPDATE: According to reports, a suspect, described as “a white male with a beard”, was taken into custody for his involvement in the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting in Squirrel Hill. The suspect was reportedly injured when he surrendered after exchanging gunfire with police.

While a motive and identity have yet to be released, there are reports that the suspect expressed anti-Semetic views as heard on the police scanner.

Original Story: Reports surfaced Saturday morning of an active shooting near The Tree of Life Synagogue in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A heavy police presence was spotted in the area, though few details were immediately made available.

There are reported mass casualties.

At least four people have been reported dead, possibly as many as 7 to 8 could be dead, according to KDKA. WHNT-15 reports officials say four people are dead on the main floor and three in the basement of the building, with multiple other injuries.

The synagogue was preparing for a service at the time police received calls that members of the congregation were barricaded inside.

Police reportedly exchanged gunfire with the suspected gunman, with three officers getting wounded.

Members of the congregation have been rescued, while efforts to rescue others continue.

“There is an active shooter in the area of WILKINS and Shady,” the Pittsburgh Public Safety Department said in a tweet. “Avoid the area. More info will be released when it is available.”

Witnesses who called 911 said the gunman walked into the synagogue and opened fire, but other details were not immediately known. Police were searching the building as of 10:45 a.m. to evacuate those trapped.

Bowers was active on the social media platform Gab and was very active, even posting a message hours before his rampage which left multiple congregation members dead and three police officers wounded.

Before the shooting, Bowers posted a message which read:

Bowers was also very critical of President Donald Trump, blasting the man in the Oval Office for being a “globalist” and claiming that he was too liberal. He also followed the dark conspiracy QAnon.

Trump said that Bowers deserves the death penalty.

Robert Bowers, a 46-year-old antisemitist, was identified and arrested as the alleged gunman who opened up on The Tree of Life, a Pittsburgh synagogue in the city’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood. Bowers open-fired on a service, killing at least 10 and wounding an additional three police officers on the scene before surrendering and being taken into custody.

In today’s politically charged climate — especially after Cesar Altieri Sayoc Jr. was arrested for sending multiple explosive devices to prominent Democrats from his MAGA-themed van — people began wondering whether Bowers was a left- or right-leaning extremist.

As it turns out, Bowers had no political affiliation.

According to the Pennsylvania voter registration database, Bowers was an “unaffiliated voter.”

The helicopter of Leicester City owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha has crashed outside the King Power Stadium in Leicester, England. At this time, it is unclear if the billionaire owner was on board the helicopter.

At this time, there is no word on any injuries or fatalities. The identity of the passengers is unknown and it is unclear if there were any survivors.

Leicester police said in a statement: “We are dealing with an incident in the vicinity of the King Power Stadium. Emergency services are aware and dealing.”

According to Sky News, the helicopter reportedly spun out of control and crashed near the stadium.

Video and pictures from the scene posted to social media show a large fire in what appears to be a parking lot. Emergency services are currently on the scene.

Mixed martial arts history was officially made on Saturday, October 27, 2018, when the Ultimate Fighting Championship traded former flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson to ONE Championship in exchange for undefeated welterweight star Ben Askren. It marks the first major trade in the history of MMA, with “Mighty Mouse” heading to the top Asian mixed martial arts promotion and Askren finally getting his crack in the big leagues.

Askren (18-0, 1 NC) is a former Bellator and ONE Championship champion, while Johnson (27-3-1) recently lost his title in August to Henry Cejudo.

Johnson was hoping to leave the UFC following his loss, but the UFC needed incentive to release the former titleholder from his contract, according to ESPN.com. That’s when First Round Management — which represents Mighty Mouse — came up with the idea.

The move was a natural fit, with Johnson’s AMC Pankration coach Matt Hume also serving as the vice president of operations at ONE Championship.

There is no word on when either fighter will be making their debut for their new promotions.

Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, the owner of Premier League football club Leicester City, has reportedly been involved in a fiery helicopter crash. The helicopter crashed around 8:38 p.m. local time outside the King Power Stadium after Leicester City’s 1-1 draw against West Ham United. The helicopter was reportedly owned by Srivaddhanaprabha.

Following the crash, Leicester police said in a statement: “We are dealing with an incident in the vicinity of the King Power Stadium. Emergency services are aware and dealing.”

Video from the scene showed a raging fire in what appears to be a parking lot near the stadium.

According to reports, Srivaddhanaprabha was on-board the eight-seater helicopter that was en-route to London. The helicopter failed upon take-off which resulted in a fire prior to a crash in the car park.

It hit the ground with a big bang then burst into flames,” Leicester fan and season ticketholder Tim Acott told The Guardian. “It’s over on the other side of the car park, I don’t think there were people there. I’m shaking like anything.”

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned north of the border on Saturday, October 27 for UFC Fight Night 138: Volkan vs. Smith at SMG Moncton in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. The main event was in the light heavyweight division between No. 2-ranked contender Volkan Oezdemir and Anthony Smith, who is ranked No. 10 at 205 pounds.

In the co-main event, Artem Lobov faced off against Michael Johnson, who is a late replacement for Lobov’s originally scheduled opponent Zubaira Tukhugov. Tukhugov was pulled from the bout following his involvement in the post-UFC 229 fracas between his teammate Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor, who is a teammate of Lobov.

Overall, it was an incredible night of fights with back-and-forth action, impressive submissions, and knockouts, and a perfect fight to end the night.

UFC light heavyweight contenders Anthony Smith and Volkan Oezdemir headlined UFC Fight Night 128 at Avenir Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada on Saturday, October 27. Smith entered the bout as the No. 10 fighter in the division, while Oezdemir was favored as the No. 2-ranked contender.

Following Saturday’s bout, the division has been turned on its head.

Smith was able to weather the early storm against Oezdemir before turning up his own pressure and landing some heavy shots. Smith eventually changed levels midway through the fight and landed a takedown which proved to be what he needed to run away with the big submission victory that officially puts him in the upper echelon of the 205-pound weight class.

For his efforts, Smith earned a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus.

Thomas Mark Harmon born on Septemeber 2nd, 1951 in Burbank, California. Following the end of that show, Harmon was cast in the hit medical drama St. Elsewhere. He joined a star-studded cast as he played Dr. Bobby Caldwell alongside Denzel Washington, David Morse. Ed Begley Jr., William Daniels, and Howie Mandel. Harmon’s role was critical in promoting awareness about AIDS, after having his character contract the disease the third season of the show.

St ElseWhere to NCIS: 1986-Present

In 1986, Harmon took on his most insane role yet, playing Ted Bundy the notorious serial killer in the TV movie The Deliberate Stranger. But this dark and gruesome role did not affect the way people viewed Harmon. Mark was named People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” in 1986. After guest starring and having small roles in countless other shows, Harmon took on Chicago Hope another medical drama in 1996. He played the role of an orthopedic surgeon. After the end of the show in 2000, Harmon played small roles in some made for TV movies. His next big break would be the hit show NCIS.

The producer of NCIS Don Bellisario was a fan of Harmon’s work from the beginning. But after seeing Harmon on The West Wing, he knew mark would be the perfect fit for his latest project. Harmon was cast as the lead investigator Leroy Jethro Gibbs, in the military crime procedural drama NCIS. Mark had the perfect personality to play this rough around the edges character. On Saturday, October 27, 2018, a gunman entered The Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood as a service was underway. The suspect barricaded members of the congregation and open-fired, killing 11 innocent souls and injuring six others. The shooter then turned his gun on police officers, injuring four, before he surrendered into police custody.

It is a tragedy that rocked the local community and has the neighborhood in mourning, even more now that the victims in the massacre have been identified.

On Sunday, October 28, all of the victims were identified with ages ranging from 54 to 97 years old. Among the victims were a pair of brothers and a husband and wife.

What Happened?

Robert Bowers entered The Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill tunnel where he opened fired on a full congregation. After taking multiple lives and exchanging gunfire with police, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody.

A total of 11 victims were confirmed dead.

KDKA’s Andy Sheehan says police sources informed him the gunman walked into the building and yelled, “All Jews Must die.”

The incident began around 10:45 a.m. ET. The synagogue was preparing for a service at the time police received calls that members of the congregation were barricaded inside. Multiple casualties were immediately reported, with numbers ranging from 4 to 7.

Police exchanged gunfire with the suspected gunman, with four officers getting wounded before the suspect surrendered.

Where Is The Tree Of Life Synagogue?

Tree of Life * Or L’Simcha is a traditional, progressive and egalitarian Jewish congregation located in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood.

The website states, “Tree of Life Congregation was founded more than 150 years ago, Or L’Simcha about 5 years ago. In 2010, the two Pittsburgh congregations merged to form Tree of Life*Or L’Simcha. As a conservative Jewish congregation, Tree of Life*Or L’Simcha remains true to traditional teachings, yet is also progressive and relevant to the way we live today.”

The synagogue is located on the corner of Wilkins and Shady Avenue.

Leicester City have confirmed chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha was among five people killed in a helicopter crash on Saturday night. He was 61-years-old.

According to reports, five people were on board the helicopter: club owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, two more passengers — one being the chairman’s daughter — and two members of the crew. The helicopter was reportedly bound for London.

At this time, the Air Accidents Investigation Branch is currently leading an investigation into the accident.

Leicester City Football Club released the following statement about Srivaddhanaprabha’s passing:

“The primary thoughts of everyone at the Club are with the Srivaddhanaprabha family and the families of all those on-board at this time of unspeakable loss.

In Khun Vichai, the world has lost a great man. A man of kindness, of generosity and a man whose life was defined by the love he devoted to his family and those he so successfully led.

“Leicester City was a family under his leadership. It is as a family that we will grieve his passing and maintain the pursuit of a vision for the Club that is now his legacy.”

Under Srivaddhanaprabha’s ownership, Leicester City won the Premier League title during the 2015-16 season. Srivaddhanaprabha bought Leicester in August 2010 and became the club’s chairman less than six months later.

In addition to owning Leicester City, Srivaddhanaprabha was the founder, owner, and chairman of King Power Duty-Free.

The team’s game in the EFL cup against Southampton on Tuesday, October 30, has been postponed.

As such an accomplished wrestler at such a young age, the future is bright for Storm and another world title seems to be in the stars.
