High School Principal Replaced For Asking Student To Remove Trump Jersey

Cindy Gordon is the former principal at Harnett Central High School in Angier, North Carolina. Gordon was removed from her position after complaints surfaced that she forced a student, the 18-year-old son of Mike Collins, to remove a Donald Trump jersey at the school’s “America Night” football game.

Students were told to dress up for the patriotic-themed event, but Gordon prohibited one student from wearing his choice of clothing.

“While we cannot comment on specific student issues, the Harnett County Schools supports and affirms students’ rights to express themselves,” a spokesperson for the school district told WTVD-TV. “As long as the expression does not disrupt, and is not reasonably expected to disrupt, the educational mission of the school system, these rights include wearing clothing expressing political messages or supporting political candidates.”

Here is what we know.

What Happened?

Instagram Photo

The 18-year-old son of Mike Collins wore a jersey with the stars and stripes on the sleeves, the Statue of Liberty torch on the front along with “USA,” and “TRUMP” printed across the back for a patriotic-themed football game at Harnett Central High School in North Carolina.

Then-principal Cindy Gordon asked the student to remove the jersey which sparked complaints from spectators.

Collins’ son removed the jersey and then went home from the game. Collins says that his son was “humiliated” by the experience which is why he left after the incident.

“We don’t want any kids violated,” Collins said. “We don’t want to see kids embarrassed over something like this. He was not disrespectful. He was not acting in a manner that would cause attention to him.”

Gordon was removed from her position as principal and the school district issued a statement on the matter.

“Again, we want to emphasize that Harnett County Schools supports and affirms students’ rights to express themselves – including wearing clothing expressing political messages or supporting political candidates or officeholders – in ways that are not expected to disrupt school or school events,” the statement read, via the Daily Mail.

Hilary Brooke Thornton is the latest person to expose their ugly side to the public and it has cost her her job. Thornton was fired from her job as manager of a luxury apartment building in St. Louis after a video surfaced that shows her preventing a black man, D’Arreion Toles, from entering the building which he lives in. Once Toles made his way into the building, Thornton continued to follow him.

“You are blocking me into my building. This is my building as well. So, I need you to get out my way,” Toles says in the video which was published on his Facebook page.

Despite the unfortunate situation, Toles said that he has no hard feelings towards Thornton, who was the senior property manager at Tribeca-STL/STLCityWide. He discussed the incident with local news outlet KMOV.

“I am not mad at her. I am not upset with her. I am not going to go after her legally or anything like that. I wish her the best. I would still have a conversation with her.”

Tribeca-STL issued a statement on its decision to fire Thornton.

“Tribeca-STL was recently shared a video containing a disturbing interaction that we believe is important to clarify. The video did involve one our employees, but the event did NOT take place at Tribeca-STL and did NOT involve one of our tenants. The video is showing the employee in her private life at her own residence interacting with another person,” the statement reads.

“The Tribeca-STL family is a minority-owned company that consists of employees and residents from many racial backgrounds. We are proud of this fact and do not and never will stand for racism or racial profiling at our company. After a review of the matter, the employee has been terminated and is no longer with our company. At Tribeca-STL we want all residents, guests and visitors to feel welcome, safe and respected.”

KMOV attempted to contact Thornton, but she did not respond to any request for comment.

Deontay Wilder is one of the scariest punchers on the planet. The WBC Heavyweight Boxing Champion was recently making the media rounds when he stopped by Nacion ESPN and had an opportunity to show off his punching power. Unfortunately for the mascot on television, Wilder took his shot.

Wilder was told that he could hit the Nacion ESPN mascot anywhere he wanted, so he cocked back his right hand and threw a devastating strike down the pipe.

The punch landed square on the mascot’s face and sent him flying backward. As it turns out, Wilder actually may have done some serious damage to the man inside of the costume because reports claim the man suffered a broken jaw.

Wilder claims that he didn’t know there was a person inside of the costume, so lord only knows what kind of wizardry he thought was going on.

“I sincerely apologize to the brave man that was injured (if this is true),” Wilder wrote in a statement on social media. “I have the [utmost] respect for him, his participation, willingness and courage. If this is true, I personally would like to invite him to my Dec. 1 fight. Word is bond.”

Wilder was on a press tour promoting his upcoming fight with fellow heavyweight boxing star Tyson Fury on Dec. 1.

32-year-old Wilder will enter the fight with a perfect 40-0 record, with 39 wins coming by way of knockout. Fury, meanwhile, is also unbeaten at 27-0. The winner between Wilder and Fury is expected to face WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO champ Anthony Joshua in a title unification bout next year.

Michigan State University Becomes Latest School To Ban Hard Liquor

The President’s Council and the legislative body of the Interfraternity Council at Michigan State University have voted to ban all alcohol above 15% ABV from fraternity houses and events. The vote was passed on Wednesday, October 10.

The MSU decision to ban hard liquor comes after the North American Interfraternity Council enacted a plan in August to eliminate hard alcohol in facilities of over 6,100 charters on 800 campuses nationwide by September 1, 2019.

However, the ban does not apply to situations when the alcohol is served by licensed third-party vendors.

Greek life organizations that do not adhere to the ban could be fined, banned from hosting social events and could face further discipline from the Interfraternity Council.

The ban was explained in full on the Michigan State University Fraternity and Sorority Life’s Facebook page.

via Lansing State Journal:

Trevor Coval, council president, told the State Journal on Friday afternoon the ban took effect Wednesday and does not apply to sororities because they are already prohibited to have any type of alcohol in facilities.

“This departure from hard alcohol at fraternity events marks a significant change in the culture at Michigan State,” the council’s letter reads in part.

“We firmly believe this change will strengthen our community, and demonstrates our ability to self-govern and take proactive measures to enhance the health and safety or our members and guests, while helping to ensure Fraternity & Sorority Life at Michigan State thrives for years to come.

The vote to ban hard liquor at Michigan State is just the latest alcohol ban that universities are enacting to curb alcohol-related deaths.

WATCH: Khabib Nurmagomedov Calls Out Floyd Mayweather Jr

Khabib Nurmagomedov is fresh off of a dominant victory over Conor McGregor at UFC 229 where he retained his UFC lightweight championship via fourth-round submission. Unfortunately for Nurmagomedov, he is awaiting punishment from the Nevada State Athletic Commission for his post-fight outburst which sparked a brawl outside of the cage. But that hasn’t stopped him from eyeing his next opponent.

In a video posted to social media, Khabib had a message for a certain combat sports star.

Khabib was in his home country of Russia enjoying a World Boxing Super Series event when he ran into Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Productions.

The two men then chummed it up for the camera as Nurmagomedov directed a message at Floyd Mayweather Jr. The pitch? A match between the 27-0 unbeaten UFC champion and the 50-0 unbeaten boxing star.

“Let’s go, Floyd. We have to fight now,” Nurmagomedov said. “50-0 vs 27-0, two guys who never lose, why not? Because in the jungle there is only one king. Only one king. Of course I am the king because he could not drop McGregor and I dropped him easily. Let’s go.”

Instagram Photo

Mayweather’s last outing was a lucrative boxing match against McGregor, so could Nurmagomedov be next in line? It would certainly be interesting, and Khabib has some appeal with an undefeated record and the recent hype after steamrolling McGregor on Oct. 6 in Las Vegas.

With his win, Khabib advanced to 27-0 in his professional career. His 27 consecutive wins gives him the longest winning streak in all of mixed martial arts. Khabib first won the vacant lightweight championship on April 7, 2018 at UFC 223 when he scored a dominant decision win over Al Iaquinta in Brooklyn, New York. He became the first Russian to win a UFC title. The submission victory over McGregor was his first title defense.

Of course, this all seems to be in good fun, but you can never put anything past Mayweather when he sees a big payday in front of him.

Billy McFarland, The Con-Man Behind Fyre Festival, Sentenced To 6 Years In Prison

Fyre Festival’s YouTube

In the Spring of 2017, Fyre Festival was supposed to revolutionize party-going with its promises of luxurious amenities and rubbing elbows with celebrities.

However, as we all now know, the end product couldn’t be further from the truth, as the island that Fyre was located on lacked all the basic amenities: lodging, food, water, etc. Millennials showed up expecting days of sunshine and alcohol and ended up with hours of fright and confusion.

Now, over a year after the world’s most infamous music festival, the chickens have come home to roost for Billy McFarland, the con-man behind the infamous island disaster.

On Thursday, October 11, McFarland — who faced up to 40 years in prison — was sentenced to six years in jail and was ordered to forfeit $26 million.

via New York Times:

In March, Mr. McFarland pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud after investigators concluded that he had defrauded investors in his company, Fyre Media, as well as a subsidiary that had promoted the music festival, resulting in $24 million in losses.

Then in July, Mr. McFarland pleaded guilty to two more counts of fraud related to another company that he ran while out on bail that sold fake tickets to fashion, music and sports events and was said to have cost at least 30 victims a minimum of about $150,000.

In a sentencing memorandum, prosecutors had asked for a prison term of at least 11 years. They called Mr. McFarland “the consummate con artist,” adding: “He betrayed and deceived his investors, customers, and employees while he was living the high life at his luxury apartment, traveling to exclusive locales, staying at luxury hotels, being chauffeured in his Maserati, and entertaining himself and his friends at restaurants, bars, and casinos.”

Despite the promise of luxurious beach-front living, festival-goers arrived at Fyre Festival to find a dilapidated island that lacked basic amenities and necessities such as food, running water, and sufficient lodging.

So Fyre Fest is a complete disaster. Mass chaos. No organization. No one knows where to go. There are no villas, just a disaster tent city. pic.twitter.com/1lSWtnk7cA

Dozens of sorority sisters at the University of Virginia have learned how to defend themselves against a potential assault by learning some mixed martial arts skills.

According to a report from ABC 29, jiu-jitsu instructors from the famed Gracie Academy in Charlottesville taught sorority sisters at UVA various self-defense techniques during one of the sorority’s meetings on Sunday, October 14.

Instructors from the Gracie Academy said that these self-defense moves will make the women feel safer both on and off school grounds.

Shelby Still, one of the instructors who attended the sorority meeting, said of the training:

“When you train jiu-jitsu, and you say no — no means no. There is no gray area, you’re going to be able to disable that person who’s trying to attack you or being too pushy or whatever situation you’re in, you’re going to be able to tell them no, and no is going to mean no.”

The Gracie Academy, which will open its doors at its Charlottesville location on the corner of Seminole Trail in the next few weeks, said they are going to continue to host these type of workshops for sororities and interested business in the area.

The Gracie Academy is named after the Gracie family, a prominent martial arts family from Brazil known for their development of Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Royce Gracie, a member of the Gracie family who is considered to be one of the most influential fighters in the history of mixed martial arts, was the tournament winner of UFC 1, UFC 2, and UFC 4.
