Paola Mayfield is a star of the TLC reality series 90 Day Fiancé.

In July of 2018, the 31-year-old Mayfield, from Colombia, said she is expecting a baby boy with her husband Russ Mayfield.

90 Day Fiancé, which premiered on January 12, 2014, is an documentary series that airs on TLC that follows couples who have applied for or received a K-1 visa (available uniquely to foreign fiancés of American citizens) and therefore have 90 days to decide to marry before the visas of the foreign half of the couple expire and they must leave the United States

Mayfield posted an update photo in early October that showed off her baby bump:

“My little angel is growing healthy and stronger. I can’t wait to meet you,” one photo read.

“Our protector. We love you,” said another photo with her husband Russ.

via US Magazine:

Pao and the engineer, who tied the knot in October 2013, previously suffered a miscarriage. The pair dealt with the heartbreaking loss in different ways: She accused him of not being there for her emotionally while he argued that the model was shutting him out. They have since worked through those issues.

“The mere glimpse of our lives shown doesn’t always show our best moments but impressions and expressions from our cultural differences and how we are coming together as an even stronger couple,” Russ wrote in a July Instagram post. “I am proud of where I come from and where I”m going that’s with the love of my life.”

If you were wondering who the Florida football fan from Saturday’s win over Mississippi State, it’s none other than Kelsie Faulkner. Our friends over at Busted Coverage identified the young lady who started going viral after an old man hitting on her in the stands. Well, maybe he wasn’t exactly hitting on her in the way that Brett Musberger went after Katherine Webb, but it certainly looked like he was showing some interest.

Kelsie apparently studied cosmetology at Florida Gateway College.

Her Instagram profile says that she is a “licensed cosmetologist and certified lash artist.”

Brett Kavanaugh Will Not Return To Harvard Law

Judge Brett Kavanaugh will not teach a class at Harvard Law School in the upcoming winter, as he was expected to do, according to an email announcement from the university to its law students on Monday, October 1.

Kavanaugh has taught the course “The Supreme Court since 2005” for almost 10 years at Harvard, but he will not return to the course during Harvard’s January Term 2019.

“Today, Judge Kavanaugh indicated that he can no longer commit to teaching his course in January Term 2019, so the course will not be offered,” Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs Catherine Claypoole wrote to Harvard Law students in an email Monday night, according to the Harvard Crimson.

Students Protest Having Kavanaugh As Law Lecturer

— The Harvard Crimson (@thecrimson) October 2, 2018

The announcement followed several protests by students and alumni at Harvard, where Kavanaugh had taught since 2009. Hundreds of graduates from Harvard Law School signed a letter calling on the school to rescind Kavanaugh’s appointment as a lecturer.

“Now more than ever, HLS must send a clear message that it takes sexual violence seriously,” wrote the letter. “The accusations against Judge Kavanaugh, including those by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, are credible and grave. They seriously call into question his character and morality, and should disqualify him from a lifetime appointment as a Supreme Court Justice. They likewise should disqualify him from any position of esteem, including lectureships at HLS.”

Students also walked out of classrooms Monday, September 24 to participate in a rally protesting Harvard’s silence at the time on Kavanaugh’s scheduled course and to show solidarity with the women who have accused Kavanaugh of misconduct.

“People are coming together to say, ‘This isn’t the type of person we want teaching at Harvard Law,'” a law lecturer and 2010 graduate Jessica Lynn Corsi said. It’s an incredibly important job, she said, to shape the minds of students destined to become Supreme Court justices, legal scholars and other leaders.

More than 800 students have signed the letter in less than three days. Four Harvard Law students also called on the law school to investigate Kavanaugh, in a Harvard Law Record op-ed on Thursday, September 20according to The Daily Caller.

“Will Harvard Law School take seriously the credible allegation of Kavanaugh’s sexual assault against a young woman before he is allowed to continue teaching young women?” wrote the students. “Or will Harvard allow him to teach students without further inquiry?”

“Unless a full and fair investigation is conducted, Harvard Law School cannot allow Kavanaugh to continue teaching its students and the Senate cannot confirm him to the Supreme Court,” they added.

Yale Law Also Expressed Concerns

Besides Harvard, students and faculty at Yale Law School have also expressed concerns about Kavanaugh, both on campus in Connecticut and in Washington. Kavanaugh is a graduate of Yale College and Yale Law.

Yale Law School Dean Heather Gerken issued a statement on Sept. 24 that said 50 faculty members signed a letter calling on the Senate Judiciary Committee to conduct an investigation into allegations made against Kavanaugh.

Gerken also joined the American Bar Association (ABA) in calling for an investigation into Kavanaugh on Friday, September 28, according to a tweet.

“Proceed with the confirmation process without further investigation is not in the best interest of the Court or our profession,” wrote the statement.

Watch Some Of The Best Conor McGregor Interviews Of All-Time

YouTube/UFC

Conor McGregor is one of the most exciting and charismatic fighters in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The Irishman, who is a former two-division world champion, had some of the most entertaining interviews and call-outs the promotion has ever seen.

With McGregor set to return to action for the first time in nearly two years at UFC 229 on Saturday, Oct. 6 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas when he faces Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight championship, the UFC has put together a montage of some of the best post-fight interviews McGregor has ever given.

From being a two-division champion to working his way to the top, McGregor was always calculated in what he had to say when speaking with Joe Rogan.

You can check out some of the best Octagon interviews from McGregor below:

Conor McGregor last fought in the UFC on November 12, 2016, defeating Eddie Alvarez to claim the UFC lightweight championship. At the time of his big win, McGregor became the first fighter in UFC history to hold two titles in two different weight classes simultaneously; he was also the featherweight champion at the time. Since that fight, McGregor was stripped of both belts, welcomed his first child to the world, and dabbled in the boxing world for a superfight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. Now, he is finally ready to step back into the cage to attempt to reclaim the title that he believes is still his.

Nurmagomedov, meanwhile, claimed the vacant UFC lightweight title at UFC 223 on April 7, 2018 in Brooklyn, New York. Nurmagomedov scored a unanimous decision victory win over Al Iaquinta in the main event. Khabib was initially scheduled to fight Tony Ferguson for the title, but the bout fell through in the final days leading up to the event and Iaquinta stepped up on short notice.

UFC 229 takes place Saturday, Oct. 6 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The UFC 229 main card will air on pay-per-view, with preliminary bouts on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Along with the main event between Nurmagomedov and McGregor, other bouts currently scheduled include Sergio Pettis vs. Jussier Formiga in a battle of top flyweight contenders, former Invicta FC champion Michelle Waterson vs. Felice Herrig, Ovince Saint Preux vs. Dominick Reyes, Ryan LaFlare vs. Tony Martin, and Lina Lansberg vs. Yana Kunitskaya.

WATCH: Cops Brutalize African American Family From DeSoto, Texas

A Texan family of five was slammed to the ground after the mother called 911 for help. Sammie Anderson, the mother of four sons, called the police when she witnessed a heated argument between two of her sons. Little did she know what was about to happen.

“It was the worst decision I’ve ever made as a mom,” Anderson told Dallas Morning News.

What Happened

Police arrived at the scene with weapons drawn and immediately demanded everyone to lay on the ground to be handcuffed. An officer explained, “we’re just detaining everybody,” despite repetitive statements of a family member saying “no one is fighting.”

Sammie Anderson has a medical history of epilepsy and tells the police officers that she might have a seizure. Still, she was slammed on the ground so hard she suffered from a sprained ankle and shoulder.

Police officers were also seen tasing her 20 years old son Grant Bible.

When confronted with the reasons behind their actions, one officer replies “he was not cooperating so he got tased like he should’ve. I don’t care what’s going on — when we get here we’re in control.’’

When a complaint was filed for excessive force, Chief Joe Costa from the DeSoto police force replied that with the information they received from dispatchers and from the scene, their officers acted appropriately to the incident. However, he refused to release footage recorded by officer’s body cameras, with the defense of ongoing investigations.

It wasn’t until civil-rights activists started to call concerning the issue of police brutality, that led to the police department to finally released the 44-minute dash cam video.

According to WFAA, Anderson and two of her sons were laid off from their jobs because of days missed while they were in jail or for doctor appointments.

After the incident, Anderson makes a statement about regretting her decision to call the cops and what it means to be an African American living in America.

“I’m told by family members and other people that’s the worst thing I could do, being an African American mom with four African American sons. And it shouldn’t be that way. When I think about all the mothers out there who lost their sons the one thing I can walk away with is that mine are still here. Even though you bruised them, they’re still here. Even though you hurt them, they’re still here. They’re still here.”

Mike DuBose, a former head coach at the University of Alabama, was taken to hospital on Monday, October 1, after he after accidentally soot himself while riding a lawnmower. The gunshot wound is understood to be non-life threatening.

According to reports, DuBose drove himself to the emergency room at Mizell Memorial Hospital in Opp, Alabama, after being struck in the torso by a bullet from a .38 caliber handgun. After driving himself to the hospital, Dubose was transferred by helicopter to another hospital in Dothan, Alabama.

Reports indicate that DuBose, who was riding a lawnmower as he cut grass on his father’s property, reportedly carries the gun for protection against snakes.

DuBose underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.

via WSFA:

According to the Opp Police Department, DuBose drove himself to the emergency room at Mizell Memorial Hospital in his hometown of Opp after being struck in the torso by one bullet from a .38 caliber handgun.

After his arrival at Mizell, DuBose was transferred to another unspecified regional hospital by medical helicopter. It’s believed his injuries are non-life-threatening but no updates on his condition have been given.

Opp police say, despite some media reports, DuBose’s injuries were not the result of a hunting accident, though no other details have been released. Opp police say the Covington County Sheriff’s Office has opened an investigation into the matter.

According to the sheriff’s office, DuBose accidentally shot himself shortly before 2 p.m. near Gardners Chapel Road. That’s near Opp but not within the city limits.

WAAO-FM reports that it spoke with some of the coach’s family members who said he was on a riding lawn mower cutting grass on property owned by his father when he was accidentally struck by a bullet.

DuBose played for the University of Alabama under Paul “Bear” Bryant and was eventually named SEC coach of the year in 1999. However, DuBose resigned in the year 2000 due to his inappropriate relationship with his secretary.

Authorities say that two people were taken to the hospital due to tingling and nausea after apparently being exposed to a deadly poison called ricin at Senator Cruz’s office located at the Phoenix Towe.  Ricin is a potent toxin that can cause fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration. Only a small amount of this poison can be lethal. Exposure arises when it is inhaled, ingested, or injected and then the toxic components induce internal bleeding and respiratory failure.

Terror plots that included Ricin in Europe in the past have happened in a London Underground station in 2003 and a separate attack in Germany in June this year.

The entire 9th floor of the Phoenix Tower has been evacuated at this time. HFD HazMat is responding to the scene working to determine the nature of the substance.

The Pentagon has quarantined the mail room until more information is gathered.

CNN cited two unnamed officials who named Mattis and Richardson as the intended targets.

FAA Investigating Use Of Helicopter To Break Up Penn State Tailgate

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the Pennsylvania State Police’s use of a helicopter to clear out a group of tailgaters at the university’s game against Ohio State on Saturday, September 29.

According to reports, the Pennsylvania State Police only resorted to using a helicopter after previous methods and attempts to disperse the crowd was unsuccessful.

Initially, tailgaters ignored commands to disperse from police officers on the ground. Then, after the Pennsylvania State Police Tactical Mounted Unit was deployed, the crowd reportedly became unruly, resulting in the assault of two Pennsylvania State Police horses. Additionally, a trooper was injured, so ground police units pulled back.

Following the crowd’s treatment of the Pennsylvania State Police Tactical Mounted Unit, the Pennsylvania State Police Aviation Unit was called on, who brought in a helicopter.

The police chopper flew low enough to cause a disturbance on the ground —  such as blowing over tents and kicked up debris –and then pulled up to a higher altitude.

via NBC:

Pennsylvania State Police said Monday that a trooper suffered a broken wrist while trying to arrest a man who had allegedly struck a state police horse that was part of a horse-mounted team summoned when the party with hundreds of revelers got out of hand.

Agency spokesman Ryan Tarkowski said troopers on the ground were pulled back “in an effort to de-escalate the situation,” after which the helicopter arrived and flew low over the crowd.

“The helicopter made an initial pass at a higher altitude, but (the) loudspeaker could not be … heard,” Tarkowski said. “The second pass was lower to ensure people on the ground could hear the order to disperse. PSP helicopters may fly at an altitude that will best accomplish the mission at hand while keeping safety in mind.”

Additionally, Tarkowski stated that the man who assaulted a horse was taken into custody by university police. It has not been clarified whether or not that man was a student at Penn State.

FDA Raids Juul HQ, Seizes Thousands Of Documents

Back when I was in college, Molly was really just starting to become a thing on the party scene. And one of the things I remember most about MDMA’s explosion into American culture was the ridiculous rationale that people were spewing when they’d use the obviously deadly drug.

“It doesn’t have any long-lasting effects” or “your brain is fine afterward” were just a few of the truly ridiculous claims I heard throughout the years.

And every time I heard some festival-head told me some nonsense like that, I always had the same response: the only reason that you think it’s harmless is that it hasn’t been around long enough to harm anyone.

Years later, as we now know, scientists have since discovered that MDMA essentially burns holes in our brains (or something gnarly like that.)

The whole point of that little anecdote is to say that the same thing is happening with Juul: it’s so new and so fresh that people foolishly think it’s harmless, but really, it just hasn’t been around long enough for anyone to understand the effects.

And apparently, the FDA agrees, as they raided Juul’s San Fransisco headquarters, reportedly seizing thousands of documents.

via Chicago Tribune:

FDA inspectors seized more than 1,000 pages of documents at e-cigarette maker Juul Labs’ headquarters in San Francisco last week, part of the agency’s battle against an epidemic of youth vaping.

The surprise inspection sought information on sales and marketing practices of the company’s devices, which have become wildly popular among underage users. The Food and Drug Administration had requested similar information from Juul in April.

“Across this category, we are committed to taking all necessary actions, such as inspections and advancing new policies, to prevent a new generation of kids from becoming addicted to tobacco products,” the FDA said in a statement on Tuesday.

Juul, which was first introduced in 2015, currently controls about 72% of the e-cigarette market.

Apple Wallet Student ID: Feature Details & How To Use It

Apple has rolled out a test run of a new payment system for college students on October 2nd, 2018 at Duke University, the University of Alabama, and the University of Oklahoma. Like adding a credit card to your apple wallet, you can now do that with your ID card to pay for whatever you need at school.

Apple’s vice president of Internet Services, Jennifer Bailey, congratulates the success and innovation of its company, citing that it brought the world into a new age of convenience and mobility. Now that they have expanded their horizons into helping college students, Bailey talks about the new goals they are looking to accomplish.

“When we launched Apple Pay, we embarked on a goal to replace the physical wallet. By adding transit, loyalty cards, and contactless ticketing we have expanded the capabilities of Wallet beyond payments, and we’re now thrilled to be working with campuses on adding contactless student ID cards to bring customers even more easy, convenient and secure experiences.”

With the convenience of leaving your real wallet behind, students can now use the newly added card in their apple wallet to purchase goods or service such as coffee, lunch, merchandises, laundry, campus events, and even the library. This provides extra security for the prevention of wallet theft now that your school information is secured in password/fingerprint unlock mechanisms. A 2017 survey found that three-quarters of U.S. students prefer iPhones over Android, hinting the colossal market Apple has.

This feature is simple to use. Just simply hold your iPhone or Apple Watch near the reader and wait for the sign to hover off. Just make sure to use its function at places that generally accept your physical ID. With such a feature so easy to use and versatile, Apple is looking to expand its service to Johns Hopkins University, Santa Clara, and Temple Universities by the end of the year. But CNET reports that schools will have to partner up with Apple to get this type of student ID support. They can’t just enable this feature on their own. For students who may have lost her student ID card once or twice, this feature will become your best friend in school.

USC Students Rally After Professor Saying ‘Accusers Sometimes Lie’

Dozens of students at the University of Southern Califonia attended a rally on Monday, October 1, 2018, demanding a tenured professor be fired after he sent a reply e-mail to the student body saying that “accusers sometimes lie” on Thursday, September 27.

“If the day comes you are accused of some crime or tort of which you are not guilty, and you find your peers automatically believing your accuser, I expect you find yourself a strong proponent of due process than you are now,” USC Price Professor James Moore wrote in an e-mail. “Accusers sometimes lie.”

“Times Up For James Moore”

According to the PJ Media, the e-mail was in response to a reply-all email that urged students to “Believe Survivors” on the day of Christine Ford’s testimony. Moore’s message has triggered what one school admin said was “hundreds” of emails from concerned students and alumni since Thursday, September 27.

The rally entitled “Times Up for James Moore” was organized by Price students Joelle Montier and Audry Mechling, according to Daily Trojan. The rally came after an extensive email chain prompted by Moore’s reply to an invitation for an event called “Coffee and Title IX” organized by Price Women and Allies.

During the protest on Monday, about seven female students, including Montier and Mechling, shared their assault stories.

“To be clear, I take no joy in standing here and sharing my most painful memory with the world, but I refuse to stand by and let another human being go through what I went through,” Daily Trojan reported while citing Montier. “Rapists must be held accountable for their actions. Rape enablers, like Professor Moore, must be held accountable for their actions.”

Price Dean Jack Knott addressed Moore’s email, calling his remarks “insensitive and incendiary.” Knott also assured the ralliers that Price school administrators would push for education on issues surrounding sexual assault and implicit biases.

— Carlin Pappas (@carlinbaypappas) October 1, 2018

“This is going to be a multi-pronged effort. We are going to have a faculty meeting later this week around implicit bias, sensitivity towards [sexual assault]….” Knott said.

“We don’t want [the email chain] to become derailed into something like this, but we also want to have a forum for open discussions so people get to debate these issues,” he added. “We want people to participate in a responsible way…in a way that respects others and doesn’t, in this case, throw something out like this that can cause a tremendous amount of injury.”

Moore Felt “Believe Survivors” Was An “Opportunity”

In the interview with PJ Media, Moore said he “took a risk” by sending an email about due process to the nearly 44,000 student body.

He said that the lack of due process in Title IX investigation has especially concerned him. He also did not intend to insinuate that Christine Ford was lying about Kavanaugh, despite how his email came off.

He felt the email urging students to “Believe Survivors” was an “opportunity.”

“We are punishing more of the guilty by punishing more of the innocent… I work from within the organization as best I can to try and change it, and this was an opportunity to make a point [about Title IX] with students focused on the question,” Moore told PJ Media.

Professor James Moore, who sent the email on Thursday saying "accusers sometimes lie," believes the sexual assault allegations are damaging and should be reviewed with due process protections pic.twitter.com/LGLwnqmPfL

— USC Annenberg Media (@AnnenbergMedia) October 2, 2018

Moore also expressed remorse.

“It is never my intention to hurt anyone. My intention is to protect more students than we currently do from being punished for acts of misconduct they have not committed. Any of us might stand accused of any number of misdeeds, and each of us at that point will want to be treated fairly under due process,” he said. “My goal was protecting students, not traumatizing or bullying them.”

Although USC hasn’t released any official decision about Moore, Will Creeley from The Foundation for Individual Right in Education said USC can’t fire Moore and be in good standing with the law, as PJ Media reported.

“Consistent with both its own policy and California state law, USC may not punish either Moore for his comment, nor students who peacefully protest Moore for his comment,” Creeley said.

Bill Mandating College Campuses To Offer Abortion Pills To Students Rejected

California Democrat Governor Jerry Brown rejected a bill on Sunday, September 30 that would mandate college campuses to offer abortion pills to students.

“According to a study sponsored by supporters of this legislation, the average distance to abortion providers in campus communities varies from five to seven miles, not an unreasonable distance,” Governor Brown wrote in his veto letter of Senate Bill 320. “Because the services required by this bill are widely available off-campus, this bill is not necessary.”

Senate Bill 320 Was Vetoed

Senate Bill 320, issued in February 2017, requires every student health center in University of California and California State University campuses to offer medication abortions beginning January 1, 2022.

Brown, who vetoed a bill requiring the health centers to provide abortion pills during the first 10 weeks of a pregnancy, said those services are already available to University of California and California State University students.

“The bill would provide that its requirements would be implemented only if, and to the extent that, a total of at least $9,600,000 in private moneys is made available to the fund in a timely manner on or after January 1, 2019,” SB-320 states.

The money would have gone to the College Student Health Center Sexual and Reproductive Health Preparation Fund, which would provide public universities the money in grant form to cover costs such as equipment used for medication abortion, staff training and facility and security upgrades.

According to The Daily Caller, pro-life organization Students for Life expressed satisfaction with the bill’s veto.

“Thank you Governor Brown for VETOING #SB320. Abortion drugs do not belong on college campuses,” wrote the tweet.

The Bill Is Planned To Be Reintroduced

Senate Bill 320 was originally introduced by California Senator Connie Leyva in 2017. According to The Daily Californian, the bill originated at UC Berkeley, influenced by a 2016 ASUC resolution supporting the implementation of medical abortion services at the Tang Center. Students United for Reproductive Justice, or SURJ, co-founder Adiba Khan contributed to the ASUC resolution and worked alongside other SURJ members to help write SB-320, then authored by Sen. Leyva.

SB-320 passed its final vote in the California State Senate on Aug. 30, 2018.

“I’m so incredibly disappointed in the Governor, and I think it’s yet just another example of old white guys thinking they know what women need,” The Daily Californian reported, cited Leyva. “For him to say he doesn’t think (the commute is) inconvenient, he just completely missed the whole point of the bill.”

Leyva said she plans to reintroduce the bill in the next session.

Today's #SB320 veto by @JerryBrownGov is a setback to a woman's right to access abortion. I fully plan to reintroduce this bill next session and will not stop until there is #AbortionCareOnCampus! https://t.co/yC1SGL4GaW

— Connie Leyva (@SenatorLeyva) October 1, 2018

Supporters of this bill came largely from pro-choice organizations such as Women’s Foundation of California and the Tara Health Foundation. The organizations also expressed disappointment with the veto. The two foundations helped fund the implementation of SB-320 into public universities.

“We are disappointed that Gov. Brown failed to support what the Senate, the Assembly, and 6 in 10 Californians already have recognized in this groundbreaking bill — that students of California need abortion care on campus,” CEO for the Women’s Foundation of California Surina Khan wrote in a press release.

Tyress Williams, 19, has been arrested in connection to the burglaries of a number of celebrities, including Rihanna and Los Angeles Dodgers star Yasiel Puig.

According to reports, Williams was arrested for his suspected role in the burglaries of Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig, Los Angeles Rams receiver Robert Woods, singer Rihanna, and singer Christina Milian.

Williams was reportedly pulled over by police on Friday, September 28, and found to have stolen items matching the description of items taken in the burglaries in his vehicle.

The Los Angeles Police Department suspect that Williams deliberately targeted athletes at times they would be away from their homes.

via Los Angeles Times:

Woods was playing in a game against the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday when police received a call about a break-in at his home on Mariano Street about 7:20 p.m. Thursday. Police found the rear sliding glass door of the house had been smashed and the residence had been ransacked. A review of security surveillance video showed three hooded suspects with their faces covered going through the home.

After determining that Williams was a suspect in the Woods burglary and making an arrest about 11:30 p.m., a search of his vehicle yielded several items alleged to have been taken from the homes of Puig, and actress-singers Rihanna and Milian, according to the source. Records show Williams was formally booked shortly after midnight into an LAPD jail on suspicion of residential burglary. He listed his job as a landscaper.

Capt. Lillian Carranza, whose detectives at LAPD’s commercial crimes division have been investigating the string of celebrity burglaries, is slated to hold a news conference at police headquarters in downtown Los Angeles announcing details off Williams’ arrest Tuesday afternoon.

Charges were filed against Williams on Tuesday, October 2.

Kent State University Cancels Production Of ‘West Side Story’ After White Students Given Latin Roles

Kent State University in Ohio has canceled their fall musical production of the famed West Side Story due to complaints that too many white students landed lead roles.

According to reports, of the three Latin leading roles, none were given to Latin students, including the lead role of the Puerto Rican Maria.

KentWired, Kent State University’s student newspaper, says that while “several” white students were cast in Latin supporting roles, some Latin students who auditioned were not given any role in the show.

In addition to the casting choices, students are frustrated by the theater department rules that force them to accept the role they are given.

If a student declines the role they are given, they are put on probation, meaning they may not participate in School of Theatre and Dance productions or outside productions.

via KentWired:

Senior theater major Viviana Cardenas, 21, also identifies as Latina. She got a callback for the role of Anita, another Puerto Rican lead role, but an African-American student got the part instead.

“It’s more than just getting a role,” said Cardenas, whose father is from Ecuador. “I don’t get to tell other people’s stories because of the color of my skin, but yet when there is this story that is about people of cultures like me, about people of color like me, and that gets taken away from me … that was the most heartbreaking.”

“If they didn’t have this diverse cast in mind, and if they didn’t think that we as the Latino students could fulfill these lead roles, why did they continue on with the show that they picked?” she said.

Eric van Baars, the School of Theatre and Dance director at Kent State, has since decided to cancel the production of West Side Story replaced it with a production of Children Of Eden.

West Side Story, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, takes place in 1960s New York City, where two rival gangs — the Polish-American “Jets” and the Puerto Rican “Sharks” — fight for control over the West Side streets.

These Are The Top 5 Most Offensive TV Shows Of All-Time

Comedy Central

For 21 years, 22 seasons, and 288 episodes (and counting), South Park has remained one of the most consistently hilarious & intelligent shows on television — cartoon, live-action, or otherwise.

However, a large portion of the show’s humor and intelligence is due to their willingness to push boundaries and make jokes that the average comedy show wouldn’t dare ever make. And because of that comedic fearlessness, in addition to being regarded as one of the funniest shows of all time, South Park has also earned a reputation of being one of the most offensive shows of all-time.

In fact, scratch that: South Park has earned the reputation of being THE most offensive show of all-time. Two decades of making fun of every religion, gender, and societal construct insight can have that effect.

Family Guy, Jerry Springer, All In The Family, and Married With Children rounded out the top five.

According to a new study, it’s not just Baby Boomer church-going folks who are offended by Cartman’s antics.

Senior Living spoke to “1,000 people from various generations,” with “participants ranged in age from 18 to 89,” to discover the most offensive TV show of all-time.

With 30.7 percent, South Park easily came in first, followed by Family Guy (10.5), Jerry Springer (7.1), All In the Family (6.4), and Married… with Children (2.7). The long-running Comedy Central animated series also fared well in the “most offensive TV character/personality” poll, with Cartman’s 18.7 percent topping Archie Bunker’s 14.5 percent (other notable finalists: Roseanne Barr in fourth place, Donald Trump in sixth, and Bart and Homer Simpson in 12th and 13th; Beavis finished in 14th, but partner-in-frog baseball Butthead was nowhere to be found).

And of course, to top it off, Cartman was named the most offensive TV character of all-time, which is more than deserved.

The 22nd season of South Park premiered on Wednesday, September 26.

Apple Finally Solves Their Biggest Problem, Adds Bald Emojis

Apple

Finally, Apple!

After years of conning us into buying new headphones and chargers, slow-rolling out old technology but pawning it off as new, screens that seem to crack on purpose, and mysterious malfunctions when new iPhones come out, Apple has finally solved their biggest issue: they’ve added a bald emoji!

Thank god, the bald people, and of course, the criminally under-represented red-headed African-Americans of the world, have finally been turned into generic cartoon characters. If achieving widespread equality is a war, then consider this battle won.

But those aren’t the only new emojis in Apple’s latest series, as a report from MacRumors says they will be adding “70+” emojis:

Apple plans to introduce more than 70 new emoji characters, with options for red hair, gray hair, curly hair, and no hair, along with smiley faces that include cold face, party face, pleading face, and face with hearts.

Superheroes, an eye-shaped nazar amulet, and an infinity symbol will be added, along with new animals such as kangaroo, peacock, parrot, and lobster. New food items include mango, lettuce, cupcake, and mooncake. Apple says that it is working with the Unicode Consortium to add additional disability-themed emoji to Unicode 12, which is set to be released in 2019.

Developers can get the new emoji right now by downloading the iOS 12.1 update, and Apple says the software will also be available for public beta testers later in the day.

Our biggest takeaway? Now you can use a peacock emoji when quoting The Other Guys: “I’m a peacock, you gotta let me fly!”

Theta Chi At Ball State University Shut Down Due To Undisclosed Policy Violations

The Theta Chi fraternity at Ball State University in Indiana has been shut down for reportedly violating the national fraternity organization’s policy.

According to a statement from the fraternity’s national headquarters on Wednesday, October 3, the Theta Chi chapter at Ball State had their charter revoked for “confirmed violations of Theta Chi policies.” However, the statement did not offer any details that indicated what policies the fraternity violated.

Due to the shutdown, the university has withdrawn its recognition of the chapter which forces its members must find other places to live. Ball State University spokesperson Kathy Wolf said that current members who lived in the Theta Chi fraternity house will need to secure alternate housing for the remainder of the academic year.

Furthermore, Ms. Wolf said that the schools Office of Greek Life will be offering assistance to the fraternity’s members in finding other housing, including on-campus.

Theta Chi, which was chartered on January 20, 1951, was the oldest brotherhood on campus.

Current members who live in the Theta Chi house will need to secure alternate housing for the remainder of the academic year, BSU spokesperson Kathy Wolf said.

Last year, all of the school’s 13 fraternities were barred from hosting any social events after a “pattern of different types of events not consistent with Ball State’s standards.”

This is the latest major fraternity or sorority lawsuit, investigation, suspension or closure in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have all suspended fraternities in the wake of hazing and alcohol deaths.

These reports come amidst similar allegations that have been made against fraternities nationwide, including Sigma Alpha Epsilon at East Carolina University, who was shut down for hazing and the Lambda Chi Alpha chapter at the University of Arkansas which has been accused of taking sexually explicit photographs of women without their permission.

In response to incidents like these, fraternities such Phi Kappa Psi have made numerous changes to their code of conduct in an effort to address the issues that have arisen. In addition, schools such as Texas State, West Virginia University, and Penn State University have introduced new Greek Life rules to try and prevent these problems.
