This season the NBA began it’s the first year of an eight-year deal with Nike who will be providing jerseys and other athletic wear for the NBA teams. In September of 2017, the NBA and Nike introduced their “statement” jerseys which would be used as their alternate jersey. Nike worked exclusively with every team and their athletes to design the jerseys, so some jerseys are very similar to past jerseys

Nike would later introduce their “association and “icon” edition which has taken the place of the regular home and away jerseys. Now home teams will choose which one of their four jerseys there would like to wear, and the away team will select a contrasting uniform color.

After much speculation and leaked pictures, Nike finally showed off their “city” edition jerseys which are jerseys based on the team’s community and history. We are going to take a look at the 10 best looking city edition jerseys.

10 Milwaukee Bucks

The cream color that is seen on this jersey is what makes it such a great looking jersey. The new intimidating buck logo that Milwaukee introduced three years ago looks good with the green, white, stripes that surround it and the cream background. These “cream city” jerseys are a tribute to the distinctive clay that the city of Milwaukee is built on.

9 Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets team name was about the 19th-century mining boom in Colorado when people came to the area in search of gold and silver nuggets. So, unfortunately, it is not about the food, but Denver’s new jerseys are a clear example of the city’s history. With two prospector picks going across each other and a mountain in the middle it clearly encapsulates the history of mining in Denver including the beautiful mountains they are known for. As plus their shorts also have some horizontal lines going up and down in the form of mountains.

8 Philadelphia 76ers

For their city edition jerseys, the Philadelphia 76ers took it all the way back to 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was signed in Philly. The jersey color resembles the parchment-paper color that was used for the Declaration. And the signature-style lettering which is what makes this jersey stand out so much is to mirror the signatures on the Declaration.

7 Oklahoma City Thunder

Not only did the Thunder introduce some new players this season but they also added some great looking jerseys. Their city edition jerseys look just as great as their other three jerseys. The dark and light grey throughout the jersey and shorts is to show off the cloudiness in the state of Oklahoma, and the yellow lining around the letters and numbers signifies lighting.Another great part of this uniform is the Oklahoma-shaped patch on the waistband of the shorts.

6 New Orleans Pelicans

It is pretty apparent when you first look at the Pelicans new jerseys that the colors are related to Mardi Gras. The bold and vibrant colors celebrate the life of the city during Mardi Gras. Another cool thing about these jerseys is the numbers are misaligned to represent the dancing and the city’s energy.

5 Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cavs city edition jerseys use the city’s nickname “The Land” right across the front of the jerseys. It represents the cool new vibe about Cleveland and how proud and protective the community is of their home. The gray and yellow throughout the jersey is what makes it pop and “The Land” is definitely the coldest part of this jersey.

  4 Charlotte Hornets

Just like the Cavs jerseys the thing that makes the Hornets jersey look so good is the nickname “Buzz City” across the front. The jersey is also highlighted by a teal pattern on the sides that resembles the nest and wings of a hornet. Another nice aspect of this jersey is the two hornet stingers at the beginning and end of “Buzz City.”

3 Indiana Pacers

When the team was named the Pacers in 1967 is due in large part to the Indy 500 that takes place in Indiana. The Pacers used that history of the Indy 500 in their city edition jerseys. On the left side of the jerseys, there are checkered racing stripes that run from top to bottom with the Pacers name tracking downwards. Next to the checkered racing stripes is a circled number which resembles a classic Indy Car nosecone.

2 Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers new city edition jerseys give a slight resemblance to the Hollywood Nights jerseys they were a few years ago. But these jerseys are a tribute to the legendary Kobe Bryant who had two jerseys retired this season. The black jersey with yellow lining is already a good look, but then you add the snakeskin print for Byrant who is known as the “black mamba” makes it look even better.

1 Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors were one of the last teams to reveal their city edition jerseys, but they did not disappoint. With Canadian rapper and big Raptors fan Drake as their “brand ambassador,” it was no surprise that the team will wear black and gold jerseys as they did in the past. The colors resemble the colors of Drake OVO Sound label. The six points of the chevron design represent the six boroughs, and the North is a mantra the team coined a few years ago.

It’s Monday, Oct. 1, so the time has come once again to take a look around the college world and appreciate some of the standout students and rising social media influencers at various colleges in the country for the COED Girl of the Day which features a college student that stands out among their peers. Today, we head to the Southeastern Conference to introduce you to Makenzie Alexis Day, a member of the Ole Miss cheerleading squad.

Makenzie, who hails from Houston, Texas, is a member of the Delta Gamma sorority on the Ole Miss campus.

The Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity at Kent State University in Ohio held it’s first ever fundraiser for sexual assault victims on Friday, September 28.

According to KentWired, the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity hosted its first-ever balloon release for sexual assault awareness at Manchester Field in honor of Hazing, Prevention and Sexual Assault Awareness Week at the Kent State University campus.

Nicholas Potts, the scholarship director for Alpha Sigma Phi, said that the fraternity exceeded their goal of $500 in donations. However, Potts said that the fraternity’s main goal was to change “just one person’s life.”

Reports indicate that the $500 was raised by approximately 80 people who attended the event.

The hour-long event sold green balloons that supported Green Dot — a national violence prevention program — and students released them in honor of sexual assault victims. T-shirts were also available for purchase.

The fraternity’s first philanthropy event of the year raised $726 for the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN), the largest nonprofit, anti-sexual assault organization in America.

Members of the fraternity, including Potts, Director of Philanthropy Andy Griffin and senior educational studies major Michael Cockrell, began planning the event in early August.

The school paper reports that the university plans to make the balloon release a tradition during Hazing Prevention Week on campus.

College endowments, the amount of money colleges receive in donations, are an important part for schools to use for investments, upgrading facilities, hiring professors and more. Endowments also allow universities to give out scholarships and set tuition amount. Colleges with higher endowments would be able to give students bigger financial award packages, therefore endowments are often seen as an important source for students to pursue higher education with less concern for their financial burden.

Donations from alumni and others create a sort of pool of funding that the college can use, build, and get returns on. Typically, endowment funds follow a fairly strict set of long-term guidelines dictating the asset allocation that will yield the targeted return without taking on too much risk.

Columbia Endowment Size: $10 Billion

Columbia University contains a relatively small amount of endowment comparing to other Ivy League schools such as Harvard’s $37.1 billion, Yale’s $27 billion and Princeton’s $24.6 billion. According to Columbia Spectator, the school’s endowment raised the fund’s value to $10 billion in 2017, which was the fourth smallest of the Ivy League.

However, the reported return of 13.7 percent for the 2017 fiscal year has marked Columbia the third-highest among the eight-member Ivy League, and its 10-year investment return of 7.3 percent was the best in the group, according to data compiled by Bloomberg in April 2018. The average investment return among Ivy League universities was 12.6 percent. All eight universities, with the exception of Yale, faced losses in the 2016 fiscal year.

The Columbia Investment Management Company (IMC) is charged with managing the bulk of the University’s endowments, also known as managed assets. “The formation of the IMC symbolizes the University’s dedication and commitment to the long-term investment management of the endowment with the highest professional standards,” the University’s official website stated.

“According to a statement released by the University, these numbers reflect a ‘normal one-quarter lag in private equity and real asset valuations.’ Columbia declined to release details regarding asset allocation or asset class performance, according to Pension and Investments,” as Columbia Spectator reported.

Hingham High School in Hingham, Massachusetts is currently on lockdown after a reported threat ‘by phone’.

Police are on the scene investigating and all students are currently safe. No injuries have been reported.

The Hingham police department released the following statement about the lockdown:

High is in lockdown mode after a reported threat by phone. Several police units are present at school and all students are SAFE now. Currently still being investigated.

At this time, police have not released any information on who placed the call or when it was placed. The suspect who made the threat has not been identified.

Hingham High School, a public high school that serves grades 9 through 12, is located on Union Street near Hingham Center. and was ranked the 69th Best High School in America by Newsweek in 2012.

The lockdown at Hingham High School in Hingham, Massachusetts is just the latest in a string of lockdowns, bomb threats, and shootings that have plagued the United States.

Over the course of the past few years, shootings and lockdowns such as these have been a scourge upon the country and people have struggled with coming up with a solution. Lockdowns have become all too common as a means of protection when students and faculty are in danger and today is no different.

This incident follows similar incidents at Dodd Middle School in Connecticut, Windham Public Schools also in Connecticut, Pacoima Middle School in Los Angeles, Millennium Middle School in Florida, and US Grant High School in Oklahoma, which are just some of the places where events such as this have occurred.

Speaking to German newspaper Der Spiegel, Kathryn Mayorga identified herself as the American woman who accused international soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo of rape and settled with him out-of-court in 2010.

Mayorga claims that Ronaldo raped her in his penthouse at the Palms Place Hotel in Las Vegas back in 2009.

According to Deadspin, while one of Ronaldo’s lawyers has since denied the accusation and said he will be suing Der Spiegel for publishing the report, Mayorga’s lawyer hinted at the possession of “potentially damning documents which purport to show Ronaldo himself admitting that Mayorga did indeed vocally and repeatedly deny her consent during the sexual act.”

The largest revelation from the report is a questionnaire answered by Ronaldo from December 2009 where he apparently acknowledges that Mayorga verbally & specifically indicated that she did not want to have sex with him.

The questionnaires — which were written in code where “Ms. C” refers to Mayorga and “X” refers to Ronaldo — was administered by his own lawyers so they could further understand Ronaldo’s version of Mayorga’s claim.

The sender was a lawyer from the firm of Carlos Osório de Castro, a lawyer who has long represented the soccer star[CH1] . The recipients were Osório de Castro himself and an additional colleague.

In response to the question of whether Ms. C had ever raised her voice, screamed or called out, X answered according to the document: “She said no and stop several times.” And furthermore: “I fucked her from the side. She made herself available. She was lying on her side, in bed, and I entered her from behind. It was rude. We didn’t change position. 5/7 minutes.

She said that she didn’t want to, but she made herself available.” And further: “But she kept saying ‘no.’ ‘Don’t do it.’ ‘I’m not like the others.’ I apologized afterwards.” The document quotes him as saying that she never screamed and never called out for anyone.

“[NN2] Question: Did Ms. C. say anything afterwards about the sex being too brutal? X: She didn’t complain about it being brutal. She complained that I forced her. She didn’t say anything about wanting to go to the police.”

During her career, in an effort to improve women’s rights in the Middle east, Al-Taweel has worked with the Clintons, Queen Rania of Jordan and the members of the British monarchy.

The Coca-Cola Company recently announced that it is strongly considering a business venture into the burgeoning legal cannabis industry. This news came as a surprise to millions, as risk-taking is not traditionally an adjective that investors use to describe the Coca-Cola company. The market for marijuana, as has become evident by the involvement of a billion dollar corporation, is proliferating as new states pass legislation allowing the sale of recreational and medicinal marijuana for their citizens. And because it is still illegal at a federal level, it will be fascinating to observe the legal battles that will ensue. Nevertheless, Coca-Cola has garnered tremendous media attention for this announcement, and the cannabis stock market was rocked to its core by this announcement. But until federal legislation is passed, it is impossible to predict the future of consumer cannabis products in America.

Ellie Wilson, a 26-year-old teacher, is accused of having sex with a student in an airplane bathroom before informing him that she was pregnant. According to Metro.uk, “she told him she was pregnant and would have an abortion, which was ‘hard for him to comprehend.’”

From the report:

The pair then went on dates to Nando’s and a country park. and he bought her chocolate and flowers in the belief they were in a proper relationship, the court heard. But the jury heard this was exposed when a jealous friend of the victim tried to blackmail her into having sex with him.

Wilson has since denied four charges of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust. The allegations stem from incidents between August and September 2015. According to the allegations, the student and Wilson were heading back from a school trip to Africa when the incident occurred. The student claims that both he and Ms Wilson were drunk after drinking complimentary alcohol on the plane.

From there, Wilson allegedly began kissing the student before she took him to the airplane toilet where the sexual encounter took place.

“The single incident on the plane where he had ejaculated inside her she told him had led to her making him pregnant,” prosecutor Virginia Cornwall said. “She told him because she was scared and she didn’t know what to do. She intended to have an abortion. She kept this entirely from her partner. This was difficult for pupil to digest, to understand.”

She continued: “These are offences alleging a breach of a position of trust. We assume, expect and want our teachers, our social workers and those that look after children and educate them to behave in a way that is not predatory that is not sexual. ‘It was the circumstances in which the two interacted on the school trip that led to an erosion of boundaries and it was her responsibility as the adult to ensure there was no erosion of boundaries.”

The trial is currently ongoing.

Peggy Sue, Gerron the namesake of the love ballad “Peggy Sue” written by Buddy Holly, has died at the age of 78-years-old.

According to reports, Gerron passed away in a Lubbock, Texas hospital on the morning of Monday, October 1, at the age of 78. After moving to California, Gerron returned to Lubbock, Texas, in 1995 to care for her aging mother.

Gerron was famous for being the subject of the song “Peggy Sue”. “Peggy Sue” is a rock and roll song written by Buddy Holly, Jerry Allison, and Norman Petty, recorded and released as a single by Holly in July of 1957.

Buddy Holly tagged her in the love ballad “Peggy Sue,” but she wasn’t Buddy’s love. She was in a relationship with Jerry Allison, the drummer of the Crickets.

Following her divorce from Jerry Allison, Peggy Sue went to Pasadena Junior College in Pasadena, California, and became a dental assistant. She then married again and had two children, a girl and a boy, and spent the majority of her life caring for her family, according to PeggySueOnline.com.

Sue, a celebrity speaker, radio host, and columnist, was the first licensed female plumber in California.

There is no word on funeral arrangements at this time.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to pay-per-view on Saturday, Oct. 6 with the highly-anticipated UFC 229 event which features the return of former two-division champion Conor McGregor. McGregor, who has been out of action for nearly two years, is set to return to action against current UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Protesters gathered outside of a Syracuse, New York, Dunkin’ Donuts on Monday, October 1, after a now-viral video showed an employee pouring water on a sleeping homeless man. The video originally went viral on Facebook on Sunday, September 30.

While the employee remains unidentified, a GoFundMe identified the homeless man as Jeremy Dufresne. At the time of this writing, the GoFundMe exceeded $1700 in just eight hours.

Dufresne, who suffers from schizophrenia and eats most of his meals at the Samaritan Center on North Salina Street in Syracuse, says he was just resting his head as he charged his phone.

According to Dufresne’s family, in addition to schizophrenia, oxygen was cut off from Jeremy’s brain when he was worn, causing him to have lifelong mental and physical struggles such as epilepsy and a learning disability.

The employee has since been suspended pending a full investigation.

When the video was taken, there appeared to be no one else in the restaurant. It was about 8:30 p.m. Dufresne said he wasn’t sleeping. He just put his head down to wait for the phone to charge.

Homeless advocates have called to boycott the Dunkin’ store and people are calling for the worker’s firing on social media. Neither Dunkin’ nor the franchise owner, The Wolak Group, have responded to requests for comment. Al-amin Muhammad, who runs the homeless outreach “We Rise Above the Streets,” went to Dunkin’ this morning to confront the manager. He also led a protest of about 20 people around lunchtime.

Shortly after, the drive-through line was backed up as people ordered their coffee. Two people sitting inside said they were from the Wolak Group, but deferred questions to Dunkin’ corporate. Neither have responded to questions about whether the worker is still employed.

Kimberly Wolak, the Dunkin’ Franchisee and Chief Operating Officer, issued the following statement about the unidentified employee’s conduct:

Dunkin’ has been a part of the Syracuse community for many years, and as the franchisees who own and operate the North Salina Street location, we were extremely disturbed by the behavior of our employees captured in the video.

It not only violated our written policies, but goes against our core values as an organization–which include creating a welcoming and hospitable environment and treating everyone with dignity and respect.

The employees involved in the incident have been suspended pending a complete investigation, and we will be contacting the individual in the video to apologize for the negative experience.

We also intend to work with local advocates to make sure that our employees are better educated as to how to engage with homeless individuals and where to direct them in the community for appropriate assistance.

When asked about the incident, Dufresne — who  told Syracuse.com that the employee “probably had some personal problems of his own and needed someone to talk to and he took it out on someone else, like me.”

For a television show that’s all about the frightening possibilities of future technology, it only makes sense that Black Mirror would be one of the first mainstream TV shows to experiment with a ‘choose-your-own-adventure’ episode.

Because Black Mirror is largely about how new technologies affect our society, the choose-your-own-adventure aspect of the episode would likely be infused into the narrative the episode itself.

Furthermore, depending on the success of the Black Mirror ‘choose-your-own-adventure’, Netflix could potentially roll out the technology to other programs, movies included, in the future.

The streaming service is developing a slate of specials that will let viewers choose the next storyline in a TV episode or movie, according to people familiar with the matter. The company expects to release the first of these projects before the end of this year, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans are still private.

Viewers will get to choose their own storylines in one episode of the upcoming season of “Black Mirror,” the Emmy-winning science-fiction anthology series. The show is famous for exploring the social implications of technology, including an episode where humans jockey to receive higher ratings from their peers. The fifth season of the show is expected to be released in December.

The foray into choose-your-own-adventure programming represents a big bet on a nascent form of entertainment known as interactive TV. As Netflix expands around the world, it’s looking for new ways to lure customers. By blending elements of video games with traditional television, the company could create a formula that can be applied to any number of series.

While nothing official has been announced, the fifth season of Netflix’s smash hit Black Mirror is expected to be released before the end of 2018.

We’re just a couple days out from Conor McGregor’s return to the UFC Octagon for his megafight against Khabib Nurmagomedov, and yet, he’s remained relatively quiet for his own lofty, usually very standards.

But now that we’re in fight week, McGregor is doing a little media here and there — both for the UFC and his own media company, The Mac Life — and he sounds like a man on a mission.

Speaking for nearly 15-minutes, McGregor delves into a variety of topics, including a couple near-miss fights (against Frankie Edgar & Rafael dos Anjos) in the past year, his mindset heading into this one, and of course, his official prediction for his bout against Khabib:

I think I’m going to turn him into a bobblehead, to be honest. I mean, it’s personal, but it’s the same — it’s always a little personal. But, in there, like I say, it’s a blank face and a new body. But I predict, I see his head … I see him turning into a bobblehead when I hit him. I feel his brain is going to rattle when he get a clatter of me, so that’s what I’m keeping in my head.

But, like I said to someone else, I’m a veteran now. I will be prepared for five rounds, I will be prepared for any scenario. And that’s it — I’m well trained, I’ve put in the work, and I’m confident going in no matter where it goes.”

Conor McGregor makes his highly-anticipated return to the Octagon on Saturday, Oct. 6 against UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in the main event of UFC 229 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. McGregor, a former two-division champion, is one of the most explosive strikers on the UFC roster and has made a habit of picking apart his opponents with a strong left hand and his flashy striking.

Nikki Dickinson, a 34-year-old Bellefontaine, Ohio, mother, has been taken into custody after she allowed a 16-year-old to tattoo her 10-year-old son. The disturbing video went viral on social media, leading to Dickinson’s arrest on Friday, September 28. She was charged with child endangerment and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

According to authorities, police officers say Dickinson told them she got “tired of her son asking”, so she allowed him to get the tattoo.

In addition, court documents say that the tattooing happened in unsafe & unsanitary conditions, as the 16-year-old who did the tattoo reportedly “frequently” gives tattoos at home and is believed to have given a tattoo that turned into a MRSA infection.

Dickinson faces up to six months in jail if convicted of first-degree misdemeanor endangering of a child. The charge of contributing to the delinquency of a child is also a first-degree misdemeanor.

Furthermore, according to ABC, the 16-year-old teen, he was charged with two delinquency counts of tattooing prohibitions: performing tattooing in a manner that doesn’t meet safety and sanitation standards, and tattooing in a manner that does not meet sterilization and disinfection standards.

The third person in the video who was holding the young boy, Justice Oyer, has not been charged.

Dickinson said the following on Facebook about the incident:

“Justice made a bad choice by being involved with it but she did nothing else wrong…but really this child is not abused nor neglected. Does his mother make bad decisions? Yes, but when you got people beating up old people and people actually abusing their kids no one says nothing.”

It’s been long enough; college students need to be put in their place. It’s confusing to why this has not been addressed earlier, but every class needs to understand their power. From freshmen, sophomores, juniors, to senior, they all must drill into their heads that their power grows from nothing to kings and queens. There is a large gap between each class, it gets smaller as you get older but there still needs to be respect between each one. It should be self-explanatory the difference between upper and underclassmen. But, somehow, each individual class does not get it. It’s all about respect! So, if you go to college and are in one of these classes, please read carefully, or you will pay for it later.

Freshmen

You are the hardest to crack for what you can and cannot do around campus. I’m sorry, but you are not in high school anymore. You are not the kings of your school anymore, so stop acting like you own the whole campus. You are literally nothing, even professors see you as nothing. You are like that little dust particle that floats in the air and the only time people see you is when you accidentally go into their eyes and irritate them. If you are a freshman, you have very little power. You are the youngest of the classes, which means you have a lot to learn. So take your first year and learn, do not under any circumstances, stand up to a senior. You will die in extreme pain. Know your boundaries, go to class, eat meals, and go to bed. You are allowed to have fun but keep it to a bare minimum. Think about it as your freshmen year as the purge, just don’t go outside and you will be fine.

Sophomores

The class who thinks since they aren’t freshmen anymore they can do whatever they want. Nope, you are sadly wrong. You are basically one little small step in front of freshmen. You have finally been recognized by the upperclassmen and professors. However, you are the class that is forgettable. Sophomores are the class where some wonder if it even is a class at all, which basically puts you right back to being a freshman. Basically, sophomores are second-year freshmen. You are allowed to talk to juniors and seniors, but do not tell them they are wrong or argue with them. You will forever be known as “that disrespectful sophomore.” You will also never be invited to parties, even when you are a senior. So, know your place and don’t cross the danger line.

Juniors

This is the year you can breathe because you are finally in a safer zone. You aren’t entirely out of the woods, but this is your year to finally be known as an upperclassman. However, with all the glory of being older and more experienced, you are still not a senior. Thankfully, after two years of college, you will probably already know how to treat everyone above and below you. Apparently, one of the most respectful classes, because you treat the underclassmen of how they should be treated and still look up to the seniors almost like you, did as a freshman. You are also at the year where you are focusing more on your studies, so you instead get angry at professors than the underclassmen.

Seniors

The year of not giving one single crap about anything. It’s your final year, and since you are seniors, you can do whatever you want. Juniors look up to you, sophomores treat you like kings and queens, and freshmen are too scared to even look at you in the eye. It’s a power that no one else can have but you. But, with all this power must come to some sense of responsibility. Don’t throw your power down the drain and end up becoming a second year senior which pushes you down to being a second-year freshman, because all your power is trashed. Use your power wisely and lead the school like a real college senior. Also, this is the year you can put freshmen in their place because they will listen to you, just make sure you don’t hurt them they are very delicate.
