EA Sports is finally back with it’s the latest edition of FIFA, FIFA 19, and the question that surrounds all newly released sports video games still remains: what makes this latest version worth buying?

Luckily, FIFA 19 is packed with reasons to upgrade to the latest and greatest edition of the virtual soccer franchise — first and foremost of those reasons is the improved gameplay. The pace of play has been slowed down significantly, therefore resulting in more realistic control of the ball.

The most notable addition to the game is the Champions League. FIFA 19 is the first game in the series to feature both the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League. While Martin Tyler and Alan Smith return as regular commentators, a new commentary team of Derek Rae and Lee Dixon have been added and will appear in the UEFA competitions modes such as the Champions League and the Europa League.

Once again, FIFA is one of the most immersive sports video games on the market and easily the best soccer game available today.

Matthew Alexander Naquin, a former LSU student accused of negligent homicide in the 2017 hazing death of Phi Delta Theta pledge Max Gruver, was “vocal” about not wanting Gruver to be a member of the fraternity.

According to newly revealed court documents, Ryan Matthew Isto, Naquin’s former roommate, told East Baton Rouge Parish prosecutors that Naquin reacted “harshly” to Gruver being given a “snap bid” by active Phi Delta Theta members. Isto made these statements when he pleaded guilty earlier this month to misdemeanor hazing.

Furthermore, Isto told prosecutors that Gruver was the only incoming member that Naquin wanted to cut from the fraternity and that Naquin said “Max is not a good fit,” but did not a specific reason as to why.

The 20-year-old Naquin, of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, is scheduled to stand trial on July 8 for the death of the 18-year-old Gruver.

“When the defendant, Matthew Naquin, realized that Mr. Gruver had been extended a ‘snap bid’ and signed it, the defendant ‘tore up and threw out’ Mr. Gruver’s snap bid due to the defendant’s desire for the victim to not be offered a bid or join Phi Delta Theta,” prosecutor Morgan Johnson wrote in a recent court filing in the Naquin case, quoting what Isto told prosecutors.

Prosecutor Morgan Johnson is seeking state District Judge Beau Higginbotham’s permission to use Naquin’s alleged statements to Isto at Naquin’s trial. Naquin’s attorney, John McLindon, was in a trial in Lafayette on Tuesday and said he had not seen Johnson’s latest filing.

Authorities have alleged that Naquin and other senior Phi Delta Theta members targeted Gruver in a hazing ritual they called “Bible study,” in which pledges were required to chug hard liquor when they gave incorrect answers to questions about the fraternity.

In addition to Naquin and Isto, 22-year-old former student Sean-Paul Gott pleaded no contest to misdemeanor hazing and pledged his cooperation with prosecutors and agreed to testify at Naquin’s trial.

As a result of Gruver’s death, Phi Delta Theta has been banned from LSU’s campus until at least 2033.

Snapchat

27-year-old Sean Bostwick, a rookie Detroit police officer, has been fired after he posted an offensive message about rangling up “zoo animals” on Snapchat.

On Monday, September 24, Detroit Police Chief James Craig told reporters during a news conference that Bostwick would no longer be a Detroit Police Officer as of Tuesday, September 25.

Furthermore, Police Chief Craig said the officer’s sentiment is “not reflective” of the department, which boasted 2,350 uniformed officers as of last year.

According to reports, Bostwick had been out of the police academy for just two months, despite being on the force for roughly 18 months. Police Chief Craig said that Bostick spent the bulk of his time in the academy due to low test scores.

Bostwick expressed some remorse about the post during his meeting with the chief, Craig said. “He took responsibility for it. He admitted that he did this. He said he didn’t mean it the way it came off.” The officer took the post down immediately, but it had already gone viral, the police chief said.

Craig said insensitive comments of this nature will not be accepted in the department or the city. “If you feel that way, you’re not welcome here and we’re not going to have any tolerance for this kind of behavior,” he said.

He also said Bostwick had been in the field and out of the police academy for about two months. The officer had been with the force for about 18 months, but spent much of the time at the academy because of low test scores, according to the chief. He was assigned to the department’s 12th Precinct.

Because the officer was still on probation, Craig said he was able to “take quick, decisive action” in the matter. The situation would have been different if Bostwick was a tenured officer.

While speaking to reports, Detroit Police Chief Craig said that he hopes another police department does not hire Bostwick as an officer.

Hazing allegations at Wiley College in Texas have led to the suspension of all Greek Life activity on campus.

According to a statement released by Wiley College, there was a hazing incident that is currently under investigation, therefore resulting in the suspensions of all Greek Life activities.

As a result of the suspension, Greek organizations at the university are banned from any activity until the investigation has been completed and necessary action has been taken.

The Marshall Police Department released the following statement about the investigation:

Wiley College informed us of the incident, but no one has filed any complaints with our department. In order for us to investigate the victim would have to report it to our officers.

At this time, there is no word on which specific fraternity or organization is involved in the hazing incident.

Wiley College also provided the following statement:

“There was a hazing incident involving our young people that is under investigation. There is a moratorium on Greek Life activity until the investigation has been completed and necessary steps have been taken.”

This is the latest major fraternity or sorority lawsuit, investigation, suspension or closure in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State, and Penn State have all suspended fraternities in the wake of hazing and alcohol deaths.

These reports come amidst similar allegations that have been made against fraternities nationwide, including Sigma Alpha Epsilon at East Carolina University, who was shut down for hazing and the Lambda Chi Alpha chapter at the University of Arkansas which has been accused of taking sexually explicit photographs of women without their permission.

In response to incidents like these, fraternities such Phi Kappa Psi have made numerous changes to their code of conduct in an effort to address the issues that have arisen. In addition, schools such as Texas State, West Virginia University, and Penn State University have introduced new Greek Life rules to try and prevent these problems.

Wake Forest Shuts Down Fraternity For Alleged Sexual Assault & Unregistered Parties

The Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority at the University of New Mexico is being investigated for allegedly making racist comments and mocking an African-American speaker at a university Greek life event.

According to reports, active members of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority were heard saying racist comments such as “Black people get away from me,” and “Black people stop wearing grills,” at a Greek life event on September 17.

The report from KOAT states that the sorority sisters also allegedly mocked the speaker of the event, Dr. Stephanie McIver. Dr. McIver is the school’s African American director of counseling at Student Health and Counseling.

NAACP UNM chapter president Nieajua Gonzalez confronted the member accused of making the comments. She says the student admitting to saying everything.

“I’m sorry, I said there is no way that you could have said that that was going to make it appropriate. Do you understand how offensive that is?” Gonzalez said.

KOAT reached out to the national branch of KKG and they responded saying they are aware of the incident and have reached out to the members involved privately. The statement goes on to say:

“KKG values diversity and inclusion among our membership, and we encourage our members to promote and demonstrate an understanding of these values, both on the college campus and in the world community.”

University of New Mexico president Garnett Stokes released the following statement about the racist incident:

“I have recently engaged with members of the Black Student Alliance and African American Student Services, and take to heart their concerns about our campus climate, and opportunities for improvement. Creating and sustaining a welcoming and respectful environment at UNM is a shared responsibility, that must be infused across both academic and social dimensions of campus life.”

Members of the University of New Mexico Black Student Union had a meeting with school officials about the incident on Monday, September 24.

Attorney Michael Avenatti has revealed that a third woman, Julie Swetnick, is accusing Kavanaugh of sexual assault. Swetnick becomes the third woman — joining Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez — to accuse the Supreme Court nominee of sexual assault.

Avenatti posted Swetnick’s affidavit on Twitter, which claims that when Kavanaugh was a high school student in the early 1980s, he and others “spiked the drinks of girls at house parties with grain alcohol and/or drugs to cause girls to lose inhibitions and their ability to say ‘No.’ ”

Swetnick claims that Kavanaugh and his buddy Mark Judge spiked drinks at parties so girls “could then be ‘gang-raped’ in a side room or bedroom by a ‘train’ of numerous boys.”

Furthermore, Swetnick’s affidavit states that she was a victim of Kavanaugh’s, stating that she “became the victim of one of these ‘gang’ or ‘train’ rapes where Mark Judge and Brett Kavanaugh were present” in 1982.

The release of Swetnick’s affidavit comes one day before Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford were set to testify in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

“I have a firm recollection of seeing boys lined up outside rooms at many of these parties waiting for their ‘turn’ with a girl inside the room,” she said in the statement. “These boys included Mark Judge and Brett Kavanaugh.”

Swetnick alleged she became one of the victims of “one of these ‘gang’ or ‘train’ rapes.”

She did not allege that Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted her. Two other women, Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez, have come forward with their own allegations against Kavanaugh.

Swetnick, a resident of Washington, D.C., said she was a graduate of Gaithersburg High School in Maryland. She had worked for several government agencies, including the U.S. Mint and the State Department, and had held security clearances, she said.

Avenatti has also called for an FBI investigation into Swetnick’s allegations. Kavanaugh has denied all accusations of sexual misconduct and claims to have been a virgin in high school.

At the time of this writing, the White House has not released a comment on the allegations made by Swetnick.

Harvard Endowment: Fund Size, Donations & Financial Details

Two students are injured inside a University of Delaware science laboratory on Wednesday, September 26.

According to NBC News, the blast happened Wednesday afternoon inside Brown Lab, connected to Drake Hall, a science laboratory on Academy Street in Newark, Delaware where two graduate students were working on an experiment containing a vessel on a hot plate exploded.

Update (2:26 P.M.): As WDEL reported, a call came in at around 1 P.M. reporting the explosion in Brown Lab. The students suffered cuts and exposure in the clast–injuries reported as minor–cited a UD spokesperson. Those students were sent to Christiana Hospital for treatment. The chemical in the explosion was Chromium Oxide. The students and emergency responders had to be decontaminated.

The situation has been deemed “under control.”

The Brown and Drake Buildings have been evacuated. NBC News reported that people were evacuated to the sidewalk and police and fire crews stationed outside.

Classes in the Brown and Drake labs have been canceled until further notice, according to a message to the university community.

A brand new season of the long-running CBS reality series Survivor, titled Survivor: David vs. Goliath is set to premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 26. The show will premier with a special 90-minute episode to kickoff the 37th season of the show. The “David” tribe will be comprised of ten underdogs who “constantly have to overcome obstacles,” while the “Goliath” tribe has been described as “ten top dogs who have used their advantages in life to rise to the top.

The show filmed in Mamanuca Islands, Fiji from March 29 through May 6, marking the sixth season to be filmed in Fiji.

This year’s diverse cast of contenders include two-time Amazing Race contestant Mike White and professional wrestler John Hennigan.

For as long as we’ve been playing video games, EA Sports’ FIFA franchise has long been king of the sports video game world — no matter what the sport.

Fans of the FOX hit show Empire are in for a treat this week with the season 5 premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 26. The show is set to continue the drama of the Lyon family with a little twist at the beginning of the season. In the premiere episode, fans will jump two years ahead of what they witnessed in the season 4 finale.

The season 5 premiere will be followed up by the series’ sister show Star.

One of the show’s stars, Jussie Smollett, spoke to the media at the Tribeca TV Festival and gave fans a bit of a teaser regarding what can be expected when the new season kicks off.

“This season is really about growth and unity. I think we needed this,” Smollett told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m really excited, everybody’s really excited. You see the vibe on set — everyone’s just happy to be there.”

Kevin Hart’s new comedy “Night School” opens September 28, 2018, and fans of the pint-sized comedy star can’t wait to see their leading man in another blockbuster film. Night School is about Kevin Hart’s character who, along with a group of troublemakers and misfits, must go to night school to earn his GED. The premise is simple: a comedy about adult learning taught by a hard-nosed teacher. The execution, however, is yet to be seen with early mixed reviews from fans and critics. Another Pennsylanvia State University student is set to be sentenced in the hazing death of Timothy Piazza. Piazza died on February 4, 2017 as a result of hazing.

Former Penn State Beta Theta Pi fraternity member Joseph Ems has pled guilty to hazing and two alcohol-related charges and will be sentenced today, September 27, in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania.

21-year-old Ryan Burke was the first member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity at Penn State to plead guilty in connection with the death of Timothy Piazza. He was sentenced on Tuesday, July 31.

Burke, 21, pleaded guilty to four counts of hazing and five counts related to unlawful acts involving liquor. The Scranton resident is just one of more than 20 members of the now-closed fraternity to face criminal charges over the February 2017 death of Piazza.

Originally, 25 fraternity members were charged with crimes, however, a judge dismissed the most serious counts of reckless endangerment and involuntary manslaughter.

Piazza passed away on February 4, 2017, after suffering a fractured skull and severe abdominal injuries from a fall during pledge night activities at the Beta Theta Pi house at Penn State. Piazza’s blood-alcohol level reportedly went “from a zero to as high as a .36”

Piazza’s death spurred a cascade of changes in the Penn State Greek life community and across the country. The school levied hard sanctions against greek life focused on hazing. These changes altered the rules for how fraternities and sororities can recruit members and host social events with alcohol. Beta Theta Pi was also permanently banned from Penn State.

Timothy Piazza, 19, was a 2015 graduate of Hunterdon Central Regional High School in Readington Township. He was a pledge of the fraternity’s Alpha Upsilon Chapter and was studying engineering while attending the university.

He also played football and track when he was in high school. He was a member of the homecoming court in 2014, and also served as a Red Devil ambassador at Hunterdon Center and on the school’s Teen Prevention Education Program. He did volunteer work to help teach children with special needs how to play sports such as football, basketball, and baseball.
