Donald Trump Fake News: Top 5 Untrue Viral Stories Of The Week Vol. 4

Win McNamee/Getty Images

Mark J. Bird is a 69-year-old College of Southern Nevada professor who is facing felony gun charges after he reportedly shot himself in the arm to protest President Trump.

According to a report from The Las Vegas Review-Journal, Bird, a College of Southern Nevada sociology professor, was charged with the unlawful discharge of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit and the possession a deadly weapon on school property after he allegedly shot himself in protest of President Trump on Tuesday, August 28.

Following the shooting, campus police said they recovered a $100 bill taped to a mirror in a university bathroom with a note that said: “For the janitor.” Similarly, Southern Nevada Campus police found .22-caliber pistol on the bathroom floor and a spent shell casing.

Bird, who has been teaching at the College of Sothern Nevada since 1993, is currently still employed at the school.

via The Hill:

Bird, who was reportedly an emeritus faculty member at the time of the incident, is not scheduled to teach courses at the school during the coming fall semester. It also remains unclear what disciplinary actions the college plans to take against Bird.

Though police did not disclose more details of the shooting to the local paper, Robert Manis, president of the college’s faculty union, told publication he has heard several rumors surrounding the incident. He also expressed concerns regarding the college’s lack of transparency surrounding the shooting.

“They never really told the students much about it except that it was resolved on the actual day of the shooting,” Manis said. “When you don’t give the full details, then rumors go crazy. It’s unfortunate because it made the students and faculty very afraid and allowed rumors to proliferate.”

At this time, a preliminary hearing for Bird is scheduled for September 17.

The College of Southern Nevada is a Nevada community college located in Clark County that has approximately 35,000 students. It is the largest public higher education institution in Nevada.

You can listen to the frantic call below:

In the aftermath of Miller’s death, a number of his peers have paid tribute to his life.

Sierra Dawn Measelle has been identified as the woman in a viral video out of Portland, Oregon that shows Measelle being racist.

Measelle, a stripper from Newburg, Oregon, was recorded making racist remarks. The video, which is about 30-seconds long was uploaded to Facebook on Wednesday, September 12.

“Before you say anything you might wanna make sure your actual legals,” Measelle can be heard saying in the now viral video.

“Before you say anything you might wanna make sure your actual legals, and then call the cops… [unintelligble],” Measelle says before the person recording asks “About what?”

“That you’re illegals crossing the border,” Measelle responds. “And your parents probably had to work for f*cking dirt just to get here.”

This just happened in Portland, Oregon. Racism exists. Y'all gotta wake up, can't believe this happened in my own city. Her name is Sierra Dawn Measelle and she's a stripper at the Stars in Bridgeport. RT and get this spread. pic.twitter.com/CJF0NLQXU8

— Ozzy (@OsccBreezy1) September 13, 2018

While some unconfirmed reports that Measelle worked at Stars Cabaret and Casa Diablo, both establishments have made statements denying Measelle’s employment.

In a statement on Facebook, Stars Cabaret said: “We would like to publicly address due to the calls & messages coming through, that we do not have a staff member or entertainer by the name of Sierra at our establishment.”

However, given that stripper’s usually use an alias while on the job, this statement could be mere semantics.

Selina Cairel has been identified as the woman who recorded the video of Measelle.

via Facebook:

I normally don’t share anything around here but I’m very upset. I was out with some friends last night in Portland and had a terrible encounter with a girl who was saying the nastiest most racist thing possible, after wasting my breath trying to knock some sense into her I just let her speak. It started when she had said in the most demeaning Poor excuse of a supposed “Asian” accent that “She’s Asian, she can’t see that’s why she can’t drive”. I was parked next to her and i did not instigate this at all. She was the one to pull out her phone first saying “ this should go on instagram” and started recording me.I literally just got back to my car from getting some voodoo donuts and just wanted to go home. I never let this pass and wanna make sure this kind of behavior is seen and how people of color encounter this all the time. I wanna make sure she gets seen and her racist, ignorant behavior is exposed.

According to public arrest records, Measelle has been previously charged with disorderly conduct, possession of a controlled substance, and violating open container laws.

Instagram

Measelle is just the latest white woman to go viral for their disgusting racist remarks.

Tabitha Duncan, a waitress in Missouri, was fired after she was recorded on camera using the n-word. Lori McAllen, a Department of Transportation in Oregon, also lost her job due to a racially charged Facebook post. Similarly, Harley Barber, a former student at the University of Alabama, was expelled after uploading a video of her saying the n-word to social media.

Minnesota Dylan Fulton Student Found Dead At Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity House

Dylan Fulton has been identified as the 20-year-old University of Minnesota student who was found dead at a fraternity house near the St. Paul campus on Wednesday, September 12.

Fulton, a sophomore from St. Lawrence, was an Animal Science major with an “emphasis in beef production” at the University of Minnesota. He was also a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. Furthermore, Fulton was a member of the university’s Gopher Dairy Club, a club focused on the dairy industry.

According to police spokesperson Steve Linders, while authorities do not believe foul play, hazing, or initiation practices were involved, alcohol could be a factor pending autopsy results.

Rex Martin, the CEO of the Alpha Gamma Rho organization, said in a statement: “We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones, as well as to our brothers in the University of Minnesota chapter.”

via Star Tribune:

Police were called about 5 a.m. to the fraternity house in the 2000 block of Carter Avenue. Police found the man dead in the home. Linders said he was unsure exactly where the man was located inside.

Residents last reported seeing the man alive by residents about 1 a.m. Linders said it’s unclear whether the man lived in the house. About 10 residents of the house were questioned at police headquarters and are cooperating.

Homicide detectives are investigating the case because the man was “seemingly healthy” before being found, Linders said.

Alcohol and hazing-related deaths have become far too common of an occurrence in today’s fraternity culture.

Some of the most recent alcohol or hazing-related deaths include Penn State University student Tim Piazza, LSU student Max Gruver, and Texas A&M student Joseph William Little.

According to his Facebook page, Fulton began attending the University of Minnesota in September 2017.

With 51,848 students in 2017, the University of Minnesota had the sixth-largest main campus student body in the United States, with 51,848 students in 2017–18.

FSU Frat Sued For “Scumbag Of The Week” Hazing Ritual That Left Pledge Brain-Damaged

The lawyers for Nicholas Mauricio, a former Florida State University student who was injured in April during a hazing ritual, have sued the
Alpha Epsilon Pi and several of its members due to the incident.

According to the suit, Mauricio was named the “Scumbag of the Week” by the fraternity and his punishment was to be slapped in the face by members of the fraternity.

However, the suit says that instead of getting slapped, Mauricio was punched in the face, fell backward and struck his head. Mauricio suffered a fractured skull and brain bleeds as a result of the incident.

At this time, AEPi remains suspended at Florida State and four students face misdemeanor hazing charges.

via WTXL:

The suit alleges that Mauricio spent five days in the ICU at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and still has several medical issues, to include permanent brain damage. The document states that Mauricio has be unable to return to school since the incident.

Eight fraternity members, to include the fraternity’s president, vice president, and pledge master, are also named in the lawsuit.

The lawsuit alleges the named members, along with the fraternity organization as a whole, were negligent and vicariously liable for what happened to Mauricio.

This is the latest major fraternity or sorority investigation, suspension, closure or lawsuit in the last couples of years, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have all suspended fraternities in the wake of hazing and alcohol deaths.

These reports come amidst similar allegations that have been made against fraternities nationwide, including Sigma Alpha Epsilon at East Carolina University, who was shut down for hazing and the Lambda Chi Alpha chapter at the University of Arkansas which has been accused of taking sexually explicit photographs of women without their permission.

In response to incidents like these, fraternities such Phi Kappa Psi have made numerous changes to their code of conduct in an effort to address the issues that have arisen. In addition, schools such as Texas State, West Virginia University, and Penn State University have introduced new Greek Life rules to try and prevent these problems.

Aaron Paul Joining Season 3 Of ‘Westworld’

AMC

As Westworld forges forward into season three — and what seems like an entirely new setting, the real world –the HBO sci-fi epic has added another big name actor to its already star-studded cast.

According to reports from Deadline, Aaron Paul, who famously portrayed Jesse Pinkman in all five seasons of Breaking Bad (and hopefully, eventually, in Better Call Saul as well) has signed on to join the Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy helmed hit.

Paul won three Emmy Awards for Best Supporting Actor for his work on Breaking Bad, while Westworld received 21 Emmy nominations for its second season.

While the exact role Paul will be playing is unknown, reports indicate that he will be a series regular on the show. The news of Paul’s casting was first reported by Deadline.

Who Is Aaron Paul Playing On Westworld?

*SPOILER ALERT for season two of Westworld*

Paul’s official role has not be confirmed.

Given that a group of hosts escaped from Westworld and into the real world at the end of season two, it wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine Paul playing a human character in that timeline — what can be considered the “main” timeline (at least as far as we know).

In the compound that the rebelling hosts appear to be residing in, there is a machine that can be used to print hosts, however, it seems unlikely that they would just conjure a host character out of thin air.

Our bet is that Paul plays a human of some sort, although when or where he pops up in the timeline, is anyone’s guess.

Antoya Wilson: Full Story & Must-See Details

YouTube

Antoya Wilson is the latest African American to appear in the headlines after being mistreated by law enforcement. In a troubling video that surfaced online, Arizona Police can be seen grabbing Wilson and dragging her to the ground before forcibly administering a blood test.

The incident occurred after Wilson was pulled over and the police in Mesa, Arizona claimed they smelled marijuana in her car.

According to the YouTube description, Wilson refused a blood test after the DUI stop and suggested a swab/urine test, citing a fear of needles. However, the Mesa Police Department had other ideas. She was assaulted and forcibly had her blood drawn.

Mesa Police Officer Sandor Binkley was identified as one of the officers using excessive force in pulling Wilson from the chair she was seated in.

You can check out the troubling video below.

After Wilson was dragged to the ground, the camera turns in a different direction but you can continue to hear her screaming. The description of the video adds “during this altercation Officer Sandor Binkley punches the woman in the face repeatedly,” but the video does not clearly show that.

“Please don’t do this to me. I quit. God forgive y’all,” Wilson can be heard pleading. “I don’t like needles.”

The state of Arizona has an “implied consent” law which means you are required to take a blood, breath, or urine test if you are arrested for DUI. If you are lawfully arrested and the officer believes you are under the influence, then you are to be given a test within two hours.

However, there is a part of the law that states you can refuse, but not without a minor penalty. It states:

If you are arrested and you refuse the test, then the officer will require that you surrender your license and will file a report that will result in the state suspending your license or permit for at least twelve months (for a first offense). You may change your mind and face no consequence of your present refusal, but you need to tell the officer that you will now take the test. Failure to expressly agree to or complete the test will be treated as a refusal.

In most situations, if you refuse to take a mandatory blood, breath, or urine test, you cannot be forced to do so. However, the state may administer the test if you are unconscious or dead.

The relationship came to light when the girl’s father found messages between her and Laidlaw on the girl’s phone, police said.

Officers with the Houston Police Department tried to interview Laidlaw at Cornerstone Academy, but she allegedly refused to cooperate. It is unclear when that interaction happened.

Spring Branch ISD officials removed the seventh-grade teacher from the classroom last week after learning of the allegations. She has been placed on administrative leave.

Laidlaw has been released from the Harris County Jail on bail and ordered to have no contact with the student, according to court records.

The school district released the following statement about the allegations against Laidlaw:

“We are outraged by this alleged conduct. The safety of every SBISD student is our very highest priority, and having a strong moral compass is a key district core value. We will never tolerate inappropriate actions on the part of any district employee who endangers or harms our students. These allegations, if true, are a complete breach of the trust our children, our community, and we place in our educators.”

Laidlaw is just the latest teacher to be charged for inappropriate conduct. Over the course of just a few months, educators across the country were arrested for entering into an inappropriate relationship with their students, Tennessee teacher Janet Smothers, LaToya Parker, Florida teacher Caroline Lawson, 26-year-old Allyson Moran and Katherine Ross Ridenhour were all arrested on similar charges. A woman named Kayla Sprinkles was arrested in North Carolina for similar sexual crimes.

The list goes on to include 22-year-old Oklahoma science teacher Hunter Day, 28-year-old teacher Megan Kotarski, 23-year-old history teacher Michelle Schiffer, 29-year-old Alyssia Marie Reddy, special education teacher Jordan Ondish and 28-year-old Samantha Fitzpatrick have all been allegedly carrying on inappropriate relationships with their students.

34-year-old Miranda Nicole Pauley was charged with similar crimes, Nancy Leigh Ann Brann, a former Christian school teacher, was arrested for having sex with a student, Coine Audiat pleaded no contest to having sex with a minor in 2016 and 23-year-old Darci Lake was arrested for an inappropriate relationship. 27-year-old Brittany Zamora from Arizona was arrested on similar charges. Keri Hoffman, 35, was also arrested for an alleged relationship with a student. Similarly, 29-year-old Tiffany Ranweiler-Oblander and 33-year-old Maren Oates were arrested on similar charges.

Most recently, 29-year-old Haylie Smart and 25-year-old Alaina Ferguson were charged with similar crimes.

Six fraternities at the University of Michigan have decided to disaffiliate with the school due to changes to Ann Arbor’s zoning code. The new zoning codes require all fraternity and sorority houses to possess university affiliation for permit consideration.

Alpha Epsilon Pi, Alpha Sigma Phi, Delta Chi, Phi Sigma Kappa, Psi Upsilon, and Theta Chi are the six fraternities who have decided to disaffiliate.

According to MLive, the move comes after the city of Ann Arbor’s decision to approve new regulations for fraternity and sorority houses, requiring them to maintain an affiliation with UM or another college or university in order for their houses to be specially permitted.

The city made the decision was made on July 16.

via MLive:

The rule does not retroactively apply to existing fraternities and sororities. Instead, it will take effect only with future permits granted by the city – either permits for newly established fraternities and sororities or for existing organizations looking to expand.

But the changes also mandate that any fraternity or sorority that loses recognition from UM as a result of extreme cases like sexual assault or hazing would have it’s special-exemption housing permit expire after two years, and the zoning would revert back to single-family or two-family home status.

Fraternity and sorority houses are allowed as special exceptions under Ann Arbor zoning code when approved by the city’s Planning Commission. The changes also codify a past practice for permit consideration to include a maximum occupancy component.

Last fall, the University of Michigan canceled all fraternity events due to allegations of hazing and sexual misconduct.

This is just the latest development in the ever-changing fraternity landscape that is trying to grapple with the perils of hazing and alcohol-related incidents.

During it’s run as the most revolutionary show on television — and arguably the greatest show ever made, depending on your opinion of Breaking Bad, The Sopranos and The Wire — Game Of Thrones has become known for many things.

Layered character and plot development, gorgeous locations, ruthlessly killing off main characters, and carefully crafted costumes are just some of those pillars that prop Thrones up as one of the best shows ever made.

However, above all of that, Game Of Thrones is known for its epic battle scenes.

Battle of the Blackwater, The Red Wedding, Battle at Castle Black, Hardhome, The Battle of the Bastards, Battle of the Goldroad (from “The Spoils of War” in season 7) and the Battle Beyond the Wall (also from season 7) are all of the big battle scenes that have blown us away throughout the years, and according to Peter Dinklage, we ain’t seen nothing yet.

via Uproxx:

Peter Dinklage may have tipped his hand at the premiere of I Think We’re Alone Now, when he was asked if the show can top the Battle of the Bastards. “Oh my god, and then some,” he responded. “You are in for it. Truly.”

Considering that the White Walkers are officially south of the wall, the battle Dinklage is likely referencing will feature any and all remaining surviving Game Of Thrones characters against the White Walkers.

Game Of Thrones eighth and final season is set to be out in 2019. While no official release date has been confirmed, sometime between April and August seems most likely at this point.
