Guyger, 30, has since been arrested and charged with manslaughter. She was booked into was booked into the Kaufman County Jail. After being checked into Kaufman County Jail around 7:20 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, and posted bond of $300,000 and was released by 8:30 p.m.

According to various reports, Guyger fatally shot 26-year-old Botham Jean on Thursday, September 6, inside of Jean’s apartment. Jean grew up on the Caribbean Island of St Lucia and studied at Harding University in Arkansas.

via The Washington Post:

Guyger, still in uniform after working a shift, went inside Jean’s apartment, apparently thinking that it was hers. Police have said little else about what happened, other than that Guyger fired her weapon. She called 911, and Jean died at a hospital.

A video taken from outside the building shows the officer on her phone, pacing back and forth outside the apartment, and crying. Paramedics were later seen moving a man on a gurney and performing CPR on him.

Authorities had initially held off on obtaining an arrest warrant for Guyger. Dallas Police Chief Renée Hall said investigators needed more time to decipher what they have described as an unusual case of a shooting by an officer. The Texas Ranger Division, a separate agency that’s investigating the case, had asked that the warrant be postponed.

The Washington Post reports that a police spokeswoman referred questions to the Texas Ranger Division. The Texas Department of Public Safety, which oversees the Texas Rangers Division, has not responded to a request for comment beyond issuing a brief news release announcing Guyger’s arrest.

Guyger, who has been with the Dallas Police Department since 2014, has been placed on administrative leave.

If convicted of manslaughter, Guyge faces between two and 20 years in prison.

In the days following the tragic death of rapper Mac Miller, tributes from artists, friends, fans, and family began pouring onto social media.

From peers like Chance The Rapper and Wiz Khalifa to ex-girlfriends such as Ariana Grande, everyone who seemed to have somewhat of a relationship with Malcolm James McCormick seemed utterly devastated by the news of his untimely passing.

However, of all the social media tributes thus far, none have been nearly as heartbreaking as the tribute from Miller’s own mother, Karen Meyers.

Posted about 24 hours after the news of her son’s death, Meyers uploaded an adorable photo of the mother and son enjoying a Pittsburgh Pirates game at PNC Park. The photo was captioned with a simple yet devastating broken heart emoji.

Miller, who was famously from Pittsburgh, was a noted fan of all things black & yellow.

Kanye West Is Going To Start Teaching College Courses… Or Is He?

UPDATE: Maybe Kanye West won’t be teaching college courses after all. Despite tweeting over the weekend that he would be teaching a course at the Art Institute of Chicago and the American Academy of Art, a school spokesperson has said otherwise.

“We’re flattered that Mr. West would have an interest in teaching emerging artists and designers at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago; however, Mr. West is not currently teaching at SAIC, and at this time, there are no plans for him to do so,” a spokesperson from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago told COED in a statement.

The original story can be seen below.

If you ever wanted to learn directly from Kanye West, you’re going to get your chance. This weekend, the hip-hop star announced that he will be teaching college courses at The Art Institute of Chicago and the American Academy of Art. There is no word on exactly when Kanye will begin teaching or what courses he will teach, but it’s now out there for the world to see.

Neither school has confirmed Kanye’s comments.

I will teach a course at the Art Institute of Chicago and the American Academy of Art

— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) September 10, 2018

Kanye previously received an honorary PhD from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2005, via VICE.com. Kanye’s mother was previously a professor at Chicago State University, where Kanye briefly attended along with the American Academy of Art.

“This is what we’re all about at the Art Institute of Chicago,” said Lisa Wainwright, dean of faculty and vice president of academic affairs for the school, in a statement at the time he received his honorary degree, via NBC-5 Chicago. “Our students have no majors, Kanye has no major. He crosses disciplines, he’s from Chicago, he impacts the culture in a profound way. This is a guy who is struggling with the historical moment with issues of race and class and fame and power and sexuality. It’s so in accord with what our students are doing.”

Kanye, who was born in Atlanta, Georgia but calls Chicago home, has been staying busy as a rapper, songwriter, producer, and fashion designer. Kanye has collaborated with brands like Nike and Louis Vuitton, while recently producing a string of albums this summer from artists like Pusha T, Nas, and Teyana Taylor. Now, as long as he’s not trolling the world, he can add college professor to his list of credentials.

Missouri College Ditches Nike Gear Due To Colin Kaepernick

The College of the Ozarks (not related to the Jason Bateman Netflix series), a small Christian college in Missouri, has announced that its students will no longer wear Nike athletic uniforms due to the company’s Colin Kaepernick endorsement.

Following the announcement, the women’s volleyball team was the first to team to play a game, wearing gray T-shirts instead of their Nike uniforms.

Instagram

via Springfield News-Leader:

The private Christian college announced in a press release that student-athletes will no longer wear the brand in response to the company’s 30th-anniversary ad campaign featuring former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

“In their new ad campaign, we believe Nike executives are promoting an attitude of division and disrespect toward America,” College of the Ozarks President Jerry C. Davis said in a news release. “If Nike is ashamed of America, we are ashamed of them. We also believe that those who know what sacrifice is all about are more likely to be wearing a military uniform than an athletic uniform.”

The College of the Ozarks is one of the most conservative colleges in the country, so the decision isn’t all that surprising.

In 2017, the school introduced a mandatory “patriotism” class for incoming freshman. The course, called Patriotic Education and Fitness, teaches students about topics including flag protocols, military customs, and U.S. politics.

Similarly, The Wall Street Journal has called the university “Hard Work U” due to their unique work-study program.

Much of the College of the Ozark’s curriculum is based on character building, an honor code, and convocations and chapel attendance.

Donald Glover Pays Tribute To Mac Miller During His Concert

Donald Glover is currently on tour — for what he says is “the last time” —  as Childish Gambino, and during his show in Chicago on Saturday, September 8, he paid tribute to fellow “internet music kid” Mac Miller.

Miller, born Malcolm James McCormick, tragically passed away on Friday, September 6 due to an apparent overdose.

Glover, performing at the United Center in Chicago, took a moment to address Miller’s death, which he admitted had him “f*cked up”:

“I’m a very sensitive person. I am very sensitive. But this Mac Miller shit got me f*cked up. And I’m serious, and I see some of y’all taking your phone out, put your phone down. I don’t wanna commodify this moment. This is a moment. I don’t want this get on the internet and be sold again and again because that’s what happening to him right now, he’s not even allowed to really be dead. We’re not even really allowed to be sad about this kid who, he was so nice. Y’all don’t know, like he was the sweetest guy, he was so nice.

And we were both internet music kids cause, ya know, we came up during the internet, and a lot of critics were like, ‘Yo, this corny-ass white dude,’ just like they were like, ‘Yo, this corny-ass black dude,’ and we used to talk. And this kid, he just loved music. And we should be allowed to be sad about it.

Like my heart was broken — like if you guys knew him, I wish — and I feel good about being sad, because it tells me that he was special, that I had a special moment, you know what I’m saying? Everybody deserves that, everybody in this room, you are nobody’s narrative. You know sometimes people struggle with that, you know, people tell you who you are on the internet‘you’re the corny ass white dude, you’re the corny ass black kid, you’re the weirdo, you’re the this, you’re the that, you’re the smart arty black girl’, they’ll make a narrative about you. But we’re all way to complex to be a narrative. So I just want to say, ‘I love you, Mac,’ and I just want to tell you guys that I love you and this song is for him, because I feel like sometimes he wanted to let go.”

Glover then dedicated his performance of Riot to the late McCormick.

Thank you for the music, Mac. May you rest in peace.

College football player Derek Loccident is in the hospital and recovering from a gruesome accident and injury. According to the Oklahoma City Police Department, Loccident was attempting to crawl under a stopped train when the train began to move and severed his foot.

Loccident is a 20-year-old sophomore member of the Central Oklahoma football program.

“The University of Central Oklahoma Athletics Department wishes to extend its full support to the Loccident family following an accident involving Derek Loccident Sunday morning. Derek is a sophomore on the UCO football Team,” head football coach Nick Bobeck said in a statement released by the university.

“The only thing that matters right now is that Derek knows he has our full support. We are here for him. It’s important for his family to know that to[o]. This isn’t about him being a football player right now, it’s about him being a young man that we are here for.”

Please join UCO in sending your support, thoughts, prayers, and well wishes, to sophomore defensive back Derek Loccident and his family. https://t.co/4dQqd4rakk pic.twitter.com/umvcFhgbPF

— UCO Bronchos (@ucoathletics) September 10, 2018

The incident reportedly occurred shortly after 3:00 a.m. After losing his foot, Loccident traveled several hundred yards before he was able to flag down help. He was then transferred to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

From Oklahoma’s News 4:

The Oklahoma City Police Department originally said on Sunday that Loccident had been walking along the tracks sometime before 3 a.m., when the mechanical railroad switch activated, pinning his foot in the mechanism. However, Oklahoma City police announced Monday morning that Loccident had actually been crawling under a stopped train when the train started moving and amputated his left foot.

Loccident, who joined Central Oklahoma out of Westmoore High School, was an All-Conference, All-District, and Class 6A All-Star during his high school career. Loccident made 53 tackles and one interception, and also lettered in track and field. The 20-year-old from Oklahoma City is a criminal justice major.

Our thoughts are with Loccident during his recovery.

Child Of Pregnant Texas A&M Alum Is Already Rebelling, Is A Longhorns Fan

Samantha Perkins via CBS Houston

They say football is like a religion in Texas (do they? I may have just made that up), especially when it comes to college football.

With the University of Texas, Texas A&M, SMU (RIP), TCU, Texas Tech, Baylor (RIP), and the University of Houston, the college football culture is a deep and rich one. And because of that, it goes without saying that the rivalries between these two schools are as passionate as rivalries come.

So, when your unborn child declares his fandom for a rival school before even being born, does that mean he begins his life in time out?

These are questions for Samanta Perkins — a Texas A&M whose sonogram shows her 21-week-old baby doing the famed UT ‘Hook em’ sign — not me.

via CBS Austin:

When the soon-to-be parents went to the doctor this week, they were surprised by what they saw on the sonogram.

“(The tech) asked if we were (University of Texas) Longhorns fans,” Perkins said. “My husband and I just looked at each other.”

When she showed them the screen, all they could do was laugh. Instead of a “Gig ’em,” this future A&M Aggie was flashing a UT “Hook ’em Horns” sign.

Despite the appearance that the little guy is already rooting for their rivals, the University of Texas, Perkins and her husband are not giving up.

“Going to the (Clemson University) game this weekend,” Perkins said. “Starting the brainwashing early.” Perkins was in the Aggie band, while her husband was in the Corps of Cadets.

Samantha and her husband hope their baby will be a fourth-generation Aggie, as his great-grandfather was in the class of 1938, his uncle graduated in 1984, and his mother graduated in 2008.

Gun to your head, I bet you thought the University of Hawaii-esque linebacker was going to come out on top. Don’t feel bad, though, because so did I.

At first, context clues from viral fight videos in the past seem to indicate that Maui from Moana was going to be the clear victor, as she begins the video in a dominant position and throws the first punch. Easy victory, right?

WRONG!

Fired out of a cannon like she just railed a line of pure, uncut pumpkin spice powder, this teenage cheerleader — who probably weighs 100 pounds soaking wet — absolutely demolishes Rikishi (that’s a WWF Attitude Era reference for ya) with a fury of lightning speed blows.

via Twitter:

“so my little sister got in a fight tonight and i don’t think i’ve ever been more proud  with her phone in her hand & everything lmao THATS MY MF SISTER LETS GOOOOOOO”

— sierra sprague (@sierrasprague) September 8, 2018

The clip was uploaded to Twitter by 19-year-old Sierra Sprague, the sister of the cheerleader/lightweight Ronda Rousey in the video.

According to the New York Post, officials at Clayton Valley Charter High School did not have an immediate comment when reached for comment. Furthermore, Sprague and the school’s cheerleading coach also did not return messages seeking additional comment.

In hindsight, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that the diminutive Sprague came away victorious, as Conor McGregor once famously said ‘precision beats power and timing beats speed’.

The feud between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B is showing no signs of slowing down. After the two hip-hop stars were involved in an altercation at New York Fashion Week on Saturday, Sept. 8 — which included Cardi B throwing a shoe at Minaj — Minjah used her platform on Queen Radio to continue dissing her rival in the rap game.

Following the altercation, Cardi B accused Minaj of talking crap about her child, but Minaj adamantly denied those claims.

“I just want people to know that Onika Tanya Maraj has never, will never speak ill on anyone’s child,” she said. “I am not a clown. That’s clown sh*t. The other thing is to tell the world something just because you look f*cking dumb. You knew that when that footage came out, you was about to look f*cking dumb, so your publicist—also looking f*cking dumb…—they hurried up and put out a statement. I’m such a ill-ass b*tch I didn’t even feel the need to defend myself that night.”

She continued to diss Cardi B for the way she handled herself in the setting.

“The other night I was part of something so mortifying and so humiliating to go through in front of a bunch upper echelon people who have their life together. The way they passed by looking at this disgusting commotion,” she said. “I was mortified. I was in a Gaultier gown—off the motherf*cking runway—and I could not believe how humiliated it all felt because we made ourselves look [ridiculous].”

Things really escalated with a warning to Cardi B about the consequences of continuing to lash out in public.

“The world gave you a blessing, of a beautiful bundle of joy, and the only thing on your mind after you gave birth was to attack people and to stop their bagsm” Minaj wrote. “And you wanna let your publicist write something about stopping bags? Do you know what it is to sit in your room for hours and days at a time writing raps? You came into my f*cking culture! I never had a DJ to play my f*cking songs.”

“Get this woman some f*cking help. This woman is at the best stage of her career and she’s throwing bottles and shoes? You n****s don’t care until somebody’s f*cking dead…. This sh*t ain’t f*cking funny. You put your hands on certain people, you gonna die. Period.”

Now we just have to wait to see how Cardi B responds to the last remarks from Minaj.

Following his tragic and untimely death on September 6, giants of the music game such as Drake, Elton John, and Donald Glover, have paid tribute to the late Mac Miller during their recent live performances. J. Cole can be added to that list now, too.

After their initial news of Miller’s passing broke, Cole took to Twitter to provide a helping hand to anyone else in the rap game who may be struggling, saying:

“This is a message for anybody in this game that’s going through something. If you don’t feel right, if you feel you have a substance problem, if you need a ear to vent to. If you uncomfortable talking to people around you. Please reach out to me.”

Miller’s death is clearly weighing heavily on Cole, as his most recent album, KOD, was largely about the substance abuse issues that are currently plaguing our nation. Additionally, Cole recently worked with Miller, producing the song “Hurt Feelings” on his fifth and final album Swimming.

I’ve watch Cole perform every night for two years.

This was the first time I ever witness him cry on stage. #RIPMacMiler

Never seen cole cry. But Mac Miller's death really hit him. Kids on drugs is what his whole KOD album was about. One of his greatest albums yet. The message is to stay away from drugs. Please people. Save your own lives. pic.twitter.com/oW1PbZp7iH

During his Las Vegas concert the day of Miller’s death, Cole gave an impassioned speech about trauma, abuse, and dealing with your issues.

“As you grow up, you go through some traumatic shit. You leave it alone and you ignore it, and before you know it, you’re 20 fucking years old and you’re walking around with all this shit that’s accumulated.

Every day, Vegas, people die…. And they never got a chance to deal with their shit. I’m not trying to wait till I die to deal with my shit. I’m trying to deal with my shit right fuckin’ now.”

Cole then dedicated his performance of “Loves Yourz” to Miller:
