Rutgers Scarlet Knights Football 2018-19: Predictions & Preview

The Big Ten is a tale of two stories, there are the five powerhouses at the top, and then the bottom seven who would be lucky to go bowling. Rutgers easily falls into the ladder and has consistently been one of the bottom three in the conference. Head coach Chris Ash has done as much as he can and has actually built a respectable defense, but when your offense can’t score that can quickly go unnoticed. Six total wins in his first two seasons may have not been what he pictured, but we need to give him credit for the immensely talented secondary he has built.

2018-19 Summary

Instagram Photo

With a 6-18 record in his first two seasons, head coach Chris Ash may be fast approaching the dreaded hot seat. It hasn’t all been negative for Ash, however, as he took over one of the worst teams in the Power Five conferences and has somehow created a defensive identity for his Scarlet Knights. The offensive is still abysmal, and sadly there is no reason to be optimistic that 2018 will be any different. Quarterback Giovanni Rescigno has been very shaky, with many down moments and few ups. It certainly won’t help with an entirely new pass catching core. But back to the defense, there back seven is actually as good as any, maybe in the country, and if the Scarlet Knights can get any sort of pass rush, that strength will be put on full display. Although Rutgers should be able to clean up the out-of-conference schedule, winning a game in the Big Ten could be a tough feat. Their best chance will come in the four-game stretch featuring matchups against Indiana, Illinois, Maryland, and Northwestern. Sadly, it is more likely that they lose all four rather than steal one. Chris Ash will likely get one more year regardless of record this year, but I can promise he is not the problem.

Record: Wins 3, Losses 9

Week 1: Rutgers 42, Texas State 13 (W)
Week 2: Rutgers 20, Ohio State 45 (L)

Maryland Terrapins 2018-19: Predictions & Preview

Maryland football has been on the steady decline in recent years. The signing of DJ Durkin was supposed to change that, but the team’s performance in 2017 suggested otherwise. While injuries may have plagued them to a degree, they still had no real shot of competing with Big Ten East teams, let along the Big Ten in general. The offense could be fun this year, with the return of health at some key positions, but with the defense still expect to be abysmal, expectations must be held in check at College Park.

2018-19 Summary

Instagram Photo

As DJ Durkin enters his third year with the Terps, he will have his most talented roster yet. With low expectations, his 10-15 record could be worst, and he shouldn’t be too worried about the hot seat. With returning quarterbacks Tyrell Pigrome and Kasim Hill; if one of them can come back with full health and the 2017 version of themselves, then this offense could be explosive in their rushing attack. Defensively, things will remain a challenge, but the return of Jesse Aniebonam should allow for the front seven to create some sort of disruption. With Texas out-of-conference, along with a Big Ten East schedule, another disappointing season could be awaiting Maryland. It will be essential for the Terps to win their early-season matchups against Bowling Green and Temple because Maryland could be an underdog in all of their Big Ten matchups and would be lucky to steal one or two. With this formula, another 4-8 record seems probable.

Record: Wins 3, Losses 9

Brenda Song burst onto the scene as a child fashion model. She then began acting and found her way to the Disney Channel where she starred on a number of shoes like The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and The Suite Life on Deck. She has since evolved as an actress and appeared in films like The Social Network and on television in roles on Scandal and New Girl.

As a child star, Song discussed what it’s like to always be reminded of your work.

Still to this day, when kids come up and they’re like, “Oh my God, we love this episode!”, it’s still kind of shocking for us to know that kids and families really sit down to watch it. Because when we’re shooting this, we’re so proud of the work we do, we put so much heart into it that we don’t really care if people are watching because we love what we do. But then to know that people respond so well, it takes it to another level and it’s so surprising and shocking, but very flattering at the same time.

The 30-year-old is currently dating actor Macaulay Culkin.

William Wilkinson: Georgia Teacher Donates Kidney To 12-Year-Old Student

William Wilkinson can add hero to his resume. The teacher at Grace Christian Academy in Powder Springs, Georgia is helping out a 12-year-old student in the best way possible by being a living kidney donor for his student, Kaden Koebcke. Koebcke previously had a kidney transplant when he was five years old. A kidney was donated by his father, but things didn’t work out. He was in need of a living kidney donor.

“It came back so badly that they had to remove it within five days of them putting it in, so that — that definitely didn’t go as planned,” Koebcke said, via MSN.

Koebcke is living with a kidney disease he was diagnosed with since age 2.

“With his particular situation, he can’t receive a kidney from a deceased donor, so he is in need of a living kidney donor,” a Facebook page called Kaden’s Kidney Search explains.

Koebcke explained the battle he has been facing and what he is looking forward to after successful surgery last week.

“I’ve had to be on dialysis for about 10 years now, and it’d really be awesome to live a normal life and not have to live life hooked up to a machine,” he said.

According to the Facebook page, Koebcke is now doing well.

“Will’s surgery is done and he did well with vital signs stable throughout! The kidney is already over to the other hospital and they are in the process of getting the kidney into [Koebcke]. Continue the prayers!!!” the Facebook page explained. “Will had a good night as well. He has some discomfort at times but handling it well. He’s already been up 2x to take a walking lap and he sat up in the chair for 2 hours. Can’t thank you all enough for your prayers. We appreciate you. But it’s not over yet…more recovery to take place so please keep praying!”

Nebraska Cornhuskers Football 2018-19: Predictions & Preview

Coaching is everything in college football, and thanks to their rich history, Nebraska was able to pull off the best hire of the summer of 2017. Scott Frost is coming home, and his job will be to save the fate of the declining Nebraska Cornhuskers. He is going to have his hands full with one of the weakest rosters in all of Division 1 football, but if he could turn UCF into an undefeated national contender, skies the limit down the road. But to be able to compete, he is going to have to recruit. The roster he will be coaching in 2018 won’t feature his recruiting class so keep expectations low. There is a hole at just about every level of the defense, while the offense will feature no big names. A three-win season would be an accomplishment for Frost, and the Big Ten will need to prepare for a national contender for the years to come.

2018-19 Summary

Instagram Photo

A storied program that has been on a steep downhill slide may have just saved their future with the best hire of the summer. Former Cornhusker quarterback Scott Frost has decided to leave his undefeated UCF squad to rebuild his alma mater. A huge decision, especially with all the talent he had returning to his undefeated and self-proclaimed national champion UCF team, Frost couldn’t stand to watch the fall of his once all-mighty Nebraska Cornhuskers. However, year one is going to be about building tendencies and a foundation thanks to one of the weakest rosters in all of the Power Five conferences. To start, his quarterback decision is between a walk-on and a three-star freshman recruit. The defense isn’t any better as they will be returning a group that managed to be on the least efficient groups in all the country last year. The good news is that Frost’s recruiting prowess should set up Nebraska for an incredibly bright future, but the 2018 campaign will not be apart of that. On top of an already talent-depleted roster, the schedule will not be doing Frost any favors with matchups against Troy and Colorado out-of-conference. He will be likely to just get one of those games, and in these predictions, we give him the benefit of the doubt thanks to his long history against Colorado. Big Ten play could be really rough as well, and just one win would be an accomplishment. The best chance for that win will come in games against Purdue, Minnesota, and the transitioning Northwestern Wildcats.

Record: Wins 3, Losses 9

Week 1: Nebraska 35, Akron 14 (W)
Week 2: Nebraska 28, Colorado 20 (W)

St. Peters Police Department

Ericka Beverly Oxford, a 41-year-old volunteer track coach, has been arrested and charged with felony sexual contact after she was caught having sex with a 17-year-old student. Oxford helped coach at Fort Zumwalt East High School in Missouri.

According to reports, the student’s father caught Oxford and his 17-year-old son having intercourse in May 2018 following a team practice.

Bail was set at $20,000, with the condition that she not contact the victim or his family, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch announced.

The school sent out a letter to students to say that the incident did not occur on school grounds.

“St. Peters police assure me that none of the alleged contact occurred at school,” the letter said. “The accused passed a thorough background check used for volunteers and was registered with the Missouri State High School Activities Association.”

Ericka is just the latest teacher to be charged for an inappropriate relationship with a teenager. Over the course of just a few months, educators across the country were arrested for entering into an inappropriate relationship with their students, Tennessee teacher Janet Smothers, LaToya Parker, Florida teacher Caroline Lawson, 26-year-old Allyson Moran and Katherine Ross Ridenhour were all arrested on similar charges. A woman named Kayla Sprinkles was arrested in North Carolina for similar sexual crimes.

The list goes on to include 22-year-old Oklahoma science teacher Hunter Day, 28-year-old teacher Megan Kotarski, 23-year-old history teacher Michelle Schiffer, 29-year-old Alyssia Marie Reddy, special education teacher Jordan Ondish and 28-year-old Samantha Fitzpatrick have all been allegedly carrying on inappropriate relationships with their students.

In addition, 31-year-old Nicole Marie Andrews, 32-year-old Jessica Langford, 29-year-old Andrea Baber, 27-year-old Robin Dunlap, 27-year-old Jennifer Olajire-Aro have also been charged with these charges.

34-year-old Miranda Nicole Pauley was charged with similar crimes, Nancy Leigh Ann Brann, a former Christian school teacher, was arrested for having sex with a student, Coine Audiat pleaded no contest to having sex with a minor in 2016 and 23-year-old Darci Lake was arrested for an inappropriate relationship. 27-year-old Brittany Zamora from Arizona was arrested on similar charges. Keri Hoffman, 35, was also arrested for an alleged relationship with a student. More recently, 29-year-old Tiffany Ranweiler-Oblander and 33-year-old Maren Oates were arrested on similar charges.

The 2018 college football season is just around the corner and the most important rankings have been released. On Monday, Aug. 20, the Associated Press unveiled its AP Top 25 preseason poll for the upcoming campaign. In the Coaches Poll and FWAA-NFF Super 16 rankings, reigning national champion Alabama was the clear top-ranked team. That was expected to be the same when the Associated Press poll was unveiled.

As expected, the Crimson Tide did top the list with 42 first-place votes.

Rounding out the top five were the Clemson Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, Wisconsin Badgers, and Ohio State Buckeyes. Clemson received 18 first-place votes, while Wisconsin received one.

Earlier this month, the Amway Coaches Poll dropped with the defending national champion Alabama Crimson Tide sitting at No. 1, but that poll bears no influence in the College Football Playoff rankings. That’s why the release of the AP Top 25 poll is the most important of the preseason, with our first look at how things could play out throughout the year.

The full top 25 AP rankings can be seen below.

University of California-Berkeley professor Nezar AlSayyad has been suspended three years without pay. AlSayyad is a renowned architecture professor but was suspended for allegedly sexually harassing a UC Berkeley graduate student and doctoral candidate. AlSayyad “engaged in a pattern of sexual harassment that created a hostile environment,” Vice Provost Benjamin Hermalin wrote, via the San Francisco Chronicle.

AlSayyad is accused of isolating the student, Eva Hagberg Fisher, from other faculty members in order to put himself in a position of power and influence.

The suspension came after a nearly two-year investigation.

From The Chronicle:

His ongoing manipulation, according to the investigation, intimidated and isolated Hagberg Fisher. He told her that other faculty members were skeptical of her ability as a scholar and that he would protect her from “two vultures” in the architecture department who had targeted her, the investigation found. Hagberg Fisher said AlSayyad’s comments and behavior caused her to change departments and the course of her career.

AlSayyad is an internationally recognized scholar and speaker who has taught at UC Berkeley since 1985. He was barred from teaching courses in 2016, when The Chronicle broke the story of the harassment findings. Within days, students demanded his removal.

When the investigation first began, AlSayyad continued collecting a $211,000 salary and advising students.

AlSayyad, who is 62 years old, is barred from nonpublic areas of the campus and can no longer supervise grad students or “participate in faculty governance or engage in other specific activities.”

“Chancellor Christ determined that Professor AlSayyad’s pattern of unwelcome, manipulative, and divisive behavior was harmful to students, including you specifically, and to his faculty colleagues,” Hermalin wrote.

According to the report, there have been decades of allegations against AlSayyad, but the university had never stepped in until Hagberg’s Title IX investigation.

AlSayyad is just the latest teacher to be charged for an inappropriate relationship with a teenager.

Malik Henry Update: Where Will ‘Last Chance U’ Star Play In 2018?

While another season of the Netflix reality documentary “Last Chance U” will be returning to Independence Community College in Kansas for season 4 next year, it looks like one of the season 3 stars will not be returning to campus in 2018. Henry, who transferred to the Pirates from Florida State, seems unlikely to return to the community college based on comments from the team’s coaching staff, specifically head coach Jason Brown.

“He is trying to come back, but I don’t think I can make that work,” Brown said, per Last Chance U Alum’s twitter page.

Henry has said that he has been recruited by multiple schools, though no official reports have surfaced that identify any potential suitors. As a result, it seems likely that if Henry is going to return to the field in 2018 that it will be for another JUCO and not a Division I program like he had hoped.

The signal-caller also discussed how he was portrayed on the series.

I think Greg Whiteley, the director, did a great job. I just wish we they would have shown the other side of me and Coach Brown’s relationship just a little more, because I feel like more people would have realized that he is more like an older brother, father figure type…

They just didn’t show both sides and they could have shown both sides. They had a lot of opportunities to but they didn’t…

They put in a lot of my trash talking. That’s stuff that fans and people watching the game wouldn’t hear unless I was mic’d up.

We will have to see where the next chapter takes Henry.

Cottonwood Police Department

Isabella Bowman, a 22-year-old teacher from Dr. Daniel Bright Elementary School in Cottonwood, Arizona, has been arrested for suspicion of sexual conduct with a minor. According to the Cottonwood Police Department, Bowman was having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old. The kid, however, was not a student at the Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District and the relationship initially began outside of a school setting.

“We do not believe there are any other victims at this time, however, this investigation is still ongoing,” said Detective Sergeant Chad Sinn, of the Cottonwood Police Department, in a press release via azcentral.com.

Bowman has been placed on administrative leave.

It is believed that Bowman also had alleged possession of marijuana along with the sexual misconduct allegations.

“COCSD is committed to the safety of all students and expects all staff to adhere to the highest ethical practices and conduct when it comes to our community’s children,” the district announced in a statement. “We must all work together, staff, students, families and community to provide a safe learning environment for children to learn, grow and thrive.”

An investigation is ongoing.

Silent Sam, a controversial Confederate statue that was located at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus, was torn down by protesters on Monday night. The statue came down around 9:30 p.m.

Over 300 protestors showed up to the rally at the base of the Silent Sam statue around 7 p.m. EST on Monday, August 20. During the protest, the crowd was heard chanting “Tar Heels!” and “Whose Campus? Our Campus!”.

Prior to Monday night,  the “Silent Sam” statue had been standing on the UNC campus since 1913.

During the course of the protest, one person was arrested and charged with resisting arrest and for concealing one’s face during a public rally.

via WRAL:

Protesters first sectioned off the area around the controversial statue with large banners, blocking it from view. Throughout the course of the evening, people in the crowd speculated about what might be going on behind the banners, but no one confessed to knowing the plan.

People chanted “stand up, fight back” and “hey, hey, ho, ho, this racist statue has got to go.” Many also held signs.

Around 9 p.m., protesters left the base of “Silent Sam” and marched to Franklin Street, where they formed a large circle in the street, briefly blocking the intersection of Franklin and Columbia.

The march continued down Franklin Street and ended back at the base of “Silent Sam.” Soon after, the Confederate statue came crashing down. Once it was on the ground, protesters were shoveling dirt on top of it and stomping on it.

Following the protest, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper issued a statement saying that he “understands that many people are frustrated by the pace of change and he shares their frustration, but violent destruction of public property has no place in our communities.”

The University of North Carolina also issued a statement Monday night, calling the actions of the protesters “dangerous”:

Dear Carolina Community,

As you are probably aware, a group from among an estimated 250 protestors brought down the Confederate Monument on our campus last night.

The monument has been divisive for years, and its presence has been a source of frustration for many people not only on our campus but throughout the community.

However, last night’s actions were unlawful and dangerous, and we are very fortunate that no one was injured. The police are investigting the vandalism and assessing the full extent of the damage.

I appreciate the actions taken by the police to ensure the community’s safety and will keep you informed as additional information is available.

Sincerely,

Carol L. Folt.

2018 MTV VMA’s Red Carpet Photos: Best & Must-See Pictures

WENN

The 2018 VMA’s — also known as the MTV Video Music Awards — were held on Monday, August 20, at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City, where all of the country’s biggest musicians and artists were in attendance.

From Rita Ora to Camilla Cabello to Nicki Minaj, some of the most famous (and most stunning) pop stars on the planet were in attendance to bring home some hardware and flaunt their best assets.

However — because this is how award shows tend to go in 2018 —  most of the night was marked by political stances and controversy.

From Logic’s “F*ck the wall” t-shirt to Madonna’s preposterously self-absorbed “tribute” to Aretha Franklin, the 2018 Video Music Awards was anything but a night to escape from the problems of the world.

The red carpet, on the other hand, was everything we’d hoped it’d be and more.

As for the award show itself, there were a couple of big winners. Camilla Cabello won Artist of the Year and the award for Video of the Year for “Havanna”.

Post Malone and 21 Savage’s “Rockstar” won Song of the Year while Cardi B won the award for Best New Artist.

Childish Gambino’s groundbreaking “This Is America” also received some much-deserved recognition, winning the awards for Best Direction and Best Video with a Message (doesn’t really roll of the tongue, does it?).
