Boston College Eagles Football 2018-19: Predictions & Preview

It is teams like Boston College that come to mind when you think about the weak ACC. Teams that just seem to struggle in this weak conference every season; when they win six or more and go bowling it’s a big deal. That should not be the case with a Power 5 school, but unfortunately for the ACC, it is the majority as they are extremely top heavy every year. The health of star-stud quarterback Anthony Brown will play a major role in the Eagles season and could be the difference between two wins or seven wins.

2018-2019 Summary

Instagram Photo

In Steve Addazio’s tenure as head coach of the Eagles, consistency had lacked in a big way. After a tumultuous 2-10 season, the Eagles bounced back with a 7-6 record the following season. Just a year ago, Addazio’s group started the season 2-4 in the first six games, and then followed that up with a 5-2 record in the following 7 to get to that 7-6 job-saving record for the coaching staff. While this isn’t the deepest team in the conference, rising true-sophomore quarterback Anthony Brown will look to bounce back from a season-ending knee injury. If healthy, Brown will be one of the most exciting dual-threat quarterbacks to watch in the entire nation and could put up enormous numbers on a depleted BC team. If he had talent around him and they could win nine or ten games, it would not be far-fetched to put him in the Heisman conversation. Sadly, that will not be the case in the 2018 season for the Eagles, who could easily find themselves towards the bottom of the weaker ACC. It will be vital for them to capitalize on their non-conference schedule if they want to win five games as they will likely be an underdog in every single ACC game, minus the season finale against rival Syracuse.

WWE SummerSlam 2018: Matches, Previews, & Predictions

0
0

SummerSlam is WWE’s second biggest PPV of the year and it’s right around the corner. The biggest event of the summer continues it’s residency at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn and has some big moments planned. The WWE Universe is getting rabid about a couple things and it could come to a head in The Big Apple.

To say the WWE Universe’s relationship with current Universal Champion Brock Lesnar has soured would be an understatement. The Beast Incarnate has been a scarce sight on Raw and has barely defended his title on PPV’s. What used to be a sense of sacred power, a feeling that only the most worthy could face Lesnar, has quickly become a feeling of lazy entitlement. Reports of Lesnar’s wages and a sheer lack of time spent with the company has made fans turn on him. They want fighting champions, like Rollins and Ziggler have been. They want their champion to be present. And this new storyline might be just a little too little too late. It doesn’t help that he is defending it against Roman Reigns… again.

On the other end of the superstar spectrum, Ronda Rousey has been consistently proving she wants to belong and is willing to work. Since her surprisingly effective debut at Wrestlemania, she has been a tour de force. After her first title defense was ruined by Alexa Bliss at Money In The Bank, she’ll be looking for some vengeance against Bliss. It’s hard to see them not putting the belt on their biggest asset unless something really big happens…

Who would have thought we would ever get an AJ Styles versus Samoa Joe match in WWE? AND it’s at SummerSlam. AND it’s for the WWE Championship! Two of the best workers in the business will face off and it has incredible potential. Samoa Joe has been an absolute monster on the mic and no one is better in the ring than AJ Styles. This could be the match that Lesnar and Reigns wish they could put on.

It looks like the Miz and Daniel Bryan could be coming to blows at SummerSlam. The match we wanted so badly after that infamous Talking Smack segment but thought we could never get is coming to fruition. It’s hard to believe the program between these two will last only for SummerSlam. It has “long-term feud” written all over it. But where else better to start it than SummerSlam? Start that build to Wrestlemania…

There are a ton of other great matches on this PPV. All the other titles will be defended, Stroman has put his MITB briefcase on the line, and Finn Balor is hoping to gain momentum. WWE usually does some big stuff for SummerSlam so you should definitely tune in. Here are the matches you’ll see and the ones you can’t miss!

Predictions and Must-See Matches

Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Alexa Bliss

Ronda Rousey has done nothing but impress since her debut at Wrestlemania. She will be going up one of the best workers in the women’s division in Alexa Bliss. Rousey looked viscous at Money In The Bank but she was also fighting Nia Jax. To a certain extent, Jax size and power could help hide some sloppiness. Jax was allowed to get plenty of offense in and any time someone can get as much viscous offense on a powerhouse like Jax as Rousey did it looks impressive. She won’t have the power of Jax to make it look like the fight is an uphill battle.

In this one, Rousey is clearly the more “powerful” of the two. Pessimism aside, Rousey has been working her tail off since arriving and she is an amazing athlete and Bliss is the top of the women’s division. If Rousey’s and Bliss’ combined abilities continue on their current track, this will be great. And it’s likely we’re looking at Rousey’s first title reign.

AJ Styles (c) vs. Samoa Joe

Seriously, who could have thought we’d get a championship match between AJ Styles and Samoa Joe in the WWE? AND at a major PPV like SummerSlam!? The two were stars in both Ring of Honor and TNA and have settled well into the WWE. While the Universal Championship scene is in turmoil over on Raw, Styles has brought consistency and big-time match statuses to the WWE Championship.

Styles has been arguably the best in-ring performer that WWE has had since his debut and deserves his title run. Samoa Joe has been one of the most consistent workers on the mic the last few months and always looks like he can destroy someone in the ring. The two will put on a great show but it’s hard to tell who could win this one. Joe is a legitimate contender, but will WWE want to take the title off the WWE 2K19 cover athlete before it’s release on October 9th?

Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Seth Rollins

The two workhorse superstars have made the Intercontinental Title the ipso facto main title on the Raw brand. With the absence of Brock Lesnar and his Universal Title, the two have put the men’s championship scene on the red brand on their shoulders, even headlining the Extreme Rules PPV with their Iron Man Match. Reports have said that Ziggler was a little shaken when the crowd hijacked their Iron Man Match by counting down from ten every time the clock on the jumbotron hit a: 10 mark like they were at the Royal Rumble. But the two still put on a solid match. If that’s what they can do with distractions it’s likely they will burn the house down (no Seth Rollins Pun intended..) at SummerSlam. Add in the looming presence of Drew McIntyre and it could be interesting. Not to mention the slight chance that Deam Ambrose could come back… evening the odds for Rollins perhaps?

The Miz vs. Daniel Bryan

Ever since the infamous promo The Miz cut on Daniel Bryan on Smacking Talk the WWE Universe has been chomping at the bit for the two to get at each other. Once Bryan was cleared for in-ring action everyone knew what they wanted to happen but WWE wasn’t quick to pull the trigger. Now we get one of the best ever in the ring going at one of the best ever on the mic. The Miz has gone from fan outcast to fan favorite and shown that he is an integral part of the WWE World. Look for an extremely hard-fought and stiff match between two hard workers. Most likely The Miz finds a way to win so they can carry this feud on much longer…

Ronda Rousey Proves She Is Human When A Bat Invades The WWE Ring

YouTube/WWE

Ronda Rousey is one of the baddest women on the planet. The WWE Superstar and former UFC women’s bantamweight challenger has defeated nearly every challenger she has ever faced inside of the ring or cage, but there was one critter that “Rowdy” was no match for.

This week on WWE Monday Night Raw at the Greensboro Coliseum in North Carolina, Rousey was watching a match between WWE Raw women’s champion Alexa Bliss and Ember Moon.

Rousey was in Moon’s corner during the match when all hell broke loose.

As the match was going on, a bat came flying into the arena and began making circles around the ring. That’s when it became immediately clear that Rousey has a big fear of bats, and we really can’t blame here. Check out her reaction below.

Somehow, despite a bat making its rounds in the arena, Rousey managed to keep her cool.

She did, however, let out a “oh my god, there’s a bat” cry.

Rousey is set to return to the ring on Sunday, Aug. 19 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York where she will face off against Alexa Bliss for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship. It will be Rousey’s second chance at winning the belt.

Other matches at Summerslam 2018 include Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship, AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe for the WWE Championship, Dolph Ziggler vs. Seth Rollins for the WWE Intercontinental Championship, Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Jeff Hardy for the WWE United States Championship, Carmella vs. Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship, and Cedric Alexander vs. Drew Gulak for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. The Bludgeon Brothers, Harper and Rowan, will also defend their WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships against the winner of the SmackDown Tag Team Championship tournament finals between The New Day and Cesaro and Sheamus.

Jalen Ramsey Thinks Your Favorite NFL Team’s QB Is Trash (And He’s Probably Not Wrong)

Jacksonville Jaguars star Jalen Ramsey, who was recently suspended by the team for calling out a local news reporter, sat down with GQ for an incredible interview that quickly turned into a roast session. The defensive back was asked about his opinions on some of the top quarterbacks in the league, and he held no punches as he trashed nearly every signal-caller the league has to offer.

Among the quarterbacks Ramsey dissed were Josh Allen, Joe Flacco, Jimmy Garroppolo, Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Ryan, and even Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles.

The way Ramsey addressed Matt Ryan shows his disdain for quarterbacks across the league. Ramsey said:

I think Matt Ryan’s overrated. You can’t tell me you win MVP two years ago, and then last year, you a complete bust, and you still got Julio Jones? There’s no way that should ever happen. I don’t care. You know what that tells me? That tells me [Offensive Coordinator Kyle] Shanahan left, went to San Francisco, got Garoppolo, made Garoppolo this big thing. And now Garoppolo is a big name—and now [Matt Ryan] has this bad year? Alright, well, was it really you, or was it your coach? He was doing what was asked of him and it was making him look really, really good.

As for his thoughts on the other quarterbacks in the league, Will Brinson of CBS Sports summed things up:

Allen – “Trash”
Flacco – “He sucks”
Tyrod/Mariota: Underrated!
Matt Ryan: “Who?”
Jimmy G: “All schemes”
Watson/Wentz: MVPs soon
Goff: “Average to above average”
Cousins: “A winner”
Big Ben: “Decent at best”
Bortles: “Playoff Blake is good.”

Tell us how you really feel, Jalen.

Ramsey even went on to comment on the league’s new national anthem policy, saying: “I think it’s gonna be a fair share of people not going out. I think there’s going to be a fair share of people going out. I’ll probably not go out. I’ll probably just stay in and get ready for the game. That’s what I’ve always done, my whole life. I only went out there when I been in the NFL. If I don’t have to be out there, I’ll probably just mind my own business. I think the NFL’s just missing it right now.

“They’re making it about what it’s not really about. It’s not about: we don’t love America; it’s not about not respecting the flag. That’s not what it’s about at all.”

For Ramsey’s expanded thoughts on the league’s top signal-callers, be sure to check out the GQ article.

Spelman College Student Pays For School Through GoFundMe

With college starting back up, there are a number of things that new students need to be concerned with. For Nayya Martinique, who headed to Atlanta from Indianapolis to attend Spelman College, there was an unexpected surprise that nearly caused panic. Martinique was at risk of losing her college housing because she was $4,000 short after federal loans didn’t cover the full cost as expected.

That led to some quick thinking from her mother, TJai Downs, who was denied a federal Parent Plus loan because of her own unpaid student loan. Downs had to take out a loan to get through graduate school after using all available financial aid through the GI Bill.

That led to Downs turning to Plan B: GoFundMe.

Her mother wrote:

Nayya has worked soooooo hard academically–she really has! While we have completed so much paperwork and met deadlines for financial aid, we have run into an unexpected financial situation connected to my personal graduate loans from the University of Louisville. We traveled from Indy to Atlanta, packed up two vehicles and spent hundreds on making this transition happen only to be stopped at the Financial Aid office and told we cannot move in until $4000.00 is paid. Can you please, please consider giving anything you have. We have until Thursday, so if there’s something you can help Nayya/me with, I’d greatly appreciate it.

To date, the GoFundMe account has raised more than $7,700, surpassing the goal of $4,000.

One woman reached out directly to Spelman College, according to the Washington Post, and gave the school $4,000 so Martinique could be cleared to move in.

Let this be a story that shows no matter what obstacles you may be facing, if you are not afraid to ask for help, you may get exactly what you are in need of.

This Is The Man Who Is Allegedly Demi Lovato’s Drug Dealer

Brandon Johnson has been identified as the man who reportedly supplied drugs to Demi Lovato and allegedly smoked with her hours before her overdose this summer. According to TMZ, Johnson has been supplying Demi with drugs since April and he is the man Demi texted at 4:00 a.m. the morning of her overdose. The reports claim Lovato overdosed after freebasing Oxycodone that was laced with fentanyl.

Johnson is also well-known to local law enforcement.

TMZ reports that Johnson was arrested in March with a bunch of narcotics, a fully loaded semi-automatic handgun, and $10,000 in cash. After a search warrant was carried out on his home, more guns, drugs, and ammunition were discovered. He was later arrested in June on charges of DUI and cocaine possession.

— Lillian L. Carranza🇺🇸 (@LAPDCARRANZA) March 25, 2018

Johnson allegedly left Lovato once he noticed irregular breathing and she remained alone until she was discovered by her staff.

Lovato is currently in a treatment center while she tries to get her addiction under control.

Demi Lovato’s Struggles With Addiction

In a documentary titled Simply Complicated, Lovato opened up about the severity of her addiction. She opened up turning to alcohol while trying to fit in at school, which eventually turned to the then Disney Channel star trying cocaine for the first time at 17 years old. In 2010, she admitted to a hotel party with alcohol, marijuana, and Adderall which led to tension between her and the Jonas Brothers, who she was on tour with for Camp Rock 2. She also punched a backup dancer on a plane.

Lovato then entered rehab, but still was not sober.

She admitted to sneaking drugs on planes, bathrooms, and partaking every night. At one point, she mixed cocaine and Xanax and thought she was nearly going to overdose. Lovato would always have an eight ball of coke and bag of pills on her, according to the documentary.

I started to choke a little bit and my heart started racing,” she says. “I remember thinking, Oh my god, I might be overdosing right now.”

Lovato was eventually hospitalized after locking herself in her room and beginning to take pills. After being rushed to the hospital, Lovato ingested more pills that the doctors had on them. She recalled, “I didn’t feel anything. I didn’t feel guilty, I didn’t feel embarrassed.”

After performing hungover during an appearance on American Idol in 2012, Lovato eventually got sober when her management threatened to drop her. By 19, she was a year sober and hosting X Factor. On top of the substance abuse, Lovato was suffering from an eating disorder.

In June 2018, Lovato released a song titled “Sober,” which detailed a relapse from six years of sobriety. One month later, on July 24, reports surfaced that the pop star suffered from a suspected overdose and was treated with Narcan at her home. She was transported to the hospital and was “stable, alert, and breathing.”

WATCH: School Stops 6-Year-Old Boy From Attending Because He Has Dreadlocks

A six-year-old boy was barred from his school on the first day because of his hair. In a video shot by his father, C.J. Stanley, Jr, a student at A Book’s Christian Academy in Apopka, Florida, can be seen getting stopped from attending class on the first day of school because of his dreadlocks. The video went viral after social justice warrior Shaun King shared the video on social media.

C.J. can be seen dressed properly for school in a button-down shirt and pants, but he was denied because teachers said that his hair was too long.

His father can be heard in the video holding back emotion as he tries not to react to the disappointing stance and decision from his son’s school and teachers.

“I respect their rules, but it’s not right,” said Clinton Stanley Sr. “Allow kids to come as they are. You are a Christian school. In the Bible it says, come as you are. You deny a kid an education on his hair?”

“No dreads,” A Book’s Christian Academy administrator Sue Book responded. “All of our boys have short hair. We don’t allow it. We never have.”

The six-year-old is now attending a public school.

You can see the entire interaction between C.J. senior and the school administrators and teachers below.

This is absolutely infuriating.

His father rightfully struggles to maintain his emotions at the disappointment of it all. pic.twitter.com/WOpUGLqg8l

Book has since said that she is receiving “unfair backlash” from outraged parents who believe the school’s policy against dreadlocks is racist. There have even been negative Yelp reviews posted online, with one reading: “Discriminatory practices towards children of color due to their *hair.* You couldn’t PAY ME to send my child there.”

Kelly Stafford Fires Back At Jalen Ramsey: ‘Nothing GQ About Him’

Kelly Stafford doesn’t seem to be too fond of the comments made by Jacksonville Jaguars defensive back Jalen Ramsey in a recent interview with GQ Magazine. Ramsey went on a free smoke tour and was bashing a number of quarterbacks across the league. One of those quarterbacks who caught some shade from Ramsey was Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, Kelly’s husband.

“Matthew Stafford, I think he’s straight. I don’t think he the best quarterback out there. But he do what he gotta do,” Ramsey said.

The comments weren’t too damning, especially considering some of the remarks he made about other signal-callers who he referred to as “trash,” but they didn’t sit well with Mrs. Stafford regardless.

Kelly took to social media to fire back at Ramsey with some serious shade of her own.

“Can someone tell me why GQ Magazine is interviewing Jalen Ramsey? I understand ESPN, but not GQ, there is nothing ‘GQ’ about him,” Stafford wrote on a now-deleted Instagram story. “Just seems like a complete waste of time and space.”

What does Kelly Stafford think of @jalenramsey's remarks about her husband Matthew and friend, Matt Ryan?

Shots fired.

Other quarterbacks who were in Jalen Ramsey’s crosshairs were Josh Allen, Joe Flacco, Matt Ryan, and Ben Roethlisberger.

Flacco – “He sucks”
Tyrod/Mariota: Underrated!
Matt Ryan: “Who?”

Kimberly Guilfoyle Has A Pet Name For Donald Trump Jr. & It’s Ruined A Perfectly Good Candy

Rob Rich/WENN.com

Kimberly Guilfoyle and Donald Trump Jr. are dating. We’ve known this for a while with the president’s favorite son immediately linking up with an anchor from his daddy’s favorite network after splitting with his wife. Guilfoyle and Don Jr. seem like a match made in heaven, but now we know how insufferable they are as a couple.

In an earth-shattering expose from Page Six, it has been revealed that Guilfoyle and Trumpito Jr. have pet names for each other.

It’s the name Guilfoyle calls the boy blunder that has the internet rolling their eyes and outraged that she has ruined a perfectly good candy.

The nickname: Junior Mint.

Spies tell Page Six that they overheard Kimberly Guilfoyle and boyfriend Donald Trump Jr. calling each other cutesy pet names in Southampton over the weekend. We’re told the former Fox News host addressed the presidential offspring as Junior Mint (seemingly a reference to his bank account, although insiders claimed it has nothing to do with money).

So apparently, #KimberlyGuilfoyle’s nickname for boyfriend #DonaldTrumpJr is #JuniorMint. That’s a bit different than what his ex wife #VanessaTrump now calls him, which is #PayDay. #BillMaher #JimmyKimmel #StephenColbert pic.twitter.com/rDmfpR8JpW

— Alan Boccadoro (@bocc1_) August 15, 2018

Don’t worry, Guilfoyle gets a pet name, too. It’s “Pooh Bear.”

How adorable. Looks like things are moving along swimmingly.

To be fair, “Junior Mint” is a much better nickname than “Diaper Don” which he received during his college days for getting blackout drunk, passing out and wetting the bed. Allegedly.

Ithaca College Launches Program To End Student Hunger

Ithaca College has launched a new program that will start this fall to help students who may be facing food insecurity. The college announced that the “Swipe Out Hunger” program will begin which will allow students to gift their allotted guest passes on their meal plan to those who may be in need of a meal.

“I’m thrilled with the collaborative efforts between students and staff to launch the Swipe Out Hunger program. This is a huge step toward supporting our community,” Jeff Scott, the general manager of Dining Services said, via in a release.

From Ithaca’s announcement:

Under the program, IC students can donate one guest pass per semester to a “bank” created by the Office of Student Financial Services. Those passes will then be provided to students in need, who can access them using their student ID card. The program will begin with a yearlong trial phase, during which Student Financial Services will collect data, including the number of passes donated and the number used, in order to assess its effectiveness.

Any student who wants to participate in the “Swipe Out Hunger” program can sign up to make their donations from August 29 through September 19 at the Campus Center. Any student who wishes to benefit from the program is asked to contact Student Financial Services.

Students who end up receiving a donated guest pass will be known to only the Student Financial Services and the ID Office.

Saint Louis University Placing 2,300 Amazon Echo Dots In Student Living Spaces

Saint Louis University is bringing technology to its students more than ever before. Ahead of the fall semester, the university announced it will be placing Amazon Echo Dot devices, powered by Alexa for Business, in every student residence hall room or student apartment on campus.

The project, appropriately known as the SLU Alexa Project, will use have more than 2,300 Echo Dots in place by the start of classes.

It will mark the first time a college will equip every student living space with an Alexa device.

“The students we attract are highly driven to achieve success in and out of the classroom,” said David Hakanson, SLU’s vice president and CIO. “Every minute we can save our students from having to search for the information they need online is another minute that they can spend focused on what matters most: their education.”

Saint Louis University will also have its own Alexa skill which can do the following:

  • Billiken athletics’ games
  • Concerts
  • Major speakers on campus
  • Student events and organizations
  • Service and mission opportunities
  • Other aspects of student life

Last spring, a pilot program with Alexa devices was tested in residence hall rooms and it was an overwhelming success. As a result, every living space will now be equipped with the technology.

“I think it’s really innovative,” added Katlyn Martin, president of SLU’s Student Government Association. “By interacting with technology in a cool way, our students will have another resource to find things to do on campus, to meet other people and to take advantage of the holistic Jesuit education that Saint Louis University offers.”

For anyone who has privacy concerns, have no fear. Because the devices are through Alexa for Business, there will be no devices tied to specific accounts and no personal information will be collected.

COED’s Beer of the Week: Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin

Ballast Point

Tired of drinking lukewarm Keystone Light out of a 6-month-old keg? Trying to move past Bud Light Limes and Coronas? Crushed enough 30-racks to last a lifetime? The point is, you’re likely at that stage in your life (or close to it) where you want to drink better beer.

Don’t feel bad, as it happens to all of us at one point or another. While shitty beer never really goes away — trust me, stale kegs and 30’s are still very much a thing in post-grad life — decent beer becomes further appreciated and desired the older you get. While I get f*cked up way less than I did in college, I actually kind of drink more now because I have a delicious new beer with my dinner every night. And buddy, let me let you in on a little secret … Shock Top and Magic Hat #9 don’t count.

So, with all that in mind, we decided to set the very obtainable (and enjoyable) goal of trying, and hopefully enjoying, a new beer every week.

From popular IPA’s to obscure chocolate stouts, this is COED’s Beer of the Week: Ballast Point’s Grapefruit Sculpin.

“Award-winning IPA, with a citrus twist. Our Grapefruit Sculpin is the latest take on our signature IPA. Some may say there are few ways to improve Sculpin’s unique flavor, but the tart freshness of grapefruit perfectly complements our IPA’s citrusy hop character. Grapefruit’s a winter fruit, but this easy-drinking ale tastes like summer.” — via Ballast Point

Michigan State Football 2018-19: Predictions & Preview

A young and inexperienced roster in 2016 led coach Mark Dantonio to one of his worst seasons with the Spartans in his tenure, but the turnaround his team showed during 2017 was incredible. Not one expert would have pegged the Spartans for a nine-win season coming off an atrocious 3-9 record. But that is exactly what happened, and now Michigan State looks poised to be a big-time contender this year. The loaded Big 10 may stand in their way of even reaching a New Years Six bowl, but they could also defy the odds, yet again, and make a serious run at a national title. That’s what happens when you recruit well and everyone gains a little more experience. There is a case to be made that the Big 10 boasts four legitimate national title contenders.

2018-2019 Summary

Instagram Photo

After going 10-3 with one of the youngest rosters in the nation, Mark Dantonio’s group will look for similar if not better results in their 2018 campaign. The ground and pound attack has always been Dantonio’s way, and even with the lack of production from a season ago, he will still likely commit to the running game with halfback LJ Scott. Even if the run game remains inefficient, the passing attack led by quarterback Brian Lewerke and one of the best receiving corps in the nation’s should be able to bail the Spartans out of their consistent third and long situations. With the defense bringing just about every starter back, this unit will be very tough to produce points against, just as they were a year ago, yet more experienced. Outside of the big three in Penn State, Michigan, and Ohio State, the Spartans should be able to be on cruise control to another nine-win season. If Sparty can pull off one, or maybe even two upsets in those three games, the playoffs, and a national title run could be right there.

Michelle Obama has always been a champion for education. Now, she is taking her heart-warming and positive messages to first-generation college students who are preparing to step onto campus for the first time during the fall semester.

The former First Lady delivered a special message for the GMA First-Gen series and encouraged students to stay strong during their journeys.

“I am so proud of you because as a first-generation college graduate myself, I know it isn’t easy to get to this point,” Obama said. “I want you to know that Barack and I are proud of all of you. And we can’t wait to see everything you go on to achieve.”

Obama went on to encourage students to never doubt whether they deserve to be on campus, to not be afraid to try new things, to always ask for help, and to not forget that there are people who believe in and support you.

“[There are] people who are cheering you on every step of the way. I want you to know that Barack and I are proud of all of you, and we can’t wait to see everything you go on to achieve,” she said.

Enjoy the college experience, everyone, and be sure to keep an open mind.

“Before long I started to hit my stride,” Obama said. “I discovered subjects I was passionate about. I made friends I love, and I went on to have the career that I dreamed of in public service.”

College Students, Fraternities Protected By New Anti-Hazing Law

With college students set to return to campus for the start of the fall semester, there will be plenty of pledges across the country looking to get involved in greek life and join a fraternity on campus. That means the always avoidable hazing stories will still find a way to surface, but for students in New York there is an added layer of protection after a new law was passed.

This week, New York governor Andrew Cuomo signed an anti-hazing law that “prohibits certain physical contact or requiring physical activity during an organization’s initiating ceremony to prevent the deaths or serious injuries of students during fraternity pledging.”

From WBFO 88.7:

The new law was prompted by the death of a New York City college student in 2013. He died as a result of head injury during a fraternity hazing ritual. The Burch’s established a foundation to educate young adults on the dangers of hazing. They’re preparing a real-life video of the painful hazing that occurred to their son as a learning tool.

“I just don’t think these young kids are looking at this and taking all that serious,” said Kimberly Burch, whose son died of acute alcohol poisoning during a hazing incident at West Virginia University.

“At the end of the day, in a lot of these cases, especially when a child dies unfortunately – it’s murder,” said TJ Burch.

According to Cuomo, New York will have “zero tolerance” for hazing abuse.

Weed Strain of the Week: Guava Kush

As the years go by and the youth become the adults, weed has assimilated itself more and more into everyday life, and therefore, everyday business. Medical marijuana, commercial marijuana, marijuana paraphernalia, literal marijuana commercials, edible marijuana, marijuana oil, marijuana magazines, and now, COED marijuana articles. Everybody else in the United States seems to be getting in on the reefer madness, so we’ve decided to do the same by introducing a new franchise: Weed Strain of the Week.

When I think of weed strains, the first thing that comes to mind is the 2008 stoner comedy classic Pineapple Express. In one of the earliest scenes of the movie, Saul explains to Dale how fire his newest strain of marijuana — Pineapple Express — is by only referring to previous strains that Dale had smoked.

The strain “Super Red Espresso Snowflake” always stood out because it’s the perfect skewering of drug dealers who tried tell you what kind of strain you were buying: they were really just making shit up. However, now that legal marijuana and dispensaries exist, actual marijuana strains are more prevalent than ever, so we figured it’s time we start learning them all, one by one.

This week’s Weed Strain of the Week? Guava Kush.
