Joe Jackson, the father of Michael Jackson and an original manager of The Jackson 5, has passed away at the age of 89. Jackson passed away at 3:30 AM Wednesday in Los Angeles, California, due to cancer.

via TMZ:

We broke the story … Joe was hospitalized in June with terminal cancer. His family had been flocking to his bedside since. His wife, Katherine, had been at his bedside as were some of Joe’s children and grandchildren.

Joe had been battling health problems for some time now. He was hospitalized back in 2016 after coming down with a high fever. But, he bounced back not long after and was seen partying in Vegas. His health was also fragile after a stroke and 3 heart attacks back in 2015. Doctors implanted a pacemaker.

A rep for Michael’s estate tells us, “We are deeply saddened by Mr. Jackson’s passing and extend our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Katherine Jackson and the family. Joe was a strong man who acknowledged his own imperfections and heroically delivered his sons and daughters from the steel mills of Gary, Indiana to worldwide pop superstardom.”

Hennessy Carolina Almanzar, yes, that is her real name, has been a star on social media for years. Prior to appearing on the reality television series Love & Hip Hop: New York, Hennessy was a standout on Instagram and Vine. Now, her popularity is reaching new levels. And, of course, it does help that she is the younger sister of rap star Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar.

Hennessy attended Renaissance High School for Musical Theater & Technology, and eventually studied design at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Interestingly enough, we all have Hennessy to thank for Cardi B’s moniker.

“My sister’s name is Hennessy, so everybody used to be like ‘Bacardi’ to me,” Cardi B said in an interview discussing how she adopted her stage name. “Then I shortened it to Cardi B. The ‘B’ stands for whatever, depending on the day…beautiful or bully. No one calls me Belcalis except for my family, my mother and my daddy.”

Hennessy briefly appeared on a season of The Challenge: Champs vs. Stars, but she lasted just three episodes before calling it quits. She is currently working on a fashion career instead of taking on more television opportunities.

Andrea Martinez Photos: Full Story of Immigration Lawyer

Andrea Martinez, an immigration lawyer, claims that an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer broke her foot early Tuesday morning in Kansas City, Missouri, as she was trying to unite a pregnant woman with her child.

According to a report from The Daily Beast, Andrea Martinez was trying to reunite Kenia Bautista-Mayorga, 23, who is six months pregnant, with her three-year-old son before she was deported to Honduras. The pair had been separated by ICE for weeks as Bautista-Mayorga sat in jail.

The officer involved in the incident was identified as Kansas City ICE ERO deportation officer Everett Chase.

via The Daily Beast:

A few dozen activists accompanied Martinez and her law partner, Megan Galicia, to protest the deportations. Initially, Martinez said she thought the boy would be reunited with his mother in the parking lot of the ICE office. Instead, ICE officials decided to reunite them inside the building, away from protesters and cameras, according to Martinez.

Martinez said that is when she and Galicia tried to follow their 3-year-old client into the room in the building where he would be reunited with his mother. An ICE officer blocked them from going inside, she said.

“He slammed the door on us,” Martinez said. “The ICE officer pushed us out and didn’t let us follow our three-year-old client into the lobby, and then pushed me to the ground. I was wearing high heels, so that’s when my foot was fractured and my leg got all bloody. And then my pants ripped. But then he called me back in and detained me for another forty minutes or an hour.”

An ICE released an official statement regarding the incident:

“Early in the morning of June 26 an incident occurred at the Kansas City ICE office while ICE ERO officers were attempting to reunite a mother with a family member. We take any allegations against ICE personnel very seriously and are looking into the matter. Until a review of the documentary evidence is completed, ICE can issue no further public comment on the matter.”

On Tuesday, June 26, Bautista-Mayorga was taken by ICE to be placed on a plane and sent back to Honduras. Martinez said ICE refused to provide flight information so family members there don’t know when or where to meet them.

Taleedah Tamer is a Saudi Arabian model who appeared on the cover of the July/August issue of Harper’s Bazaar Arabia. It is her first international magazine cover.

Prior to her work for Harper’s Bazaar, Tamer previously modeled for Korloff perfumes and the retailer Rubaiyat.

Saudi Arabia held its first ever fashion week in April of 2018. World famous designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier and Roberto Cavalli showed collections during their first fashion week.

However, just because Tamer is a young, rising model does not mean she is abandoning her education as she was recently looking at schools in Milan, Italy, to major in Economics & Management of Art, Culture, and Design.

via Harper’s Bazaar:

The Saudi/Italian model Taleedah Tamer is on the brink of stardom, set to front her first international campaign this month and booked to walk the couture shows next season. Growing up in Jeddah, with her younger brother and sister, Najedah and Amin, she says that, “Being Saudi is who I am, it is my identity. I love the culture, it’s my heritage.”

Her father, Ayman Tamer, is chairman of Tamer Group, a leading healthcare and beauty company, and her mother, Cristina Tamer, is a former model, who was scouted in dance class at the age of 18, and went on to work for Giorgio Armani, Gianfranco Ferré and La Perla.

Having landed her first gig modeling for Korloff, then Rubaiyat, before Bazaar, studies are still paramount to Taleedah, who has just returned from Milan looking at schools to major in Economics & Management of Art, Culture and Design. Her ultimate vision is to incorporate CSR into her modeling career.

Harper’s Bazaar says Taleedah Tamer is Saudi Arabia’s “first supermodel.” She will appear at this year’s Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week, which will be held from Tuesday, September 25, to Wednesday, October 3, in Paris, France.

2018 has been a progressive year for Saudi Arabia as they also lifted their ban on female drivers.

Slack Is Down Memes: Must-See Memes & Twitter Reactions

This Wednesday morning, the Slack messaging app, which many people use to communicate with their co-workers, was down for over four hours. Obviously, some companies use messaging apps to cut down on noise pollution in the office, so people in this position could just talk to each other, but there are others who use the app to work remotely. Cue an untold number of people refreshing their laptops, trying to emails their supervisors and praying to their various deities that they weren’t secretly laid off without knowing it. Of course, people still had access to the internet; some people tried to keep their cool and finish whatever work they could, while others took to Twitter and Instagram to voice their stress with the all-encompassing power of memes.

In fact, Slack used its official Twitter account to keep people updated!

We're investigating connectivity issues for all workspaces, thanks for your patience, we'll have updates shortly. https://t.co/uQIDJzyLSV

James Field Jr. Hate Crime Charge: Full Story & Must-See Details

Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail

James A. Fields Jr., 21, the man suspected of killing a woman protesting a white supremacist rally in August of 2017 has been formally charged with a federal hate crime. The Western District of Virginia ruled that Fields deliberately drove his car into a sea of people, injuring 19 and killing one Heather Heyer, 32. Fields will also face first-degree murder charges.

The counterprotests which Heyer was supporting were organized to disavow the rally of white supremacists defending the removal of a statue of Confederate war general Robert E. Lee.

The New York Times reported that Attorney General Jeff Sessions showed sympathy for the victim, “Last summer’s violence in Charlottesville cut short a promising young life and shocked the nation…Today’s indictment should send a clear message to every would-be criminal in America that we aggressively prosecute violent crimes of hate that threaten the core principles of our nation.”

According to sources, Fields was an introverted man who was living with his mother up until several months ago and struggled to make friends in school. His mother, Samantha Bloom, told the Associated Press that she was aware that her son was attending a rally that, “had something to do with Trump…Trump’s not a supremacist”

Derek Weimer, 45, one of Fields’ teachers at Randall K Cooper High School, told the Cincinnati Enquirer that Fields was “a very bright kid but very misguided and disillusioned.” Weimer continued to say that he had written a paper for a different class that was “very much along the party lines of the neo-Nazi movement.”

Footage of the incident can be seen below. Documentary filmmakers Deia Schlosberg and Conrad Shaw who were near the scene of the crime said the car hit several people before it crashed into another car, causing the chain reaction that killed Ms. Heyer.

World Cup 2018: How Do Teams Advance To The Round Of 16?

The World Cup in one of the greatest sporting events in the world but it can be confusing at times for uninformed fans to figure out exactly what is going on in the group stage and beyond. Here is everything you might need to know on how the World Cup works.

FIFA, the organizing force behind world soccer, begins the World Cup process by separating all teams into six different regional tournaments. Each region is given a certain amount of qualifying spots based on how many total teams are in the region. 31 teams are chosen through this qualification to be a part of the World Cup with the 32nd team automatically qualifying as the host nation (Russia in 2018).

Instagram Photo

World Cup Group Stage

The 32 teams which qualify for the World Cup are seeded and placed into four “pots” based on how they played in the qualification matches. One team from each of these pots is then drawn to make up a group, from which the “Group Stage” of the World Cup is named. Once the eight groups are formed, play begins. Each team plays one match against all other teams in their own group. The top two teams from each group then move on to the knockout stage. Each group determines the top two teams through a point system. Points are awarded as such:

  • Three points are awarded for a win
  • One point is awarded for a draw (tie)
  • No points are awarded for a loss

However, as teams only play three games during the Group Stage, a tie at the top of the group are fairly commonplace. In the event of a tie in group standings, there is a procedure of tiebreakers that FIFA follows to settle this problem. The tiebreakers are used in the following order:

  1. Goal Differential (Goals Scored – Goals Allowed)
  2. Total Goals Scored
  3. Head-To-Head Record of Tied Teams (followed by goal differential and total goals scored in head-to-head games)
  4. “Fair Play” Rule (i.e. all penalties are given a negative point value given the severity and then taken off the team’s total)
  5. Random Drawing

World Cup Knockout Stage

Once the Group Stage is finished and the winning teams have been decided, the Knockout Stage begins. The top two teams of each group are placed in a 16-team, single elimination bracket. Teams are seeded in the tournament based on which group they were originally placed in and whether they placed first or second within their respective group.

While there is no losing bracket during this tournament, the two teams that lose in the semi-finals play a game to determine third place. The Knockout Stage will take place on the following dates:

  • Round of 16: June 30 – July 3
  • Quarterfinals: July 6 – July 7
  • Semifinals: July 10 – July 11
  • Third-place: July 14
  • Final: July 15

Many people do not know but Big Diesel has been DJing since he was 14-years old. He used to DJ during his LSU days and even during his time in the NBA. O’Neal told Billboard, “Over the years my musical influences may have changed, but one thing has always stayed consistent- it’s all about fun and making people dance. That is what Summer of Shaq is all about.”

During Miami Music Week back in March, Shaq launched his own performance called Shaq’s Fun House. The 6-hour extravaganza included carnival games, circus performers, and a powerful lineup of A-Trak, Steve Aoki, Diplo, and DJ Diesel himself. That lineup and more has turned that event into a summer tour that will see them stop in 15 different locations around the world including Bejing, Miami, Las Vegas, Boston, and more!

Shaq has talked about the goal of this event to be as fun as possible and to have people enjoy the music. He wants to create a never before seen atmosphere. He also wants to show people he is not just a celebrity DJ but that he is a good DJ and that he can create an environment like he did at Shaq’s Fun House.

Restaurant Manager Fired For Calling Police on Black Sorority

A manager at an Ohio Bahama Breeze has been fired for racial profiling. On June 19, the manager called police saying that about 40 guests — members of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority — were “worked up about the bill” and did not want to pay.

According to reports, the manager called the police to make sure the group paid their bill. The manager also claimed some members of the crowd party profanity and was disrespectful to staff.

Chante Spencer, one of the patrons who were in attendance, believes the group were racially profiled and falsely accused of not wanting to pay due to their race. Spencer also says that four people in attendance were asked to produce a receipt before they could leave the restaurant.

Darden Concepts, the company that owns Bahama Breeze, released the following statement in regards to the incident:

“We clearly fell short of delivering great service, and we’ve invited the guests back in order to provide an exceptional Bahama Breeze experience.”

According to USA Today, this is not the first time that Bahama Breeze has been accused of racial harassment.

Back in 2009, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced a settlement involving 37 black workers, who claimed, their managers at Bahama Breeze repeatedly used racial slurs and denied them breaks.

As a result of the lawsuit, the company was forced to pay more than a million dollars and was ordered to provide anti-discrimination and diversity training to staff.

Bahama Breeze is a Caribbean-themed chain restaurant that is owned by the Darden company, who also owns Olive Garden and Longhorn Steakhouse restaurants.

We clearly fell short of delivering great service to our guests. The manager involved no longer works for us because they mistreated a guest, which is inconsistent with our values. We spoke with members of the party to personally apologize & invite them back.

Police have identified 22-year-old Robert Allen as a second person of interest in the murder of 20-year-old rapper XXXTentacion.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office is looking to speak with Allen after surveillance footage showed Allen standing outside RIVA Motorsports the day of the shooting.

XXXTentacion — born Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy — was shot and killed in Deerfield Beach, Florida, on Monday, June 18. He was shot in the neck and pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police previously arrested 22-year-old Dedrick D. Williams in connection to the shooting.

Authorities believe that Williams, 22, was at the wheel of a black Dodge Journey SUV that blocked the Onfroy’s BMW outside the motorcycle dealership while two masked robbed the controversial rapper.

Is It Wrong To Wear Socks To Bed?

$

Shutterstock

There are people out in the world who believe it’s a crime to wear socks to bed, while there are others who have cold feet at night and they would like to wear a simple pair of socks to bed. Socks under the sheets are wrong but what about those who are cold at night. Are they put into this group of disgusting people? Which leads me to my questions, is it wrong to wear socks to bed?

Instagram Photo

For the people who will go out and protest that you should never wear socks to bed, here are their reasoning’s. Warning, there may be some disgusting topics moving forward involving feet. But, if you haven’t figured out that we are talking about feet, I suggest you read an article about the human body.

On the gross side, wearing socks to bed can leave you with a morning bath of foot sweat. Your toenails scratch against the fabric. You can feel your dead skin catch on the sock. And the smell is like waking up in a men’s locker room. No one wants any of those. If you are one who does want all of that, you may have a foot fetish.

There are also some severe dangers to wearing socks to bed. You could wake up groggy and slip on the floor. Or build up enough static electricity and shock yourself when you are trying to open your bedroom door. That doesn’t sound fun at all.

Instagram Photo

Now, for those who do wear socks as they sleep you may have something to hide. Such as maybe long toenails you keep forgetting to trim, a tattoo that went wrong, or you don’t like how your feet look and feel on your bed. With your odd excuses, at that point, it would be okay to wear socks to bed.

Wearing socks to bed is fine, you monsters https://t.co/mhSpJ1Qpug pic.twitter.com/s7KwVtiPh8

— Mashable (@mashable) February 20, 2017

Okay, now for the real answer to the question, is it wrong to wear socks to bed? No, it is not wrong to wear socks to bed. Researchers have found that wearing socks to bed can help with sleep patterns. By warming up your feet at night and creating a good circulation from your feet to your head can lead to deeper sleep. It can also help with preventing hot flashes, improve cracked heels, increase orgasms, and decrease the chance of Raynaud’s attack which is a disease that can make your feet and toes lose circulation. Which means, if you want to wear socks to bed, go ahead. Just be prepared your roommate may judge you.

It’s almost summer time, a time where people are going to the beach, going out to clubs, spending time with friends, and the one thing we all hate showing off those skinny, toned bodies. You might be one of those who has been working on getting that body since the end of winter break. You could also be one of those who has only been working on that summer bod for two weeks. But, this isn’t an article on how to get that summer body. I am here to inform you that you don’t need that summer body. You are beautiful the way you are, even if you don’t believe it. And I’m here to tell you why you should love the body you have now.

For all you men and women who continuously look in the mirror and squeeze every inch of your body complaining about how you don’t have your dream body. You all need to shut up! Yes, I did tell you to shut up. You need to stop putting negative thoughts in your mind and bringing down your confidence level. The mirror is your worst enemy, not you but the mirror. If people refused to look in the mirror, we would all be so much happier.

We all need to learn that being happy creates confidence, confidence builds motivation, and overall we don’t care how we look or what other people think of us. So, forget about the haters, throw away that evil mirror, and go out and be proud of how beautiful and handsome you are. All of those emotions of accepting yourself for who you are will always stay with you. No amount of hate and disgust around you will take your happiness and confidence away.

Now, for those who are happy with who they are but do want to be healthy here is our advice to you. Create a plan, set goals, and don’t expect so much in so little time. Remember, you are getting better every day, and you never started from a wrong place. It’s getting better than you already were.

It’s time to forget about the bullies of the world and let our happiness take over. Inspire other people to be happy with who they are, inside and out. You don’t need a summer body, because we already have a body that is fit for every season. You are perfect!

Un Nuevo Dia

James Tahhan, a celebrity chef for Telemundo, has faced backlash after he made a racist gesture about Asians during South Korea’s victory over Germany at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

While wearing a Mexico jersey, the celebrity Venezuelan chef was seen on camera making the racist gesture by pulling his eyes to the side.

Tahhan, better known as Chef James, is a 29-year-old Venezuelan chef, television personality, restaurateur, author and. He is best recognized for being the official chef of Telemundo, and being a co-presenter of its morning show Un Nuevo Dia.

via USA Today:

Mexico’s soccer federation was fined for “discriminatory and offensive” anti-gay chants its fans made toward Germany’s goalkeeper in their World Cup opener. After players urged fans not to repeat the chant, there weren’t any other incidents in Mexico’s two remaining group stage matches.

Earlier in the World Cup, soccer legend Diego Maradona of Argentina made the same racist gesture toward a group of Asian fans at the Argentina vs. Iceland game. That, along with other behavioral issues, led to calls for him to leave the World Cup completely.

Dear @Telemundo @TelemundoSports & @TLMDPR , whoever this guy is on the left needs to get fired ASAP for being a racist on air. If someone were to say or make racist gestures about Latinx folks we'd ALL be up in arms & this is no different #SayNoToRacism #TelemundoMundial pic.twitter.com/SvzSednPAd

The incident involving Tahhan was not the first racial incident at the 2018 World Cup with Mexico as Mexican fans could be heard shouting homophobic slurs during El Tri’s 1-0 victory over Germany.

Tahhan released an apology on Twitter saying he had shown a “lack of sensitivity.”

“During the celebration for the classification of Mexico, I made a mistake and made an inappropriate and insensitive gesture towards the Asian community. It was a lack of sensitivity on my part. I admit that I did something wrong and wanted to apologize to anyone who was offended by it,” Tahhan said on Twitter.

Despite losing to Sweden 3-0 in their final group stage game, Mexico advanced to the knockout stage of the World Cup for the seventh consecutive time.
