WWE legend Vader, born Leon White, passed away at age 63. His son confirmed the news on Wednesday, June 20, saying that his father passed away on Monday following a two-year battle with congestive heart failure. Vader was recovering from open-heart surgery that took place back in March and ultimately succumbed to complications.

“Around a month ago my father was diagnosed with a severe case of Pneumonia,” his son announced on social media. “He fought extremely hard and clinically was making progress. Unfortunately, on Monday night his heart had enough and it was his time.”

Before beginning his legendary wrestling career, Vader was a two-time All-American offensive lineman at the University of Colorado. He appeared in Super Bowl XIV after being drafted by the Rams in the third-round of the 1978 draft.

All of the information on Vader’s passing can be seen below.

Vader Cause of Death: Heart Failure/Pneumonia

Back in 2016, Vader was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. After his diagnosis, Leon White was told that he only had two years to live.

“I was in the medical center and I was seeing my doctor, who is actually an MD, and heart specialists came into my room,” Vader said after his diagnosis in an interview with Hannibal TV. “They said ‘We’ve been looking at your heart’ and I said ‘Who are you?’ I didn’t recognize the guy. He said ‘You have two years to live. We’ve been looking at your heart, and that’s the deal.’

On Monday, June 18, after a month-long battle with pneumonia, Vader passed away at age 63. His son confirmed the news on social media.

About Leon White

Leon White was born May 14, 1955, in Lynwood, California. After a successful college football career at the University of Colorado which included two first-team All-American nods, Vader began his career in professional wrestling where he became known as one of the best big men to ever step foot in the ring. Vader was billed as 6-foot-4, 456-pounds.

Harold Miller, 65, has been identified as the murderer in the murder-suicide that happened at a Walmart in Tallassee, Alabama, on Tuesday, June 19.

According to police, Tresesa Miller,  Harold’s 58-year-old wife, and her 75-year-old mother, Barbara Buttles, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene. After shooting Tresea Miller and Buttles, Harold Miller turned the gun on himself.

Authorities say that officers were dispatched to Walmart at 2190 Gilmer Avenue to investigate a shooting around 10:15 a.m. local time on Tuesday, June 19. Miller crashed his car into theirs before shooting them. Responding officers found two crashed vehicles in the parking lot near the garden center and found the two women inside one of the crashed vehicles.

Court records show that a judge granted a protective order for Tresea Miller, her 23-year-old son and Buttles against Harold Miller just this week.

via AL.com:

Tallapoosa county court records showTresea filed a protection from abuse order against her husband, Harold, on Monday. The order says the couple has been married for 43 years, but says they have a pending divorce. She also claimed in the order that Harold threatened to kill their son, verbally abused her and threatened to set her house on fire.

The Alabama State Bureau of Investigation is assisting local authorities, Capt. Joe Herman said in an email to AL.com. The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also are investigating, said spokesman Michael Knight. Knight said ATF’s Crime Gun Intelligence team is tracing the firearm from today’s killings and suicide to determine whether it has been used in other crimes. He said agents will trace the gun to previous owners to see if any criminal charges could be levied.

In a press release, Tallassee Police Chief Matthew Higgins said the “preliminary investigation has determined that there was a previous history of domestic incidents between the family members and at this time the case is being ruled a Murder/Suicide.”

At this time, city, county, state, and federal authorities are involved with the investigation.

Top 10 Possible Blockbuster Trades Prior To 2018 NBA Draft

$

The NBA feels like a 12-month season these days due to how much intrigue and interest goes into the offseason, with stars being moved to new teams on a fairly regular basis due to free agency and blockbuster trades. Now that the NBA Finals are over, trade rumors have been swirling around some of the biggest stars in the league. With the NBA Draft scheduled for June 21st, now is the perfect time to look at potential trades that could change the very identity of some NBA teams ahead of the 2018 draft.

Spurs / Lakers

Spurs Receive: Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, Luol Deng, the 25th Pick and a 2019 Second Round Pick
Lakers Receive: Kawhi Leonard
Instagram Photo

With reports that Kawhi Leonard has asked to be traded from the San Antonio Spurs, NBA circles are buzzing over the possible trades that could surface for the 26-year old star. Leonard is a top-five NBA player when healthy, though he only played nine games last season due to an injured quadricep. According to sources, Leonard’s top trade destination would be to the Los Angeles Lakers and this trade would be one of the best packages the Lakers could put together for him.

With this move, the Lakers are basically throwing their rebuilding plans in the garbage in preference of buying a playoff team through cap room and assets. Both Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma are young players who could thrive in San Antonio under the coaching of Greg Popovich, with Luol Deng’s contract thrown in just to match salary. The Spurs would also be adding a second first-round pick for the upcoming draft, setting the Spurs up for the future with an influx of young players.

For the Lakers, this move signifies an end to the rebuilding era for the team. Leonard is a star in this league and can be used as selling point to attract big name free agents, such as LeBron James and Paul George. While this may not be the best move for the future Lakers, it is certainly the best way to enter win-now mode if they can sign an additional star in free-agency.

Spurs / Clippers

Spurs Receive: Tobias Harris, the 12th Pick, the 13th Pick and a future unprotected First-Round Pick
Clippers Receive: Kawhi Leonard
Instagram Photo

If a deal with the Lakers cannot be reached, perhaps LA’s other team would be an equally suitable destination for Leonard. This deal doesn’t give the Spurs the young assets like the Lakers trade would, but it certainly gives them a lot of draft picks and a player in Tobias Harris that could enter as an immediate starter for the team. This could be the best of both worlds for the Spurs organization; Popovich avoids a full rebuild in his final years coaching (the Spurs were the eight-seed last year with LaMarcus Aldridge as the only star player, adding Harris would only make the team better) while also setting the team up for the future with three first-round picks.

The Clippers have publically said they are not looking to rebuild after trading both Blake Griffin and Chris Paul but, given the talent on their roster, they may not have too much of a choice unless they can leverage some of their assets for a star player. Kawhi Leonard wouldn’t make this team a contender but he could perhaps be used to lure free agents. The Clippers may be wise to trade their assets for a star now, as rumors around the Lakers potential league-shaking moves this offseason threaten to steal the attention in LA.

Spurs / Sixers

Spurs Receive: Robert Covington, Markelle Fultz, the 10th Pick, the 39th Pick and the 50th Pick
Sixers Receive: Kawhi Leonard
Instagram Photo

There is a good chance the Spurs will not be willing to trade Kawhi within their own conference, which severely limits their options. One match that seems perfect, though, is the Philadelphia 76ers. Philadelphia has a ton of assets and is looking for another star player to add this offseason, already being connected to LeBron James and Paul George. With this trade, the Sixers get their third-star player and fix their asset overload, as they simply do not have room to sign their six potential draft picks and free agents.

The Spurs would receive a ton of picks which they can either keep or flip into an even higher pick perhaps, as well as a potential starter in Robert Coving and Markelle Fultz who is just one year removed of being the top pick in the draft. Fultz is one of the weirdest stories of the NBA this season, as the number one pick seemingly forgot how to shoot between the draft and the start of the season. However, the Spurs have the best shooting coach in the league in Chip Engelland. If anyone can fix Fultz’s shot, it is him.

Spurs / Celtics

Spurs Receive: Kyrie Irving and a 2019 First-Round Pick
Celtics Receive: Kawhi Leonard
Instagram Photo

This trade might seem crazy, as the Celtics just traded for Kyrie Irving last year and were one of the best team’s in the league and just one game away from making the finals with Irving on the roster (although out with injury for the playoffs). However, it has been reported that the Celtics are actively interested in trading for Kawhi if the Spurs begin shopping him and this trade might make the most sense. The Spurs add an elite NBA player to play along LaMarcus Aldridge in order to keep contending now, as well as adding one of the many first-round picks Boston has next year.

Meanwhile, Boston adds yet another versatile forward that can play defense against many different positions. Boston was already the best defensive team in the league during the 2017-2018 season. The lineup would have some questions, with Hayward possibly at the shooting guard spot and Kawhi at power forward, but you can’t pass up on a player of Leonard’s caliber. Adding Kawhi, a two-time Defensive Player of the Year winner would just be insanity. Still, when a team is building to beat the Warriors that may just be what is required to even stand a chance.

Trail Blazers/ Cavaliers

Trail Blazers Receive: Kevin Love and the 8th Pick
Cavaliers Receive: CJ McCollum
Instagram Photo

Kawhi Leonard isn’t the only star that could possibly be traded ahead of the draft. The Cavaliers are coming off of a season in which they struggled on both sides of the ball all season and yet were still somehow able to make the NBA Finals before getting swept by the Golden State Warriors. The common belief is that LeBron James is already out of Cleveland but perhaps this move can change that. Flipping Kevin Love and the Brooklyn pick they received from the Celtics could provide an incentive for LeBron to resign there, or at least opt-in for one more season to see what they can do. If you’re Cleveland, isn’t keeping LeBron all that matters?

The Portland Trail Blazers just need to do something different, on the other hand. The backcourt of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum has been effective in the regular season, leading them to the three-seed in the Western Conference last year. However, after getting swept in the first-round by the sixth-seeded New Orleans Pelicans a change is needed. Flipping McCollum allows Portland to keep their star (Lillard) while adding the immediate starter Love and a potential future star at the 8th pick.

Wizards / Pelicans

Wizards Receive: DeMarcus Cousins (sign-and-trade)
Pelicans Receive: Otto Porter, Marcin Gortat and the 15th Pick
Instagram Photo

Sign-and-trade deals are never easy, especially when the player being traded is coming off of a serious injury. Still, this trade makes a lot of sense for both teams. The Wizards have been proven unable to win in the playoffs with their current roster and have absolutely no cap room to make a push for a big-named free agent. Cousins also has a strong connection with John Wall, who both played at the University of Kentucky. Wall has also been loud and clear on his stance that the team needs to add another star, preferably a center.

The Pelicans have an elite talent in Anthony Davis but desperately need to put more talent around him. Additionally, New Orleans’ offense seems to flow better without the two bigs in Davis and Cousins on the floor at the same time. The one hangup for the Pelicans in this deal could be that they aren’t getting the full value for Cousins, who is one of the best centers in the league when fully healthy. However, with the uncertainty of the injury that currently surrounds Cousins, this is the best deal they can realistically do.

Memphis / Clippers

Memphis Receives: Tobias Harris, Patrick Beverly, the 12th Pick and the 13th Pick
Clippers Receive: Chandler Parsons and the 4th Pick
Instagram Photo

There are rumors that Memphis might be looking to trade down from the fourth spot in the draft and, if that is true, this could be one of the best offers they receive. The Grizzlies are not looking to rebuild with veterans Mike Conley and Marc Gasol already signed on for next year. Their problem is a lack of talent around their main guys rather than the lack of a franchise player. This trade allows Memphis to grab two players that can make an immediate impact in Tobias Harris and Patrick Beverly without leveraging their future as they dump Chandler Parson’s terrible contract and turn the fourth pick into the 12th and the 13th to add some youth to a veteran roster.

This trade also gives the Clippers a chance at a player that could become the new face of the franchise, something they desperately lack currently. The Clippers might not want to do this if both DeAndre Ayton and Luka Doncic are off the board by the fourth pick, as they are projected to be the best players in this draft by a wide margin. Still, if Doncic drops on draft night, as some believe he could, the Clippers shouldn’t even hesitate to make this trade despite such a large cost.

Sixers / Kings

Sixers Receive: The 2nd Pick
Kings Receive: The 10th Pick, the 26th Pick, the 38th Pick, the 56th Pick, 2019 First-Round Pick
Instagram Photo

According to David Griffin, one of the front-runners for Philadelphia’s open GM position, them 76ers desperately want to trade into the top five. Considering that there are rumors the Sacramento Kings are considering trading down, it could be a match made in heaven. Sacramento is reportedly not too high on the players projected to go high in the lottery and would reportedly be more comfortable picking in the seven to nine range, where players such as Michael Porter Jr could still be available. Well, by giving up the second pick in the draft they would be able to still have a chance at a player they like at the 10th spot, as well as four other chances to find a draft gem this year alone. Plus throw in a future first-round pick just for good measure. This trade could bolster the Kings roster for years to come with an ample addition of young talent.

Philadelphia fans might have major reservations against trading up in the draft, a year removed from a trade made to get the top pick in the draft to select Markelle Fultz. Still, if they think Luka Doncic can be a transcendent player in this league this move should be a no-brainer.

Cavaliers / Clippers

Cavaliers Receive: DeAndre Jordan
Clippers Receive: JR Smith, Jordan Clarkson, Cedi Osman and a 2019 Second-Round Pick
Instagram Photo

The Clippers may not want to enter a full rebuild but that doesn’t mean they should keep putting the same team on the court. DeAndre Jordan’s trade value may never be any higher than it currently is so if they are going to sell they might as well sell high. This trade requires that Jordan opts into his player option, which should be no problem as he is guaranteed over $24 million if opting in. This move gives the Clippers some cap space to use in the upcoming free agency as well as young players in Jordan Clarkson and Cedi Osman that can be contributors.

This trade also gives the Cavs another big name to lure LeBron back home without sacrificing really anything that matters in regards to their immediate contention. Cleveland is clearly not afraid to make trades, as they showed on the trade deadline last season making three large trades on the same day. If the Cavaliers could trade for Jordan and CJ McCollum on the same night they would certainly stand to make a better push on keeping LeBron then they currently have.

Pacers / Hornets

Pacers Receive: Kemba Walker and Cody Zeller
Hornets Receive: Darren Collison, Al Jefferson, Cory Joseph and the 23rd Pick
Instagram Photo

Kemba Walker has been in trade rumors all year but failed to be dealt prior to the NBA trade deadline. Still, it is hard to not feel like Walker’s time in Charlotte is over. This move makes a ton of sense for both teams. First, the Hornets are able to get enough decent players that they can still be semi-competitive without having to pay Kemba a max deal and while dumping Cody Zeller’s terrible contract and getting an additional first-round pick.

The Pacers are able to add another dynamic scorer alongside Victor Oladipo without sacrificing any of their key players. Indiana surprised even themselves when they were able to secure the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference last season, changing their plans from a rebuilding era to contending immediately on the back of Oldadipo’s incredible season. A backcourt of Walker and Oladipo would be one of the most dynamic in the league and could be a great chemistry match due to how vocal both players have been about wanting to play for a winning organization.

Madden 19 Player Ratings: Tom Brady Not Top-Rated QB

EA Sports

As the Madden 19 player ratings are beginning to be released, there is a bit of a surprise at quarterback. If you had to choose who the best signal-caller in the NFL currently is, you’d be hard-pressed not to choose New England Patriots star Tom Brady. However, the folks at EA Sports appear to have a different evaluation when it comes to the players under center.

As it turns out, Brady is not the highest-rated quarterback in the upcoming edition of the popular video game franchise.

Instead, that honor goes to Green Bay Packers signal-caller Aaron Rodgers who checks in with a perfect rating of 99 overall. Brady, meanwhile, registers a 97 overall in the Madden 19 “work in progress” QB ratings.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees (90 overall) is the only other player under center to register a rating of 90 or higher. Rounding out the top five is Seattle Seahawks star Russell Wilson at 89 overall and Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan (88 overall).

Outside of the top five, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, Los Angeles Charger quarterback Philip Rivers, and Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck are tied at 86 overall.

Of course, since the ratings are just a “work in progress,” there is still a chance that Tommy Terrific gets bumped to a 99 overall by the time the game officially hits shelves.

Madden NFL 19 is set to be released on Aug. 10, 2018. The “Hall of Fame” edition of the game features Proo Football Hall of Fame inductee Terrell Owens. The game will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, while also being available on Microsoft Windows for the first time since 2007. There is currently no word on who will be the cover athlete for the standard edition of the game.

AFC South 2018: Draft Picks To Watch Out For

$
0
0

The AFC South has the potential to be the best division in football this year. If the Texans can prove Deshaun Watson, Whitney Mercilus and J.J Watt are fully healthy, they could challenge the Jaguars for the division. You also have to watch out for Andrew Luck if he’s healthy. If everything goes right, it’s anyone’s division. We could possibly even see three teams from the AFC South in the playoffs.

Houston Texans

Instagram Photo

Justin Reid

The 3rdround safety out of Stanford is going to be leaned on heavily in 2018. The Texans didn’t have a first or second-round pick in the 2018 draft, so the Reid pick is already incredibly important. The Texans also cut 2015 first-team All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu, who was a huge cog in a below average Texans secondary that was already dealing with the loss of A.J Bouye to the division rival Jaguars. Poor play from former first-round corner Kevin Johnson and the rapidly aging Jonathan Joseph is going to make Reid’s role in the secondary all the more important.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Instagram Photo

D.J Chark

The Jaguars are in need of someone to step up at wide receiver. They lost Allen Robinson to the Chicago Bears in free agency, and they released Allen Hurns, who signed with the Dallas Cowboys. Chark is a big receiver, standing at 6’2, who can run very well (4.34 40 yard dash at the NFL Combine). Chark flashed a lot of big-play ability at LSU, but the biggest question with him will be: can Blake Bortles get him the football? If Bortles proves he can get Chark the ball, the tandem of Chark and Donte Moncrief will be able to stretch defenses better than almost anyone in the league.

Tennessee Titans

Instagram Photo

Harold Landry

Landry is arguably a top 10 player in this draft class, but concerns about some injuries he played through during his senior year at Boston College caused his stock to slide all the way into the 2ndround. Landry brings an extra element to Mike Vrabel’s defense, which needed some more help rushing the passer. Jurrell Casey is an elite pass rusher, but he needs more help. Landry will be able to make an instant impact from his outside linebacker spot and fill a role that Kevin Dodd hasn’t been able to yet.

Indianapolis Colts

Instagram Photo

Tyquan Lewis

The last of three 2ndround picks the Colts used in 2018, Lewis has the look of a day one starter. He played on an incredibly talented Ohio State defensive line and should be able to have a huge impact during the season. The Colts defense is not very talented and needs help at every level. Lewis has the ability to be a star on a Colts defense desperate for talent. Their first round pick from last season, Malik Hooker, is coming off of a torn ACL, but he made a huge impact when he was on the field. Expect much of the same from Lewis when he hits the field.

MLB 2018: AL West & NL West Potential Trade Deadline Moves

The AL West and NL West’s top teams are serious contenders for a World Series run and now we will find out who is going to buy and who is going to sell. The Mariners have surprised baseball fans around the country with their surge even without stud second baseman Robinson Cano. The Astros have the best pitching staff in baseball and they are looking to repeat as World Series Champs. The NL West is extremely competitive with the last place Padres just a few games behind the division leader Diamondbacks. With that being said, let’s break down each team’s possible trade deadline status as the race in both western divisions heats up.

AL West

Houston Astros

Instagram Photo

Trade Deadline Status: Buyers

News flash! The Astros are a nuclear absurdity of talent and they are built for yet another postseason run. Their offense is strong and the pitching staff is probably the best in baseball. However, their bullpen is in need of a little bit of a boost. After Kelvin Herrera was traded to the Nationals, a prime target was off the market. Zach Britton is a name that has been floating around the Astros since the Orioles began to really tank and he is one of the most ideal fits in Houston. The Astros are always ready to add pitchers and there’s a reason to their madness. They want to win now. It can never hurt to add arms to the bullpen and pitching staff.

Seattle Mariners

Instagram Photo

Trade Deadline Status: Buyers

Well, look at what we have here! The Mariners are easily the biggest surprise team in baseball and there is no shortage of talent in Seattle. Mitch Haniger has been on fire as of late and the pitching staff is really clicking. The Mariners will most likely go after more pitchers in order to strengthen their pitching staff. J.A. Happ has been a name that has been tied to the Mariners and there is a very real possibility that Happ does end up in Seattle. The two most likely landing spots are either New York or Seattle. Adam Jones could also be a name that comes up in trade talks as the Orioles are looking to sell virtually their entire team.

Los Angeles Angels

Instagram Photo

Trade Deadline Status: Probably Buyers

Potentially losing Japanese phenom Shohei Ohtani to Tommy John Surgery would be an even bigger blow to a team that is super competitive. Mike Trout is not human and he is easily one of the best players in the game right now. The Angels will most likely look to add arms so that they can try and push their way into the playoffs. Look for the Angels to try and go after Jeurys Familia from the Mets in the bullpen, Cole Hamels from the Rangers, and potentially Chris Archer or even Michael Fulmer. The Angels are throwing their name into every pot that they can find and hopefully someone would be willing to bite on one of their offers. This team isn’t out just yet.

Oakland Athletics

Instagram Photo

Trade Deadline Status: Barely Sellers

The A’s are still in contention for a wild-card spot but they will most likely sell only a few pieces. Jed Lowrie and Khris Davis are the two names that the A’s will most likely shop and they can most likely get some decent prospects in return. Jed Lowrie may be finding himself back on the Red Sox come July 31st and Davis could be heading to either the Nationals or Diamondbacks. Both Washington and Arizona could use a bit of a boost in the outfield and Boston could become even more dangerous using Lowrie as a utility man.

Texas Rangers

Instagram Photo

Trade Deadline Status: Sellers

The Rangers are struggling mightily this year and they will be looking to deal some of their well-known pieces. The name that sticks out the most is Cole Hamels. Hamels is a seasoned veteran that knows how to compete and win in the postseason. The Yankees appear to be a major front-runner in the Cole Hamels sweepstakes and it’s only a matter of time until he is traded to a World Series contender. Could the Rangers get some of the Yankees’ top prospects in return? Possibly. Bartolo Colon could possibly be on the move as well. The Big Sexy could potentially end up in a place like Los Angeles and suit up for the Dodgers. Is the Big Sexy’s career in the final stretch? We will find out soon.

NL West

Arizona Diamondbacks

Instagram Photo

Trade Deadline Status: Buyers

Let’s keep this right to the point. The Diamondbacks are ready to go all in on Manny Machado. If Arizona can pull off that trade, they will become the team to beat in the NL West. Simple as that. Khris Davis has been brought up in the Arizona trade deadline talks and he would add some serious speed and depth to the outfield out in the desert. In addition to position players, pitchers such as Chris Archer and Michael Fulmer have also been brought up. If one of the two could team up with Zach Greinke, then it could be a problem for other teams. However, Patrick Corbin could be the only piece that may be leaving Arizona. The bidding war could become very high for the talented lefty but it’s still unclear as to where he will be after the deadline.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Instagram Photo

Trade Deadline Status: Buyers

Like the Diamondbacks and a group of many others, the Dodgers are pursuing Manny Machado with flying colors. Where the Baltimore superstar will end up is still a mystery right now but the suspense just keeps on building up. Pitchers like Alex Colome, Zach Britton, and Bartolo Colon could become Dodgers by the end of July and it will definitely add a bit of a spark to a team that has been rather lackluster through the first half of the season. The Dodgers are an odd team to evaluate at this point because they have a lot of talent. However, when will the talent wake up and be on full display like it was last season?

San Francisco Giants

Instagram Photo

Trade Deadline Status: To Be Determined

The Giants are probably the biggest wild-card when it comes to the trade deadline. If they step up their game and overcome the injury bug, they will buy. However, if they continue to slip, they will sell. The decision of buying or selling may be made just a few days before the deadline and who knows what the Giants could do. If they were tempted to sell, they would get a lot in return for Madison Bumgarner. He is easily the most attractive feature on the Giants’ roster. The dominant lefty has had his fair share of struggles over the years but is a force when he is clicking on all cylinders. Bumgarner could potentially end up on a team that had the highest bid and it could potentially turn into a bidding war like Storage Wars.

Colorado Rockies

Instagram Photo

Trade Deadline Status: Buyers and Possibly Sellers

The Rockies have some pieces that they could sell and they could also have the ability to add players as well. Brian Dozier is a name that could be added from the Minnesota Twins. The reliable second baseman could make his way over to the Mile High City as a result of an expiring contract and the uprising of the fourth overall Twins prospect Nick Gordon. Wade Davis is the most notable name that could be on his way out of Colorado. The Rockies’ bullpen is an absolute dumpster fire and will try to potentially trade some of their current pieces for new members that could hopefully stabilize an absolutely abysmal group.

San Diego Padres

Instagram Photo

Trade Deadline Status: Probably Sellers

The Padres aren’t too far behind in the NL West race but it could get ugly very fast. The Padres are looking to sell pitchers Brad Hand and Tyson Ross at the July 31st deadline and they can get some solid prospects in return. Hand has been tied to the Boston Red Sox has a result of Craig Kimbrel’s struggles and it could make the Red Sox a bit more stable in the bullpen. Ross has been linked to the Yankees should they strike out on the Hamels, Fulmer, and Happ sweepstakes. It seems more likely that Hand will be on his way out of San Diego and they will try and groom their farm system for a few more years.

Antwon Rose: Full Story of East Pittsburgh Teenager Killed By Police

Police have identified a 17-year-old who was shot and killed by police in East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania after he allegedly ran away from a traffic stop as Antwon Rose. Rose was a student at Woodland Hills High School last year.

The Allegheny County Police Department says that Rose got out of a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle seen near a shooting that occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Kirkpatrick Avenue in North Braddock.

Authorities say that the officer from the East Pittsburgh Police Department was handcuffing the driver of the vehicle when two male passengers — one of which was Rose — ran from the car. Police then shot and killed him. Rose did not have a weapon on him and was shot three times. After being shot, Rose was taken to McKeesport Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

At this time, The Allegheny County Police Department is asking the suspect who ran away from the vehicle to turn himself in “so that he can give a comprehensive description of what occurred.”

Information on the vehicle that fled the North Braddock scene was put out over the air for neighboring police departments to assist/respond. An East Pittsburgh police officer saw a vehicle matching the description on Grandview Avenue which also had ballistics damage to the rear window. The officer stopped the vehicle near Grandview and Howard Street in East Pittsburgh. The officer took the driver into custody. While he was putting the driver into handcuffs, two other occupants ran from the car. One individual – a 17-year-old male – was shot by police. He was transported to McKeesport Hospital where he was declared deceased. Further information on the deceased, including name, will be released by the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner once formal identification has been made and the next of kin notified.

Duquense Mayor Nickole Nsby wrote about Rose on Facebook, saying “He volunteered for me as well. He prepared excel spreadsheets and scheduled for our Movies in the Park on Friday’s. My heart is broken.”

As for the suspect police arrested, his name has not been released and it is not known what charges he is facing.

At the time of this writing, the identity of the officer who shot Rose has not been released.

NBA Draft Busts: Top 5 Biggest Busts Of All Time

NBA Draft Busts

The NBA Draft is always an exciting time for basketball fans all around the country as they hope that their team will select the next big name from an extremely talented group of draft enrollees. Teams want to build around franchise players and each first-round pick is believed to be a step in the direction towards setting a foundation and winning a championship. However, there have been a number of instances where a well-known player in college doesn’t live up to the expectations once they enter the NBA. These busts were virtually unstoppable in college or in their overseas leagues. Once they reached the NBA, they were in for a rude awakening. Let’s take a look at the top five NBA Draft busts of all time.

5. Adam Morrison Charlotte Bobcats (No. 3 Overall, 2006)

Instagram Photo

Adam Morrison was an absolute freak of nature while playing for Gonzaga. He led the Zags to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament and averaged just over 28 points per game. Those 28 points per game made him the NCAA scoring leader for the 2005-2006 season. The Bobcats selected Morrison third overall and it was Michael Jordan’s first pick as Director of Basketball Operations. Morrison began to lose his shot midway through the 2006-2007 and then tore his ACL in a 2007 preseason game which made him miss the entire 2007-2008 season. Morrison was then traded to the Lakers but barely played during their 2009 and 2010 championship seasons. It’s safe to say that Morrison’s NBA career was a large disaster.

4. Michael Olowokandi: Los Angeles Clippers (No. 1 Overall, 1998)

Instagram Photo

When a guy is seven feet tall, he has been given the DNA jackpot when it comes to playing basketball. Hailing from the University of Pacific, it was a disaster for the Clippers to pick him number one overall right from the get-go. Olowokandi did not start playing organized basketball until he was 18. Yeah, you read that correctly. He averaged just over eight points per game and only broke 45 percent shooting one time in his 10 seasons in the NBA. Just let it sink in that Olowokandi was drafted before Vince Carter, Dirk Nowitzki, Mike Bibby, and Paul Pierce. Yikes!

3. Greg Oden (No. 1 Overall, 2007)

Instagram Photo

Greg Oden was an absolute stud when he played at Ohio State during the 2006-2007 season. He led the Buckeyes to the National Championship game where they were eventually defeated by the Florida Gators and Joakim Noah. Oden averaged just under 16 points per game, over three blocks per game, and just under 10 rebounds per game in his one season wearing the Scarlet and Grey. Oden was drafted number one overall and had all of the makings of a future NBA star. However, knee injuries in the 2007-2008, 2009-2010, 2010-2011 seasons led to his demise. The dominant seven-footer never really got his chance to put his talent on full-display due to the injury bug and it’s really a shame.

2. Darko Milicic (Number 2 Overall, 2003)

Instagram Photo

Milicic was looked upon as the next Dirk Nowitzki. When a European player gets compared the legend Dirk himself, it doesn’t turn out well at all. Darko Milicic was barely 18 years old when the Pistons selected him and ended up winning a title in just his first season. However, he barely played during that magical run with Chauncey Billups and company. Maybe Milicic would have been better suited in a different setting, or maybe he wouldn’t have. In his NBA career, he has not looked like a former number two overall pick at all and has averaged just about six points per game. Yikes again!

1. Sam Bowie (Number 2 Overall, 1984)

Instagram Photo

Sam Bowie, then 23 years later, Greg Oden. There’s just something about Portland and centers that do not mix well together. The Trail Blazers lost a coin flip for the number
one overall pick that year. That pick was Hakeem Olajuwon. Not to mention Michael Jordan was picked third overall in the same draft. John Stockton and Charles Barkley were also part of the 1984 draft class as well. Bowie missed two full seasons at Kentucky due to major stress fractures in his legs. At 7’1″, everything could have possibly gone wrong in Bowie’s career. He was supposed to be the last piece of the puzzle that would lead Portland to a championship. Bowie was surrounded by Clyde Drexler, Mychal Thompson, Kiki Vandeweghe, and Jerome Kersey. I’ve said it twice, but the third time’s the charm. YIKES!!!!!!

Do We Ever Really Grow Up?

Shutterstock

Face it; no one ever wants to grow up. If we all had it our way, we would be playing outside or watching movies instead of working at a desk or cubical. Sometimes you wonder if Peter Pan can fly you to Neverland where no one ever grows up. But, do we ever grow up? Our bodies may change, and we may look different than we once were, but do we ever lose the kid inside of us? My answer is no.

As we grow up, we learn and use that knowledge to lead us to knew and different places. But, as we become adults, there is still so much to learn. It’s like when your parents would tell you what to do, half the time they didn’t know what they were talking about, but you still listened to them. Everyone thinks that the older you are, the more you know, and that can be wrong. A lot of us still need to learn.

When we grow up, we make mistakes, that doesn’t mean that adults can never make mistakes. Of course, adults make mistakes; no one is perfect. Growing up shouldn’t be a bad thing because we are all still kids learning about the world and how to live in it. There comes a time in our life where we do need to take responsibility for our actions and work to become better, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be a kid here and there.

Think about holidays, parties, going out to movies; all these events are us being kids. Doesn’t matter about the wrinkles that will appear on our face, it matters about the person inside of us that tells us to live a little and have some fun. Growing up is just age, I see people in their 80s who dance like they are still in their teens.

It’s all about change, it sucks, but we can’t stop it from happening. Change can be useful because it leads us to bigger and better things. It can also get us to touch on our younger selves. You can reflect on the good times and know that it is only good ahead.

Instagram Photo

Peter Pan may say “Once you’re grown up you can’t come back” but he is wrong. You can always go back to being a kid. It may not be for very long but that small amount of time will make our child side shine bright like a shooting star. So, go out and be a kid. Eat a bowl of sugary cereal, mix popcorn with candy and watch a Disney movie, go to an amusement park, play a sport, do something because the child in you is begging to come out.

Summer Solstice 2018: Must-See Details About Summer Equinox

$

Surprisingly, summer doesn’t just start when the weather becomes unbearably hot. From a technical standpoint, the season doesn’t begin until the Solstice, a celestial event which has been used to dictate the changing of time since humans started counting days. But since its significance has plummeted in recent centuries, many people seem unaware of the history and purpose of the annual phenomenon. That’s where we come in. We’ve compiled a list of the most common questions internet users have about the Summer Solstice and even went out of our way to provide the answers! Aren’t we nice?

What Is Summer Solstice

Instagram Photo

Scientifically speaking, it’s the day of the year where one of a planet’s poles is closest to its primary star. Since Earth rotates on a tilted axis, it actually has two Summer Solstices, one for the northern hemisphere and one for the southern. These two dates are identifiable by being the longest solar day in their respective regions. This is not to say that either day is longer than 24 hours, but rather that the sun is out longer than any other day of the year. That might not sound too impressive, but consider that in some parts of the world, this can mean that they get up to 22 hours of sunlight on the Solstice. Scientists have even managed to pinpoint to the exact minute in which the Earth’s pole is closest to the sun. This is considered the start of the calendar summer

After the Solstice, the days will start getting progressively shorter until the day and night are equal lengths on the Fall Equinox when both poles are equidistant from the sun. This will, in turn, lead to the Winter Solstice, the shortest solar day of the year where a pole is at its furthest point from the sun. Following the Winter Solstice, the days will gradually become longer and the annual cycle will repeat itself.

Summer Solstice 2018 Date

Instagram Photo

In 2018, the Summer Solstice also called the June Solstice or Midsummer, will take place in the northern hemisphere on Thursday, June 21st at around 6:07 AM EST or 10:07 UTC. If you forget, just look out your window around 10 that night and ask yourself why the sun is still up.

Summer Solstice Rituals & Meaning?

Instagram Photo

In the modern age, there isn’t much non-scientific purpose for the Solstice. Most people gauge the start of summer by whenever they feel it to be too warm for it to be spring anymore. Only astronomers and various sub-sects of sociologists use the Solstice as a measuring tool for different cosmic events or population studies.

In the past, however, the Solstice was considered a major religious holiday for most pagan faiths and pre-Abrahamic religions. The longest day of the year was consequential for primitive farming calendars so the day itself, or a close approximation to it provided by a local priest or soothsayer, was a time for revelry and celebration. Depending on the culture, the Summer Solstice holiday, called Litha by most Euro-centric interpretations, was in reverence to a new crop cycle, prime fertility dates or just the middle of the year. Though most major religions don’t have a direct Solstice ritual, it is still celebrated by some wiccans and other fringe faiths. Celebratory rituals usually involve bonfires, feasts and sun worship. But for the most part, it’s just fodder for astrologists these days.

Summer Solstice Activities?

Instagram Photo

Ostensibly, the Solstice is more or less just another day but longer. There are, however, a number of specific Solstice-related events you could take advantage of on the date in question. Though it no longer has a major religious significance, several music and art festivals still crop up on the Solstice every year to take advantage of the longest hours of daylight available. Among the more famous annual events is a day-long public yoga session in Times Square, a veritable bacchanal that takes over Stonehenge, a midsummer folk celebration in Stockholm, the Astrofest star-gazing convention in Croatia and, of course, the Secret Solstice Midnight Sun Music Festival in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Summer Solstice Length?

Instagram Photo

This is entirely dependent on where you live but the general rule of thumb is that the farther north you are, the longer your Solstice is going to be. Because of how the Earth is angled towards the sun during the Solstice, the closest areas to the pole is in direct sunlight for almost an entire daily rotation. A solar day in these areas can last up to 22 hours, leading to problems like sleep deprivation and general discombobulation. But that’s why we have coffee, right? The same holds true in reverse for the southern hemisphere. When their Summer Solstice comes around in December, the southernmost areas will experience the longest day.

Valparaiso Police Department

Charley Fowler, a 28-year-old An Indiana woman, has been accused of dragging a nail salon employee with her car in Valparaiso, Indiana.

According to employees at the Diamond & Nails Spa, Fowler, a child therapist, complained about the quality of her manicure, refused to let employees redo her nails, and then left without paying her bill before allegedly dragging an employee with her car. Phihung Nguyen, an employee at the salon said he hung onto the vehicle’s hood while Fowler dragged him approximately 40 feet. He complained of pain to his shin and hand, but officers said he had no visible injuries.

Fowler tells a different story, claiming that as she was waiting in her car for police, salon employees began pounding on her windows which caused her to try and flee the scene.

Fowler was arrested and transported to the Porter County Jail, where she was charged with misdemeanor theft and criminal recklessness.

via The Times of Northwest Indiana:

Porter County Prosecutor Brian Gensel, whose office will make the final determination on charges, said Tuesday morning he was waiting to see the surveillance video. While salon employees told police they offered to redo the manicure and Fowler declined, Harper said Fowler was too busy to stay and said she would return the following day. When salon employees opted to call police, Fowler said she would wait in her vehicle, Harper said.

Fowler claims she pulled out of her parking spot because salon employees were beating on the windows of her vehicle. She said she drove slowly to a nearby restaurant. Police said a surveillance video shows she dragged an employee across the lot.

But Harper pointed out that Fowler is not accused of hitting the employee with her vehicle and dragging him. The employee jumped on her car, which Harper said is reflective of the improper vigilante approach in settling this case.

Fowler and her lawyer say they hope to have the case dismissed.

Tired of drinking lukewarm Keystone Light out of a 6-month-old keg? Trying to move past Bud Light Limes and Coronas? Crushed enough 30-racks to last a lifetime? The point is, you’re likely at that stage in your life (or close to it) where you want to drink better beer.

Don’t feel bad, as it happens to all of us at one point or another. While shitty beer never really goes away — trust me, stale kegs and 30’s are still very much a thing in post-grad life — decent beer becomes further appreciated and desired the older you get. While I get f*cked up way less than I did in college, I actually kind of drink more now because I have a delicious new beer with my dinner every night. And buddy, let me let you in on a little secret … Shock Top doesn’t count.

So, with all that in mind, we decided to set the very obtainable (and enjoyable) goal of trying, and hopefully enjoying, a new beer every week.

Me in the meeting finding out COED is going to allocate budget to buy me beer.

From popular IPA’s to obscure chocolate stouts, this is COED’s Beer of the Week.

About Magic Hat HI.P.A.

via Magic Hat:

A highly hopped India Pale Ale, which was formerly our spring seasonal. It began and ended with a hop bite that is itself forever balanced on the brink by a steady rhythm of malt. The label was designed by artist Stanley Mouse who is internationally acclaimed for his iconographic concert posters for venues like the Fillmore Auditoriums and the Winterland Ballroom as well as his classic album covers for the Grateful Dead and other bands.

COED’s Review

Magic Hat’s HI.P.A. is definitely for IPA lovers. Definitely, on the hoppy side, this India Pale Ale is not for the average/casual beer drinker, who will complain about how “unsmooth” it is.

At 6.7 ABV and packed with hops, it isn’t necessarily a beer you should have with dinner or before you go out to the bar as it can leave you feeling quite heavy. This is the type of beer you have if you plan on staying in on a Friday night and want to get a casual buzz on.

Jeri Ann Griffin

Jeri Ann Griffin, a 41-year-old Oklahoma teacher’s aide, has been accused of giving students alcohol and having sex with one of them.

Griffin, who has resigned from her job as a teacher’s assistant for Covington-Douglas Public Schools, was arrested and released on bond. She was arrested for second-degree rape, sodomy, making lewd or indecent proposals to a child under 16 and furnishing alcohol to a minor.

In addition to the 18-year-old boy that she had sex with, Griffin is accused of attempting to kiss a 15-year-old teen as well.

via Enid News and Eagle:

The teen told authorities that a few months ago, he was at Griffin’s house with her husband, helping them move to another house when he was given alcohol. Thehe teen said he drank 10 to 15 beers that night at Griffin’s home, along with a 15-year-old freshman. The teen said Griffin had also been flirting with him over Snapchat that same night, according to court documents. He told authorities that he later met Griffin at the other house and the two had sex.

Griffin asked the teen not to tell her husband, but said they should do it again. The teenager told authorities there were several other times when Griffin performed oral sex on him and they once made out in a closet. He said this wasn’t the only time he had drank alcohol at the couple’s house. He claimed he drank alcohol at the couple’s house between seven and ten times.

A 15-year-old boy who had also told police he was invited to drink at the couple’s house said Griffin tried to kiss him multiple times; however, he said that he told her to stop. The 15-year-old even said Griffin messaged him over Snapchat, asking if they could hang out again. When he told Griffin he had a girlfriend, Griffin allegedly said that his girlfriend could share him and that his girlfriend didn’t have to know.

Griffin is just the latest teacher to be charged for an alleged relationship with a teenager student.  Over the course of just a few months, educators across the country were arrested for entering into an inappropriate relationship with their students, Tennessee teacher Janet Smothers, LaToya Parker, Florida teacher Caroline Lawson, 26-year-old Allyson Moran and Katherine Ross Ridenhour were all arrested on similar charges.

The list goes on to include 22-year-old Oklahoma science teacher Hunter Day, 28-year-old teacher Megan Kotarski, 23-year-old history teacher Michelle Schiffer, 29-year-old Alyssia Marie Reddy, special education teacher Jordan Ondish and 28-year-old Samantha Fitzpatrick have all been allegedly carrying on inappropriate relationships with their students.

In addition, 31-year-old Nicole Marie Andrews, 32-year-old Jessica Langford, 29-year-old Andrea Baber, 27-year-old Robin Dunlap, 27-year-old Jennifer Olajire-Aro have also been charged with these charges.

34-year-old Miranda Nicole Pauley was charged with similar crimes, Nancy Leigh Ann Brann, a former Christian school teacher, was arrested for having sex with a student, Coine Audiat pleaded no contest to having sex with a minor in 2016 and 23-year-old Darci Lake was arrested for an inappropriate relationship. 27-year-old Brittany Zamora from Arizona was arrested on similar charges. Keri Hoffman, 35, was also arrested for an alleged relationship with a student. More recently, 29-year-old Tiffany Ranweiler-Oblander and 33-year-old Maren Oates were arrested on similar charges.

WVU Announces New Recommendations for Fraternities & Sororities On Campus

West Virginia University has announced their suggestions to issues they found after they conducted a review of its fraternity and sorority system.

A committee established by WVU’s Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life reviewed each chapter in the university’s academic, disciplinary, and community engagement and came up with an appropriate “action plan” to “better align each organization with the university’s mission.”

The committee presented its recommendations regarding each chapter’s status to the Dean of Students Corey Farris, who approved the recommendations, which were accepted by President Gordon Gee and Provost Joyce McConnell.

According to reports, the Phi Sigma Kappa, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Alpha Mu, and Phi Gamma Delta fraternities have temporarily lost recognition as a student organization.

Matthew Richardson, director of the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life, released the following statement:

“President Gee challenged us to be bold. He wants us to be fair and equitable in our approach to fraternity and sorority engagement, and I feel confident that we are set up for success in light of the Reaching the Summit recognition review. Transparency is key, and we intend to publish all relevant information regarding our chapters to our website for students, parents, and families to see. This will include academic and judicial histories on our campus.”

This is the latest major Greek Life overhaul in the last couple of years, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have all suspended fraternities in the wake of hazing and alcohol deaths.

These reports come amidst similar allegations that have been made against fraternities nationwide, including Sigma Alpha Epsilon at East Carolina University, who were shut down for hazing and the Lamda Chi Alpha chapter at the University of Arkansas which has been accused of taking sexually explicit photographs of women without their permission.

In response to incidents like these, fraternities such Phi Kappa Psi have made numerous changes to their code of conduct in an effort to address the issues that have arisen. In addition, schools such as Texas State have introduced new Greek Life rules to try and prevent these problems.
