This November will mark TWO YEARS since Conor McGregor — the sports most transcendent athlete — fought in the UFC. Yes, he fought Floyd Mayweather back in August 2017, but that was boxing. IF November 12 comes to pass and Conor McGregor hasn’t stepped back into the Octagon, the UFC will have been without it’s biggest ever star for 24 months. I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t sound like good business for either party to me.

However, just because McGregor hasn’t been fighting in the Octagon does not mean he hasn’t been busy, in fact, quite the opposite, as we’ve likely seen more of McGregor in the past year than we ever have before.

Whether it be the release of his documentary, his new clothing line, or his Brooklyn Bus Shenanigans, while McGregor may have been absent from the fight game, he has always remained the center of the attention. And according to the man himself, he was supposed to step back into the spotlight of the Octagon on May 12 if “something” didn’t come up:

“Made it to number 4 on the Forbes list this year. If I had of fought on the agreed May 12th bout in Rio De Janeiro, I would have surpassed Ronaldo and Messi to take 2nd place. Something came up however… ah well, still under 30,” McGregor said on Instagram.

But who was he going to fight? Nate Diaz for the third time? Floyd Mayweather with UFC rules? Nope, according to ESPN, the fight would have been against Rafael dos Anjos for the interim welterweight championship.

It would have been an opportunity for McGregor to win a title in a third weight class — something no UFC fighter has done. Dos Anjos, also a former lightweight champ, ended up being scheduled instead for an interim 170-pound title bout with Colby Covington, though the fight later was moved from the Rio card to this Saturday in Chicago.

McGregor won the featherweight belt in December 2015 with a 13-second knockout of Jose Aldo, then added the lightweight strap in November 2016 with a second-round TKO of Eddie Alvarez. Both belts were stripped — the featherweight later in November 2016 and the lightweight in April — after McGregor did not defend either. He initially took time off for the birth of his first child, then engaged in a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather last August.

The “something” that came up and scuttled McGregor’s return presumably was the April bus attack that took place during a UFC 223 media day event in Brooklyn. Two fighters were injured by broken glass and three bouts were canceled. McGregor faces three charges of misdemeanor assault and one count of felony criminal mischief and is due in court June 14.

While it’s disappointing to know that McGregor’s own stupidity likely robbed us of the chance to watch him fight again, this news almost certainly confirms that he will make his return to the Octagon before 2018 comes to a close.

A pair of lawmakers in Pennsylvania has introduced free college legislation in the state’s General Assembly in a move that is expected to extend to both state universities and community colleges. This proposal has been dubbed the “Pennsylvania Promise.”

What do we know about the proposal?

Senator Vincent J. Hughs and state representative James Roebuck are sponsoring the bills in the House and Senate, respectively.

The “Pennsylvania Promise” has been compared to similar New York legislation and expects to expand access and affordability at Pennsylvania’s community colleges, state-owned schools and state-related universities.

The program would be administered by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, or “PHEAA.”

The new legislation could underwrite two years of tuition and fees for recent high school graduates who attend one of the 14 community colleges. Students with a family income of $110,000 or less per year could be eligible for four years of tuition and fees at a state-owned or state-related university. Similarly, students with a family income at $48,000 or less would also be eligible for assistance with costs concerning room and board.

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisles are at least talking about the proposal

Kenneth Mash, who serves as the president of the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties, defended the move, saying that it would help officials dealing with rising costs and declining enrollment. According to a statement with The Morning Call, he explained that he wants the move to get people talking about making college more affordable in Pennsylvania:

“We have a real crisis of affordability in Pennsylvania. I’m not Pollyannaish. I don’t think this is going to happen tomorrow or in this budget but if we don’t start the conversation nothing will change.”

In addition, he said that lawmakers on both sides of the spectrum have shown interest in at least talking about the proposal, which could an estimated $1 billion a year.

PFL kicks off its regular season on Thursday, June 7 with PFL 1: Harrison vs. Tuerxun at New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden. The main event features former WSOF champion Andre Harrison, who will be looking to keep his undefeated record intact against Juma Tuerxun. Another former champion, Lance Palmer, will also be featured on the card against Bekbulat Magomedov.

Fighters competing in the event will earn points with the opportunity to compete for $1 million at the end of the season.

“My dream is to come back and play football again. I’ve been working my tail off every single day,” Ryan Shazier said to reporters on Wednesday, June 6, at his first press conference since he suffered a devastating spinal injury during Week 13 of the 2017 NFL season.

In one of the most shocking scenes in recent NFL history, Shazier was left lying on Paul Brown Stadium turf — unable to move his legs — after delivering a helmet-first hit on Bengals receiver Josh Malone. What made the injury most frightening was that Shazier was fully conscious during the entire ordeal. As someone who has watched the NFL for most of his life, it was the most disturbing thing I had ever personally seen while watching football.

Two days after the injury, Shazier underwent spinal stabilization surgery on December 6, 2017, and has been rehabbing ever since. Fast forward to late April and Shazier was walking across the stage at the 2018 NFL Draft to announce the Pittsburgh Steelers first-round selection. It was astounding.

Then, about a month after this awe-inspiring moment, Shazier spoke to the media for the first time to talk about his rehab process and his dream of making it back to the NFL.

And while Shazier’s story of determination is undoubtedly inspiring, it’s certainly not the first, as there have been many undaunted athletes before him who have clawed their way back from devastating injury.

Peyton Manning

Manning underwent multiple neck surgeries along with spinal fusion surgery ahead of the 2011 season, which forced him to miss both the 2011 and 2012 seasons. Manning would make his comeback in Denver in 2013, setting all sorts of offensive records en route to two Super Bowl appearances and one victory.

Paul George

Paul George suffered one of the most gruesome injuries in recent NBA history when he a compound tibia-fibula fracture during a Team USA scrimmage back in 2014. While the injury looked career-threatening, George was actually able to play in six games that season before putting together his best ever season (at the time) in 2015.

Willis McGahee

Despite the fact that this was before smartphones and Twitter, Miami Hurricanes Willis McGahee suffered a knee injury that was so gruesome, it went viral anyway.

During the fourth quarter during the 2003 Fiesta Bowl National Championship Game, McGahee — who was considered a consensus top 5 NFL draft pick — suffered gruesome injury after catching a screen pass, causing tears of the ACL, PCL, and MCL.

However, McGahee never gave up his dream of making it to the NFL and was taken in the first-round anyway. After sitting out the entire 2003 season, McGahee made his NFL debut for the Buffalo Bills in 2004, rushing for over 1000 yards. McGahee would go on to have a 10-year NFL career.

Giancarlo Stanton

Before he was an unlikeable Yankee, Giancarlo Stanton was a likable Miami Marlin. And during his 2014 season with the Marlins, Stanton suffered an injury that would cost most men their careers. Most.

Stanton was hit in the face by a pitch against the Milwaukee Brewers, which left him with facial fractures, lacerations, and dental damage so severe he was forced to miss the rest of the season. But being the world-class athlete that he in, Stanton was back in the batter’s box for the Marlins that very next season.

Lance Armstrong

Lance Armstong’s name may carry a bit of baggage these days, there was a time when Armstong’s return from testicular cancer to win the Tour De France was one of the greatest achievements in the history of American sports.

While the news of Armstrong’s steroid use has since tainted those once heralded accomplishments, there’s no denying that Armstrong’s return to the mountaintop of cycling was a massive achievement of the human spirit.

Jackson Middle School in Vienna, West Virginia, was placed on lockdown as police investigate reports of threats being made against the school. In addition, local authorities were blocking nearby roads near the school as they investigate. The Wood County School District has also confirmed the news, with other local and state agencies reportedly helping police with the investigation.

What happened?

According to The News Center, Vienna police originally sought help from other local and state agencies.

UPDATE: According to The News Center, Vienna police confirmed that a male juvenile is in custody relating to the threat, alleging that the suspect threatened to commit some harm to Jackson Middle School.

According to The Parkersburg News and Sentinel, The threat’s origin was located across a river in the area, with the tip being picked up by ATF; according to Wood County 911, the school was reported on lockdown as a precaution.

What happens now?

According to The News Center, it is unclear at this time if the suspect in police custody will face any charges; officials also did not disclose the nature of the threat being made against the school to the public.

New Jersey state police say the body of Ronald Vega, a college student who went missing last month, has been found near a swamp area in southern New Jersey. At this time, police do not know Vega’s cause of death. He was a student at nearby Cumberland College.

Vega, a 28-year-old man from Millville, New Jersey, was last seen May 24 and had been reported missing by his family that same day. In the following days and weeks, authorities conducted several land and air searches near the marsh area in Fairfield Township, where his car had been found abandoned.

According to NJ.com, New Jersey State Police Spokesman Trooper Alejandro Goez confirmed on Thursday, June 7, that Vega’s body was found near the marsh on Monday, June 4.

Furthermore, Goez said that the incident remains under investigation and that Vega’s body has been turned over to the Office of the Medical Examiner. The Southern Regional Medical Examiner will examine Vega’s body to determine a cause and manner of death.

A GoFundMe was launch by the family in an effort to raise $10,000 to cover his funeral expenses.

Colby Covington is one of the most controversial fighters in the UFC. The loudmouthed welterweight contender is set to battle former lightweight king Rafael dos Anjos for the interim welterweight championship at UFC 225 on Saturday, June 9 in Chicago. With the NHL Stanley Cup Finals well underway, we finally have the first elimination game opportunity. This series is between the Washington Capitals and the Vegas Golden Knights. After losing the first game of the series, the Capitals responded by winning the next three games to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the series. This is a must-win game for the Golden Knights who now face an elimination game for the first time in franchise history. Expect the Golden Knights to lay it all on the line with the hopes of extending their playoff lives.

Washington’s success this postseason is largely due to its goalie Braden Holtby. After not starting the first two games of the playoffs, Holtby has dominated since being inserted into the starting lineup. In 22 postseason appearances, Holtby is 15-7 while saving 92.3% of all shots faced. He also has a goals against average of 2.13 this postseason which is a true testament to his dominance in these playoffs.

After struggling in game one, Holtby has looked like the best goalie in the NHL in the last three games. Holtby has only allowed five goals in the last three games combined despite facing 81 shot attempts. That means that he is saving 93.8% of shot attempts in the last three games. After losing in the playoffs multiple seasons in a row, it appears that Holtby took those losses personally and now looks determined to bring the franchise its first Stanley Cup championship ever. Expect Holtby to play extremely well in a potential series-clinching game.

Vegas’ success has been due to its star goalie Marc-Andre Fleury. Since it is Vegas’ first official season in the NHL, the organization partook in an expansion draft during the offseason. In the draft, Vegas decided to take goalie Marc-Andre Fleury from the Pittsburgh Penguins as the team hoped that he would carry it to a potential playoff berth. Since joining Vegas, Fleury has been godly. This season, Fleury went 29-13-4 with a 2.24 goals against average. However, he has been even better in the playoffs. In 19 starts, Fleury is 13-6 with a 2.15 goals against average.

Fleury has struggled mightily so far this series as he has given up at least three goals in each of the team’s four Stanley Cup games this season. Fleury’s goals against average through those four games is 4.08 which is unacceptable for a goalie of his caliber. Fleury also possesses a save percentage of 84.5% in this series which is absolutely abysmal. However, not all the blame should be placed on Fleury. Vegas’ defense has not done him any favors as the team seems to give up a ton of odd man rushes every game. If Vegas limits the turnovers in the neutral zone and plays more conservatively, expect Fleury to play extremely well moving forward.

As for my prediction, I have to side with the Knights. Although Washington dominated this series, the Golden Knights have responded to adversity extremely well this postseason and I think that the team will come out more focused tonight. I expect Fleury to play really well as Vegas wins an extremely low scoring contest.

A man with a gun caused Hoppin Elementary in Michigan to go under a lockdown as a precaution, as confirmed by the Three Rivers Police Department. Officers were dispatched to the area, said to be near Portage Avenue and Prutzman Street.

What happened?

On Facebook, the Three Rivers Police Department, through Three River Commerical-News, issued the following statement concerning the incident:

“On 6/7/18, officers were dispatched to the report of a man with a gun in the area of Portage Ave. and Prutzman. The local elementary school, Hoppin Elementary School, was locked down as a precaution. The subject and his weapon were located. The subject was lodged at the St. Joseph County Jail. A press release will be out shortly.”

According to MLive, the subject and his weapon were located; the suspect is currently in police custody and has been placed at the local St. Joseph County Jail.

The NBA free agency period is coming up quickly, and this year is going to be crazier than most. Lebron James is a free agent this offseason, and that is going to be an adventure on its own. But instead of focusing on that, we decided to focus on all the other top free agents. So with that being said, here’s our projections for where the top NBA free agents NOT named LeBron James will sign. Note: this list only includes unrestricted free agents.

Demarcus Cousins

The Pelicans showed that they don’t need Demarcus Cousins to succeed, as they swept the Trailblazers and even beat the Warriors once during their second-round matchup. Factoring that in with the near-max contract that they gave Jrue Holiday, the Pelicans might not have a lot of room for Cousins. They also need to consider re-signing Rajon Rondo, who was instrumental in their success this year. If it comes down to a choice between Rondo and Cousins, Rondo should be the choice. That being said, Cousins definitely wants to follow the money. He might follow the money to Dallas, where Mark Cuban’s team famously missed out on Deandre Jordan a few years ago, and with another high lottery pick, Cousins could be a great addition as a veteran presence.

Chris Paul

After coming within one game of the NBA Finals, there’s no way Paul leaves Houston. The Rockets seemed to have a legitimate shot to win that series too before Paul strained a hamstring at the end of Game 5. With that being said, it would be earth-shattering if Paul left the Rockets for anywhere else. He had an incredible year in Houston, and alongside that supporting cast, Paul would be primed for another huge year.

Paul George

The writing was on the wall for a long time that George was going to end up a Laker. But now, it’s not that definite. Russell Westbrook needs all the help he can get in OKC, and George would be an instrumental piece if they want to dethrone Golden State. The Thunder are going to do everything they can to keep PG13 this offseason. Carmelo Anthony still has one more year on his deal, and he seemed to be the cause of any of the chemistry issues on the team. But keeping George would be instrumental in taking the next step to winning a championship. Will the pitch be enough? George said “We’ll see” when talking about staying with the team, but with the Lakers potentially gearing up to go after Kawhi Leonard and/or Klay Thompson next offseason, it’s very possible George stays in OKC.

Isaiah Thomas

This is the toughest one to predict, after the roller coaster ride it has been over the last year and a half for Isaiah Thomas. He went from a superstar expecting a max contract, to injured goods whose future is harder to predict than LeBron’s. He was asked about a potential return to the Celtics, and his response was “Anything’s possible” so who knows what’s in store for IT this offseason. Look for him to sign a one-year “prove it” type deal for a team that will give him an opportunity to start. If he proves that he’s healthy and can still play, he can go get a huge contract in 2019.

Deandre Jordan

Jordan has a player option that he is able to exercise for next season, but even if he doesn’t, staying with the Clippers might be the best option for him. They can pay him what he wants, and he can shine as the only real star on that team. If he were to opt out and leaves LA, keep an eye on the Boston Celtics. They wouldn’t be able to pay him what he wants, but he would have a real opportunity at winning a championship. If he opts out, he would have to decide what’s more important: money, or a championship?

Would Another NBA Finals Loss Affect Lebron James’ Legacy?

As the years go by and the youth become the adults, weed has assimilated itself more and more into everyday life, and therefore, everyday business. When I think of weed strains, the first thing that comes to mind is the 2008 stoner comedy classic Pineapple Express. In one of the earliest scenes of the movie, Saul explains to Dale how fire his newest strain of marijuana — Pineapple Express — is by only referring to previous strains that Dale had smoked.

“This is like if that Blue Oyster shit met that Afghan Kush I had – and they had a baby. And then, meanwhile, that crazy Northern Light stuff I had and the Super Red Espresso Snowflake met and had a baby. And by some miracle, those two babies met and fucked – this would the shit that they birthed.”

The strain “Super Red Espresso Snowflake” always stood out because it’s the perfect skewering of drug dealers who tried tell you what kind of strain you were buying: they were really just making shit up. However, now that legal marijuana and dispensaries exist, actual marijuana strains are more prevalent than ever, so we figured it’s time we start learning them all, one by one.

First We Feast

Johnny Knoxville is undoubtedly a legend to the millennial generation. Back before the age of political correctness was ushered in, a magical television show called Jackass existed and Knoxville was its charismatic star. However, despite how much I grew up idolizing Jackass and watching all their movies, I had absolutely NO idea that Brad Pitt was once on the show (I was only eight when this episode aired, so cut me some slack).

“Brad Pitt was just kidnapped and throw into a van,” one man told 911 “I’m really not kidding.”

As the legend goes, Johnny Knoxville bumped into Brad at Spike Jonze’s house (the director of Jackass … and Her ?!) and where he said he wanted to do something with Jackass.

However, according to Knoxville, Brad Pitt much more extreme than they originally thought.

“Well, yeah, he showed up ready. We were in these go-karts bombing the hill on Vine, and we were all like ‘oh, we really don’t want him to get hurt because he’s Brad Pitt,” Knoxville explains to Hot Ones host Sean Evans.

“But he did not care. He was ready to do it. He was the first one in the middle of the street, and we were like ‘No, no no!’, but he didn’t care.”

The month of Kanye West continues with the release of his latest project “Kids See Ghosts,” a collaboration with Kid Cudi from GOOD, Def Jam, and Wicked Awesome. The release of “Kids See Ghosts” comes not long after Kanye’s latest solo album “Ye” released as well as the Kanye-produced “Daytona” album for Pusha T. Very little is known about the project at this time, but it is highly-anticipated with the two close friends looking to change the game.

Like “Daytona” and “Ye,” this project is expected to be just seven tracks.

Late last month, Kanye announced that the “Kids See Ghosts” album would be accompanied by a short film, directed by Dexter Navy, a director who has shot music videos for artists like The Neighbourhood and ASAP Rocky.

Chef and television host Anthony Bourdain was found dead in a French hotel room at the age of 61 on Friday, June 8. According to reports, Bourdain committed suicide. Bourdain was found unresponsive by his close friend Eric Ripert, the French chef, in his hotel room Friday morning in France.

Bourdain was an American chef, author, and television personality who was a 1978 graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. Bourdain was a veteran of numerous professional kitchens, including many years as executive chef at Brasserie Les Halles. He was also known for his frequent appearances on CNN.

Bourdain’s death comes just days after New York City-based designer Kate Spade was found dead at age 55 in a bedroom of an apparent suicide.

According to CNN, Bourdain was in France working on an upcoming episode of his award-winning CNN series. The network released the following statement about Bourdain’s suicide:

“It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain. His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.”
