Early Life

The second eldest of six children, Alec Baldwin was born on April 3, 1958 in Amityville, New York. As a teen, he played football and high school and worked as a busboy at the famous disco nightclub Studio 54. He attended George Washington University where he displayed an interest in political science, but then transferred to NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, though he didn’t graduate until much later in 1994. However, he made a name for himself during his time there as a performer and even attended the esteemed Actors Studio where he studied the art of the Method .

1980-1990

Baldwin got his big break in 1980 on the medical soap drama The Doctors which ran from 1963 to 1982. His career catapulted almost immediately as he scored recurring roles on a number of TV shows, including a starring role on Knots Landing. He got his first movie role in 1987 with Forever, Lulu, a film which is remembered today solely for being his first film performance. This led Baldwin to minor roles in Beetlejuice and Working Girl before he certified his potential as a leading man in The Hunt for Red October.

In 1990, Baldwin signed on to a part in The Marrying Man. It turned out to be a fitting title as Baldwin ended up marrying his co-star Kim Basinger only a few years later. He ended the decade on a high note with his first venture as a host of Saturday Night Live. Over the coming decades, Baldwin would become a mainstay of the series and, as of 2018, holds the show’s hosting record with 17 episodes.

1991-2000

Despite confirming his high-profile status as a Hollywood hot-commodity, Baldwin chose not to rest on his laurels in the 1990s and accepted a slew of roles throughout the decade, including arguably his greatest work, the part of Blake in Glengarry Glen Ross. He also began branching out to other aspects of the entertainment industry. He wrote an episode of Law & Order and got a Tony nod for his role in a Broadway revival of A Streetcar Named Desire in 1992.

But behind all his artistic and financial successes, he began to develop a temper. The public first got a glimpse of this side of Baldwin in 1995 when he was accused of assaulting a paparazzi photographer who attempted to photograph him with his wife and newborn baby. It was the first of many controversial incidents which would dog Baldwin going into the 2000s.

2001-Present

Baldwin and Basinger divorced in 2002 which sparked a legal war between the two for custody of their child. He was very frank with the media about how stressful it was for him and his anxiety exploded in 2007 when a recording was sold to TMZ of Baldwin berating his teen daughter. Though he issued a public apology and even joked about it at his own expense later, this incident has shadowed his legacy ever since. Ironically, while his personal life was in shambles, Baldwin was in the most productive and successful phase of his career. In 2006,  he teamed with SNL alum Tina Fey to create the award-winning 30 Rock. The wild success of the show, which ran from 2006 to 2013, helped get Baldwin back on his feet and gave his public image some much-needed rehabilitation.

Since the show’s end, Baldwin has stuck mostly to comedies and minor TV appearances, culminating in his award-winning impression of President Trump that breathed new life into SNl in 2016 and has continued well into 2018. However, Baldwin may have overextended himself and has largely withdrawn from public life, both for the sake of his career and his sanity. Apart from his increasingly infrequent SNL appearances, his biggest public outlet is his Instagram account where he’s more than happy to share pictures of his happy family.

In addition to her appearance as L3-37, Lando’s droid companion, in Solo: A Star Wars Story, Waller-Bridge is a successful writer & producer. In 2016, it was announced in 2016 that Waller-Bridge would write and produce a drama television series called Killing Eve based on novels by Luke Jennings. The BBC America series stars Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer and premiered in April 2018.

Waller-Bridge was born in West London, to Michael Cyprian Waller-Bridge and Teresa Mary Waller-Bridge. She attended St Augustine’s Priory, a Catholic independent school for girls in the London Borough of Ealing, before studying at DLD College London in Marylebone, London. She then graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

She made her acting debut in 2009 when she appeared in the play Roaring Trade at Soho Theatre. She currently lives in Kensal Rise, London. She was married to Conor Woodman, a presenter and documentary filmmaker until the couple announced their divorce in 2017.

Jenna Johnson was a troupe member on Dancing With The Stars for two seasons before becoming a professional dancer on season 23 of the hit dance competition. In 2018, she returned for her second dancer as a pro in season 26 — which is a special all-athlete edition of the show — where she was paired with Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon. The duo made earned a spot in the season finale.

Before she ever made it on Dancing With The Stars, the 24-year-old was a contestant on season 10 of So You Think You Can Dance. Johnson was eliminated after reaching the Top 8.

She is currently dating professional ballroom dancer Valentin Chmerkovskiy.

On May 20th we will all be invited back into the amazing and hectic lives of The Bella Twins. Without even seeing an episode we all know we are in for some intense moments. We will get our first look how the lives of Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella have changed since welcoming Birdie into their lives. We get to see the ladies prep for their WWE returns. But maybe the hardest thing to watch will be what happened between John Cena and Nikki Bella. Over the years we have seen them grow and support each other and we were all shocked to find out they are going their separate ways. There’s a lot to expect in Season Three but let’s take a look back at the must-see moments from Seasons One and Two!

Cena House Rules

John Cena has come a long way since bursting on the WWE scene with “ruthless aggression” and then becoming The Doctor of Thuganomics. Thanks to Total Divas and Total Bellas we’ve gotten to see that the face that runs the place has come to enjoy the finer things in life. Flashy suits, fast cars, and a luxurious home are how Cena likes to spend his hard earned money. At the beginning of Season One of Total Bellas, we learned that Danial Bryan and Brie would be living with Cena and Nikki in his massive home. On their first night in their temporary abode, Cena has the entire Bella clan for a nice dinner. This is when things become interesting. He informed Brie, Bryan, the Bella’s mother Kathy Colace, their step-father and WWE personality John Laurenitis, and the Bella’s brother J.J. Garcia of the following rules for his home…

1. A formal dinner every week, usually Wednesday
2. Respect The House as if it were your own, do not leave towels around, do not leave laundry around, make your bed, etc.
3. When dinner is done, the ladies will retreat to the drawing room and the men will retreat to the cigar room
4. Every morning we will have morning coffee together
5. Every evening we will have a fire outside together
6. Trash is picked up every Monday and there are four, 64-gallon trash bins available
7. If you are going to stay up late, please text me or tell me

Now written out those seem like a list of requests by a somewhat uptight owner of the Airbnb you’re staying in. But this is John Cena saying this to a room full of other adults. And the tone he uses is almost an admonishing tone you’d use with a middle schooler. The look on Bryan’s face is priceless. You could tell right from the get-go that the humble and earth child tendencies of Bryan were not going to gel with the somewhat more glamorous tendencies of Cena. If you get a chance to watch the episode please do so, the awkwardness is palpable.

Nikki’s Recovery

A theme that is prevalent in the Total Bellas series is Nikki’s recovery and rebounding from her neck injury. The show opens with her wearing a neck brace that sticks around all the way through to Brie’s retirement match at Wrestlemania at the end of Season One. Season Two spends a lot of time focusing on Nikki’s return to action in a mixed-tag match with John Cena, against real-life rival and fellow Total Divas castmate, Maryse and her husband The Miz. In this time we got to see a side of Nikki that was both refreshing and wonderful. Nikki and her sister Brie were hired at a time when women weren’t always given a job due to their wrestling experience. This is not to take away from the women who performed at the peak of the “Divas” division but with the rebranding of the division, to have the women called Superstars just like the men and be rid of the “Divas” moniker, many thought that Nikki Bella may not be able to keep up. Well, they were wrong. Nikki proved that she wanted to be part of the Women’s Revolution just as much as the new girls and showed that she was able to put in the work. Nikki Bella could have gone quietly into the night and focus on more projects with the E! Network and things like her wine company with her sister. Instead, she opted to fight for an in-ring return and put her body on the line. Its something that makes the show a great watch and endears Nikki to even the pickiest of fans.

Brie’s Labor

In Season One we see Brie calling it a career (for the time, we all saw Royal Rumble 2018) so that she could focus on beginning her family with then retired husband, Daniel Bryan. This becomes the focus of Season Two. If Nikki and Cena are the glamour of Total Bellas and arguably the heart of the show, Brie and Bryan are the soul. The two like to live smaller and more humble than their dynamic counterparts. In the show, we take the journey of Brie being pregnant and how Bryan’s new role as SmackDown Live GM affect their lives. She debates with Bryan about her revealing but artistic maternity photos, they argue about how a mother should act while pregnant (which will lead to our next moment…), and the season ends with a very open and unglamorized birth of their daughter, Birdie. We are welcomed into their world to build a family and are given a very honest view of it. It is never spun as perfect but it is incredibly refreshing to see the couple build and grow together as they add a new member to their family. It is a wonderful partner to the storyline of Nikki’s neck.

Nikki Drinks Wine While…Pregnant?

Ye,s we all know that John Cena never wants to have kids. But that doesn’t stop Nikki from role-playing to get a rise out of people. In Season Two there is an episode where the cast debates whether or not it is ok for a mother to try a taste of wine. Whatever your belief is, there is a representation of it in this episode. Nikki believes it’s fine, while Bryan is staunchly against it. This is believable because Nikki really loves her wine and Bryan literally doesn’t drink alcohol. It also addresses the fact that even though it is their child, it is Brie’s body. Bryan also brings up the fact that it might look bad for a mother to drink wine. When Brie ultimately decides not to have any wine, Nikki decides she is going to see how people react to it. So what does she do? She puts a fake baby belly on and goes to a vineyard to drink in public… just to see how people react. As she’s drinking wine we see a group of ladies staring. Nikki decides to walk right up to them and ask them their thoughts. They ladies are very nice about it… but it could be because a bunch of cameras were shoved in their face…

Daniel Bryan’s Mental Health

A lot has been reported in the WWE media about the return of Daniel Bryan to in-ring action. It seems amazing that he is back and we all but reserved ourselves to the fact that he was done. Though with all of this talk about his physical health, Total Bellas took a different approach, putting a spotlight on his mental state. What we got was a beautiful and honest look at a person struggling. Bryan’s career was taken away from him so suddenly that he barely had the ability to cope. He reveals his family has a history of depression and that his current life changes are putting him in a bad place. At one point in the show, he must leave Cena’s home and even misses the wedding of Johnny Laurinitis and Kathy Colace due to his stress. The amazing part of this part of the show is the support he receives from his family, especially that of his wife Brie. In modern media and entertainment, we often hear of how stars are struggling when it’s too late. It is extremely refreshing to be able to see someone the fanbase loves so much have so much support through a difficult time. It is an inspirational narrative to fans who look up to the Bellas and Bryan as a performer and I am happy that it was represented in the show.

Total Bellas  Season Three is sure to have some twists and turns but we should all be excited to have these two ladies back on TV. There will definitely be some heartbreak on this season but knowing the Bellas and their family it won’t be without some crazy moments. Check out Total Bellas on the E! Monday Night Raw returns stateside after an extended European tour with the superstars looking to gain momentum for the Money In The Bank PPV. Raw may have their men set for their half the MITB Ladder match, but there are still two slots available for the women to claim. Also, what awaits our champions now that everyone’s back in the same place? Raw is sure to build tension tonight for MITB on June 17.

Last week Sami Zayn decided to express his grievances against Bobby Lashley. Calling out his promo about his family, his style, and claimed that when Lashley attacked him, he gave him vertigo. How does Zayn expect to top his lengthy promo? He has invited Lashley’s sisters to the show tonight. Is it ever a good idea to bring family into an argument? Zayn might be finding out the hard way that he has made a colossal mistake, or has he actually found something he can expose about the big man?

Roman Reigns is angry, and there is blood in the water. Two weeks ago Jinder Mahal cost The Big Dog his qualifier for the MITB Ladder match, so Reign made it clear last week he wanted retribution. After Kurt Angle came out to say there was nothing he could do, Reigns took vengeance into his own hands. Reigns assaulted The Modern Day Maharaja multiple times backstage, injuring his ribs in the process. Reigns has already speared Mahal through a “wall” and cost him his qualifier as well, is there more waiting for him tonight on Raw?

The men may be set for their MITB Ladder match, but the women still have two spots up for grabs. So far Ember Moon and Alexa Bliss have claimed the first two spots. We know that it won’t be Nia Jax or Ronda Rousey but the Raw Women’s roster is stacked so it could be anyone. The division has been putting on stellar matches so whoever wants a spot is going to put on a heck of a match to earn their spot.

The tag division on the red brand might finally be on the up and up. The champions, who go by The Deleters of Worlds, are finding chemistry together that is helping both of the superstars find new life. The newly rebranded Miztourage, now going by “The B-Team” because you know, they’re the best, have emerged as a possible new gem of the tag division, getting a victory over Breezango. Can they build on their first win as their own group?

In the absence of Brock Lesnar and the premiere title on Raw, the other champions have stepped up to create an exciting landscape in the void. Seth Rollins has become a true fighting Champion. We have seen him defend his title so much the past two months that it feels he has already surpassed Lesnar’s total title defenses in his 400+ days as Universal Champion. Who will answer Rollins challenge tonight? Will we finally see Nia Jax come face to face with Ronda Rousey before their Title match at MITB? It’s good to see some of the titles being represented every week on the flagship show.

A Nevada high school teacher has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a student. Maren Oates, 33, was employed at the Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology in Reno, Nevada. She was placed on administrative leave and arrested on Thursday for allegedly having sex with a pupil. Her bail has been set at $20,000.

The school district released a statement, informing the public that an investigation is ongoing. According to the statement, “Washoe County School Police are investigating allegations that a District employee engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a student. The employee in question has been placed on administrative leave.”

The statement concluded with, “The safety and security of our students and staff is our number-one priority. The District cannot discuss personnel issues.”

Maren Oates was placed on administrative leave right after allegations were revealed accusing her of having sex with a student. The Reno Gazette-Journal labelled the school where she worked as a “an elite Washoe County high school.”

Authorities were reportedly alerted of the crime by staff members who informed police that Oates was having an inappropriate relationship with a pupil. However, only a few details relating to the allegations have been released to the public.

On Thursday, May 17, 2018, she was arrested and placed on $20,000 bail relating to the allegations of a sexual relationship with a student, according to jail records.

Who Is Maren Oates?

Maren Oates was a former graphic design teacher at the Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology in Reno, Nevada. Her discipline of education included the subject of communication arts and media, which she taught at the Reno high school. She attended college and graduated from the University of Reno before becoming a teacher.

Oates is now embedded in controversy as she has been accused of having sex with a student at the school where she was employed. The 33-year-old now-former school teacher has been arrested for the alleged sexual relationship with a pupil, and her bail has been set at $20,000.

According to her Facebook page, Oates is an avid runner. One photo showed Oates at an adventure replay run in Reno, Nevada. A different social media photo showed this educator at a half-marathon.

Her Facebook page states that she lives in Reno, Nevada, but originates from her hometown of Aurora, Colorado. On her page, she describes herself as the Distributor at SeneGence International, Teacher at Washoe County School District.

On her Twitter page, she wrote about school activities. “Delirious after talent show practice? Yes. Just having fun,” Oates wrote on Twitter. “But we’ve got an AMAZING Talent Show full of TRAILBLAZER greatness. See ya next Tuesday 11/21!”

Oates has been complimented many times from her Facebook friends for having movie star good looks. The former educator has plenty of photos of herself pouting at the camera while wearing plenty of make-up.

“You look like a movie star. ,” said one of Oates’ FB friends beneath the photo of her wearing sunglasses and glossy red lipstick. “Oh… you are too sweet hun! Thx,” Oates wrote back. Another friend wrote, “Hollywood, I love you!”

On another photo a friend of Oates wrote, “Ur so beautiful inside and out. Count ur blessings because you are truly loved and blessed.”

Another friend wrote, “You couldn’t be more beautiful!”

According to the school’s website, the Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology is “an advanced career technical education academy within the Washoe County School District. The Miss USA 2018 competition took place Monday, May 21 at at the Hirsch Memorial Coliseum in Shreveport, Louisiana. When it was all said and done, it was Miss Nebraska USA 2018 Sarah Rose Summers who came away with the coveted crown. Sarah Rose Summers succeeded 2017 winner Miss District of Columbia Kára McCullough.

The Top 10 finalists in 2018 were Miss Florida Génesis Dávila, Miss Nebraska Sarah Rose Summers, Miss Nevada Carolina Urrea, Miss North Carolina Caelynn Miller-Keyes, Miss South Dakota Madison Nipe, Miss California Kelley Johnson, Miss Georgia Marianny Egurrola, Miss Maine Marina Gray, Miss New Jersey Alexa Noone, and Miss Tennessee Alexandra Harper.

Miss Maryland Brittinay Nicolette, Miss Massachusetts Allissa Latham, Miss Michigan Elizabeth Johnson, Miss Oregon Toneata Morgan, and Miss Texas Logan Lester were eliminated in the Top 15.

The Top 3 finishers were Miss Nebraska Sarah Rose Summers, Miss Nevada Carolina Urrea, and Miss North Carolina Caelynn Miller-Keyes. When it was time to announce the winner, Miss Nevada Carolina Urrea was named the second runner-up. First runner-up went to Miss North Carolina Caelynn Miller-Keyes, while the Miss USA 2018 crown was awarded to Miss Nebraska Sarah Rose Summers.

Who is Sarah Rose Summers?

Summers was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on November 9, 1994. She was raised in the city of Papillion and graduated from Papillion-La Vista South High School. Summers was a high achiever in college, receiving two degrees with honors from Texas Christian University, where she majored in child development and strategic communication, while minoring in business.

The beautiful young Summers started off her career in beauty pageantry in 2012. That year, she crowned the Miss Nebraska Teen USA. She represented her state at Miss Teen USA 2012, but failed to place in the competition. After this loss, Summers didn’t compete in a beauty pageant for about four years.

Summers competed in the Miss Nebraska USA competition in 2016, and received the title of second runner-up. In 2018, she was finally crowned Miss Nebraska USA. During the competition, she represented her city of birth, Omaha. She was crowned the winner by outgoing titleholder Jasmine Fuelberth, who Summers crowned as Miss Teen USA in 2013 following her own reign in 2012.

On Monday, May 21, 2018, Summers won the title of Miss USA. With this win, Summers is the first woman from Nebraska to win the competition and the eleventh former Miss Teen USA contestant to be crowned Miss USA. During the competition, Summers, along with two of the finalists, were asked to write on a blank sign a message for a hypothetical march. The winner’s (Summers) sign encouraged people to “speak your voice”.

Emergency response teams are responding to Chesapeake Municipal Airport for a reported plane crash.

A plane crash has been reported at Chesapeake Municipal Airport, according to Virginia State Police. State Police received a call around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday about the incident. The Chesapeake Fire Department tweeted that “units are on the scene of a plane crash at Chesapeake Municipal Airport” and that limited information is limited at this time.

Chesapeake Regional Airport is a public use airport located in the city of Chesapeake, Virginia and serving the Hampton Roads area. The airport is 12 nautical miles south of the central business district of Norfolk, Virginia. Although most U.S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for the FAA and IATA, this airport is assigned CPK by the FAA but has no designation from the IATA.

Chesapeake Regional Airport covers an area of 430 acres at an elevation of 19 feet above mean sea level. It has one asphalt paved runway designated 5/23 which measures 5,500 by 100 feet (1,676 x 30 m). For the 12-month period ending March 30, 2012, the airport had 35,361 aircraft operations, an average of 97 per day: 96% general aviation, 3% air taxi and 1% military. At that time there were 94 aircraft based at this airport: 84% single-engine, 9% multi-engine, 4% jet, 2% ultralight and 1% helicopter.

Summers said she would encourage people to “speak your voice” with her sign. Urrea vowed to work to eliminate homelessness. Miller-Keyes spoke about sexual assault prevention, saying she would march for “your body, your rights.”

During her answer, Summers also drew one of the biggest cheers of the evening when she called on people to “listen to each other,” saying that was something people in the U.S. needed to do.

The evening also touched on one of the year’s biggest themes — the #MeToo movement that has focused attention on sexual harassment and sexual assault. In a video montage, the contestants talked about particular #MeToo moments they had experienced and women’s empowerment.

Summers was born on November 4, 1994, in Omaha, Nebraska, and grew up in Papillion in the Omaha–Council Bluffs metropolitan area. She graduated from Papillion-La Vista South High School before earning two degrees cum laude from Texas Christian University in child development and strategic communication, with a minor in business. While in college, she became a sister of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Prior to becoming Miss USA, Summers worked as a certified child life specialis.

Between wrapping up the final(?) season of top-rated CBS comedy The Big Bang Theory and her engagement and upcoming nuptials to boyfriend Karl Cook, there’s a lot going on for American actress Kaley Cuoco in 2018. 1995-2006

Cuoco began her acting and modeling career when she was just 6 years old, first appearing in Quicksand: No Escape (1992). Her first featured role was in the sci-fi thriller Virtuosity (1995) alongside Denzel Washington and Russel Crowe when she was just ten years old.

Cuoco had another breakout role as young witch Billie in the final season of Charmed (1998-2006) followed by her being cast as Penny on the Big Bang Theory (2007-), now the role she is most recognized for. Penny plays the bubbly, social foil to the awkward nerds of the main cast, especially her neighbors Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki). Both Penny and Cuoco had an on-off relationship with Galecki and his character, though the actors amicably broke theirs off for good in 2010.

While Cuoco had other roles since joining Big Bang, primarily in television, advertisements, and films, the CBS sitcom has been the main focal point of her career thus far. But with the 12 season supposedly being the last, it’s likely the 32-year old actress will be able to expand her career and focus on her passion for animal welfare long with her soon-to-be husband.

Who doesn’t love an underdog? They are one of the best reasons that make sports genuine and full possibility. But being an underdog in sport, there is a certain aura that surrounds a player or team. How it all started, how they accomplished the unthinkable, and just how special it was to reach the pinnacle. Ever since sports entered the public eye, there have been a number of underdogs that beat the odds and wrote scripts that some say, even Hollywood couldn’t have written. Let’s take a look at the biggest underdogs in sports history.

Vegas Golden Knights

Starting with the most recent, the Vegas Golden Knights are still writing one of the greatest stories in sports.

The old saying in Las Vegas is, “Don’t bet against the house.”And the truth is, nobody should bet against Vegas right now. Nobody in their right mind could have foreseen how unprecedented the Knights run to the top has been.

Vegas was awarded an NHL franchise back on June 22, 2016, and it took them less than two years to completely change the landscape of hockey.  Only two other expansion teams in hockey history, the 1918 Toronto Arenas, and 1968 St. Louis Blues, have reached the Stanley Cup Finals in their inaugural season. Aside from them rewriting the record books, the fact that they have accomplished so much in such a short amount of time, also adds to the gravity of just how special this type of story is.

Bringing a city together in the aftermath of unspeakable tragedy and turning that city into a premier destination for a game experience, significantly speaks to how special and how remarkable this franchise has become.

An expansion team expected to finish at the bottom of the league. Instead, a top-three record in the league, Pacific Division champions, 12 wins their first 15 playoff games and as of yesterday, Western Conference champions, and now just four wins from winning the Stanley Cup. There are no words left to describe how much more incredible the Golden Knights story can get.

Already writing the most unheralded sports story in ages, Vegas has become one of the top underdogs of all time.

Leicester City

Before the Vegas Golden Knights stole the hearts of sports fans this season, Leicester City Football Club shocked the world with their unthinkable 2015-16 Premier League Championship win.

Up until the 2015-16 season, Leicester City had fallen on hard times. Just before the end of the 14-15 campaign, the club was on the verge of being relegated having on 19 points in 29 matches. In early April they were seven points away from safety. Leicester City would win seven of their final nine matches to finish in 14th place with 41 points. Some describe that turnaround as one of the greatest escapes from relegation in Premier League history.

But Leicester City’s story was only beginning.

In late June, manager Nigel Pearson was fired and replaced with former Chelsea manager, Claudio Ranieri. Under Ranieri, Leicester got off to an exceptional start. On December 19th, exactly one year to the day they bottomed out, the club defeated Everton 3-2 to take the top spot among the Premier League standings. A few months later, Leicester’s magical run continued when they beat Sunderland 2-0 coupled with Tottenham defeating Manchester United, qualifying them for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.

On May 2, Leicester City won the Premier League title after Tottenham blew a 2-0 lead to Chelsea.

Leicester City’s rise to the top is considered the greatest in sports for several reasons. A long shot at 5,000-1 odds when the season began, nearly escaping relegation the year prior, and the end result as the top club in British football, their underdog nature will never be duplicated.

2004 Boston Red Sox

In baseball lore, and sports for that matter, the magnitude of the 2004 Boston Red Sox run to their first World Series title in 86 years might never be matched.

86 years of torment, curses, and missed opportunities were all staring the Red Sox and their fans in their face when they faced their most hated rival, the New York Yankees, in the American League Championship Series. Just one year earlier, the Sox had their hearts ripped out of them by those same Yankees, blowing a lead in game seven, ending in Aaron Boone’s walk-off winning home run in the 11th inning. During the regular season, Boston was neck and neck with the Yankees for tops in the AL East and played them tight all season. But even though they finished 3.0 games out of the division — which the Yanks won — a showdown in the playoffs seemed to be inevitable.

After sweeping the Angels in the ALDS, the stage was set for the Red Sox and Yankees to meet for a chance to go to the World Series.

The first three games were as discouraging and scripted as you can get for Red Sox nation, including a crushing 19-8 loss in game three. Now down 3-0, everyone thought it was over. But then, history altered. Boston took game four after coming back against Yankees closer Mariano Rivera in the ninth sending the game to extras, leading to David Ortiz hitting a two-run walk-off homer. Ortiz played hero again in game five when he had the walk-off single to send the series back to New York.

Back in New York for game six, Curt Schilling put on a performance for the ages, still remembered as the “Bloody Sock Game”. In game seven, the Sox completed the most epic comeback in sports history. They won 10-3 sending them to the World Series for the first time in 17 years and finally got the better of the Yankees.

Boston made easy work of the St. Louis Cardinals in the Fall Classic, sweeping them 4-0 and winning the World Series for the first time in over three-quarters of a century and reversing the “Curse of The Bambino”.

What the Red Sox did for their franchise and the city of Boston will never stop being talked about. Their comeback is the stuff of legends and role of the underdog, will never be discredited.

1982-83 NC State Men’s Basketball Team

Still, described as one of the biggest upsets in college basketball history, the 1983 North Carolina State men’s basketball team was the definition of an underdog.

Headed by the late, great Jim Valvano, the Wolfpack did rank as the number 19 team in the nation but weren’t given many expectations. In their first game, they lost their captain Dereck Whittenburg to a foot injury that would force him out the next 17 games. When they began conference play, NC State had already suffered ten losses. Knowing they would be able to qualify for the NCAA tournament by winning the ACC, the Wolfpack won their final three games (Wake Forest, North Carolina, Virginia), giving them the conference title.

Based in the West Region of the tourney, things weren’t going to get any easier for the Pack,

Stacked in a region with UCLA, UNLV, and rival Virginia, the Wolfpack as the number-six seed clawed and fought their way to the regional final. They got past Western Conference champ Pepperdine in double overtime for the right to play UNLV. They would defeat UNLV and were set to face second-seeded Utah. NC State was again victorious, which set up a rematch with Virginia for a chance to go to the Final Four. They would defeat Virginia sending them to the Final Four in Albuquerque.

With a chance to get to play for a National Championship, the Pack ousted Georgia in the semifinals. The win set up a showdown with the heavily favored Houston Cougars for the title.

NC State and Houston traded blows until late in the game. The game came down to the final seconds. Whittenburg took a shot with under four seconds left that was going to fall short. Battling Hakeem Olajuwon, NC State center Lorenzo Charles went up for the shot and with two hands, put it in the basket. The bucket won the game for the Wolfpack their first National Championship since 1974 and created an upset for the ages.

The NC State team from 1983 is remembered on several platforms.

From the coach to the players to the legendary opponent, that underdog Wolfpack squad will always rank in the top-tier.

1980 USA Hockey Team

You can never mention sports and underdogs in the same sentence without referring the Miracle on Ice.

The Miracle on Ice, of course, is the rag-tag group of college kids who beat the Soviets in ice hockey in the 1980 Winter Olympics. It had been 20 years since the United States won gold in ice hockey in the Olympics leading up to the games in Lake Placid.

During those two decades, Russia, then known as the Soviet Union, had become the greatest and most feared hockey nation in the world. Everyone was expecting them to run roughshod through the competition at Lake Placid, except U.S. head coach Herb Brooks. Brooks began building a team in the summer of 1979, which he felt could finally beat the Soviets at their own game. When the Olympics finally arrived in February, no one knew what to expect from the Americans.

In group play, USA tied with Sweden in their first game on a late goal with the extra attacker. That dramatic finish set the U.S. on a crash course to meet with the Russians. They defeated Czechoslovakia 7-3, Norway 5-1, Romania 7-2, and West Germany 4-2. With a 4-0-1 record, the Americans advanced to the medal round.

To get to the gold medal game, it was the USA against the Soviets.

In without a doubt the most memorable game in hockey history, the Americans trailed twice to the Soviets, but their belief never wavered. Early in the third, Mark Johnson scored to tie the game at 3. A few minutes later, captain Mike Eruzione scored the biggest goal in USA hockey history, giving his team a 4-3 lead. As the clock ran down to the final seconds, a dream became a reality. When the final buzzer sounded, the U.S. had knocked off the Soviets and advanced to play for a gold medal.

Broadcaster Al Michaels famous line, “Do you believe in miracles? Yes!” still sends chills down the spine of not just every American hockey fan, but every hockey fan to this day.

The Americans would claim the gold medal a few days later defeating Finland, finishing the biggest underdog story in sports history. There will never, ever be another team that resembles the 1980 Miracle on Ice team. They brought a country in turmoil together and shocked themselves, and the world over.

The greatest underdog sports will ever see, HANDS DOWN.

The tale of the underdog has existed and will exist for as long as there are competitive sports. These are just a few of these stories that sports have given us, but rest assured there are still plenty waiting to be written.

Well in the first trade for the Han Solo comic series it is revealed that the smuggler was married once before… to Sana Starros. Though Han vehemently denied it to Leia, who was standing next to him when Starros showed up, she was intent on finding him. What con were they pulling that the guise of being married was needed? Han Once Worked For The Empire

In Han’s early years he tried to find a way out of his old life. What did he try? He joined the Imperial Navy! Yep, everyone’s favorite rogue was a no good imp.

In the original canon, this is where he met Chewbacca, freeing him from Imperial slavers. This is why Chewbacca owed him a life debt. It is very likely that in the new movie their origin will follow a similar storyline. But can you picture it? Han Solo in one of those stuffy Imperial Officer uniforms?

He Runs Races Post Rebellion

Han still has the need for speed and adventure even after his tenure as an officer in the Rebel Alliance. In the book Bloodlines by Claudia Gray, it is revealed that Han spends most of his time off-world coordinating Sabre races and cultivating young and upcoming pilots.

Even in times of peace when you’re a hero of the Galatic Civil War, you must yearn for some adventure I guess, especially if you’re Han Solo.

He Loves Giving Nicknames

In the much-maligned TV Holiday special, we learn that Chewbacca has a family. We meet his wife, son, and father. Their names are Mallatobuck, Lumpawaroo, and Attichitcuk.

Now we know that Han likes to give nicknames, with the loving monicker he gave his co-pilot. But what did he call the rest of Chewie’s family? Well, his wife was given the elegant moniker of Malla… but the other boys? They were called Lumpy and Itchy… Yes, those were the names he gave two Wookies. Chewie, Lumpy, and Itchy sound like three symptoms you have to tell your doctor about.

Recent book Aftermath: Life Debt by Chuck Wendig confirmed that Chewbacca does have a son in the new canon, so maybe we’ll get more Lumpy in the future…

Early Years

Life wasn’t always so easy for Modrić. Born on September 9, 1985, in Zadar, Croatia, he, unfortunately, had to endure being a child of the Croatian War of Independence. Modrić started to gain a lot of attention from the youth teams in Croatia due to his excellent touch on the ball, but he was tiny and short, and often was told that he had to be stronger if he wanted to play at a higher level. Around the time he was 12, Modrić began to contemplate quitting the game altogether. Thankfully, the head of Zadar’s youth academy, Tomislav Basic talked him out of it.

Shortly after, Dinamo Zagreb, Croatia’s top club witnessed the young Croatian boy play and quickly sought to pick him up. At this same time, Modrić made his debut for Croatia’s under-15s team. In 2001, he became an official player for Zagreb but because the team didn’t think he was strong enough physically, they loaned him out to another club in the Bosnian league, Zrinjski Mostar. In the 2004/2005 season, Zagreb once again put Modrić out on loan since they still didn’t think he was ready, but this time he was placed with club team, Inter Zapresic.

2005-2008

After his time growing as a player with Zapresic, Zagreb fully took Modrić on board in 2005 and set him up with a 10-year contract. Modrić did nothing but impress and went on to become a three-time Croatian League winner and the recipient of many player of the year trophies. All this success brought plenty of outside attention.

Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona were all heavily considering him in 2008. Barcelona took it the furthest, meeting with Modrić and discussing his potential; however, Barcelona then failed to give him an offer. Luckily, Tottenham was of a differing opinion and in the same year on April 26, Modrić was signed on with the team. He made his first debut for the Premier League on August 12, 2008.

2008-Present

After four outstanding seasons with the Spurs, Modrić then transferred to Real Madrid on August 27, 2012. He originally signed a five-year contract for £33 million, but his contract has since been renewed until 2020.

The midfielder has continued to impress. He won Croatian Footballer of the Year in 2007, 2008 and 2011. In 2016 and 2017, he was awarded a spot on UEFA’s Team of the Year. Dylan Pietrs, a 21-year-old University of Oregon student, was found dead in his one-man tent set up in a national park campground on the shores of Shasta Lake on Saturday, May 19.

Pietrs, a 21-year-old business major at the University of Oregon, was found unresponsive Saturday, May 19, in his tent at the Gooseneck Campground at Shasta Lake near Redding. While the lake is known as a party destination for college kids, authorities said it is unknown at this time whether the student’s death was related to alcohol consumption.

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office said that Pietrs was seen drinking through the day on Friday, May 18, Friday before heading to his tent alone. At this time, authorities do not suspect foul play.

After receiving reports around 9 a.m. of a young male not breathing, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Boating Safety Unit headed to the scene. Deputies said attempts were made to resuscitate the man, and Cal Fire personnel pronounced the man dead. The Gooseneck Campground is on the upper Sacramento arm of the lake.

An investigator with Shasta County Coroner Investigator and additional boating safety personnel found that the man had consumed alcohol Friday before he headed to his tent in the early evening. Other campers, who were also identified as University of Oregon students, found the man in a sleeping bag inside a small tent on shore Saturday morning.

There are no signs of foul play and the man’s death has not been deemed suspicious, deputies said. They added that it’s unknown if alcohol consumption contributed to his death.

Pietrs’ cause of death will be determined upon post-mortem examination.

31 years on from his professional soccer debut, Jurgen Klopp is now the manager of Liverpool F.C. Born on June 16, 1967, Klopp joined his first professional team, 1. FC Pforzheim in 1987. He was a defender and striker for five teams throughout his career until he made the switch to managing in 2001. Klopp managed at Mainz until 2008 before making a move to Borussia Dortmund. After seven successful years in Dortmund, Klopp moved to England to become the manager of Liverpool FC.

Dawnta Harris, 16, has been identified as the person in custody for the suspected murder of a Baltimore Police Officer that was responding to a report of suspicious activity and a burglary in progress in the Perry Hall area of Baltimore County. Harris was arrested on suspicion of killing Officer Amy Caprio, a Baltimore Police Officer, and will be charged as an adult. He has been charged with first-degree murder.

According to authorities, Harris has a history of grand theft auto and has been arrested multiple times in the past. Harris and the other suspects fled the scene and were at large, but all four have since been taken into custody.

Caprio was shot on Linwen Way before being taken to Medstar Franklin Square. She was pronounced dead a short time after arriving.

The documents say Caprio was responding to a call around 2 p.m. Monday on Linwen Way to investigate a suspicious vehicle in the area. A 911 caller reported a black Jeep Wrangler near her home, and said three “suspicious subjects got out of it and were walking around homes.” The caller said then said the suspects had broken into the home, and that the first arriving officer was on the ground after confronting the driver of the Jeep.

The Jeep was later found abandoned nearby, in front of a home in the 9500 block of Dawnvale Road in Nottingham, and officers located Harris about a block from where the Jeep was parked, the documents said. Harris was later interviewed at police headquarters, where he admitted to investigators that he was sitting in the driver seat while the three other suspects committed a burglary.

He told officers he saw Caprio drive up the block and that she got out of her car and demanded that the get out of the Jeep. Instead, he “drove at the officer,” the documents said.

Harris was scheduled to appear in Towson district court for a bail review hearing on Tuesday, May 22. Harris lives at 1600 block of Vincent Court, in the Gilmor Homes complex in West Baltimore.
