Maria Fernanda Mora Instagram: Best Photos & Must-See Pictures

Maria Fernanda Mora may become more of a familiar face and name on your television when the 2018 FIFA World Cup officially kicks off next month in Russia. The FOX Sports Mexico reporter first became a household name earlier this year when she was covering the aftermath of Chivas Guadalajara’s win over Toronto FC in the CONCACAF Champions League and interviewing a group of rowdy fans.

During the live broadcast, Mora became visibly upset when the Chivas fans behind her reportedly started pinching and harassing her.

It was then that the clip went viral because Mora reacted by turning around and defending herself by smacking the offender with her microphone. The cheers from the crowd became silent as everyone dispersed.

“What happened to me at dawn on Thursday, happens to thousands of women every day in public spaces,” she said following the incident, via The Sun. “The difference is that it happened to me during a live link on television and I decided to defend myself.

“My reaction is what turned the fact into something viral.”

You have to respect Mora for standing up for herself and sending a positive message. It’s also great that she did not allow that to deter her from continuing to reporting for FOX Sports Mexico. We look forward to seeing what is next for Mora during the biggest stage the soccer world has to offer.

Stabbing at Sonoma State University Leaves One Dead

An unidentified “college-aged” man was stabbed to death inside a Sonoma State University dorm on Sunday, May 14.

According to officials, one person is dead and another male suspect has been arrested after the stabbing that occurred just before 6 p.m. in the Sauvignon Village residential community, a freshman dorm at Sonoma State University. Police say that both the victim and suspect both are of college age, however, they would not confirm if they were Sonoma State students. However, NBC reports that students interviewed in the area believe the victim was a student at the school.

Paul Gullixson, a spokesman for Sonoma State University, said that there is “no risk to students” and that they “have somebody we believe is the potential suspect.”

via CBS:

A Sonoma State student named Kyle Stickels told KPIX 5 he believes he may have seen the assailant just after the incident happened.

“We heard some screaming and I ran outside to see what was going on, because it was obvious; no joking around, screaming,” said Stickels. “I looked around and there was a guy. He started walking down the stairs. And I looked at him and he came around and then I saw the right side of him. And his arm was all bloody and he was carrying a knife. And I just kind of stared at him. And he looked at me and he said, ‘I was attacked.’ And at that point, me and my friends started telling everyone to get inside.”

The university is offering grief counselors to assist students. The homicide is the first on the campus in the 57-year history of Sonoma State University. The Petaluma Police Department is assisting in the investigation. Authorities have yet to identify the victim or the suspect.

Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity Getting Ready For ‘Gear Up Florida 2018’

The Pi Kappa Phi fraternity in West Miami-Dade, Florida is getting ready for this year’s “Gear Up Florida,” an 850-mile charity ride that will take cyclists up to Tallahassee, the state capital. This will be around the 11th year the fraternity has become involved with the event, which aims to raise money for people with disabilities.

What will this year’s event be like?

The event is essentially a celebration of all that is Florida. It starts off on the shores of Miami, goes through the local orange fields, hits the Gulf Coast, includes a ride through Orlando, hits the Atlantic coast and ends in the State Capitol Complex in Tallahassee.

However, the event is more than just a bike ride. As the official website for this year’s event explains it is meant to both raise money and set an example:

“Gear Up Florida’s programming is what makes this event so unique. Every event is centered on the mission of the trip. Some days team members will visit three different organizations that support people with disabilities. Seeing the direct impact on the people they raise money for is very emotional for team members.”

“You cannot help, but be touched by the gratitude and kindness that is shown along Gear Up Florida. When the trip is complete, team members always look back and it is the friendships made with people with disabilities that have the most impact on each man.”

People who’d like to help with the event can also donate here.

Just what is Gear Up Florida?

According to Ability Experience, the event has taken place since 1997 and over 300 Pi Kappa Phis have helped out. Every year, the team raises over $80,000 to help people with disabilities.

You may have noticed that the bike ride is essentially a tour of the Sunshine State. There’s a reason for that! The point of the event is to reach as many people as possible throughout Florida. Passing the word throughout Florida by using local newspapers, radio and television, civic groups and community leaders, the event even comes with its own tagline:

“The best two weeks of programming The Ability Experience has to offer.”

Nicole Arbour: Hottest Photos Of The YouTube Star

Nicole Arbour is a YouTube star you may have heard of for all of the wrong reasons. The online personality, who is a former cheerleader for the Toronto Raptors, has also dabbled in acting, dancing, singing, choreography, and comedy, but she is most known for her online controversies.

Arbour first drew online criticism in September 2015 when she uploaded a viral video titled “Dear Fat People.” The video endorsed fat-shaming and was temporarily removed from YouTube. Many prominent figures spoke up about the nature of the video and used it to open up about their own bullying stories. Arbour’s video led to her firing from a job where she served as a choreographer for an anti-bullying video for kids.

She defended the video by claiming it was simply “satire.” She said during an interview with TIME, “I find seeing someone’s head being blown off offensive … I find children starving in a country with more than enough food offensive. I find women’s bodies being mutilated for religious purposes, that is offensive to me. But words and satire I don’t find offensive.”

Arbour was also the subject of domestic abuse allegations from fellow YouTube personality Matthew Santoro, who claimed he had been in a physically and emotionally abusive relationship.

Most recently, Arbour gave her spin on the popular Childish Gambino “This Is America” video.

The video drew criticism for colonizing Gambino’s powerful video and important message which detailed the struggles of the black experience in America. Many people wondered why Arbour felt the need to give her perspective on the narrative and downplay the serious race issues the video addressed.

Arbour was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1985.

Shannon Woodward is an American actress that you probably know best for her role as Elsie in Westworld. She has been acting for years now, but her appearance as one of the lead programmers for the murder robot theme park in Westworld has become known as her breakthrough role.

Woodward was born in Phoenix, Arizona on December 17th, 1984. She’s acted from a young age, with her first official on-screen role coming on Nickelodeon’s Clarissa Explains It All. She played the recurring role of Missy.

Between 2000 and 2007, she would play a variety of small roles on a variety of shows including The Drew Carey Show, Grounded For Life, and Malcolm In The Middle. She would get the role of Di Di Malloy on the FX series The Riches, in which she played a member of an American family of Irish travelers. Over the course of the next few years, Woodward would portray many different characters and small-time roles on TV and in movies, including big-name shows like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, ER, and Psych.

When she got the role of Elsie in Westworld, Woodward returned to TV screens everywhere in a big way. Originally playing a supporting character that mysteriously disappeared in the first season, she has returned for the second season and looks to have become an integral role in the plot going forward.

She has since appeared in shows such as Last Week Tonight with John OliverDrunk History, and Portlandia. It has also been announced that she will provide the motion capture and voice for a character in the follow up to 2013’s hit video The Last Of Us.

So TV, movies, and now video games? Looks like Shannon is starting to become a triple threat and let’s just say that we are here for it.

Nicole Arbour is a controversial YouTube star who is constantly pushing the limits and often finds her videos receiving public backlash for going over the line. That was once again the case in May, when the comedian, singer, and actor decided to give her spin on Childish Gambino’s popular video for “This Is America.” Arbour attempted to turn the video into a feminist anthem of sorts, but it fell flat and the reception was nearly all negative.

It wasn’t the first time that Arbour has been on the wrong side of an internet mob, either. And, quite frankly, she often deserves the criticism for the poorly thought out videos.

Take “Dear Fat People,” for example. Some of you can already see where this is going.

In September 2015, Arbour posted a video bearing that name to her YouTube channel. The video drew criticism for fat-shaming and was briefly pulled from YouTube. Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Ashley Graham was among those who spoke out against the video, labeling it “downright disgusting.”

Arbour eventually went on an apology tour, but that also fell flat. She defended the video during an appearance on The View by claiming it was simply “satire” and not meant to be taken seriously while doubling down on those claims during an interview with TIME.

“I find seeing someone’s head being blown off offensive … I find children starving in a country with more than enough food offensive. I find women’s bodies being mutilated for religious purposes, that is offensive to me. But words and satire I don’t find offensive,” she said.

Arbour was eventually fired from her job as a choreographer for an anti-bullying video for kids.

Prior to her YouTube fame, Arbour was a cheerleader for the Toronto Raptors and made an attempt at having a music career.

A bomb threat was made at the MC Blanchard Judicial Building in Pensacola, Florida, on Monday morning. The building has been evacuated. Police are currently searching the building.

The bomb threat at the MC Blanchard Judicial Building is just the latest in a string of lockdowns, bomb threats, and shootings that have plagued the United States.

Over the course of the past few years, shootings such as these have been a scourge upon the country and people have struggled with coming up with a solution. Lockdowns have become all too common as a means of protection when students and faculty are in danger and today is no different.

This incident follows similar incidents at Dodd Middle School in Connecticut, Windham Public Schools also in Connecticut, Pacoima Middle School in Los Angeles, Millennium Middle School in Florida, and US Grant High School in Oklahoma, which are just some of the places where events such as this have occurred.

Brad Stevens Net Worth 2018: How Much Is Boston Celtics Head Coach Worth?

0
0

Enough can’t be said about the 17th head coach in the history of the Boston Celtics — and that is Brad Stevens — who took his team to the Eastern Conference Finals for the second consecutive year. That is quite remarkable. Or maybe, that’s just unbelievable. Either way, he has won 221 games with the Boston Celtics in his fifth season as a head coach.

So, who exactly is Brad Stevens?

Well, besides the fact, that he’s currently a basketball coach for the hottest team in the NBA, the Boston Celtics, there is a lot more to his name than just that. When Stevens was young, he had one dream in mind. And that was to become an NBA player. But despite his set school records for scoring, assists, steals, and three-point field goals, his dream came up a little short.

Anyways, Stevens has had a lot to show for as a head coach with the Celtics. I mean, just last year, he earned the honor of coaching the Eastern Conference All-Star team for the 2017 NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans. Not to mention, he’s the sixth Celtics coach to earn the honor. He is seeking his first championship win as a head coach — and the first championship win for the Celtics franchise since 2008. And the Celtics are almost at the final stage… They just have to knock off ‘The King of the NBA’ and then they reach the Finals. If there is anything for me to say, it’s that Stevens is one ‘hell’ of an amazing head coach.

Brad Stevens Net Worth As Of 2018: $6 Million

Are you curious about Brad Stevens net worth? Aforementioned, he’s worth around $6 million. And yes, he’s a rich coach. As for his annual salary, it’s around $3 million. Let’s dive right into how his journey as a career coach unfolded.

Early Years

Instagram Photo

Brad Stevens, 41, was born in Zionsville, Indiana. When he was young, he already developed a passion for basketball. He went onto become a star basketball player at Zionsville Community High School. Once he graduated, he attended DePauw University, and later, he became the captain as a senior. He was also a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

2001-2007

Instagram Photo

In 2001, Stevens became a full-time assistant for Butler University. Soon after that, Stevens got his next job. He was chosen to take over as head coach for the Butler Bulldogs.

2007-2013

Instagram Photo

Stevens first season with the Bulldogs got off to a strong and fascinating start, winning his first eight games. And hear this — Stevens was the second youngest coach in Division I basketball at the start of the 2007-08 season. Wow. Isn’t that something? He definitely made being a head coach look easy and finished the season with the Bulldogs at 27-3. As the season winded down, Butler signed Stevens to a seven-year contract. But there was nobody more grateful and excited for Stevens than Barry Collier — who is the athletic director at Butler University.

“We are extremely excited to reach this long-term agreement to have Brad continue to lead our program,” Collier said.

And his next season, he accomplished a huge milestone as the head coach with the Butler Bulldogs. He notched his 50th win and became the sixth head coach in NCAA history to reach 50 wins in 56 games or fewer. Damn. No way! Yeah, you can say that again… Also, he was named as a finalist for the Henry Iba Coach of the Year Award.

Arguably, without a doubt — Stevens third season as head coach — was definitely the best season out of all of them. How so? Not only did he exceed the most wins in a coach’s first three years, what about the fact he also coached Butler to their first Final Four in school history? Now, we are talking about a future NBA head coach. Nevertheless, the next season, Stevens and Butler were right back at the Final Four. What a job he has done. I think, it’s safe to say, that he is a coaching prodigy. Does anyone else think so?

2013-Present

Instagram Photo

As mentioned before, Stevens was a future NBA head in coach in the makings. And to say the least, he got there as easy as pie. He was signed as the head coach for the Boston Celtics on July 3, 2013. It wasn’t until his second season as head coach — he took his team to the Eastern Conference Playoffs — and then took them once again to the Playoffs in his third year as the head coach.

Then, in 2017, Stevens was named the Eastern Conference head coach for the 2017 NBA All-Star Game. And it was that same year, when the Celtics made the Eastern Conference Finals and played the defending champions, the Cleveland Cavaliers. Now, look where we are. The Celtics pounded the Cavaliers 108-83 last night to take a 1-0 lead. And tomorrow night, they will look to do the same. Game 2 gets underway at 8:30 p.m. EST at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

So what exactly are Stevens ‘secrets’ to his success as a head coach?

Let me just say, he finds success by doing the little things well like communicating with his players. In other words, he’s careful with his language and he focuses on actions.

Now, let’s see if the Celtics could defeat the Cavaliers and capture an NBA Championship ring against either the defending champions, the Golden State Warriors, or the Houston Rockets. It’s time to sit back, relax, and enjoy the Eastern and Western Conference Finals. Who else can’t wait for the NBA Finals?

Student Jumps Into Action To Stop Drunk High School Bus Driver

A high school bus driver in Baldwin County, Alabama has been arrested for DUI, while she was taking students home Friday, May 11. Vicki Patrick, 58, has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless endangerment. She’s currently in the Baldwin County jail with no bond.

Thanks to quick thinking from a 16-year-old student and passenger of Patrick’s, everyone on the bus was kept safe.

“She was swerving on the road and she was going really fast and then she was going really slow,” Robertsdale High School sophomore Cody Butler said, according to FOX10.

Baldwin County Jail

He knew something was terribly wrong on his way home from school Friday. He went to the front of the bus to see if his longtime bus driver, Vicki Patrick was okay. Butler said after he smelled alcohol and heard Patrick slurring her words, he walked back to his seat and called his mom to alarm her of the situation. Butler said Patrick couldn’t even form a complete sentence.

His mom then called 911 and Butler jumped into action. He said Patrick tried to pull over at a nearby fire station because an alarm was going off on the bus, but missed the turn and stopped alongside a nearby intersection. She then turned the bus off and tried to call in another bus to pick them up.

Fortunately, a Baldwin County School System employee saw the pulled over bus and stopped to see what had happened.

FOX10 reports what happened next:

“He was asking what was wrong and she said everything was fine and we were getting a new bus and I made hand motions to him to come help. I mouthed that she was drunk,” Butler said.

When Baldwin County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived, they said Patrick reeked of alcohol, was extremely disoriented and could barely stand or answer questions. She also refused sobriety tests.

Once she was taken into custody, Baldwin County School Superintendent Eddie Tyler, said Patrick’s blood alcohol level was 15 times over the limit.

A frightening ride home for all 25 students on board that could have ended worse, but Butler said he wasn’t going to let that happen.

“I didn’t let her turn on the bus. I just kept saying just stay where you are and people were coming.”

We reached out to Cody Butler for comment on his courageous actions, and are waiting for a response.

U.S. Supreme Court Rules To Lift Federal Ban On Sports Betting: Must-See Details

0
0

The United States Supreme court has ruled on the Murphy v. National Collegiate Athletic Association case. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of striking down a federal law banning states from allowing sports betting. The Supreme Court ruled that the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act which forbid state authorized sports gambling violated states’ rights.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie got the ball rolling in 2011 when the state passed a referendum allowing sports betting. The law was challenged by professional sports leagues who argued it would usher in a new era of fixing games and point-shaving, effectively threatening the integrity of the game. Supreme Court Justice Sam Alito who voted in favor of striking down PASPA had this to say:

“Congress can regulate sports gambling directly, but if it elects not to do so, each state is free to act on its own,” Alito said. “Our job is to interpret the law Congress has enacted and decide whether it is consistent with the Constitution. PASPA is not.”

The President of American Gaming Association also commented on the ruling:

“Today’s decision is a victory for the millions of Americans who seek to bet on sports in a safe and regulated manner. Today’s ruling makes it possible for states and sovereign tribal nations to give Americans what they want: an open, transparent, and responsible market for sports betting.”

Many proponents of the decision argued PASPA is out of touch with the current landscape of sports betting. The monopoly Nevada had on the industry created an underground market of illegal sports gambling with the presence and rapid growth of online gambling.

What you need to know:

The impact of the landmark ruling will open up the floodgates on sports gambling and allow many other states to get in on the action. The decision could open the door for as many as 25 states to pass similar laws permitting gambling on the outcome of sporting events. States will now be able to reap tax benefits of the 100 billion dollar industry that Nevada has had a stranglehold on since PASPA passed.

Before the court ruling, only four states were exempt from PASPA: Nevada, Delaware, Oregon, and Montana. All were grandfathered in because of previously adopted betting practices.

New Jersey officials are prepared to act in the upcoming weeks to implement the new gambling law. Many other states are expected to follow suit and launch similar efforts. The New Jersey law will only allow certain types of sports betting at casinos and racetracks, with a minimum age of 21.

Apple’s Tim Cook Urges Duke Graduates To “Challenge The Status Quo”

Apple CEO Tim Cook recently gave this year’s commencement address at his graduate school alma mater, Duke University. Cook received his MBA from Duke’s Fuqua School of Business and a member of the university’s Board of Trustees, And while this speech isn’t unlike other commencement speeches that he’s given in the past, Cook did reference the current social and political climate. In addition to the usual Graduation speech platitudes like, “think different” and “be fearless”, Cook also took the opportunity to reference the recent #metoo and #timesup movements, as well as the students of Parkland, Florida.

“Fearless like the students of Parkland, Florida—who refuse to be silent about the epidemic of gun violence, and have rallied millions to their cause. Fearless like the women who say “me, too” and “time’s up”… women who cast light into dark places, and move us toward a more just and equal future.”

The Apple CEO also couldn’t help but take a shot at rival Facebook amid its recent privacy scandal involving Cambridge Analytica.

“We reject the excuse that getting the most out of technology means trading away your right to privacy. So we choose a different path: Collecting as little of your data as possible.”

Of course, this is far from the first time that Cook has criticized Mark Zuckerberg. Recently, Cook told MSNBC that “I wouldn’t be in this situation” when asked about the issues surrounding Facebook and it’s founder.

And in case the graduates really didn’t get the message that Apple rules, Facebook drools, Cook made sure to tout the accomplishments of his own company, as well as it’s late founder, Steve Jobs.

“Steve’s vision was that great ideas come from a restless refusal to accept things as they are. And those principles still guide us at Apple today. We reject the notion that global warming is inevitable. That’s why we run Apple on 100% renewable energy.”

Of course, in 2018, this isn’t anything that could be considered a hot take, and Cook ends his remarks by quoting Martin Luther King and sends the crowd home happy. Watch the whole speech below.
