Elisabeth Moss, often considered to be the “Queen of Peak TV”, has appeared in some of the most successful shows of the last 15 years. In the early 2000’s, Moss starred on The West Wing as Zoey Bartlet, the youngest daughter of President Josiah Bartlet. Following The West Wing, Moss began portraying Peggy Olson on the award-winning AMC series Mad Men (2007–2015), which earned her six Emmy Awards nominations and a Golden Globe nomination. Following Mad Men, Moss portrayed Det. Robin Griffin in the BBC miniseries Top of the Lake, which won her a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Miniseries or TV Film.

Beginning in 2017, Moss began receiving critical acclaim for her portrayal of Offred on the award-winning Hulu series The Handmaid’s Tale. For her work on The Handmaid’s Tale, Moss won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series as a producer.

While Moss may be best known for her towering television performances, she has also known for her work in the films Girl, Interrupted, Virgin, Listen Up Philip, The One I Love, Truth, Queen of Earth, Get Him to the Greek, and The Square.

In 2018, in addition to reprising her role as Offred in season 2 of The Handmaid’s Tale, Moss will be starring in the films The Seagull and The Old Man and the Gun.

At just 35-years-old and a litany of awards under her belt, Moss figures to be a mainstay in Hollywood for some time to come.

Baker Mayfield Net Worth 2018: How Much Is Baker Mayfield Worth?

Baker Mayfield, 23, has been long touted as one of the best quarterback prospects for several years now. He declared he would opt for the NFL after his Oklahoma Sooners lost a thriller to the Georgia Bulldogs in the 2018 Rose Bowl. With all the hoopla about this young man and a future in the NFL set to begin, just how much is Mayfield actually worth?

Baker Mayfield’s Estimated Net Worth: $30 Million

Even in college at Oklahoma, and not being paid since he was a collegiate athlete, Baker Mayfield has a worth of a million dollars. Those numbers are expected to go up wildly tomorrow night after his name is called. Somewhere in that top-five, Mayfield will be raking up the cash at $30 million.

Early Life

https://www.instagram.com/p/8o-q2cktjp/

Baker Mayfield was born in Austin, Texas on April 14, 1995.

Mayfield attended Lake Travis High School, where he was the starting quarterback for the Lake Travis Cavaliers.

During his time at Lake Travis, Mayfield led the Cavaliers to a 25-2 record in two seasons. He helped Lake Travis win the 2011 Texas 4A State Championship. His high school career finished with him throwing for 6,255 yards, 67 touchdowns, and just eight interceptions.

Once he graduated from Lake Travis, Mayfield decided to take his talents to Texas Tech University.

College Years

After heading to Texas Tech, Mayfield was named the starting quarterback a short time before the start of the 2013 season as a freshman. It was said, he’s the first freshman — who was also a true walk-on — to start a season opener.

That 2013 season, Baker would finish with 2,315 yards on 218 completions, and he would throw for 12 touchdowns, earning him the honor of Big 12 Conference Freshman Offensive Player of the Year. Mayfield eventually left Texas Tech and enrolled at the University of Oklahoma in January 2014.

Mayfield was named starting QB of the Sooners before the beginning of the 2015 season. He would have an exceptional season, including passing for 3,700 passing yards and 37 touchdowns. His season would gain him a Heisman Trophy nod, where he would finish fourth in the voting. Mayfield’s performance also led Oklahoma to the College Football Playoff Semifinal — the Orange Bowl — where he and his team would lose to Clemson, 37-13.

Following his breakout year in 2015, he received several honors from Sporting News Player of the Year to the first of two consecutive Burlsworth Trophies, to his first Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year award, to his first nods as First-team Big 12 and All-American.

In 2016, Mayfield once again earned Heisman recognition for another terrific season. He would finish third in the voting after throwing for 40 TDs and 3,965 yards. That season, Mayfield brought the Sooners to the Sugar Bowl where they were victorious 35-19. He was awarded Sugar Bowl MVP for his performance.

Mayfield was arrested on February 25, 2017, in Washington County, Arkansas. Reports said he was arrested for public intoxication and fleeing charges.

His final season as a senior at Oklahoma in 2017 was a wild one. Mayfield’s antics started to question his maturity from his critics. But on the field, Mayfield was top dog. He threw for a record 41 touchdowns and whopping 4,340 yards. And after years of being close, Mayfield finally was awarded the Heisman Trophy. He would also take home the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp, and Davey O’ Brien Awards, and be named AP Player of the Year.

Mayfield declared for the NFL Draft a short time after the Rose Bowl loss to Georgia.

Despite all the talk about his maturity and controversy, Baker Mayfield is going to be a good quarterback in the NFL for a very long time. And if not that, he’ll be one of the best personalities to come into the league in quite some time.

Sam Darnold Net Worth 2018: How Much Is QB Worth?

0
0

Darnold is the latest quarterback prospect to emerge from Southern Cal, with many believing he could be in the mix for the No. 1 overall pick. With so many quarterback-needy teams inside of the top five, Darnold is expected to fly off the board early. Darnold has long been considered one of the top players on the Cleveland Browns’ draft board.

Darnold began his college career with a redshirt in 2015, sitting behind Cody Kessler and Max Browne. Browne eventually transferred, and Kessler moved to the NFL which opened the starting position for Darnold, earning first-team All-Pac-12 honors in 2017. A knock on Darnold is his ball security, but he has accuracy and the ability to smoothly go through his reads which will benefit him at the next level.

Darnold declared for the 2018 NFL Draft following his junior season at USC.

How much is the quarterback worth? Let’s take a look.

Sam Darnold Net Worth 2018

There are currently no official projections of Darnold’s net worth, but that will all be changing soon with the star signal-caller set to fly off the board early in the 2018 NFL Draft. Darnold is currently projected as the potential top pick of the Cleveland Browns.

As a projected top-five selection, Darnold is expected to make anywhere between $30 million as the No. 1 pick to $25 million as the No. 5 pick.

About Sam Darnold

Sam Darnold was born June 5, 1997, in Capistrano Beach, California. The quarterback was a star at San Clemente High School and played baseball and basketball along with football. As a recruit, Darnold was ranked as a four-star coming out of high school and had offers from a number of the top programs in the nation before ultimately choosing USC. Darnold was first discovered by USC coaches Clay Helton and Steve Sarkisian at a football camp.

Darnold first started for the Trojans as a redshirt freshman, setting multiple records and leading the team to a win in the 2017 Rose Bowl. In his first season as a starter, Darnold was the Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year and the Archie Griffin Award winner. During his final season, Darnold earned First-team All-Pac-12 honors.

Darnold is the grandson of the legendary Dick Hammer, who played basketball at USC and was an Olympic volleyball player. Hammer also served as one of the Mr. Marlboro Men. Darnold’s mother is a physical education teacher at Shorecliffs Middle School in California and his older sister, Franki, played collegiate volleyball at the University of Rhode Island.

Josh Allen Net Worth 2018: How Much Is QB Worth?

Josh Allen enters the 2018 NFL Draft as one of the prospects with the highest ceiling. Allen has struggled with his accuracy throughout his collegiate career, but his strong arm and prototypical size have NFL scouts intrigued. The star signal-caller landed at Wyoming after receiving no Division I offers out of high school, neither the FBS or FCS. He did earn a walk-on offer from San Diego State, but he ultimately turned that down after not being guaranteed playing time.

Allen was linked to the Cleveland Browns from the beginning of the draft season, but as the draft approached there has been some discussion about just how high the signal-caller will land.

During his time at Wyoming, Allen earned Second Team All-Mountain West honors.

How much is the quarterback worth? Let’s take a look.

Josh Allen Net Worth 2018

There are currently no official projections on Allen’s net worth, but that will all be changing soon when he puts ink to paper on his first NFL contract. The signal-caller is a top prospect and is expected to be one of the first names to come off the board in the 2018 NFL Draft.

As a projected top-five selection, Allen is expected to make anywhere between $30 million as the No. 1 pick to $25 million as the No. 5 pick.

About Josh Allen

Josh Allen was born May 12, 1996, in Firebaugh, California. The 6-foot-5 quarterback grew up on a farm which was established by his grandfather. Allen graduated from Firebaugh High School before beginning his college career despite receiving no Division I offers. Allen was hoping to play for Fresno State, a program he regularly attended games for, but ultimately never received a scholarship. Along with football, Allen played baseball — reportedly throwing a 90 mph fastball — and basketball, leading his team in scoring.

Allen began his college career at Reedley College before he eventually landed at Wyoming, where he majored in communications.

Top 4 Reasons To Live At College Over The Summer

While college is easily the most carefree years of your life, it’s also likely the most broke years of your life (unless you’re one of those trust fund kids, if so, good for you) as you scrape by selling your Adderall and getting a job delivering pizzas.

Smoking Weed Inside

It’s f*cking hot out and you want to get high, but going outside is the last thing you want to do. Truth be told, it’s not even enjoyable being stoned in the unforgiving heat. The sweat, the moisture, it stinks and should be avoided at all costs.

Just picture it: you’re laying on the couch in your beautifully air-conditioned house and you want to get a little baked. But your parents don’t know you smoke weed and you’ve got nowhere to be, so you can’t just randomly leave the house. We’ve all been there.

Now, the youths will tell me that vape pens have defeated this issue, and that’s partially true, but at the end of the day, there’s nothing like OG, regular ass weed. And just like there’s nothing like old school weed, there’s nothing like smoking said weed in the comfort of your air-conditioned house, which is not something you can get away with while at your parent’s house (unless they’re, like, totally chill, bro).

Not Having To Do Chores

Look, you still should do chores — clean the dishes, take out the trash, mop once a month, etc — but you don’t have to.

No Mom breathing down your neck that you have to watch your sister, that you have to take your dog to the groomer — all the chores you have to do while living at school, you’re technically doing by choice. While I don’t suggest it, if you really wanted to just rot away in your own filth for three months, you totally could. But please, don’t do that.

The older you get, you find a certain sense of relief in knocking things off the to-do list and that begins with living on your own during summer, which is the closest you’ll get to adulthood before it actually happens (since there’s no class and you’re likely working every day).

Living with Friends

The most obvious reason on the list is that you get to keep living the college life even though class isn’t in session. I haven’t lived in my parents home since I was 18, so I can’t personally speak on it, but my friends who have gone home in recent years say the thing they miss most about college is just being with the guys on regular nights.

Once you trade living with your siblings and parents to living with your squad, it’s tough to ever go back. I never did and you may not either (but if you can move back home, I’d definitely suggest it for 6 months to a year to stack some bread, build a little cushion).

Being Able to Drink Without Guilt

In college, shirking responsibility and cracking a beer at 1 p.m. on a beautiful weekday is totally normal, if not somewhat expected. But home, under your Mom and Dad’s roof, shirking responsibility and cracking a beer at 1 p.m. is considered alcoholism and you will never hear the end of it. Trust me.

While it’s one of the most wildly overused cliches on the planet, you only get to live college once and day drinking is a hugggeeee part of that as it’s pretty much unacceptable any other time in life (not counting the weekends, obviously).

Of all the perks of living away from home during the summer, being able to drink like your in college without having any stress about class is probably the biggest one.

Saquon Barkley Net Worth 2018: How Much Is NFL Running Back Worth?

Penn State running back Saquon Barkley was drafted with one of the top picks in the 2018 NFL draft. Many people considered Saquon Barkley to be one of the best running back prospects to come out in years.

Saquon Barkley Net Worth 2018: Approximately $25-$30 million

Saquon Barkley is predicted to go in the Top 5 picks of the 2018 NFL Draft. In the 2017 draft, #1 overall pick Myles Garrett eventually signed a contract worth a total of $30 million. Corey Davis, the #5 pick in the draft, signed a contract worth $25 million. Barkley will be worth somewhere between $25-$30 million once he’s drafted.

Early Life

Instagram Photo

Saquon Barkley was born on February 7, 1997 in the Bronx, New York to his father Alibay Barkley, and his mother, Tonya Johnson.

When he was younger, before moving to Pennsylvania, Barkley idolized Curtis Martin and was a New York Jets fan.

Barkley and his family moved to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to for a more suburban lifestyle. That’s where Saquon discovered football.

Attending Whitefall High School in Whitefall Township, Pennsylvania, Barkley became a stud on the gridiron. In his sophomore season, Barkley put up absurd numbers, rushing for 3,646 yards and scoring 63 touchdowns. Fast forward to his senior year, he totaled 1,856 yards and 31 touchdowns.

Barkley’s senior season ended with him being named Mr. PA Football and  attracted schools from all around the country. He was a rated a four-star recruit and committed to Rutgers University. But he ended up sticking in state despite that, when he announced he would attend Penn State University.

Penn State Years

Instagram Photo

Once he committed to Penn State, Barkley immediately received playing time as a freshman in 2015. It was an up and down year for the 18-year old, but Barkley did get 182 carries for 1,076 yards, resulting in seven touchdowns. He would receive Second-team All Big-Ten honors and was named BTN.com’s Freshman of the Year.

When his sophomore season rolled around, Barkley went off. His 18 touchdowns on 1,496 yards on the ground made him a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award. Barkley led Penn State to a Big Ten Championship and Rose Bowl over USC.  The numbers he produced, also got Barkley recognition as the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, Ameche-Dayne Running Back of the Year, and First Team All Big-Ten.

Barkley in his first two years at Penn State, set new records for rushing yards in a season by a freshman (1,076) and a sophomore (1,496).

By his junior year, Saquon Barkley was a household name and one of top players that could be headed to the NFL. He contributed to Penn State’s victory in the Fiesta Bowl and scored another 18 touchdowns and gained another 1,271 yards.

On December 31, 2017, 24 hours after the Fiesta Bowl victory, Barkley declared for the NFL Draft.

Best NBA Playoff Moments From April 24: Marcus Smart, 76ers, & Ginóbili

0
0

On Thursday, April 24, Game 5 action came at us from coast to coast. The Celtics fought off the Bucks, the Sixers polished off their first playoff series win in six years, and the Warriors held off the rallying Spurs. Let’s review.

Marcus Smart, Game-Changer

Game 5 of Celtics/Bucks can be best summarized with this play: Marcus Smart dribbling into traffic, Marcus Smart stumbling and falling, three Bucks jumping on top of him and forgetting their defensive charges, Marcus Smart securing the ball and turning a near-turnover into a game-saving assist, Jabari Parker standing and watching a wide-open Al Horford under the basket, the Celtics putting the game out of reach. In case you missed it, Marcus Smart has returned to Boston’s lineup, and he very well could be the Celtics’ difference-maker as they press on in pursuit of the Conference Semifinals.

Instagram Photo

In 25 minutes off the bench, Smart had nine points, five rebounds, four assists, one (huge) block (on Giannis!), and three steals (it took him all of 33 seconds to notch the first). He shot just 2-for-7, but was 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Smart, on the mend from a thumb injury, was urged to return to playoff basketball by his critically ill mother, “because that would put a smile on her face if I got back healthy and back on the court.” Fulfilling her wishes, Smart’s inspired play secured a crucial win for the Celtics. Head coach Brad Stevens put it best: “You can look at stat sheets all you want with Marcus. It just doesn’t tell the story. It’s his energy, it’s his emotion, it’s the little plays that turn out to be game-changing plays.”

Postgame, Smart described himself as a “spark” who brings an energy that all at once positively impacts the mood and performance of his team and frustrates the other to no end. Smart plays with a planned recklessness, hellbent on driving opponents crazy. The offensive fouls he draws are theatrically punctuated, the loose balls he dives for are won with an otherworldly hustle, and it’s this heart and soul–missing since early March–that gives the Celtics an advantage few teams can replicate.

Smart was the bottom line of this game, but if you were hoping for more Drew vs. Who?, Eric Bledsoe and Terry Rozier were happy to oblige. It’s hard to pinpoint who’s gotten under the other’s skin more as the series has progressed, but in this case, a little bump by Rozier yielded a flagrant bump by Bledsoe. Hardly an altercation, the minor scuffle reminded us that there absolutely is tension between these dudes, and whether or not it’s for show is irrelevant. When the Bucks’ playoff future was looking bleak after Game 2, Bledsoe mobilized the youngsters around him when he made those now-infamous comments about Rozier. The mini rivalry added a level of grit that pushed the Bucks to level a series they briefly looked unqualified to even be playing in.

Instagram Photo

On the Bucks’ side of things, they have work to do. Thon Maker (two points) and Tony Snell (zero points) are only hindering Milwaukee out on the perimeter. Malcolm Brogdon (two points) is wildly inconsistent. Giannis was held to just 10 field goal attempts in 41 minutes, and explained after the game, “I had open shots, but they wasn’t my shots”, revealing Boston’s game plan to take Antetokounmpo out of the game. Jabari Parker and Shabazz Muhammad did impressive work off the bench, but their accounting for 28 of 30 overall bench points is an indictment of Milwaukee’s depth. The Bucks could have stolen this road win if not for a bizarre Celtics shot clock violation that was never called, but in the end, they were simply outplayed.

Instagram Photo

This series could easily become a seven-game outing. While neither team has lost at home, the even matchups and close games don’t put a Milwaukee upset out of the question. Regardless of the outcome, the Bucks have a lot to consider in the offseason: do they want Giannis leading the team in assists and worrying about distributing? What kind of point guard should be next to him? When will they face the music and start Jabari Parker? What kind of head coach will help this team find a winning identity?

The Sixers Advance

Instagram Photo

If there was any doubt that the Sixers could close out their series at home, it evaporated when news broke that Meek Mill would be released from prison on Tuesday afternoon. The unjustly incarcerated rapper and Philadelphia native has long been tied to the 76ers’ organization–so much so that team co-owner Michael Rubin personally retrieved Mill upon release. Mill has been fervently supported by NBA players across the country, and Philly’s brightest stars Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, and Markelle Fultz had personally visited Meek in prison. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court decision to let Meek walk was slated to bring good mojo to the city of Philadelphia, but it was Meek’s presence at the game on Tuesday night–however unethical the surrounding media circus–that inspired the Sixers, and helped to put them over the top.

Two years ago, the Philadelphia 76ers lost 72 games out of 82. Head coach Brett Brown led Philly to 75 wins total in his first four miserable years at the helm. Today, this very same team is perhaps the most exciting and promising in the NBA, and most terrifying to the contending teams around them. The Sixers are officially en route to the Eastern Conference Semifinals for the first time since 2012, but it would be lazy of us to expect them to stop there.

After the series-clinching win, an emotional and vindicated Brown addressed his persevering players, congratulating them on “a monumental effort given where we were and where we are; to win a round in the playoffs is not to be denied.” But most importantly, he insists, is that “we have so much more to grow and give.” He’s absolutely right. It’s easy to forget that this is just Simmons and Embiid’s first year playing together, yet they remain a threat to take out LeBron James en route to a Finals run. With long years of patient losing behind them, the 76ers have years of work yet to do. J.J. Redick, intended ringer of the ceremonial postgame mini liberty bell, preferred instead to let Brown relish in this first major victory, while the rest of the team showered him in thanks.

Instagram Photo

Tuesday night, Embiid finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Simmons contributed a staple stat line of 14 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists. The game was close through halftime, but it was Redick who took the initiative to put the Heat away, scoring 19 in the final 24 minutes. After a frustrated Goran Dragić knocked Simmons upside the head early in the third, the Sixers took off, outscoring the embittered, disorganized Heat 34-20 in the quarter. Tyler Johnson, Kelly Olynyk, and Dwyane Wade tried to rally the Heat in the fourth, cutting an 18-point lead to eight, but a James Johnson technical interrupted a 10-0 run. Philly—behind Redick and Marco Belinelli—held fast to their pride, and settled the series.

Instagram Photo

Bench play kept the Heat in the competition, but the starters’ deficiencies cast an early shadow on Miami’s chances. Josh Richardson, attempting to brush off a shoulder injury sustained in Game 4, was ineffective through the pain and attempted just one field goal in seven minutes. Hassan Whiteside, astronomically outplayed through the series by old buddy Embiid, finished with two points, five rebounds, and one block in ten minutes. James Johnson had an inconsequential four points, and Dragić had his worst shooting game since the series opener.

Instagram Photo

There was a lot of talk about this game possibly being Dwyane Wade’s last. Father Prime refused to break any news during his postgame media availability, focusing instead on how great of shape the NBA is in now that Embiid and Simmons are here to take care of it. Humble as he is, he can’t convince me he’s not going to play his last game at home in Miami in front of the people who love him most. Nice try, D Wade.

The Spurs Go Out, But Not Without a Fight

Instagram Photo

Let’s just admit that Warriors/Spurs was a weird, sometimes unwatchable series. While it was inevitable to pessimists that the Warriors would emerge victors, the defending champs didn’t always play like they had a damn to give. Without Stephen Curry, they’ve coasted on clout more than they’ve rearranged their style of play, leaving Kevin Durant averaging 28.2 points after five games of less-than-inspiring performances. Meanwhile, the Spurs, lacking two leaders in grieving head coach Gregg Popovich and absent cornerstone Kawhi Leonard, hustled game after game to challenge the lethargic Dubs.

Manu Ginóbili willed the Spurs to a Game 4 victory at home on Saturday, cementing himself and Parker as the winningest playoff duo in NBA history. Even though the black-and-silver underdogs would relocate to a raucous Oracle Arena on Tuesday night, the NBA’s model franchise wasn’t about to take a scheduled loss lightly.

Instagram Photo

The Warriors’ lead hovered between nine and 15 through much of the second half on Tuesday, but a clutch-time surge by LaMarcus Aldridge threatened the once-inevitable outcome. The inspired Aldridge almost singlehandedly whittled the lead down to eight, then six, then four, then two with under a minute remaining. The Spurs, on the verge of forcing a Game 6, were pulling out late-game heroics that no doubt filled the omnipresent Popovich with pride. But Durant, who had a poor overall shooting night, stepped up last-second to can an icy jumper in Rudy Gay’s face–he is one of the greatest basketball players in the world, after all. One turnover and a missed three later, the Spurs had no choice but to concede.

Instagram Photo

He’d neither confirm nor deny, but Tuesday night could have been Ginóbili’s NBA finale. Retirement rumors didn’t just swirl around Dwyane Wade on Tuesday night: Manu, at age 40, has been “contemplating retirement forever”, and this close-out playoff game may have marked the last-ever appearance for the NBA’s most adored international player. Ginóbili finished the night with 10 points, five rebounds, and five assists, including crucial dishes to Davis Bertans and Aldridge down the stretch. Defying his undying stellar play, the future Hall of Famer and beloved Spur may be bringing his 16-year partnership with Parker home to rest.

Instagram Photo

Parker’s plans remain even more of a mystery. During last year’s playoffs, Parker suffered a crushing quad injury which subsequently delayed his 2017-18 debut; despite a vintage moment here and there, Parker has visibly slowed down. Midseason, the 36-year-old conceded his near two-decade-old spot in the Spurs’ starting lineup to 21-year-old Dejounte Murray. Between the unclear paths awaiting Manu, Tony, and Kawhi, the San Antonio Spurs could look very different come October. Whether or not we’re ready for the dynasty to draw its curtains, we have no choice but to wait and see.

Chris Pratt Net Worth 2018: How Much Is Pratt Worth?

Chris Pratt is an American actor best known for Parks and Recreation, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Jurassic World. Pratt has an estimated net worth of $40 million dollars. With two summer blockbusters coming up, I have no doubt his figure is only destined to rise.

Chris Pratt’s Net Worth as of 2018: $40 Million

Over the course of Pratt’s career, he has earned somewhere in the range of $40 Million. He was able to do rack up this amount through his acting contracts as well as appearing in advertisements. Let’s take a look at Pratt’s career and how he got to this point!

Early Years

Instagram Photo

Chris Pratt was born June 21, 1979, in Minnesota but was raised in Washington State. While an athlete in high school, Pratt was never destined for academics. He dropped out of college, became a stripper, and eventually moved to Hawaii where he was homeless living in a tent on the beaches of Maui.

2000–2012

Instagram Photo

When he was nineteen, Pratt began waiting tables and shortly after was “discovered” and moved to Los Angeles. His played the role of Bright Abbott on the series Everwood, where he dated his co-star, Emily VanCamp.

It wasn’t until 2009 that Pratt landed mainstream success on the NBC comedy series Parks and Recreation. He was a breakout star of the series and was bumped up to a season regular just after the first season. This success brought about many opportunities. Pratt landed roles in prominent films such as Moneyball, Zero Dark Thirty, and Her. He attributed missing out on many roles due to his weight fluctuation, however, he seemed to overcome this in the future.

2013–present

Instagram Photo

While trying to break into leading man status, Pratt had little luck in the beginning. He lost out on notable roles such as the lead in Avatar, as well as Captain Kirk in the Star Trek reboot films. When approached to play Peter Quill in Guardians of the Galaxy, he dismissed the offer for fear of failure. However, after being persuaded by the casting director along with director James Gunn, Pratt accepted a role that would forever change the trajectory of his career. Guardians of the Galaxy became the highest-grossing film of 2014 in North America

In 2014 Pratt also starred in The Lego Movie, another film that broke box-office records. Amidst all his success, this same year tragedy struck. His father, Daniel Clifton Pratt, passed away from multiple sclerosis. The loss of his father deeply impacted Chris and he publicly stated it took years to accept the loss. During his work on Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2, his character reconnected with his biological father, only to realize the man that raised him was truly the father-figure he always longed for after all. This material finally gave him closure in accepting his own father’s death to which he credits director James Gunn for providing him with such strong material.

He replaced Josh Brolin as the lead in the 2015 film, Jurassic World, now looking to break box-office records again this summer with the sequel, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. He has since starred in films such as The Magnificent Seven and Passengers.

On April 21, 2017, Pratt received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Joseph James DeAngelo Jr., 72, was arrested by police in California on Wednesday morning, and has been accused of being a notorious serial killer known as the East Area Rapist and Golden State Killer. According to co-author of the book “I’ll Be Gone In The Dark,” this particular serial killer has been accused of committing 12 homicides, 45 rapes and numerous home burglaries between 1976 and 1986. However, DeAngelo has only been charged with two counts of murder, according to the website of the Sacramento County Sherriff’s Office. His charges relate to the 1980 cold case murders of Lyman and Charlene Smith.

At 2:30 A.M. on Wednesday, April 25, Joseph James DeAngelo was taken into police custody. He is currently ineligible for bail. According to jail records, DeAngelo stands at 5’11” and weighs 205 pounds. According to the F.B.I., the East Area Rapist and Golden State Killer was about 5’10” and was between the ages of 60 and 75.

A live press-conference regarding the arrest of the suspected killer was streamed on Facebook. According to authorities, DNA-testing led police to the arrest of Joseph James DeAngelo, Jr. He was arrested for capital murder relating to crimes stemming from the year 1980, specifically relating to the deaths of Lyman and Charlene Smith. They are just two of 12 suspected victims of the East Area Rapist/Golden State Killer.

F.B.I.

The East Area Rapist, also known as the Golden State Killer, is said to have committed 12 homicides, 45 rapes and numerous home burglaries between 1976 and 1986. In the summer of 1976, his attacks began. According to the F.B.I., “Burglaries and rapes occurred in Rancho Cordova and Carmichael, California, both suburbs of Sacramento. The EAR/GSK gained entry into the homes of his victims by prying open a window or door while they slept. He would then shine a flashlight into the face of his victims, tie up the female victim and, if a male victim was present, tied him up as well. The EAR/GSK then ransacked the residence and raped the female victim. He often took small items from the residences including coins, cash, identification, and jewelry. Some victims reported receiving telephone calls from the suspect after the crimes.”

The Golden State Killer committed his first murder in 1978, slaying a couple who were walking their dog. “A couple was shot and killed while walking their dog in Rancho Cordova. Evidence left at the scene was indicative of the EAR/GSK. After this crime, the EAR/GSK committed rapes in Stockton, Modesto, Davis, and the East Bay Area of California. Between 1979 and 1981, he was involved in the rape and murder of several individuals, including couples, in Southern California. These victims were tied up in the same manner as the Sacramento area rapes and their homes were also ransacked. After July of 1981, no additional incidents related to the EAR/GSK were reported until the rape and murder of an 18-year-old girl occurred in Irvine, California, in May of 1986. This was the last known incident related to the EAR/GSK in California.”

The ages of his victims ranged between 12 and 41 years of age.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the East Area Rapist is accused of breaking into 150 homes across California. He committed crimes from northern to central California, leaving behind victims in Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara, Sacramento, Yolo, Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties.

This serial killer is also known as the Original Night Stalker and the Diamond Knot Killer. He is suspected of committing 51 rapes and 12 murders. His final victim is suspected to be an 18-year-old female in 1986

DeAngelo had been a police officer from 1973 to 1979. During the time of the arrest, DeAngelo worked as an officer in Auburn, California.

According to a 1973 newspaper article from The Exeter Sun, a 27-year-old DeAngelo was hired as a police officer in Exeter in August ’73. The newspaper also states that he is a native of Bath New York as well as a veteran of the Vietnam War. Regarding his educational background, DeAngelo graduated from from Folsom Senior High School in June 1964. He then received his associates with honors in political science at Sierra College. He also attended California State University, where he received a degree in criminal justice, with specialization in criminal law.

Before setting off for the police department in Auburn, DeAngelo interned with the Roseville Police Department, and was stationed with in the patrol, identification and investigation divisions.

It isn’t publicly known when DeAngelo made the move from the Exeter to Auburn police departments. However, it is clear that DeAngelo lost his job as an officer following the shoplifting arrest, according to a 1979 newspaper report by the Auburn Journal.

“Auburn City Manager Jack Sausser said DeAngelo failed to answer any of the city’s investigations and did not request an administrative hearing so was dismissed Monday,” according to the Auburn Journal. Sausser said to reporters, “There was justifiable grounds to remove him from the public sector.” Auburn Police Chief Nick Willick said, “It is very important that the community have the utmost trust and faith in its officers’ integrity; when this trust and faith has been compromised, officers can no longer effectively function in the community.”

The shoplifting-related arrest occurred on July 21, 1979, at at the Pay N’Save Store off Greenback Lane in Citrus Heights. “Dog repellant. Hammer. And refuses a hearing after shoplifting charge. Just took his punishment and left the force so no one would look deeper,” said Billy Jensen on Twitter.

He was found guilty for shoplifting on October 31, 1979, and sentenced to six months probation and a $100 fine. He tried to appeal his firing, but later dropped the appeal as he was found guilty in criminal court.

Book About The Golden State Killer

In February 2018, a book was released detailing the crimes of the killer and the obsession to catch the monster. The book was titled, I’ll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman’s Obsessive Search of the Golden State Killer.

Billy Jensen, who helped write the book, told The Daily Beast that the Golden State Killer suspect is Joseph James DeAngelo, Jr. He also fingered DeAngelo as the suspect on Twitter.

The book was written by a team of writers, including Jensen, researcher Paul Haynes and Michelle McNamara and her husband comedian Patton Oswalt. McNamara passed away in April 2016 before the book’s publication.

The 5 Venom Facts Every Venom Fan Must Know

0
0

Marvel Comics

The symbiotic alien known as Venom is probably the most recognizable and iconic Spider-Man villains ever, even ousting more classic characters such as the Green Goblin and Vulture. While it’s star had been diminished somewhat by the lackluster portrayal in Spider-Man 3 it has nevertheless remained a steady fixture in the Marvel comic universe. The release of the upcoming Venom movie’s new trailer and the first glimpse of the titular character joined with host Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) now has fans sighing in relief that the character finally looks good (Jenny Slate’s weird pronunciation of ‘symbiote’ notwithstanding). To celebrate and get in the Venom spirit, here are 5 essential facts everyone needs to know about their favorite, if freaky, anti-hero alien monster.

Ancient Aliens

The Venom symbiote is a Klyntar, an alien race originally from the Andromeda galaxy. Originally the Klyntar were a peaceful and benevolent who only created symbiotic bonds with willing hosts of exceptional virtue. A rogue faction started when some of the hosts selected were malignant or unstable, infecting their symbiotes on a mental and genetic level, and soon grew until it vastly outnumbered the good Klyntar. These Klyntar spread across the galaxy, taking up host after host until they were bored enough to suck them dry and move on to the next.

Love/Hate Relationship with Spider-Man

Spider-Man 3 (2007)

When Peter Parker first discovered the symbiote that would become Venom on another planet he assumed it was just a highly adaptable piece of clothing that could transform into a spider-suit as well as civilian outfits. With the help of the Fantastic Four he eventually realized it was a sentient organic being that had been not only contaminating Peter’s thoughts and emotions but taking control of his body as he slept to fight crime around New York. Horrified, Peter attempted to free himself of the symbiote, who at this point deeply loved and cared about its host and was extremely hurt by the rejection.

When the symbiote finally left Peter for good it encountered Eddie Brock, a former reporter whose career had effectively been destroyed by Spider-Man’s unmasking of a villain Brock had already claimed to know the real identity of. When the two combined, Brock’s anguish and anger at Spider-Man combined with the symbiote’s own bitterness at being rejected and created the monstrous Venom, whose main goal was to destroy the web-slinger. The symbiote still saw Peter as it’s ideal host, almost like a soul mate, and given the chance would have dropped Brock in heartbeat to be with him again.

An Unlikely Anti-Hero

When it was coupled with Eddie Brock, Venom was actually something of an anti-hero. A mixture of Peter Parker’s desire to be a hero and Brock’s own strong moral code managed to overcome the instinctual bloodlust and rage that was a hallmark of corrupted Klyntar’s and became a staunch protector of innocents (a classification that in Venom’s mind entirely excluded Spider-Man). While Venom would kill or allow innocents to die in his ultimate quest to kill the hero, he heavily mourned each and every loss.

Multiple Hosts

Marvel Comics

While Eddie Brock is the most famous Venom host, he’s far from the only one. The symbiote has temporarily possessed countless characters, from Ms. Marvel and Deadpool to Brock’s own ex-wife Anne Weying. It’s had a number of long-term hosts as well, including Mac Gargan (better known as the Scorpion) and Peter’s former classmate Flash Thompson.

One Big Happy Family

As a Klyntar the Venom symbiote is capable of asexual procreation and has spawned several offspring over the years. The first combined with Eddie Brock’s cellmate, the homicidal Cletus Kasady, to become the bloodthirsty being known as ‘Carnage.’ Carnage would eventually spawn itself, giving birth to the symbiote known as ‘Toxin.’ Later during a period when the Life Foundation had possession of the Venom symbiote, scientists forcefully extracted five spawns from it and attempted to use them to create a super-powered security team. As the Life Foundation seems to be playing a pivotal role in the upcoming Venom (2019) there’s a good chance we may be able to see some of Venom’s children in action.

Venom is directed by Ruben Fleischer and stars Tom Hardy, Jenny Slate and Riz Ahmed. It hits theaters October 5th, 2018.

Another chapter of hockey’s greatest rivalries will be added tonight. This evening, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins will meet in a decisive Game Seven to see who moves on to the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals to play the Tampa Bay Lightning. The series between the two teams has been exhilarating, and the fact that there’s been shades of their memorable playoff series in 2013, the tension is palpable not only among the fanbases, but among the hockey world.

When it was announced Toronto and Boston would meet in the first round, many pundits believed it would be the best series of the opening round in the playoffs.

NHL Hockey Boston Bruins

When the series opened in Boston two weeks ago, it became evident early that this could be a one-side series and be over quickly. The Bruins embarrassed the Leafs 5-1 in the first of the best of seven. Two nights later, there was no change. Boston trounced Toronto again, this time by a score of 7-3. Through those two games, the B’s first line trio, Patrice Bergeron, David Pastrnak, and Brad Marchand combined for an incredible 20 points. As the series shifted to The Six, the Leafs had their backs against the wall.

But in game three, Toronto was able to get back in the series on the backs of a two-goal game from Patrick Marleau and stellar performance from Frederik Andersen. In the crucial game four, the Maple Leafs couldn’t solve Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask, who made 31 saves in a 3-1 victory. With a chance to close out the series in Boston in game five, the Leafs took it to the B’s and kept the series alive with a 4-3 win. Game six, probably the best of the series, was a thriller with the Leafs once again winning 4-1 to set up the all important game seven.

Brittany Williams is the steady girlfriend of likely top ten NFL draft pick Josh Allen, who could go as high as first overall to Cleveland. Williams and Allen have been together for over a year, and will soon be living life as a glamorous NFL couple.

Instagram Photo

Williams attends Fresno State, where she is a cheerleader and expects to graduate this May. In an Instagram post, Williams stated that she has known Allen for eight years, though they began dating much more recently.

Instagram Photo

Allen has impressed scouts with his monster arm, well-developed skill-set and prototypical size. He has drawn comparisons to the Eagles’ Carson Wentz what with his small-school pedigree and advanced mobility outside of the pocket. Allen first gained the attention of NFL Draftnicks after a strong sophomore season in 2016 when he threw for 3,203 yards, 28 Touchdowns and 15 Interceptions with an underwhelming University of Wyoming supporting cast. In the aftermath of his 2016 performance, many believed he had a shot to be selected first overall in this year’s draft after his Junior season.

Instagram Photo

Allen’s 2017 season was disappointing. With a weaker supporting cast than he had in 2016, the Wyoming QB only threw for 1,812 yards, 16 Touchdowns, and 6 Interceptions. He also struggled in his three biggest games of the season against Oregon, Hawaii, and Iowa. However, his struggles have not been enough to dissuade scouts and NFL teams from ranking him high on draft boards. Those in the know remain impressed with his intangibles as well as physical and technical potential.

Brittany Williams will be by Allen’s side on draft night on Thursday in Dallas. Much anticipation abounds as to which city they will be headed.

Top 5 Worst Busts In Cleveland Browns History

0
0

Cleveland, Cleveland, Cleveland. You’ve been down, you’ve been out, and frankly, we’ve been slow to blame you as much as we could have. Sure, we poke fun at you, but we recognize that you aren’t the biggest market, nor are you the most enticing free agent destination. There isn’t exactly a mystique surrounding the Cleveland Browns organization; in fact, it’s quite the opposite. Perhaps the word I’m looking for here is ‘stench.’

All kidding aside, Cleveland does appear to be a franchise on a legitimate upswing, with the return of Josh Gordon, the offseason trades for wide receiver Jarvis Landry and QB Tyrod Taylor, and their possession of the first and fourth-overall picks in the 2018 draft. Of course, Cleveland’s been here before. They’ve drafted some big names that they hoped would them over the top. But who was the biggest let down in Cleveland Browns draft history?

Johnny Manziel (QB):

Instagram Photo

While Manziel only went 22nd overall in the 2014 NFL draft, many would argue that he was the most hotly anticipated prospect entering the NFL that season. As it would turn out, Cleveland’s first round in that draft would end up as one of the least successful in league history.

In fact, some would argue that Cleveland’s earlier pick in that round — taking cornerback Justin Gilbert at 8th overall — was an even more significant bust, given how sure his talent seemed coming out Oklahoma State, and given the fact that Odell Beckham Jr. and Aaron Donald were both selected after him. Manziel, however, was nearly a two-time Heisman winner and will continue to go down as one of the most exciting players in recent college football history. His biggest issues were attitudinal, as his drinking and partying lost him a fairly open competition for starter. As it stands, neither Manziel or Gilbert are in the league.

Barkevious Mingo (OLB):

Instagram Photo

Barkevious Mingo was expected to be an immediate impact rusher when the Browns took him sixth overall out of LSU in the 2013 draft. Instead, he racked up a measly 7 sacks in 30 games with Cleveland. While his rookie season was promising, as he posted 5 sacks in only three starts, Mingo would go on to flat-out lose his starting opportunities by 2015, a year in which he posted zero sacks. Seven picks after Mingo, the Jets would go on to pick eventual Rookie of the Year in defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson.

Trent Richardson (RB):

Instagram Photo

In a tight competition for horrible first rounds in NFL draft history is another Cleveland submission, this time from the 2012 draft in which Richardson, a star at Alabama under Nick Saban, was drafted third overall — ahead of Dontari Poe, Luke Keuchly, and Fletcher Cox. Richardson, in case the premise of this list wasn’t clear, would go on to have one of the least efficient, prolific, impressive, effective, etc. running careers in recent history. Oh yeah, and then the Browns went and picked a 30-year-old Brandon Weeden.

After scoring 11 touchdowns and barely missing 1,000 years as a rookie, he was traded to the Colts for a first-round pick in September of his second season. From there, he would struggle, both with injuries and effectiveness and end up out of the league by 2015. He is currently signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League, where he averaged 5.4 yards per carry in 48 carries last season.

Courtney Brown (DE):

Instagram Photo

The 2000 NFL draft was, by almost all quantifiable measurements, a pretty unimpressive one. Yes, it contained two future Hall of Famers (Tom Brady and Sebastian Janikowski) and one current one (Brian Urlacher), but as a whole, it featured relatively few Pro Bowlers and only a dozen or so names worth remembering nearly two decades later.

Courtney Brown, the first-overall pick in that draft out of Penn State, was not one of them. While his rookie season with the Browns was productive and healthy, it would be the only such season for Brown, as he’d never again approach his tackle total of 69, and would finish with just 19 sacks in a shortened, five-year career.

Tim Couch (QB):

Instagram Photo

Maybe you saw this coming. You definitely did. In the eyes of most NFL fans, Tim Couch is the definition of a draft bust. He just checks all the boxes.
Really good in college? Check.
Really not great in the NFL? Check.
Taken before much better quarterbacks in Donovan McNabb and Daunte Culpepper? Check.

While Couch had a good arm and just about zero talent around him on that expansion Brown’s team, he never showed that he could do enough to be a household name. He threw a couple of Hail Mary’s and even led the Browns to their last winning season, but by the end of his career, he was just another bust getting booed off the field during training camp. At least he can tell himself he’s not Akili Smith.

NCAA New Reforms: College Basketball Proposals & Must-See Details

On Wednesday, April 25, 2018, the “Commision of College Basketball” has called for a number of reforms within the NCAA system during a press conference. The commision was led by former Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice in which some new rules and regulations were recommended to help the college players, as well as the NCAA as a whole. The conference’s main focus was to help protect the college players who wish to be drafted to the NBA, as well as ending cheating within the NCAA system. The NCAA’s cheating environment is called “toxic” by the commision as it has given colleges great results and rewards in the past. The commission says that its reform will help the NCAA as a whole.

“One-and-Done” Rule

One of the most prominent points of interest within the press conference was the idea of getting rid of the “one-and-done” rule, which requires any player to at least play one year of college basketball, or in the least wait one year before joining the NBA. A big question about this is that the “one-and-done” rule is it was put into play by the NBA, not NCAA. The abolishment of the rule it would return to the days where players would be drafted to the NBA straight out of high school, like Kobe Bryant and Lebron James. If the “one-and-done” rule is not changed the commision states that they will try to find other ways of implementing this, such as preventing freshmen to get a multi-year scholarship if they choose to leave the program after only one year. The earliest time this abolition of the new rule won’t be until the 2020 draft.

Un-drafted Players

The commision also included reforms to help players who unfortunately end up going Un-drafted. The commision also wants to put in place a way for players who are not drafted to go back to college. The players who have declared themselves available for the draft, but then are not chosen can return to school, only if they do not sign some professional contract. The NCAA rules say that if a player hired an agent, then their college career is over, the commision wishes to change that rule in where if they have an agent, but do not sign a contract while they decide to enter the draft, they will be able to remain at the college level. The stipulation of this rule is, that if a player chooses to return, it must be at the same school where they left.

Cheating

The commision also requests harder punishments for those who cheat within the NCAA system. Rice states that the commision wishes to protect the athletes who are in a system which places winning over everything else. They want to to use neutral investigators to deal with these problems, as well as enforcing harsher punishments than the NCAA system already has. They wish to implement increases in penalties and restrictions. The commision feels as though the NCAA is not applying their rules well enough and in turn, it is hurting their players. The new rules would increase the penalties for many level 1 infraction such as a five-year post-season ban, as well as a loss of all postseason revenue.
