Mae Gladys Edwards, a 40-year-old Tanner High School teacher in Alabama, has been arrested and charged for being drunk in class on Tuesday, March 27.

Edwards, a 40-year-old family and consumer science teacher at Tanner High, was charged today with public intoxication and illegal possession of prohibited liquors. Both charges are misdemeanors.

Stephen Young, a spokesman for the Limestone County sheriff’s office, said that the school’s SRO arrested Edwards just around 1 p.m. said Stephen Young, a sheriff’s spokesman. School officials and the resource officer started investigating after a student reported the teacher was “behaving oddly.”

Young said a liquor bottle was found near the teacher’s desk.

via AL.com:

“We have no tolerance for this kind of alleged behavior on school property,” said Limestone County Schools Superintendent Tom Sisk. “It’s very troubling our kids were exposed to this kind of behavior.”

Furthermore, Mr. Sisk said the situation was handled “immediately and decisively.” Edwards is on paid leave while the school system investigates the incident. Based on the outcome, the superintendent said he will recommend how the school board should handle Edwards’ employment future.

According to reports, Edwards has worked at Tanner for less than one year. She was being held at the Limestone County Jail and a $1,000 bond.

Tanner High School, which serves students K-12, is located at 2060 Sommers Road in Athens, Alabama.

Here’s the true magic of film-making: I’m currently watching this documentary about Garry Shandling on HBO, and despite the fact that I was never really familiar with him before, I somehow miss him now. That is quality film-making: the ability to get the audience to care about a character they’ve never met before. That’s what Judd Apatow was able to accomplish with his new HBO documentary, The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling. If you get into those random “documentary modes” like I do, this one is definitely worth the watch, as it’s always interesting to learn about “pro’s pros.” Garry Shandling was a comedian’s comedian.

Anyway, on to COED’s Quick Fix: Everything You Need To Know Today — Wednesday, March 28, 2018

Pop Culture

– Like I said yesterday, I would have a review for AMC’s The Terror this morning, and it’s actually good. The premiere episode is actually two episodes mashed into one, clearly meant to be watched in one sitting. The atmosphere of the show in it of itself is terrifying enough for me & I’m looking forward to where the show leads. As Vox says, The Terror is a “near masterpiece of survival horror”.

Former Disney Channel Actress Caroline Sunshine Joins White House Press Team

Former Disney channel actress Caroline Sunshine is joining the White House team as a press assistant. Sunshine, just 22-years-old, became famous for her role as Tinka Hessenheffer in Shake It Up. Shake It Up was a Disney Channel show about teen dancers that ran from 2010 to 2013. Zendaya also appeared in the show Shake It Up. Sunshine also appeared in the 2010 film Marmaduke. Sunshine had also served as a White House intern before receiving a full-time job.

White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters released a statement to CNN about Sunshine:

“Caroline Sunshine was a White House intern. In college, she was involved with the American Enterprise Institute and an active member of her school’s Model United Nations team. Prior to her internship at the White House, Caroline interned for the Office of House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, the College Republican National Committee and the California Republican Party.”

6 Possible Tag Partners For Braun Stroman At Wrestlemania 34

0
0

For the past year, we have been lead to believe that Braun Stroman is a force of nature that no man can stop. Anytime he enters the ring opponents second guess themselves and their choice to take on the Monster Among Men. Any time he loses, which is few and far between, it’s under exceptional conditions. Always in the realm of the main event picture, Stroman has been built to be a major player for years to come. But for all of that, it seemed that there wasn’t a clear plan for him only weeks before the biggest show of them all was about to roll around. Wrestlemania 34. How were they going to get one of their biggest names in a storyline for The Showcase of the Immortals? Let’s feed him the Tag Team division.

On the March 12th edition of RAW Stroman won a Battle Royal for the right to challenge The Bar for their Tag Titles at ‘Mania– by himself. Raw GM Kurt Angle informed Stroman he would be allowed to challenge The Bar for their titles, as long as he gets himself a partner. As of March 26th, we still don’t know who it is. So I am going to take advantage of that and wax poetic on who it may be. Here are six people who I think could (or it would be fun to) be Braun Stroman’s Tag Team partner at Wrestlemania.

Bray Wyatt

Instagram Photo

As we saw on the March 19th edition of Raw, Woken Matt Hardy completed the deletion of Bray Wyatt in the Ultimate Deletion. In the closing moments of the Ultimate Deletion, the Woken Warrior pushed The Eater of Worlds into the Lake of Reincarnation at the Hardy Compound and disappeared. When Senior Benjamin checked the lake no body was found, only Wyatt’s lantern. Both in the story and out, this could be good for Wyatt.

Personally, I have been a huge fan of his but he has not been booked to his full potential. Now he can come back “reincarnated” into a new version of his character, repackaged and ready to go. Why not make that with former Wyatt family member Braun Stroman? When Stroman first came up he was a member of Wyatt’s cult-like family stable. Why not return the favor by giving the former leader a rub? We already know Wyatt can be gold on the mic, partner that with Stroman’s unstoppable strength? That could be a pretty fun duo to watch work together.

Big Cass

Instagram Photo

A lot has happened since Big Cass went down with an ACL injury during a match with former Tag Team partner Enzo Amore. At the time his newly minted heel run against his former friend wasn’t going as smooth as some wanted to. It wasn’t terrible but wasn’t great. Since leaving to take care of his injury, Amore has been released due to a sexual assault investigation. A great way to bring him in and get him back on track would be to pair him with Stroman. The tag division was where Cass thrived and he can thrive again.

How fun would it be to watch the two biggest guys on the roster run rough shot on the Raw tag division? Big Cass would be the nice giant and Stroman being the mean giant. All leading to the two breaking up and having a titanic blow off rivalry.

Neville

Instagram Photo

Things have been up in the air for the Man Gravity Forgot since he walked out on WWE in October. After a run as the Cruiserweight Champion, his frustrations with the company came to a head and the former King of the Cruiserweights and NXT Champion walked out on the company at a Raw taping. Since then Neville’s future has been uncertain. How great would it be if he came out at Wrestlemania?

Heel Neville was great and having these two guys who have such a chip on their shoulders together would work great. Also, the difference in style would be a joy to watch. With the small, high flying, high octane offense of Neville and the straightforward crushing force of Stroman the possibilities for combinations between the two are countless. I’d be in for it.

Pete Dunne

Instagram Photo

This one is unlikely, but I think would be great. The WWE seemingly had something great with UK Tournament but ever since its conclusion the UK Championship Title has been a little out to sea. Yes, the match where Pete Dunne beat inaugural Champion Tyler Bate at NXT Takeover: Chicago won NXT Match of the Year in 2017 and saw Dunne win the title–but how much have we really seen of it and him since? We’ve had a couple of appearances from the Bruiserweight and he has retained his title twice but we could be seeing so much more of him. What better way then putting him in short title run with Stroman? You get eyes on Dunne, you get eyes on the UK Championship, and you give a great performer screen time. I don’t see a downside, it’s not like it’s going to cut into his time for title defenses…

Samoa Joe

Instagram Photo

This would just be cool. Reports are Joe is ready to come back and currently, it doesn’t look like he has a clear story. Let’s see two of the strongest heels in the company wreck the competition for a bit before turning on each other. Since there is a strong chance Big Cass comes back as a face the potential follow up rivalry between these two would be a totally different Clash of the Titans. This would be just a slobber knocker of two heels kicking the crap out of the tag division before turning those fists on each other. Sounds fun to me.

The Revival

Instagram Photo

Ok, hear me out. I know the Revival is a tag team and there is little to no chance something like this would happen–but why not? If you made them a tag team with Stroman a la the Freebird Rule they would seem unstoppable. They would be the perfect antithesis to the Freebird Style team on SmackDown Live, The New Day. The New Day are an athletic, high energy, fun loving group. Perfect for SmackDown Live. The Revival’s saying is ‘No flips, just fists’ and who fits that better than The Monster Among Men? It would be perfect for Raw. Have Stroman come into the ring during each match and have Dash and Dawson rock, paper, scissors to see who will be his partner with him for said match. The three would be a hard-hitting machine. Then when Stroman returns to singles competition The Revival then go into a story to prove they never needed Stroman for the titles. After a monster burial on RAW25, The Revival deserve a push to show why they are former Match of the Year winners. And this could be it.

Regardless of who it ends up being, I hope that it benefits the division rather than hurts it. Honestly, it’s the best it’s been in years. Let’s not bury a whole lot of great superstars for the benefit of one.

Corey Feldman Net Worth 2018: How Much Is Corey Worth Today?

0
0

Corey Feldman is an American actor and singer, who is most well-known for a string of hit movies in the 1980s, including The Goonies, Gremlins, Stand By Me, and The Lost Boys. He also frequently partnered with actor Corey Haim, which earned them the moniker “The Two Coreys.” So, with that, let’s take a look at Feldman’s career, beginning with his net worth!

Corey Feldman Net Worth 2018: $2 Million.

As of 2018, Feldman’s reported net worth is around $2 million. He has earned this money through his acting and singing career, as well as other ventures. How did he make this much? Let’s take a closer look at his career.

The Early Years

Instagram Photo

Feldman was born on July 16th, 1971, in Reseda California, the son of a musician and a cocktail waitress. He began his acting career when he was just three years old, appearing in a McDonald’s commercial. As a child, Feldman acted in over 100 ads as well as 50 television series, including The Bad News Bears and Mork & Mindy. These acting jobs opened the door for his eventual rise during the 1980s when Feldman’s fame was at its highest.

The 1980s

Instagram Photo

Much of Feldman’s success was during the 1980s when he starred in many films now considered to be classics. His big hits included The Goonies, playing the role of “Mouth,” the most talkative member of the Goonies. He also portrayed Pete Fountaine in Gremlins, a friend of the main character.

In 1987, Feldman starred in The Lost Boys where he played a young vampire hunter. He would also play the character in the films two direct-to-DVD sequels. This was his first partnering with Corey Haim, one of his future frequent collaborators and friends. The “Two Coreys” remained close up until Haim’s death in 2009.

Feldman also had a well-publicized battle with drugs during the 1980s and 90s. He has also alleged that he and Haim were victims of child molestation throughout the 1980s.

The 1990s

Instagram Photo

He would continue to act during the 1990s and would even direct a film, Busted, where Haim played a leading role. It would be the last time the two men collaborated together. Following this, Feldman went on to act in a few different movies and TV series, none of which were all that successful.

Feldman also began exploring music, forming a band called Corey Feldman’s Truth Movement. The group has seen some success, and they have released five albums, the latest one coming in 2016.

2001-Present

Feldman went on to become something of a reality television star following the start of the new millennium. He started to appear in numerous reality shows including The Surreal Life, Dancing on Ice, Celebrity Wife Swap, and The Two Coreys.

In addition to reality television, Feldman continued to star in low budget films and released more music, he even starred in an Off-Broadway production called Fatal Attraction, A Greek Tragedy which was a parody of the movie Fatal Attraction.

4 Teams Odell Beckham Jr. May Play For In 2018

0
0

Odell Beckham Jr. may be the most naturally talented and athletic football player in the entire NFL. His ability on the field is game-changing, his explosiveness is nearly unmatched.  So why would the Giants be looking to move on form the best player on their football team? He has made numerous controversial decisions from taking a vacation to Miami days before a massive postseason game at the Packers, to his love affair with the kicking net, he has emerged as one of the most polarizing stars in the league. Let’s examine what team he might play for at the start of the 2018 season.

Cleveland Browns

Instagram Photo

The Browns are one of the few teams that could go get Beckham if they want to. They have the first and fourth overall picks in the 2018 NFL Draft, and the Giants would most likely accept a package including one of them. Jarvis Landry, the Browns’ newest addition to the wide receiver position has publicly lobbied Odell to rejoin his fellow LSU Tiger in Cleveland.  Beckham and Landry would form a pair of explosive receivers to go along with Josh Gordon for one of the league’s best-receiving cores.

Los Angeles Rams

Instagram Photo

The Rams are actively involved in trade discussions with the Giants regarding Beckham. The Rams have made several additions to their defense already this offseason and are looking primed to take another run at the NFC West, which is quickly becoming one of the best divisions in football. Going to play for an offensive mind like Sean McVay should appeal to Beckham as will knowing that he has a quarterback much younger and more talented than Eli Manning. Beckham has many endorsement deals, and those companies would worry about him moving to a smaller market team like the Browns but playing in sunny Los Angeles would present no such issue.

San Fransico 49ers

Instagram Photo

The 49ers are one of the teams most equipt to be able to give Beckham the long-term deal that he is demanding before he plays a snap next year. Their current receiving core seems a bit underwhelming with Pierre Garcon and Marquise Goodwin as the first and second options respectively. OBJ could be the key to the success of their offense, with newly minted starter Jimmy Garrupoloat QB and the offensive guru Kyle Shanahan as the Head Coach. The issue the 49ers may have is that while they clearly have the money to pay Odell, they may struggle to put together an attractive enough package for the Giants to be able to sell it to the fans.

New York Giants

Instagram Photo

Odell Beckham Jr. will more than likely be a New York Giant for a very long time. Odell explicitly said that he would not step onto any field without a long-term deal locked up. However, he needs to be active or on the PUP list for at least nine games this season to be eligible for free agency in the 2019 offseason. The Giants just moved on from longtime veteran and captain Jason Pierre-Paul in order to free up cap space to sign some of their younger talented players. If Odell plays this season without a new deal, the Giants can use the franchise tag on him in the 2019 and 2020 offseasons and keep him under team control until then.

Regardless of who Beckham plays for at the start of the 2018 season, he is an explosive and incredibly talented wide receiver that provides a weapon that will be a massive asset for any offense. It remains to be seen what will happen with OBJ, but with the NFL draft happening at the end of April, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a trade for him happen at some point before then or on draft day.

Which Alcohols To Avoid If You’re Going Through A Breakup

0

Shutterstock

We’ve all been there. And if you haven’t been there, then good for you. I guess? Or bad for you? Depends on what you value, really. Some people like being single, who are we to judge? Point is that most of us have gone through a breakup and have likely dealt with it through a little bit of partying. Probably a lot of partying, actually.

Now, while going out and having a good time can be a solid release for a broken heart, it can also lead down an unwanted road — whether it be sadness, anger, or otherwise. And a huge influence on what kind of night you end up having is what alcohol you begin the night with.

Having been there, done that, once or twice in my day, I figured its only right that I try to warn the up-and-coming romantics of the world which alcohols they should avoid when their heart does eventually get broken (obviously, none of this applies to the psychos who marry their high school sweethearts).

Gin

Shutterstock

First of all, you should be avoiding gin in general. Period, the end. If you ever find a girl who says her favorite type of alcohol is gin, you run. I knew a girl in college whose favorite alcohol was house gin — ya know, the cheap stuff that comes in a giant plastic handle — and wanna know how that one ended up? She ended up putting her high-heel through my glass window. Gin is like the Joker of alcohol: it almost exists for no other reason but to cause chaos. With all the other options out there, gin should always be the last choice.

Tequila

Shutterstock

Tequila is a different beast because, as our boy Forrest Gump once said, you never know what you’re gonna get, as its a type of alcohol that can either be a vehicle for the best or worst night of your life. When it comes to tequila, it all depends on your mindset going into the night: if you want to have a night of anger & destruction, it’ll get you there. If you want to have a night where you blackout and wake up with a solid 7.5, it’ll also get you there. On a night you’re going through something, I’d avoid it all together and stick to the traditional whiskey and beer.

Whiskey

Shutterstock

I’ve long considered whiskey to be the alcohol of bad guys. You’re always seeing villains like cowboys and gangsters drinking whiskey in the movies.  And I say this as a whiskey lover, in fact, whiskey is my alcohol of choice (especially in college, shout out $5 Jack & Cokes at Olde Queens) … on a regular night. Whiskey on a regular night is as good of a choice you can make when it comes to alcohol, but whiskey on a wild-card night — a night after a bad day at work, fight with your girlfriend, etc — can lead to a world of trouble. On a night you’re celebrating (?) a breakup, whiskey should be avoided all together.

MLB Awards 2018: Predictions, Favorites To Win & Season Preview

0
0

The 2018 MLB season is upon us, and if you are like me, it has felt like an eternity since last season ended. All 30 teams will be playing on opening day, March 29th for the first time. This begins one of my favorite times of the sports calendar year. We have the start of the MLB season, the Final Four, and NHL and NBA playoffs are right around the corner.

For me, baseball season is an everyday affair. My MLB season subscription is renewed and ready to go on every device I own. I have sat my girlfriend down and gave her fair warning on how the next few months will go. I explained to her once that first pitch is thrown on Opening Day I will be taking a hiatus from most of my relationship duties. Thankfully, this isn’t her first rodeo, and she has come accept the importance of America’s pastime. But, enough of that boring talk, let’s get down to my predictions for the MLB awards for the 2018 season.

AL MVP: Mookie Betts

This might come as a bit of a surprising pick to some, but I have full faith in Boston’s Betts. The easy and popular pick for most in this category is, Mike Trout. I would be remiss not to mention Trout when it comes to any MVP talk. I do believe he will have another one of his stellar seasons, but unlike 2016 Mookie Betts will top him.

Betts was a favorite pick heading into the 2017 season after finishing second to Trout in 2016. His 2017 season was very average for the type of production we have come accustomed to seeing from Betts. The entire Red Sox offense took a step back last season, mostly due to the departure of Red Sox legend David Ortiz. Without the protection, Ortiz provided it created a domino effect down the lineup. Betts went from hitting .318 avg 31 HR 113 RBI in 2016 to .264 avg 24 HR 102 RBI in 2017. With the addition of JD Martinez, it should provide similar security that Ortiz previously did. Mookie should see a significant rise in his batting average and with that will come the power numbers we saw just two seasons ago.

NL MVP: Bryce Harper

Instagram Photo

Bryce Harper will reclaim his throne as the best player in the National League. Last season Harper dealt with injuries only playing 111 games. He did put up impressive power numbers with 29 HR, 87 RBI, and a WAR of 4.7. Now, I know that is a far cry from his historic MVP season in 2015, but it shows how talented he truly is.

This year is a contract season for Harper, so you better believe he will be gearing up to put on a show. There are projections Harper could receive a $500 mil contract next offseason, if that’s not an incentive for him this year, I don’t know what is. The Washington Nationals and Harper have been on the cusp each of the past couples of seasons and will be looking to clear that hurdle. This will most likely be Harper’s last run in Washington, and I expect it to be his best one yet. Look for Harper to hit 35-40 HR and have a WAR near 10.

AL Cy Young: Chris Sale

Instagram Photo

For most of the 2017 season, Chris Sale was the clear favorite for the Cy Young award, but a poor showing over the last month of the season did him in. Cleveland Indians pitcher Corey Kluber came on strong at the end of 2017 and stole the award.

Sale is a strikeout artist and became the first AL pitcher since 1999 Pedro Martinez to toss over 300 strikeouts in a season. The first few months of the season have historically been Sale’s most dominate months. He has a tendency to fall off late in seasons due to his innings count being so high. This same issue occurred last season. Red Sox manager at the time John Farrell decided to keep Sale in late in games through the early part of the season, and as his innings started to pile up, Farrell did not cut back. I believe this is an issue Red Sox brass and new incoming manager Alex Cora will address. Sale will now be fresh the entire season, and there should not be a late September dip in production.

NL Cy Young: Stephen Strasburg

Stephen Strasburg has been prone to injury throughout his eight MLB seasons pitching over 200 innings just once in his career. Taking that into account I still trust Strasburg to put it all together this 2018 season and start 30+ games while tallying over 200+ innings for the Nationals.

Strasburg had a terrific end to last season, and I expect that to carry over. The last month of the 2017 season Strasburg posted a 0.83 ERA and went 4-0 in September. The stellar pitching continued in the playoffs as well. He pitched 14 innings without giving up an earned run with 22 strikeouts to go with it. If that type of pitching can be sustained over the course of a full season, Strasburg will run away with the award. Of course, that is easier said than done.

Marvel’s Skrull Easter Egg: What You Need To Know About Marvel’s Iconic Alien Villains

0
0

When Marvel Studios first announced that the Captain Marvel movie would feature Skrulls, comic fans everywhere were ecstatic. The green shapeshifting aliens had been a staple of the Marvel comic universe for decades and have featured in some of the most significant crossover events. Since their fellow aliens and mortal enemies, the blue-skinned Kree, have been a part of the MCU for a few years at this point, it only seems fair that the Skrulls finally make their cinematic debut.

But will Captain Marvel truly be their first appearance?

Excelsior!

Four years after its release, fans of Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) have spotted an interesting blink-and-you-miss-it Easter Egg relating to the Skrulls. While director James Gunn had initially intended to have some Skrulls in the movie or the sequel he ultimately decided against it due to time constraints, though not entirely as has now become apparent. The length of time it has taken to figure the Skrull reference out is relatively excusable considering it coincided with another fan-favorite Easter Egg: A Stan Lee appearance.

The Skrull writing spells ‘Excelsior’ one of Lee’s most iconic catchphrases.

A Secret Invasion?

While one word in their language might not be anything other than a wink and a nod to the comics in most cases, with the Skrulls, it could indicate far more significant implications.

The Skrulls are best known for their shapeshifting abilities and weaponizing the DNA and powers of superheroes for their own use. In a recent comic event, Skrulls managed to replace half of the world’s politicians, celebrities, and heroes with no one the wiser. Initially intended by Gunn or not, it could easily be the case in later movies that the shapeshifters have been present in one form or another throughout the GOTG movies, or even in other Marvel films.

This could even prove to be a plot point in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. With such a large focus on the cosmic world of Marvel, several alien species from the comics could make at least a cameo appearance. The Skrulls could easily be part of Thanos’s army, their abilities making them valuable spies and infiltrators.

Regardless of whether the Skrulls will be a crucial figure in Infinity War or retconned into past films, they will definitely be a big part of Captain Marvel.

Concept art for Captain Marvel (2019) featuring Skrulls

Captian Marvel debuts March 8, 2019. Set in the 1990’s before the events of the rest of the MCU, it stars Brie Larson as the titular hero and Samuel L. Jackson as a younger Nick Fury.

Judge Dismisses Involuntary Manslaughter Charges In Timothy Piazza’s Case

CBS

A judge has thrown out involuntary manslaughter charges and some of the other most serious remaining charges against 11 of the former Penn State fraternity members arrested in connection to the death of Timothy Piazza. Piazza passed away on February 4, 2017, after suffering major internal injuries from a fall during pledge night activities at the Beta Theta Pi house at Penn State.

According to reports, District Judge Allen Sinclair has dismissed the charges of involuntary manslaughter and recklessly endangering against all 11 defendants who were part of the hearing that began on Friday, March 23. However, all five of the defendants still face multiple charges, including counts of recklessly endangering another person, hazing and furnishing. Five of the 11 members will still go to trial on some of the charges.  This is the second time Judge Allen Sinclair has rejected the involuntary manslaughter charges in the case.

Originally, the fraternity members charged were President Brendan Young, Daniel Casey, Jonah Neuman, Nick Kubera Michael Bonatucci, Gary Dibileo, Luke Visser and Joe Sala. Michael Angelo Schiavone, Craig Heimer, Lars Kenyon Parker Jax Yochim, Ed Gilmartin, Ryan McCan, Lucas Rockwell, Braxton Becker, Ryan Foster and Joseph Ems were also charged.

via StateCollege.com:

Fraternity president Brendan Young and pledgemaster Daniel Casey each had one count of conspiracy to commit hazing, a newly added charge by the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office, held for trial. Gary DiBileo, Luke Visser and Michael Bonatucci also had new charges of furnishing alcohol to minors and related liquor code violations bound over.

For six defendants, all refiled and new charges considered during the hearing were dismissed. Each of the 11 defendants still also face charges that were bound over after the first preliminary hearing, including counts of recklessly endangering another person, hazing and furnishing.

“We will move forward with our case and the charges that were held for trial today,” Attorney General Josh Shapiro said in a statement. “I am disappointed by the decision of the Magisterial District Judge and we are assessing our legal options. My office is committed to seeking justice for Timothy Piazza and his family and holding responsible individuals accountable for their actions, consistent with the law and the evidence in this case.”

Piazza, 19, was a 2015 graduate of Hunterdon Central Regional High School in Readington Township. He was a pledge of the fraternity’s Alpha Upsilon Chapter. Piazza was studying engineering while attending the university.

He also played football and track when he was in high school. He was a member of the homecoming court in 2014, and also served as a Red Devil ambassador at Hunterdon Center and on the school’s Teen Prevention Education Program. He did volunteer work to help teach children with special needs how to play sports such as football, basketball, and baseball.

Piazza’s death spurred a cascade of changes in the Penn State greek life community. On March 30, Penn State levied hard sanctions against greek life focused on hazing. These changes altered the rules for how fraternities and sororities can recruit members and host social events with alcohol. Beta Theta Pi was also permanently banned from Penn State.

Your bracket’s been busted for weeks. You’ll never see Grayson Allen play for the Blue Devils again. Loyola-Chicago and Sister Jean are taking no prisoners. These are the facts of 2018 March Madness, weird as they may be. The Final Four will, at long last, descend upon San Antonio this weekend, and while the 2018 NCAA Tournament has been nothing short of unpredictable, it’s been far from disappointing. Here are the stories you should be paying attention to before you tune in on Saturday night.

What Seed?

Only two No. 1 seeds have survived. And come April 2, only one will have made it to the National Championship game. Kansas and Villanova will face off on Saturday, and it’s billed to be a shootout. No, really–both teams are monstrous on the perimeter. The Jayhawks boast seniors Devonté Graham and Svi Mykhailiuk, who have combined to connect on 220 threes this year. That’s a (watered-down) Steph & Klay-type stat. Don’t forget that Graham and Mykhailiuk have four years of chemistry to work off of: despite two vastly different journeys, Kansas would bring them together as roommates, best friends, and a terrifying offensive tandem. Don’t put it past them to erupt against Villanova. They want to graduate National Champions.

Villanova will be putting up a two-tiered fight. Defensively, they’re going to put Kansas through hell. They’re averaging a winning margin of 18.25 points through the tournament, allowing just 64 points per contest, freezing opponents in their tracks. Villanova struggled offensively against Texas Tech in the Elite Eight, scoring 71, a tournament-low for them; still, they won by 12, proving that they have the endurance to get it done on defense even when the shots aren’t falling. The Wildcats are led by NBA draft prospect Mikal Bridges, their 21-year-old defensive leader, who also happens to shoot 43.6% from three. His averages are down through the tournament though, and Villanova is going to need Bridges to make a statement against the Jayhawks if they want an opportunity to play on April 2nd.

Sister Jean vs. Michigan

Loyola-Chicago is only the fifth double-digit seed to play in the Final Four in NCAA history. Not one of the previous four advanced to the Championship game. But Loyola looks minted to break that streak, and hardly anyone would be surprised to see them extend their Cinderella run. The No. 11 seed has divine help, after all: their emotional leader Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt has, at 98 years old, magnetized the NCAA spotlight.

Instagram Photo

Sister Jean is much more than a mascot nun. As team chaplain, she leads the team in prayer before every tipoff, but also offers genuine basketball advice and analysis. A former player herself, Sister Jean does scouting reports. While Sister Jean has been rendered “darling” by the media, she is, in truth, a coach if not an honorary teammate. After all, she’s been around for decades and was with the Ramblers in 1963 when they won the NCAA title. 55 years later, Charles Barkley is trying to score a date with her, and she’s not too impressed. Sister Jean is focused on winning.

Instagram Photo

Loyola is going to have to get through No. 3 Michigan, who have employed a scare tactic: Jalen Rose’s 100-year-old grandmother. Rose, the former Fab Fiver, posted a video of his “grammie” on Instagram. The centenarian addresses Jean: “It’s been a good ride. But it’s over Saturday.” Taking out Sister Jean would put Michigan over the top, but it isn’t likely. Instead, they’ll have to shut down Ben Richardson and Clayton Custer, defend the three as if life depends on it, and pray against Sister Jean that the Ramblers’ luck runs out.

So Much for the Draft Prospects

It’s been a tough few weeks for most of the NCAA players expected to be chosen as lottery picks in the 2018 NBA Draft. Mikal Bridges is the only top prospect remaining in the tournament. For a disappointed handful, their March Madness rite of passage lasted somewhere between two and six hours.

Rhode Island and Oklahoma opened the tournament, and the Rams wasted no time sending Trae Young back to Norman to pack up his dorm room. Five days after Oklahoma’s overtime loss in Pittsburgh, Young officially announced his intent to forego NCAA eligibility and declare for the Draft. In the essay written for ESPN, Young reminisces on the Oklahoma City Thunder games he’d attended as a kid, where he was treated to hometown heroes Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook; he’d ogle traveling superstars in Kyrie Irving, Damian Lillard, and of course Steph Curry, to whom he’s been compared and by whom he’s been called “unbelievable”. Trae Young, at 19, is ready to join their ranks. He has been linked to the Knicks, and would be a nice piece of a developing young core which includes Emmanuel Mudiay, Frank Ntilikina and the pink unicorn himself, Kristaps Porzingis.

In the first bracket-buster of the tournament, No. 4 Arizona was blown out by No. 13 Buffalo in the first round. The Wildcats’ Deandre Ayton grabbed a signature double-double, but it was nowhere near enough to save Arizona from an embarrassing early exit. On March 21st, Ayton declared for the NBA Draft in a series of tweets, including a video compilation of his Wildcats highlights. It’s widely speculated that Deandre will be taken first, and the Bahamian big man is set to do great things for whichever team–Grizzlies, Suns, or Hawks–tanks hard enough to earn him.

Many saw Spartans where Wolverines stand today. But when No. 3 Michigan State was edged by No. 11 Syracuse in the second round, the pride of the Great Lakes shifted to blue shoulders. Draft prospects Miles Bridges and Jaren Jackson Jr. were ineffective in their disappointing NCAA finale, but today they can focus on their futures. On March 28th, Bridges announced he’d forego his junior and senior years at Michigan State to enter the Draft; Jackson hasn’t declared yet, but he’ll likely follow in his teammate’s footsteps soon. Bridges, the “skinny kid from Flint,” thanked his coach Tom Izzo, his teammates, his academic support team, and Spartan Nation in his Twitter announcement. Bridges has hired high-profile agent Rich Paul, and will join a Klutch Sports team which includes John Wall, Ben Simmons, and LeBron James.

Bridges, a versatile shooting guard/small forward, averaged 17 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.1 blocks in two seasons for Michigan State. He is projected to be taken somewhere between 10 and 12, and could join Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, and Markelle Fultz in Philadelphia.

Jackson, the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, will probably be taken before teammate Bridges. He could be drafted in the top 5 by the Orlando Magic or even the Cleveland Cavaliers, who will have Brooklyn’s pick.

Miles Bridges Declares For The 2018 NBA Draft

As was expected by many, Michigan State sophomore Miles Bridges today announced his intention to enter June’s NBA Draft. He is likely a lottery pick.

The Flint, Michigan native entered the college basketball universe in 2016 as a top ten prospect. Expected to be a one-and-doner, Bridges averaged 17 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 blocks on a disappointing MSU Spartan team that only garnered an eight seed in the NCAA tournament. The Spartans would win a game against Miami before falling to current NBA rookie Josh Jackson and top-seeded Kansas. Entering the 2017 NBA draft season, Bridges was considered a lottery lock and an elite forward prospect. He surprised many when he announced that he would forgo the draft and return to Michigan State for his sophomore year to learn and grow.

Bridge’s numbers this season were quite similar to those he put up as a first year in 2016-2017. He put up 17 points once again, one less rebound and half an assist more. The key difference was that this season the team around him was much better. With the addition of fellow likely lottery pick Jaren Jackson Jr and the growth of pure PG Cassius Winston, three-point shooter Joshua Langford and bigman sophomore Nick Ward, Michigan State won 30 games and earned a 3 seed in the Tourney. A promising season ended prematurely when the Spartans could not answer to eleventh seeded Syracuse and their grit and grind 2-3 zone.

Instagram Photo

Bridges is expected to fall somewhere in the mid or late lottery, landing anywhere conceivably from six to fourteen. Pundits say he shows ceiling potential as an athletic twenty-plus a game scorer who will need to improve his ball-handling, effort, and facilitating to achieve an all-star level of play that he is capable of. Even if he never exactly puts it all together, he can still be a multi-dimensioned secondary piece in the mold of Trevor Ariza or Warriors-era Andre Iguodala; the kind of passer-shooter-rebounder-defender that championship teams need. He is an ideal stretch 4 in today’s league, what with his strength, athleticism and rebounding ability/instincts.

One team that has come up as a potential destination in the draft for Bridges is the New York Knicks, who have stated their interest in drafting a forward to play between Kristaps Porzingis and Frank Ntilikina and are in his realistic draft range. Other teams of intrigue that could select Miles are the Cleveland Cavaliers, looking to add a promising prospect to dissuade Lebron James from leaving in free agency, the Chicago Bulls with their up-and-coming core and the rebuilding Charlotte Hornets.

Megyn earned a degree in political science from Syracuse University in 1992 and later received a J.D. from Albany Law School in 1995. She then moved onto her career in the law field, becoming an associate in a Chicago law office. While still working in the Chicago office, she co-wrote an article for the American Bar Association’s journal, Litigation, called “The Conflicting Roles of Lawyer as Director.” She then spent the next nine years in the international law firm Jones Day before moving onto television.

Megyn Kelly got yuge attention in August 2015 for the Republican Party’s presidential debate. And I mean yuge! She called out The Donald himself for comments he made towards certain women that could have been deemed as sexist and body shaming. Trump was so upset with Kelly’s comments that he didn’t show up to the Iowa debate on January 28, 2016.

In May 2016, she hosted a one-hour prime-time special on Fox, where she interviewed celebrities from the spheres of “politics, entertainment, and other areas of human interest.” This special received 4.8 million viewers. 2016 was also Kelly’s last year on contract with Fox News, so contract negotiations were intense (she wanted to get a raise similar to Bill O’Reilly’s current yearly salary, which would be $20 million annually). But Kelly’s relationship with Fox News is a bit rocky. She alleged that Roger Ailes sexually harassed her while employed for the company. She makes this revelation in her memoir Settle For More.

In 2017, Kelly left Fox News for NBC.

Top 10 Highest Paid Players In The NHL For The 2017-2018 Season

The 2017-2018 NHL regular season will be coming to a close in less than two weeks. The NHL playoffs, to me, are the most exciting of any professional sports league. You’ll have the double sometimes triple overtime games, the goalie who stands on his head and carries his team, and a lower seed who seemingly always makes a run. Let’s take a look at the top 10 highest paid players and see whether their contracts have turned into a playoff appearance for their respective teams.

These are the top 10 players per salary in the NHL according to Spotrac.

The golden boy of the NHL Sidney Crosby comes in at number 6 on our list. Crosby is a former first overall pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins and a three-time Stanley Cup champion(2009,2016,2017). He is currently in his 13th season with the Penguins. Crosby has tallied more than 100 points in five of his season with a season-high of 120 points. The Pittsburgh Penguins occupy the second place in the Metropolitan Divison of the Eastern Conference.

He is known for being one of the best offensive-defenseman in the NHL. Subban has also garnered the reputation as a tough, cocky, player from his peers and the media. Subban’s Nashville Predators sit in first-place on the Western Conference and have guaranteed themselves a playoff spot.

The defenseman for the Montreal Canadiens comes in at number four. Shea Weber is a long-time veteran of the league playing his 13th NHL season. Webber is a big physical defenseman who has played for the Nashville Predators(11 seasons) and Canadiens(2 seasons). Weber and Subban, the guy right behind him on this list, were involved in a player swap that sent Weber to Montreal and Subban to Nashville. The Montreal Canadiens are eliminated from the 2018 NHL playoffs.

The Captain of the Dallas Stars Jamie Benn is next on the list. Benn has become one of the best players in the NHL over his nine seasons in the league. He has scored over 20 goals in all of his seasons except one, which came during a lockout-shortened campaign in 2012-2013. The Dallas Stars are currently on the outside looking in of the NHL playoffs.

1. Teammates Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews – $13,800,000

Instagram Photo

Two members of the Chicago Blackhawks top the list of the highest paid players in the NHL, Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews. It’s no surprise that two Blackhawks are at the top of this list as they have been the most successful franchise in the NHL over the past ten years. Kane and Toews have won three Stanley Cups(2010,2013,2015) and have been to another two conference finals(2009 and 2014) as teammates. This 2018 season has been one to forget for the two highest paid players in the league, as Chicago has been eliminated from postseason play for the first time since the 2007-2008 season.

So, to recap the three highest paid players in the league will not be extending their seasons into the playoffs, with an overall total of four from the list. That leaves six players who are receiving hefty paychecks in playoff contention.

Three Young English Premier League Managers To Look Out For

Arsenal FC currently holds sixth place in the English Premier League, which is not something to scoff at. Nonetheless, the club failed to qualify for the Champions League last season and has not won the Premier League title in 14 years. Fingers are pointed at Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger. The 68-year-old has been with the club for 22 years, but now this is set to change. Critics are starting to look towards younger managers to take control of the league as it’s thought the younger managers have sharper minds, better physical strength, and a fresher outlook on the game. The league appears to have adopted the mindset of “out with the old, in with the new.” Evidence of this can be seen in recent rumors regarding Wenger’s potential replacement, Thomas Tuchel. The former German soccer manager and player is only 44 years old. Here are three other younger managers in the league that are giving the older managers a run for their money.

Pep Guardiola

Instagram Photo

The Spaniard was previously regarded as one of the best players of his generation. Now as the manager of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola has done an excellent job. The 47-year-old has been Manchester City’s manager since 2016, and prior to that, he coached FC Bayern Munich. Following Guardiola’s philosophy of committing fewer tackles and maintaining more possession, Manchester City has earned their spot as first in the Premier League for the 2017/2018 season. Out of 30 games, they have lost only one. Presently, Manchester City is among the top eight in the Champions League and there’s a very strong possibility they could win it.

Mauricio Pochettino

Instagram Photo

The former Argentinian player became manager of Tottenham Hotspur in May 2014. Since then, Tottenham has experienced 101 wins and only 44 losses. Tottenham’s stellar performance this season can largely be contributed to the 46-year-old’s coaching style. Mauricio Pochettino is vocal, competitive and pushes his players nearly to their breaking points in training. Pochettino has been known to hold drills in which he doesn’t relay the time to the players, causing them to work longer and harder. Tottenham is ranked fourth in the Premier League and out of 30 matches, they lost five. In terms of creating a promising future for the club, back in January of this year, Pochettino started a program within the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation to train younger players who want to pursue a career in coaching.

Eddie Howe

Instagram Photo

At 40 years old, Eddie Howe is practically a newborn compared to 68-year-old Wenger. As the youngest manager in the league, Howe became the caretaker boss of AFC Bournemouth in 2009, saving the team from relegation at the time. Prior to this, he was a former defender for Bournemouth. Since procuring his managerial position in 2012 with the club, Howe has made significant strides. In 2015, under his guidance, Bournemouth was promoted to the Premier League. The team currently holds the tenth spot in the 2017/2018 season; however, their play has earned them wins over both Chelsea and Arsenal. Howe’s modest method of coaching coupled with his philosophy to attack and possess has rewarded him with much respect and consequently, the third spot on this list.

Stand-up comic, Television Actor and Game Show Host, Drew Carey has been in the entertainment business for over 30 years. Beginning his entertainment career in 1986 Carey has been able to keep himself in the public eye through the decades while also bringing some laughs with him along the way. But how exactly has this The Price is Right host precisely worth?

In years in entertainment, Drew Carey has acquired himself a good amount of wealth equating to about $165 Millon. Through his some different jobs in the entertainment business, Drew Carey was able to make himself a staple in the industry and able to raise his stock up quite a bit. Drew Carey was born on May 23, 1958, in Cleveland, Ohio where he was the youngest of three brothers. Katie Hoaldridge is the girlfriend of NHL hockey player Jamie Benn. Benn is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward who currently serves as captain of the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League. According to her LinkedIn, Hoaldridge graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a bachelors degree in Radio-Television-Film with a focus in Audio Production.

Hoaldridge’s boyfriend is Jamie Benn, a Canadian professional ice hockey forward who currently serves as captain of the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League. Benn played his junior hockey career with the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL prior to turning professional. In 2009, he represented Canada at the 2009 World Junior Championships, winning a gold medal.
With Team Canada, he won a gold medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. He is the younger brother of defenseman Jordie Benn, who plays for the Montreal Canadiens. In the 2014–15 season, Benn was awarded the Art Ross Trophy as the league’s leading scorer with 87 points.

On July 15, 2016, Benn agreed to an eight-year, $76 million contract extension with Dallas that runs through the 2024-25 NHL season at an average annual value of $9.5 million.

While I was writing up a hockey post about the highest paid players in the NHL, one of the players I came across was Jamie Benn of the Dallas Stars. I went onto his Instagram and noticed a beautiful blonde girl in a lot of his photos. So, naturally, in a non-creepy way, I had to find out who she was. It turns out to be Benn’s girlfriend Katie Hoaldridge, a former track athlete from the University of Texas. Jamie Benn might be the captain of the Dallas Stars, but his greatest accomplishment was finding this goddess.

Instagram Photo

Yea, I’d be smiling too.

Katie Hoaldridge attended the University of Texas where she competed on the cross-country team. Hoaldridge was three-time All-Big 12 and an Academic All-Big 12 recipient in 2012. She graduated with a degree in radio, television, and film.

Hoaldridge’s boyfriend, Jamie Benn, signed an eight-year, $76 million contract extension with Dallas that runs through the 2024-25 NHL season at an average annual value of $9.5 million, so if she plays her cards right, her degree from Texas won’t even matter.
