Jennifer Gray Golick, 42, is one of three female victims who was shot dead on Friday evening during a shooting/hostage crisis at the Veterans Home of California in Yountville. Golick was a high-ranking psychologist at the Pathway Home, as well as a loving wife and mother.

The shooter has been identified as 36-year-old Army infantryman Albert Wong. He was found dead, along with the three victims, as authorities entered the room of the hostage crisis shortly before 6 P.M. Friday night. 42-year-old Jennifer Golick, a staff pathologist at The Pathway Home, was one of the deceased victims. The two other victims have been identified as 48-year-old Christine Loeber and 32-year-old Jennifer Gonzales.

The Pathway Home is located within the larger Veterans Home of California in Yountville. Each victim worked for The Pathway Home, which provides counseling services to veterans sufferring with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

“They lived their lives selflessly to serve others,” said Yountville Mayor John Dunbar. “Each of them brought energy, vitality, personality to their jobs and that’s so critical when we’re talking about supporting our veterans.”

Dunbar also called the three victims, “beautiful people.”

Who Is Jennifer Golick?

Jennifer Golick served as a staff pathologist at The Pathway Home. She is also a certified clinical director from St. Helena. Golick was employed at the teen treatment center at Muir Wood Adolescent and Family Services for five years before moving onto a job at The Pathway Home, according to Scott Sowle, the executive director at Muir Wood Adolescent and Family Services.

Sowle took to Facebook on Saturday to write that Golick had helped “countless families heal.”

“The boys at Muir Wood would literally line up at her office door waiting for her to arrive in the morning,” Sowle said, writing that Golick was “one of the brightest I’ve known, always with a big, warm smile and just the right words to say.”

Golick had a daughter named Makena and a husband named Mark. She had left Muir Wood in order to get closer to her family, according to Sowle.

“They were high school sweethearts,” Sowle said. “Family was everything to her. If there is a place where the best of us go after this life, Jennifer is most certainly there.”

Robert Crosland, a junior high school teacher at Preston Junior High is under investigation after he reportedly fed a puppy to a snapping turtle in front of his students.

According to reports, it is unclear if the dog was still alive when it was fed to the snapping turtle. While the incident happened after school hours, some students apparently witnessed the feeding.

Administrators began investigating the incident immediately, according to Gee, and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office was contacted. Crosland has not been cited or charged and has not been placed on leave, Gee said.

“A part of any investigation includes determining the best course of action once the facts of the matter have been ascertained. This is not a situation that is easy, nor do we feel it is a measure that can be taken lightly,” Gee said.

Crosland is a popular teacher who has exotic snakes and other animals in tanks around his classroom, according to multiple parents and students who contacted EastIdahoNews.com. Three former students, who asked not to be named, said they recall Crosland feeding guinea pigs to snakes and snapping turtles during classroom demonstrations.

“He is a cool teacher who really brought science to life,” a former student says. “I loved his class because he had turtles and snakes and other cool things.”

Gee says the district is taking steps to ensure “this type of action could not be repeated” and asked for patience while the investigation commences.

Idaho’s Preston School District released a statement:

On March 7, 2018 Preston School District was made aware of a regrettable circumstance involving some of the biological specimens at Preston Jr. High. The event occurred well after students had been dismissed and was not a part of any school directed program. We emphasize that at no time was the safety of students or staff compromised.

District administration was made aware of the issue soon after it occurred and immediately began the process of investigation and taking steps to ensure that this type of action could not be repeated. A part of any investigation includes determining the best course of action once the facts of the matter have been ascertained. This is not a situation that is easy, nor do we feel it is a measure that can be taken lightly. As such we ask for patience while appropriate measures are determined and carried out.

Additional details cannot be shared at this time as the local law enforcement agency is in the process of gathering information.

While the district certainly does not condone individual actions that may violate district policy or reasonable expectations of behavior, we hope that any errors in judgement made by a teacher in this instance will not cause us to forget the years of care, effort, and passion the teacher has given to students in Preston School District.

Franklin County Sheriff David Fryar says the department is looking into the incident.

Craig Mack, the rapper known for ‘Flava in Ya Ear,’  died of a heart failure at a hospital near his Walterboro, South Carolina. He was 46-years-old.

Mack was an American rapper who gained fame on Puff Daddy’s Bad Boy Entertainment record label in the 1990s. He is best known for his 1994 hit single “Flava In Ya Ear”, which was released under his real name.

According to Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey, Mack died at his home in Walterboro around 9 p.m. EST on Monday, March 13. Furthermore, Harvey said it appeared Mack died of natural heart failure.

During his career, Craig Mack released three studio albums: Project: Funk da World, Operation: Get Down, and The Mack World Sessions.

Claudia O’Doherty is an actress known for playing Bertie on the Netflix romantic comedy TV show Love. Before coming to the United States to become an actress, O’Doherty was an accomplished comedian in Australia, winning the 2009 Melbourne Fringe Best Comedy Award and the Brisbane Comedy Festival Award.

Before her breakout role as the adorable Bertie on Judd Apatow’s adored Netflix series, O’Doherty appeared several times on the podcast Comedy Bang! Bang! and also acted on one episode of the Comedy Bang! Bang! TV series.

All things considered, it’s been quite quiet on the Game Of Thrones front over the last couple of months. Post-production of the final season is currently underway, meaning the actor’s lips are essentially sealed until the premiere and the writers and producers are all locked in a room making the whole damn thing.

However, silence is not necessarily a sign of inaction — in fact, it couldn’t be further from the case. While speaking at a recent panel, HBO Senior V.P. of Drama Francesca Orsi said that the network is planning “three, four, five spin-offs” of Game of Thrones.

Now, while there is still no word on what the spin-offs will be, we do know that none of them will be based on Robert’s Rebellion, which is a shame (HBO had previously said the prequel will not be based on Robert’s Rebellion, but who knows, they may have changed their minds since). Either way, the fact that they’re planning multiple means we’re going to have Game Of Thrones-related programming on HBO for at least the next decade.

Martin. The move marks the first time that HBO will revisit one of its iconic shows.

Orsi also promised that the final season of GoT will not disappoint. A table read of the last few episodes with the show’s cast, she said, “was a really powerful moment in our lives and our careers. None of the cast had received the scripts prior, and one by one they started to fall down to their deaths. By the end, the last few words on the final script, the tears just started falling down. Then there was applause that lasted 15 minutes.”

The eighth and final season of Game Of Thrones is expected to premiere sometime in early 2019. In the meantime, we have Westworld:

Ricky Gervais is one of the biggest comedians in the world, known for his dark, uncomfortable and particularly British brand of humor. (He’s British. So that makes sense). With the release of his newest stand-up special through Netflix, titled Humanity, we decided to take a look back at how The Office creator came to be one of the richest comedians on the planet.

With nearly $100 million to his name, Ricky Gervais holds the current benchmark for comedians with the riches to match their fanfare. So how did he get here? Take a look below and find out:

Early Life & Career Beginnings: 1961 – 1998

Gervais, 56, was born on June 25, 1961 in Reading, England. He began attending University College London in 1980, changing his major from biology to philosophy within the first two weeks. It was during this time that he met Jane Fallon, whom he’s been in a relationship with since 1982.

Gervais held a number of odd jobs throughout the 1980s, acting as manager for the band Suede prior to their mainstream breakthrough and even embarking on a musical career of his own in the band Seona Dancing. While Seona Dancing never achieved success, they were signed for a time to London Records, with whom they released two singles — “More to Lose” and “Bitter Heart” — the former of which became something of a teen anthem in the Philippines.

In the 1990s, Gervais began working in radio, eventually moving to head of speech at alternative radio station Xfm. It was here that Gervais would meet his longtime-collaborator Stephen Merchant, whose application to be Gervais’ assistant at the radio station was the only one Gervais even looked at before hiring him. In 1998, as Xfm was being purchased by Capital Radio, leaving Gervais’ job in jeopardy, he was getting his first television exposure on Channel 4’s “Comedy Lab” pilots. Gervais and Merchant would end up producing a pilot about a video store owner who has an unhealthy obsession with David Bowie, titled Golden Years. 

Breakthrough Success and Stardom: 2000 – 2018

In 2000, Gervais and Merchant were given the green light for a full pilot of The Office, the result of a short film Merchant had been commissioned to make while on a BBC production course. While the show didn’t initially ‘wow’ audiences, word-of-mouth and DVD sales following the first season led to increased anticipation for the second season. Following the second season, Gervais was named the most powerful person in TV comedy by the Radio Times. In 2004, The Office would win a Golden Globe Award for Best Television series: Musical or Comedy, becoming the first British comedy to ever win the award.

Following the end of The Office, Gervais made a jump to stand-up comedy and films, achieving success in both fields rather quickly. Gervais went on three major comedy tours, titled Animals, Fame, and Politics respectively, between 2003 and 2007. He wrote, directed, produced and starred in the movie The Invention of Lying in 2009, and did the same for the film Cemetery Junction in 2010. 

His other television pursuits since The Office have likewise received a great deal of popularity and acclaim. In total, Gervais has created and starred in six television shows since The Office: Extras, The Ricky Gervais Show, An Idiot Abroad, Derek, Life’s Too Short, and the game show Child Support.

Gervais has hosted the Golden Globe Awards four times, doing so most recently in 2016.

The film stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Jude Law and Johnny Depp. It is a sequel to 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them and continues the story of Newt Scamander, the eccentric tamer of mythical beasts and monsters. According to the film’s Wikipedia page, the plot is summarized like this:

“At the end of the first film, the powerful dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander. But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.”

The Harry Potter universe has a rabid fanbase, and while reactions to the first Fantastic Beasts film was mixed, people are always clamoring for more adventures in this magical universe, so the anticipation is as high as ever for this one.

The film has garnered some controversy regarding its casting, as Johnny Depp, playing the evil wizard Grindelwald, had allegedly been physically abusive to his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard. However, no charges were ever brought against Depp, and the filmmakers remained steadfast in their commitment to the casting of Depp.

The movie is guaranteed to be a smash hit, as the Harry Potter franchise is known the world over and has raked in billions of dollars during its entire run and this new movie is sure to kill at the box office as well.

Jhené Aiko is an American singer and songwriter who began her music career contributing vocals and appearing in several music videos for R&B group B2K.

Police at California State University, Monterey Bay are investigating a suspicious person with a possible weapon on campus. Early morning Tuesday, around 10:30 A.M., an alert was sent out to students, with police detailing the suspicious person as a white man, 5 foot 4 inches tall with straight hair, a thin build, dark-colored clothing, a backpack and possibly a weapon at their side.

What happened?

The school’s official Twitter account has released the following updates:

“The @CSUMB_PD is currently responding to a report of a suspicious person on campus with a possible weapon at his side. This person has not yet been located. UPD is actively searching for the subject.”

“The subject is described as a white male, 5 ft 4 inches with straight hair and a slim build. Subject is wearing dark clothing, wearing a backpack and may have a weapon at his side. All suspicious activity should be reported to 911.”

“Follow @CSUMB twitter or http://csumb.edu homepage for updates as they become available.”

“UPD has made contact with the subject and confirmed NO threat to campus. Subject was carrying an umbrella. Thank you @CSUMB_UPD for your diligent response to this incident.”

UPDATE: It was later confirmed by the school that authorities made contact with the suspicious person and there had been no threat to the campus, with the suspicious item originally believed to be a weapon now believed to be an umbrella.

Exactly one month since the shooting massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, thousands of students and teachers are planning to have walkouts throughout the country on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, dubbed the #Enough! National School Walkout, in order to raise awareness of school safety and gun violence. However, the upcoming protest has sparked controversy among schools throughout the United States, with some threatening suspension for students who participate.

What will happen?

Organized by Women’s March Youth Empower, the nationwide walkout is expected to start at 10 A.M. and will last around 17 minutes; the time is intended to honor the 17 people who lost their lives in the shooting. On their official Twitter account, the group released the following statement:

“On Wednesday, students across the nation are walking out of class to demand Congress act NOW to end gun violence. Join us March 14th at 10am across time zones. #ENOUGHhttp://womensmarch.com/enough”

On the official Women’s March website, tips were given explaining on how to host a walkout; according to Action Network, this included wearing orange, the color representing movement, to showcase solidarity, hosting sign-making events, asking schools to host assemblies discussing the issues before or even after the walkout and writing letters to Congress. It was also stressed that activities not willingly exclude people and be non-violent, advocating for the Women’s March Unity Principles.

In addition, the website also offered a tool-kit, which could also be downloaded as a PDF. Essentially an expansion of the aforementioned tips, the tool-kits reminded that people should take precaution that whatever action taken be performed in a safe manner, also advising students let their school officials know what is happening beforehand:

“Have conversations with your school administration or school resource officer to help determine best practices that take into account the safety of all students. If walking outside is not a safe option then consider walking-out into hallways, congregate in your school gym, or simply stand up in your classroom for 17 minutes. We encourage adults not to join walkouts on school campuses unless they work there or have been directly invited by the school’s administration.”

In addition, it was also advised that students, or whoever was participating in the walkouts in general, do whatever they need to help stress the importance of community:

“This is YOUR 17-minute walkout! You can circle your school holding hands, you can stage your walkout in your school’s hallway, you can hold a lie-in on school grounds, or any other action that makes sense for you and your community.”

How are schools reacting to this?

According to CNN, some schools also warned that students could have punishment for participating in the upcoming walkouts. In one example, the Needville Independent School District in Texas issued a warning that students who participated in the walkout or similar protest would risk a three-day suspension. Superintendent Curtis Rhodes confirmed this with the following statement on Facebook, but has since been taken down, according to CNN:

“Life is all about choices and every choice has a consequence whether it be positive or negative. We will discipline no matter if it is one, fifty, or five hundred students involved. All will be suspended for 3 days and parent notes will not alleviate the discipline.”

“A school is a place to learn and grow educationally, emotionally and morally. A disruption of the school will not be tolerated.”

Reportedly, the message was posted on the same day a 14-year-old student was charged with making a terroristic threat and arrested at Needville Junior High School.

According to CNN, a school district in Waukesha, Wisconsin, issued a letter from Superintendent Todd Gray to parents warning that students who would participate in the walkouts would be appropriately disciplined:

“Participation in a walkout is disruptive and against school regulations, and will subject students to disciplinary measures.”

A follow-up statement from Gray on Facebook claimed that the intention of the letter was to make clear the school had no direct involvement with the protest, adding that they were not aware of students who planned to involve themselves in the walkout and that parents had a “right” to excuse their children:

“At no time have we said students cannot make a statement peacefully while staying in school.”

“We acknowledge that individuals have a right to demonstrate to support a cause. Therefore, if parents wish to excuse their children from school to attend such an event or demonstration, that is their right.”

Let’s take a look at the context.

2012-2013: From Young Champion to Face of the Franchise

Anthony Davis led Kentucky to an NCAA championship in 2012 behind averages of 14.2 PPG, 10.4 RPG, and a wild 4.7 BPG. Anointed NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player, Davis essentially rested his NBA draft case. Picked #1 by the then-New Orleans Hornets, the unibrowed 19-year-old found himself shouldering the responsibility of leading an entire city to greatness. On July 18, 2012, Davis agreed to an endorsement deal with Nike. Less than a week later, he locked into a guaranteed $16 million over three years–a monster contract for a rookie. 2013-2015: All-Star Selections and MVP Consideration

Following Davis’s inaugural season, the Hornets rebranded as the Pelicans, and Davis himself rebranded as a double-double machine. Taking his Rookie of the Year snub as motivation, Davis went to work, impressing NBA coaches enough to be selected to replace Kobe Bryant in the 2014 All-Star Game. The Pelicans would miss the playoffs that year, but the season to come would yield Davis’s best NBA averages to date: 24.4 PPG on 53.5 FG%, 10.2 RPG, 2.9 BPG, and 1.5 SPG. In 2014-15, Davis hauled his teammates onto his back; the Pelicans finished the regular season eight games over .500. An 8th seed, they were swept by Golden State in the first round. But a tough series against the eventual world champs brought the best out of AD, who averaged 31.5 PPG, 11.0 RPG, 3.0 BPG, and 1.3 SPG over four games. Davis finished fifth in MVP voting that year at 22 years old and made his first All-NBA First Team alongside LeBron James, Marc Gasol, James Harden, and Stephen Curry. In the offseason, Davis earned a record-breaking contract extension, signing onto a five-year, $145 million deal. At the time, it was the richest contract in NBA history.

2015-2016: Injuries and Disappointment

Anthony Davis spent the former half of the 2015-16 season tying and extending career-highs in points and blocks, further validating his status as the most fascinating NBA player under 25. He played in his second career All-Star Game in February 2016, and just a week later set a Pelicans franchise record with 59 points in a game while also becoming the youngest NBA player ever, at 22, to score so many points in a game. In March, Davis was shut down for the season due to nagging knee and shoulder injuries. The Pelicans missed the playoffs, but AD finished the year posting a career-best 3-point field goal percentage at 32.4%, alerting the masses to the continued evolution of his game. But because Davis was neither selected as an All-Star starter nor named to an All-NBA team, he took a $24 million loss according to the stipulations of the contract he signed just ten months prior. He otherwise would have been eligible for 30% of the team’s salary cap.

2016-2017: Frustration and Big Changes

Storming into the 2016-17 season, Anthony Davis posted 50 points, 16 rebounds, 7 steals, 5 assists, and 4 blocks in the opener–a 107-102 loss. Though Davis was putting up Jordan-like numbers, New Orleanians began to worry that AD was growing frustrated with the Pelicans organization and the team’s direction. While Davis would technically be married to New Orleans at least until 2021, nothing could prevent him from demanding a trade. The Pels started 0-8 on the season and would accrue just 23 wins by the All-Star break. But there was upside: voted in by fans as an All-Star starter for the first time, Davis would take his role as host (New Orleans would be the site of All-Star festivities that year) in stride: scoring 52 points in 32 minutes of play, AD broke Wilt Chamberlain’s long-standing All-Star single-game scoring record, and was crowned All-Star MVP. Later that night, Davis was given something (er, someone) else: DeMarcus Cousins. In a shocking sequence of events, Cousins would learn during his postgame press conference that he’d been traded by the Sacramento Kings to the Pelicans. Now paired with another Kentucky-bred, All-NBA superstar center, AD was gifted a 270-pound incentive to stay. The Pelicans would miss the playoffs for a second consecutive year, but AD and Boogie were eager to make their tandem work. And in the end, Davis would see his salary increase by $15 million.

2017-2018: Securing New Bags

Prior to the Pelicans’ season opener, it was announced that Anthony Davis and Nike had negotiated a partnership in the form of a “multi-year shoe deal”. While figures were not released, the agreement has been described as “lucrative”; let’s infer that AD is probably earning somewhere between $3 and $8 million per year from Nike. As the 2017-18 season got rolling, it became clear that AD was well-deserving. He and new teammate Cousins were on pace to be the first pair of teammates to average 25 points and 10 rebounds, both putting up beastly numbers, including a slew of triple-doubles from Boogie. AD and Boogie were dominant, and a perplexing threat to opposing defenses, drawing comparisons to former Spurs David Robinson and Tim Duncan. Stumbling a bit through the first few months of the season, the Pels remained in playoff contention throughout. Finally hitting a healthy stride in January, the Pelicans went 9-3 in the month before Cousins went down with a ruptured Achilles. It was devastating, and a noticeable blow to AD, who for the first time in ages had appeared committed to New Orleans and excited for the future of the franchise. The Pels dropped five games out of six after losing Boogie before Davis reverted to 2015 form. He became the team. Averaging 35.6 points, 13.6 rebounds, 2.9 steals, and 3.1 blocks over a 10-game win streak, AD convinced the NBA to take a closer look at the Pelicans as a Western Conference threat, and at Davis as a potential MVP.

2018-2020: What’s Next?

Having made the 2017 All-NBA First Team and added another All-Star appearance to his resume in 2018, Davis is in pursuit of a Designated Player Extension, which will literally enrich his current contract. AD’s superstar accolades could admit him to an exclusive club only Russell Westbrook and James Harden are a part of. If by next summer AD has made one more All-NBA team (which is pretty much a lock this year) or won an MVP award, he could make $38 million in 2019-20 as opposed to the $27 million he is projected to make. He’d soon enough be qualified to sign the coveted Super Max, earning 35% of the Pelicans’ salary cap for the subsequent five seasons. But can Anthony Davis be convinced to commit another five years to New Orleans?

So How Much Is He Really Worth?

We can’t say for certain. Apart from Nike, Davis has deals with Red Bull, H&R Block, and 2K Sports, according to Forbes, which reports his yearly salary at $25.4 million. According to How Richest, which offers the most recent report, AD is worth $13 million. The figure may seem conservative, and it probably is: we don’t have the intel on his endorsement salaries. Maci DeShane McKinney, also known as Maci Bookout, is an American reality television personality, also an author and public speaker, who first became well-known with the MTV reality television series, 16 and Pregnant.

A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Bookout had her first child, Bentley Cadence Edwards, in 2008 with her boyfriend at the time, Ryan Edwards.
