Moonstrucktraveller Instagram: Best Photos & Must-See Pictures of Sarah Kohan

0
0

According to the latest data (#data!), Instagram has approximately 800 MILLION monthly active users and it sure seems like about a third of them are stunning Instagram models.

Now, while there are not actually 250 million Instagram models out there (well, maybe?), there definitely are a lot of them, which probably makes standing out difficult. However, one way to definitely standout is by posing with sharks, whales, elephants, and zebras.

Instagram Photo

The work of art you see about you is 24-year-old Austrailian Sarah Kohan, known on Instagram as Moonstrucktraveller (not the best name, but we’ll let her slide).

via The Sun:

Sarah Kohan, from Sydney, can be seen in incredible locations like the Cook Islands, Bora Bora, Hawaii, The Bahamas, Europe and South America, usually only sporting a bikini in the hot climates. The stunning 22-year-old is not all beauty and no brains as she has completed exchange courses at Harvard University and Columbia University. The adventurer can be seen engaging with the wildlife on beaches, swimming with a group of sharks, diving beside humpback whales, and holding up pigs.

Sarah will graduate from Notre Dame in June and hopes to intern with the International Criminal Court in Holland, told Daily Mail Australia her favorite trips have been when she came across wildlife. She explained that she loves to be swimming in the water with whales and said it felt like “nothing else matters”.

She enjoys seeing the animals in their natural environment and loves interacting with them, without them feeling scared. Sarah also works as a nanny, to pay the bills while she is at school, and she started documenting her travels on Instagram recently.

With nearly 1 million followers on the gram, we’re willing to bet that 2018 is the year Moonstruck absolutely blows up.

First Four, March Madness Picks 2018: Spread & Predictions

March Madness Basketball

Although everyone that is fanatical about college basketball is anxiously anticipating the all-day affair that is the first round of the NCAA Tournament, there are still a select few play-in games to be decided before the main event can commence. While these four contests may be lacking in terms of upset potential and overall competitiveness, they are still technically apart of the madness and provide a somewhat intriguing spark to what is always a fun-filled and intense tournament. Surprisingly, some of the following contests actually unleash a sleeping giant that goes from being completely overlooked to the beloved Cinderella Story that everyone clamors for every year during the postseason. At the very least, these first four contests are ideal for getting everyone into the spirit of March Madness and could very well provide some gritty and close contests to thoroughly enjoy until the all-day event officially gets underway.

LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds (16) vs. Radford Highlanders (16)

In the grand scheme of things, this contest is relatively meaningless in that it will set up either one of these teams to ultimately lose in the first round to a number one seed. Yet, despite this known futility, both of these programs will nevertheless compete valiantly to at least be apart of the national spotlight however briefly that it may be. Although the Blackbirds are god awful defensively (76.6 PAPG), they are able to cover up this deficiency somewhat as they are tenacious when it comes to rebounding the basketball (38.1 RPG) while four of their five starters average double-digit points per game. While the Highlanders may not have the physical playmakers to outrebound the Blackbirds (34.6 RPG) they are far better defensively (64.4 PAPG) and are above average when it comes to making free throw shots (72.3 FT%). Given that the Highlanders are adept defensively, it seems unlikely that the streaky offense of the Blackbirds will prevail in this contest.

Final Score: Blackbirds 63 Highlanders 69 Spread: Radford -4.0

St. Bonaventure Bonnies (11) vs. UCLA Bruins (11)

Underrated by pundits and fans alike throughout the season, the Bonnies’ are actually a highly efficient offensive team that is especially deadly from three-point range (39.8 3P%) and are sure-handed when it comes to making their free throw shots down the stretch of tight games (75.4 FT%). Although the Bonnies are not particularly proficient at holding down their opponents scoring wise, they perform fairly well when it comes to forcing turnovers (seven SPG). Similar to the Bonnies, the Bruins are fairly inept defensively but are incredibly prolific when it comes to shooting the basketball (81.9 PPG). Capable when it comes to shooting the three-point shot, the Bruins are reliant on their streaky shooters to run up the score as they lack the size to get to the basket in the half-court. Although the Bruins are an exceptional scoring program, the Bonnies are a bit more balanced when it comes to playing decent defense and are much better when it comes to hitting deep shots, which will be the deciding factor in this back and forth affair.

Final Score: Bonnies 78 Bruins 75 Spread: UCLA -3.5

Texas Southern Tigers (16) vs. North Carolina Central Eagles (16)

Despite their losing record, the Tigers valiantly fought hard in their conference tournament to receive their second consecutive berth to the NCAA Tournament. Thanks to their budding offense that had been fairly inconsistent throughout the season, the Tigers were able to win one shootout after another despite their serious issues when playing defense (79.7 PAPG). Although the defense of the Eagles is not much better than that of the Tigers (73.1 PAPG), they are far better at scoring the basketball consistently (82 PPG) and are able to do so by unselfishly finding their open shooters (18.2 APG), which has resulted in all five their starters averaging double-digit points per game. Even though they may lack the elite accuracy of some offensive-centric programs, the Eagles are effective when it comes to scoring because they are particularly swift and vigilant when viewing the court in both half court and transition situations. Without a competent defense, the Tigers have little to no chance at overcoming an opponent in the Eagles that are adept at taking advantage of porous defenses.

Final Score: Tigers 79 Eagles 91 Spread: Texas Southern -4.0

Syracuse Orange (11) vs. Arizona State Sun Devils (11)

Unsurprisingly, both Syracuse and Arizona State barely made the tournament. However, the reasons for these programs noticeable inadequacies could not be more different. For the Orange, their glaring issues stem from being anemic offensively (67.5 PPG) as they are woefully inaccurate when it comes to shooting from the field and from three-point range (41.8 FG%, 32.2 3P%). The main facet that most likely saved the Orange from being on the outside looking in was their stout defense that is underrated at garnering defensive rebounds (64.5 PAPG, 37.4 RPG). For the Sun Devils, their dramatic fall from grace was the result of a terrible defense (75.3 PAPG) and inconsistent shooting from three-point range (36.4 3P%). However, despite their wavering accuracy problems, the Sun Devils confidence has never faltered as they have still been able to score 83.5 points per game in spite of their inconsistencies. Even though the Orange have a capable defense, they have had issues at blocking out perimeter shooters, an area where the Sun Devils will relentlessly persist in pursuing until their shooters get hot from the field.

Final Score: Orange 75 Sun Devils 81 Spread: Arizona State -1.5

University Of Arizona ID Tracker: Full Story & Must-See Details

In a new move to track which students might be dropping out of the school, the University of Arizona is tracking freshman students’ ID card swipes, hoping to use the data to lower dropout rates.

How will tracking student ID cards help keep students in school?

USing the card data, researchers can tell how frequently a student enters a residence hall, library, and the student recreation center, which includes a salon, convenience store, mail room, and movie theater. It also needs to be used for vending machines on campus. Ultimately, there are believed to be around 700 locations on campus that use the card.

According to a press release, Sudha Ram, a professor of management information systems who directs the tracking system, issued the following statement:

“By getting their digital traces, you can explore their patterns of movement, behavior and interactions, and that tells you a great deal about them.”

“We think by doing these interventions by the 12th week, which is when students make up their mind, you’re sort of doing what Amazon does—delivering items you didn’t order but will be ordering in the future.”

Over the past three years, the researchers found that predictions they made about drop-outs has a 73% accuracy rate and they plan to use the information to help academic advisers with an online dashboard.

Does it work to help keep students in school?

According to the data, students without a stable behavior pattern or strong social circles are more likely to drop out of the school; reportedly, the university creates lists every quarter of freshman students most likely to drop out, sharing them with advisers.

According to The Verge, Angela Baldasare, assistant provost for institutional research at the university, explained that this information is collected from students early on:

“As early as the first day of classes, even for freshmen, these predictive analytics are creating highly accurate indicators that inform what we do to support students in our programs and practice.”

For 2017, the school’s retention rates rose to 86.5% for residents and almost 89% for international students, with the national average at 78%, according to most recent numbers.

There are some caveats to the system; in addition to the controversy over students’ privacy being violated, Ram also pointed out that the system could give out information, while correct, that could cause generalizations:

“We live in an era where you shouldn’t be generalizing about ‘groups of people. You should be personalizing solutions at the individual level.”

Brian McDaniel, a Dallas firefighter at Station 36, was among the five people who were killed when a helicopter crashed into New York City’s East River on Sunday night.

What happened?

The pilot and sole survivor, Richard Vance, could be heard saying “Mayday, mayday, mayday” during the crash on Sunday during an emergency radio transmission; the person at the other end of the transmission reportedly could not make out what the pilot was saying.

The pilot reportedly blamed the crash on engine failure; the pilot himself managed to free himself from the helicopter and was rescued by a tugboat. Emergency divers had to remove the passengers from tight harnesses within the vehicle, which was knocked upside-down under the water. The National Transportation Safety Board is conducting an investigation over the crash to find more information.

Who is Brian McDaniel?

McDaniel is believed to be a Dallas firefighter. The other victims were identified as video journalist Trevor Cadigan, tourist Carla Vallejos Blanco and helicopter employees Tristan Hill and Daniel Thompson, according to New York Daily News.

McDaniel’s 26-year-old brother, Json, confirmed that his brother died in the crash:

“He loved his job, loved his friends and family and loved adventure.”

This is COED’s What The Hell Happened This Weekend?

Pop Culture

-For all of you out there (like myself) who still don’t fully understand cryptocurrency, John Oliver John Oliver’d it for all of us:

-So, this show came out a couple of months ago, but I started watching Godless on Netflix & it’s DOPE. Netflix really dropped the ball on not making people aware that Jeff Daniels was the villain in this show. He’s excellent.

-Speaking of Netflix, the third and final season of Judd Apatow’s show Love came out and I am going to miss it. The best way to describe Love is this: it’s like being with the characters of Judd Apatow movies when the cameras aren’t rolling. It’s a cute show and super consumable.

Sports

-The Cleveland Browns went nuts over the weekend, trading for Tyrod Taylor, Jarvis Landry, Damarious Randall, while also shipping out relative-bust Danny Shelton. Don’t forget, the Browns still own the first and fourth picks in the NFL draft.

Browns fans watching their team make moves only for it to result in a 3-13 season

News & Politics

-North Korea has asked the United States for directly nuclear talks and we have obliged, which, according to political talking heads, means President Trump and Kim Jong-un are going to meet face-to-face. That’ll be fun.

-The UMass student newspaper published a frankly preposterous article about fraternities:

Top 25 College Basketball Rankings 2018: Final AP Poll

March Madness Basketball

With the regular season officially over, every program that successfully made it into the NCAA Tournament is now setting their sights on garnering postseason glory. While national rankings are all but irrelevant at this point, it is still intriguing to see where all of the reputable programs in college basketball ultimately ended up based on their performances during the regular season. Remaining at the top of the AP Poll once again, the Cavaliers rightfully earned to be unanimously voted into the top spot as they only sustained two losses during the regular season and won the ACC Tournament, arguably the toughest conference in college basketball. While the anemic offense of the Cavaliers could cause them to slip up and lose early on in the tournament, their top-ranked defense has proven more than capable enough to take down even the most prolific of opposing offenses this season.

Top 25 College Basketball Rankings 2018: Final Week

After losing to West Virginia in the Big 12 semi-final game, the Red Raiders were fortunate to both garner a number three seed in the tournament while only dropping three spots in the final AP Poll. With the Red Raiders defense struggling mightily and their offense lacking the necessary playmakers to outscore their opponents, it becomes difficult not to assume the worst for a program that was riding high until the final few weeks of the regular season. While there have been teams in the past that have experienced some type of resurgence in the NCAA Tournament after getting some time to recuperate, the Red Raiders need to rectify several problems on their ailing team if they hope to make it out of the first weekend of March Madness.

Ranking Team (1st place votes)
1  Virginia (65)
2  Villanova
3  Xavier
4  Kansas
5  Michigan State
6  Cincinnati
7  Michigan
8  Gonzaga
9  Duke
10  North Carolina
11  Purdue
12  Arizona
13  Tennessee
14  Texas Tech
15  West Virginia
16  Wichita State
17  Ohio State
18  Kentucky
19  Auburn
20  Clemson
21  Houston
22  Miami
23  Florida
24  Nevada
25  Saint Mary’s

Jumping up five spots from ninth to fourth in the final AP Poll, the Kansas Jayhawks have looked incredibly elite offensively as they have been able to rely on a blend of unselfish passing and accurate shooting from their gifted athletes. Assuming the Jayhawks inconsistent defense can perform adequately in the NCAA Tournament, this is a program that has the dynamic athletes and elite coaching to eventually win it all.

Dropped from rankings: Rhode Island 25
Others receiving votes that did not make the poll: Arkansas 69, Loyola-Chicago 68, Rhode Island 66, TCU 40, Providence 22, New Mexico State 15, Butler 9, St. Bonaventure 8, USC 7, Kansas State 6, Buffalo 5, UCLA 5, Seton Hall 5, Creighton 4, South Dakota State 3, Murray State 2, San Diego State 2, Middle Tennessee 2, Virginia Tech 2, Davidson 1, Missouri 1

After a nursing student, Haley Anderson, was found dead in a New York community home, police have been searching for a “person of interest” connected to the case, the suspect behind Anderson’s murder, who was believed to have been a male nursing student that was in a relationship with Anderson and who fled the United States since the incident; police later identified this “person of interest” as  Orlando Tercero.

What happened?

As mentioned in our previous coverage of the story, police found Anderson’s body after receiving a call to check on her during last Friday during the afternoon.

At this time, Anderson’s cause of death has not been revealed by police; it is also unknown if an autopsy had been performed.

At this time, the investigation concerning Anderson’s death is currently ongoing.

Who is Orlando Tercero?

As mentioned in our previous coverage of the story, Tercero, originally identified as a “person of interest,” is believed to be a male nursing student and a classmate of Anderson’s; Tercero and Anderson also appeared to be in a relationship with each other, which was later validated by images of the two together on social media.

It is believed that Tercero had fled the United States by the time of the incident; although police were unsure if he had returned to the country during the time of their investigation.

According to Press Connects, it was confirmed that Tercero was an American citizen and had fled to Nicaragua:

“Tercero, a U.S. citizen and fellow nursing student at BU, flew to Nicaragua prior to the discovery of 22-year-old Anderson’s body Friday at an Oak Street residence on Binghamton’s West Side, police announced Monday.”

So far, police have not determined a possible motive for Anderson’s death.

Avoid Conflict And Buy Some Festive St. Patty’s Day Merch

0
0

St. Patrick’s Day is a time for drinking, companionship, and judging the hell out of people for their choice of clothes. It’s like a combination of Halloween and Christmas mass. Pretty much anything goes, but there are also strict guidelines to follow. Incorporating green is a necessity. Check that box and you’re good to let the imagination run wild via costumes, kilts, top hats, etc. If not, it’s like wearing an undershirt and shorts to the Lord’s big bday party. Your grandparents and the hypercritical altar boys will give you dirty looks and spit at you.

If you don’t wear green on Saint Patty’s day you may get more than a judgmental look and honked loogie. You may get some good ol’ fashioned gang warfare. All the Saint’s men and women rep green and it is within their right to scold and pinch anyone who doesn’t. It’s an odd, passive-aggressive tactic for Godfather Patrick, but hey, I don’t mean no disrespect. I’m on your side. The winning side. For all the non-conformist, anti-green folk, it’s an impossible fight to fight. I don’t want to start conspiracies here, but I’ve seen a couple cops wearing green in the past. This thing may be bigger than just a couple gangs clashing over territory. Hell, this one may even go all the way to the mayor.

Join the winning side this weekend, and get yourself some classic stereotypical Irish merch.

CWL Atlanta Open 2018: Final Winner & Exclusive Interview

Major League Gaming

After a weekend full of action packed matchups between some of the world’s best Call of Duty players; one team walked away from the 2018 Call of Duty World League Atlanta Open with the title and $80,000 from the $200,000 prize pool. The Grand Final found the Red Reserve EU team facing off against Dallas based Rise Nation team in one of the most heated matchups in eSports history with Rise Nation taking the title, 3-1.

We got a chance to speak to Rise Nation team player, Thomas “TJHALY” Haly, right before the team took to the main stage to face off in the Grand Final and he shed some light on what steps the team took to make it to the top. He explained, “we’ve been grinding a lot the past couple months [since] the game release but it feels good to be here and I’m happy with the team.” He then added, “[we’re gonna] keep our game plan the same and you’ll expect to see us holding that trophy up there.” He wasn’t lying.

After spending the weekend rising to the top of the Winners Bracket, Rise Nation spent their time devising strategies and practicing “almost 24/7” in order to secure their place in eSports history. Beating out other top hopeful teams like Faze Clan, Team Envy and Luminosity Gaming; Rise Nation kicked some serious ass and made their mark on the CWL with their impressive wins at the Atlanta Open. When it was finally time for Rise Nation to take on Losers Bracket winners Red Reserve EU in the Grand Final, the team stepped up to the plater delivering one of the most intense games I’ve ever witnessed in eSports. Playing through 4 rounds of different game modes, Rise Nation was able to secure two round wins before losing the third to Red Reserve EU. Their final round which was spent playing Hardpoint was a nail-biting experience as Red Reserve put up a solid fight being able to hold on down to the very last seconds of the round.

Once the match was called and Rise Nation took the title, we got a chance to speak with Anthony “Methodz” Zinny and Haly once more about their monumental win. “I don’t think we were ever nervous, [the] pressure really doesn’t get to us. It comes with the job honestly… we’re very confident in everything we play,” Zinni explained when asked if the team was a bit nervous heading into the finals. Haly chimed in and added, “it definitely feels good knowing we’ve got fans watching at home and especially to win in front of them feels good,” when he sees the fan response to the team.

Rise Nation can’t just kick back and enjoy their victory yet though, with the next Call of Duty World League Open set from March 30th to April 1st. Zinni said, “[in] the future [we’ll] just win some more championships; we’ve got Birmingham and Playoffs coming up. The plan is to win those and go on from there.” Time will tell if this hot streak will continue for Rise Nation but we’re pretty certain they’ll take the title.

In case you missed the insane match between Rise Nation and Red Reserve EU, catch it in its entirety below

Tickets and information for the 2018 Call of Duty World League Birmingham Open can be found at the official Call of Duty World League website.

P.K. Subban Net Worth 2018: How Much Is P.K Worth?

0
0

P.K. Subban is an African-American hockey player in the National Hockey League. He is a two-time Norris Trophy candidate and one-time winner. Subban is a former member of the Montreal Canadiens, and now currently plays for the Nashville Predators.

Subban was drafted in the second round of the 2007 draft. The 28-year old is now in his eighth season in the NHL, and last year helped lead the Predators to their first Stanley Cup Final appearance in franchise history. So now that he’s been in the league a decade-long, just how much is one of the NHL’s most highly-profiled players worth?

P.K. Subban Net Worth As Of 2018: $25 Million

P.K. Subban, the defensemen for the Nashville Predators, has a reported net worth of $25 million.

Early Life

Instagram Photo

P.K. Subban was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on May 13, 1989. He was the middle child of five children — Nastassia, Natasha, Jordan, and Malcolm — born to his parents, Maria and Karl.

When he was a year old, his sisters first taught him to skate. By the age of four, P.K. started playing hockey. In his second year in organized hockey, Subban was a member of the Etobicoke Bulldogs, where he was an All-Star.

By age 10, Subban was playing for two of the most sought-after junior-bantam teams in Canada in the North York Rangers, and later the Mississauga Reps AAA club.

2005-2009

Instagram Photo

After playing a few more seasons of youth hockey, at the age of 16, P.K. Subban made his way to the Ontario Hockey League to play for the Belleville Bulls.

In his two seasons in Belleville, he would record 68 points and help the Bulls make the postseason, while also attracting NHL scouts in the process.

On June 23, 2007, the Montreal Canadiens selected Subban 43rd overall in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft.

After being drafted, Subban would return to Belleville for two more seasons where he would light up the stat sheet and begin to show his infectious personality. Subban scored 46 points in 58 games in 2007-08 and helped the Bulls reach the J. Ross Robertson Cup Finals.

His final year in the OHL, then 19-year old P.K. would dominate the league tallying 76 points in 56 games, leading Belleville to the playoffs, eventually losing in the semi-finals of the OHL playoffs.

After signing his three-year entry contract with Montreal, Subban went to the AHL to play for the Canadiens farm club, the Hamilton Bulldogs. He would be selected to play in the AHL All-Star Game. Subban would also win gold for Team Canada in the World Junior Championships in 2010.

Subban made his NHL debut on February 12, 2010, against the Philadelphia Flyers. That evening, he would register his first career point with an assist.

In the 2011-12 campaign — his first full NHL season — Subban totaled 36 points. The year after, he would be awarded the James Norris Memorial Trophy as the league’s best defensemen. That 2012-13 season was also the first of two NHL First All-Star team nominations for the Toronto native.

In the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Subban yet again won gold for Canada. During the 2014-15 season, Subban would record a career-high 60 points. He would finish third in the Norris voting.

On September 15, 2016, P.K. showed his passion and love for the city of Montreal by pledging $10 million over a seven-year span to the Montreal Children’s Hospital. In the hospital, visible from three floors reads the words, “Atrium P.K. Subban.” His donation also helped create the fund, “P.K.’s Helping Hands,” which provides financial assistance to families with kids who are ill.

Subban would be traded to Nashville after the 2015-16 season. The move came as a surprise to him and many around the entire league. But in his new city, Subban immediately made an impact. Subban’s play and personality gave the Predators a whole new look and helped the club reach their first Stanley Cup in 2017, where they fell to the Pittsburgh Penguins in six games.

Runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City head to Stoke City for the final game of Matchweek 30. Manchester City have essentially locked up the Premier League title as they sit 13 points ahead of a second place Manchester United.

City will be without striker Sergio Aguero, who is third in the Premier League with 21 goals, trailing only Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah. Stoke City currently face relegation as they sit 19th in the Premier League, however, a miracle win over first-place Manchester would vault them out of the relegation zone into 17th place.

Hubert de Givenchy Net Worth 2018: How Much Is Givenchy Worth?

0
0

Hubert de Givenchy has passed away. The famed French fashion designer known for curating the wardrobes of Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy and Ingrid Bergman, among many others, died of natural causes at the age of 91-years-old, reportedly passing peacefully in his sleep. After 50 years in the fashion industry, during which time he worked alongside the likes of Christian Dior and Pierre Balmain and opened up one of the world’s most famous fashion houses, de Givenchy retired in 1995, passing on his role as head of the Givenchy label to John Galliano. Few names remain as synonymous with high-quality, envelop-pushing fashion as Givenchy, a testament to the brand’s ethos and the strength of their vision from generation to generation. So just how much was the pioneering fashion legend worth?

Hubert de Givenchy Net Worth As Of 2018: $200 Million

Givenchy has been one of the biggest fashion houses in the world for over 50 years, so it makes sense that the man who started it all would have raked in quite a bit over the years. Let’s take a look down below at how exactly he did it all:

Early Life and Career Beginnings: 1927 — 1951

Instagram Photo

de Givenchy was born Hubert James Marcel Taffin de Givenchy in Beauvais, France on February 20, 1927. Following his father’s death from influenza in 1930, de Givenchy was raised by his mother and his grandmother. He had one older brother, Jean-Claude, who would go on to head Parfum Givenchy. At the age of 17, de Givenchy moved to Paris to study at the École des Beaux-Arts, a highly-influential art school where he would begin study fashion design seriously. He would make his first designs for famed post-war designer Jacques Fath at the age of 18 in 1945, before working with Robert Piguet and an aging Lucien Lelong. de Givenchy would work for avant-garde designer Schiaparelli from 1947 to 1951, before departing to open his own design house.

Initial Success and the Birth of an Icon: 1952 — 1995

de Givenchy opened his design house in 1952, naming his first collection “Bettina Graziani” after the biggest model in Paris at the time. The collection was an immediate success, marked by youthfulness and innovation and de Givenchy’s use of cheap fabrics to create curious but nonetheless desirable pieces. The following year, de Givenchy would meet Audrey Hepburn, the actress whose wardrobe de Givenchy would eventually design. Hepburn, whose esteem in acting rivaled that of de Givenchy’s in fashion, would become perhaps the greatest proponent Givenchy, wearing the brand often and making infamous the de Givenchy-designed ‘little black dress’ she wore in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Hepburn was likewise the first face of Givenchy perfume, with his first fragrance collection designed for and modeled by her. This would mark the first time an actress served as the star of a fragrance campaign.

It was during this same period in the mid-1950s that de Givenchy would get the opportunity to work under his idol, Cristóbal Balenciaga. In 1954, Givenchy released his first prêt-à-porter collection, becoming the first couturier to present a line of luxury, ready-to-wear outfits.

In 1957 he would release his still-famous “sack” silhouette, a shapeless, ballooning piece of women’s wear whose shorter hem’s encouraged women to show off their legs. This style would become a fashion staple of the 1960s, anchoring the Givenchy brand until it’s next big leap came in 1973, with the release of the first men’s line, Gentleman Givenchy.

In 1988, de Givenchy would sell the Givenchy house to Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessey, and in 1995 he would retire from the fashion world entirely. His successors at Givenchy have included the highly-acclaimed Alexander McQueen, Julian Macdonald and Riccardo Tisci.

KU Halts Social Activities For All 24 Fraternities

The University of Kansas has suspended the social activity of all 24 of its fraternities.

According to reports, the school’s Interfraternity Council (IFC) announced a self-imposed temporary ban on the fraternity’s activities. The suspension comes as several fraternities are being investigated and suspended due to various code of conduct violations.

In a statement, the KU IFC said that they have“committed to working with university officials to strengthen oversight and address systemic behavioral issues in the wake of multiple IFC fraternities being investigated by their national organizations and the university.”

During the social ban, all social activities — parties, mixers, formals, etc will be paused, however, chapter meetings, philanthropic events and service events are allowed to continue. Furthermore, active members currentling living the fraternity houses may continue to do so.

via KMBC:

“The University of Kansas has a proud tradition of Greek life, and IFC chapters are integral to the KU community and the development of the men involved in them,” said Daniel Lee, IFC president.

“But it has become clear there are significant and systemic conduct problems in the IFC community that we must address, and we must address them now. This freeze is a way for us to pause and do some honest introspection about who we are and how we can live up to our standards of fraternal excellence. We owe this to our members and the entire KU community. We are optimistic our community will stronger, healthier and more inclusive due to this evaluation.”

According to KU, freezes on fraternity activity have become increasingly common nationally. Within the past year, students or administrators have enacted freezes at Indiana University, the University of Idaho, Florida State University, Penn State University, Ohio State University, the University of Michigan and Texas State University.

In total, the University of Kansas has 47 sororities and fraternities.

This is the latest major fraternity suspension or closure in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have all suspended fraternities in the wake of hazing and alcohol deaths.

Top 5 March Madness Sleeper Teams

0
0

March Madness is an upset season. We know this. Whether it’s an underdog team doing the unthinkable, or a perpetual front-runner simply blowing it, no time of the sports year is more ripe for some can-you-believe-it moments. Legacies are cemented, draft stock is affected, and every game matters more than the last. So who are this year’s sleeper picks? Who has the potential to be a 2010 Butler, or a 2008 Davidson? Let’s take a look below:

Kentucky – 5 Seed – South Region

Instagram Photo

While it may seem strange to view Kentucky as a sleeper pick in any tournament, John Calipari’s Wildcats have struggled all season to prove they can keep up with the cream of the NCAA Men’s crop. We can suppose that this is sort of the nature of the beast when it comes to building a rotation of players who are likely to play for you for two years max; some years, you end up with basically two starting-caliber lineups, a situation Calipari had the privilege of coaching to a Final Four appearance in 2015. This is a different Kentucky team, though, one with perhaps more youth than Calipari has ever had to coach all at once. That being said, this Kentucky team has gotten hot at the right time. They’ve won seven of their last eight, including the SEC championship, after spending most of the season falling in the rankings and playing rattled inconsistent basketball. This Kentucky team is truly an anything-can-happen squad, the kind that could make a deep run or get bounced by a lower-seeded team of upperclassmen. Speaking of which…

Davidson – 12 Seed – South Region

Instagram Photo

Okay, so Davidson is definitely a viable sleeper pick, if for no other reason than the fact that our first sleeper pick, 5th-seeded Kentucky, is their first-round opponent. Davidson has gone on a run before, making a trip to the Elite Eight as a 10 seed in 2008 while led by a baby-faced Steph Curry. While this Davidson team has nobody close to a Steph Curry on it, senior forward Peyton Aldridge is fresh off an Atlantic 10 tournament victory, making Davidson tit-for-tat with Kentucky in terms of hot streaks coming into their first-round matchup. Aldridge has started for Davidson for four years, averaging over 20 points-per-game in each of the last two seasons. Kentucky has two juniors and zero seniors on its roster. If there’s only one first-round game worth watching, it very well may be this one.

Missouri – 8 Seed – West Region

Instagram Photo

Missouri is prepared to raise eyebrows in the tournament for one reason: Michael Porter Jr. The freshman forward and projected lottery pick who missed the entire regular season following back surgery is an X-factor on a team that can already handle its own when it comes to scoring. Porter may be a bit slow in his return from a microdiscectomy, but his size and offensive acumen from various spots on the floor will open up the lights out shooting of Missouri’s guards. Missouri is an eight-seed that came into the season with much higher hopes, and they now have the roster they expected to ride into battle with. Florida State will pose an uber-athletic first-round matchup, and the Tigers can’t be expected to recreate a season’s worth of chemistry by simply inserting a really, really good player into their starting lineup. But damn it sure does help.

West Virginia – 5 Seed – West Region

Instagram Photo

If it comes down to facing coach Bob Huggins in a win-or-go-home game, most teams would much rather just not. And while this Mountaineers squad lost its share of bad games late in the season, they spent the first half of the season looking as dangerous as any team outside of the top three seeds. Their players are experienced and aggressive, with strong wins recently over Baylor and Texas Tech in the Big 12 Tournament, and they’ll need to be in going up against 12th-seeded Murray State in the first round. While the Mountaineers look to some like potential first-round upset bait, this isn’t so much due to the untapped potential of Murray State’s squad; the Racers are in fact a pretty damn good 12-seed, West Virginia has just been really inconsistent. After starting the season with a 15-1 record, West Virginia lost nine of their next 18. That’s two very different teams in terms of performance and outcome, and against a Murray State team that has actually won 13 games in a row, that difference could prove to be massive for coach Huggins and the Mountaineers.

Rhode Island – 7 Seed – Midwest Region

Instagram Photo

The Rams are just a fun team. Their coach, Dan Hurley, is expected to move onto a bigger coaching job somewhere else next season, and with good reason. The Rams play a hectic, smothering style of defense that makes opposing offenses look flat-out silly, and while their second-game draw against two-seeded Duke is as tough as it gets, Rhode Island looks like the kind of team that could very well stifle this year’s Duke squad. Of course they’ll have to take care of Trae Young and the Oklahoma Sooners first, which is no small task at all. While the Rams have the defense to defend most teams, Trae Young and the Sooners pose an interesting challenge. Consider that Young seems to spend half of his games flat-out dominating, and the other half looking burnt out and frustrated, and it would seem that Rhode Island’s chances of making a run this year will rely on the same formula they’ve succeeded with all year: wear the other guys down, force mistakes, and then pull away.

Who did we leave off that deserved a spot on this list? Who did we include that had no business on here? Let us know in the comments!

WWE Universal Champion “The Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar is scheduled to appear on tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw to confront the #1 contender known as “The Big Dog” Roman Reigns. Lesnar no-showed the last two episodes of Raw, leaving Reigns wondering if he’s facing a beast at WrestleMania or a universal b!tch.

Update: Lesnar once again no-showed tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw. But WWE Chairman Vince McMahon promised that the Universal Champion will be definitely be on the show next week, you have his word on it.

Will the power couple of Stephanie McMahon and Triple H figure a way to get revenge on Kurt Angle and Ronda Rousey who beat them up last week? Or will they wait until WrestleMania in April to enact some retribution?

And will we see the “Final Deletion” of Bray Wyatt this week at The Hardy Compound? Or will this odd couple string us along until WrestleMania for the ultimate deletion? Either way, get the popcorn because this feud is looking wonderful! Ahahaha Yeeeesssssssss!

WWE

What’s next in the Raw women’s division. There appears to be some tension brewing between “The Boss” Sasha Banks and a now hug-reluctant Bayley. WWE Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss seems to be starting a feud of her own by basically calling Nia Jax a freak that everyone stares at, last week after Jax lost her rematch to “The Empress of Tomorrow” Asuka. Since Asuka will be challenge Charlotte Flair for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania, I expect Jax to step up to the plate and challenge Bliss for her strap at the “show of shows” this April in New Orleans.

And by the way, Kid Rock is being inducted into the celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2018.
