Six fraternities the University of Nevada have lost their university recognition because they did not agree to the school’s new rules.

According to reports, Alpha Tau Omega, Kappa Alpha Order, Kappa Sigma, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Theta Chi and Zeta Psi have lost their charters because they did not sign a 2018 UNR Relationship Agreement.

The agreement that required that fraternities hire a live-in adviser and submit a report of every incident at the end of each semester to university officials.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that all of the school’s 33 fraternities and sororities had until January 22 to sign the agreement.

The six fraternities that refused to sign have been removed from UNR’s website and now operate as disaffiliated organizations.

In 2016 and 2017, seven fraternities were found in violation of university policies. All seven involved alcohol, and two fraternities were suspended. Others faced sanctions that included not being allowed to accept new members, additional education requirements and disciplinary probation.

Sigma Nu Fraternity lost recognition for 15 years following the death of pledge Ryan Abele in October 2016. Abele, 18, fell on a staircase at the fraternity house after a night of partying, according to a police investigation.

Sigma Alpha Epision lost recognition until May 31, 2021 for alcohol use and endangering the health and safety of others.

This is the latest fraternity suspension in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have all suspended fraternities.

Police are responding to reports gunfire at the Highline College campus in Des Moines, Washington, school officials say. The school has been placed on lockdown. Multiple agencies are responding to the still unconfirmed reports.

KOMO news reported from the scene that students were running saying there was an “active shooter” on campus.

UPDATE (1:15 p.m. EST): 

Puget Sound Fire Officials and the ATF say that there is no evidence of any shooter or gunshot victims found at Highline Colleg in Washington state. While the school gunfire report is now considered to be a false alarm, the school is remaining on lockdown as a precaution.

The school posted a Facebook update alerting students and staff of the lockdown around 9 a.m. PST.

“We have reports of gunfire on campus. Please lock down all offices and classrooms until further notice,” the status update reads.

The community college then posted a second status update that read:

“Remain in lockdown – This is not a drill

All Buildings need to remain in lockdown. Barricade doors and windows. Police are responding and we will have further details shortly.”

Police are currently on the scene investigating and searching university buildings. There is no word on any injuries, fatalities, or suspects at this time. The school has approximately 15,000 – 20,000 enrolled students.

Highline College in Des Moines, Washington posted a status update on their Facebook alerting students and staff that a lockdown was in place due to reports of gunfire on campus. The lockdown comes just two days after 17-year-old Nikolas Cruz killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

The nearby Renton Police department tweeted that they and multiple agencies are assisting at Highline. They also tweeted that “families that want information or need a location to go to regarding Highline Incident (still unconfirmed) are being directed to Lowes NW corner parking lot at this time.”

The Kent Police Department tweeted that there is a “large police presence around school and along Pacific Hwy. S.” amd asked civilians to avoid the area:

When the University of Arizona and Arizona State play each other in any sport, you can expect tensions to be high as any inter-state rivalry would. Maybe even so high that some players get ejected. Or maybe even so high that even the … cheerleaders (?) get ejected.

During the second half of Thursday night’s game between the Wildcats and Sun Devils, play was momentarily halted while a game official ejected one of UA’s cheerleaders.

The referee of the Pac-12 rivalry matchup, Randy McCall, said he was required to eject the male cheerleader due to the fact that he did not listen to prior warnings to stop heckling the opposing team.

While the ref said that the cheerleader wasn’t using profanity, they are not permitted to yell into megaphones or to call out players’ names, so he had to go. You know what they say: refs don’t mess (Jesus, I’m sorry, it’s Friday).

According to Rule 10, Article 8 of the official referee handbook, cheerleaders are not allowed to yell into their megaphones during game play and are not allowed to call out names. The Wildcat cheerleader did both.

“He was yelling, using the (megaphone) to call out people by name, which is not acceptable. And he was asked to please stop, and he chose not to,” said Randy McCaul, the referee who ejected the cheerleader.

McCaul noted that the cheerleader was not using profanity.

Strangely enough, the Arizona cheerleading team declined to comment as if this is actually a big deal. A college kid got a little to excited about a game. It happens. On to the next one.

Karen McDougal, a 46-year-old former Playboy model who was named Playmate of the Year in 1998, claims she had an affair with President Donald Trump.

According to McDougal’s allegations, Trump and his team concealed the pair’s affair with a l through secret meetings, payoffs, and legal arrangements. McDougal, who made the claims in a recent article published by The New Yorker documented her alleged nine-month affair with Trump in an eight-page handwritten note that she gave to the magazine.

In the article, McDougal alleges that President Trump offered to pay her after they had sex at the Beverly Hills Hotel. She claims that many of their meetings happened at the Beverly Hills hotel. She also alleges President Trump hid their relationship by having her pay for her own flights and then reimbursing her.

McDougal confirmed to The New Yorker a Wall Street Journal report that said American Media Inc., the publisher of the National Enquirer, agreed to pay her $150,000 for her story but then did not publish it.

David Pecker, the CEO and chairman of AMI, is a Trump supporter who has reportedly described the president as a “personal friend.” Six former AMI employees told The New Yorker that Pecker often purchases a story in order to bury it — a tabloid industry practice called “catch and kill.”

In a statement provided to NBC News, AMI appeared to dismiss the report: “The New Yorker and Ronan Farrow’s suggestion that AMI engages in any practice that would allow it to hold influence over the President of the United States is laughable.”

A spokesperson for the White House said President Trump denies having an affair with McDougal, stating “This is an old story that is just more fake news. The President says he never had a relationship with McDougal.”

This is the second affair allegation made against the President of the United States since the start of 2018, as former adult film star Stormy Daniels makes similar allegations.

Of all the All-Star games in professional sports, the NBA All-Star weekend generally gets it right in ways that the others just don’t. Say what you will about the game itself (they’re working on it), but the skills competition usually features some of the best handles in the game, the three-point contest is always the right combination of incredibly impressive and somehow incredibly frustrating, and the slam dunk contest does more than enough by simply answering the question that every hardcore NBA lover and bandwagon Warriors fan has asked themselves at some point: what if we just let these freakishly athletic dudes do whatever they want?

Since being added in 1984, the slam dunk contest has been a must-see, legacy-defining event. But which dunk contest was the best of all time?

5. 1985: Jordan Meets Wilkins

In just its second year as part of the All-Star weekend, the 1985 Slam Dunk Contest was perhaps the most star-studded contest ever. Featuring the likes of rookie Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins, Julius “Dr. J” Irving, Clyde Drexler, and returning winner Larry Nance Sr., among others, the 1985 contest was stacked to the point of absurdity. While it doesn’t hold all the legacy appeal of later dunking duels between Jordan and Wilkins or Wilkins and Spud Webb, 1985 helped gain momentum for the NBA’s 80s revival and set the stage for some of the great athletic rivalries of its time. Wilkins would take this first duel with Jordan, leaning on a consistent and powerful technique that Jordan’s youthful nonchalance couldn’t quite combat.

4. 2011: Blake Jumps the Car

By 2011, Slam Dunk contests in the NBA had become a bit predictable, with fans clamoring more for engaging tricks as fewer true superstars were participating than ever. While 21st century stars such as Vince Carter and Dwight Howard had had career-defining moments in the dunk contest, the competition had grown into something of an opportunity for lesser-known names to become more widely known if they applied enough creativity to their already freakish genetic gifts. Enter Javale McGee, Serge Ibaka, and pre-awesome Demar DeRozan, who all had pretty damn good contests. DeRozan was smooth, taking self alley-oops and sideline passes through his legs on the first, while McGee really went off, dunking two balls in two baskets on the same jump before dunking three balls simultaneously on an alley-oop. A lot of people don’t remember all that, though, because 2011 was also the year that Blake Griffin dunked over a car. Was it the most impressive dunk of all time? No, not really. Is it still really hard to do? Yeah, it is. Did Blake look insane doing it? Yeah, he did. Did he win? Yeah. He did.

3. 1988: Jordan’s Revenge

1988’s Slam Dunk Contest was more or less an answer to everything that had happened since the 1985 contest. After Wilkins defeated Jordan in ’85, Wilkins would lose to 5’7″ teammate Spud Webb in a Jordan-less ’86 contest. Jordan would return to win in 1987, setting up one of the all-time great moments in NBA history. By 1988, Jordan was an ascendant force in the NBA, an offensive and defensive force who had already set the playoff scoring record and arguably been snubbed for an MVP. With the competition set in his home court in Chicago, and with multiple Chicago natives and fellow athletic icons set to judge, Jordan needed a perfect score of 50 to defeat Wilkins in the final round of the dizzying contest. While Wilkins had dominated the backboards with powerful slam after powerful slam, it was Jordan who would pull out the perfect score on his final dunk, a free-throw line jam in which he appeared to nearly walk on the air itself.

2. 2008: Dwight Takes Flight

2008 was a no-fluff, no-filler dunk contest with proven ballers, exciting tricks, and some straight-up phenomenal branding on the part of Dwight Howard and his Superman costume. It’s hard to remember now, but this was prime Dwight Howard, when he was a risk to go 20-20 any night and his smile seemed as wide as his wingspan. While the Superman schtick was a bit much for some people, Howard used this contest to assert himself as a household name as the NBA fought to develop it’s next family friendly, Shaq-esque big man. Returning winner Gerald Green had long been known as one of the game’s best dunkers, and he delivered again in 2008 with an absurd dunk in which he blew out a birthday candle that was sitting above the rim. Other uber-athletic players such as Rudy Gay and Jomario Moon delivered as well, but nobody was a match for Howard and his free-throw line flight. To be frank, though: the cape definitely helped.

1. 2000: Two Raptors Wreak Havoc

Following a lockout in 1998-1999 and a subsequent dunk contest hiatus, 2000 was seen as an opportunity to get both viewers and players reinvested in the competition. Enter two cousins and two teammates for the Toronto Raptors: Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady. Carter and McGrady were 23 and 20 respectively, and yet the show they put on was enough to make most people forget that other well-known scorers such as Jerry Stackhouse and Steve Francis were even in the building. Between the in-air circus put on by a high-flying McGrady and the logic-defying gall of Carter to pull out reverse 360’s and eventually plunge his whole arm through the hoop in one of the most iconic, winning moments the contest has ever seen, the 2000 Slam Dunk Contest helped expose the high-flying competition for what it had become and, more importantly, what it could and would be.

A former teacher at a Harlem charter school, Christian Toro, and his brother, Tyler, have been charged with trying to build bombs, even paying students to break down fireworks to extract gunpowder for the explosives.

What happened?

The Toro brothers were arrested by the FBI Thursday morning after authorities found a bomb-making manual on the teacher’s school-provided laptop, 30 pounds of chemicals and household materials used to create explosives in their possession, a diary that referenced an “operation flash” plan and a note that wrote, “under the full moon the small ones will know terror.”

Authorities believe the two have been collecting the materials needed to create the bomb since October but did not become aware of the situation until after Christian resigned from the school, with IT employees noticing suspicious writings connected to the former teacher. Neither brother had been on been on law enforcement organizations’ radars before the investigation.

They currently both face federal bomb-making counts. Christian is also charged with distributing explosive materials to a minor. They have both pleaded “not guilty” in federal court.

According to NBC News, Mayor Bill de Blasio said the following in a news conference concerning the case:

“There is no immanent threat to New York City at this time.”

“Some good people stepped forward and that information that was crucial to law enforcement.”

John Miller, the NYPD’s deputy commissioner of intelligence and counter-terrorism also released the following statement:

“We don’t know at this point in the investigation… the full breadth of what these materials mean.”

Who are Christian & Tyler Toro?

Christian Toro is believed to have been having an inappropriate relationship with an underage girl at a Democracy Prep high school, where he was employed. He resigned from the school in early December after a student in an undisclosed threat. According to a complaint, the student herself was later arrested; Christian was later arrested in January on rape charges, although it is unclear if it was connected to the relationship with the student.

After he resigned, Tyler Toro returned his brother’s laptop to the school. It was then an IT specialist noticed a copy of a book describing bombs assembly instructions.

According to NBC News, a spokeswoman for the school gave the following statement:

“After he resigned Democracy Prep, did a routine review of his laptop and was deeply disturbed by suspicious content. We immediately notified law enforcement of the content on Mr. Toro’s laptop.”

In early February, FBI agents and other authorities went to the brothers’ Bronx apartment after law enforcement was alerted by the school. According to a complaint, the brothers initially claimed that they were only researching the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, a claim later backed up by an anonymous female relative.

After FBI agents talked with students at the Harlem school, they learned that at least two had gone to the Bronx apartment to break up fireworks and stored gunpowder in containers. Allegedly, the students were paid $50 an hour for their work.

Some of the objects found in the apartment included five pounds of potassium nitrate, two pounds of confectioner’s sugar, a glass jar of black explosive powder, a cardboard box of firecrackers, a plastic container of apparent thermite, a small container of potassium nitrate and a bag of metal spheres.

In addition, a diary was found referencing both the bomb and Christian’s past relationship with the student:

“Christian arrested…If you’re registered as a sex offender, things will be difficult. But I am here 100 percent, living, buying weapons. Whatever we need.”

This NBA season has never failed to entertain us yet, from all the drama in Cleveland that lead to the team trading basically half their roster at the trade deadline, Kyrie successfully running his own show in Boston, Joel Embiid with his fantastic play and hilarious tweets, to the Rockets giving defending champion Golden State all they can handle, the first half of the NBA season was one hell of a ride. Well, where do we go from here? What teams are legit contenders? What teams are pretenders? Can anyone beat the Warriors? We’re going to attempt to answer these questions with my list of the current top 10 NBA team power rankings, so let us get started.

10. Utah Jazz

You might say to me how the heck are the Jazz the 10th best team in the NBA if they don’t even currently hold a playoff spot? Let me explain, the young Jazz are currently on an 11 game winning streak, in which they beat the powerhouse Warriors, Raptors, and Spurs twice. Also, even though the Jazz currently sits in 10th place in the western conference at 30-28, there are only 4 and a half games separating Utah from the Spurs who currently hold the third spot in the west. Do I believe Utah will finish top five in the west? no, I do not, but right now the Jazz just can’t lose no matter who the opposing team is. The winning streak has catapulted a team that looked like they were heading deep down in the draft lottery to a team that can give plenty of NBA teams in the playoffs a serious problem. If outstanding rookie Donovan Mitchell (19.6 PPG, 3.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds) can continue to play top-notch basketball and will this team, all-star center Rudy Gobert remains healthy, and point guard Ricky Rubio continues playing at the high level he’s been playing at all season, the sky is the limit for this young team. Oh, by the way, they’re doing all this winning this in the western conference (which is no joke).

9. Milwaukee Bucks

One of the most exciting thing going on in the basketball world currently is the happenings in Milwaukee. The franchise from a small market city that had pretty much been forgotten about since the Ray Allen and “Big Dog” Robinson days has come roaring back into the realm of NBA relevance. The Bucks currently hold the 6th seed in the east with a 32-25 record, they are lead by “The Greek Freak” A.K.A. Giannes however you spell his last name. The man who fans and analysts have labeled as “possibly the second coming of LeBron” this year is averaging a remarkable 27.8 points per game, 10.4 rebounds a contest, to go along with 1.4 blocks a game, if those numbers aren’t “LeBron-Esque” I don’t know what is. With Milwaukee actually having a real solid support cast surrounding Giannes, which includes star point guard Eric Bledsoe who they acquired from Pheonix earlier this season, three-point sniper turned all-around solid player Khris Middleton, and the return of former second overall pick Jabari Parker to the basketball floor (who looks like he’s going to be a star in his own right), the Bucks are just warming up the engine for a team that looks like they will only get better as this season goes along and as the years come along. Milwaukee’s ceiling is as high as any young teams in the NBA right now, do I think they will do lots of damage in this year’s playoffs? no, probably not, but Giannes and co. have put the league on notice this year, and the NBA better get ready for them.

8. Oklahoma City Thunder

Don’t get me wrong the Thunder are one of the most talented teams in the league, but they are also the NBA’s biggest enigma this season. Some nights the Thunder look like they can go out and beat any team in the NBA with relative ease, which they have proved with performances of them this year pretty much dominating the Warriors, but then there are games where the basement dwellers such as the Suns or Mavericks give OKC all they can handle. At the end of the day, the Thunder are still pretty freeking good, currently, they hold a 33-26 record which is good for 5th in the west. Lead by reigning MVP Russell Westbrook (25.4 points per game, 10.4 assists per game, 9.4 rebounds per contest) and the acquisition of star players Paul George and Carmelo Anthony, this team can realistically give the very best teams a real big problem when these three stars are playing at their very best, but we have only seen it in spirts so far this year. If OKC’s big 3 can figure out the little quirks that still might be holding them back and correct the issues, look for the Thunder to give the Rockets and Warriors all they can handle if they meet with these elite teams in the postseason.

7. San Antonio Spurs

No surprise here, the Spurs once again are one of the NBA’s elite, as they have been every season for the last 20 plus years or so. Not only do the Spurs hold the third spot in the west with a 35-24 record, but they have done it while missing their superstar Kawhi Leonard for almost the whole season so far (he’s only played in 9 games this season), and there is no timetable as to when he is going to return. Even without Leonard, San Antonio continues to hold their own, with LaMarcus Aldridge having another superb season (22.4 points per game 8.4 rebounds per game), Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker continuing to give the Spurs valuable minutes in their limited amount of playing time, and Coach Greg Popovich finding the right niches for each individual player which usually leads to each player performing at their best night in and night out, the Spurs will once again be a real tough out come playoff time. Who knows, maybe Kawhi returns for the postseason? If that happens, then the whole western conference might just get flipped on to its head (Basically look out Houston and Golden State).

6. Minnesota Timberwolves

Another small market team that has finally made the rise back to NBA relevance is the Timberwolves. The Wolves, who have pretty much dwelled at the bottom of the west since KG got traded to Boston back in 2007, are once again a real good team in the NBA. Minnesota currently sits fourth in the Western Conference with a 36-25 record. The Wolves are lead by superstar power forward Karl Anthony-Towns (20.2 points per game, 12.2 rebounds per game, 1.5 blocks per game) and star small forward Jimmy Butler (22.4 points per contest, 5 assists per game, 5.5 rebounds per game) whom the Timberwolves acquired from Chicago this past summer. The acquisition of Butler from the Bulls put Minnesota back on the map as a legitimate threat in the west, and they have not failed to disappoint. With the young core of starts such as Towns and Andrew Wiggins and the veteran leadership of Jeff Teague and Jimmy Butler, the Wolves have the perfect mix of youth and veterans in their star-studded starting lineup. The Wolves have shown time and time again that they can play with the best teams in the league, but things will get interesting when their young studs step on to the court for their first playoff appearances this April, and if everything goes well for Minnesota once late April arrives, Minnesota is going to be a fun place to be come NBA playoff time.

5. Cleveland Cavaliers

For a time I could not tell if the Cavs were a basketball team or if they were a new show that was a shoot off of Love and Hip Hop. Let’s just say the whole Isaiah Thomas experiment did not work out all that well in Cleveland, it was clear he did not want to be there, there were rumors swirling around every day that the Cavs locker room was a total drama fest, mired by players shunning Kevin Love, Iman Shumpert throwing a towel intentionally on coach Tyrone Lue when leaving a timeout huddle, and Jae Crowder having to be escorted out of the Cavs locker room when he found out he was traded because he tried to confront LeBron about it. Anyway, hopefully for the Cavs the whole dramafest is out the window considering they just traded pretty much half their roster at the trade deadline, and brought in a bunch of younger players that are hungry to win and are excited to play with the best player in the world, things that the players on the Cavs that just got traded did not always seem encouraged or excited about. Cleveland currently sits a 34-22, which is the third-best record in the eastern conference. The Cavaliers are once again lead by LeBron James who is having another all-time great season (26.5 points per game, 8.9 assists per game, 8.1 rebounds per game). With LBJ continuing to show us every night why he is still the best basketball player on the planet, to go along with some fresh air in that Cavaliers locker room, and if these players can learn how to play together well enough in this short period of time, look for Lebron and co. to once again be the favorites to get to the NBA finals from the eastern conference once the playoffs begin.

4. Boston Celtics

What a year it has been so far for the Celtics, yes they might have been struggling a bit as of late, but you cant take away the fact that pretty much everything has gone right for the Celtics so far this season. Ok, yes there big summer signing of Gordon Hayward got hurt in his first game of the year and will most likely miss the whole season, but does anyone even remember that Hayward is on Boston? Becuase they have been so good in his absence. Boston currently sits second in the east with a phenomenal record of 40-19, trailing the first seeded Raptors by only two games going into the all-star break. The Celtics are lead by superstar point guard Kyrie Irving (24.7 points per game, 5 assists per game, 3.6 rebounds per game), there were plenty of questions as to weather Kyrie was good enough to be the number one option on a team competing for a championship, and he has answered those questions, and loudly with his superb play, and the answer is damn right he can be the number one option on a team competeing to win it all. To go along with Irving, Boston also is living quite well off the success of their super talented young core, such as Terry Rozier, Jaylen Brown, and rookie of the year candidate Jayson Tatum. With Kyrie playing the best basketball we have ever seen him play, and the continued growth of the Celtics young players (who are already really good players at the NBA level) Boston, just like they usually do, has their eyes on capturing yet again another championship, to add on to the franchises illustrious history.

3. Toronto Raptors

Everyone thought that was it (including me), that the Raptors had reached their potential and would never even stand a fighting chance at getting to the NBA finals, I think it is safe to say that everyone (including me) was wrong. The Raptors currently hold the top spot in the eastern conference with an outstanding record of 41-16. The Toronto Raptors are once again lead by super-star shooting guard DeMar DeRozan (23.7 points per contest, 5.2 assists per game, 3.9 rebounds per game) and star point guard Kyle Lowry (16.6 points per game, 6.5 assists per game, 5.7 rebounds per game). The question remains, how did a team with the same core that everyone thought had already reached their potential all of a sudden get significantly better? Well, Lowry, this season has done a much better job at making his teammates around him better, which has obviously lead to them performing better. Also, the Raptors have one of the deepest and best-performing benches in the NBA this season, with guys such as Fred VanVleet, C.J. Miles, OG Anunoby, and Jakob Poeltl giving Toronto valuable minutes off the bench. A deep and talented bench could become quite important for Toronto come playoff time, considering their bench can outperform almost all the benches in the NBA, and with so much talent on their bench, it could allow for their stars and starters to rest and be more rejuvenated for important late-game situations in the playoffs then their opponents. The Raptors proved me wrong once already this season, I do not think they will get to the finals to be completely honest with you, but like I just said, I was wrong about this team once this season already (and weren’t we all?).

2. Houston Rockets

If there is one team in the NBA this season that might have a decent chance at beating the Empire from Oakland this season in a seven-game series it’s the Houston Rockets. The Rockets currently sit first in the west (yes, they are ahead of the Warriors by half a game) with a record of 44-13. The Rockets are once again lead by the beardman himself, James Harden (31.3 points per game, 9 assists per game, 5.1 rebounds per game) who most people consider the frontrunner currently to win this years MVP award. In the offseason, the Rockets made it clear to Golden State that they were coming for their heads acquiring super-star point guard Chirs Paul from the Clippers (19.2 points per game, 8.3 assists per game, 5.7 rebounds per game). Once they acquired Paul from LA, fans and analysts questioned whether Harden and CP3 would be able to mesh together and play well together, and the answer is they can absolutely play well together as we have seen this season. How well do Harden and Paul play together you might ask? well, as of February 2nd, when they both played together the Rockets were an astonishing 21-1, so practically unbeatable. With the outstanding play of Harden and Chris Paul together this year, and the emergence of Clint Capela into a real dominant force at the center position, the Rockets have their eyes set on one thing and one thing only, a World Championship (oh, by the way, Houston is also on a 10 game winning streak, no big deal).

1. Golden State Warriors

To be completely honest with you, even if the Rockets had an eight-game lead in the west on the Warriors I would still put Golden State at number one on my power ranking. The Golden State Warriors, the best team in basketball (do not fool yourself) currently sit second in the western conference with a 44-14 record, which is honestly a sub-par record for this Warriors team as compared to years in the past. The Warriors continue to show the world every night why they are the hunted, lead by the greatest shooter to ever walk this earth, Stephen Curry (26.6 points per game, 6.5 assists per game, 5.2 rebounds per game) and one of the greatest scorers to ever live, Kevin Durant (26 points per contest, 5.5 assists per game, 6.8 rebounds per game) these two men never fail in showing NBA fans what the best basketball show on earth looks like. Even with a bench that has been underperforming as compared to the past few seasons, Golden State still has on their roster two once in a generation players in Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, a borderline super-star player in Klay Thompson, and an all-star caliber power forward who is also the heart and soul of the Warriors in Draymond Green. With this abundance of basketball talent on one roster, even with a fizzling bench that is underperforming, I really dont see how teams such as Hoston, Cleveland, Toronto, or Oklahoma City would be able to win a seven-game series against a team with this much talent. For me I believe the Warriors are just too good and will win their third championship in four seasons, and the rest of the NBA will once again have to go back to the drawing board and try to figure out how to stop the Empire In Oakland from continuing their reign over the basketball world.

All-Star Weekend means one thing: we’re moving into the homestretch of the 2017-18 NBA season. There’s been plenty to talk about so far – from injuries to rookie surprises, and enough LeBron drama to keep ESPN occupied for a lifetime.

It’s a league that’s built on the backs of highly publicised players that never fail to make headlines. All the gossip and storylines are sure to pick up steam in the second half, so here’s what to look out for.

Ben Simmons (76ers) vs. Donovan Mitchell (Jazz) for Rookie Of the Year

After sitting out his first year, the 2016 first overall selection, Ben Simmons, is not disappointing this season. Simmons is scoring 16.4 points per game and leads all rookies in rebounds (7.8) and assists (7.3) per contest. He has also joined Magic Johnson as the only rookies to have six triple-doubles in a season. 2017’s 13th overall pick, Donovan Mitchell, doesn’t have any triple-doubles, but many think he’s the clubhouse leader for ROY.

The case to be made for Donovan Mitchell over Ben Simmons is that Mitchell is the “go-to scorer” on a red-hot team. Mitchell’s Jazz have won 11 straight and he’s one of the main contributors to their impressive run. His 19.6 ppg is superior to Simmons and he’s a far better free throw and 3-point shooter. We all know jump shots aren’t Simmons cup of tea and these two players have completely different styles. It’ll be interesting to see which style of play ends up winning the ROY: the well-rounded Simmons or the go-to guy in Mitchell.

The Lakers and Lonzo Ball

Is this team better without the heir to the Big Baller Brand? It’s hardly contested that last year’s second overall pick has been underwhelming thus far. Lonzo is averaging just 10 points per game on 35% shooting, and has sat out the last 15 games due to an MCL injury. Many think the Lakers are being conservative with his return because, quite frankly, they play better without him. Regardless of how his season ends, Lonzo, BBB, his dad, and his monotone music are sure to continue making plenty of noise.

The MVP Race

With just about 25 games left in the regular season, the MVP race is still fairly tight. The current top five candidates are James Harden (Rockets), Kevin Durant (Warriors), Stephen Curry (Warriors), Lebron James (Cavaliers),  and Russell Westbrook (Thunder).

Harden (31.3 Pts, 5.1 Reb, 9 Ast) is this year’s frontrunner for the coveted award. If he can stay healthy and maintain his scoring ways then he’ll have a great chance at nabbing his first MVP.

Also in the West, are Warriors’ Durant (26 Pts, 6.8 Reb, 5.5 Ast) and Curry (26.6 Pts, 5.2 Reb, 6.5 Ast). The Rockets currently have the number one spot in the West, which should provide these two Warriors with all the motivation they’ll need to play at their highest level (and maybe earn an MVP in the process).

This contest is nothing new to James (26.5 Pts, 8.1 Reb, 8.9 Ast), who’s already won the award four times. His new and improved Cavs might help him earn a fifth.

Last year’s MVP, Westbrook (25.4 Pts, 9.4 Reb, 10.4 Ast), is back in the running. His new teammate, Paul George, may be stealing some from his stat lines, but if OKC can stay relevant down the stretch with Russell at the helm, then a second consecutive title isn’t completely out of the question.

Lebron’s New and Improved Cavaliers

In the span of little more than an hour, the Cavs made three deals that may have resurrected a season and reshaped a franchise. Up until that point, it wasn’t looking pretty for Cleveland. Their team was underperforming while their star brooded and prepped for another theatrical offseason exit. Then the trade deadline happened. In a flurry of moves, the Cavs traded away Dwayne Wade, Isaiah Thomas, Channing Frye, Derrick Rose, Jae Crowder, Iman Shumpert, and a couple picks. In return, they received Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance Jr., George Hill, and Rodney Hood.

What’s happened since? So far so good for the Cavs. They’ve won three straight, looked good while doing it, and Lebron’s smiling again, which always calms the nerves of Clevelanders. A chaotic hour changed the entire landscape of what Cleveland has to offer. Now James has three months to put it all together.

Race for the Number One Seed in the East and West

In the East, it’s currently the Toronto Raptors (41-16) duking it out with the Boston Celtics (40-19) for the number one spot. Boston was comfortably atop the standings for most of the season, but some recent struggles have allowed Toronto to take advantage with a 7-game tear. Right now it’s neck and neck between those two, but as always… watch out for them Cavs. They’re refurbished, revamped, and only 6.5 games back. The race to the finish for these three teams is sure to be a close one.

For the West, it’s looking like a Houston Rockets (44-13) and Golden State Warriors (44-14) showdown. No surprise there. Well, I’m sure not many expected the Rockets to have a slight edge over the Warriors heading into the All-Star break. A current 10-game win streak helps with that. But if last year taught us anything about the Warriors, it’s that Durant, Curry, Thomas, and Green are simply too much to hold off for long. For the sake of entertainment let’s hope the Rockets keep winning, but it’s shaping up to be another first seed finish for the Warriors.

Karen McDougal is a former Playboy model who claims she had an affair with President Donald Trump. McDougal, now 46, won Playmate of the Year in 1998.

McDougal’s, who made the claims in a recent article published by The New Yorker, alleges that President Donald Trump concealed the couple’s affair with through discrete meetings, payoffs, and legal arrangements. McDougal also gave The New Yorker eight-page handwritten note that she gave to the magazine.

In the extensive report, the former pinup model alleges that Donald Trump offered her payment after the two had sex at the Beverly Hills Hotel, where she claims that many of their meetings happened at the Beverly Hills hotel. Furthermore, McDougal alleges that President Trump hid their relationship by having her pay for her own flights before later reimbursing her.

McDougal confirmed to The New Yorker a Wall Street Journal report that said American Media Inc., the publisher of the National Enquirer, agreed to pay her $150,000 for her story but then did not publish it.

David Pecker, the CEO and chairman of AMI, is a Trump supporter who has reportedly described the president as a “personal friend.” Six former AMI employees told The New Yorker that Pecker often purchases a story in order to bury it — a tabloid industry practice called “catch and kill.”

In a statement provided to NBC News, AMI appeared to dismiss the report: “The New Yorker and Ronan Farrow’s suggestion that AMI engages in any practice that would allow it to hold influence over the President of the United States is laughable.”

A White House spokesman said President Trump denies having an affair with McDougal:

“This is an old story that is just more fake news. The President says he never had a relationship with McDougal,” the White House spokesman said.

McDougal is the second women to claim to have had an affair with President of the United States since the start of 2018, as former adult film star Stormy Daniels makes similar allegations.

UFC Fight Night is just around the corner! Fight Night 126 presents two similarly built fighters, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Yancy Medeiros.

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone has never been one to get emotional over the meaning of a fight after competing in 43 professional bouts.

Cerrone (32-10, 1 NC) has always been honest regarding his mission statement as a fighter and man of few words. Instead of fighting to gain glory, whether it is hoisting a championship trophy or title, he fights purely out of enjoyment. As long as UFC allows him to enter the ring, he will consistently cash in checks and enjoy his favorite pastime.

Despite the 34-year-old’s current three-fight losing streak, including two to knockouts, Cerrone is down-to-earth and rather poised for his fourth and most exciting bout.

According to authorities, a 4-year-old girl had been shot to death in a car while sitting with her young siblings and her grandmother in northeastern Ohio, with the suspect currently being sought.

What happened?

Police have not identified the girl but have said that the shooting occurred late Friday night when the children’s mother pulled in front of a home to obtain belongings and then proceeded to break windows when nobody answered the door.

According to Time, police spokesman Lt. Rick Edwards said that a man came outside with a rifle and fired a shot at the car, hitting the child, while she was sitting in the backseat. After she was taken to an Akron hospital, she was pronounced dead.

The child’s three siblings were aged 7, 6 and 3.

Who is Darnell Bitting?

Police have since identified a suspect as 31-year-old Darnell Bitting, issuing a search warrant for his arrest.

“Anyone with information on Bitting’s whereabouts is asked to call the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490, the U.S. Marshals Service at 1-866-4-WANTED or the Summit County Crimestoppers Inc. at 330-434-COPS.”

A 36-year-old man from Salem, Oregon, Pedro Segura, has been charged with the murder of a high school student’s shooting death, as well as three counts of unlawful use of a weapon, riot and being a felon in possession of a weapon.

What happened?

According to authorities, the high school student, identified as Alfredo “Junior” Hernandez, died in late January after being shot in the head and reportedly died at the scene. At the time of the shooting, police held an overnight investigation but were unable to name the shooter.

The boy’s mother, Dawn Hernandez, had reportedly been shopping during the time of the shooting, later giving the following statement, according to The Statesman’s Journal:

“I burst into tears right there in the middle of Target…We have been praying for justice, so it’s a relief that he has been caught.”

“I’m going to learn how to live with the grief, and my mind is very focused on my older son. He still needs a mom.”

“We ache on a daily basis for Junior, and it’s probably just our new normal now.”

Segura was later arrested for the shooting in early February and has since been kept at the Marion County Jail.

A GoFundMe account was later developed for the family, currently raising nearly $9,500 of its $10,000 goal.

Who is Pedro Segura?

Segura already has a past record: he was convicted in 2000 of carrying or use of a dangerous weapon, second-degree disorderly conduct in 2007, first-degree burglary and being a felon in possession of a firearm in 2008.

Segura is currently being held on $500,000 bail at the local prison. For the time being, it is unclear if he had an attorney during his trial.

Upon hearing of Segura’s indictment, Dawn personally fears that her Segura will not be found guilty of the charges and was told the court proceedings could last for one to two years:

“I thought it would help bring some closure. It hasn’t…I daily still will momentarily forget and think, you know, ‘Where is he?’ or I’ll think he’s going to walk in the door anytime.”

Segura is scheduled for arraignment at 8:30 AM. on Feb. 20 at the Marion County Circuit Court Annex.
