Whether it’s aggressively protecting the edges against opportunistic running backs or breaking through formidable offensive lines to sack the quarterback, edge defenders have quickly become one of the more valuable and necessary defensive assets in the NFL. Both versatile and athletic, edge defenders need to have the physical attributes as well as the instincts to know exactly where they need to be at the right time. Although the rules of the league as they currently stand prevent these physical defenders from being as effective as they should be, these fearless attackers have nonetheless become essential pieces for teams that are determined to stifle any opposing offenses they come up against.

10. Kony Ealy

Although the capable edge rusher took a step back last year with the New York Jets in terms of production, he is more than capable of being effectively tenacious when utilized properly. Forcing six turnovers during his three seasons with the Carolina Panthers, Ealy clearly has the wherewithal and aggressiveness to pursue and strip offensive playmakers that are careless when it comes to securing the football.

9. Courtney Upshaw

While Courtney Upshaw has regressed somewhat since joining the Atlanta Falcons two years ago, the ceiling for this highly physical defender is worth taking into consideration. A tackling machine for the Baltimore Ravens during the first four years of his career, Upshaw clearly possess the tenacity and the motor to still be effective in the right system.

8. Connor Barwin

At age 31, Connor Barwin is obviously not the unstoppable force that he was when he played for the Philadelphia Eagles. However, the elite pass rusher is still relentless when pursuing the quarterback as he recorded five sacks and 26 total tackles in just 14 games. He may be regressing, but even out of his prime Barwin is still an effective playmaker when rushing the quarterback.

7. Julius Peppers

Do not let his age fool you (38), Julius Peppers is still an elite pass rusher as he recorded 11 sacks with the Carolina Panthers in 2017. Although it may be somewhat risky to sign Peppers to anything more than a one year deal, the veteran defender clearly still possess the instincts and the motor to be valuable for any defensive front.

6. Tank Carradine

Although Tank Carradine has yet to play a full 16 game season in his career, he has both the size and speed to be a potent edge rusher when healthy. Given the right opportunity for the right team, Carradine could very well become a deadly pass rusher and provide a team with the edge presence they need to be effective at flustering an opposing quarterback.

5. Trent Murphy

On an injury-ridden Washington Redskins team in 2017, Trent Murphy was a stand out playmaker that did everything and more to elevate his stock as an intriguing free agent. Sacking the quarterback nine times and forcing three fumbles (both career highs), Murphy took his game to the next level and proved that he could both take down and strip the ball away effectively from opposing quarterbacks.

4. Junior Galette

Highly athletic and relentless when pursuing the quarterback, Galette will most likely come at a bargain bin price considering his drop off in production in 2017. However, the ceiling for this defender is ridiculously high as he has proven on several occasions that he can make tough tackles while consistently bringing down the quarterback.

3. Adrian Clayborn

Notching a career-high 9.5 sacks for the Atlanta Falcons in 2017, Adrain Clayborn is a scary good pass rusher as he refuses to let up on opposing offensive lines. Considering how effective he was at forcing turnovers last season (two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries), Clayborn has the ideal skill set and tenacity of a consummate pass rusher.

2. Ezekiel Ansah

Sacking the quarterback 12 times in just 14 games is an impressive accomplishment in and of itself. However, Ezekiel Ansah is an elite tackler that utilizes his brute force and strong hands to force his opponent down to the ground consistently. For a team that is looking to beef up their defensive front with an exceptional tackling machine, they need look no further than Ansah.

1. DeMarcus Lawrence

58 combined tackles, 14.5 sacks, and four forced fumbles. Just wow. DeMarcus Lawrence is clearly the best edge defender in free agency this year as he is highly athletic and intelligent when pursuing the quarterback relentlessly. If the Dallas Cowboys are foolish enough to let this elite pass rusher walk, Lawrence is a playmaker that can instantly make any defense better with his versatile and dominant skill set.

There are two types of people in life: alphas and betas, wolves and sheep, Seinfeld people and Friends people. This may be a little offensive to some of you millennial snowflakes (which I allegedly am too, so don’t feel bad) out there, but if you’re a Friends guy and not a Seinfeld guy, you have a smaller brain. It’s essentially scientific fact.

As you can probably tell by now, I’m quite the Seinfeld fan. One of my favorite memories as a kid is snuggling up next to my Dad on the couch to watch Seinfeld reruns on TBS and laughing my ass off, and not really because I understood the jokes, but because my Dad did.

Obviously, the older I got, the more of the show I understood and the more I came to realize how truly brilliant it was. So with that in mind, I can’t help but think a Seinfeld reboot would be a terrible idea, and I think Seinfeld himself knows it.

The only issue — given the constant waves of reboots, remakes, and revivals — is that NBC would likely make Jerry and the gang (Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Michael Richard, and Jason Alexander) an offer they couldn’t refuse. I have no idea what kind of payday we’re talking here, but you’d have to imagine it’d be in the tens of millions, especially considering how successful a Seinfeld reunion would be.

While Jerry and Larry David no doubt still have the wits to write a hilarious reunion, one can’t help but wonder if that brand of humor would translate to 2018’s audience.

Granville County Sheriff’s Office

Megan Selfe, a 25-year-old former fifth-grade teacher at Creedmoor Elementary School, was charged with statutory rape. Selfe was arrested by the Granville County Sheriff’s office on February 6.

According to a spokesman for Granville County Schools spokesperson, Selfe was charged with felony statutory rape of a child under the age of 15 and felony indecent liberties with a child. Granville County Sheriff Brindell Wilkins said that the charges are in reference to only one child, but it is believed the sexual conduct happened more than one time

Reports from WRAL indicate that Selfe taught the child with whom she is alleged to have had the relationship; that child would have been 10 or 11 years old at the time. The child would now be 12 or 13 years old.

Granville County Schools released the following statement in regards to the charges:

“We follow our policies and our procedures to the letter and we feel like those provide a strong layer of protection. We’re always trying to be vigilant in making sure that our kids are safe. Granville County Schools takes the well-being of all of its students very seriously. We take every measure possible to ensure that our students are in a safe learning environment. All of our employees undergo extensive background checks prior to being employed and we take care to supervise our children while they’re with us in our schools to ensure they are as safe as they possibly can be.”

Selfe was a fifth-grade teacher from January 2016 to July 2016, when she resigned. She was released on $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court today, Wednesday, February 14.

This is the latest in a string of teacher sex scandals over the last couple of years. In November, Tennessee teacher Janet Smothers was arrested. Former nutrition teacher LaToya Parker was also arrested for a relationship with a student. Florida teacher Caroline Lawson was charged with sexual assault. 26-year-old Allyson Moran was also arrested for similar crimes. The 23-year-old high school teacher Katherine Ross Ridenhour was also arrested for an inappropriate relationship.

Furthermore, Hunter Day, 22, was also arrested after a sting operation. Megan Kotarski was also arrested on similar charges. Michelle Schiffer, a 23-year-old history teacher in Texas, was also charged and arrested for allegedly having sex with a teenage student. 29-year-old Alyssia Marie Reddy was arrested in Maryland for her crimes in New Jersey. Samantha Fitzgerland, a 28-year-old, was most recently arrested and charged. Jordan Ondish was arrested for her inappropriate relationship with a 19-year-old, while 28-year-old Samantha Fitzpatrick was arrested on similar charges.

Nicole Marie Andrews was arrested as well. 32-year-old Jessica Langford was arrested and charged with sexual assault-related crimes as well. A teacher from Oregon, Andrea Baber, was accused of having a sexual relationship with a student.  Robin Dunlap, a teacher in Florida, was arrested for sending illicit photos to a 15-year-old boy in Texas. Teacher and tennis coach Jennifer Olajire-Aro was also charged. 42-year-old Heather Butts of California was arrested on a second-degree felony charge. Nancy Leigh Ann Brann, a former Christian school teacher, was arrested for having sex with a student. Coine Audiat pleaded no contest to having sex with a minor in 2016. 23-year-old Darci Lake was arrested for an inappropriate relationship.

Valeria Costadoni was also arrested due to a relationship with her student. 40-year-old Kisha Nuckols was arrested for having sex with a student, too. Hilary Dattilo, a 30-year-old Ohio high school teacher, has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a female student. 30-year-old Missouri teacher Elizabeth Morgan was also arrested on similar charges. Trisha Anderson Rogers, a 47-year-old former student teacher at a North Carolina middle school was sentenced to eight months in prison after pleading guilty to soliciting a young student for sex. 39-year-old Texas teacher Marisela Winn was also charged for her relationship with a student. Gabrielle Bauman who admitted to having a relationship with a student was only sentenced to probation. 29-year-old Dori Meyers has denied accusations against her about a relationship with an underage student.

United Airlines … woah. These guys. Theeeese f*cking guys. Ever since they dragged that quiet little Asian guy with the ankle-size name off that flight about a year ago, they’ve done nothing but churn out PR disaster after disaster.  “Many people” are saying they are a slaughterhouse of PR disasters. They make Lindsey Lohan look like an investable company. And after all the Asian dude-dragging, scorpion-surprising, pissing-in-cups they’ve done over the last year, this is easily the worst PR they’ve had yet.

Look, when it comes to airline companies, you can assault me and my Chinese grandpa, you can have a scorpion pop out of the overhead and onto my sister’s lap, you can make me piss in a cup (wouldn’t be the first time), but what you can’t do is have me pondering what I’m going to name my pet volleyball when I arrive on the deserted island. And if you do, you bet you ass I’m having a cigarette in the bathroom.

And before you’re like, “Well Eric, what if this is on a flight from like Tunisia to Kazakhstan? You can’t expect them to have the latest and greatest models and employees out there”, I say to you, “Well this was on a flight from San Fransisco to Hawaii!Holy shit right?”

Let me tell you something y’all may not know about me: I’m not aviation logistics expert. But –but! — I have to imagine SFO-to-HNL is a popular f*cking flight, which would lead you to believe they’d be on their A-game. But nope, this is United we’re talking about.

Passengers on a United Airlines plane survived a truly terrifying ordeal after they were ordered to “brace for impact” when part of one of the aircraft’s engines flew off mid-flight over the Pacific Ocean.

Video and images shared by passengers on social media show one of the plane’s engine’s visibly damaged after the motor’s cowling—or covering—reportedly flew off during the Hawaii-bound flight from San Francisco.

The flight crew declared an emergency, telling passengers to “brace for impact” in case of a rough landing, according to The Telegraph. A spokesperson for United Airlines told Newsweek the airline plans to issue full refunds to all passengers on the flight. They said the aircraft “landed safely after the pilots called for an emergency landing because of an issue with the #2 engine.”

While a spokesperson for United said they are currently refunding everyone’s flights, I truthfully don’t think that’s enough. This is one of those experiences that can turn flying into a legitimate fear, and do you know how hard life becomes when you’re too afraid to fly. John Madden had to bus hit fat ass all over the country every week for Sunday Night Football because he didn’t want to get on a plane. If I’m a customer, I’m finding a lawyer who’s willing to try and win me free flights for life. Oh and also an endless supply of toilet paper, because I don’t think I’d ever be finished wiping poo out of my pants if I lived through this experience.

Also, United, please get your shit together before something actually bad happens. My word.

Ada County Sheriff’s Office

Rebecca Mason-Cales, a 26-year-old teacher at Mountain View High School, was arrested on Tuesday, February 13 after she accused of having sex with a student.

According to Meridian Police Mason-Cales, of Boise, was arrested and is being held in the Ada County Jail on six felony counts of sexual battery of a minor child.

Authorities said that the West Ada School District received an anonymous email about Mason-Cales being in a possible sexual relationship with a student. KTVB reports that the district immediately contacted Meridian police, who launched an investigation.

Police have allegedly found evidence of a sexual relationship between Mason-Cales and a 17-year-old male student, which is what led to her arrest. Police said the sexual relationship between Mason-Cales and the student began in August of 2017 and that they do not believe there are any other victims at this time.

According to her staff page on the school district’s website, Mason-Cales taught German and History 10 at Mountain View High School. She was in her second year at the high school.

Police are responding to a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida. Over 20 people have been injured or killed in the shooting.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office says that the shooting occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 15 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

The active shooter has not been arrested and is still at large. Early reports indicate that over 20 people have been injured.

No information on how many casualties there are has been reported at this time. Police are asking civilians to stay away from the school as the situation unfolds. The school is located at 5901 Northwest Pine Island Rd in Parkland, Florida.

The FBI said it was on the scene and assisting local law enforcement. ATF agents from the Miami Field Division are also responding to the scene.

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School is located in Parkland, Florida. It is a part of the Broward County Public School district, and it is the only public high school in Parkland. Stoneman Douglas has an FCAT school grade of “A” for the 2016–2017 academic year.

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School was named after the Everglades environmentalist Marjory Stoneman Douglas. The school opened in 1990 with students in grades 9 though 11, most of whom transferred from nearby schools Coral Springs High School and J. P. Taravella High School. The first senior class graduated in 1992.

A school shooting occurred at the campus on February 14, 2018, leaving at least 20 people injured. The shooter is reportedly still at large.

The character lives a double life as T’Challa, the king of a mysterious, African nation of Wakanda. Inspired by his people’s mythology, he also inherits the alter-ego of the “Black Panther,” donning a full-body suit, as other previous members of the royal family have done for hundreds of years. Combining rituals and proficient science, as well as his own training to become a skilled fighter, he, like many similar heroes, took on the mantle after the tragic assassination of his father, King T’Chaka.

He has also had different incarnations over the years and encountered other Marvel heroes. In fact, his debut came from a “diplomatic” meeting with a certain, other Marvel team, but more on that later…

Black Panther’s First Appearance

A lot of comic book characters make their debut in other characters’ stories and this includes the Black Panther. He first appeared in a Fantastic Four two-parter: #52-#53. The character greets the titular four as they go on a diplomatic mission to Wakanda; the Black Panther follows them home to the United States and, after testing their ability, asks them for help with a grave mission.

If anything else, the irony that Michael B. Jordan is both in the Black Panther film and a certain Fantastic Four film has just gone full circle!

Black Panther’s First Starring Series

In the late 1970’s, Black Panther had his first spin-off series, after appearing as a recurring guest character in other Marvel comics. While it only lasted 15 issues, with some of the unpublished stories being printed in other anthology comics, it would prove to be the first of many, with a follow-up series coming out just around ten years later!

Black Panther: The Man Without Fear

Posing as an immigrant named Mr. Okonkwo, T’Challa became the protector of Hell’s kitchen and blended in with everyday people. This incarnation of the character also deals with serious issues like child abuse and vigilantism.

A Nation Under Our Feet

Written by Ta-Nehisi Coates, this arc takes a different spin on the character. Given that Black Panther’s alternate identity, T’Challa, is meant to be the actual king of Wakanda, he must contend against a superhuman terrorist group dubbed “The People.” The story also places focus on members of Dora Milaje, Wakanda’s all-female special forces.

Rise of the Black Panther

A Nation Under Our Feet was later given a prequel series that dealt with T’Challa’s family, notably his grandfather, who even gets to meet Captain America. At times, you can forget how old he is supposed to be! In addition, the series takes a look at some of T’Challa’s early years as king of Wakanda.

Japanese Anime is simply wild. That is one of the facts of life: death, taxes, Instagram models selling protein, and Japanese anime being flat-out bonkers. So when you apply that style of animation to a character as iconic as Batman, I can only imagine what the result will be. And if this trailer is any indication, that result is going to be the Dark Knight unlike we’ve ever seen him.

Japanese anime is known for being quite graphic so it will be interesting to see what rating this ends up receiving. Despite being a cartoon, that doesn’t mean the content isn’t mature: last year Warner Bros. released an animated version of the Batman graphic novel classic The Killing Jokes that received an R-rating.

As fans of the character know, the direct-to-DVD animation miss are the most consistent Batman motion picture interpretation going these days (looking at you, DCEU), so hopefully this eccentric, yet definitely interesting project will continue that consistent quality we’ve come to expect.

The comics costumes get a Japanese makeover as the villains take over the forms of feudal lords ruling the divided land, led by The Joker himself. Batman, meanwhile, loses his high-tech weaponry in the time jump and is forced to rely on his intellect and pure brawn to bring these baddies down.

The feature-length animated film arrives on Digital starting April 24, 2018, and Blu-ray and DVD on May 8, 2018.

“We received no warnings,” Superintendent Robert Runcie told reporters outside the school. “Potentially there could have been signs out there. But we didn’t have any warning or phone calls or threats that were made.”

As for Gard, he said he believes the school administration earlier sent out an e-mail warning teachers that the student had made threats against others in the past and that he should not be allowed on the campus with a backpack.

Another student interviewed on the scene by WSVN-7 said the student had guns at home and talked about using them.

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School is located in Parkland, Florida. It is a part of the Broward County Public School district, and it is the only public high school in Parkland. Stoneman Douglas has an FCAT school grade of “A” for the 2016–2017 academic year.

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School was named after the Everglades environmentalist Marjory Stoneman Douglas. The school opened in 1990 with students in grades 9 though 11, most of whom transferred from nearby schools Coral Springs High School and J. P. Taravella High School. The first senior class graduated in 1992.

A school shooting occurred at the campus on February 14, 2018, leaving at least 20 people injured. The shooter is reportedly still at large.

On Wednesday, February 14, 17-year-old Nikolas Cruz opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, killing 17 people and injuring dozens more. Cruz legally purchased the AR-15 rifle he used in the shooting about a year ago.

Cruz was adopted by his mother, Lynda Cruz. More than three months ago, on November 1, Lynda Cruz died after battling the flu and pneumonia. According to CNN, Cruz’s father died over a decade ago due to a heart attack. Cruz’s cousin, Kathie Blaine, said she had last seen Lynda Cruz about 20 years ago and had never met Nikolas Cruz.

When asked who Cruz lived with since both of his adoptive parents had died, she said: “Nikolas was on his own. He is 19. He was an adult on his own. It’s really at this point, I don’t understand it any more than anyone else does. I can’t believe it. I can’t believe any of these school shootings. I never met him.”

Cruz had been living with a friend’s family since his mother died last year, Jim Lewis, a Ft. Lauderdale attorney who represents the family, told CNN affiliate WPEC.

Furthermore, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said Cruz’s digital profile contained what he called “very, very disturbing” content. He had a variety of gun and violence-related postings on social media sites.

President Donald Trump has issued a proclamation intended to honor the victims of the Parkside school shooting in Florida, adding that he will address the nation at 11 AM.

According to The Boston Globe, President Trump gave the following statement:

“Our Nation grieves with those who have lost loved ones in the shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. As a mark of solemn respect for the victims of the terrible act of violence perpetrated on February 14, 2018, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, February 19, 2018. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.”

Aaron Feis, a reportedly beloved assistant football coach and security guard at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, was among the 17 people killed Wednesday at the Parkland high school by 17-year-old gunman Nikolas Cruz.

According to reports, Feis threw himself in front of students as Cruz shot up the school on Wednesday. Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School was Feis’ alma mater.

Feis reportedly responded to the original call on the school’s security radio walkie-talkies when a staff member asked if the loud sounds heard were “firecrackers.” Feis then responded, “No, that is not firecrackers.”

Spokeswoman Denise Lehtio said of Feis: “He died the same way he lived — he put himself second,” Lehtio said. “He was a very kind soul, a very nice man. He died a hero.”

According to Douglas football coach Willis May, Feis’ family was notified around midnight Wednesday or very early Thursday morning. In a news conference late Wednesday night, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel referenced a football coach dying, but did not give a name.

Social media accounts throughout the day called Feis a hero, saying he was shot while helping a student. May said he heard directly from a student that Feis jumped between her and the shooter, to push her out through a door and out of the line of fire.

May was in his football office at the time of the shooting and went into a lockdown mode with four football players and two coaches from Nichols College, who were recruiting at the school when Mays heard “Code Red” over the intercom. He added they later saw the shooter outside the office window, trying to blend in with students evacuating.

Cruz, described as a “troubled teen” (who was still able to legally purchase a gun), reportedly threatened and harassed peers, talked about killing animals, posed with guns in disturbing photos on social media, and bragged about target practice in his backyard with a pellet gun.

Marjory Stoneman football coach Willis May said Feis was a “Big ol’ teddy bear.”

“Hardcore – he coached hard. Real good line. He did a great job with the [offensive] line. He took pride with working with those guys. Loyalty – I trusted him. He had my back. He worked hard. Just a good man. Loved his family. Loved his brother – just an excellent family man,” Mays said.
