Khloé Alexandra Kardashian, 33, is an American television personality, socialite, model, businesswoman, and entrepreneur. Rene Elena Carter, a former special education teacher in Montana, has been accused of repeatedly raping an underage student.

Carter appeared in court Thursday on felony charges of sexual intercourse without consent, with police saying that the victim was unable to give consent since he is a minor. Carter was employed as a teacher at Capital High School in Helena when she allegedly became sexually involved with the unidentified male student.

According to authorities, Carter had several sexual encounters with the boy until June 7, 2015. She resigned from the school district the next month.

In the document, police accuse her of repeatedly having sexual contact with a minor male who was not legally able to give consent, between early February 2015 and June 7, 2015.

Helena Public Schools superintendent Jack Copps told MTN News the reported victim was a student during that time. Copps was not serving as superintendent in 2015, but he said administrators did hear rumors that Carter was involved with a student.

“I am aware that the school district did investigate on its own to see if there was any evidence to support that,” he said. “The district did not find any at that time and referred the matter to the police department, and they investigated with the same results.”

This is the latest in a string of teacher sex scandals over the last couple of years. In November, Tennessee teacher Janet Smothers was arrested. Former nutrition teacher LaToya Parker was also arrested for a relationship with a student. Florida teacher Caroline Lawson was charged with sexual assault. 26-year-old Allyson Moran was also arrested for similar crimes. The 23-year-old high school teacher Katherine Ross Ridenhour was also arrested for an inappropriate relationship.

Furthermore, Hunter Day, 22, was also arrested after a sting operation. Megan Kotarski was also arrested on similar charges. Michelle Schiffer, a 23-year-old history teacher in Texas, was also charged and arrested for allegedly having sex with a teenage student. 29-year-old Alyssia Marie Reddy was arrested in Maryland for her crimes in New Jersey. Samantha Fitzgerland, a 28-year-old, was most recently arrested and charged. Jordan Ondish was arrested for her inappropriate relationship with a 19-year-old, while 28-year-old Samantha Fitzpatrick was arrested on similar charges.

Nicole Marie Andrews was arrested as well. 32-year-old Jessica Langford was arrested and charged with sexual assault-related crimes as well. A teacher from Oregon, Andrea Baber, was accused of having a sexual relationship with a student.  Robin Dunlap, a teacher in Florida, was arrested for sending illicit photos to a 15-year-old boy in Texas. Teacher and tennis coach Jennifer Olajire-Aro was also charged. 42-year-old Heather Butts of California was arrested on a second-degree felony charge. Nancy Leigh Ann Brann, a former Christian school teacher, was arrested for having sex with a student. Coine Audiat pleaded no contest to having sex with a minor in 2016. 23-year-old Darci Lake was arrested for an inappropriate relationship.

Valeria Costadoni was also arrested due to a relationship with her student. 40-year-old Kisha Nuckols was arrested for having sex with a student, too. Hilary Dattilo, a 30-year-old Ohio high school teacher, has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a female student. 30-year-old Missouri teacher Elizabeth Morgan was also arrested on similar charges. Trisha Anderson Rogers, a 47-year-old former student teacher at a North Carolina middle school was sentenced to eight months in prison after pleading guilty to soliciting a young student for sex. 39-year-old Texas teacher Marisela Winn was also charged for her relationship with a student. Gabrielle Bauman who admitted to having a relationship with a student was only sentenced to probation. 29-year-old Dori Meyers has denied accusations against her about a relationship with an underage student.

Kevin “Lovebug Starski” Smith, an icon of the New York hip-hop scene of the late 1970’s, and who may have been the one to originate the phrase “hip-hop,” has died at the age of 57 in his Las Vegas home, as confirmed by his manager.

Born Kevin Smith, he would later gain prominence through his stage name, “Lovebug Starski,” he got his start in the music industry as a DJ, working at Bronxhot spots like Disco Fever.

According to City Pages, Smith claimed to be the one who created the term, hip-hop.” As he explained, he originally created “hip, hop, hippy to the hippy hop-bop” as sort of a “nursery rhyme” for “party people.” Inspired by the West African tradition of call and response, he explained it more in depth:

“If I knew what it would turn out to be, don’t you think I’d copyright it?…Me and Kid Cowboy from the Furious Styles used to say it together…I’d say the ‘hip,’ he’d say the ‘hop.’ And then he stopped doing it, and I kept doing it.”

The phrase would later be popularized by the 1979 record Rapper’s Delight by The Sugarhill Gang.

Smith would later release other singles under the name, “Little Starsky,” such as “Gangster Rock” and “Dancin’ Party People.”

Smith was also immortalized in pop culture with Notorious B.I.G.’s popular 1994 single, “Juicy.” Referencing some of New York’s original DJs, the song contains the following lyrics:

“Whoever thought that hip-hop would take it this far? Peace to Ron G, Brucie B, Kid Capri, Funkmaster Flex, Lovebug Starski.”

In the news of his death, many artists offered their condolences on social media. Chuck D, calling Smith a “DJ, MC and innovator,” said the following in a statement with DX:

“A pioneer who excelled before and after the recording line of ’79, the year when rap records began.

“He DJ’ed for the great MCs and MC’ed with the great DJs.”

At just 19-years-old, American teenager Christian Pulisic is one of the most sought-after prospects in the soccer world. Easily the most talented soccer player to come out of the United States, Pulisic is all but set to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer for bigger and better things. The only question left is not when, but where.

After breaking into the first team at Dortmund this year, Pulisic has done nothing but impress scouts worldwide (damn shame we won’t see him in the World Cup this year — talk about a coming out party). And with Borussia Dortmund being a “selling” club, it was only a matter of time until one of the world’s “buying” clubs came knocking.

Early reports indicated that Premier League sides Liverpool and Manchester United were keen on the American teen, but now SI is reporting that soccer giants Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also interested in bringing Pulisic aboard.

The German club (Dortmund) have reportedly slapped a £90m price tag on their prized asset, which is perhaps an indicator of their reluctance to sell. Jurgen Klopp reportedly had an £11m bid for Pulisic turned down by Dortmund in the summer of 2016, but has continued to keep an eye on his progress, with Liverpool’s scouting team known to be following his progress.

Pulisic’s stock has risen considerably since the sale of Ousmane Dembele to Barcelona last summer, with the American teenager reportedly on the radar of not just Liverpool or United, but Real Madrid and Bayern Munich as well.

However, according to fellow countryman and former Premier League striker Brian McBride, Pulisic should move to Anfield (Liverpool) if afforded the luxury of picking.

Based on the information presented, I think its safe to say that Bayern Munich can be ruled out. While they are one of the world’s most important soccer club’s, I can’t imagine Pulisic A) staying in Germany and B) scorning Borussia Dortmund like that, who are direct rivals of Bayern.

So with that said, that leaves Manchester United, Liverpool, and Real Madrid, which no doubt presents an interesting dilemma for Pulisic.

Yes, quarterbacks do and should get an immense amount of credit for being able to make plays all over the field while being under constant duress. Yet, for how essential the position of the quarterback is to the success of an NFL team, this in no way diminishes the tremendous importance of having talented wide receivers that can both make incredible plays while bailing out their passers when they make a mistake. Although the top free agent receivers may be considered less than exceptional by some, there are several that are actually quite versatile and effective when it comes to going off for big chunks of yardage to sway the momentum and ultimately the outcome of a given contest. For any NFL franchises that are looking for prolific deep wideouts that can make plays quickly and often, look no further than these ten confident and capable pass catchers.

10. Taylor Gabriel

Averaging 11.5 yards per reception last season, Taylor Gabriel effectively used his speed and hands to make plays downfield. Despite his diminutive stature (5’8″), Gabriel is fantastic at creating separation from opposing defensive backs, a skill that has and will continue to serve him well with whatever team he suits up for next season.

9. Kendall Wright

Although the veteran receiver only caught one touchdown pass in 2017, Kendall Wright’s lack of production was more the result of playing for a bad team with a rookie quarterback rather than his supposedly diminished skills. With a contested catch rate of 76.5% (2nd amongst receivers), Wright is both highly physical and adept at catching the 50-50 balls, which will allow him to be a coveted receiving option for any team that likes to chuck the ball downfield.

8. John Brown

While John Brown has had issues with dropping balls during his career, his tremendous speed and quickness have allowed him to be fairly successful in the NFL (14.2 yards per reception). Combined with the fact that Brown is highly effective on special teams as a returner and the explosive albeit somewhat inconsistent receiver could be valuable in more ways than one for a team that is willing to take a chance on him.

7. Mike Wallace

Even at age 31, Mike Wallace is still a dangerous and capable receiving threat thanks to his deep pass catching abilities (14.4 yards per reception) while being able to go the distance after catching the ball. He may not be a number one option anymore, but Wallace is still too agile and athletic for a team that is devoid of receiving playmakers to pass on him.

6. Paul Richardson

Talk about a player that had a career year at the best possible time. Setting career highs in receiving yards (703), receiving touchdowns (6) and receptions (44), Paul Richardson proved to be invaluable for his quarterback in Russell Wilson who was constantly under pressure. Although his hands are not the best, Richardson is a strong route runner and is especially potent when he is in the red zone.

5. Terrelle Pryor

Sure, it would be easy to dismiss Terrelle Pryor as a one-hit wonder receiver given the disappointing season he had with the Washington Redskins. However, when you consider that the quarterback turned wide receiver was able to be highly productive with the Cleveland Browns two years ago (caught over 1,000 receiving yards in 2016) and it becomes clear that this athletic playmaker absolutely deserves another chance to prove what he is made of.

4. Marqise Lee

Although Marqise Lee has usually been a second or third wide receiver throughout his career, the humble yet effective pass catcher played well in the absence of both Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson throughout most of the season. Averaging 12.5 yards per reception, Lee was a dangerous deep threat target that could easily be a go-to target in an offense that likes to work the ball downfield.

3. Sammy Watkins

While injuries have held back Sammy Watkins from being the elite playmaker he is capable of consistently, he flourished in the high-octane offense of the Los Angeles Rams last season. Although he only brought in 593 receiving yards in 2017, Watkins was highly effective and reliable as an endzone target (eight receiving touchdowns). Helping Jared Goff reach a quarterback rating of 115.9 when the ball was thrown his way (5th in the NFL), Watkins constantly proved that he still has all of the abilities needed to be a number one wideout in the NFL.

2. Allen Robinson

Although Robinson played in just one game last season, the elite pass-catcher has been practically unstoppable when healthy. If the young and highly athletic receiver can go to a team that has even just a decent passer, he could easily match if not surpass the exceptional numbers he put up three years ago during the 2015 season (1,400 receiving yards, 14 touchdowns).

1. Jarvis Landry

Despite having to catch passes from the apathetic and below average quarterback that is Jay Cutler, Jarvis Landry still managed to look like a superstar that was never afraid to shoulder most of the weight of his team’s offense. Amassing 112 receptions in 2017 to go along with nine receiving touchdowns (both career highs), Landry was incredibly productive and reliable. At 25 years of age, Landry is still in the middle of his prime and could be much more productive with a quarterback that has both the tremendous arm strength and accuracy to get the ball in his vicinity.

Mardi Gras History

Mardis Gras is a variation of Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday, starting the Lenten season. As people traditionally give up an “indulgence,” a harmless thing they enjoy, like a certain food or drink, for Lent, Fat Tuesday is often used as an excuse to indulge in whatever you give up while you still can. Hence the parades and costumes and all that jazz, as such! It’s the last chance to have fun before midnight!

The New Orleans Mardis Gras celebration, if the name isn’t enough of a clue, has its origins with the French-Canadians. When explorer Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne Sieur de Bienville, the “Father of New Orleans,” came to the area, he even gave it the name “Pointe du Mardi Gras” after his crew realized the holiday was coming up. In time, the holiday became a staple in the area after he founded New Orleans in 1718.

And in case you didn’t know, Mardi Gras is just French for Fat Tuesday. It’s kind of why I switch back and forth using both names.

The festival’s official website also gives the following advice:

“The most popular time to visit New Orleans is the extended weekend before Mardi Gras (February 9- 13). Come then and you’ll be sure to catch the most popular parades, like Endymion, Bacchus, Zulu, Rex and all of the festive celebrations throughout the whole city.”

An active shooter at the Hawthorne at Linden Park on 1260 St. Francis Court in Locust Grove in Georgia has hit three officers.

On social media, the Henry County Sheriff confirmed that two Henry County deputies and one Locust Grove officer were shot. Two were airlifted to local hospitals and one was taken by ambulance. The man who shot them is now believed to be dead. Reports of the shootings were confirmed by Henry County police spokesman Joey Smith.

The identity of the suspect and the three officers is currently unknown to the public at this time.

What happens now?

The Gwinnett County Police Department released the following message on social media:

Many local schools have been placed on lockdown. Three children had been brought out of a house in the area and were taken to a neighboring residence. Police also blocked off multiple entrances of a subdivision near a local outlet mall, with police also turning away people who do not live in the neighborhood. One home’s front yard was also covered with yellow police tape.

A second active shooting situation was believed to be ongoing at Summit Racing in McDonough, but police later confirmed that it was not an active scene and had no connection to the incident. Around the time, a shooting had also taken place at the Georgia veteran’s home, but that incident is also believed to be unrelated.

The Henry County Fire Department Station No. 2 has planned a new conference expected to air at 2 PM.

What a blast life must be when you become elderly. This man is so responsibility free he literally has no idea how old he is. 78, 88, 98 — doesn’t matter in the slightest to him.

This guy was born in 1919. Think about that for a second. He’s lived through:

-World War II

-The nuclear bomb

-The moon landing

-The cold war

-The first black President

-The first orange President

-The invention of the internet & smartphones

-The birth of the NFL

-And countless other generation-defining moments.

Yet despite all that, at the end of the day, he’s just a guy sitting in his kitchen with his (presumably) grandson, picking his teeth, wondering how the hell old he is and how the hell he got so old so fast. And he still drops a mean F-bomb.

Honestly, the more and more I sit here typing, the more this dude becomes my hero.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has announced a new program that will give free tuition for four years to low-income families.

The new program, called Bucky’s Tuition Promise, guarantees free tuition and no fees for eight semesters for incoming freshmen and four semesters for transfer students who come from low-to-moderate income homes. Qualifying homes make no more than $56,000 annually.

Currently, in-state tuition and fees at the University of Wisconsin-Madison are $10,533 per year.

“Many low- and middle-income families in Wisconsin simply don’t know whether they can afford to come to UW-Madison,” Chancellor Rebecca Blank said as she announced the pledge during a UW System regents meeting Thursday. “Indeed, if they just read the popular press about student debt and sky-rocketing tuition their assumption will be that they can’t. We want to make it very clear to low- and moderate-income families in Wisconsin that we’re going to do everything we can to make this an affordable school.”

UW officials anticipate more than 800 students in each new incoming class of freshmen and transfer students will take advantage of the pledge. They estimate the plan will cost about $825,000 per year. By the time four classes of students join the initiative it will cost about $3.3 million annually.

Bucky’s Tuition Promise is set to begin this fall. Six other Big Ten schools — Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State and Purdue — offer a similar program.

Yesterday, we brought you the report from Variety that Academy Award-nominee Joaquin Phoenix was in talks to star as The Joker in Todd Phillips’ untitled, Martin Scorce-producedded Joker origin story.

Furthermore, insiders stressed that Jared Leto, who currently plays the Joker in the DCEU, is still portraying the character in that section of the cinematic universe. Simply put, Phoenix’s potential casting has absolutely no effect on Leto’s role.

Yeah, it’s confusing to say the least.

And it’s also a TERRIBLE idea for about a dozen reasons, but we’ll just run through the main one: that the appeal of The Joker is that even BATMAN HIMSELF can’t figure out who the hell he is or where the hell he came from.

What makes the character of the Joker so enthralling is his ambiguity — in fact, some Batman stories have wondered if the Joker is a manifestation of eternal evil — so putting a real name to the Joker’s iconic white face only undermines everything the character is actually about.

While the prospect of Phoenix in this roll is a tantalizing one, I just don’t have the faith in Warner Bros. to pull it off.

Often making it as a professional athlete or entertainer seems like the only alternative to actually going to college, but one such person recently decided to remind the world just how important education is by enrolling in school after becoming an Olympic gold medalist.

Simone Biles is a world champion and Olympic gold medalist with 19 medals to her name has recently enrolled online at the University of the People, an accredited online university. Already serving as a global ambassador for the school, she is now studying for a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

Before the Rio Summer Games in 2016, Biles committed to the University of Los Angeles, but her schedule got in the way of her studying.

In a statement with VOA News, Biles explained her decision to further pursue schooling:

“I think it’s a good time to start, so that you don’t wait too-too long to start. So that you won’t want to go back. I could have picked any time, but this was the perfect opportunity.”

Biles has also established a scholarship fund in her name to help students afford test fees at the school. Many help students within the foster-care system, just as Biles herself had been. As she explained in the following statement:

“A lot of them age out of the system and they don’t feel like they have the same opportunity as other kids.”

Biles also discussed how the school’s unconventional nature could be a benefit to all kinds of students:

“I haven’t had a traditional school experience for a while, actually going into a classroom and sitting down,” said Biles, who left public school to be homeschooled during her high school years.

“The traditional way won’t work for me and I understand that. So it’s OK … online it is.”

“I didn’t want the headlines, once I go out and compete again, to be, you know, that be the title of me, rather than what I have to offer for this sport.”

What is the school like?

The University of the People is an accredited online university, that is also nonprofit and tuition-free.

In addition to offering a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, as Biles is pursuing, the school is also offering an MBA (master’s of business administration) degree, with similar degrees in computer science and health science.

While officially labeled “tuition-free,” with the school funded by private and public donations, students still pay assessment fees of $100 per exam. For the school, an associate degree costs around $2,060 and a bachelor’s degree costs around $4,060.

Reginald Eugene “Reg E.” Cathey, the Emmy-winning actor, known for his roles in House of Cards, The Wire and Oz, has passed away at the age of 59.

Born in Alabama and raised in Germany, Cathey studied at the University of Michigan and at Yale School of Drama before becoming famous for his work in HBO dramas. Known for his deep, authoritative, gravelly voice, he often played villainous characters.

Television writer and producer, David Simon, whom Cathey frequently collaborated with, shared the news of the actor’s passing on social media. Giving the following statement:

Reg Cathey, 1958-2018. Not only a fine, masterful actor — but simply one of the most delightful human beings with whom I ever shared some long days on set. On wit alone, he could double any man over and leave him thinking. Reg, your memory is a great blessing.

According to TMZ, the actor passed away at his home in New York, surrounded by friends and family, adding that he had been struggling with lung cancer in the last years of his life.

Villanova can use its depth and balanced offense to wear out its opponents which is what it will attempt to do on Saturday. Expect a lot of players to contribute on the offensive end against Butler as a result.

As for my prediction, I have to side with Villanova. Villanova is clearly the deeper and more talented team and I expect Villanova to force the ball out of Martin’s hands frequently in order to force someone else to beat them. I think Villanova’s offense will have another big game as it carries the Wildcats to another victory.

Purdue is currently shooting 42.7% from the three point line and the team ranks eighth in all of college basketball in assists per game. This combo makes Purdue almost impossible to outscore which is what Michigan State will have to do on Saturday if it wants to win this contest.

As for my prediction, I have to side with Michigan State. I personally think that these two teams are relatively even but I think that Michigan State’s home court will provide enough of a spark to allow the Spartans to win this contest.

Soccer’s offense is important to the game; however, let’s check on the two teams’ goalkeepers.

Hugo Lloris remains a real Tottenham asset and one of the most highly-regarded goalkeepers in the Premier League.

The Frenchman and Spurs captain has kept 10 clean sheets in the Premier League this season and conceded 23 goals in 24 matches and you rarely see him culpable for conceding a goal.

Wenger said he will decide on Friday whether Peter Cech is ready to start against Tottenham. David Ospina would come in if Cech isn’t fully fit but he has only featured in 20 minutes of Premier League football this season.

A double-decker bus crash happening Saturday in the Tai Po area of Hong Kong has claimed the lives of 17 men and 2 women, with dozens of injured survivors.

Many early reports of the incident claimed only 18 people were killed in the crash; later accounts increased the number to 19. According to The New York Times, the crash is believed to be one of the deadliest Hong Kong has even seen since 2003, in which 21 people were killed after another double-decker bus broke through a guardrail, knocking it off the road. A sum payment of HK$80,000 ($10,230) will be given to the families of victims.

Images of the scene showed the passenger bus lying on its side, with the top of the bus appearing to have been ripped off.

The bus crashed near the site of a large horse racecourse; special arrangements have been made in order to accommodate heavy traffic.

UPDATE: The number of those injured in the crash was later given as being more than 60, according to Channel News Asia. Of the inured, ten were said to be in critical condition and another 20 were seriously wounded. Most of the dead and injured had been on the upper deck of the bus.

The driver was suspected to be over the speed limit as we went down a slope, which could have caused him to lose control of the vehicle. After the crash, he was not in need of medical treatment and was found to be sober.

Reportedly, passengers on the bus have said that it was going too fast before the fatal crash. According to Sky News, one injured passenger later gave the following account:

“It was much faster than I normally felt in a bus and then it was like the tyre slipped, and the bus turned. It was really chaotic in the bus. People fell on one another and got tossed from side to side.”

Kansas State’s success is due to its balanced offense. This season, Kansas State has four separate players who are averaging over 11 points per game. Two of these players are forwards while the other two are guards. This balance allows the Wildcats to defeat teams in a variety of ways. They can either use their physicality to wear you down or their elite shooting from the outside. Expect Kansas State to use their balanced attack on Saturday to keep the Red Raiders’ defense off-guard.

As for my prediction, I have to side with Texas Tech. There is a reason why Texas Tech is currently ranked in the top ten while Kansas State is not. Texas Tech’s defense is elite and should be able to dominate the pace of play. Expect Texas Tech to make Kansas State’s offense out of sync due to its defensive pressure as the Red Raiders squeak out a close victory.
