Dori Myers, a 29-year-old Bronx high school teacher who was accused of performing oral sex on a 14-year-old student, denied the charges on Saturday, January 20. She was arrested on Friday, January 19 and charged with criminal sexual act in the second degree and endangering the welfare of a child.

After she pled not guilty to a single count each of criminal sexual act and endangering the welfare of a child, Myers was released without bail.

Myers, who was teaching social studies at the New School for Leadership and the Arts in Kingsbridge, was given a 30-day order of protection requiring her to stay away from the unidentified victim.

via NY Post:

Prosecutors initially requested a $50,000 bail and said Myers “abused her position as a trusted authority figure,” but Judge Laura Drager eventually released the teacher on her own recognizance.

Cops got word of the incident after the boy, believed to be Myers’ student, told a classmate. The classmate then notified a school administrator, according to police. The alleged assault took place in Upper Manhattan on Nov. 1, according to a criminal complaint.

Myers who lives in Rockland County where her husband is a sheriff’s deputy, denied the allegations, said lawyer, Andrew Stoll. Stoll noted the teacher had started a track team at the Bronx school, where she had worked since 2014.

The Department of Education said that the allegations “deeply troubling” and said that Meyers was immediately reassigned “away from students.”

This is the latest in a string of teacher/student sex scandals over the last couple of years. In November, Tennessee teacher Janet Smothers was arrested. Former nutrition teacher LaToya Parker was also arrested for a relationship with a student. Florida teacher Caroline Lawson was charged with sexual assault. 26-year-old Allyson Moran was also arrested for similar crimes. The 23-year-old high school teacher Katherine Ross Ridenhour was also arrested for an inappropriate relationship.

Furthermore, Hunter Day, 22, was also arrested after a sting operation. Megan Kotarski was also arrested on similar charges. Michelle Schiffer, a 23-year-old history teacher in Texas, was also charged and arrested for allegedly having sex with a teenage student. 29-year-old Alyssia Marie Reddy was arrested in Maryland for her crimes in New Jersey. Samantha Fitzgerland, a 28-year-old, was most recently arrested and charged. Jordan Ondish was arrested for her inappropriate relationship with a 19-year-old, while 28-year-old Samantha Fitzpatrick was arrested on similar charges.

Nicole Marie Andrews was arrested as well. 32-year-old Jessica Langford was arrested and charged with sexual assault-related crimes as well. A teacher from Oregon, Andrea Baber, was accused of having a sexual relationship with a student.  Robin Dunlap, a teacher in Florida, was arrested for sending illicit photos to a 15-year-old boy in Texas. Teacher and tennis coach Jennifer Olajire-Aro was also charged. 42-year-old Heather Butts of California was arrested on a second-degree felony charge. Nancy Leigh Ann Brann, a former Christian school teacher, was arrested for having sex with a student. Coine Audiat pleaded no contest to having sex with a minor in 2016. 23-year-old Darci Lake was arrested for an inappropriate relationship.

Valeria Costadoni was also arrested due to a relationship with her student. 40-year-old Kisha Nuckols was arrested for having sex with a student, too. Hilary Dattilo, a 30-year-old Ohio high school teacher, has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a female student. 30-year-old Missouri teacher Elizabeth Morgan was also arrested on similar charges. Trisha Anderson Rogers, a 47-year-old former student teacher at a North Carolina middle school was sentenced to eight months in prison after pleading guilty to soliciting a young student for sex. 39-year-old Texas teacher Marisela Winn was also charged for her relationship with a student.

Josh Hart- NCAA Tournament Five players to watch

NEW YORK, NY – MARCH 11: Josh Hart #3 of the Villanova Wildcats drives to the basket against the Creighton Bluejays during the Big East Basketball Tournament – Championship Game at Madison Square Garden on March 11, 2017 in New York City. (Photo by Mike Stobe/Getty Images)

Every college basketball fan knows all too well how prevalent upsets can be during any given week of this cantankerous and infinitely enjoyable sport. But this week…it was a rough time for any program that had a number next to the name of their respective academic institutions. Not only did four of the top 10 teams in the country lose this week, but three of those four supposed top tier programs lost twice! Simply put, last week was a bombshell of utter chaos and confusion as many perennial National Title contenders sustained questionable losses and will have to rebound valiantly if they have any hope of garnering a favorable seed come March Madness. While the highly anticipated tournament is still roughly two months away, this is the time where the truly great programs need to separate themselves from the overconfident pretenders that will inevitably continue to drop down the rankings into the dreaded basement of irrelevancy.

1. Villanova Wildcats

With an offense that both scores (87.9 PPG) and moves the basketball effectively (17.6 APG), the Wildcats have rarely been reliant on their average defense to help them overcome most of the opponents they have faced in the Big East. Although no team is safe at the top of the rankings, the Wildcats have been merciless when it comes to out scoring their opponents early and are not showing any signs of slowing down in that department.

2. Virginia Cavaliers

You know that story. The Cavaliers are fantastic on defense and play well enough offensively to score aggressively in transition and underneath the basket in half-court situations. If the Cavaliers can take out the highly prolific Blue Devils this week, they will have emphatically proved that a top-ranked defense is more than enough to win consistently and to potentially go far in the NCAA Tournament.

3. Purdue Boilermakers

The only bad thing you can say about the Boilermakers is that they have not played a ranked opponent since defeating Louisville earlier in the season (November 28th). With that being said, Purdue has done exactly what an elite program is supposed to do: they have almost always handily defeated the unranked opposition they have encountered. With Michigan coming into town for a revenge contest, the Boilermakers will get another opportunity to prove that they should rightfully be considered one of the best programs in the country.

4. Duke Blue Devils

During their last four games, the Duke Blue Devils have been playing well to fantastic defensively as they have held their opponents to 75 points or less during their four-game winning streak. Granted, these impressive defensive showings came against Pittsburgh twice, Wake Forest and Miami, but at least Duke has finally realized that if they can at least be average at preventing their opponents from scoring that they can be one of the best programs in the country down the stretch of the regular season.

5. Xavier Musketeers

Overcoming Seton Hall in their latest victory thanks to some impressive shooting late in the game, the Musketeers are once again vying for the top spot in the Big East. Although it would be wishful thinking for the top-ranked Wildcats to slip up anytime soon, the Musketeers have to be chomping at the bit to get revenge against the Wildcats when they face each other again on February 17th.

6. Kansas Jayhawks

Although a close call win over Baylor at home revealed some lingering issues with this programs inconsistency issues when scoring the basketball, their tenacity on the defensive end has been their saving grace in their last three wins. If the Jayhawks can get an impressive win over Oklahoma this week, they could create some much-desired separation between themselves and the rest of the Big 12.

7. Michigan State Spartans

Although it’s been a bumpy road for the Spartans in their last four games (2-2), there is not much doubt how great this team can be on offense and defense when they are firing on all cylinders (85.2 PPG, 63.7 PAPG). Considering they do not face a ranked opponent until February 10th (Purdue), the Spartans should be able to work out their inconsistency issues without suffering too much in terms of sustaining upset defeats.

8. Cincinnati Bearcats

Although the offense of the Bearcats has been anything but productive for the most part, they have actually stepped up impressively in three of their last four games (have scored 76 points or more in those affairs). Defensively, the Bearcats have been nothing short of terrific as they have not allowed an opponent to score more than 60 total points since December 21st against Cleveland State.

9. North Carolina Tar Heels

Holding three of their last four opponents to under 70 total points, the Tar Heels are beginning to establish themselves as something more than just a relentless shooting program. If the Tar Heels can consistently stifle opponents defensively while relentlessly shooting the ball at a high rate (82.7 PPG), they could quickly become one of the favorites to win it all by the end of the season.

10. West Virginia Mountaineers

Despite losing two of their last three games, the Mountaineers have remained true to their identity of playing dominant defense. However, their offense has come up short in their two recent losses to Kansas and Texas Tech, something that can be fixed fairly easily considering four of their five starters are currently averaging double-digit points per game.

11. Arizona Wildcats

Despite looking wildly inconsistent on offense and defense recently, the scrappy Wildcats have been able to play well enough on either side of the court to win tight games down the stretch. In order for the Wildcats to continue their winning ways, they will need their electric offense to step consistently if they hope to reach their potential of being considered National Title contenders (82.2 PPG).

12. Gonzaga Bulldogs

Against Saint Mary’s, the Bulldogs had a grand opportunity to assert themselves as a legitimately competitive program that could at least beat the one competitive opponent in their conference. Unfortunately for Gonzaga, they were unable to convert on enough possessions to beat a well-rounded Saint Mary’s team that will likely hold onto the top spot in the West Coast Conference until these two programs face off again in mid-February.

13. Ohio State Buckeyes

Undefeated in Big 10 Conference play (8-0), the surprising and highly competitive Buckeyes have ground out several impressive victories thanks to their now elite defense (have held six of their last seven opponents to under 70 total points). Although they may not have the dominant athletes like some of the perceived elite programs in college basketball, they have enough reliable shooters to assist a defense that is finally starting to hit its stride.

14. Auburn Tigers

Aside from a devastating loss to Alabama, the Tigers have been a program that has continued to persevere despite being hit particularly hard by the FBI probe that resulted with two of their best players being suspended indefinitely. If they can continue to play the glass this effectively while converting their extra opportunities into points (85.3 PPG, 72.4 PAPG), they could win the SEC outright by the end of the regular season.

15. Arizona State Sun Devils

While the Sun Devils are clearly trending downward, they have been the fortunate beneficiaries of some immense chaos above them while winning enough close games to keep themselves relevant in the Pac-12. Eventually, though, the Sun Devils will be in danger of dropping out of the rankings if their gifted sharpshooters continue to fail when it comes to carrying this exciting albeit one-dimensional offense.

16. Oklahoma Sooners

Even when superstar Trae Young scores 48 points in a game (see the loss to Oklahoma State), the Sooners still do not have what it takes to win against lesser opponents. Turning over the ball at an alarming rate of 14 times per game (Young contributes over five turnovers per game) while allowing 81.6 PPG, the Sooners are finally being punished for playing too loose with the basketball and are coming to the realization that you need more than an electric offense to win in a sport that is rife with parity and worthy competitors.

17. Texas Tech Red Raiders

Without question, it was a tough week for some of the top-ranked teams in the Big 12. However, the Red Raiders arguably suffered the most as they have lost three of their last four games, with their last two losses coming against opponents that are currently in the basement of the Big 12 standings (Texas, Iowa State). While their defense has played enough, it has been their progressively worsening offense that has done them in during this tough stretch (have not scored more than 75 in their last five games).

18. Wichita State Shockers

One of several top-ranked programs to lose twice last week, the once fearlessly competitive Shockers dropped back-t0-back games to unranked opponents for the first time since November 2015. While the Shockers have the prolific offense to bounce back, their lack of effort on the defensive end recently has to be rectified if they hope to reclaim the moniker of being one of the top programs in college basketball.

19. Saint Mary’s Gaels

With a thrilling win against their hated rivals in the Gonzaga Bulldogs on the road, the Gaels have firmly taken hold of the top spot in the West Coast Conference and will likely hold onto that coveted spot for the remainder of the season. Effective on both offense and defense (80.1 PPG, 65.9 PAPG), the Gaels have the discipline and personnel to become a dark horse program once the NCAA Tournament commences.

20. Tennessee Volunteers

With a 4-3 record in the SEC, the Volunteers are doing just enough to keep themselves near the top of their conference standings. Although their finicky offense is a serious concern (77.7 PPG), the Volunteers have been able to overcome their noticeable deficiencies by playing strong defense down the stretch of close games.

21. Clemson Tigers

While the unlikely success story of the Tigers has begun to become less majestic and intriguing in their last four games (2-2), they have nevertheless remained committed to grinding out tough victorious with an opportunistic defense that prides itself on preventing their opponents from making easy shots (six BPG). It may not always be pretty, but the Tigers have an established identity that has proven to be effective more often than not.

22. Michigan Wolverines

Although Michigan’s anemic offense looked particularly dreadful in a 72-52 loss to Nebraska last week, the physically imposing Wolverines were able to overcome this brutal defeat by winning their other two games last week against both Maryland and Rutgers. While the Wolverines have to establish some type of continuity as a shooting team if they hope to remain in the conversation as a Big 10 title contender (74.5 PPG), their relentless defense should be able to carry them until they can establish a more dynamic and competitive presence offensively (62.5 PAPG).

23. Kansas State Wildcats

Although the Wildcats are not particularly dominant on either offense or defense, they are a team that knows how to play the big boys of their conference extremely tough (won two of their last three games, all contests were against ranked opponents). If this team can continue to be tenacious when it comes to forcing turnovers (eight SPG) they could find themselves being one of the top dogs in the incredibly competitive and deep Big 12 Conference.

24. Creighton Blue Jays

Considering how this season has transpired for the Blue Jays thus far, this program should have a place reserved in spots 23-25 of the rankings every other week. Just when it appears that the Blue Jays are going cold shooting wise and lack a sufficient defense to be competitive, they somehow manage to rally and pull off an impressive win over a conference opponent. With the Blue Jays facing the deadly Wildcats in a couple of weeks, it becomes fair to wonder if this team has the potential to become a sleeper contender if they can play great basketball consistently.

25. Rhode Island Rams

Over the past couple of weeks, the defensively scrappy Rams have been flirting with a spot in the top-25 and have sneaked their way in the rankings this week due to the immense amount of chaos above them. Currently riding a 10 game winning streak, the Rams may have just enough going for them defensively to remain highly competitive in the A-10 Conference (66.7 PAPG).

The Kardashians/Jenners Did An Objectively Hot Photo Shoot For Calvin Klein

First, I apologize. I know, after essentially 15 years now, that everyone is sick of the Kardashians and the Jenners. If you aren’t at least mildly annoyed by the Kardashian’s everlasting presence in the world at this point, then somethings up with you.

But, that said, they bring the heat — there’s no denying it. Whether it be through natural science or modern science, the Kardashians/Jenners are still as hot as ever, starting with Kim all the way down to Kylie. Yes, Kylie too, who despite being the subject of pregnancy rumors, appears in the photo shoot, albeit all covered up.

According to Daily Mail,  the spring/summer campaign was shot by photographer Willy Vanderperre.

via Daily Mail:

The Kardashian and Jenner sisters have joined forces for a very sexy underwear campaign for Calvin Klein. Kim Kardashian, 37, steals the show wearing a white bra and briefs from the iconic label, which were huge in the 90s. But her sisters Kourtney, 38, and Kendall Jenner, 22, prove that less can be more, as they posed topless wearing just a pair of briefs and jeans.

She covers her bump in every image, which appear to have been taken a few months before Khloe, 33, who is also pregnant had the visible bump which she now proudly sports. While Kim welcomed her baby, Chicago West, on Tuesday via gestational surrogate, Khloe is just over six months along. She announced her pregnancy with an Instagram snap of herself and her boyfriend Tristan Thompson while wearing Calvin Klein’s, as a hint of what was to come.

The spring/summer campaign represents the latest iteration of the evolution in the CALVIN KLEIN brand’s globally recognized #MYCALVINS call to action: Our Family. Shot by photographer Willy Vanderperre, the latest chapter of this new campaign features the siblings are featured wearing styles of underwear which are already out in stores.

Georgia State University Soccer Player Suspended For Posting Racist Snapchat

Natalia Martinez, a freshman on Georgia State women’s soccer, has been suspended from the university’s team after using the N-word on social media on Friday, January 19, 2018. Her name no longer appears on the team’s roster.

According to reports, Martinez posted a photo on Instagram with the captions “I passed N***ers”. Specifically, the post was posted on Martinez’s “Finsta”, a “fake Instagram” account that has become popular amongst millennials.

A petition has appeared online calling for Martinez, a freshman defender from Florida, to be expelled.

via iPetitions:

On 01/19/2018, Natalia Gomez, a member of the Georgia State University Soccer Team, posted racial slurs towards other black students calling them “niggers”. As a result, Natalia was only temporarily suspended from the GSU athletics soccer team. As a progressive, diverse university, we GSU students feel like this sort of behavior should not be tolerated and that Natalia should be expelled from the university.

Georgia State’s mission statement states that we “provide an outstanding education and exceptional support for students from all backgrounds”, and these Panther values are not concurrent with the very disturbing statements made publicly by the GSU freshman and soccer player. Please support our effort in keeping our university a positive, hate-free environment by signing this petition to have Natalia Gomez expelled from Georgia State University

Georgia State University released a statement on Twitter about Martinez:

“Georgia State Athletics is aware of an incident on social media involving one of our student-athlete code on Friday.

We do not tolerate the language the student used in her post. Pursuant to our student-athlete code of conduct, she has been suspended from the soccer team.”

Patch reports that Martinez played four games for the Georgia State Panthers in 2017, is a native of Elizabeth, New Jersey, and played high school soccer in Weston, Florida. At the time of this writing, the petition to have Martinez expelled has over 500 signatures.

Martinez’s suspension comes a week after University of Alabama student and Alpha Phi sorority sister Harley Barber was expelled for her racist social media posts.

Although the Big 12 has largely dominated the national spotlight over the last several weeks, there is currently a perennially competitive conference that is now starting to take center stage in the college basketball limelight: the ACC. With Duke, North Carolina, and Virginia currently playing their best basketball, the top-heavy conference is well represented with well-rounded powerhouse programs that will look to prove themselves this week. In particular, the contest between Duke and Virginia this Saturday will be essential in determining who deserves to be considered the kings of a conference that has almost always been locked up by the likes of the aforementioned Blue Devils and Tar Heels. Inevitably, chaos will permeate throughout college basketball with several highly-touted programs coming back down to earth at the hands of sleeping giant killers that are waiting for their moment to shine.

Super Bowl 52

The 2017-18 NFL season has certainly been filled with plenty of twists and turns that would’ve had Nostradamus scratching his head. The Super Bowl matchup in Minnesota has proven to be no exception. Well, most probably assumed that Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, and the New England Patriots would make their way to the big dance. It’s almost a given at this point. The quarterback and head coach duo have already been to seven Super Bowls, winning an impressive five. No other QB and head coach has even been to seven Super Bowls, and Brady and Belichick have already booked flights to their eight. Their route to Minnesota didn’t come without a few twists though. The divisional round against the Tennessee Titans was vintage Patriots. They outcoached, outplayed, and blew out the inferior team from Nashville. The final score was 35-14. Tom Brady threw for 337 yards and 3 TDs, and Rob Gronkowski had 81 yards and 1 TD. Everyone expected more of the same as the Pats took on the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Championship. For the first three quarters, that was not the case. In the beginning of the fourth, the Jags were up 20-10 and looked like they were going to shock the Pats and the rest of the NFL community. Unfortunately for Jacksonville, Brady did Brady things in the final quarter. He threw two TDs to his favorite WR this post-season, Danny Amendola. The final score of the game was 24-20, Patriots. Gronk exited the game with a concussion, but early reports say he will clear protocol well before the Super Bowl in two weeks.

Super Bowl 2018 Details

Time: Sunday, Feb. 4th, 6:30 PM E.T.
Location: U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, Minnesota
TV Channel: NBC
Spread: Patriots (-5.5)
Over-Under: 47.5

On the opposite side of the spectrum is a team that no informed expert thought would advance, even as the top seed in the NFC. They’ve never won a Lombardi Trophy before and with a backup quarterback, Nick Foles, who had one good season (four years ago), surely their first wouldn’t come this year. It’s the unexpected Philadelphia Eagles. Their season started with few expectations, but they quickly gained some steam towards the end of the year as their defense and franchise quarterback, Carson Wentz, were playing lights out. Everything came to a crashing halt, however, when Wentz tore his ACL against the LA Rams in week 14. Few thought the Eagles would be able to overcome another devastating injury. Head coach, Doug Pederson, has said his team’s mentality has always been “next man up”, and this time it was Nick Foles that needed to fill in. So far, he’s done just that. They started their quest in the divisional round against a favorited Atlanta Falcons. It wasn’t a picture perfect day for the offense, but they were able to lean on S Malcolm Jenkins and DT Fletcher Cox and scrap their way to a 15-10 victory. Next up in the NFC Championship was the Minnesota Vikings, where the Birds were underdogs again. They put on a display for the ages and absolutely dominated the Purple People Eaters on both sides of the ball. Nick Foles went off. He threw for 352 yards, 3 TDs, and had a near perfect 141.4 RTG. The defense came to play too, recording 3 TOs and a TD for themselves. It was all Eagles, beating the Vikings 38-7. Now, they’re headed to Minnesota to meet a Patriots team that is quite familiar with sport’s biggest stage. The Birds are underdogs again and apparently, that’s just the way they like it. They look to walk out of Minnesota with their first-ever Super Bowl win.

It’s a game and a tale of two different cities. Two different stories, and two very different Super Bowl histories. If this season has taught us anything though it’s that we should ignore what’s on paper and just expect the unexpected.

Cavaliers vs. Spurs Live Stream: How to Watch NBA Basketball Online

With about half the NBA season completed, there is a game between two elite opponents. These teams are the Cleveland Cavaliers and the San Antonio Spurs. The Cavaliers entered the season with the greatest chance to dethrone the Golden State Warriors as the franchise hopes to win its second championship in three seasons. However, the Cavaliers have underachieved this season and are currently third in the Eastern Conference standings. Their opponents in this contest, the San Antonio Spurs, have been overachieving so far this season and are currently third in the Western Conference standings despite the absence of their best player for the majority of the season. Since it is likely that these teams will be in the playoffs, expect this game to be extremely competitive.

Cleveland’s success is due to its best player LeBron James. This season, James is averaging 26.8 points per game on an absurd shooting percentage of 55.3% from the floor. However, James has contributed in a variety of ways besides scoring. James is also averaging about eight rebounds along with over eight assists per game. Although he is in his 15th NBA season, James has showed no signs of slowing down. James is a contender to win the MVP award this season and now has a chance to cement his case in a nationally televised game. Expect James to have a huge game if the Cavaliers plan on winning this contest.

San Antonio’s success is due to its elite defense and bench production. The Spurs, led by star forward Kawhi Leonard, were expected to compete for an NBA championship this season. However, Leonard has only played in nine out of the team’s 48 games this season and the team is still 30-18. One major reason for the team’s ability to win without its best player is its defense. This season, the Spurs have allowed the fewest points per game in the NBA and have used their stifling defense to win a ton of low scoring contests. The Spurs also have the sixth-highest scoring bench in the NBA and use its tremendous depth to tire out their opponents. If the Spurs plan on winning this contest, expect its bench to play extremely well.

As for my prediction, I have to side with the Spurs. Since Cleveland is in the midst of a slump, I expect the Cavaliers to continue to struggle against this elite foe. The Spurs have won 19 of their 22 home games this season and I expect them to play extremely well once again at home on Tuesday.

Trade Insurance For Your Jersey Might Be the Best Thing Ever Created

If you’re like me, you clicked on this just to figure out what the heck I mean by Jersey Insurance. For clarification purposes, I am not talking about New Jersey but sports jerseys. Fanatics which is the #1 selling sports jersey company in the U.S. has offered a new deal to its customers. The deal is if you get a jersey and that player changes teams within three months of you getting the jersey you can swap it with their new jersey or for another players jersey on the original team for free! You have two weeks from the time the player is moved to do this, but holy crap is this a great idea!

“We found out that 25 percent of fans were worried that the jerseys they purchase would become obsolete,” said Co-President of Fanatics’ direct-to-consumer business. “So by doing this, this is a major paint point we are solving.”

This philosophy soft opened earlier in the NFL season when Saints fans returned their Adrian Peterson jerseys after he was traded to the Cardinals after just a handful of weeks. 90% of the fans returned their jerseys for another Saints player, but this new philosophy made them more likely to continue purchasing jerseys.

I have personally stopped buying jerseys of current players because I have what I call a “jersey curse” and it doesn’t matter which sport either.

Here’s an example of my jersey curse over the years:

  • Tiki Barber, Retired two month after I got it.
  • Brandon Jacobs, Released a month later.
  • Kevin Boss, Released three weeks later.
  • Ray Rice, Abused his wife
  • Adrian Peterson, Abused his son.
  • Antonio Pierce, Retired at the end of the year.
  • Calvin Johnson, Added the Jr. at the end a few months after I bought his jersey
  • Ryan Callahan, Traded a week after I got his jersey.

So because of all of that I now have two things, I have a closet full of jerseys I never wear and a fear of buying a jersey of my favorite player because they all either get traded, released, retire or do something awful that I can no longer wear their jersey.

I have always wanted a Landon Collins jersey from the second they drafted him, but I can’t get it because I feel like if I get his jersey, he’ll leave. This new deal is awesome, and jersey lovers around the country should be ecstatic that they can now purchase jerseys without fear!

Jersey fanatics stand up and check out this sweet deal that Fanatics is offering and don’t be afraid to buy that jersey now that you’re insured!

Bill Belichick Net Worth 2018: How Much Is New England Patriot Coach Worth?

$

0

With professional sports, the players get all the attention and glory, but we shouldn’t overlook the men behind the men: coaches are an integral part of the game, too! It helps that many of them started as players, too! Bill Belichick is one such figure, having coached for teams like the Cleveland Browns, the New York Giants and the New England Patriots, not to mention having started on the field himself!

Bill Belichick Net Worth: $35 Million

Belichick’s net worth is expected to be around $35 million. The one caveat to this is the fact that the  Patriots like to keep the details of Belichick’s contract under wraps.

The Early Years

Instagram Photo

Born in Nashville, Tennessee, and raised in Annapolis, Maryland, Belichick has coaching in his blood, as his father, Steven Belichick, served as an assistant football coach at the United States Naval Academy. While attending Annapolis High School, Belichick played football himself, as well as lacrosse. After enrolling at Phillips Academy, he moved on to Wesleyan University, where he continued with football.

1975-1990

Upon graduation, however, he had other ideas than playing the game himself; he wanted to work on the other side of the field. In 1975, Belichick took a job as an assistant to Baltimore Colts head coach, Ted Marchibroda, worth $25 a peek. Working his way up the latter, by 1979, he obtained a 12-year job with the New York Giants with head coach Ray Perkins as a defensive assistant and special teams coach.

1991-1995

Instagram Photo

Starting in 1991, Belichick became the head coach of the Cleveland Browns, a position he kept for four years. In 1995, the team’s owner, Art Modell, announced he would move the franchise to Baltimore; while it was originally believed that Belichick would coach the Baltimore team, he was officially fired a week after the original announcement.

1996-Present

After a brief stint as assistant head coach and defensive backs coach for the New England Patriots in 1996, Belichick had two different shifts with the New York Jets towards the end of the decade. By 2000, he returned to the New England Patriots, effectively becoming the general manager as well. By 2007, his contract with the team had been extended, although the exact content of the deal is not known to the public. Proving beneficial to the team, the Patriots only missed the playoffs in 2000 and on tiebreakers in 2002 and 2008 under Belichick’s direction.

In 2007, however, Belichick became the subject of controversy after NFL security caught a Patriots video assistant taping the New York Jets against NFL regulation, causing Belichick to be fined $500,000, said to be the largest fine imposed on a coach in the league’s history, with the Patriots additionally being fined $250,000. Despite the incident, Belichick was awarded the 2007 NFL Coach of the Year Award by the Associated Press.

Carson Wentz is a quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, get his start on the field playing for North Dakota State University. Proving that someone is never too young to make it in the game, Wentz proved his worth at a young age. Let’s take a look at his career, starting with his net worth!

Carson Wentz Net Worth: $15 Million

Wentz’s net worth is around $15 million. His contract with the Eagles is worth around $26.67 million, guaranteed with a $17.6 signing bonus. He makes an average annual salary of $6.67 million.

The Early Years

Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, Wentz grew up in North Dakota. While attending Century High School, he played quarterback and defensive back for the school’s football team, also playing basketball and baseball.

2011-2015

In 2011, while attending North Dakota State, Wentz redshirted his first season with the Bison. By 2014, Wentz rose to the position of starting quarterback during his junior year. As a fifth-year senior in 2015, he suffered an incident leading to a broken wrist, costing him around eight weeks of playing time. Regardless, he managed to play in the national championship in the following December. Finishing his college career, he won the title of NCAA Division I-AA Championship Game Most Outstanding Player and earning recognition as Academic All-American of the Year for two years in a row.

2016-Present

Starting his professional career, Wentz was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in April 2016, serving as the second overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. This made him the first quarterback selected by the team in the first round of an NFL Draft since 1999 when Donovan McNabb was picked. Finishing up his rookie year, Wentz started his 2017 season, in a game against the Washington Redskins. His start at the season was successful enough that he was a potential NFL MVP by his first five games. During Week 14, a game-related injury hurt Wentz’s knee, which required surgical treatment the following December. Towards the end of the year, he was selected to his first Pro Bowl. 2017 also marked the çreation of Wentz’s nonprofit, the “AO1 Foundation,” standing for “audience of one.”

Week 12, College Basketball Picks 2018: Spread & Predictions

Every week that passes, college basketball almost always brings about a new set of National title contenders that are hungry to prove their worth and legitimacy. For a time, the Big 12 appeared to be a conference that was rife with elite programs that were able to ignore their noticeable deficiencies and win consistently. However, the likes of Oklahoma, Texas Tech and even Kansas at times have proved susceptible to being upset regardless of the opponent or where the game takes place. This week, the ACC may go through a similar form of chaos as the likes of Duke, North Carolina, and Virginia will face at least one if not multiple tests against lesser known conference opponents that are looking to shame them while strengthening their resumes for the postseason. Will the Blue Bloods of the ACC continue to win or will they succumb to their weaknesses against either inferior or reputable opposition? Let’s find out.

North Carolina Tar Heels (10) vs. Virginia Tech Hokies

Although the Tar Heels regular season seemed to be free-falling downward when they lost to Florida State and Virginia two weeks ago, they have since regrouped and have looked fairly versatile on both offense and defense. Holding three out of their last four opponents to under 70 total points, the Tar Heels have been able to score at a much less frenetic pace, which has allowed both Luke Maye (17.8 PPG, 10.5 RPG) and Cameron Johnson (11.7 PPG, 5.1 RPG) to dominate as the Tar Heels top scoring and rebounding threats. While the Hokies have the high-scoring offense needed to keep up with the gifted Tar Heels (85.6 PPG), their defense has been below average throughout the season (73 PAPG). Even though all five of the Hokies starters are currently averaging double-digit points per game, their propensity for turning over the basketball combined with their lack of a decent defense will come back to haunt them in what should be a thrilling shootout.

Final Score: Tar Heels 86 Hokies 79 Spread: UNC -3.5

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Ohio State Buckeyes (13)

From one game to the next, it’s tremendously difficult to predict which Cornhuskers team is going to show up. On the one hand, you have the stout defensive program that is tenacious when it comes to forcing turnovers (seven SPG) and blocking shots consistently (six BPG). On the other hand, you have the anemic offensive team that struggles mightily to hit more than 40% of their shots from the field (43 FG%, 73.4 PPG). Conversely, the red-hot Buckeyes have been skyrocketing upwards as both a cerebral defensive program (have held six of their last seven opponents to under 70 points per game) and confident shooting team that can take high-percentage shots with a variety of underrated athletes (48.9 FG%). Although the Cornhuskers streaky defense could emerge and truly test the Buckeyes newly improved offense, Ohio State has been the more consistent team this year and will do enough with their impressive defense to win at home.

Final Score: Cornhuskers 64 Buckeyes 69 Spread: Ohio State -11.0

West Virginia Mountaineers (7) vs. TCU Horned Frogs

In college basketball, it’s incredibly rare to witness a program that never falters throughout the regular season, even if they have the elite personnel and coaching to win consistently. After winning 15-games in a row, the once unstoppable Mountaineers have lost two of their last three games with their inconsistent offense being the culprit in those affairs. Nevertheless, the Mountaineers defense has been as dominant as ever and has kept them competitive in both of their losses that they have sustained this season. Unlike the Mountaineers, the issues that the Horned Frogs are currently experiencing appear to be more than just a mid-season lapse that will eventually balance itself out. A program that has struggled defensively all season long (77.6 PAPG), the Horned Frogs are now going through a cold spell offensively, a facet that was vital to early success in the highly competitive Big 12. Losing four of their last six games, TCU has looked lost on both sides of the court and will most likely be knocked down with another haymaker from a Mountaineers team that is more talented and capable of winning a basketball game in a multitude of ways.

Final Score: Mountaineers 83 Horned Frogs 69 Spread: West Virginia -3.0

Clemson Tigers (18) vs. Virginia Cavaliers (2)

Built from the ground up to suppress opposing offenses with a relentless zeal, the Tigers have lived and died by attempting valiantly to hold their respective opponents to under 70 points per game. Luckily for the tenacious Tigers, this old-school approach has been highly successful as the ranked Tigers three losses this season have all come by single digits, suggesting that this program just needs a slight boast offensively to be truly elite in the ACC. Similarly, the Cavaliers have unabashedly relied heavily on their oppressive defense to stimulate their physical albeit inconsistent offense to score in transition while utilizing their size to score within the painted area. Although this contest may not feature the wild shootouts that have become a staple of this sport, it should be an impressive display of two teams that play well-disciplined basketball despite not having the top tier recruits of other programs. In the end, the size and swiftness of the Cavaliers in transition will be just enough to allow Virginia to secure an extremely close victory at home.

Final Score: Tigers 60 Cavaliers 64 Spread:

Kansas Jayhawks (5) vs. Oklahoma Sooners (12)

As Kansas usually does, they have found a way to overcome their weaknesses by honing their strengths over time, which in this case is their highly productive offense (84.2 PPG). With all of five of their starters scoring double-digit points per game, the Jayhawks have an impressive combination of veteran leadership and confident Freshmen that can score from anywhere on the court (50.2 FG%, 41.1 3P%). Of course, the recent struggles for the Sooners, particularly when it comes to turning over the ball, have been devastating to witness. With that being said, it’s hard to be surprised that a team that allows 81.6 PAPG is currently losing to the likes of Kansas State and Oklahoma State. However, while the Sooners appear to be in free-fall mode, they clearly have the skilled players to rebound the ball consistently (41 RPG) and a superstar shooter that is bound to overcome his inconsistent shooting ways sooner rather than later. With the parity that currently exists in the Big 12, I expect the Sooners to spoil the lofty ambitions of the Jayhawks to take firm control of the top spot in the conference standings.

Final Score: Jayhawks 87 Sooners 92 Spread:

Marquette Golden Eagles vs. Xavier Musketeers (8)

Predominately, the Big East is loaded with high-octane offensive programs that are average to poor when it comes to playing defense. Although the Golden Eagles are currently allowing 75.7 points per game, they have been fortunate to possess one of the better perimeter shooting teams in college basketball (40.6 3P%). More importantly, the Golden Eagles are unselfish when locating the open man that has the best chance of hitting a deep shot, which has allowed them to be fairly efficient with their high-risk offense (16.3 APG). Comparatively, the Musketeers also have severe issues when holding off trigger-happy teams (73 PAPG), but have been able to win games that appear to be out of reach thanks to the likes of Trevon Bluiett (19.1 PPG, 42.5 3P%) and J.P. Macura (47.6 FG%). Considering both teams have the accurate shooters to trade shots back and forth, this should be a fairly high-scoring affair with both teams scoring in bunches throughout. However, the Musketeers have better athletes and enough elite shooters to eventually outshoot the Golden Eagles down the stretch.

Final Score: Golden Eagles 81 Musketeers 88 Spread:

Michigan Wolverines (25) vs. Purdue Boilermakers (3)

While Michigan has certainly had better and more well-rounded programs in the past, this years team is nowhere near a pushover. Allowing just 62.5 points per game, the Wolverines have gone away from a relentless, perimeter shooting offense and instead have opted to be opportunistic and strategically aggressive when it comes to taking the ball away from the opposition (seven SPG). However, for how gritty and physical the Wolverines have been defensively, the Boilermakers have matched Michigans intensity in that regard (62.2 PAPG) all the while being a highly efficient offensive team (84.8 PPG) that can gash opposing defenses from within the arch and outside of the perimeter (50.3 FG%, 43.7 3P%). Although this is a revenge game and Wolverines lost by just one point in their last meeting, the Boilermaker’s will be able to thrive off of the energy of their home crowd while executing their dynamic game plan that has been practically unstoppable this season.

Final Score: Wolverines 72 Boilermakers 80 Spread:

Virginia Cavaliers (2) vs. Duke Blue Devils (4)

Despite struggling to both shoot and rebound the basketball (69.6 PPG, 32.9 RPG), the Cavaliers have overcome their unimpressive statistics with exceptional coaching and an elite defense that rarely falters (52.4 PAPG). When the Cavaliers do decide to score consistently, it’s almost always because their defense is able to garner a quick steal (seven SPG) and give the ball off to the open man in transition who can usually reach the basket consistently. Although the Blue Devils have only started to find their footing defensively, their offense has been nothing short of exceptional as they have utilized Marvin Bagley III and Wendell Carter to continuously snag rebounds while Grayson Allen and Gary Trent Jr. can be relied upon in both attacking the basket and hitting outside shots when the situation calls for it. Although the Cavaliers defense will force the Blue Devils to be creative when it comes to scoring, Duke has the elite personnel and the coaching to eventually find a way to win what should be a gritty and highly contentious affair.

Final Score: Cavaliers 74 Blue Devils 81 Spread:

Texas A&M Aggies vs. Kansas Jayhawks (5)

Not too long ago, the sizeable and physical Aggies were a scary good team that relentlessly rebounded the basketball while converting their additional possessions into impressive scores at the other end of the court. However, the Aggies physically imposing luster has worn off considerably as they lost five games in a row at one point and have only recently become competitive again by winning their last two games against Ole Miss and Missouri. Although the elite Jayhawks will be tempted to look past the downtrodden Aggies, they need to be much more vigilant and well-composed lest they face another near loss situation like they did against Baylor recently. While this contest will be much closer than most think, the Jayhawks will find a way to get the most out of their experienced and youthful superstars to win a nail-biter at home.

Final Score: Aggies 76 Jayhawks 78 Spread:

Kentucky Wildcats vs. West Virginia Mountaineers (7)

While head coach John Calipari has had his fair share of young teams that have struggled from time to time, never has he had a team this inexperienced with this many issues. Unranked for the first time since 2014, the Wildcats have flashed moments of being a dynamically talented team, but have lacked the killer instinct and discipline to win contests that are within their grasp. Conversely, the Mountaineers are both disciplined and comfortable with their defensive heavy style of basketball. Even when it does not work, the Mountaineers have the wherewithal and experience to fix their errors to become a better program in the long run. Although the Wildcats have the potential to be great and could pull off a tremendous upset victory in this contest, their recent performances have not been encouraging from a competitive perspective and will most likely prevent them from winning against what is simply a better team.

Final Score: Wildcats 72 Mountaineers 82 Spread:

Top 25 College Basketball Rankings 2018: Week 12 AP Poll

Aside from the top three teams, no one was safe from being upset last week. While upsets do happen to the best programs in college basketball from time to time, it is almost unheard of when three of the top ten teams in the sport lose twice in one week! Luckily for Oklahoma and Texas Tech, both programs dropped just eight and six spots respectively, which is remarkable considering both teams lost to unranked opponents. However, the program that was demoted the most was the Wichita State Shockers. Dropping from 7th to 17th in the AP Poll, the Shockers were put on notice after losing to both SMU and Houston in the same week. While Wichita State has the dynamic offense to get back on track and overcome this disturbing lapse, they will need to be much more physical defensively if they hope to reclaim the top spot in the American Conference standings.

Top 25 College Basketball Rankings 2018: Week 12

While chaos at the top is disastrous for programs that believe themselves to be elite, it also allows under-the-radar teams to finally get some type of recognition for their consistent performances. With four new teams in the top-25, the competitive landscape of college basketball looks much different than it did just a week ago. Most notably, the St. Mary’s Gaels went from being unranked to 16th in the country after they won a crucial contest against their competitive conference rival in Gonzaga. Although it may be sometime before the Gaels are mentioned in a favorable way as their conference is fairly weak, they could very well force their way into the top ten if they can beat Gonzaga again in just two weeks.

Given how prolific and ruthless Villanova’s offense has been this season, it’s not very surprising that the Wildcats are the top-ranked team in the country for the third week in a row. Although their inconsistent defense could pose a problem at some point for them during the season (68.4 PAPG), their fast-paced and unselfish as done more than enough for them to overcome their defensive issues (87.9 PPG, 17.6 APG). Can the Wildcats continue to baffle opposing defenses with their sharpshooting offense en route to being the top-ranked team in the country for the fourth week in a row?
