College Football 2018: Top 5 Best Quarterbacks In The SEC

$

0

After a thrilling National Championship Game on Monday night, where stop me if you’ve heard this before, but Alabama won another title by defeating Georgia in overtime by the score of 26-23. It was a great way to end the college football season, but unfortunately, that means that we don’t get to watch college football for another 200+ days, and boy does that suck. With that being said, it doesn’t mean that we don’t get a chance to take a look at the upcoming 2018 season.

Now I will admit that I am a HUGE SEC guy, I went to an SEC school, and it’s the conference that I follow most closely. Not that I don’t watch teams in other conferences, because I love college football and can’t get enough of it, but for the sake of writing about every conference, I’m just going to focus on the SEC, and in particular the quarterback position.

I’m going to guess that there are going to be a lot of discrepancies with my list, because SEC fans live and die with their teams and will defend them to the death, which is why they’re the best fans and why the SEC is the best conference (suck one Big Ten), so if I upset you, well then I don’t know what to tell you. Now with making this list, I took into account their record as a starter, and numbers, like most people, do when they rank quarterbacks.

5. Jake Bentley – Sophomore, South Carolina

“That’s my quarterback (Terrell Owens voice)!” Sure this may be a homer pick because I went to South Carolina, and unfortunately, live and die by Gamecock football, but as an SEC fan, I do think Bentley belongs on the list. Since taking over as the starter last year when the Gamecocks were coming off of a 3-win season, and struggling at 2-4, Bentley went 4-3 the rest of the season and threw for 9 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. With expectations raised this year, Bentley definitely has his struggles down the stretch run, but he led South Carolina to a 9-4 record, including a big win in the Outback Bowl over Michigan, which was the only loss for the Big Ten during bowl season (LOL), and threw for 18 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and also had 6 touchdowns on the ground. So for those keeping score at home, Bentley is 13-7 as a starter, with 27 touchdowns, 16 interceptions, and 6 rushing touchdowns. As much as I love Bentley and the emotion and passion he plays with every Saturday, he needs to work on cutting down on the turnovers, and I don’t want, I NEED him to beat both Georgia and Clemson. Yes, the Outback Bowl victory was huge for the South Carolina program, but to take the next step, he needs to win the big games during the regular season. The future looks very bright for my Gamecocks.

4. Nick Fitzgerald – Senior, Mississippi State

The last time we saw Fitzgerald play, he suffered an absolutely gruesome ankle injury in the Egg Bowl against Ole Miss (sneaky great rivalry game) in the last regular season game of the season. To make matters worse, his head coach Dan Mullen left him to go to be the coach at Florida. With a lot of things not going in his favor, I am very interested to see how Fitzgerald does next year, but I think he’ll be just fine. His new coach, former Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorehead and him should get along just fine because he was able to work wonders with Trace McSorley. As far as his skill set as a quarterback goes, I absolutely love watching Fitzgerald play. His numbers dropped a little bit from his sophomore to his junior season when it came to throwing the ball (21 touchdowns and 10 interceptions to 15 touchdowns and 11 interceptions), but he is absolutely lethal when it comes to running the ball. In 32 career games, Fitzgerald has rushed for 2,486 yards and 33 touchdowns. He is your ideal dual-threat quarterback, with great size at 6’5″ 230 lbs. He could have his early struggles coming back from such a severe injury, but once he gets his groove back, I think he should be in for a big year.

3. Whoever Alabama is Starting at Quarterback

Instagram Photo

I may be in the minority on this, but I am a Jalen Hurts fan. I think he’s a tough kid, who’s a great leader, and a tremendous athlete. He’s 27-2 as a starter and has led the Crimson Tide to two straight national championship appearances since he’s been the starter, and was the first freshman since Hershel Walker to win SEC Offensive Player of the Year. HOWEVER, Hurts struggled in his last few games of the season and was pulled in the second half of the National Championship game, for the Flyin’ Hawaiian himself, Tua Tagovailoa, who sparked the comeback for the Tide, where they eventually won the title. A lot of Alabama fans were calling for Tua to start during the regular because he is a better thrower than Hurts, but Hurts kept leading the Tide to wins. You have to think that Tua is going to be the starter going into next season, and Hurts may switch positions or transfer, but I think there’s still a chance that he sticks around and tries to play quarterback. Both kids are very talented so it will be interesting to see which direction Nick Saban goes next year.

2. Jarrett Stidham – Junior, Auburn

The Baylor transfer made a huge splash in his first season as the Auburn starter, as he led the Tigers to the SEC West title, and defeated both Georgia and Auburn during the regular season, while putting up good numbers with 3,158 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions, to go along with 4 rushing touchdowns. Auburn stumbled in their last two games, losing the SEC Championship game to Georgia, and then the Peach Bowl to fake national champs UCF, but Stidham has the Tigers in the right direction. Auburn’s offense hasn’t been this dynamic since Nick Marshall was starting for them, and he is far superior a thrower of the football than Marshall ever could have dreamed of being. Although they will have a tough schedule next year with playing in the SEC West, Stidham has Auburn fans dreaming big, like National Championship big so it will be interesting to see how he comes back for an encore, as he recently just passed up on a chance to enter the NFL Draft.

1. Jake Fromm – Sophomore, Georgia

Instagram Photo

Having a Georgia player number one in anything just proves how objective I am because I hate the Bulldogs with every ounce of my being, sorry had to pat myself on the back there. Let me say this about Fromm, this kid kind of has the world by the balls right now. I had my doubts about him going up against Alabama in the title game, but that kid played his ass off against them and was almost the first true freshman starting quarterback to ever lead his team to a National Championship. Since he took over for quarterback Jacob Eason who was injured in the first game of the season, Fromm played great all season by throwing for 2,615 yards with 24 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. His first start of the year was at Notre Dame, where he led the Bulldogs to a huge victory, and from there he never really looked back and was able to fend off Eason from getting his job back and even forced Eason to transfer back to Washington. Now this good is a prisoner of the moment pick for me, but Fromm is a gamer, as he proved in the thrilling Rose Bowl game against Oklahoma, and seems to have that “it factor”. It sucks for me as a Gamecock fan, because I think the Bulldogs are about to go on a run over the next decade of being a championship contender, and I would be shocked if Fromm didn’t lead the Dawgs to a title over the next few years.

Hilary Dattilo, an Ohio high school teacher, and volleyball coach, has been charged with sexual misconduct with a female student, according to authorities.

Dattilo pled not guilty to the charges, which included sexual battery and contributing to the unruliness or delinquency of a child; a judge has now set her bond at $5,000 with the ability to post 10%.

She is scheduled to appear in court on February 8, with Judge Noah Powers.

Who Is Hilary Dattilo?

Dattilo was 30 years old at the time of her arrest and is a resident of Monroe, Ohio. She was previously a teacher and volleyball coach at Hamilton High School in Ohio, having started working at the school in late August. According to NBC 4, she served as both an assistant coach for the school’s varsity volleyball team and the head coach for the junior varsity team.

Since the charges, the Hamilton City School District has said that Dattilo was placed on administrative leave; Joni Copas, the school director of communications, gave the following statement to the Hamilton Journal News:

“As a result of an ongoing investigation conducted collaboratively with the Hamilton City Police Department, the Hamilton City School District has placed a teacher at Hamilton High School on administrative leave pending termination proceedings.”

Allegedly, Dattilo engaged in sexual encounters with the female student in off-campus encounters between Nov. 1 and Nov. 22, leading to the sexual battery charge, and between Oct. 1 and Dec. 18, leading to the delinquency charge.

Police said that they began investigating after the girl’s parents reported the incident to a staff member at the school. According to WLWT, Hamilton police Sgt. Brian Robinson gave the following statement:

“A mother of a student at Hamilton High School was concerned about a possible inappropriate relationship that a staff member was having with her daughter, so she notified the school administrators at Hamilton High School.”

Following Dattilo’s arraignment, Hamilton City Schools also released the following statement:

“Parents entrust their children to us everyday, which is something we take very seriously. The safety of children is always our first priority.

As a result of an ongoing investigation conducted collaboratively with the Hamilton City Police Department, the Hamilton City School District has placed a teacher at Hamilton High School on administrative leave pending termination proceedings. Simply put, we will not tolerate behavior that places our children in jeopardy.

Because this is a criminal case, we will respectfully defer questions to the police and prosecuting attorney’s office.”

In time, Dattilo turned herself into police custody; she later pled not guilty during her arraignment. Both her mother and husband were present at the arraignment.

What does Ohio law state?

According to the Ohio Legislative Service Commission, the charge of corruption of a minor can be applied to anyone over the age of 18 who has sexual relations with someone 13 to 16 years of age. Whether that charge is a felony or a misdemeanor depends on the age difference between the two partners.

The arrest is one of many over the past few years of teachers for having sexual relationships with their students. Other recent cases include Alyssia Marie Reddy, who was arrested in Maryland for crimes committed in New Jersey with a 16-year-old student,  Samantha Fitzpatrick, who had been charged with child enticement and sexual assault with a 17-year-old and Ann Kuroki, who was a basketball coach that had been arrested for having a relationship with a male student.

Who is this guy who plays for the Oklahoma Sooners that has NBA superstars watching his every move? it’s not either than Trae Young. Trae Young has been having one of the most electric freshman seasons in recent memory between his deep 3 point range and his stellar passing abilities. Steph Curry even said “That guy is unbelievable”, pretty high praise from a 2 time MVP. Before the season started no one really knew who Young was and now he’s all anyone is talking about.

Trae Young Details

Age: 19, (born: September 19, 1998)
Height: 6 feet 2 inches
Weight: 180 lb.
Birthplace: Lubbock, Texas
High school: Norman North (Norman, Oklahoma)
Team: Oklahoma Sooners

High School

Trae Young was born in Lubbock, Texas but moved to Norman, Oklahoma shortly after being born to parents Rayford and Candice Young, Rayford was a colligate basketball player himself. Rayford Young played at Texas Tech and himself a decent college career.

Trae Young was a superstar at Norman North High School being named Gatorade Player of the Year in Oklahoma TWICE! in 2016 and 2017. He had one of the top senior years in the entire country, He averaged 42.6 points, 4.1 assists, and 5.8 rebounds, all while shooting 48.9 percent from the field. HOLY MOLY the kid averaged over 42 points a game!! not just scored but averaged!

Trae was also named a McDonalds All American and was starting point guard for the West team. Coming out of high school Trae was the ranked the 15th overall prospect and the #2 point guard in the country according to ESPN. The accolades don’t stop there, he was named a first-team All-American by MaxPreps and a second-team All-American by USA Today. He also took first place at the McDonald’s All-American 3-Point Contest and finished as the runner-up at the American Family Insurance High School 3-Point Contest at the Final Four

Oh yeah did I mention he won the gold at the 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Championship as part of the United States U18 National Team.

College

When Trae Young stepped foot on the Oklahoma campus he had big dreams and has outperformed anything the coaches thought were possible. This guy just came out from the very first game and has put on an absolute clinic. He is looking to match the legacy’s of former Sooners like Blake Griffen and Buddy Hield, Both of those are Oklahoma Basketball legends. The only difference is that both of those guys spent multiple years at college, Trae, on the other hand, looks like a one-and-done. Every game matters in terms of securing immortality and I’d say Trae is doing a pretty damn good job. As of January 10th, his stats per game are:

Points: 29.2
Assists: 10.1
Rebounds: 3.8
Shooting %: .493
Point shooting %: .389
Steals: 2.0

The Zeta Beta Tau International Fraternity announced on Tuesday, January 9 that they will be revoking the University of Michigan charter after an investigation uncovered that hazing incidents had taken place.

According to reports, the ZBT national chapter conducted an investigation with the Office of Greek Life and Division for Student Life for several months. The fraternity’s Supreme Council voted to revoke the charter after the investigation found that determined members were violating a number of fraternity policies, including those which prohibit hazing.

Zeta Beta Tau’s national organization released a statement, saying “through the course of this investigation it became clear that members were violating various Fraternity policies, including those which prohibit hazing.”

via M Live:

This is the second time Zeta Beta Tau’s UM chapter has been shut down. The fraternity had been in the process of recolonizing, or reestablishing itself on the UM campus , University Spokesman Rick Fitzgerald said, after it had previously been shut down in 2012. Fitzgerald said that while this was the fraternity’s decision, UM’s Dean of Students Office is offering assistance to affected students. Zeta Beta Tau ended pledging in 1989 as a safeguard against hazing.

The actions of the brothers of the Colony at the University of Michigan violated our policies and acted in ways antithetical to our mission and values,” ZBT’s national release said. “Health and safety is a top priority of Zeta Beta Tau, and we are committed to facilitating a positive fraternity experience.”

The decision to revoke the charter comes after UM’s Interfraternity Council announced earlier this month that it would begin to phasing in restoration of social privileges following an eight-week self-imposed suspension of all social and new member activities.

A letter from the IFC noted that after extensive review to identify policies and practices needing improvement within the community, fraternities can begin a phased process in which chapters are notified of specific action plans they will need to complete.

The revocation of ZBT’s charter comes just months after the university’s the IFC voted to suspend all social and new member activity at University of Michigan fraternities. The suspension banned social, date parties, hazing activities with new pledges and general brotherhood meetings involving alcohol.

Harvard Sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma Goes Gender Neutral

On Monday, January 8, 2018, the Harvard chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma announced that it had disbanded from its national organization and would reform as a gender-neutral club.

Harvard announced a new set of social group penalties in May 2016, stating that any undergraduate student that is a member of unrecognized single-gender social organizations will be banned from holding athletic team captaincies and leadership positions in all recognized student groups. They are also ineligible for certain college endorsements, according to The Harvard Crimson.

Kappa Kappa Gamma is the first sorority to become gender-neutral since these now policies were put in place. The sorority has been renamed as “Fleur-de-Lis,” which will be open to both men and women regardless of the group being intended for “female-identifying individuals.”

  • What is Fleur-de-Lis? Fleur-de-Lis refers to a lily flower that is often used as a decorative design. It is generally considered to be religious, political, symbolic and dynastic. It is used by many sororities and fraternities around the world.

The decision made by Kappa Kappa Gamma came shortly after their national chapter announced it was “profoundly disappointed” in Harvard’s decision to make their social group policy official, according to The Crimson.

The president of the Fleur-de-Lis, Tiana Menon, mentioned the influence of Harvard’s policy that banned members of single-gender groups from holding positions in campus leadership on the decision to go gender neutral.

Menon game the following statement to The Daily Caller:

“The formation of The Fleur is the culmination of numerous discussions spanning the last two or so years within Harvard’s Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma and with the administration,” said Tiana Menon, president of the Fleur-de-Lis. “[Administrators] have helped shape the path we as a group have chosen to pursue.”

Although Fleur-de-Lis is the first sorority at Harvard to go gender-neutral, they weren’t the ones that started the movement.

The decision of Fleur-de-Lis followed the decision of fraternities Kappa Sigma and Alpha Epsilon Phi to open their doors to all students no matter their gender.

Members of the Harvard chapter of Kappa Sigma wrote the following statement for The Harvard Crimson, stating that the change wasn’t directly related to the single-gender club policy:

“Irrespective of the proposed sanctions and unilateral decision-making of the university, we do not believe that gender should preclude students from joining an organization that simply values character, camaraderie, and diverse social experiences,” the group wrote.

According to The Crimson, the dean of Harvard, Rakesh Khurana, thinks that the changes made by greek life at Harvard are just what this generation needs to see.

According to the FAQ page of the Fleur’s new website, being a gender-neutral club means that no student would ever be denied membership based on gender. Their mission is to create a safe, empowering space for students on campus.

Over the past three years, The Oak Club, the Sabliere Society, the Seneca, and the Spee Club all went gender neutral also.

Khurana stated that the college would be releasing an official plan outlining how they would be enforcing the new policies sometime in January or February, according to The Crimson.

Although some sororities chose to flat out defy the social group policy put in place by Harvard, Kappa Kappa Gamma’s decision to break away from their strict gender roles is a decision that is being highly praised by many people both inside and outside of the Harvard community.

Christa Steele-Knudslien, 42, is the first transgender person in the United States to be murdered in 2018. Police are naming her husband Marc Steele as the prime suspect in the case. The deceased was a well-known transgender rights activist, according to The Huffington Post.

The murder victim is sometimes known as Christa Leigh Steele-Knudslien. She was memorialized for her work in transgender activism. The Huffington Post reports that “In addition to founding the Miss Trans America pageant, she also helped launch the Miss Trans New England pageant and was one of the organizers of the first New England Trans Pride march in 2008.”

What Happened?

Christa’s body was found on Friday, January 5, in the couple’s Veazie Street North Adams, Massachusetts home. According to MassLive, Mark Steele-Knudslien, 47, entered a local police department and confessed to the murder of his wife.

“[He] stated he killed Christa by striking her numerous times with a hammer and then finally killed her by stabbing her in the back with a large knife,” according to MassLive who quoted the police report. “Steele-Knudslien later wrapped Christa’s body in a tarp and moved her to the basement which is where the body could be found.”

According to a report from The New York Daily News, Mark Steele-Knudslien “walked into the police department at 9:09 P.M. on Friday and said he had done ‘something very bad.’”

The husband told law enforcement officials the reason why he murdered his wife. According to the husband’s confession reported by MassLive, he “snapped” after feeling “belittled.” He told police that he “began striking Christa in the head with a hammer in their living room. He then stabbed her in the back, took a shower and went to the liquor store to buy alcohol…After he returned, he wrapped Christa’s body and the murder weapons in bedding, plastic and a tarp and dragged them to the basement.”

According to Massachusetts authorities, “The preliminary results of an autopsy on a North Adams woman indicate she died of loss of blood due to a stab wound to the torso; a contributing factor was multiple blunt force traumas to the head.”

Authorities have issued a press release on the crime, saying that Mark Steele-Knudslien “has been arrested and charged with one (1) count of MURDER. It is alleged that he killed his wife whose body was found inside their Veazie Street North Adams home Friday evening” (January 5, 2018).

Who is Christa Steele-Knudslien?

Christa was an activist for transgender rights, as well as an advocate of highlighting the beauty of transgender people through pageants. She’s a well-known activist who spoke out about transgender issues to promote their inclusion in mainstream society. According to a report from The New York Post, Christa was “well known in the Massachusetts transgender community for her activism and helped launch the first New England Trans Pride event a decade ago.”

“She and other advocates later started the Miss Trans New England Pageant, which brought together transgender women from across the region.” Christa’s friend, Justin Adkins, told the Post that “Her thing was always that transgender women are beautiful and need a venue for trans women to be seen as beautiful.”

The Anti-Violence Project sent out a message regarding Christa’s death, writing, “Our hearts remain heavy. Though we are grieving, may we find some peace in celebrating the many contributions Christa gave us…she was a passionate advocate and leader in our community, a friend, mentor and founder of Miss Trans New England and Miss Trans America.”

According to Glaad, “Christa Leigh Steele-Knudslien is the 1st known transgender person to be killed this year. Violence against transgender people, especially trans women of color, must receive more national media attention.”

My heart goes out to Jamie Wounded Arrow and all the life’s taken this year and years past.” Christa also sent out posts on Facebook, paying tribute to the victims of the Orlando Pulse Nightclub mass shooting.

GLAAD is asking the news media to put in a greater effort to humanize transgender people and provide more coverage to the deaths of transgendered individuals. The organization wrote, “With violence against transgender people at an all-time high and rising, national media coverage is severely lacking. The media must do a better job of reporting these murders and bringing needed attention to a community under vicious and violent attack. In order for people to be aware of the horrific violence affecting the community, the public needs to know it is happening. The media has a responsibility to communicate about the deadly realities faced by transgender people.”

According to Christa’s Facebook, she went to Spring Valley High School in Minnesota, lived in Berkshire, Massachusetts, and was originally from Rochester, Minnesota.

Joining a Fraternity In 2018: The Pros & Cons of Greek Life

$
0
0

To many people, Greek life in college is an absolute must. Joining a fraternity is a great way to make friends and ensure that you always have something to do on the weekends. The idea of becoming part of a frat attracts so many students because it serves as a way to have an eventful college career, with ready-made friends and even useful connections.

Although Greek life can be a huge step in the right direction for many, there are definitely some costs that come along with it. Becoming a member of a fraternity is definitely time-consuming, especially as a busy college student,  not to mention the actual cost of everything you need just to be a member.

With all of that being said, here’s a list of the many pros and cons of fraternities.

Pros of Fraternities

Pros of Fraternities

Easy friend making: Look, college is hard. A lot of times, students barely even have time to eat a full meal, let alone go out and try new things and make friends. Greek life can be a quick, generally easy, way to make lifelong friends. This can be especially helpful to students who struggle with social anxiety or have difficulty connecting with others. Frats can serve as a great way to bond with others.

Academic support: A study done by the University of Nebraska showed that Greeks are more likely to have a high GPA.

Networking: Fraternities can serve as a great way to connect with other people. Greek alumni organizations are huge and can serve as a great way for students to gain access to mentors in their chosen fields.

Frat members are less hostile towards women: A recent study from Loyola University New Orleans found that non-affiliated students actually ha a more threatening attitude towards women than fraternity members.

Cons of Fraternities

Cons of Fraternities

Time commitment: Fraternities can take a lot of time and commitment. Any student that generally needs more time for studying or has interest in a lot of other activities besides greek life should be cautious of the time that it takes to be a member of a fraternity.

Cost: The national initiation fees for the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity are $265 in addition to the $130 annual fee. Although these numbers might sound manageable at first, after all of the other college expenses are paid off, those fees might seem like a bit too much to handle for a college student.

Partying: Although this is a huge pro to most college students, a study done by the Harvard School of Public Health showed that four out of five members of Greek life are binge drinkers. Statistics like that mean that a frat party can easily get out of hand and you can wake up having no idea where you are.

Hazing: Although colleges have really been cracking down on the hazing recently, it is absolutely still a thing, especially in fraternities. According to the National Study of Student Hazing, 70% of students that are a part of greek life are hazed. Students continue to get hurt and even die from the abuse and negative mental health impact that hazing leaves, regardless of the fact that most fraternities have anti-hazing policies.

The First Trailer For ‘Silicon Valley’ Season 5 Is Here

HBO

Despite the departure of T.J. Miller as Erlich Bachman, there’s no doubt in our minds that Silicon Valley is going to remain one of the funniest comedies on television. While Erlich was certainly a hilarious character, the real fans know that the strongest comedic moments of the show come from Richard Hendrik’s painful awkwardness.

But as we all know, the show must go on, even without Erlich Bachman. In the first teaser trailer for season 5, HBO teases how Richard Hendrik’s and the Pied Piper team will be handling their expansion. And if we’ve come to know anything about Richard over the last four seasons, then we know he’s going to find a way to f*ck this all up sooner rather than later.

Thomas Middleditch, Kumail Nanjiani, Zach Woods, Martin Starr, Josh Brener, Amanda Crew, Matt Ross, Suzanne Cryer, and Jimmy O. Yang will all returning for the fifth season of Silicon Valley, which is set to premiere on Sunday, March 25 at 10 pm ET.

Created by Mike Judge, John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky, Silicon Valley focuses on five (now four) young men who founded a startup company in Silicon Valley.

The NFL Dominated This List Of 2017’s Most-Watched Sporting Events

Hey, remember when everyone was FREAKING out about the NFL’s rating drop early on in the season? Yeah, it turns out that decline in viewership was just a blip on the radar. In the grand scheme of things, it meant less than the lead the Atlanta Falcons got out to in the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.

Speaking of which, 111.32 million people tuned in to watch the Super Bowl last year, making it the most-watched sporting event of 2017 so far, according to Sports Media Watch. The rest of the list? Practically all football. Ratings, shmatings.

The NFL claimed 13 of the top 20 most-watched sporting events this year, including the entirety of the top 10. Concussions? National Anthem protests? Rate of play? Doesn’t matter.

Twitter

Football remains the most popular sport by far in the United States and is clearly America’s true past time (sorry, baseball, you’re old and boring and you smell funny like my grandpa). Outside of the States is a different story, of course.

A whopping 3.2 billion people tuned in to the 2010 World Cup. That’s 46.4 percent of the world. A total of 24.7 million U.S. viewers watched the national team face Portugal in the group stage of the 2014 World Cup, CNN reports. While that is certainly an impressive number (Game of Thrones’ highest ratings top out at around 23 million viewers when all platforms are factored in a full week after initial viewing), there’s no denying that America, as a whole, could care less about soccer.

Long live the NFL!

Joining a Sorority In 2018: The Pros & Cons of Greek Life

Joining a sorority is at the top of a lot of girls’ college bucket lists. Sororities can be a great way to meet friends that you will keep for a lifetime. Sororities can be a great way for girls to bond with people they never thought they would.

For some girls, sororities are a lifelong dream because they’re a legacy. For others, they only rush because their friends are doing it. Whatever the case is, sororities have their pros and cons.

It takes a lot of commitment to be a member of a sorority and it requires a good amount of time management.

Since there really are two sides to every story, here’s a list of some of the pros and cons of going greek and joining a sorority.

Pros of Sororities

Instagram Photo

Friends and mentorships: It’s so easy to feel out of place once you’re in college. You’re away from home for the first time, everything is new and in some cases, students feel alone. Joining a sorority is a great way to make friends and give students a sense of belonging. These girls are going through the same thing and in many cases, it’s easy to relate to one another.  Going to recruitment will give students a chance to meet people who are in the same boat as them.

Career connections: Sororities don’t end when you graduate college. Once students make the decision to join a chapter, they are instantly given access to a huge network of hard working, successful women of all ages and careers across the country. Most sororities have groups on LinkedIn or Facebook that help members connect with each other, and alumni.

Social events: Sororities hold several events every month in order to give members a chance to get together and bond. There’s also formals and crush parties where sororities and fraternities get to know each other. In some cases, chapters pair up with one another and host themes events or parties. This gives sorority members a chance to get to know people outside of their own chapter.

Housing: Most sororities require students to live in their chapter housing, which in some cases is a step up from dorms. This depends on what school you attend.

Cons of Sororities

Instagram Photo

They’re not free: Money is one of the most common reasons that people choose to stay away from Greek life. Sororities are required to tell students what the membership dues are but usually try not to get too deep into it before getting to know you. The first year is usually the toughest since that requires initiation fees on top of everything else.

Chapter matching: Sometimes it can be tough to find a chapter where you see yourself fitting perfectly. Greek life isn’t for everyone and sometimes students visit multiple sororities and don’t like any of them. If you can’t find a sorority that fits you, there are so many other activities and clubs that might work.

Stereotypes: One thing that’s common about sororities across the nation is the stereotypes that come along with them. Typically when people think of sororities, stereotypes come to mind and their not always the most flattering. Although everyone has their own sorority experience and it doesn’t take a certain “type” to be involved, dealing with the stereotypes isn’t easy

Dangerous behaviors: Just like fraternities, sororities are commonly involved in a lot of partying and drinking. Hazing, which commonly takes place during the rush week for new pledges, is notorious for heavy drinking and parties. While this is a huge pro for some, it can also be dangerous and can lead to physical risks for those involved. Not to mention, underage members face the risk of alcohol-related legal charges if things get out of hand.

Conner Neurauter Photos: Full Story & Must-See Details

Connor Neurauter, who was sentenced to three months in jail for sexual interference with a 13-year-old Kamloops girl was given some controversial news when he was told his sentenced will be pushed back to May so he can finish his semester at the University of Calgary.

Connor Neurauter, 21, is a former Canadian Junior Hockey player who pleaded guilty to sexual interference with a 13-year-old girl. The original incident happened over 2 years ago when 19-year-old Connor Neurauter received nude photos of a 13-year-old girl.

The decision to postpone his 90-day jail sentence was done with good intentions I believe but it does send the wrong message towards sexual crimes. In a day in age where we are so focused on stopping sexual crimes, this sentence postponement is moving the ball backward.

The mother of the victim is livid at the way the trial has been handled it has taken 2 years to get a conviction in this case because of multiple delays to the trial. The postponement of the punishment is just the cherry on top. She is quoted saying:

“Sorry, he’s unavailable for court because he has a hockey tournament. He’s unavailable for court because he has exams. He’s unavailable to come to his plea on his own because he’s in the middle of studying’,”

“Let’s postpone his jail sentence until May so he can finish his year of university. Nobody has stood up and said no, during the whole thing—there was not one time where the judge or even the Crown said ‘please, this is not right.’ The victims are the ones who have been paying over and over, every time we went to court.”

The Mother isn’t the only one put off by the delayed sentencing, the University of Calgary is being pressured to expel Neurauter from the school and kick him off campus. Students have also stepped up in trying to get him kicked off, they have 9,800 signatures on a petition to kick him out of school. A ruling from the university is expected shortly on whether to let Connor Neurauter finish the semester.

Connor Neurauter was the goalie for the Candian National Team and a “hot shot” in the college hockey world. Social Media is a terrible way to judge people but based off that there is only one word to describe Connor and that is “tool”. He thought his shit didn’t stink and he could do no wrong, probably an outcome of getting away with everything because he was an athlete. He was accused of choking and making a 13-year-old girl send him nude photos over text and Snapchat. He did plead guilty to these accusations. With his hockey career on the downward slope and the lack of education he’s received, I don’t think we will be hearing the name Connor Neurauter in any other capacity than refereeing to this trial.

Timberlake first performed at Super Bowl XXXV in 2001 while part of *NSYNC, performing with other stars like Steven Tyler and Britney Spears.

He later appeared as one of the stars at Super Bowl XXXVIII show, where he infamously performed alongside Janet Jackson. during the performance of “Rock Your Body,” Timberlake ripped off Jackson’s breastplate, causing a legal battle involving Jackson, the FCC, CBS and Viacom.

Timberlake is following Lady Gaga, who performed at halftime last year, and Coldplay, who performed the year before.

What can we expect at the show?

The exact line-up isn’t confirmed, but Timberlake already has a lot of new music to promote. He’s just released his new single, “Filthy” and has an upcoming third solo-album, Man of the Woods, due just a few days before the halftime show, according to Time. Still, we could probably expect some classics. “Can’t Stop the Feeling?” isn’t going away anytime soon. Maybe he’ll pull a Beyoncé and invite some of his old bandmates to be part of the show?

That said, we know at least one song he won’t be the one performing! P!nk will perform the “Star Spangled Banner” on Feb. 4 at the U.S Bank Stadium.

A woman named Violet Paley accused actor James Franco of sexual misconduct on social media, shortly after he won Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy at the 2018 Golden Globes.

What do we know about the allegations?

Early Monday morning, Paley wrote on Twitter that Franco allegedly “pushed my head down in a car towards [his] exposed penis” and “told my friend to come to [his] hotel when she was 17? After [he] had already been caught doing that to a different 17 year old? [sic]”

The following Tuesday, she later claimed that Franco had contacted her, among other unidentified girls, and offered her an apology over the phone, adding that she refused the request for a phone call and suggested Franco donating his earnings from The Disaster Artist, to Rainn, an ant–sexual assault organization.

According to TimesTalk, in response to the accusations, The New York Times had canceled a scheduled discussion with Franco and his brother, Dave, over his film, The Disaster Artist.

What has Franco said about the allegations?

For his part, Franco denied the accusations during an appearance on The Stephen Colbert Show. That said, he claimed to be happy that people were using social media to speak out against sexual abuse. As he could be heard saying:

“The things that I heard that were on Twitter are not accurate, but I completely support people coming out and being able to have a voice because they didn’t have a voice for so long.”

Before the allegations came to light, Franco was notably wearing a TIME’S UP pin, which advocates against harassment in the workplace, during the Sunday ceremony. As he explained:

“I support change; I support 50-50 in 2020, which just means, you know, people that are underrepresented—women, and people of color, people in the LGBT community—get leadership positions [and] that they fill all positions that they’ve been deprived of… I completely believe in that. That’s why I wore it.”

Who is Violet Paley?

Paley is a professional writer, most recently known for writing a December article for Playboy about Fentanyl and the death of the artist, Lil Peep.

As she wrote in the piece, according to Playboy:

“How do we put a stop to the fentanyl-related deaths? According to The International Journal of Drug Policy, ‘U.S. and authorities will be helpless to prevent unheard of rates of overdose deaths unless the crisis is treated as a public health emergency.’ The declaration of a public health emergency would mean we would treat this epidemic as forcefully and tirelessly as any natural disaster or terrorism threat.”

She is also an actress, according to IMDB, which lists her acting credits as the 2014 Pink Zone and the FX series Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll. She is also a professional director, filming the short, Chipped, and the mini-series, Spent Saints & Other Stories.

Kim Mellibovsky Instagram: Best Photos & Must-See Pictures

Kim Mellibovsky has become a social media star despite being a full-time Israeli soldier. But, taking one quick look at her pictures, it’s easy to see how she’s amassed such an enormous following.

Mellibovsky, believed to be 22, has been wowing the world with her skimpy bikini pictures and her tight-fitting Israeli Defense Forces uniform. She’s the only protection we’d ever want should s— start to go down right here.

Mellibovsky boasts more than 20,000 followers on Instagram and her photos receive hundreds upon hundreds of “likes” and comments. Not going to lie, I also just threw her a follow right this moment. Definitely don’t regret that one.

Military service is a requirement for the majority of Jewish Israelis. Men must serve two years and eight months while women must serve two years. I happen to know a handful of Israelis personally and they are all beautiful people. Seriously, they are all good looking, it’s crazy. Perhaps America really should cut down on the fast food. No joke: Israelis eat olives and corn on their pizza, not sausage/bacon/ham/chicken/pepperoni and other fatty ish. When I told one Israeli friend about our pizza toppings, she was literally astonished and mildly disgusted. Ugh, I feel fat. Where’s the nearest treadmill?

The Israeli military is believed to include more than 120,000 soldiers in mandatory service, though this is just an estimation as the IDF does not provide such figures. All I know is that I really want to move to Israel right now.

Stay safe, IDF badasses.

Some Psycho Bought a Movie-Used R2-D2 Droid For $2.76 Million

I love Star Wars. My commitment runs deep. But even my obsessive fanhood is impressed by the Star Wars love this one wealthy bidder proved at a recent auction. A movie-used R2-D2 droid recently sold for $2.76 million, making it one of the most valuable pieces of Hollywood memorabilia ever sold.

If that sounds like a lot (it does, that’s crazy), consider that experts claim the droid is the “creme de la creme of movie props” and something that you could “put next to a Picasso.” Of course, I always dreamed of stationing an astromech droid next to my Picasso and Monet.

The R2-D2 droid was sold by Profiles in History, an auction house based in Calabasas, California, as part of its Hollywood Auction. The 43-inch tall unit was compiled from parts used throughout the filming of the original Star Wars trilogy from 1977-1983. Man, that little droid has been through a lot.

Prior to the auction, Stephanie Connell, a London-based movie memorabilia consultant, said that the R2 unit was a very unique item to be sold at auction.

“This is not just a normal movie prop. This is instantly recognizable, the creme de la creme of movie props. This is something you could put right next to a Picasso.”

Sadly, the auction house did not release the identity of the mystery buyer, but we do know that it was the most expensive item purchased during the auction. Other items included: Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber from the first two films ($450,000) and Darth Vader’s helmet from the original film ($96,000).

Other sci-fi related items included a 23-ship collection from Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers ($1.8 million).

If only I was rich, I’d have the nerdiest Man Cave of all time.
