The most wonderful time of the year it finally here! Yes, I’m sure by now you already know that Christmas is right around the corner. If you don’t, you’d better get your life together.

Christmas historically is a Christian holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. For over two millennia, people have been celebrating Christmas in their own ways. Many common Christmas traditions include exchanging gifts, decorating a Christmas tree, waiting for Santa and just spending time with family and friends.

The month of December has always been a month for celebration in history. Ancient civilizations in Europe always celebrated light and birth in the dark days of winter. Many people also used the winter solstice as a platform for celebration because the long days of winter were past and it would begin to stay light out later. They would celebrate and begin to look forward to longer days and extended hours of sunlight.

Christmas has been a federal holiday since 1870, after the celebration slipped through the cracks after the American Revolution. Christmas became a time for people to come together and escape the hardships facing the world at the time.

In the 19th century, Americans truly began to embrace Christmas, reinventing it from a carnival holiday to a family-centered day of peace and celebration. Since the early 1800’s was a period of turmoil and class conflict, Americans began to embrace Christmas.

Christmas has always been a time where people come together and celebrate life and love. With that being said, what’s a 2017 Christmas without memes? Everyone can definitely agree that memes bring people together and that’s what Christmas is all about, right?!

In the second weekend of bowl games, there is a game between two above average team. These teams are the Houston Cougars and the Fresno State Bulldogs. Both teams have average expectations this season but managed to exceed those expectations by qualifying for a respectable bowl game. However, both teams will want to add a bowl victory to successfully culminate their seasons.

Houston’s success is due to its running game. This season, Houston had four separate players with over 300 yards rushing and at least three touchdowns. Specifically, Duke Catalon, Mulbah Car, D’Eriq King and Dillon Birden each had over 300 rushing yards this season while averaging at least 4.5 yards per carry. Houston’s passing game has been abysmal this season and one can expect the Cougars to rely heavily on its running game if the Cougars plan on winning this contest.

Fresno State’s success is also primarily due to its running game. Fresno State, this season, had three separate running backs with over 470 yards rushing and at least three touchdowns. Specifically, running backs Ronnie Rivers, Josh Hokit and Jordan Mims played a huge part in Fresno State’s offense and will attempt to make quarterback Marcus McMaryion’s job easier on Sunday. Expect Fresno State to lean heavily on its running backs if the Bulldogs plan on winning this contest.

As for my prediction, I have to side with Houston. Both teams rely heavily on their running backs but I personally think that Houston’s defense is just a little bit better. Houston has, arguably, the best defensive player in Ed Oliver who should make his presence known against the Bulldogs. I think the Cougars win a very low scoring game by a field goal or so.

The Knicks and 76ers will feature two of the best up-and-coming big men in the league squaring off. Porzingis vs Embiid will be a marquee matchup in the eastern conference for years to come. Santa is eve dropping whatever he’s doing to watch this one.

The Knicks have been one of the pleasant surprises of the season thus far, they were projected to be an absolute dumpster fire but here they are sitting at 16-14 and the 8th seed in the east. The Knicks have proven to be one of the top home teams in basketball this year as well, the garden is alive once again! With The Unicorn (Prozingis) back from injury the Knicks will look to get back on the winning track in Philly.

The 76ers are currently sitting 2 games out of a playoff spot at 14-16, they have been playing much better basketball this year than in the past. To their credit, they’re doing all this without #1 pick Marquell Fultz. Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid are proving they have great chemistry by being the catalysts for the whole team. If the 76ers want to pick up a win against the Knicks they’re going to need Ben Simmons to score a little more than he has so far this year.

Cleveland Cavaliers and The Golden State Warriors have met in the last three consecutive NBA Finals. They have one of the most historic rivalries of all time.  Steph, KD, Draymond, and Klay vs LeBron and friends. When these two teams match up its always some of the best basketball you can watch, both teams make the extra pass and understand ball movement.

The Cavs have been on fire lately and have won 9 of their last 10. If the Cavs want to win this game LeBron is going to have to have a 25 point 14 assist and 12 rebound performance. Besides LeBron being the absolute beast he is they are going to need some of that surrounding cast to step up, Especially guys like Kevin Love and JR Smith.

The real difference between the Cavs and Warriors has been the depth of their teams.The Cavs hope the additions of D-Wade and Jeff Green will help even it out. The Warriors put out an Star starting lineup on any given night, but they will be without Steph Curry for this game. I’m curious as to know the Warriors will operate against the Cavs with no Steph. You know what you’re going to get out of KD and Draymond on any given night, but Klay Thompson, Sean Livingston, and rookier Jordan Bell will have to pick up the slack of playing without Steph.

Sugar Bowl 2018: Predictions & Game Details For ‘Alabama vs. Clemson’

Clemson is the defending national champions and are looking to repeat as the #1 seed going into the college football playoff. Clemson is lead by head coach Dabo Sweeny who has collectedly altered the culture of Clemson Football. Dabo who has one of the most terrifying defenses in the counter has done a great job allowing QB Kelly Bryant to get adjusted to the starting QB role after taking over for standout Desean Watson. The mobile Bryant makes as many plays with legs as he does his arm. If Bryant can take care of the football and make smart decisions Clemson will have a very good shot at defeating Saban and the Crimson Tide for the 2^nd straight year.

The Alabama Crimson Tide made were the 4^th and final playoff spot getting in controversially over Ohio St and USC. Saban was a huge advocate for the Tide of course and must’ve been pleased where his constant public appeals to the committee were rewarded. But that reward comes in the form of the #1 seed Clemson Tigers. Alabama will be a huge benefactor of this month-long bye week with key contributors such as…. Now getting a chance to heal up. Jalen Hurts is coming out on a mission this year trying to prove he’s a game-changing playmaker that should be considered amount the countries elite, like Bryant he is also a dual-threat QB. It’s going to be interesting to see how Clemson goes about stopping Hurts from hurting them. Minka Fitzpatrick will do everything in his power to slow down Bryant and the rest of the Tigers. Minka took home almost every award he could the other day including Top Defensive back, he’s going to have to have a huge impact on this one.

Traditionally, Christmas Day has never been particularly notable for viewing and enjoying a full slate of college hoops. Nevertheless, the tireless members of the AP Poll committee diligently released their consensus rankings for fanatically college basketball fans to ponder over. With North Carolina, Miami and Kentucky all succumbing to lesser opponents last week, there was some shakeup in the top-10. Although this perceived chaos was actually quite easy to rearrange rankings wise, it was simply a matter of deciding where to move the next teams in line. This week, Texas A&M moved up three spots to claim a coveted spot in the top five. Between their size and defensive capabilities, the Aggies have been able to utilize their sheer physicality to overwhelm the opposition.

Top 25 College Basketball Rankings 2017: Week 8

In terms of programs that fell down the rankings, none experienced a precipitous drop quite like that of the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Falling from 12th to 20th, the offensively efficient yet defensively inconsistent Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker on the road to a competitively gritty albeit unranked opponent in San Diego State. Despite the loss, the Bulldogs are still worthy of being a top-25 team as they are one the most well-coached and unselfish programs in the country. However, the Zags need to establish a much more well-balanced presence if they hope to regain footing in the rankings as a national powerhouse program.

Despite being one of the few undefeated programs in the country, the Horned Frogs have yet to crack into the top-10. To be fair, their strength of schedule has not exactly been impressive as their only victory over a ranked opponent was against the Nevada Wolfpack who were ranked 22nd at the time (are currently unranked as of this week). However, if TCU can win their next three games against ranked Big 12 opponents (Oklahoma, Baylor, Kansas), they will quickly skyrocket up the rankings to become one of the many successful surprises in college basketball this season.

2017 brought Gamers around the world an absolutely wild and incredible year full of titles that either subverted our expectations, crossed new boundaries or a bit of both! Month after month publishers and developers treated Gamers with new and exciting titles that brought joy and delight to our consoles throughout the year.

While 2017 finally brought us the year in gaming that we had all clamored for since the beginning of this current generation of systems, it also brought us a new way of playing games with the Nintendo Switch. Taking the world by storm in its first year of release, Nintendo was able to not only launch their first successful console since the Wii but also released two of the best games in the company’s lifetime.

Not to be outshone by Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox had equally strong years with titles releasing left and right that took the world by storm. Masterfully filled with secrets and things to find that wink and nod to the entire franchise, Super Mario Odyssey also introduces new gameplay mechanics that feel right at home in a Mario game. With countless moons to find and so many beautiful and different worlds to travel, Super Mario Odyssey is a title that will please any Gamer but also anybody new to gaming!

Before we get started, let us be the seventh or eighth people to wish you a Merry Christmas. Hopefully, by now, you’re on your fourth or fifth ale of the day which will make this article all the more enjoyable.

I’m talking about KD staring down Rihanna, one of the world’s foremost sex symbols, like she was some sort of drunken, middle-aged, Cavaliers fan-schlub who tanked 10k into courtside seats.

Anyone who’s ever gotten laid in their entire life knows that if a girl’s trying to hook up with you, she’ll usually throw a little shade your way. Especially the 10’s of the world like Rihanna. Rihanna is the hunter in this situation, and in my professional opinion, KD was her prey. Sure, she may have been repping LeBron as hard as anyone in The Oracle, but LeBron, as he’s said about 500 times, is a husband and a father. As much as Rihanna may want The King’s crown, an affair between those two, in today’s times, would be all but impossible to pull off.

That would be like Donald Trump trying to go behind closed doors with Kylie Jenner — literally, every single person on Earth would probably hear about it at one point or another. You would have people in Bangladesh telling their buddies, ‘Yo you hear LeBron piped Rihanna?’. Both of them go by one name, and when your one of those one-name people (Prince, Beyonce, Elvis, Harambe, etc.) there are no more secrets.

So, if you’re Rihanna, and you can’t hook up with for LeBron, what do you do? Go for literally the next best thing: Kevin Durant.

And it was a classic chick move too. She talks shit at the game, so when you see her at the club later that night, you already have an opening line. Flirting is essentially playful shit talking, and Rihanna was trying to lay the groundwork. Just look at that … look!

And how does Durant react? Like an 8th grader who’s never picked up a signal in his life. Back in my day, when I was about 13, 14 or whatever, when we’d play manhunt, a girl and a guy would pair off and they’d haphazardly make out in the bushes.

KD would be the kid to be playing manhunt, get paired off with the hottest girl in the grade behind the most secluded bushes in the neighborhood, and when that girl makes a move, he’d say, ‘SHHHHHHH, they’ll find us!’.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is a Greek professional basketball player for the Milwaukee Bucks in the National Basketball Association.

Antetokounmpo who is only 23-years-old is in his fifth season in the NBA, last season he made his First All-Star appearance and won Most Improved Player. Standing at 6 ft 11 in Antetokounmpo is one of the most athletic and versatile young players in the NBA and is on the verge of becoming a superstar in the league. He has helped the Bucks make the playoffs twice in his first four seasons, including last year when he was clearly their best player.

In September of 2016 Antetokounmpo signed a four year $100 million contract extension with the Milwaukee Bucks. With such great length and handles he has become a difficult player for teams to defend, while also being a great defender himself with the ability to guard all 5 positions. Although he had not reached his full potential at the time of his contract extension,it is clear the Bucks made the right decision in signing him long term.

In 2009 he began playing competitively for the youth squad of Filathlitikos a Greek professional basketball club. Antetokounmpo would join the senior squad of Filathlitikos where he would average 9.5 points 5 rebounds and 1 block per game. The Milwaukee Bucks would go onto to select him with the 15th pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.

2013-2016

In a draft that was not highly anticipated, Antetokounmpo was one of the great unknowns a tall lanky kid from Greece with minimal experience. His first season he only started 23 of the 77 games he played and struggled to find his jump shot, only scoring 6.8 points per game. Antetokounmpo who was only 18 when he was drafted grew 2 inches after his rookie season. He would use that length to get to the basket more often which would lead to an increase in his scoring each of his next three seasons.

2017-Present

After having a great playoff series against the Toronto Raptors, expectations for Antetokounmpo have gotten higher. Over the summer the Black Mamba Kobe Bryant challenged Antetokounmpo to win Most Valuable Player this season. Although he has some stiff competition Antetokounmpo is on the right track as he is second in the league in scoring with 30 points a game. He has quickly become a fan favorite for Bucks fans but also for NBA fans across the globe.

Rollins wants a piece of Sheamus & Cesaro (The Bar), while Jordan wants to send a statement to the locker room of Monday Night Raw. Rollins has some unfinished business with The Bar, while Jordan just wants to be known as someone other than Kurt Angle’s son.

Rockets vs Thunder, Russ vs The Beard, Melo vs Cp3. This game alone has so many story lines its hard tout it all into one short article. Russel Westbrook and James Harden were teammates in OKC what seems like forever ago and have each become one of the best players in the league, in fact they were 1 and 2 in the MVP voting last year. Besides those two you also have two of the banana boat brothers squaring off with long time friends Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul.

James Harden is following up his stellar 2016-2017 campaign with another great season under Mike D’antoni. James Harden is an absolute menace on the offensive side of the floor and they guy can draw a foul like nobody else. With the addition of CP3 you sorta expected Hardens numbers to drop but thats far from the case. If anything Paul helped free up Harden for clearer lanes to the basket. The Rockets are currently tied with the Warriors for the #1 seed in the West with a 25-5 record.

The Thunder come into this game still trying to figure to how all their shiny new pieces are going to fit together. Their big 3 consists of defending MVP Russel Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony and Paul George. They have done most of their scoring through the use of Iso’s, in fact they have one of the highest isolation rates in the entire NBA. If the Thunder are going to keep up with the scoring onslaught that Harden and Chris Paul can orchestrate OKC is going to have to learn how to pass the ball fluidly.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a great day of opening gifts and watching some great NBA games. The NBA begin playing games on Christmas since 1947 when the New York Knickerbockers defeated the Providence Steamrollers at Madison Square Garden. The tradition continues today as there are five NBA games scheduled including those same New York Knicks who will take on the Philadelphia 76ers in the first game at 12:00 PM ET.

Pregame

This is the first time this season the Knicks and 76ers are facing against each other and it should be a promising match-up. Both teams came into the season with different expectations on how things may pan out. After showing off their franchise player Joel Embiid last season plus the return of Ben Simmons and new number one pick Markelle Fultz. Many believed the 76ers would improve with a possibility of making the playoffs. Whereas the Knicks had a terrible season last year with many distractions including former team president Phil Jackson and whether or not Carmelo Anthony would be on the team this season. Now with both Anthony and Jackson gone, new franchise player Kristaps Porzingis has led this team to a great start with the hopes of reaching the playoffs. Watching Embiid and Porzingis go head to head is one gift but watching these two up and coming teams go at it is a gift everyone can enjoy.

First Quarter

11:30- Enes Kanter guarding Joel Emiib early on, the defense did not matter as Embiid hits a fadeaway jumper.

10:30- 76ers Ben Simmons playing great defense on Kristaps Prozingis who is now 0-3.

9:40- Knicks finally on the board with a mid-range jumper by Courtney Lee.

8:50- Enes Kanter offensive rebound, something he has excelled at in the early season, let’s see if Emiib can prevent that. Porzingis on the scoreboard with two free throws

7:53- Kristaps with a nice one-handed fast-break dunk.

7:10-6:50- JJ Reddick(76ers)  and Courtney Lee (Knicks) two veterans on these young teams trade baskets and are off to a good start 4 points apiece.

6:00- Great help defense by Kristaps who gets the block, he has turned into a good rim protector.

4:10 The French man Frank Ntilikina with a nice move off of the screen for an easy lay-up.

3:35 Kristaps with a sweet face-up jumper over Dario Saric who played good defense but Porzingis is just too tall.

2:30- With Ben Simmons out and Embiid back in the 76ers are clearly trying to feed Embiid the ball and get him going offensively.

2:25- Another great block by Porzingis as he swats Covington’s lay-up attempt.

00:52- Embiid post spin-around for a ferocious two-handed slam, followed by a block at the other end.

00:02- Kyle O’Quinn with a mid-range jumper to end the first quarter

00:00- Knicks-24 76ers- 21. With Embiid on the bench, the 76ers have trouble finding a rhythm on offense, while the Knicks’ Porzingis and Courtney Lee are off to a good start scoring the ball

Second Quarter

11:40- Coach Brett Brown said he wants to see Embiid get the ball lower in the paint, first play of the second quarter post up fade-away jumper.

11:10- Embiid follows up with a spot-up three-pointer.

10:59- “The walking bucket” Micheal Beasley is on the scoreboard with a mid-range jumper.

10:50-10:00- Both teams trading baskets and picking up the pace which is what we expected from this game.

8:30 Ben Simmons gets his first basket with a post-up hook-shot.

7:12- With Porzingis taking a rest, Beasley is trying to be the go-to guy on offense for the Knicks.

5:00- Both offenses a little stale in these last two minutes, a lot of turnovers. Would love to see Porzingis get more post-up opportunities and Simmons to attack the basket more.

4:38- Courtney Lee ends the scoring drought, followed by a Dario Saric lay-up for the 76ers.

3:00- Porzingis with two back to back post scores, Saric cannot handle Porzingis down low.

2:35- Saric getting back at Porzingis with a nice fake to the left and finish with a right hook

1:53 Knicks trying to take advantage of Porzingis in the paint with Saric on him, leading to a foul.

1:30- Covington who his a three-point threat and has a nice jump shot just cannot by a basket.

00:44- Deep three by JJ Reddick coming off the screen just like he was back at Duke. He follows that by getting fouled shooting three giving the 76ers a 4 point lead.

00:06- Enes Kanter with ANOTHER offensive rebound and the putback lay-up

00:02- ANOTHER block by the Unicorn Kristaps Porzingis to end the first half, but the 76ers go into halftime with the lead 50-48

00:00- The pace picked up in the second quarter and made this game more exciting. Both teams need to find players to pick up the slack when Embiid (76ers) and Porzingis (Knicks) go to the bench. Ben Simmons needs to do what everyone expects from him facilitate and get to the basket.

Third Quarter

11:52- First Possession of the quarter Ben Simmons race down the court for an easy lay-up.

11:00- Lance Thomas takes advantage of the confusion on the pick-and-roll and gets a lay-up.

10:05- Hard foul on Joel Embiid by Jarret Jack who runs right into Embiid in mid-air. Joel sat on the floor for a while, as words were exchanged between both teams on the court.

9:15- Enes Kanter nice face-up jumper over Embiid.

9:00- Embiid right back at Kanter with a nice post move and score.

7:48-Kanter draws his second foul as Embiid attacks the post and yells much to the dismay of the Knicks fan.

7:20-7:08- Courtney Lee with a much needed three to cut the lead to four, followed by ANOTHER block by Porzingis.

5:15- Simmons with a beautiful past to Saric who finishes with the lay-up.

4:15- Announcer Kara Lawson mentions how the 76ers have thought twice about going to lane with Porzingis there. As Sarci drove to the lane and then kicked it out for a three-point attempt

3:00-2:50- Kanter and Embiid trade baskets again as this game is beginning to heat up. Not the Porzingis and Embiid match-up we thought but this will do.

2:33- Coach Jeff Hornacek seems very upset by the lack of foul calls for the Knicks.

1:43- Kanter with a great ovation from the crowd for his great effort on defense and offense.

1:24- Dougie McBuckets with a deep three for the Knicks to cut the lead to one

00:25- TJ McConnell has turned it on in the last 2 minutes as he scored the last 8 points for the 76ers

00:04- Beasley with a nice pass to Kyle O’Quinn down low who scores to cut the deficit to 4.

00:00- Embiid (21 points) and Kanter (25 points)going at it in the third quarter have been the highlight of the game so far. As Kanter has provided some help for Porzingis. While McConnell and JJ Reddick have been the help for Embiid as Simmons struggles to find an offensive rhythm.

Fourth Quarter

11:20- Beasley has had three looks at an open three-point shot and has passed them up he has to take those shots.

10:59- Beasley attacks the rim for two points.

10:25- Reddick with a deep three after two offensive rebounds by the 76ers.

7:47 76ers starting to heat up offensively has Bayless hits a three to make it an eight-point lead.

7:30- Porzingis gets a deep three to go down off of an Enes Kanter offensive Rebound.

6:30- Embiid struggling to score in the fourth quarter.

6:05- Kanter with ANOTHER offensive rebound (22!) this one coming with an emphatic putback dunk to cut the lead to three.

5:20- Knicks find Porzingis at the top of the key with a miss match on Jerryd Bayless, Porzingis connects with a jumper and a foul to tie the game.

4:35- McConnell gets the steal and finds Simmons for a one-handed fast-break dunk.

3:55- Ben Simmons struggles continues as he misses two free throws.

3:30- JJ Reddick hits another three to give him 22 points in the game.

2:25- Embiid with a corner three to give the 76ers an eight-point lead, as he runs back down the court celebrating.

1:33- Beasley misses two free-throws, followed by a Knicks turnover and another Ben Simmons fast-break dunk.

1:06- Five-second violation by the Knicks, as Embiid has a chat with a few fans.

00:23- Steal and a three-pointer by Courtney Lee plus an away from the ball foul on Embiid. But Porzingis miss the free throw and failed to get the rebound.

00:06- A steal by JJ Reddick seals the game as the Knicks could not capitalize on free-throws and also couldn’t take care of the ball.

00:00- Embiid (25 points 16 rebounds) got some help from Reddick(24 points) and McConnell (15 points). While the Knicks had a good performance from Kristaps (22 points), Enes Kanter (31 points 22 rebounds) and Courtney Lee (20 points).

Boxing Day always falls on December 26, the day after Christmas. In the United Kingdom and its former collection of nations, Boxing Day is a secular holiday with no religious roots. However, in European countries such as Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, and Scandinavia, this day is celebrated as if it were an extension of Christmas (or the second day of this holiday). Boxing Day also falls on the same date as St. Stephen’s Day in Western Christian tradition, a date set aside to celebrate the first Christian martyr or protomartyr.

The Penultimate contests that fans and experts have been eagerly anticipating are nearly here. While the numerous Bowl Games that have proceeded the College Football Playoff have been incredibly competitive in their own right, the top four teams that had to fight vigorously from the start to the end of the regular season will get a grand opportunity to earn an accolade that trumps all others: a National Championship. The first semi-final matchup of the day features two elite programs that have utilized divergent strategies and personnel to get this far. Of course, the run-heavy, stout defense of the Bulldogs has been largely unstoppable. Even the lone team that was able to dismantle them earlier in the season eventually succumbed to the Bulldogs oppressive and physical style of play (see SEC Championship game vs. Auburn). Although the Sooners have a capable defense of their own, it his never been their saving grace. Throughout the season, Heisman trophy winning quarterback Baker Mayfield has continuously and fearlessly carried his team to one impressive high scoring victory after another.

RoseBowl Game

Georgia Bulldogs (3) vs. Oklahoma Sooners (2)

When attempting to compare and prognosticate a victor amongst two completely different programs, it usually behooves a poignant analyst to break down each teams strengths into three essential categories: passing efficiency, rushing efficiency, and defensive efficiency.  Obviously, the Sooners have a distinct advantage when it comes to their prolific passing game that is led by the gunslinger Baker Mayfield. Throwing for 41 touchdowns and just five interceptions, Mayfield is a strategically aggressive playmaker that can be exceptionally surgical when throwing the deep ball (11.76 yards per pass attempt) while having the discipline to take what he can get with his legs if the coverage downfield is particularly oppressive (five rushing touchdowns). Although Bulldogs quarterback Jake Fromm may not have the accolades or elite statistics that Mayfield possess, he was quietly one of the most efficient passers in college football over the last five games of the season (eight touchdowns and one interception during the five-game stretch). When it comes to rushing the football, the Bulldogs have one of the best running back tandems in college football led by Nick Chubb (13 touchdowns, 1175 rushing touchdowns) and Sony Michel (13 rushing touchdowns, 948 rushing yards). While the Sooners have an intriguing featured rusher in Rodney Anderson (11 rushing touchdowns, 960 rushing yards), they don’t necessarily have the impressive depth that the Bulldogs do at the position. Defensively, the Bulldogs have been a top-five program throughout the season (13.2 PAPG) and were particularly ruthless during their last three games of the season (held their last three opponents to 27 total points). However, the Sooners perceived dreadful defense has actually been competent recently as they dominated a dynamic Horned Frogs offense in the Big 12 Championship Game. While the physicality of the Bulldogs will force the Sooners to be consistently dynamic on offense, Baker Mayfield has proven throughout this season that is electric play is usually more than enough to lead his team past a worthy opponent in high-pressure situations.

Final Score: Bulldogs 31 Sooners 38  Spread: Georgia -1.5

Although the coming of the New Year may be a moment for most individuals to euphorically and hastily set lofty New Years resolutions, there will also be those that have one desire to satiate before considering anything else: watch the College Football Playoff. While the initial contest between Georgia and Oklahoma will be incredibly thrilling, the second Semi-Final game between Clemson and Alabama will undoubtedly be just as emotional as supremely competitive. After winning last years National Title Game by scoring a touchdown with one second remaining, the Clemson Tigers will be highly motivated to send their postseason rivals home on the first day of the New Year yet again. However, the immensely talented Crimson Tide will be seeking retribution for falling just short of winning another National Title. With both teams having potent defenses and athletically mobile quarterbacks, this should be a fury fueled contest that could very well outdo last years meeting when all is said and done.

As everyone and their mother undoubtedly know by now, the Crimson Tide is a talent-laden program that always has an elite defense with which to dispatch overly confident opposition. Allowing opponents to score just 11.5 PPG this season (best in college football), the Crimson Tide have relentlessly shutdown seemingly every prolific offense that they have encountered. While Alabama’s defense is legendary, the Crimson Tide are also privileged to have a highly-athletic passer that has effectively baffled opposing defenses with his draw-dropping mobility. Although quarterback Jalen Hurts’ eight rushing touchdowns and three 100-yards rushing games are indicative of a confident runner, the sophomore passer has actually elevated his passing capabilities this season to become a true dual-threat asset (15 passing touchdowns, one interception this year). Combined with the capabilities of true running backs Damien Harris (8.2 yards per rushing attempt, 11 rushing touchdowns) and Bo Scarbrough (5.1 yards per rushing attempt, eight rushing touchdowns), the Crimson Tide are a well-balanced machine that can wear down their opponents quickly on both sides of the ball. Similar to the Crimson Tide, the Tigers have a lightning fast dual-threat passer in quarterback Kelly Bryant. Rushing for 11 touchdowns, Bryant has the impressive escapability to evade aggressive pass rushers consistently. However, while Bryant may not be known for his abilities as a passer, the first year starter was actually quite efficient this year as he completed over 67% of passes and threw just six interceptions. Outside of Bryant, the Tigers rushing game is solid but not nearly as explosive as that of the Crimson Tide. Still, the Tigers top two rushers in Travis Etienne (7.2 yards per rushing attempt, 13 rushing touchdowns) and Tavien Feaster (6.4 yards per rushing attempt, seven rushing touchdowns) have done their fair share of the heavy lifting on offense. Despite having the second-best defense in the country (12.8 PAPG), the Tigers will have a tremendously difficult time in shutting down the physical rushers of the Crimson and will also struggle at rushing against an Alabama front seven that, when healthy, is nearly impenetrable. In the end, Alabama’s top-notch defense and elite rushing capabilities will do just enough to overcome their hated rivals on one of the biggest stages of college football.

New Year’s Day. A euphoric day that is often saturated with a plethora of new ambitions (some of which are unrealistic) and a multitude of hungover adults that are looking to persevere through a painful start to the New Year. However, beyond the typical moments of glory and pain, there are actually several intriguing sports contest to view, not the least of which is an impressive slate of College Football contests. The first major contest of the day will see the most efficient offensive team in UCF attempt to dismantle the unforgiving defense of Auburn in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl. Despite playing in the less reputable American Athletic Conference, the Knights were able to dispatch every single opponent they faced en route to an undefeated season after finishing winless just two years ago. Although the ruthless Tigers have to feel somewhat disappointed after losing to Georiga in the SEC Championship game, they at least have a chance to redeem themselves in a nationally televised New Years Six Bowl against a worthy opponent.

UCF Knights (12) vs. Auburn Tigers (7)

Despite finishing the season undefeated, the well-coached and highly-talented Knights are still a program that has yet to receive the respect that they have rightfully deserved. With that said, this lack of acknowledgment has yet to affect the playmaking abilities of quarterback McKenzie Milton. Throwing 35 touchdown passes to just nine interceptions this year, Milton has epitomized the poise and efficiency of an elite quarterback, an honor that very few pundits have vocally bestowed on the underrated signal caller. Along with the physical attributes and leadership intangibles of Milton, the Knights were also fortunate to have a bevy of talented receivers, the most notable of which is  Tre-Quan Smith (14 total touchdowns, 20 yards per receptions). After not having a competent passer for years, the well-rounded Tigers finally found their man in quarterback Jarrett Stidham. Efficient (66.7 CMP%) and reliable (threw just four interceptions this year), Stidham has been a godsend for a Tigers program that has for far too long been reliant on a physical rushing game and a stingy defense to win competitive contests. However, the Tigers can hardly complain that they also have one of the most dynamic running backs in the country in Kerryon Johnson. When healthy, Johnson is a dangerously physical rusher that also has the impressive athleticism to be a reliable receiver in the short passing game (19 total touchdowns this season). While the high-scoring offense of the Knights will undoubtedly frustrate Auburn’s defense in certain moments, the Tigers are much more physical on both sides of the ball. With running back Kerryon Johnson being the obvious X-factor for the fearless Tigers, it’s had to imagine the Knights being able to do enough on defense to stifle Auburn’s efficient passing attack and potent rushing game.
