Nick Jonas is an American singer, songwriter, actor, and record producer. He was part of the famous band, the Jonas Brothers, with his older brothers, Joe and Kevin. Jonas is currently in his successful solo music career, having hit songs on the Billboard pop charts. The most highlighting work this dashing celebrity is apart of is his role in the fantasy/action film, Jumanji; it is scheduled to release in theaters on December 20, 2017.

Nick Jonas’ Net Worth 2017: $25 Million

The Texas native’s career started when he was discovered at the age of six in a barbershop. While his mother was getting a haircut, Jonas was referred to a professional show business manager. From performing on Broadway, in a band, and now as a soloist and actor, Jonas is one of the exciting, youthful, and successful stars in current pop culture. As of 2017, Jonas is worth $25 million.

Nick Jonas is the second youngest brother, having Frankie as his youngest sibling and Joe and Kevin as his older siblings. He began performing on Broadway at the age of seven, portraying characters such as Tiny Tim, Chip Potts, Little Jake, and Gavroche. Jonas wrote a song titled “Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer)” with his father while performing in Beauty and the Beast (2002). The song was later released through INO Records to Christian Radio in 2003, serving as Jonas’ debut single. Jonas co-wrote songs for an album with his two older brothers, who also provided background vocals for the release. Nicholas Jonas (2004) received a limited release on September 5, 2004. After being signed to Columbia, the brothers considered naming their group Sons of Jonas before settling on the name Jonas Brothers.

The Jonas Brothers released their self-titled second studio album through Hollywood Records on August 7, 2007. The album entered the top five of the Billboard 200 in the United States, going on to sell over two million copies in the country. The group’s single “S.O.S” became their first top twenty hit on the Billboard Hot 100, and has sold over 1.5 million copies in the country. Nick and his brothers made their acting debut on an August 17 episode of the Disney series Hannah Montana titled “Me and Mr. Jonas and Mr. Jonas and Mr. Jonas”. The band performed the collaboration “We Got the Party” with Cyrus and the episode gained over ten million viewers. In May 2008, he and the band began starring in their own Disney series Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream.

2012-2015

The Jonas Brothers released their new single, “Pom Poms” (2013), on April 2 through their own record label. Besides that, Nick was the co-host of the Miss USA 2013 competition on NBC; Jonas and his brothers performed during the event. The band released “First Time” as the second single from their forthcoming album. The band canceled their highly anticipated tour in October only days before it was set to begin, citing a “deep rift within the band” over “creative differences”, leading to speculation that the band would be parting ways. The brothers officially confirmed on October 29 that the band had split up for good.

With the Jonas Brothers officially broken up Jonas began working on material for his second studio album. Jonas made his return to music with the release of “Chains” (2014), the lead single to his second studio album. The single failed to achieve success after its release. “Jealous” (2014) was later released as the album’s second single, going on to become Jonas’ first top ten hit as a solo artist on the Billboard Hot 100.

Jonas released his second studio album, Nick Jonas (2014), through Island Records on November 10. The album debuted at number six on the Billboard 200, selling over 37,000 copies in its first week of release. Following the success of “Jealous” and the album, “Chains” was re-released as the next single from the album. The single achieved commercial success, reaching the top twenty of the Billboard Hot 100 and becoming his second multi-platinum single. He also starred in the film Careful What You Wish For (2015), which he filmed in 2013. Jonas released a new single, “Levels” (2015), through the label as the lead single to the re-released version of his debut album, Nick Jonas X2 (2015). Jonas had a recurring role as Boone Clemens in the comedy horror series Scream Queens; he is credited with five episodes of the first season.

Work on Jonas’ third studio album began as early as 2014, prior to the release of Nick Jonas (2014). The album was initially set to be titled Unhinged, though was changed to Last Year Was Complicated prior to its release. “Close” (2016), a collaboration with Tove Lo, was released as the album’s lead single. The project was a commercial success, reaching the top twenty of the Billboard Hot 100 and becoming his third top ten hit on the Mainstream Top 40 chart.

Nick’s contributions as a songwriter led to him receiving the honor of the Hal David Starlight Award in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Jonas embarked on the co-headlining Future Now Tour (2016) alongside Demi Lovato on June 29. Jonas also starred in the drama film Goat (2016) alongside James Franco; released on September 23. On May 26, 2017, Jonas released the single “Remember I Told You” which features British singer-songwriter Anne-Marie and American singer and producer Mike Posner.Jonas released the song “Find You” on September 14, 2017. Also, Jonas contributed to the Ferdinand soundtrack with the song “Home”, released on October 20.

Check out Nick Jonas’ role in the film, Jumanji, as Alex, which is coming out on December 20, 2017!

Massachusetts High School Eliminating The Term “Freshman”

I would like to meet someone who is outraged by the phrase “upperclassman” or “freshman”. If you are one of those people, please email me at eric.italiano@teamcoed.com to explain to me how on Earth you have the time or energy to be upset about the word freshman.

Sounds ridiculous, right? Well, apparently not, because this Massachusetts high school has now joined the growing list of schools that are doing away with such phrases for more “gender-neutral” terms.

Look, I’m all for sexual identity (not sure if that’s the proper nomenclature, but roll with me). You want to be gender non-binary? Be gender non-binary. You want to be both a male and a female? Go ahead. Want to get plastic surgery to turn yourself into a purple giraffe? None of my business. But at what point is the gender-neutralization of benign terms become ridiculous? I understand the whole bathroom thing, I really do, but if you have an issue with the word “upperclassman”, that’s a you problem, not an us problem — that’s just facts.

via ABC:

The change was recommended by a Gender and Sexuality Alliance Group at the school. The group went through the school’s handbook and came up with suggestions on how the language could be more gender neutral.

“Currently High School students would have the right of free speech to use the term ‘freshmen’,” James Winston, Esq., told WWLP. “The school would have a very high bar to show that there was some type of harm that would happen with that term being used.”

The school’s superintendent released a statement making it clear that students could still say freshmen if they choose to.

Easthampton High School was recently instructed to undergo diversity and inclusion training after being investigated by the Attorney General’s office for racial incidents at the school.

You just watch — give it another 5 or so years and we’ll be debating whether we should rename “mankind” — that’s where we’re headed at this rate.

Week 16, Fantasy Football Start ‘Em 2017: Who To Start This Week

This it. Championship week is now upon us. While most fantasy football participants are currently hanging their heads in shame after losing in the playoffs, there are still a select few worthy fantasy owners that are still competing for the ultimate prize: a league championship. Although this week signifies the end of another wild and thrilling fantasy football season, now is not the time to view this season with a sense of longing nostalgia. Until week 16 finally concludes on Monday night, fantasy owners will be either cringing with utter disappointment or jumping off their couches with glee as they bask in the euphoria of being crowned the champions of their respective fantasy leagues.

Nick Foles, QB, Philadelphia Eagles (vs. Oakland Raiders)

After looking masterful against the New York Giants last week, Nick Foles has quickly ascended as a viable option as a starting fantasy quarterback. Although Foles is by no means a gunslinger, his efficiency and familiarity when it comes to orchestrating the Philadelphia Eagles offense cannot be underestimated. While the Oakland Raiders defense has performed much better as of late (have held three of the last four quarterbacks they have faced to one touchdown or fewer), Foles has the requisite weapons and individual awareness to expose a Raiders secondary that has been below average at best throughout the majority of the season.

Martavis Bryant, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers (vs. Houston Texans)

Despite his off the field antics earlier in the season, Martavis Bryant has recently emerged as a viable deep threat for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to target. Garnering five targets or more in three out of his last four games, Bryant is clearly receiving the requisite volume needed to be a viable big-play option in fantasy football.  With Antonio Brown being officially ruled out of this Christmas day affair due to injury and Ju Ju Smith-Schuster lining up as a slot receiver, Bryant could explode statistically against a Texans defense that has relinquished the seventh most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers.

Theo Riddick, RB, Detroit Lions (vs. Cincinnati Bengals)

Assuming Theo Riddick can overcome a lingering wrist injury this week, the versatile running back should be considered a must-start in fantasy. Although Riddick has averaged an anemic 3.6 yards per rush attempt this season, he has been recently utilized in the red zone as a viable scoring threat (three rushing touchdowns in last three games). On top of that, Riddick is averaging 8.5 yards per reception this season, an area where the pass-catching rusher truly shines. Against the Bengals league-worst rushing defense, Riddick should be able to score in a multitude of ways and prove that his recent success is not a fluke.

Greg Olsen, TE, Carolina Panthers (vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

Normally, when a player comes off of the injured reserve, there is usually an understandable desire to ease him progressively back into a team’s respective offense. However, Greg Olsen is clearly the exception to this philosophy as he received three times as many targets (12) as Devin Funchess did (4) in the Panthers victory over the Green Bay Packers. Although this was most likely a display of Olsen’s ceiling and not his week to week production, he has proven to be Cam Newton’s trusted security blanket throughout his career and could go off again against a Buccaneers defense that has allowed the most passing yards per game.

Soon-To-Be Top 5 NFL Draft Pick Josh Rosen Says Football & School “Don’t Go Together”

As Ohio State Buckeye quarterback Cardale Jones once famously mused, why should sstudent-athleteshave to go to class if they came to the University to play football? After all, they “ain’t come to play SCHOOL” so classes are “POINTLESS.”

Well, it seems as though current UCLA stud Josh Rosen seems to share a similar sentiment, although he was able to articulate his point of view just slightly more eloquently than Jones did.

During a Q&A with Bleacher Report earlier this year, Rosen discussed injuries, the NCAA, and how “school and football don’t mix”, comparing it to having two full-time jobs.

via Bleacher Report:

“Look, football and school don’t go together. They just don’t. Trying to do both is like trying to do two full-time jobs. There are guys who have no business being in school, but they’re here because this is the path to the NFL. There’s no other way. Then there’s the other side that says raise the SAT eligibility requirements. OK, raise the SAT requirement at Alabama and see what kind of team they have. You lose athletes and then the product on the field suffers.”

–Bleacher Report: “Wait, some players shouldn’t be in school?”

It’s not that they shouldn’t be in school. Human beings don’t belong in school with our schedules. No one in their right mind should have a football player’s schedule, and go to school. It’s not that some players shouldn’t be in school; it’s just that universities should help them more—instead of just finding ways to keep them eligible.

Any time any player puts into school will take away from the time they could put into football. They don’t realize that they’re getting screwed until it’s too late. You have a bunch of people at the universities who are supposed to help you out, and they’re more interested in helping you stay eligible. At some point, universities have to do more to prepare players for university life and help them succeed beyond football. There’s so much money being made in this sport. It’s a crime to not do everything you can to help the people who are making it for those who are spending it.”

While Rosen’s certainly right, don’t expect the NCAA to change their rules anytime soon.

Although we are still a couple of weeks away from the highly anticipated College Football Playoff contests, there are still a plethora of intriguing Bowl games to view and thoroughly enjoy until then. Programs that are rarely featured in the limelight will get a fantastic opportunity to show off their unique proficiencies on the national stage. For draft aficionados, all of these postseason affairs should be digested and analyzed scrupulously to see if there are any underrated prospects worth keeping a keen eye on. Beyond that, fans of college football will be delighted to binge on one thrilling contest after another as the college football postseason continues to ramp up in intensity.

College Bowl Games On Today

1. DXL Frisco Bowl: Louisiana Tech Bulldogs vs. SMU Mustangs

Time: Wednesday, 8:00 PM E.T.
Location: Toyota Stadium, Frisco, Texas
TV Channel: ESPN

An underrated matchup that features two dynamic offenses, the DXL Frisco Bowl will be akin to a game of chess rather than a somewhat simplistic game of checkers. Led by their athletic quarterback J’Mar Smith (13 passing touchdowns, four rushing touchdowns), the Bulldogs are a run-first program that can fall back on a streaky passing game against vigilant defenses. With that being said, the Bulldogs truly flourish as an offensive unit when running back Boston Scott is able to shine as a rusher (5.7 per rush attempt) and receiver (9.1 yards per reception). Unlike the Bulldogs, the tenacious Mustangs have a prolific passing attack, which is orchestrated by the explosive albeit fairly inaccurate passer in Ben Hicks (58.7 CMP%, 32 passing touchdowns). Luckily, running back Xavier Jones (six yards per rushing attempt, nine rushing touchdowns) is adept at picking up the slack for his streaky quarterback. While the well-balanced offense of the Bulldogs should be efficient enough to keep this contest close, the explosive weapons that the Mustangs possess will ultimately do enough down the stretch to win what should be a highly entertaining affair.

Final Score: Bulldogs 30 Mustangs 33 Spread: SMU -4.0

LOVE Magazine

Irina Shayk, real name Irina Valeryevna Shaykhlislamova (seriously), is one of the world’s most famous models and also our BOY, Bradley Cooper’s, brand new baby mama.

Quick side note: shout out to Bradley Cooper for putting one in Irina — just a kid from Philly out here having children with one of the most beautiful women in the world. As Kevin Garnett once said, “anything is possible”.

Anyway, back to Irina.

Appearing in Day 20 of LOVE Magazine’s always spectacular advent calendar, Irina’s video is a departure from the previous 19, exercise inspired videos. But just because it’s different, doesn’t mean it’s worse, especially when compared to lame Kate Upton’s super lame Tennis video from the day before.

Do I have the slightest clue as to how this video relates to this year’s “Stay Strong” theme? Not at all. But does it matter? Also no.

New Study Shows What “Thing” Your State Hates The Most

Hater

In 2017, it can seem as though our nation is more divided than ever.

Every day you turn on the news, it’s something about Russia, or healthcare, or jobs, and no one can ever seem to agree.

However, if there’s one thing that truly brings Americans together — other than sports — it’s the mutual hate of something. And now, thanks to the dating app Hater  (don’t worry — I’ve never heard of it either), we all know what exactly our state hates the most.

For example, I’m from New Jersey, and the thing we despise most is actually reasonable: jellyfish. And as a proud New Jerseyian, I can tell you that shit’s the truth: jellyfish are the WORST.

Hater

But not every state has as reasonable of a hate as NJ.

Nevada, not realizing we’re living in 2017, hates feminism the most. Delaware just can’t f*cking stand Casey Affleck. And what’s up with Utah, Colorado, and Kansas? How can one hate porn, Nsync, and Seinfeld? Those three things are as American as apple pie.

All in all, thought this map is just one giant definition of ‘first-world problems.’

There’s getting lit, and then there’s getting so lit that the alcohol level in air registers on Breathalyzer lit. Truthfully, I’m not even sure how that’s possible, but these frat bros in Mayland pulled it off.

According to the Montgomery County Police in Maryland, a fraternity party included so much alcohol consumption that the air inside the house literally registered a positive on a Breathalyzer. The party, billed on Facebook as “Tequila Tuesday Hoy a las 22:00”, was hosted by six members of American University’s Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

When police arrived, they found about 70 underage people at the party with some participants being as young as 17.

via WTOL:

So much booze was being consumed at last month’s party that Montgomery County Police said the air inside of the building tested positive for alcohol. The home registered a .01% on at least one police department-issued breathalyzer, court documents state. For a person to be considered legally drunk, their blood alcohol level wound have to be .08%.

Police found about 70 underage people at the party, some as young as 17. Most attended AU. A Facebook invite promoted the “Tequila Tuesday” party, which has hosted by six members of AU’s Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

Inside, police found a house littered with trash bags, beer cans and liquor bottles, according to court records. The floor was noticeably sticky with spilled alcohol. The windows were covered with insulation, possibly to mute the party inside from the neighbors.

The six American University students who hosted the party — Jeffrey Becker, Ashton Acosta, Anthony Santana, Kevin Alkinburg, Matthew Berger and Tristan Ralph — been charged with 126 counts each of allowing underage possession of alcohol and furnishing alcohol to a minor. All of them are 20 years old ad face fines up to $315,000.

Evan Longoria’s Net Worth 2017: How Much Is Evan Worth Now?

$
0
0

Three-time all-star 3B Evan Longoria was just traded this morning to the San Francisco Giants after spending all ten of his MLB seasons thus far with the Tampa Bay Rays. After coming off another gold glove season and hitting .270, the 32-year-old Longoria still has plenty to contribute to a contending team. Let’s take a look at his current net worth.

Evan Longoria Net Worth As Of 2017: $30 Million ($11.5 Million Annual Salary)

As a senior in high school, he was a first-team All-Serra League selection. Despite this, he was not highly recruited due to his 6’1″, 170 lbs. body. After being considered too slim for Division I baseball standards, Longoria spent his freshman year at Rio Hondo Community College where he played shortstop. There, Longoria earned first-team All-State honors and was offered a scholarship by Long Beach State University. He transferred to L.B.S.U. during his sophomore year and hit .320, earning All-Conference honors. Because LBSU’s current shortstop was future Rockies all-star Troy Tulowitzki, Longoria was moved to third base that season. In just two years at Long Beach State, Longoria put on some muscle and left the school measuring 6’2″ and 210 lbs. Prior to the 2006 M.L.B. Draft, Longoria was dubbed the best “pure hitter” among college players in his draft class by Baseball America. At third overall, he was the highest draft selection in school history and the Tampa Bay Rays gave him a $3 million signing bonus.

Minor League Career

Instagram Photo

Longoria continued to have success in the minor leagues and after just eight games with the Single-A Hudson Valley Renegades, he advanced to the Visalia Oaks. With the Oaks, he impressed the organization by immediately hitting .327 with 8 home runs and 28 RBI’s in just 28 games. After earning the Most Valuable Player award with the Double-A Montgomery Biscuits in 2007, Longoria was again advanced to the Triple-A Durham Bulls in 2008. Months later, he finally got the call to the big leagues after an injury to the Rays’ Willy Aybar.

Tampa Bay Rays Career 2008-2017

Instagram Photo

On April 12th, 2008, Longoria went 1 for 3 with an R.B.I. in his major league debut and went on to win the American League Rookie of the Year for the season. Over his ten year career, Longoria has batted .270, and collected 1,471 hits, 261 home runs and 892 R.B.I.’s, with his best hitting years being his first three seasons in the majors. In 2008, he also helped the Rays win the American League, but fell to the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series. Longoria is also Tampa Bay’s all-time franchise leader in home runs, R.B.I.’s and doubles as of his 2014 season, passing Carlos Pena in the first category and Carl Crawford in the latter two. In the past, Longoria has used “I’m Broken” by Pantera and currently is using “Down and Out” by Tantric as his at-bat song.

Personal Life

Instagram Photo

The similarity of his name with actress Eva Longoria has brought about playful comparisons between the two. Although both are Americans of Mexican descent, they are not related. When asked as a college baseball player in 2005 about the name similarity, he admitted that he got “ragged on it a lot, but I don’t mind. My friends and I think she’s hot”. After he was named to the 2008 All-Star Game roster, Eva sent Evan a bottle of champagne and a note thanking him for “doing the Longoria name proud”. In return, Evan sent Eva three signed jerseys. The name similarity between Evan and Eva has led to some heckling by opposing fans against him.

Evan Longoria was named the cover athlete for the video game “Major League Baseball 2K10”, succeeding Tim Lincecum. Longoria also appears in a commercial for the game that advertises a $1 million prize given to the first person to pitch a perfect game in MLB 2K10. In the commercial, Longoria breaks up a perfect game with a home run. On August 8, 2010, Longoria broke up a no-hitter in the ninth inning with two outs. Longoria spoiled Brandon Morrow’s attempt with a putt-shot to the Blue Jays’ second baseman, who was unable to make a play on it.

LaVar Ball’s Idea For A Basketball League That Rivals The NCAA Is Actually Not Bad

Okay, just hear me out.

At first, my reaction was just like yours: “LaVar Ball — what an asshole.” And this doesn’t change anything, LaVar Ball is still undoubtedly an asshole. But that doesn’t mean he’s an idiot, as it could be argued he’s somewhat of a marketing genius (Big Baller Brand has received what would equate to $13.2 million in advertisements while President Trump feuded with Ball). And this league, dubbed the Junior Basketball Association is … kind of a good idea.

According to ESPN, the league will be for nationally ranked players who have graduated from high school but don’t want to go the traditional route of going to college.

The Junior Basketball Association, which Ball said is fully funded by Big Baller Brand, plans to pay the lowest-ranked player a salary of $3,000 a month and the best player $10,000 a month. And $10,000 dollars a month, in any walk of life, especially as an 18-year-old kid, is quite the paycheck. Ball is reportedly looking for 80 players to roster 10 teams that will be looking to play NBA arenas in major cities such as Los Angeles, Dallas, New York and Atlanta.

Ball thinks it will be “easy” to attract players, saying “This is giving guys a chance to get a jump start on their career, to be seen by pro scouts, and we’re going to pay them because someone has to pay these kids.”

Ball said the rules of his league will follow NBA rules such as 12-minute quarters and a pro 3-point line.

The players, of course, will be wearing Big Baller Brand gear, including BBB shoes and a BBB-branded uniform.

The logo, also of course, is a silhouette of his son Lonzo going up for a dunk. Why? “We don’t need a logo of a guy dribbling. Nobody does that anymore,” Ball said.

Louisiana Tech vs. SMU Live Stream: How to Watch Frisco Bowl Online

$

In the second weekday bowl game of the season, there is a contest between two average teams. These teams are the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and the SMU Mustangs. Both teams started the season with very average expectations and both teams have reached those expectations by qualifying for a bowl game. Both teams managed to win at least six games and will look to add a bowl game victory to successfully culminate their seasons.

Louisiana Tech’s success is due to sophomore quarterback J’Mar Smith. This season, Smith threw for 13 touchdowns along with over 2,700 yards and only five interceptions. However, Smith also ran for 356 yards and five touchdowns. Smith’s ability to extend plays with his legs will be a crucial factor in this bowl game as Smith will need to generate several scoring drives if Louisiana Tech plans on winning this contest. Assisting Smith is running back Boston Scott who had 937 yard rushing this season along with nine total touchdowns. As a senior, this is Scott’s last game with the Bulldogs and I expect him to go out with a great performance.

SMU’s success is primarily due star quarterback Ben Hicks. In 12 games, Hicks threw for 32 touchdowns along with 3,442 yards. Hicks’ accuracy makes him a perfect fit for this uptempo SMU offense which averaged 40.5 points per game. SMU also averaged 308.0 passing yards per game which was the 16th most in all of college football this season. In other words, SMU’s offense starts and ends with Hicks. If SMU plans on winning this contest, Hicks will need to have a monster game through the air against this average Louisiana Tech defense.

As for my prediction, I have to side with Louisiana Tech. Although SMU has a more explosive offense, the Mustangs with be with a new head coach for the bowl game. Coach Chad Morris decided to leave SMU so he could become the new head coach at Arkansas. Replacing him is Sonny Dykes. Although Dykes is a good coach, I expect this SMU offense to struggle a bit due to the coaching change. I also have to question how focused the Mustangs will be with all of these distractions. I think Louisiana Tech comes out focused and pulls off this minor upset.

Sometimes, I wonder if God (or whoever/whatever makes the decisions for the universe) should take a more communistic approach. For example, some people are homeless, and then there are some people who are rich, famous, AND beautiful. How about a little more redistribution of wealth, huh?

Every so often, some random person will pop up on social media as the world’s *insert occupation here*. The world’s hottest doctor, nurse, cop, etc, you get the point. Today, we have the world’s hottest nurse.

Lauren Drain, a 31-year-old woman from Florida, is the latest to be deemed the world’s hottest something: the world’s hottest nurse. Drain,  a trained cardiac nurse and personal trainer, Drain now has over 3 million followers on Instagram.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Drain began her healthcare career at the age of 16 and has been a cardiac registered nurse for over eight years. Aside from being a nurse, Drain has worked in multiple fields during her career, including ICU as well acting as a charge nurse in operating theaters.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and am an NASM Certified Personal Trainer. I’m always striving to expand my knowledge when it comes to nutrition, health and fitness. I have worked with top coaches in the industry, both in client and mentor relationships.

I’ve competed in multiple Spartan and Tough Mudder Races ranging 10-14 miles in length. I did CrossFit for three years and competed locally before transitioning to the WBFF shows in 2014. I’ve always tried to stay active and stimulate both the mind and body through various active hobbies. I ride dirt and street bikes, I snowboard and ski, I’m afraid of heights but will happily leap off the Sears Tower in Las Vegas or paraglide over the Swiss Alps… You may say I’m a bit crazy, but it’s working.

Fitness model, nurse, cyborg, doesn’t matter — we’re into it.

Two Marshall University students are facing drug charges after four pounds of marijuana were shipped to their home, the former Pi Kappa Phi fraternity house.

Andrew Gifford, 23, and Eric Nguyen, 19, were arrested shortly after the package was delivered to the fraternity house on the 1400 block of 5th Avenue in Huntington, West Virginia.

According to criminal complaints from the Cabell County Magistrate Court, Gifford, who signed for the package using the false identity ‘Taylor Smidt,’ is accused of then taking the package to an upstairs bedroom before police executed a search warrant on the house.

Via Herald-Dispatch:

Police found high-grade marijuana, digital scales and several thousand dollars among Nguyen’s bedroom, the room in which Gifford was found, and among Gifford’s personal items. The search led police to then raid Gifford’s apartment in the 1300 block of 5th Avenue, finding more than 12 grams of marijuana in baggies and glass jars.

Police concluded Nguyen and Gifford had been stashing and selling marijuana from both locations, complaints state.

Both claimed to be Marshall University students when arraigned before Cabell County Magistrate Judge Dan Goheen, though the university has not confirmed. If so, the two may face university sanctions in addition to criminal charges, according to a university release.

Nguyen faces charges of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, while Gifford is charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute and conspiracy.

Both are being held at Western Regional Jail, with Nguyen’s bond being set at $100,000 and Gifford’s bond at $125,000.

Pi Kappa Phi is no longer recognized by the university. Fraternity members voted this past April to surrender its charter to the national body. The house, which is not owned by Marshall University,  will be shut down because of numerous safety issues and code violations.

Pablo Escobar’s Family Is Demanding A Billion Dollars From Netflix

For whatever reason, I still haven’t gotten around to watching Narcos yet, which is strange for me, considering I try and delve into every “prestige” drama that comes out these days.

I tried, once, but was on my phone a lot (as us millennials are) and therefore unable to keep up with the subtitles. From what I hear, it’s a great show. So great, in fact, that the surviving members of the Escobar family now want a piece.

Escobar’s 71-year-old surviving brother, Roberto De Jesus Escobar Gaviria, threatened to “close their little show” if Netflix failed to provide a $1 billion payment to his company, Escobar Inc., for intellectual property violations.

via The Hollywood Reporter:

Narcos Productions, LLC (NPL) — the company behind the series and its popular video game spinoff Narcos: Cartel Wars — contend that without NPL’s “knowledge or consent, on Aug. 20, 2016, Escobar filed use-based applications to register the marks NARCOS and CARTEL WARS with the [U.S. Patent and Trademark Office] covering a range of goods and services.”

Those services include everything from “downloadable ring tones” and “sunglasses, decorative magnets” to “temporary tattoos, bookmarks and sheet music,” according to the trademark application documents included with the letter.

“I don’t want Netflix or any other film production company to film any movies in Medellin or Colombia that relates to me or my brother Pablo without authorization from Escobar Inc. It is very dangerous. Especially without our blessing. This is my country,” Gaviria said.

Obviously — because this is what big companies do — lawyers for Netflix then threatened to retaliate by suing the Escobar family.

During the height of the Medellin Cartel, Gaviria worked as the lead accountant and “head of the hitmen,” where he was responsible for tracking billions of dollars in drug profits annually.

Phi Kappa Psi at Bowling Green State University has been suspended until 2020 following a hazing investigation. A letter from BGSU Dean of Students Christopher Bullins announced on Wednesday, December 21, that fraternity Phi Kappa Psi has been suspended through 2020.

According to Bullins’ letter, the fraternity was found to have violated the student code of conduct twice, in incidents involving hazing and discouraging participation in the conduct process. The suspension is in effect starting the spring semester.

The university says the fraternity was found to have violated the student code of conduct twice for hazing and discouraging participation in the conduct process.

“Please know that student safety is our No. 1 priority and we thoroughly investigate all reports of misconduct. BGSU does not tolerate activities that may put our students in harm’s way, impair their academic progress, or are personally degrading. This includes hazing. Not only is hazing forbidden by University policy, it is also against state law,” Bullins said.

Furthermore, the letter indicates that individual students may also be subject to further discipline.

The suspension begins in the spring and Phi Kappa Psi will be eligible for reinstatement in 2020.

That is all the information available at this time.

Here’s Our First Look At Dave Chappelle’s New Years Eve Netflix Special

Last year, Dave Chappelle signed a massive $60 million dollar contract with Netflix to mark his return to the world of stand-up comedy.

The first two specials, The Age Of Spin and Deep In The Heart of Texas, were released back in March to critical acclaim. However, while the stand-ups were predictably excellent, there was only one issue: they felt dated.

Recorded in 2015 and 2016, the first two stand-up specials that Chappelle put up on Netflix dealt with topics that happened in 2015 and 2016, meaning fans would have to wait until the third special, Equanimity, to find out Chappelle’s opinions of the way the world is in 2017.

And if this first trailer is any indication, that’s exactly what we’ll be getting. Discussing the pure idiocy that middle-class American displayed in thinking that President Trump would “fight for them”, Chappelle points out that Trump, in fact, is fighting for him: the rich dude.

Opening with the line “I’ve never had a problem with white people ever in my life, but full disclosure, the poor whites are my least favorite”, this two-minute clip shows Dave detailing his thoughts as he stood in line to vote during the 2016 Presidential election.

It’s a quintessential Dave Chappelle joke that has me rethinking our New Year’s Eve plans — maybe I should just stay in and watch this?

Dave Chappelle: Equanimity will be released on Netflix on December 31.
