The First “Official” Trailer For Stephen Spielberg’s New Movie ‘Ready Player One’ Is Here

Warner Bros.

I put “official” in quotations because while YouTube is referring to the below video as “Official Trailer 1”, this is the SECOND trailer I’ve seen for the movie.

So, for clarity purposes, here is the ACTUAL first trailer for Ready Player One, which premiered at Comic-Con four months ago. Spoiler alert: it’s gorgeous.

Iron Giant, Freddy Kruger, Death Stroke & Harley Quinn, and the DeLorean from Back To The Future and literally DOZENS of other awesome pop culture references) in the same movie? And Stephen Spielberg is directing? Yeah, you have our attention.

Then yesterday, the first “official” trailer (which we’re going to refer to as the second trailer because we aren’t idiots who like to overcomplicate things) dropped and featured a ton of new footage and pop culture nods, while also giving us a better grip of the plot.

Based on Ernest Cline’s novel of the same name, Ready Player One tells the story of Wade Watts, a teenage boy living in a dystopian future version of America where the only escape is a virtual reality world known as the OASIS.

Official synopsis via Warner Bros:

“The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.”

Given the pedigree of the source material, the well of pop culture icons to draw from, the legend behind the camera and the sure-to-be-excellent special effects, Ready Player One is shaping up to be one of the must-see movies of 2018.

College Basketball Power Rankings 2017: Week 6 Rankings

College Basketball Power Rankings Week 6

It’s not even Christmas yet. Although the start of the NCAA Tournament is still a few months away, you would not know it based on the sheer chaos and inexplicable upsets that occurred this past week. Three out of the top five ranked teams in college basketball lost at least once, with some of these devastating defeats coming at hands of Ball State (defeated Notre Dame) and Loyola-Chicago (defeated Florida). However, by far the most shocking and impressive upset of the week was Boston College outshooting the top-ranked Duke Blue Devils en route to 89-84 home victory. Clearly, the parity that has always existed in this sport is already permeating throughout college basketball, something that should delight die-hard fans that are anxiously looking forward to the riveting contests that occur in March.

1. Michigan State Spartans

While the Spartans defensive output is unsurprising (61.3 PAPG), their aggressive offense (80.2 PPG) led by Miles Bridges (15.6 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 1.6 BPG) appears to be the real deal. Although the outside shooting abilities of the Spartans are decidedly average (38.2 3P%), this should not be detrimental to their continued success as long as they can force the opposition to take ill-advised shots while playing the glass physically and relentlessly (44 RPG).

2. Villanova Wildcats

With Villanova easily taking out the highly efficient Gonzaga Bulldogs, the Wildcats emphatically proved that their somewhat easy schedule should not be the only aspect to gauge their success. Well-balanced on both sides of the court (85.6 PPG, 63.3 PAPG), the Wildcats do not appear to have any glaring weaknesses thus far and will most likely continue to baffle opponents as long as guard Mikal Bridgers continues to do it all (18.1 PPG, 6.4 RPG, 1.3 BPG, 2.1 SPG).

3. Wichita State Shockers

Whether its playing gritty on defense (68.2 PAPG) or confidently shooting the basketball (86.9 PPG), the Shockers look incredibly comfortable at improvising on the court depending on their opponent. Guard Landry Shamet has stepped up impressively as the Shockers cerebral leader on offense (16.3 PPG, 4.3 APG) while center Shaquille Morris has continued to be an intimidating inside presence as a capable defender (1.7 BPG). With the Shockers playing this unselfishly and intelligently, this is a program that most teams will struggle to figure out on a consistent basis.

4. Kentucky Wildcats

As is usually the case with a John Calipari coached program, the raw youthfulness has quickly become a potent force to reckon with on offense. Forward Kevin Knox has come into his own as an elite scorer (15.2 PPG) and rebounder (5.8 RPG) while guard Hamidou Diallo has been a consistent pest on defense (1.1 SPG) and offense (14.7 PPG). With Virginia Tech coming into town this week, the developing freshman of the Wildcats will get a grand opportunity to show how far they have actually come since losing to Kansas earlier in the season.

5. Duke Blue Devils

While the Blue Devils loss to Boston College was shocking, it was actually unsurprising that Duke’s propensity at coming back from huge deficits finally cost them a victory. Although the talent and coaching are clearly there, this program has to do a much better job at taking their opposition much more seriously rather than simply assuming that sheer talent alone will be enough to dispatch hungry opponents consistently in the ACC.

6. Miami Hurricanes

Although the Hurricanes have just one notable victory over Minnesota, their top-notch defense (57.1 PAPG) has done more than enough help this program win convincingly over nearly every opponent they have played. With Dewan Huell (5.6 RPG) and Bruce Brown Jr. (8.6 RPG) looking particularly tenacious as confident rebounders, the Hurricanes should continue to be one of the better teams in the ACC.

7. Arizona State Sun Devils

Undefeated and fearless on offense (91.8 PPG), the vicious and seemingly unstoppable Sun Devils continue to set the bar for what it takes to be one of the best programs in college basketball. Shooting 52% from the field and 42.7% from three-point range, the relentless and deep Sun Devils have everything going for them right now. With guard Tra Holder doing everything humanly possible to lead his team past elite opposition (21.2 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 5.2 APG, 1.4 SPG), Arizona State has the ideal leader needed to stay competitive during the latter months of the season.

8. Xavier Musketeers

With the Musketeers only loss on the season to Arizona State looking more and more like an understandable defeat, Xavier is starting to transform into an elite program with very few blemishes. Whether they face Baylor or Kent State, the Musketeers have not deviated from their impressive brand of basketball that has guard Trevon Bluiett (21.7 PPG, 5.4 RPG) doing anything and everything to motivate his team to new heights of success in each game. With the Musketeers shooting 54.6% from the field as a team, this program obviously has aspirations at winning the Big East and ultimately competing in the Final Four by the end of the season.

9. UNC Tar Heels

Although the Tar Heels have not played a serious competitor since losing to Michigan State, the way in which they have won their last four games cannot be ignored. Looking highly versatile as a team, they have clearly established a disciplined identity as Luke Maye (10.5 RPG, 19.9 PPG) and Joel Berry (16 PPG, 1 SPG) have been nothing short of fantastic on both offense and defense. If the Tar Heels can continue their win winning ways by taking out a well-rounded Tennessee program next, they will continue to rise up through the rankings.

10. Texas A&M Aggies

While a loss to an unranked Arizona team may seem somewhat egregious, the Aggies actually played exceptionally well in their only loss of the season. While the slight lapse on offense is a bit of a concern, the athletic contributions of big men DJ Hogg (15.4 PPG, 7.1 RPG) and Tyler Davis (13.8 PPG, 7 RPG) has hardly wavered up to this point of the season. If the Aggies can get some more production out of their guards, this is a program that has all the pieces to be an elite competitor in the SEC.

11. West Virginia Mountaineers

Since losing to Texas A&M in their first game of the season, the scrappy Mountaineers have played their defensive style of basketball to near perfection (65.4 PAPG). Better still, the Mountaineers have been impressively efficient on offense due to the confidence of Jevon Carter as both a prolific scorer (19.4 PPG) and ball facilitator (6 APG). Assuming West Virginia can maintain this level of play on defense, everything else should fall into place for a program that is tired of playing second fiddle to the Kansas Jayhawks.

12. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

After appearing the be supremely dominant on both sides of the court earlier in the season, the Fighting Irish have run into a formidable roadblock in their recent losses. With their most recent loss at home against Ball State, the Fighting Irish have looked decidedly sluggish, especially when it comes to Bonzie Colson’s serious struggles as a perimeter shooter (26.1 3P%). While Notre Dame has the talent and coaching to be elite, they need to work on their fundamentals if they want to remain competitive in the ACC.

13. TCU Horned Frogs

Arguably one of the hottest and most surprising teams in college basketball, the undefeated Horned Frogs have yet to slow down as a tenacious and effective offensive unit (87.3 PPG). Having the veteran leadership of guard Kenrich Williams (10.1 RPG, 14.2 PPG) combined with the impressive scoring depth on their roster as a whole (53.1 FG% as a team), has and will most likely allow the Horned Frogs to remain consistently competitive in the Big 12.

14. Seton Hall Pirates

Although there were some questions about the Pirates offense being competent enough to take on legitimate competition, their last three victories against Texas Tech, Louisville and VCU have quelled those initial criticisms (have scored 79 points or more in their last three games). With the defense playing well enough to allow the Pirates now proficient offense to win down the stretch, Seton Hall has the potential to continue to rise in the highly competitive Big East.

15. Purdue Boilermakers

Since losing to Western Kentucky and Tennessee earlier in the season, the resurgent Boilermakers have dispatched their recent opponents thanks to their oppressive defense (Have held five our of their last six opponents to 69 points or less). With forward Vincent Edwards fearlessly attacking the glass (9.2 RPG) and guard Dakota Mathias making all the right decisions as a confident point guard (4.6 APG, 13.8 PPG), the Boilermakers have comfortably and consistently established themselves as a well-rounded program that can take on anyone that is in their way.

16. Kansas Jayhawks

Losing back to back contests to two Pac-12 programs on the rise (Arizona State, Washington), the perennial National Title contenders have looked like a shell of themselves as of late. While the Jayhawks clearly have a promising mix of veteran and young talent on their roster, it has been the lack of continuity on both offense and defense that has kept this program from reaching their sky-high potential. Although it’s way too early to condemn the well-coached Jayhawks as being pretenders, they need to string together some impressive wins quickly if they hope to emerge as the best program in the Big 12.

17. Gonzaga Bulldogs

Although the Bulldogs have struggled to keep up with top-10 opponents in both of their losses, they have at least performed consistently when it comes to scoring (91.2 PPG) and moving the ball the effectively (17.7 APG). With Johnathan Williams being the physical leader for the Bulldogs (6.7 RPG, 15.5 PPG) and guard Josh Perkins being the unselfish ball facilitator (4.8 APG), this program should be able to get back on track sooner rather than later.

18. Baylor Bears

While the Baylor Bears have struggled mightily at times to produce on offense, they are proficient enough on defense (64.4 PAPG) to make up for it. With guard Manu Lecomte being the Bears most reliable shooter (16.6 PPG) combined with the elite rebounding skills of Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. (10.1 RPG), Baylor has usually been competitive and won the majority of their close scoring affairs.

19. Virginia Cavaliers

After overcoming their anemic offense in their first eight games thanks to a relentless defense, the Cavaliers were finally exposed in a hard-fought loss to West Virginia. Although the Cavaliers do not necessarily have to be a prolific shooting program to be consistently successful, they will have to better at taking high-percentage shots if they want to have a chance against the well-rounded opposition (69.4 PPG).

20. Florida Gators

Losing a contentious affair to Duke is one thing. Succumbing at home to an unranked Florida State program and a vastly inferior Loyola-Chicago team is a much more concerning matter. Once the highest scoring program in terms of points per game, the Gators have struggled mightily to get anything going on the offensive side of the court as they have scored just 66 points or less in their last three games. If the Gators can get a much-needed win over a sneaky competitive Clemson program next, they could easily get back on track as being a contender in the SEC.

21. Minnesota Golden Gophers

Losing three out of their last four games, the intimidating size and scoring proficiency of the Golden Gophers has seemingly lost most of its luster. While the shocking drop off in the defensive capabilities of Jordan Murphy is clearly a significant reason for the Golden Gophers recent woes (one block and one steal in his last three games combined), the decreased scoring efficiency of Reggie Lynch (scored in single digits in his last two games) has not helped the matter either.

22. Tennessee Volunteers

While the Volunteers have yet to flash any type of dominance on offense or defense (79.4 PPG, 65.6 PAPG), their ball-movement capabilities have been truly elite and have allowed them to grind out some impressive victories (19.1 APG). Beyond that, the Volunteers are a cerebral program in that they take high-percentage shots from the field (45.2 FG%) and from three-point range (41.2 3P%). With the UNC Tar Heels coming up next, the Volunteers will need to maintain their poise on defense while finding ways to extend possessions and score consistently.

23. Texas Tech Red Raiders

With Texas Tech’s lone loss coming against a red-hot Seton Hall program, it has become difficult to look past what the Red Raiders are accomplishing on offense (82.6 PPG) and defense (62.1 PAPG). While guard Kennan Evans is clearly the most prolific two-way player that the Red Raiders have at their disposal (17.9 PPG, 2 SPG), senior forward Zach Smith has slowly rediscovered his efficiency as a tremendous rebounder (4 RPG) and shot blocker (1.6 BPG).

24. Georgetown Hoyas

Quietly 8-0 on the season, the Hoyas have cruised through their non-conference schedule albeit against fairly easy competition. However, if we have learned anything from this past week it is that competitive programs take care of business against inferior opponents and win essential victories against the reputable opposition. If center Jessie Govan (13 RPG, 1.3 BPG, 20.6 PPG) and forward Marcus Derrickson (7.3 RPG, 13.5 PPG) can continue to be tenacious on both offense and defense, the intriguing Hoyas will have a great chance at being a sleeping giant in the Big East.

25. Creighton Blue Jays

Although the Blue Jays have been fairly inconsistent when it comes to scoring the basketball, they actually did enough in their latest victory over Nebraska to secure an impressive victory. Averaging 30.6 minutes per game this season, senior guard Marcus Foster has consistently been the offensive spark for the Blue Jays whether they win or lose (19 PPG, 48.1 FG%). In order for this program to be taken seriously in the Big East conference, the Blue Jays will need much more defensive production from sophomore forward Martin Krampelj (8.1 RPG, 0.7 BPG).

Have a very Happy Hanukkah with the best memes, GIFs, and jokes on the ‘net. Light up your candle (and maybe something else) and enjoy this special Jewish holiday during the eight dankest nights of the year! How will you celebrate Hanukkah?

Honestly, I haven’t celebrated this holiday since the year 2000. I was born from a Jewish mother and the son of a Catholic father. When my mom died in 2001, so did Hanukkah as it was no longer celebrated at the Dunlop house. But the gifts on Hanukkah were never all that special anyway, maybe an action figure or a magic 8-ball if I’m lucky. My final Hanukkah gift was to watch WWF (now WWE) Armageddon 2000 where I saw The Undertaker push Rikishi off the Hell in a Cell and onto a pick-up truck full of hay. That pay-per-view gift counted as my entire Hanukkah present (go figure).

So, what is Hanukkah anyway? This holiday commemorates the rededication of Jerusalem’s Holy Temple during the time of the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire. In the Rugrats Hanukkah special, it was called the Maccababy Revolt (go figure).

Hanukkah Memes 2017: Best Jokes, Funny Photos, GIFs & Images

Rugrats/Nickelodeon

Hanukkah is celebrated on eight nights in December. This year, the holiday begins on Tuesday, December 12 and ends on Wednesday, December 20. Every day, you are supposed to observe the holiday by lighting one candle on the menorah. There are nine candles in total, and the top candle is meant to light every additional candle during the eight nights of Hanukkah. The top candle is known as the shamash or gabbai, meaning “attendant” or “servant.”

The traditional food of choice for Hanukkah is oil-based foods such as latkes and doughnuts. Don’t forget the matzo ball soup! Latkes are actually pretty damn good. You should try some and maybe slap on a Kippah (pronounced yamaka) if you’d like. And don’t worry about being accused of cultural appropriation, that’s just nonsense. Anyone is welcome to take part in the Jewish culture. You can even tell a joke or two (if you haven’t noticed, that’s also part of the culture).

Week 6, College Basketball Schedule 2017: TV Schedule & Games

0
0

Considering all the upsets that were prevalent this past week in college basketball, this weeks slate of intriguing matchups could also expose and elevate certain programs. Although it’s unlikely that fans and pundits will be treated to another week of chaos that shatters the perceived top-five yet again, given the parity in this sport, anything is possible and elite programs need to be vigilant as they try to maintain or elevate their prestige in the coming weeks. Although it’s almost impossible to properly gauge the legitimacy of any team at this point, this is still an essential time for the sleeping giants in college basketball to make their presence well-known against the college basketball elite.

Thought You Wasted Money? China Is Spending $45 Million On A Mars Simulation Base

Comedy Central

I once heard we know more about space than we do about the deep ocean. Can’t tell you where I heard it or who I heard it from, can’t even tell you whether it’s true or not —- but it sounds like an interesting fun fact so I roll with it.

So space, it’s big and it’s up there and sooner or later we’re going to have to get off this third rock from the sun and up into the big unknown. Ever seen Interstellar? Yeah, that’s essentially our future because sooner or later this planet is going to crumble, whether it be by nature’s hand or our own.

Which is EXACTLY why we can’t let the damn Chinese beat us to Mars. I don’t care if we need to use Qyburn’s magic to resurrect Stanley Kubrick to stage another faux landing, the United States of America absolutely must become the United States of Space if we’re going to survive. Elon Musk needs to quit dicking around with hyper loops and A.I. and get back to what really matters, MARS, because the Chinese are officially no longer f*cking around. You think it’s a coincidence that they’re ramping up their Mars projects in unison with Kim Jong Un’s increasing madness? Exactly.

Via Daily Mail:

China is set to spend 400 million yuan (£47 million) building a simulation base of Mars to conduct research and give locals a chance to see what living on the red planet would be like. Scientists will visit the base in Qinghai province to practice conducting experiments in similar conditions. It comes as the country rushes ahead with its plans to send probes to Mars by 2020 with bigger plans to send humans to the planet after

The site will house a scientific research base and eco-tourism site. The village will be based in Qinghai province of which 95,000 square kilometres is a desert with lack of vegetation. Video footage posted by state media show the site in which the base will be built.

According to Xinhua, the red rock area in Qaidam Basin in western Qinghai has been often referred to as the ‘most martian place on earth’.

Liu Xiaooqun, from the moon and deep-space exploration department of the Chinese Academy of Sciences said on Tuesday: ‘As China’s only Mars science and recreation base, we hope it will focus on the scientific theme of space exploration.’

Just another instance of Dave Chappelle being about 15 years ahead of everybody else.

Week 6, College Basketball Picks 2017: Spread & Predictions

As we work our way through what it will be a wildly unpredictable and exhilarating college basketball season, upsets and last-second victories have already become a regular occurrence. While most of these unexpected upsets should not dictate the future success of reputable programs, they will and should have a tremendous impact on how the perceived elite adjust their respective game plans to ensure that they do not experience a precipitous drop in terms of competitive legitimacy. Although we’re still several weeks away from the New Year, every program that has serious aspirations at finishing the season at the top of the rankings needs to establish a formidable identity sooner rather than later.

Mississippi State Bulldogs vs. Cincinnati Bearcats (25)

While it may be difficult to recall the last time the SEC was especially deep with serious competitors, all it takes is a look at the early success of the Bulldogs to realize the conference is nipping at the heels of the ACC. Disciplined and efficient on defense (61.9 PAPG), the Bulldogs have several well-rounded athletes that can rebound and force turnovers consistently. However, the Bearcats have a much more productive offense (83.4 PPG) and have the imposing size to outrebound most of their opponents (42.2 RPG). While the undefeated Bulldogs are intriguing, their less than impressive schedule up to this point will most likely leave them unprepared to take on a more physical and versatile Bearcats program.

Final Score: Bulldogs 69 Bearcats 79 Spread:

Villanova Wildcats (1) vs. Temple Owls

Although the Wildcats have not experienced a particularly tough schedule up to this points, their dominant win over Gonzaga combined with how they have defeated their other opponents has Villanova looking like one of the most dominant teams in the country. While Mikal Bridgers is far and away the Wildcats most valuable asset, Jalen Brunson has quietly been the disciplined orchestrator of this programs dynamic and proficient offense. While the Owls may not have the well-rounded athletes of their opponent, they do possess some prolific scorers in Shizz Alston Jr. (17.3 PPG) and Quinton Rose (17.3 PPG). Although the Owls have held their own this season, they have not faced a program with this many playmakers and will ultimately lose this in-state rivalry game as a result.

Final Score: Wildcats 88 Owls 73 Spread:

Butler Bulldogs vs. Purdue Boilermakers (17)

Although the Bulldogs have flown under the radar in the Big East, this is a program that has proven to be competitive on an annual basis and appears to once again have a competitive team to stay afloat in their conference. Thus far, the Bulldogs have been successful because of their tenacious defense and have been reliant on the rebounding capabilities of Kelan Martin (7.7 RPG) and Kamar Baldwin (4 RPG) in the majority of their victories. Unlike the Bulldogs, the Boilermakers posses a prolific offense that is capable of performing at a high level when Carsen Edwards (17 PPG) and Isaac Haas (15.1 PPG) are in rhythm. While the Boilermakers are easily the favorites to win this contest on paper, their strong albeit wildly inconsistent offense has cost them a couple of head-scratching losses and will likely struggle against a consistent Bulldogs defense (66 PAPG).

Final Score: Bulldogs 76 Boilermakers 69 Spread:

Seton Hall Pirates (15) vs. Rutgers Scarlet Knights

While the Pirates cannot be considered dominant in any particular facet when it comes to playing their brand of basketball, they have proven that efficiency can outweigh an overreliance on talent. With that being said, Desi Rodriguez (19.7 PPG) and Myles Powell (14.7 PPG) have proven to be more than capable of carrying their team on both sides of the court when their fellow teammates are struggling. Conversely, the Rutgers are blatantly dependent on their rebounding (45.7 RPG) and stout defense (57.3 PAPG) to win consistently. While Corey Sanders (1 SPG) and Geo Baker (1.2 SPG) have been sensational in consistently forcing turnovers, they will ultimately struggle to put up enough points to silence the streaking Pirates at home.

Final Score: Pirates 73 Scarlet Knights 60 Spread:

Syracuse Orange vs. Georgetown Hoyas

Despite struggling tremendously on the offensive end of the court this year (72.2 PPG), the Orange have been able to overcome their shooting struggles by relying on a tenacious defense led by Tyus Battle (1.8 SPG) and Frank Howard (2.1 SPG). While this lopsided style of basketball has proven to be effective in most situations (see Virginia Cavaliers), it usually becomes exposed against opponents that can seamlessly alter their offensive game plan on the fly. Although the Hoyas have a prolific offense (82 PPG), it’s their ball movement capabilities (18.8 APG) that have allowed them to go undefeated thus far. Even though the Orange have the better head coach in Jim Boeheim, the Hoyas have a much more dynamic roster that can overpower their opponents in a multitude of ways.

Final Score: Orange 65 Hoyas 74 Spread:

Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Kentucky Wildcats (8)

Since the Florida Gators tumultuous fall from grace offensively, the trigger-happy Hokies have emphatically claimed the throne as the best scoring team in college basketball (96.2 PPG). Shooting 55.3% from the field and 46.8% from three-point range, the Hokies are loaded with gifted shooters, the most notable of which is Justin Bibbs (17.5 PPG, 60 FG%, 47.6 3P%). While the Wildcats may not score at the same rate as the Hokies, they still have immensely talented albeit very inexperienced shooters themselves in Kevin Knox (15.2 PPG) and Hamidou Diallo (14.7 PPG). Despite possessing the more impressive athletes, the Wildcats still have some growing pains to work through when it comes to hitting perimeter shots consistently and will likely struggle to keep up with the potent offense of the Hokies.

Final Score: Hokies 86 Wildcats 82 Spread:

Cincinnati Bearcats (25) vs. UCLA Bruins

Although the Bearcats have lost two games in a row despite their impressive overall statistics, this is a program that has a tremendously high ceiling when it comes to playing defense (61.8 PAPG). In order for Cincinnati to be successful going forward, they will need Gary Clark to be a fearless rebounder (8.6 RPG) while Jacob Evans has to be much more consistent as the Bearcats ball facilitator (3.6 APG). In spite of the shenanigans that have surrounded them since the start of the season, the Bruins have done a fantastic job of shutting out the noise as they have played well enough on offense (84.8 PPG) to win the majority of their games thus far. While the Bruins should be pleased with how they have played recently, it will be too daunting and arduous of a task to upset a Bearcats team that is on the brink of breaking out on both offense and defense.

Final Score: Bearcats 85 Bruins 77 Spread:

Oklahoma Sooners vs. Wichita State Shockers (3)

While the Sooners football program has garnered the majority of the attention in recent weeks, their basketball team has quietly emerged as one of the best offensive teams in the country (93.3 PPG). Without question, the scoring output of Trae Young (28.8 PPG) has been nothing short of mind-boggling while the rebounding prowess of Khadeem Lattin (8.8 RPG) has been vital in giving the Sooners offense extra opportunities to do what they do best. Although Shockers may not have the elevated overall scoring numbers of the Sooners, they have a much deeper and capable roster led by Landry Shamet (16.3 PPG, 4.3 APG) Shaquille Morris (13.3 PPG, 1.7 BPG). While the Sooners appear to have the pieces to be an explosive offense this season, they will have their work cut out for them against a Shockers program that can win both shootouts and defensive grudge matches consistently.

Final Score: Sooners 88 Shockers 94 Final Score:

Florida Gators (22) vs. Clemson Tigers

Despite a devastating fall from grace on offense, the Gators were able to redeem what has an abysmal week as they defeated Cincinnati in a physical defensive affair 66-60. However, if the Gators want to truly get back to being elite, they have to do a much better job at hitting perimeter shots (39.7 3P%). Although the Tigers are capable of scoring themselves (79.8 PPG), they are at their best when their defense is operating efficiently (63.9 PAPG). With Donte Grantham leading the charge as the Tigers reliable rebounder (6.2 RPG) and Marcquise Reed’s dedication in forcing turnovers (1.7 SPG), Clemson has a physical one-two punch that overwhelms opposing offenses consistently. Although the Tigers are trending in the right direction, it will be extremely difficult to lock down a Gators offense that has proven to be more than capable of scoring a ton of points quickly.

Final Score: Gators 83 Tigers 70 Spread:

UNC Tar Heels (7) vs. Tennessee Volunteers (20)

During their current four-game winning streak, the Tar Heels have consistently stifled their opponents defensively and have been especially deadly on offense (88.1 PPG). If Luke Maye can continue to light up the scoreboard (19.9 PPG) and attack the glass fearlessly (10.5 RPG), the rest of the Tar Heels talented roster will emulate this type of athletic tenacity as well. Although the Volunteers are not quite as prolific scoring-wise as the Tar Heels (79.4 PPG) they have made up for it with a strong passing game (19.1 APG). While the Volunteers have a patient offense and a stingy defense (65.6 PAPG), their lack of a true superstar will be to their detriment against a gifted Tar Heels program.

Final Score: Tar Heels 83 Volunteers 78 Spread:

Triple threat match for the WWE United States Championship: Baron Corbin (c) vs. Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler

WWE Clash Of Champions 2017: Predictions, Analysis & Full Preview

WWE.com

Baron Corbin’s short reign as United States Champion has been a dominant one. He’s steamrolled through Sin Cara on SmackDown and The Miz at Survivor Series. But can he take out “The Showoff” Dolph Ziggler and “The Glorious” Bobby Roode in one night?

There’s a rumor going around that Dolph Ziggler will be leaving WWE soon, so I doubt that he will win the U.S. Championship. My guess is that Bobby Roode will win this match by pinning Ziggler, sparking a feud with “The Lone Wolf” Baron Corbin who will feel as if he never lost his title.

Bobby Roode defeats Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin to win the WWE United States Championship

WWE Championship match: AJ Styles (c) vs. Jinder Mahal

WWE Clash Of Champions 2017: Predictions, Analysis & Full Preview

WWE.com

“The Modern Day Maharaja” Jinder Mahal will likely be back on top before this year’s WrestleMania. But will his climb back to the top start at WWE Clash of Champions?

“The Phenomenal” AJ Styles might just be WWE’s best all-around wrestler. And he doesn’t want his second WWE Championship reign to be short-lived. He missed the main event of last year’s WrestleMania. He won’t mess up this opportunity (at least for tonight).

Styles will look very weak to suffer two back-to-back defeats. On the other hand, Mahal will look incredibly strong if he defeats Styles, putting the thought in the minds of fans that Mahal may have beaten Lesnar if given the chance. But it isn’t Mahal time back on the top yet. Styles needs to recover from his loss, then Mahal can knock off Styles at Royal Rumble before going on to face John Cena at WrestleMania 34.

AJ Styles defeats Jinder Mahal to retain the WWE Championship

If Owens and Zayn lose, they will be fired from WWE: Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn vs. Randy Orton & Shinsuke Nakamura w/ Shane McMahon as special guest referee

WWE Clash Of Champions 2017: Predictions, Analysis & Full Preview

WWE.com

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have been backed into a corner with this match. They have to battle “The Viper” Randy Orton and “The Artist” Shinsuke Nakamura. Plus, their arch nemesis SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon will be the special guest referee. That’s a real bummer for Big Kev and The Underdog of the Underground.

Somehow. Someway. KO and Zayn will pull off the victory. They may even have to knock Shane out and make his hand slap the mat three times for it to happen.

Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens defeat Shinsuke Nakamura & Randy Orton

Lumberjack match for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion: Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Natalya

WWE Clash Of Champions 2017: Predictions, Analysis & Full Preview

WWE.com

“The Queen” Charlotte Flair is one of the best in the game for a reason. It’s not so hard to take that strap off her shoulder (unless, of course, you’re Sasha Banks). Natalya may not be a boss, but she is “The Queen of Black Hearts.” She’ll also be looking to prove critics wrong and dethrone SmackDown‘s supposed queen at Clash of Champions.

This match may not even see a winner as the Lumberjacks (or lumberjills) might just lose control and hijack the match. The NXT trio of Ruby Riot, Liv Morgan, and Sarah Logan may just inject themselves into Charlotte and Natalya’s championship match again. Maybe this time, the ring will collapse with all the women wrestlers fighting it out, brawling to the ground and tearing the house down with it.

But really…I see “The Queen” Charlotte Flair standing tall at the end of the match.

Charlotte Flair defeats Natalya Neidhart to retain the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship

Fatal 4-way match for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship: The Usos (c) vs. The New Day vs. Shelton Benjamin & Chad Gable vs. Rusev & Aiden English

WWE Clash Of Champions 2017: Predictions, Analysis & Full Preview

WWE.com

This fatal 4-way match for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Titles is sure to tear the TD Garden down. Only one team will walk away with the silver and blue straps around their waists and shoulders.

The dark horse candidates to win are Rusev and Aiden English as they’ve mostly stayed away from the limelight despite English’s work in classical theater.

The Usos may just walk away with another dominant victory and incarcerate three additional teams inside The Usos penitentiary.

Or maybe it’s time for ya boys The New Day to reign supreme once again…baeee-beeee!!!!!

WWE Clash Of Champions 2017: Predictions, Analysis & Full Preview

WWE.com

I think it’s Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin’s time to rise to the top of SmackDown‘s tag team division. Benjamin deserves better than being back in the tag team game, but this can be a big stepping stone on his way to challenging for the WWE Championship…

Shelton Benjamin & Chad Gable win the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship

WWE Clash of Champions 2017 Announced Matches

  1. WWE Championship match: AJ Styles (c) vs. Jinder Mahal
  2. If Owens and Zayn lose, they will be fired from WWE: Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn vs. Randy Orton & Shinsuke Nakamura w/ Shane McMahon as special guest referee
  3. Triple threat match for the WWE United States Championship: Baron Corbin (c) vs. Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler
  4. Lumberjack match for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion: Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Natalya

Top 25 College Basketball Rankings 2017: Week 6 AP Poll

With a turbulent week that saw three of the top five teams lose at least one contest, this week’s AP Poll resulted in some serious shake-up. Most notably, the incredibly talented and well-coached Blue Devils fell three spots to fourth in the poll after losing a highly entertaining shootout on the road against Boston College. However, the largest drop in the rankings belongs to the Florida Gators who lost to both Florida State and Loyola-Chicago last week. Luckily for the Gators, they were able to hold a spot in the rankings thanks to a hard-fought defensive victory over a ranked Cincinnati Bearcats program.

Top 25 College Basketball Rankings 2017: Week 6

Impressively, the red-hot Arizona State Sun Devils jumped from 16th to 5th in the country after taking down both St. John’s and Kansas last week. One of the best shooting teams in the country, the Sun Devils have a deep roster that is highly cerebral when it comes to finding the open man on the court. On top of that, all but one of the Sun Devils impressive victories have been by double digits, a feat that clearly warranted Arionza State claiming a coveted spot in the top five. With a relatively easy three-game stretch upcoming before Pac-12 play commences, the Sun Devils could feasibly be the top-ranked team in the country by the end of next week.

Ranking Team (1st place votes)
1  Villanova (41)
2  Michigan State (19)
3  Wichita State
4  Duke
5  Arizona State (5)
6  Miami
7  North Carolina
8  Kentucky
9  Texas A&M
10  Xavier
11  West Virginia
12  Gonzaga
13  Kansas
14  TCU
15  Seton Hall

18  Notre Dame
19  Florida State
20  Tennessee
21  Baylor
22  Florida
23  Arizona
23  Texas Tech
25  Cincinnati

While the mostly new top-five rankings appear to have the best teams in the country for this week, Villanova (vs. Temple) and Wichita State (vs. Oklahoma) both face tough unranked opponents this week. If both of the aforementioned programs were to lose this week, Arizona State could be the logical choice to take over the top spot in next weeks AP Poll. Can the feisty Sun Devils continue their streak of dominance to become the new surprising kings of college basketball?

Dropped from rankings: Minnesota 14, Nevada 22, USC 25
Others receiving votes that did not make the poll: Creighton 79, Oklahoma 72, Texas 52, Louisville 19, Arkansas 17, Virginia Tech 15, Minnesota 15, Nevada 13, Mississippi State 8, UCLA 6, SMU 6, Loyola-Chicago 5, Alabama 4, Houston 3, Georgia 3, Towson 3, Northern Iowa 3, Syracuse 2, Boise State 2, Rhode Island 1, Middle Tennessee 1

This Story About Robin Williams’ Humanity Is Guaranteed To Make You Miss This Mountain Of A Man

Shutterstock

Of all the celebrity deaths I’ve lived through over the years, Robin Williams’ hit home the hardest.

Robin Williams was like a famous Dad for 90’s kids, as his appearances in films such as Mrs. Doubtfire, Hook, JackJumanjiPatch Adams and more were as paternal as any performances of the decade. Simply put, Williams was a second, more famous father to tons of millennials.

And even though Williams has been gone for over three years now, stories of his innate humanity and kindness continue to pour out, the latest of which comes from lawyer and writer Kate Osher, who was once consoled by Williams following the suicide death of her husband.

After struggling to get her husband’s ashes past TSA, Osher broke down to tears at the terminal bar. In tears until Williams showed up, that is.

via The Mighty:

After my first husband Greg died by suicide, I went on a travel quest of sorts, scattering his ashes where he requested and trying to piece my life and my soul back together as best I could. I spent quite a bit of time flying between Los Angeles (LAX) and Oakland, as I was living in West Hollywood but contemplating a move to San Francisco or Marin and visiting my best friend monthly at a minimum. Post 9/11 it wasn’t always easy to get a Tupperware of your late husband’s ashes through TSA security, and at LAX one afternoon I found myself on the receiving end of an agent with a power trip like no other. After several threats telling me I was going to have to toss the ashes and me going ballistic and falling into hysterics and finally having a real cop come in and look at the death certificate I always carried with me, I made it to the airport bar still crying and clutching my little container. I sat in a corner table facing the wall so no one could see how hysterical I was, with my whiskey on the rocks providing support, and I felt a hand on my shoulder. A soft voice stated, “Miss, I just want to be sure you are OK. I see you are traveling alone, and I saw what happened, and I just really want to be sure you are OK.” Through my tears I could place the voice but couldn’t actually believe Robin Williams was just casually strolling through LAX and would actually take the time to stop to see if I was OK.

I was still crying that ugly cry where you are trying to catch your breath, and I gave him the Cliff Notes version of circumstances. His eyes got a little glossy. His voice got softer. And he said to me, “Addiction is a real bitch. Mental illness and depression are the mother of all bitches. I am so sorry for all the pain your husband was in. I’m so sorry for the pain you are in now. But it sounds like you have family and friends and love. And that tips the scale a bit, right?” And he walked me to the gate, as we were on the same commercial flight.

He was a gentle soul. He made us laugh, and he made us cry. He made us feel with his craft. He was honest about his demons. He was open about his mistakes and his faults. He was obviously in pain.

Mental illness and severe depression are the mother of all bitches. Damn straight.

He was always there for our veterans, always there for our service men, children in hospitals, his own friends and family in need, and even a hysterical stranger in the airport. And what I haven’t yet shared was that during our walk to the gate he got me laughing. Impersonating people we passed by. Making fun of the TSA agents, especially the one who gave me such a hard time. In a playful way though. Not insulting (even though the guy totally deserved to be insulted). He told me I had a wonderful laugh. A beautiful smile. And when we parted ways, he hugged me. With his famously hairy arms, he gave me a huge, warm, bear hug, and it sustained me. It was a moment I think about all the time. That moment saved me. And sustained me. He sustained me during one of the most difficult moments of my life.

That’s who Robin Williams was: the watchful protector of those who struggled with the same demons as he did. Williams knew that even if he wasn’t able to save himself, he’d be able to save others. And save others he did.

You can read the full story over on The Mighty. Trust me when I tell you, it’s worth it.

Patriots Vs. Dolphins: Watch Monday Night Football Live Stream

Can the Miami Dolphins make up for their crushing defeat against the Patriots two weeks ago? Last week, the Dolphins drowned in their game against the Patriots, losing 17-35. Will New England steamroll Miami once more? Last Sunday, they shut out the Buffalo Bills with a score of 10-2. If the Patriots win tonight, they’ll grab their 9th consecutive AFC East title.

The Patriots biggest drawback in tonight’s game is their lack of Gronk. Tight end Rob Gronkowski is currently serving a one-game suspension for hitting Tre’Davious White with a cheap shot during last week’s game against the Bills. Number two tight end Dwayne Allen is expected to fill in the spot for Gronk. He helped the Patriots when Gronk was out with a high thigh injury in Week 5, logging a season-high 50 snaps that week. Third tight end Jacob Hollister will also get more field time tonight to make up for the loss of Gronk.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins will be without running back Damien Williams. So, Miami will need Kenyan Drake to pick up the slack and push his team to victory. The Dolphins will also be heavily relying upon Jarvis Landry, DeVante Parker, and Kenny Stills; one of the best-receiving trios in the NFL.

Excited about tonight’s game between the Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots? Look below and find out what you need to know so you can live stream tonight’s show on your TV, PC, tablet or mobile device.

Texas A&M Instituting “Sexual Assault Training” For Incoming Freshman

Texas A&M University has decided to require students from all levels and campuses to take part in mandatory online sexual assault training program called Haven.

According to A&M officials, Haven is an online training module for students, faculty, and staff to help educate about and prevent sexual assault. Tracey Canalog, the Program Director at Sexual Assault Resource Center at A&M, worked together on the training as part of the sexual assault survivors services committee led by Kristin Harrell.

The Haven training program will teach students what they should do in the case they see something happening or they themselves are involved in such events and follows the Green Dot training modules already on campus.

via The Battalion:

“A lot of people don’t know what is really available to them, they don’t know the rights that victims of violent crimes have…so part of this training is to let the students, faculty and staff know that there are resources both on and off campus,” Canalog said.

Heaven follows about the resources available to them and how to help their fellow Aggies.

“There’s a lot of great things happening on campus to reduce risk, but also these are some things you can do as a friend,” Canalog said. “That way if they turn to you and say ‘this is what has happened to me, I don’t know what to do’ that you as their friend would be able to point them in the right direction as well.”

According to Texas A&M, the Haven training is given in two parts, with a mandatory 30-day break in between.

Failure to complete the training will result in a registration hold being placed on the student’s account.

Yale Replacing Traditional Phrases Like “Freshman” With Gender Neutral Terms

I would like to meet someone who is outraged by the phrase “upperclassman” or “freshman”. If you are one of those people, please email me at eric.italiano@teamcoed.com to explain to me how on Earth you have the time or energy to be upset about the word freshman.

Sounds ridiculous, right? Well, apparently f*cking not, because Yale University has now joined the growing list of schools that are doing away with such phrases for more “gender-neutral” terms.

Look, I’m all for sexual identity (not sure if that’s the proper nomenclature, but roll with me). You want to be gender non-binary? Be gender non-binary. You want to be both a male and a female? Go ahead. Want to get plastic surgery to turn yourself into a purple giraffe? None of my business. But at what point is the gender-neutralization of benign terms become ridiculous? I understand the whole bathroom thing, I really do, but if you have an issue with the word “upperclassman”, that’s a you problem, not an us problem — that’s just facts.

via Fox News:

Yale University has kicked off the new school year by officially scrapping the terms “freshman” and “upperclassman” and replacing them with the gender-neutral terms “first year” and “upper-level students.”

“It’s really for public, formal correspondence and formal publications … we’re not trying to tell people what language to use in their everyday casual conversations,” Dean Marvin Chun told the school newspaper. “We’re not trying to be language police.”

Chun applauded the “modern” terms, saying he hopes they will be used exclusively in all communications by next academic year. Rumblings for more inclusivity began last year, and by spring administrators began using the new terms.

Cornell University, Columbia University and Dartmouth College have all inched away from the old labels in official documents as well.

You just watch — give it another 5 or so years and we’ll be debating whether we should rename “mankind” — that’s where we’re headed at this rate.

Ed Lee, the mayor of San Fransisco, died at 65-years-old after an unexpected heart attack. Lee, a well-respected civil rights lawyer, was the first Asian-American to be elected as mayor of San Francisco.

Lee’s office released a statement on Tuesday morning, saying “It is with profound sadness and terrible grief that we confirm that Mayor Edwin M. Lee passed away on Tuesday, December 12 at 1:11 a.m. at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. Family, friends and colleagues were at his side.”

According to Brent Andrew, a spokesman for the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, said Lee arrived at the hospital in an ambulance at about 10 PM on Monday night.

Ed Lee Cause Of Death: Heart Attack

Lee, the 65-year-old Mayor of San Fransisco, died of an unexpected heart attack on Tuesday, December 12.

Lee became the Mayor of San Fransisco in 2011 after he was appointed by the Board of Supervisors to fill the mayoral seat vacated by Gavin Newsom. Initially reluctant to be mayor, Lee did eventually decide to run for for the seat, which he won in November 2011. He then went on to win re-election in 2015.

Born in Seattle in 1952, Lee was one of six children of Chinese immigrants who came to the United States in the 1930s. Lee’s mother was a seamstress and his father, a war veteran, died when Lee was just a teenager.

After receiving a scholarship from Bowdoin College, Lee moved to San Fransisco in 1975 to study law. The 43rd mayor of San Francisco, Lee was the first elected mayor of Chinese descent.

According to a statement from the mayor’s office, Board of Supervisors President London Breed became acting mayor of San Francisco, effective immediately.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Anita, his two daughters, Brianna and Tania, and his family,” the mayor’s office said in a statement.

Melinda McGillivray appeared on Megyn Kelly Today on the morning of Tuesday, December 12 to accuse President Donald Trump of groping her when she was 23-years-old.

According to McGillivray, who was interviewed by NBC host Megyn Kelly on her morning show NBC today, Trump groped her 13-years-ago in 2003 at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.

McGillivray claims that she was invited to attend a concert at President Trump’s Florida estate by her friend Ken Davidoff, who was working as a photographer at the event. In the interview, McGillivray says that she was backstage with Davidoff, Regis Philbin and his wife, Ray Charles, as well as President Trump and his wife, now the First Lady, Melania. Then, McGillivray says Trump groped her.

“The next thing you know, I felt a grab on my right side. I quickly turned to look at what this is, initially think this is Ken’s camera bag, but to my surprise it’s Donald. He’s standing a foot and a half away from me so his hand had to reach out and touch me,” McGillivray said.

McGillivray continued by saying that when she looked in President Trump’s direction, he was “looking stone cold” at Ray Charles. Kelly asks McGillivray to clarify, asking if President Trump “grabbed her rear end”. McGillivray responded:

“On the right side, so I turned to look up at him. And he’s just standing there, didn’t even acknowledge me, if he had accidentally nudged me he could have said excuse me, but he said nothing. He knew what he did and I could see it on his face, the look of guilt.”

McGillivray eventually got emotional, calling for an investigation by the ethics committee.

“This is a powerful position, this is a powerful man. I was scared, intimidated, hurt. I still feel the brunt of this situation, these circumstances,” she said.

President Trump has yet to respond to McGillivray’s allegations.
