Week 14, College Football Picks 2017: Spread & Predictions

LINCOLN, NE – OCTOBER 10: Nebraska Cornhuskers running back Devine Ozigbo #22 leaps over defensive tackle Conor Sheehy #94 of the Wisconsin Badgers during their game at Memorial Stadium on October 10, 2015 in Lincoln, Nebraska. (Photo by Eric Francis/Getty Images)

Easily the most intense and thrilling week in college football, conference championship contests give fans a multitude of marquee matchups that come with serious postseason implications. While the current Playoff picture arguably has the four best teams squaring off in January, these final games are essential in determining which programs are actually worthy of competing for a National Title. Although the end is in sight for the top four programs, these monumental affairs cannot be overlooked, particularly the contests that have two conference opponents facing off again (see TCU vs. Oklahoma). Will the current Playoff teams hold serve or is there still more chaos to come? Let’s find out.

Stanford Cardinal (12) vs. USC Trojans (10)

Defeating both Washington and Notre Dame in two of their last three games, the Cardinal more than earned a trip to the PAC-12 Championship Game. Even with quarterback K.J. Costello playing less than impressive throughout the season (has thrown more than two touchdown passes only once this season), the presence and sheer athleticism of running back Bryce Love (8.6 yards per rushing attempt) have allowed the Cardinal to be well-balanced and competitive more often than not. However, quarterback Sam Darnold has been slinging the ball much more accurately recently (has thrown just two interceptions in his last four games) and running back Ronald Jones II (6.3 yards per rushing attempt, 17 total touchdowns) has been fantastic throughout the season. While the Cardinal have a tremendous defense, trying to hold off both Darnold and Jones throughout an entire game will be tremendously difficult.

Final Score: Cardinal 27 Trojans 30 Spread: USC -3.5

Akron Zips vs. Toledo Rockets

Despite a 7-5 record, the Zips played well enough within their conference to clinch a spot in the MAC Championship Game. Although freshman quarterback Kato Nelson has started in just three games this season, his impressive mobility and ball-security skills (six touchdowns and one interception in three games) have kept the Zips competitive down the stretch. However, the Rockets have much more firepower on the offensive end as quarterback Logan Woodside (10 yards per pass attempt, 65.2 CMP%) and running back Terry Swanson (5.4 yards per rush attempt, 12 rushing touchdowns) have been electric this season. While the Zips should be pleased with how they played in the latter half the season to get them this far, the Rockets have a proficient offense that has proven to be a serious hassle for opposing defenses to stifle.

Final Score: Zips 17 Rockets 33 Spread: Toledo -21.5

Memphis Tigers (20) vs. Central Florida Knights (14)

The fact that the Tigers lone loss on the season was at the hands of the Knights is enough in and of itself to make this a highly contentious affair. However, given that both teams have highly prolific offenses, this should be a shootout for the ages. Tigers quarterback Riley Ferguson has been terrific when throwing the ball downfield (8.77 yards per pass attempt) and has thrown just eight interceptions on the season. Yet, for everything Ferguson has done well this season, Knights quarterback McKenzie Milton has been more exceptional in every passing category. Throwing 10.32 yards per pass attempt, Milton is a highly confident passer that rarely turns the ball over (six interceptions) and has the mobility skills to extend plays. While the connection between Ferguson and wideout Anthony Miller will keep this a close contest, the intelligence and consistency of Milton will ultimately win what should be a thrilling offensive affair.

Final Score: Tigers 38 Knights 45 Spread: UCF -10.0

North Texas Mean Green vs. Florida Atlantic Owls

One of the best seasons for North Texas in recent memory, the Mean Green have lived up to their namesake. Quarterback Mason Fine is a highly aggressive passer that is always in attack mode even after he throws a brutal interception. On top of that, the Mean Green have a prolific rusher in Jeffrey Wilson (6.5 per rush attempt, 16 touchdowns) that can both run and catch the football with impressive consistency. Although the Owls may not have a trusted passer, they have one of the most productive running backs in college football in Devin Singletary (6.6 yards per rush attempt, 27 touchdowns). Simply put, Singletary is a deadly scoring machine and a violent runner that has rushed under 100 yards only twice this season. While the Owls clearly have a superstar athlete in Singletary, the proven offensive versatility of the Mean Green gives them a slight edge in this contest.

Final Score: Mean Green 43 Owls 37 Spread: Florida Atlantic -10.5

TCU Horned Frogs (11) vs. Oklahoma Sooners (3)

A revenge game in every sense of the word, the Horned Frogs unquestionably remember what happened to their dominant defense against Baker Mayfield. With a Playoff berth most likely unattainable, quarterback Kenny Hill (66.6 CMP%) should be able to function effectively with a massive chip on his shoulder against a mediocre Sooners defense. However, what the Sooners lack in an intimidating defense, they more than compensate for it with a torrid offense led by the immensely talented albeit polarizing quarterback in Baker Mayfield (4097 passing yards, 11.84 yards per pass attempt, 71.4 CMP%). Aside from Mayfield, the Sooners offense is also fairly dependent on the abilities of running back Rodney Anderson (6.3 yards per rush attempt, 16 total touchdowns) as both a fearless rusher and reliable pass-catcher. Assuredly, this will be a much more competitive affair, but even with the Horned Hogs playing angry, the Sooners have too many weapons for TCU’s defense to hold in check.

Final Score: Horned Frogs 31 Sooners 39 Spread: Oklahoma -7.0

Georgia Bulldogs (6) vs. Auburn Tigers (2)

Another redemption game that should be far more competitive than the first matchup, the Bulldogs will certainly be more prepared for the Tigers. Although Bulldogs quarterback Jake Fromm cannot be expected to carry his team’s offense (19 touchdowns, five interceptions), he needs to be more confident when it comes to taking deep shots downfield. For the Tigers, their performance in this game most likely hinges on the health of gifted running back Kerryon Johnson (19 total touchdowns) who is still listed as day-to-day. However, even if the Tigers were without Johnson for this crucial contest, quarterback Jarrett Stidham looked poised and efficient against the best defense in the country last (75 CMP% against Alabama). Whether Johnson plays or not, this contest will be highly competitive and physical with Stidham making enough big plays to seal the victory and a place in the Playoff.

Final Score: Bulldogs 24 Tigers 28 Spread: Auburn -2.5

Fresno State Bulldogs (25) vs. Boise State Broncos

While the Bulldogs certainly felt a sense of elation when they defeated the Broncos at home last week, that emotion was certainly replaced with stoic determination shortly thereafter. As they have done all season, the Bulldogs defense locked down another opponent while quarterback Marus McMaryion did his part on offense (332 passing yards, two touchdowns against the Broncos). Although the Broncos defense could have done more last week against the Bulldogs, quarterback Brett Rypien has to be more involved in scoring plays for Boise State to have a chance in this upcoming affair (zero passing touchdowns last week). With such a quick turnaround against a familiar opponent, I believe the Broncos will make the proper adjustments to win what should be another hard fought and enticingly brutal game.

Final Score: Bulldogs 26 Broncos 29 Spread: Boise State -8.5

Miami Hurricanes (7) vs. Clemson Tigers (1)

After an embarrassing loss to Pittsburgh, the Hurricanes will look to play with a renewed sense of confidence especially after they benched quarterback Malik Rosier in the aforementioned affair. More importantly, running back Travis Homer cannot have another abysmal day rushing football as he did last week (seven rushing attempts for 12 yards against Pittsburgh). For the Tigers, their success in this contest will be predicated on the performance of their defensive line and the play of quarterback Kelly Bryant (12 touchdowns, six interceptions). While he may not be an efficient passer, his impressive athleticism allows him to be productive when a play breaks down (10 rushing touchdowns) and he possesses a strong enough arm to chuck the ball downfield. Even if Miami’s defense comes out hungry and aggressive early on, the lack of trust in Rosier combined with an inconsistent running game will ultimately prevent the Hurricanes from winning this contest.

Final Score: Hurricanes 20 Tigers 30 Spread: Clemson -9.5

Ohio State Buckeyes (8) vs. Wisconsin Badgers (4)

If the Buckeyes have serious intentions of winning this game, they will need the dynamic playmaking abilities of quarterback J.T. Barrett (33 passing touchdowns, nine rushing touchdowns). While Ohio State does have two impressive running backs in J.K. Dobbins (1190 rushing yards) and Mike Weber (10 rushing touchdowns), they will need the added dimension of Barrett to overcome the massive and tenacious defense of the Badgers (12 PAPG). Although the Badgers may not have a versatile quarterback, their tenacious running game led by Jonathan Taylor (seven yards per rush attempt) has carried this program to every vital victory this season. While betting against Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes may seem foolish, Ohio State has performed poorly against stout defensive lines (see Iowa) and will face one of if not the best overall defenses in the country.

Final Score: Buckeyes 19 Badgers 23 Spread: Ohio State -6.5

Martin Shkreli Is Currently Sitting In Prison & Says It’s “Not That Bad”

Martin Shkreli, AKA the Pharma Bro AKA the world’s biggest douche, who is currently awaiting sentencing for a fraud case, was thrown in jail back in September after he posted to social media asking his followers to procure a lock of Hillary Clinton’s hair. You know, Martin Shkreli things

Given his slight frame and general shit-eating grin, one would imagine that prison would be hell-on-Earth for a dude like Shkreli. Alas, the little-troll-that-could is still full of surprises, as apparently, he’s telling his friends that prison is not “that bad”.

Writing to his friend Lisa Whisnant, Shkreli describes prison as “not that bad”  and the “bright sides” it offers.

via New York Post:

The 34-year-old is spending his time mentoring fellow inmates, reading, playing chess — and learning to deal with sharing a small, cramped cell with a snoring roommate, pal Lisa Whisnant told The Post.

“Things are not THAT awful here,” inmate 87850-053 wrote to Whisnant, underlining “THAT” three times. “There are some bright sides. I am teaching these prisoners some new things and hopefully some ways to change their lives.”

Following the mixed verdict in August, Shkreli joked on his livestream that he’d be kicking back at “Club Fed” — playing basketball and Xbox.

According to Ms. Whisnant, Skreli is handling jail with “typical Shkreli style.”

He brings people together and shares his knowledge. Martin was meant to be a teacher. He loves it. He’s a natural.” Shkreli did admit, though, it’s not all fun and games.

“He says he has a small uncomfortable bed, and his sleep quality is very low,” shared Whisnant, who says she’s known the infamous internet troll for two years.

Shkreli’s also been subjected to “sorrowful stories,” he writes, such as a purported mobster crying in his room.

“There’s a lot of pain on these [prisoners] that people don’t see,” Whisnant said, regarding the alleged wiseguy’s whimpers. “He’ll be absolutely fine. He always is.”

Shkreli was tossed behind bars when Brooklyn federal Judge Kiyo Matsumoto took Facebook postings about Hillary Clinton as a solicitation for assault. Shkreli, in typical Shkreli fashion, tried to defend his actions under the guise of satire. Needless to say, Matsumoto was having none of it, as she revoked his $5 million bond and ordered him held until his January 16 sentencing.

Convicted on two counts of securities fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit securities fraud in August, Shrekli faces up to 20 years in prison.

All in all, it’s just another bonkers quote from the world’s most punchable face, which continues to lead me to believe that Shkreli’s one true goal in life is to be immortalized as the biggest troll who has ever lived.

She’s a true force on the catwalk…

But how much money has Candice collected? Let’s take a look, shall we?

Candice Swanepoel Net Worth as of 2017: $25 Million

Swanepoel has a total of $25 million worth of assets. She’s definitely loaded when it comes to that C.R.E.A.M. (check Wu-Tang Clan on YouTube for reference clarification). In 2016 alone, this Victoria’s Secret Angel was able to pull in a total of $7 million. Swanepoel just keeps stacking up more and more paper every year. In 2015, she pulled in $5 million, which made her the 8th highest-earning model according to Forbes (she also earned this distinction in 2016). In 2013, she took in $3.3 million. Similarly, between the years 2010 and 2011, this lovely angel made roughly $3 million from her modeling work.

Let’s see Swanepoel’s road to success…

1988 – 2010

Candice Swanepoel was born on October 20, 1988, in the village of Mooi River, Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. At only 15-years-old, the young Candice first broke into the world of fashion after being discovered by a modeling scout in a flea market in Durban. Candice quickly rose in the industry, landing multiple major contracts in Europe, while making about €5,000 euros a day.

Swanepoel first appeared on the runway for fashion companies such as Tommy Hilfiger and Dolce & Gabbana. She spent her years modeling in places like Milan, London, Paris, and South Africa.

In 2007, Swanepoel’s career really began to pick up after she signed with the world’s famous lingerie brand Victoria’s Secret. In 2010, she graduated to angel status within the company, making her the first South African model to hold this distinction.

In 2015, FHM ranked Swanepoel as #36 in their “100 Sexiest Women in the World” poll. That same year, she became engaged to longtime boyfriend Hermann Nicoli.

In 2016, Swanepoel gave birth to her first child, a baby boy named Anacã.

Most recently, this 29-year-old supermodel walked down the runway in Shanghai, China, for the 2017 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

Week 13, Fantasy Football Start ‘Em 2017: Who To Start This Week

As the fantasy football playoffs become ever more visible, successful teams will need to ensure that they have the stars and depth to compete against the top opponents in their leagues. Waiver wire acquisitions are now as essential as ever as fantasy participants can never have too many contingency plans. With bye weeks no longer a mitigating factor, fantasy owners can now exploit the sheer number of options that are available. At this point, competing teams should have well-established rosters that may need some fine-tuning over the coming weeks to become truly formidable.

Tyrod Taylor, QB, Buffalo Bills (vs. New England Patriots)

Despite not allowing more than 237 passing yards in their last five games, Tyrod Taylor has the arm and athleticism to keep New England’s defense on their heels. Although Taylor was benched two weeks ago, his points scored in his last two starts (18.12 vs. Chargers, 14.02 vs. Chiefs) are indicative of a player that is determined to earn his starting role every week. Although Taylor may not have a high ceiling, his established floor when he has started makes him very reliable against mediocre defenses.

Robby Anderson, WR, New York Jets (vs. Kansas City Chiefs)

One of the several fantasy assets emerging from the Jets, wide receiver Robby Anderson has scored a touchdown in five straight games and was phenomenal against a respected Carolina Panthers defense (six, receptions, 146 receiving yards, two touchdowns). With a career-high 10 targets last week, Anderson has clearly established himself as quarterback Josh McCown’s favorite receiver and is a potent deep threat on a consistent basis. Against a Chiefs defense that has been a shell of itself in recent weeks, Anderson should have another fantastic week as a starting fantasy weapon.

Alex Collins, RB, Baltimore Ravens (vs. Detroit Lions)

Averaging 17 carries over his last four games, Collins has gone from an unknown practice squad player to the Ravens starting running back. Scoring a touchdown in his last two games, Collins is now getting the requisite red zone reps needed to be viable starting running back in fantasy. Better still, Collins is now getting targets as a receiver, an ideal skill set for a trusted PPR player. Facing a Detroit Lions defense that has relinquished the sixth-most points to opposing running backs, Collins should continue to garner increased reps while receiving more opportunities in the red zone.

Jason Witten, TE, Dallas Cowboys (vs. Washington Redskins)

Since running back Ezekiel Elliot finally accepted his six-game suspension, the Cowboys offense has struggled mightily. However, against the banged-up defense of the Redskins, Dak Prescott and the Cowboys receiving corps should be more much efficient. While Jason Witten’s production as a fantasy player has been mostly anemic this year, he still has the hands to be a reliable target for a struggling Prescott. Although Witten’s target shares have fluctuated this season, he rarely drops passes that are thrown his way and he will have nice opportunity to be productive against a Redskins defense that has allowed a touchdown pass to opposing tight ends over their last five games.

Indiana High School Teacher Filmed Snorting Cocaine In Her Classroom

Samantha Cox, a 24-year-old high school English teacher in Indiana, has been charged one week after she was filmed by student snorting what appeared to be cocaine in her classroom. Cox was teaching at Lake Central High School.

Cox, a St. John, Indiana resident, was charged with felony drug possession and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia after the teens caught her using substances on Wednesday, November 22.

The 24-year-old English teacher was arrested after students secretly filmed her through the locked door cutting up the white, powdery substance on a binder at around 10:20 a.m. during a break in between classes. In the video recorded by students, Cox is seen turning her back to the door, leaning over, and snorting the powdered substance.

Responding officers searched Cox’s vehicle and found a glass pipe in the glove box and “multiple empty small pieces of tin foil and multiple torn open plastic baggies.”

via Chicago Tribune:

Officers were called to the high school, 8400 Wicker Ave., around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday after students reported to the principal they saw Cox with drugs in her classroom, court documents said. A student “had video of what appeared to be a teacher ‘snorting’ a line of an illegal substance,” according to the probable cause affidavit.

On Wednesday, police brought Igar, a K-9 officer, to Cox’s classroom on the second floor of the school where the dog alerted police to possible drugs in the center drawer of Cox’s desk, the affidavit states. After an assistant principal unlocked the drawer, police found “a clear tightly twisted bag with multiple small rolled up pieces of tin foil,” court records state. Police also found an “outer plastic wrap from a cigarette package” with rolled up tin foil pieces, as well as “a rolled up small piece of paper” that looked like a straw that a detective “knows to be used to ingest illegal narcotics through one’s nostril,” the affidavit states.

Police then told Cox she was being placed under arrest, according to court records. Cox complied, giving police her car keys and instructing them where her car was parked, the affidavit states.

While being questioned by police, Cox said that fell early that morning before she purchased the “dope cocaine” for $160 from a dealer. She told police she had been using narcotics since beginning college.

Cox was booked and released from Lake County Jail on the same day after posting $1,000 bond. She was released on her own recognizance.

Garrison Keillor Net Worth 2017: How Much Is Keillor Worth Now?

0
0

Longtime radio personality Garrison Keillor was fired from Minnesota Public Radio for alleged “improper behavior.” Keillor was the host of A Prairie Home Companion on Minnesota Public Radio from 1974 to 2016. The announcement of his firing comes only one day after The Washington Post published a new op-ed from Keillor, titled: “Al Franken should resign? That’s absurd.”

Besides his former role on public radio, Keillor was very prolific when it comes writing, as he released many novels and collections of poetry and short stories. He has also received many awards and distinctions, including an induction into the 1994 National Radio Hall of Fame. His radio show, A Prairie Home Companion won a 1980 Peabody Award. He also won a Grammy Award for his voice-recording of Lake Wobegon Days.

But after over thirty years on the radio and in books, how much money has Keillor collected over the years?

Garrison Keillor Net Worth as of 2017: $5 Million

Keillor has a total of $5 million worth of assets while pulling in a yearly average salary of $176,000. Besides his work on the radio and with writing, Keillor has also lent his voice to a variety of projects. He was a voice actor for Honda’s UK “the Power of Dreams” Campaign. He also voiced Walt Whitman a 1990 Civil War mini-series.

Let’s take a look at Keillor’s road to success leading to his current state of controversy…

1969 – Present

Instagram Photo

Garrison Keillor started off his career as a radio personality on Minnesota Educational Radio, which later transformed into Minnesota Public Radio. His weekday program A Prairie Home Entertainment quickly gained traction and stood out for the show’s eclectic music choice. At the same, Garrison was also submitting his short fiction to The New Yorker who published his first story “Local Family Keeps Son Happy” in September 1970.

Keillor debuted A Prairie Home Companion in 1974, known for its music and humor. He retired from the program after the 2015-2016 season, saying that “I have a lot of other things that I want to do. I mean, nobody retired anymore. Writers never retire. But this is my last season. This tour this summer is the farewell tour.”

He was also a well-received writer who released many notable works of fiction, including Leaving HomeWe Are Still HomeLake Wobegon Days, and many more.

Slate Magazine writer Sam Anderson called Keillor “very clearly a genius. His range and stamina alone are incredible—after 30 years, he rarely repeats himself—and he has the genuine wisdom of a Cosby or Mark Twain.” However, his “willful simplicity is annoying because, after a while, it starts to feel prescriptive. Being a responsible adult doesn’t necessarily mean speaking slowly about tomatoes.”

In 2007, Keillor won the John Steinbeck Award for capturing “the spirit of Steinbeck’s empathy, commitment to democratic values, and belief in the dignity of the common man.”

The famed radio personality announced on Wednesday that he had been fired from his job at Minnesota Public Radio for “inappropriate behavior,” but didn’t get into the details as to the nature of the accusations.

Keillor just said that he was fired for “a story that I think is more interesting and more complicated than the version MPR heard,” and “It’s some sort of poetic irony to be knocked off the air by a story, having told so many of them myself, but I’m 75 and don’t have any interest in arguing about this. And I cannot in conscience bring danger to a great organization I’ve worked hard for since 1969.”

Mom Drops Off Her Daughter At College & Immediately Goes To Chill With The Football Team

via @Avery_Leilani Twitter

We’ve all been there. Well, most of us at least (shout out to student loan debt!).

Its the first day of college and your folks are dropping you off once and for all. Mom is all emotional, Dad is bored AF, and you are just absolutely itching to get wasted. You set up your room as fast as humanly possible just so you can usher your pants out to the door and pop open that warm bottle of plastic handle vodka. You give your Dad a hug and your Mother a kiss goodbye before saying your final goodbye.

Then, a couple of minutes later, your phone lights up with a text from Mom. Usually, it’s an ‘I love you’, ‘I’m going to miss you’, or an ‘I’m so proud of you text.’

Usually.

For Texas State freshman Avery Leilani, her drop off day was a little different. Instead of heading home to spend her night missing her baby girl, Leilani’s mother made her way to the school’s football field. Then, this happened:

via NBC 4:

After dropping her daughter off on Monday, Leilani’s mom wasted no time seeing what all the fuss was about in San Marcos. She made headed to the football field and made new friends along the way.

Since posting the screenshots on social media, Leilani’s tweet, as of Wednesday morning, has been retweeted more than 85,000 times. It has also racked up more than 388,000 favorites and collected around 1,000 replies.

And of course, someone had to slap a Brazzers logo on it:

I see you, Mom. I know exactly what you were up to.

Chris Jericho Weighs Discusses The Rock’s Chances Of Becoming President (It’s Happening)

I’ve been on the “Rock for President” train longer than most. Back in 2015, when the Republican and Democratic primaries were ramping up, I was kicking around the idea of The People’s Champ become The Nation’s Leader. And apparently, none other than Chris Jericho agrees.

During an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show, Y2J said he thinks the Rock will eventually run for president of the United States, saying simply, “I honestly think The Rock will run for President’:

Jericho makes a good point, too, by saying that The Rock has similar skills as Donald Trump, except his actually kind, likeable, and a trustworthy man. As Jericho says, we’re in the age of “celebrity presidents” and I can’t think of the better one than Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

And the Rock is embracing is, too. Last summer, in an interview with GQ, Johnson said he was seriously considering a run at the Presidency:

Via GQ:

Last June, when The Washington Post published an op-ed suggesting he could be a viable candidate, Johnson posted a screen grab and gave the idea a boost. On Instagram, he called the Post piece “interesting” and “fun to read,” adding that “the most important thing right now is strong honest leadership from our current and future leaders of this country.”

Since then, Johnson tells me, he’s given the question more thought. “A year ago,” he says, “it started coming up more and more. There was a real sense of earnestness, which made me go home and think, ‘Let me really rethink my answer and make sure I am giving an answer that is truthful and also respectful.’ I didn’t want to be flippant—‘We’ll have three days off for a weekend! No taxes!’”

So, after all that consideration, Johnson doesn’t hesitate when I ask him whether he honestly might one day give up his life as the highest-paid movie star on earth—which is unquestionably easier, more fun, and more lucrative than being president of the United States—in order to run for office. “I think that it’s a real possibility,” he says solemnly.

Mark my words, it may not be 2020 (the dude has too much paper to stack), but by 2024, The Rock will be a legitimate Presidential candidate.

College Student “Owes” $200,000 To Charity After Her Tweet Goes Unexpectedly Viral

Danni Messina is just a regular Washington State University student who was looking to give back. She had no idea that “giving back” would eventually turn into a $200,000 tab.

Messina, a student at WSU, took to Twitter this weekend promising to donate 50 cents for every retweet and 25 cents for every favorite to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in nearby Seattle. Now, just four short days later, Messina’s tweet has racked up over 200,000 retweets and 465,000 likes.

‘This time of year is about giving – this year, I am giving back to St. Jude & the families who are supported by their amazing services,’ Messina wrote in the November 25 tweet.

Despite the astounding total, Messina is determined to stay true to her word, so the 19-year-old started a GoFundMe account on Sunday.

via CBS News:

“I tweeted because I had absolutely no idea there would be that much support around the idea,” she explained. “So, unfortunately, I don’t have the funds to support this, but here is a link to donate to one of the best hospitals there is.”

By Tuesday afternoon, Messina had received donations from 675 people for a total of more than $8,600. She set a goal of $50,000. Dozens of people commented on the GoFundMe page, sharing words of encouragement.

Messina was inspired to donate to St. Jude after learning her friend was spending Thanksgiving in the hospital with his grandmother. It’s also her sorority’s designated philanthropy. While Messina can’t come up with the $210,000 she promised, she hopes the effort will at least raise awareness for a good cause.

Messina said that she is “still in shock” and that she thinks it’s “so incredible that people are donating because they saw my tweet”.

Tommy Wiseau Net Worth 2017: How Much Is The Star of ‘The Room’ Worth?

0

Tommy Wiseau is an actor/film writer who has tried his hand in television as well. He was born on October 3 1955 in Poznań, Poland. Wiseau always had a passion for making movies and that lead him to create his first/most popular feature film The Room. The Room received mixed reviews to say the least, but it has remained in the main stream news for years after its release. In fact, Seth Rogen and James Franco are coming out with The Disaster Artist which is a movie based off all the trials and tribulations of the behind the scenes efforts that went into creating this captivating film.

Tommy Wiseau’s Net Worth as of 2017: $500 Thousand

Tommy Wiseau creator/star of The Room is worth an estimated $500 thousand. Wiseau, who funded production of The Room himself, has never been clear about where his fortune came from, something that is mentioned in the upcoming film The Disaster Artist.

2003-2004

Tommy Wiseau net worth

The Room was released 2003 and it is widely considered the worst movie ever made. Thats not something you usually want your name attached too but The Room has actually developed a huge following around the world. Wiseau still stands by the fact that this film is just misunderstood and is unfairly considered a “bad” movie.

Fun Fact: While Wiseau said that he got the funding for The Room by importing and selling leather jackets from South Korea, some crew members of The Room said that the money came from an organized crime money-laundering scheme, though Wiseau said that is highly unlikely.

In 2004 Tommy wrote, directed and produced ‘Homeless in America’ a film that went deep into the lives of those effected by the homelessness that is effecting america and all those who help them. This film showed a different side of Wiseau and hopefully opened a lot of peoples eyes to this growing problem.

Tommy has stayed busy in the entertainment industry despite falling out of the public eye for a few years. He attempted to start a TV show, The Neighbors (2015), But none of the networks picked it up after airing the pilot. But that didn’t stop Wiseau from continuing to work, He appeared in short films such as The House That Drips Blood, He also had roles in both Enter Samurai (2016) and Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance (2015). Most notably, he starred in Best F(r)iends (2017) along side Greg Sestero.

But the real reason Tommy Wiseau’s name has been and will be in the news the next few weeks is because of Seth Rogen and James Franco’s new film dissecting the behind the scenes look at The Room.

Dr. Richard Watson, a professor at the University of Georgia professor, has enacted what he calls “stress reduction policy.” The purpose of Watson’s policy is to allow students to “choose their own grades in hopes of soothing those who feel unduly stressed by their earned ones. ”

Professor Watson, who is teaching two business courses in the fall, has introduced the policy because he believes that the emotional reactions to the stressful situations of college scan have consequences for all involved.

According to Watson’s syllabi, students can “email the instructor indicating what grade the student think is appropriate.”

via Campus Reform:

If students feel “unduly stressed by a grade for any assessable material or the overall course,” they can “email the instructor indicating what grade [they] think is appropriate, and it will be so changed” with “no explanation” being required.

“If in a group meeting, you feel stressed by your group’s dynamics, you should leave the meeting immediately and need offer no explanation to the group members,” the policy adds, saying such students can “discontinue all further group work” with their remaining grade being “based totally on non-group work.”

Similarly, when it comes to “tests and exams” for Watson’s “Data Management” and “Energy Informatics” courses, all will be “open book and open notes” and “designed to assess low level mastery of the course material.”

Finally, for in-class presentations, Watson will allow “only positive comments” to be made, while “comments designed to improve future presentations will be communicated by email.

Watson is a Regents Professor at the University of Georgia. A Regents Professor is a title bestowed by the Board of Regents on “distinguished” faculty.

Matt Lauer, the former TODAY Show host, broke his silence on Thursday morning, one day after NBC fired him from “Today” over an allegation of sexual misconduct. NBC was paying Lauer $28 million per year.

Lauer, one of the highest-profile employees at the network for decades, released the following statement to NBC, which his former co-host Savannah Guthrie read on air during this morning’s TODAY Show:

“There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions. To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry. As I am writing this I realize the depth of the damage and disappointment I have left behind at home and at NBC.“Some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed. I regret that my shame is now shared by the people I cherish dearly.

“Repairing the damage will take a lot of time and soul searching and I’m committed to beginning that effort. It is now my full time job,” he added. “The last two days have forced me to take a very hard look at my own troubling flaws. It’s been humbling. I am blessed to be surrounded by the people I love. I thank them for their patience and grace.”

Lauer was fired on Wednesday, November 29 for what NBC called “inappropriate sexual behavior” with a colleague was quickly followed by a published report accusing him of crude and habitual misconduct with other women around the office.

In a memo to NBC News staff, NBC chief Andrew Lack said that NBC received a complaint about Lauer’s behavior on Monday night and determined he violated company standards. NBC said the misconduct started when Lauer and a network employee were at the Sochi Olympics in 2014 and continued beyond that assignment. While Lack said that it was the first complaint lodged against Lauer in his 20 years at NBC, they (NBC) “were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident.”

NBC News received two new complaints against Lauer on Wednesday, “NBC Nightly News” reported.

According to an extensive report from Variety, Lauer “had a button under his desk that allowed him to lock his door from the inside without getting up” and once “gave a colleague a sex toy as a present.”

Disney Casts The Lead Role In The Live-Action ‘Mulan’ Remake

Chinese actress Liu Yifei, more well-known by her stage name Crystal Liu, has been picked to star as the titular character in Disney’s live-action adaptation of the classic Chinese tale Mulan.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney’s team of casting directors visited five continents and saw nearly 1,000 candidates for the role. The actress needed to possess credible martial arts skills, the ability to speak English and, of course, “star quality”.  THR reports that in deference to cultural accuracy, the studio focused on locating an ethnically Chinese young woman to play Hua Mulan, who disguised herself as a man to take her father’s army conscription in 5th century China.

via THR:

In Liu, Disney found the complete package. Nicknamed “Fairy Sister” by the Chinese public for her pure and innocent looks and image, she has been one of the country’s most popular actresses of the current generation since breaking out with a series of hit television dramas in the mid-2000s, while she was still a teenager enrolled in the Beijing Film Academy. Liu is fluent in English, having lived in Queens, N.Y., for part of her childhood, and acted in English in both 2008’s The Forbidden Kingdom, alongside Jackie Chan and Jet Li, and 2014’s Outcast, opposite Nicolas Cage and Hayden Christensen. She also starred opposite Emile Hirsch in Danish auteur Bille August’s period romance The Chinese Widow, which opened the Shanghai International Film Festival in June.

Liu, who has served as a brand ambassador for Dior, Tissot, Garnier and Pantene, most recently starred in the fantasy romance Once Upon a Time, which earned $82.3 million in China this summer. Her other credits include 2012’s The Assassins, which earned Liu her first major acting award (at the Macau International Movie Festival), Never Gone and The Four trilogy. She recently signed with WME and continues to be repped by Chinese manager David Chen.

Disney’s live-action Mulan remake is being directed by Niki Caro, who most recently helmed The Zookeeper’s Wife.

Thus far, Disney has made live-action versions of classics such as Alice In Wonderland, Maleficent, Cinderella, The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast. Live-action remakes of The Lion King, Dumbo, Aladdin, Christopher Robin, The Little Mermaid, Snow White, and Mulan are also in the works.

Stephanie Kemplin Photos: Full Story & Must-See Details of Al Franken Accuser

Stephanie Kemplin, a 41-year-old Ohio Army veteran, claims that Senator Al Franken groped her in December 2003, telling CNN that while she was deployed in Kuwait, the Minnesota Democrat cupped her breast during a photo op.

Kemplin, a 41-year-old resident of Maineville, Ohio, is now the fifth woman in two weeks to accuse Franken of inappropriate touching and the second woman to allege that it happened while Franken was on a USO tour. Three of the five women have been identified by name. In addition to Kemplin, Leeann Tweeden and Lindsay Menz have also accused Franken of groping.

Speaking to CNN, Kemplin said that while she was stationed in the Middle East during the Iraq War, she met Franken while he was visiting troops with the USO.

“When he put his arm around me, he groped my right breast. He kept his hand all the way over on my breast. I’ve never had a man put their arm around me and then cup my breast. So he was holding my breast on the side,” Kemplin said.

Kemplin said Franken’s inappropriate touching lasted anywhere from five to 10 seconds and that she eventually turned her body to remove Franken’s hand off her breast before the picture was taken.

Franken released a statement on Monday, November 27, saying that he is going to be “a lot more sensitive, and a lot more careful”. Franken said he does not plan on resigning from his Senate seat. He intends to fully comply with the Senate ethics investigation into his conduct.

Cari Champion Instagram: Best Photos & Must-See Pictures

Of all the stupid, illogical choices that ESPN has made over the last couple of years, the worst decision of them all was to put Cari Champion on the 12 PM Sportscenter while everyone is at work and school.

Easily both the most talented and best-looking personality Sportscenter has to offer, Champion should have been moved to a primetime position years ago. ESPN seems to finally be wisening up, as rumors suggest Champion will be taking over for Michelle Beadle when she leaves to co-host Mike Greenberg’s new ESPN morning show.

Champion, who is 42-years-old (what?!?!? I thought she had just barely cracked 30) was a reporter for the Tennis Channel and the host of First Take before she became an anchor for the noon hour of Sportscenter. In college, Champion majored in English and minored in mass communications at UCLA while also writing for the Daily Bruin.

Hopefully, the rumors of ESPN are true and Champion takes over a primetime shift ASAP because we all deserve more of her in our lives.

ETSU Fraternity Suspended For Remainder Of School Year Due To Alcohol-Related Incident

Eastern Tennessee State University has suspended its Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter for the remainder of the school year. This is the second time that the fraternity has been suspended in the last year.

The suspension comes after the completion of an investigation into a February incident where the fraternity had an unregistered party and a student was sent to the hospital due to an alcohol-related incident.

Furthermore, school administrators said that following the investigation, the fraternity faced judicial charges. During a March meeting, the university’s Judicial Board then suspended the fraternity for the rest of the semester.

Via WJHL:

The suspension means the fraternity can’t do things like hold meetings or recruit members. Dr. Jeff Howard, Associate Vice President of Student Engagement said the fraternity does not have an extensive history of trouble.

“This chapter has a very small conduct record, there has not been a lot during the duration of their time at the university so it’s been a while, they were in good standing before this occurred,” Dr. Howard said.

However, Howard said the fraternity is complying with the educational sanctions, and that based on their actions, he believes they could return to good standing for the fall semester.

ETSU also placed fraternity Pi Kappa Alpha on interim suspension in November of 2016 for a similar violation involving an unregistered party that involved alcohol.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon History

Sigma Alpha Epsilon was founded by Noble Leslie DeVotie, Nathan Elams Cockrell, John Barratt Rudulph, John Webb Kerr, Samuel Marion Dennis, Wade Hampton Foster, Abner Edwin Patton, and Thomas Chappell Cook on March 9, 1856 at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Not only did DeVotie have the coolest name of the bunch, but he was also the leader.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon grew rapidly, as they had their first national convention in 1858. They expanded north of the Mason-Dixon line for the first time in 1883, establishing a chapter at Pennsylvania College (now Gettysburg College). They’ve since grown to have chapters in all 50 states. In March of 2014, Sigma Alpha Epsilon eliminated pledging, becoming the first large national fraternity to do so.
