Video has surfaced of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones making a racial comment to a fan in a Dallas, Texas hotel after the man asked for a congratulatory message for his new fiancée.

According to The Blast, the video was taken in 2013 at the Warwick Melrose Hotel in Dallas, Texas. Jones is walking near the bar and appears to be heading out of the hotel.

The video release comes as Jones is preparing to sue the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell over the Ezekiel Elliot suspension.

A massive fire has been ignited through a six-story building in Hamilton Heights, requiring the need of 100 firefighters for help.

The fire broke around 3:30 PM at Broadway and West 144th St. With over 100 firefighters trying to control the situation, it appeared that wind had made the fire harder to maintain. Black smoke could reportedly be seen from the area miles away.

So far, no injuries or casualties connected to the fire are known. There is also no word on what could have caused the fire.

Update: According to Patch, the fire instigated a four-alarm response, which could mean around 170 firefighters could have responded to the scene. ABC News later clarified that over 170 firefighters had been on the scene.

Daily Mail later clarified that there had been over 200 firefighters on the scene, with two enduring non-life-threatening injuries. As of 5 PM, the fire had not yet been contained.

“It doesn’t seem like it’s gas related because there would have been a huge explosion,” conveyed resident Jose Tavarez, “I’m not even worried about the building itself, I’m worried about the people that live there. These things can be replaced, material things, but a human life can’t,” according to CBS. It was also later clarified that the fire was at the five-alarm level, not four.

New York Daily News also confirmed at least one person, a resident, was rushed to a local hospital with smoke inhalation. “My friend, his mom was crying she thought her kids were in there. She was having an anxiety attack,” said Nicole Manard, according to the publication, “There was fire everywhere. It looked like it was in the trees, in the scaffolding.”

The U.S. House of Representatives just passed a bill that may make life a lot harder for graduate students. An overwhelming majority of Republicans in the House pushed forward the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act which is aimed at “dramatically reducing corporate and individual income taxes.” But what’s hidden in the bill is something that could actually cripple graduate research in the United States…

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act repeals Section 117(d)(5) of the current tax code, meaning that graduate student tuition waivers will now be taxed, creating a larger tax burden for graduate students receiving these waivers.

One M.I.T. student wrote an article for the The New York Times, explaining how many graduate students benefit off of Section 117(d)(5), which doesn’t tax the tuition waivers of graduate students. Without this provision, their waivers would be taxed, which will deeply impact the students who aren’t independently wealthy.

Erin Rousseau is a graduate student at M.I.T., studying the neurological basis for mental health disorders. She works between 40 and 80 hours a week as a classroom teacher and laboratory researcher. The tuition waiver keeps students like Erin from paying about $50,000 a year. But since Section 117(d)(5) has been repealed, that waiver will now be taxed. This means that M.I.T. graduate students will need to pay taxes on an $80,000 annual salary when they actually make $33,000 a year. As a result, the tax burden for these graduate students will increase by at least $10,000 annually.

All graduate tuition waivers are now taxed, making life in college much more expensive and difficult. Ironically, a bill called “Tax Cuts and Jobs Act” actually created a hefty tax for those working hard to get a better job.

We got a chance to talk one-on-one with NBA all-star Damian Lillard. Through Adidas, Damian got involved with this year’s Week of Greatness. The Foot Locker charity program focuses on a different cause each year. The 2017 campaign aims to help provide clothing and shoes for the victims of Hurricane Maria.

The Portland Trail Blazers athlete told COED about his engagement with different communities in Portland and beyond, including Puerto Rico and his hometown of Oakland, California. Lillard personally donated thousands of pairs of shoes to help the people of Puerto Rico. Hurricane Maria hit the country on September 20 but much of the island still remains without power or clean water. Heavy rainfall and flooding continue to hurt the citizens of Puerto Rico, making the need for protective footwear more and more crucial as time goes on.

We also got the chance to talk about this year’s basketball season, which is still in the early stages. Damian seems excited about the Blazers’ current position (fifth in the West, FYI) and the opportunity for them to establish themselves as one of the top teams in the league. What has been his biggest surprise this season? “Just how even it is across the board,” Damian says. “I think there’s maybe three teams right now who got off to a hot start, the rest is pretty even.” Last year, Portland snuck into the playoffs after catching fire late in the season to secure the eighth seed. If they can start the season strong, this team can make serious waves this year.

Damian stresses the importance of securing a home court advantage this year. He also wants to make sure that we know he isn’t afraid hof the Golden State Warriors, the team who knocked him out of the playoffs twice in his career.

His professional concerns aren’t limited to the basketball court. Damian also cares deeply for his aforementioned hometown of Oakland. Within the next four years, two major sports teams, the Raiders and Warriors, will be leaving the city to move elsewhere and Damian has been very outspoken about the impact this will have on the city. “It’s unfortunate because those sports teams mean so much to the city and bring a certain level of positivity with all that goes on in the city,” Lillard says. “I hate to see it.”

The development of this young team relies on Damian Lillard. While his team sits among the top of its conference, Lillard continues to make strides as a leader on and off the court.

On Friday, Patrick spoke at a news conference at Homestead-Miami Speedway and confirmed her retirement for next year. She said, “It just came from my heart, and I think it’s going to be awesome.”

Patrick recently spoke with the Associated Press and told them that it took many months for her to come to the realization that her career is coming to an end. She has set the 2018 Indianapolis 500 as her swan song.

“Nothing that was being presented excited me, then about three weeks ago, I just blurted out, ‘What about Indy? Let’s end it with the Indy 500,”’ she told the AP. “This ignites something in me. But I am done after May. Everyone needs to put their mind there. My plan is to be at Indy, and then I’m done.”

Danica Patrick first garned national attention when she raced in the 2005 Indy 500, becoming the fourth woman ever to compete in that race. In 2018, she’ll call it quits in the same race that helped make her famous.

Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas has sparked outrage online from a social media comment suggesting that women who dress provocatively/sexually “entice the wrong crowd.” Her Olympic teammate Simone Biles has blasted Douglas for her statements online. Douglas has since responded saying that she didn’t word her comment correctly and “regardless of what you wear, abuse under any circumstance is never acceptable.”

What Happened?

It all started when 2016 Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman went public with sexual abuse allegations against ex-Team USA doctor Larry Nassar. Raisman received a hateful response from some people on social media, denying her claims simply because she has posed provocative photos in the past. On Friday morning, Raisman took to social media and wrote, “Just because a woman does a sexy photo shoot or wears a sexy outfit does not give a man the right to shame her or not believe her when she comes forward about sexual abuse.”

Then…Gabby Douglas added her two cents to Raisman’s social media conflict. Douglas wrote, “However it is our responsibility as women to dress modestly and be classy. Dressing in a provocative/sexual way entices the wrong crowd.”

When Biles saw Douglas’ response, she was stunned. “Shocks me that I’m seeing this but it doesn’t surprise me… honestly seeing this brings me to tears bc as your teammate I expected more from you & to support her,” said Biles. “I support you Aly & all the other women out there!  STAY STRONG.

Who is Gabby Douglas?

She is an American artist gymnast born on December 31, 1995, in Newport News, Virginia. At the age of sixteen in 2012, Gabby Douglas became a 2-time Olympic gold medalist, as she won both the individual all-around and team competitions. She was an all-around silver medalist at the 2015 World Championships. At the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, she was a member of the gold-winning American team. Douglas won another gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the team competition.

The 21-year-old gymnast was also the 2016 AT&T American Cup all-around champion.

Researchers from Rhino Labs, a Seattle-based network vulnerability firm, have discovered a flaw with the Amazon Key that could potentially be taken advantage of by criminals.

Rhino Labs produced a demonstration video showing how things can be exploited

The issue comes from Amazon Key’s way of granting drivers access to a client’s home, using an app to unlock doors, while recording the whole scene with a web-connected camera. A bug in the software, however, could allow hackers to freeze the image shown on the door while being securely closed, which can allow things to be taken without being recorded.

This comes out because temporarily taking the camera offline, which can be as long as the hacker keeps sending their command, causes Amazon’s Cloud Cam responds by freezing on the final frame that had been filmed. Reportedly, the freezing flaw is a common issue among gadgets that make use of WiFi.

The product, which costs around $249.99, is only available in 37 cities, with surrounding areas, across the United States. Although it is believed that Amazon hopes to expand the service’s reach, it is currently unknown if the program would be expanded upon outside of the country.

Amazon’s response: ‘We will deploy an update to more quickly provide notifications’

Rhino Labs founder Ben Caudill explained that,

“The camera is very much something Amazon is relying on in pitching the security of this as a safe solution.

Disabling that camera on command is a pretty powerful capability when you’re talking about environments where you’re relying heavily on that being a critical safety mechanism.

As a partially trusted Amazon delivery person, you can compromise the security of anyone’s house you have temporary access to without any logs or entries that would be unusual or suspicious.”

According to Wired, a spokesperson for Amazon has stated that the company has been made aware of the issue and explained how they planned to address it.

“We currently notify customers if the camera is offline for an extended period.

Later this week, we will deploy an update to more quickly provide notifications if the camera goes offline during delivery.”

After 11 weeks of college football, there is a contest between two underachieving Big 12 teams. These teams are the Texas Longhorns and the West Virginia Moutaineers. Both teams started the season with similar goals and that has remained true as the season has progressed. Texas was ranked in the AP preseason top 25 rankings and was expected to compete for a quality bowl game under coach Tom Herman. However, Texas lost four of their first seven games which means that there is a slim chance that this program will not even qualify for a bowl game this season. As for West Virginia, the Moutaineers were also in the AP preseason top 25 rankings. However, the Mountaineers have already lost three games and are looking to reenter the top 25 rankings.

Texas’ season has been quite unpredictable to say the least. The Longhorns started the season in the top 25 but were upset by Maryland in the first game of the season. Many experts believed that Texas’ season was over but Texas remained extremely competitive in the following weeks. The main issue for the Longhorns this season has been inconsistent quarterback play from both Shane Buechele and Sam Ehlinger. Buechele was benched earlier in the season for a few games but was renamed the starting quarterback a few weeks ago. Since become the starter again, Buechele has thrown for three touchdowns and two interceptions along with over 750 yards passing in three games. If Texas hopes to win this game, Buechele will need to have a big game.

West Virginia’s season can be summed up in one word. Inconsistent. A team that entered the season with Big 12 title hopes has already been eliminated from contention within its first ten games of the season. The main reason for the team’s struggles is its defense. West Virginia is giving up over 29 points per game which has put a tremendous amount of pressure on the offense to produce constantly.

West Virginia’s success is primarily due to Will Grier. So far this season, Grier has thrown for 34 touchdowns and over 3400 yards along with 12 interceptions. Grier transferred from Florida after one season in 2015 and has looked great with this Moutaineers team. If West Virginia looks to defeat this conference foe, Grier will need to have a great game.

As for my prediction, I have to side with West Virginia. With the home field advantage, I expect Grier to have a great game and to lead this team to a much needed victory against Texas.

After 11 weeks on the college football season, there is an extremely important Big Ten game between Michigan and Wisconsin. Wisconsin’s season started with extremely high expectations. The Badgers were in the preseason top ten according to the AP poll. Currently, the Badgers are ranked fifth in the country and boast an undefeated record. Meanwhile, the Michigan Wolverines are currently 8-2 and are looking for a huge win to potentially put them back in the top 20.

Wisconsin’s success so far this season is due, in large part, to freshman running back Jonathan Taylor. Taylor has looked amazing this season with 1525 yards rushing and 12 rushing touchdowns. Taylor entered the season behind both Bradrick Shaw and Chris James on the depth chart but became the undisputed starter after his amazing 223 yard performance against Florida Atlantic back in early September. Taylor’s success has also led to more opportunities in the passing game via play-action passes which could lead to some big passing plays against overly aggressive defenses.

Michigan’s season started with a ton of uncertainties. Michigan lacked experience in the majority of its defense and experts were concerned about how quickly these players would adapt to college level competition. Michigan’s defense responded and is currently ninth in all of college football in points allowed per game. At the moment, the biggest concern for the Wolverines is starting quarterback Brandon Peters. Since becoming the starter, Peters has looked solid and has thrown four touchdowns along with zero interceptions. However, Peters is still a sophomore quarterback but has only played in four games in his college career. One has to wonder how sharp he will look against a top five team on the road.

As for my prediction, I tentatively side with Wisconsin. I think that Wisconsin’s defense will keep Peters in check as Taylor leads the Badgers with over 100 yards rushing. I think it will be a low scoring game where the Badgers win by about a field goal.

After 11 weeks of college football, there is a contest between two ACC teams who have exceeded preseason expectation. These teams are the Miami Hurricanes and the Virginia Cavaliers. Both teams started the season with bowl game expectations but no one expected Miami to be competing for a national championship. Virginia was expected to make a bowl game this season and that goal has already been reached. With both teams seeking to improve their resume, expect this game to be closer than people think.

The Miami Hurricanes entered the season with several question marks. The largest issue was the departure of starting quarterback Brad Kaaya. Kaaya, in his college career, had 69 touchdown passes and over 9,000 yards passing. Replacing him was going to be extremely difficult for the Hurricanes until they stumbled upon junior quarterback Malik Rosier. So far this season, Rosier has 20 touchdown and only four interception. His mobility and throwing accuracy are a lethal combo that helps keep defenses on their toes whenever he touches the ball. If Miami plans on winning this home game, Rosier will need to play extremely well. This game is especially important for Miami considering the fact that Miami needs to win out in order to make the college football playoff.

Virginia’s success is due to quarterback Kurt Benkert. This season, Benkert has thrown for 21 touchdowns and only seven interception. Benkert’s accuracy is a huge reason for the team’s success and that trend will need to continue if the Cavaliers plan on pulling off this upset. Another reason for their success is their deep receiving corps. Virginia has several receivers with multiple touchdowns and over 500 yards receiving this season.

As for my prediction, I have to side with Miami. Rosier looks like a solid quarterback and I expect Miami to roll against an inferior foe. This team just destroyed Notre Dame last week and I expect that momentum to carry over.

Malcolm Young, who co-founded the Australian rock band AC/DC, has died at the age of 64. As the band confirmed on an official Facebook page this Saturday, he had suffered dementia for several years.

Young ‘passed away peacefully with his family’

“Today it is with deep heartfelt sadness that AC/DC has to announce the passing of Malcolm Young,” the band confirmed on Facebook, although where he died was not mentioned.

Some of the band’s hits include ‘Highway to Hell’ and ‘Thunderstruck’

It was added that he “passed away peacefully with his family by his bedside.” He is survived by his brother, Angus. Another brother, George, who had served as a producer for the band, died this previous October.

A native of Scotland, Young and his family moved to Austrailia in 1963. Founding the band with his brother Angus, Malcolm Young was a songwriter, backing vocalist and guitarist for AC/DC, which was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2003. Their hits include the 1979 song, Highway to Hell, the 1980 song, Back in Black, and the 1990 song, Thunderstruck.

Notre Dame and Navy will have another milestone in their rivalry as they are set to face off this Saturday in South Bend, Indiana.

Notre Dame’s Fighting Irish team have just endured a 41-8 loss against Miami, but the team has already doubled its win total from last year at 8-2. The Midshipmen recently won a 43-40 contest against SMU, which finally helped break a three-game losing streak. When our idols die, we like to symbolically keep them close by watching their games or shows, with some fans going so far as to purchase belongings that they have left behind. One fan decided to do just that by purchasing the late Aaron Hernandez’s Massachusetts home, costing $1 million.

The house was purchased for $500,000 less than its original price

The 5,647 sq ft home is located in North Attleboro and was listed for sale before the NFL star had taken his own life in jail. Hernandez listed it for sale back in March 2016 for $1.5 million after being convicted of the murder of his friend Odin Lloyd three years before. Beforehand, a deal to sell it had not materialized.

The fan who purchased the property is Arif Khan, a real estate investor and Patriots fan. Being in real estate, he intends to sell the property for $1.4 million by the end of next year, having purchased the property for $500,000 less than its original price, reportedly with the help of his father.

At this time, it is not clear what the price Hernandez paid to purchase the house to begin with. This house was notably where Hernandez lived at the time of Lloyd’s death, becoming a focal point during the murder trial. Surveillance footage at the house, from cameras Hernandez owned, caught Hernandez at home with a gun, as well as capturing footage of Shaynna Jenkins removing a box wrapped in a garbage bag at his request after he was arrested for Lloyd’s murder in 2014.

The house remained on the market for over a year, likely in part due to the stigma of the murder case. When Hernandez was charged with the additional murders of Safiro Furtado and Daniel de Abreu, his attorneys brought the asking price down to $1.3 million; the asking price went down further to $1.2 million earlier this year.

‘I feel a name change and a little upgrade on the property will increase its value’

While the controversy may have scared off some buyers, Khan is not intimidated. “Nobody wants to buy a house with Aaron Hernandez’s name on it, but I feel a name change and a little upgrade on the property will increase its value. It was a very cheaply priced property for what it is and the location is spectacular because of its size and proximity to the nearby Patriots stadium,” Khan explained in a statement with Daily Mail.

Partridge Family star David Cassidy has been placed in an induced coma, with his family being told to prepare for the worst less than a year it was revealed he had been diagnosed with dementia.

The actor was said to be in need of a liver transplant earlier this week

Cassidy had previously been rushed to a hospital in Flordia three days ago. In addition, he is suffering from multiple organ failures, with his family being told to prepare for the worst, with them currently gathered at his bedside.

For many, David Cassidy is best known for playing Keith Partridge in The Partridge Family, a sitcom focusing on a widowed mother and her five children starting a pop-music career. The fictional family’s matriarch, Shirley Partridge, was played by Cassidy’s real-life stepmother, Shirley Jones. The show’s popularity helped to showcase Cassidy’s singing and painted him as a teen idol, eventually helping him launch a career as a musician.

Back in February, the actor revealed he had been fighting with dementia for two years after falling on stage during a concert. Cassidy also appeared on The Dr. Phil Show to discuss his condition.

Cassidy’s mother, Evelyn Ward, also battled with dementia

Cassidy’s condition is likely hereditary, as his mother, Evelyn Ward, had also suffered from dementia, until her death at 89 in 2012. “In the end, the only way I knew she recognized me is with one single tear that would drop from her eye every time I walked into the room. … I feared I would end up that way,” Cassidy said, according to Daily Mail.

Update: According to People, Cassidy is currently diagnosed with liver and kidney failure and is in critical condition. A rep had said that he was in need of a liver transplant earlier this week.

With 11 weeks of college football in the books, there is a clash between two programs from the Pac-12. The UCLA Bruins are currently 5-5 and are looking to clinch a spot in a bowl game this season. UCLA has won one their its last three games and is looking for a victory over their in-state rival. As for USC, the Trojans are currently 9-2 with their both losses coming at the hands of ranked foes. Both teams are practically eliminated from college football playoff picture but a win against a state rival is always priceless.

The UCLA Bruins started off their season with an insane comeback victory against Texas A&M and a dominating performance against Hawaii. However, the team has struggled since then due to the abysmal performance of its defense. UCLA’s defense gives up over 38 points per game and is one of the worst teams in all of college football at stopping the run. UCLA’s defense has gotten exposed time and time again in conference play and could easily get exposed again on Saturday by this USC offense.

UCLA’s success is due to star quarterback Josh Rosen. So far this season, Rosen has thrown for 21 touchdowns and only nine interceptions along with over 3,000 yards passing in just nine games. Rosen entered the season with the hopes of being a top pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. If Rosen continues to play like he has this season, he will be a lock to be selected in the top five picks of the 2018 NFL Draft.

USC’s success is due to star quarterback Sam Darnold. Last season, Darnold threw for 31 touchdowns and over 3000 yards. Darnold was the catalyst for the Rose Bowl victory over Penn State as he threw for over 450 yards and five touchdowns. However, Darnold has had some turnover issues this season. Despite throwing for 24 touchdowns this season, he has also thrown 11 interceptions. With UCLA’s potent offense, Darnold cannot afford to turn the ball over and give Josh Rosen more possessions.

As for my prediction, I have to side with USC. Although Rosen is a great quarterback, I think that USC is the better all-around team. I expect UCLA’s defense to give up a ton of points as USC wins in convincing fashion.
