Mahad Abdiaziz Abdirahaman has been arrested after two men were stabbed at the Mall of America in Minnesota during what police called an ‘interrupted theft’. The 20-year-old suspect is currently in custody.

According to Bloomington police, the incident happened Sunday night in the first-floor dressing room area of the Macy’s department store. Reportedly, the first victim was stabbed after he returned to the dressing room and confronted Mahad Abdiaziz Abdirahaman, of Minneapolis, who was allegedly attempting to steal his belongings.

Furthermore, a second victim was also stabbed trying to stop the initial theft and stabbing.

Police say both stabbing victims suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The Mall of America was not placed on lockdown, as Deputy Chief Mike Hartley said the rest of the patrons were not in any danger.

via CBS:

Bloomington police responded to Macy’s at the Mall of America at about 6:44 p.m. on a report of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they learned the incident started after a theft was interrupted.

Police say the stabbing happened in a dressing room at the Macy’s store. Authorities say a suspect was trying to steal belongings from another person in the fitting room, was confronted by the person and then stabbed the person. A second person was also stabbed trying to stop the initial theft and stabbing. Police say both stabbing victims suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities say only the Macy’s store was placed on lockdown during the incident. Police identified the suspect as 20-year-old Mahad Abdiaziz Abdirahaman of Minneapolis. He’s being held on two counts of first-degree assault.

Bloomington Police Chief Jeff Potts said “the suspect went in and tried to take some property and, when confronted, he produced a knife and stabbed one man. Some family members assisted the victim and a second man sustained another knife wound.”

The Mall of America has more than 520 stores and attractions that include an amusement park and an indoor zip line.

Turns Out That Ser Davos’ First Words Were A Massive Easter Egg

HBO

Davos Seaworth is a massive fan favorite for many Game Of Thrones watchers out there. Davos may be the only person in the entire show who always seems to have a clue what the difference between right and wrong is. He’s also like the Grandpa of Game Of Thrones…if Grandpa was a fingerless smuggler who didn’t know how to read.

When we are first introduced to Davos Seaworth, the Onion Knight doesn’t know how to read. Like not at all. That is until he starts spending time with Princess Shireen, the Grey-Scale infected daughter of Stannis Baratheon, who would slowly but surely teach the loveable smuggler to read.

But as it turns out, the subplot of Davos learning to read was actually more significant than most realized, as it dropped a massive clue about what was to come in the future of the show.

Reddit

via Huffington Post:

Davos himself, actor Liam Cunningham, was recently out at New York Comic Con promoting his new project, “Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams,” and HuffPost asked him about the connection between Jon’s real name and the first word Davos learned to read.

“Yeah, they’re very good at that sort of thing,” said Cunningham. “David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] plant little Easter eggs there if you want to see them.”

The fact that Shireen (Kerry Ingram) was a part of this moment with Davos is kind of tragic, considering how much he cared for her and how she was ultimately sacrificed by Melisandre (Carice van Houten). But despite the moment’s significance, Cunningham told us he had no idea it would be so instrumental at the time.

“No, are you kidding me? I don’t know what the hell’s gonna happen from one episode to the next. That’s testament to how good the writing is on that, too. After seven seasons, people are still asking the same question they asked in Season 1. ‘Who do you think is gonna end up on the throne?’”

Just another example of Game Of Thrones being lightyears ahead of any other show on television.

On The 12th Anniversary Of His Death, Relive The Night Eddie Guerrero Became WWE Champion

WWE

By the time Eddie Guerrero finally got his hands on the WWE Championship in 2004, the wrestling era that made him famous, the Attitude Era, had largely passed him by.

The Rock had left for Hollywood and Stone Cold was retiring. Fresh young faces like Randy Orton, John Cena, Rey Mysterio and Brock Lesnar were on the rise as the WWE transitioned to a more family-friendly product. By the time Eddie Guerrero had become champion, lying, cheating, and stealing — what he was known for — was a thing for wrestling past.

At least so we thought. Because the night Eddie Guerrero won the WWE title, the Attitude Era was alive and well for one final night.

To understand why Eddie winning it all was such a feat for fans of wrestling, you must first understand the wrestler himself. Guerrero, or “Latino Heat”, was never the most popular wrestler. In the age of The Rock, Stone Cold, Triple H, The Undertaker, and more, Guerrero was largely an afterthought when it came to competing for major titles. And not only was Guerrero rarely in contention for major titles, but he was also a villain — he was an asshole. After all, his catchphrase was “I Lie! I Cheat! I Steal!”.

Yet despite his lack of title contention and villainous persona, Guerrero was always a fan favorite amongst wrestling fans. His craftiness, creativity and “get-it-done” attitude in the ring combined with his charm and playfulness on the mic made Latino Heat always one of the most endearing characters in the WWE. Guerrero was the perpetual underdog. He was the troublemaker with the heart of gold. He was a fighter.

Which is why Guerrero’s ascension to and conquering of the mountaintop will remain one of the most memorable moments in wrestling history — because he earned it in front of our eyes every step of the way.

And what does Guerrero do immediately after winning? Head into the stands to celebrate with the fans — a move that is unheard of these days.

He kisses his mother at ringside.

Before finally hoisting his nation’s colors and breaking down into tears, a champion:

WWE

This is who Eddie Guerrero was and why his death remains so shattering to this day: he was a man of the people, a man of his family, and a man of his nation — he was pride incarnate.

This is why, 12 years later, Guerrero’s death remains a tragedy not only for the world of wrestling but the sports world entirely, as he was an underdog if there ever was on. Simply put: the life of Eddie Guerrero was one of the greatest underdog stories ever told.

This Unearthed Christian Bale Interview Is A MUST-READ For All Batman Fans

Warner Bros.

Next summer will mark a decade since Christopher Nolan’s Batman epic The Dark Knight came out, which means two things: A) we’re old AF, and B) now is as good a time as any to revisit one of the finest pieces of filmmaking from the past decade.

In a new booked titled 100 Things Batman Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die (which I will certainly be buying, author Joseph McCabe publishes interviews he conducted with Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan in 2008 around the time of the movie’s release. McCabe also spoke with Ledger in November 2007, about three months before he passed away at age 28 on January 22, 2008.

One of the highlights of these interviews is Bale describing the lengths Ledger went to make the role and the film seem as real as possible, specifically in the now legendary interrogation scene.

via The Hollywood Reporter:

What was it like working with Heath Ledger as the Joker?

Christian Bale: Our first scene was in an interrogation room together, and I saw that he’s a helluva actor who’s completely committed to it and totally gets the tone that Chris [Nolan] is trying to create with this. We’re not going for actors revealing their enjoyment of playing a wacky caricature. We’re treating this as serious drama. You go into character and you stay in the character. I love that. I find that so ridiculous that I love it, and I take that very seriously. Heath was definitely embracing that. When he was in the makeup and the garb he was in character the whole time; and when he took it off he was absolutely fantastic company to be around.

As you see in the movie, Batman starts beating the Joker and realizes that this is not your ordinary foe. Because the more I beat him the more he enjoys it. The more I’m giving him satisfaction. Heath was behaving in a very similar fashion. He was kinda egging me on. I was saying, “You know what, I really don’t need to actually hit you. It’s going to look just as good if I don’t.” And he’s going, “Go on. Go on. Go on….” He was slamming himself around, and there were tiled walls inside of that set which were cracked and dented from him hurling himself into them. His commitment was total.

Ever since Ledger’s passing, a lot has been made of whether or not his method in becoming the Joker led to the circumstances that caused his untimely death.  No matter which camp you fall in regarding what caused Ledger’s accidentally overdose, everyone can agree that his death was, and still is a tragedy, as there were few actors in the world as talented as Heath Ledger.

The floor of a third-floor apartment at the Univesity of North Texas collapsed during a party this weekend, sending students to the apartment below.

Photos and videos from social media show the floor collapsing from the weight of the students.

According to WKRG, the incident happened around 1:45 AM ob Sunday when the Denton Fire Departments responded to a report of a fire alarm. When responding firefighters arrived, the found the collapsed with partygoers dangling between apartments

Denton firefighters say that they believe the cause of the collapse was “too much jumping.”

Carly Carroll, a resident in the apartment building, said that the building “is worse than you could possibly imagine because the sprinklers were on for two hours so not only was all of our stuff crushed, but its completely soaked with water. Everything is gone.”

CW33 reports that there is no word if “structural issues” at The Ridge Apartments on Colorado Blvd. are to blame. Regardless, the entire building where the collapse happened has been evacuated as crews inspect each unit.

A GoFundMe account has been set up for some of the residents of the building.

College Basketball Power Rankings 2017: Week 1 Rankings

0
0

While there were only three days of college basketball action this past week, fans and pundits were treated to some truly outstanding performances by college basketballs elite programs. The Duke Blue Devils looked as dominant as advertised while the Kentucky Wildcats looked a bit shaky against two inferior programs (Utah Valley, Vermont) despite winning both contests. One of the favorite picks to win the National Championship, Michigan State,  looked fantastic as their depth and the return of sophomore Miles Bridges should allow this team to be one of the best programs in the country barring serious injuries. Although there was not an immense amount of shakeup in the rankings as a result of a light schedule for the top teams, we got an exciting glimpse into what this season will have to offer as the year progresses.

1. Duke Blue Devils

Duke is loaded. While that is not an atypical statement for a team that recruits as well as the Blue Devils do every year, this years class is arguably the most well-rounded bunch Coach K has ever had. Number one recruit Marvin Bagley III is a highly efficient scorer (24 points against Utah Valley) and natural rebounder (10 rebounds). Freshman guard Trevon Duval has excellent court vision and is the ideal unselfish player (12 assists against Utah Valley) that is also unafraid to take his shot (seven 0f ten from the floor). Oh, did I forget to mention that Grayson Allen is back for his senior season? Look out college basketball.

2. Michigan State Spartans

With the return of sophomore guard Miles Bridges (20 points, 10 rebounds against North Florida), the Spartans have one of the most physical programs and offensively proficient teams in the country. While the three-point shooting percentage was ghastly in their opening game (25%) they more than made up for it by attacking the glass relentlessly (49 rebounds). With a matchup against top-ranked Duke coming up, the Spartans will be severely tested in every way that matters.

3. Arizona Wildcats

When it comes to scoring efficiency, it’s hard to find a better program than the Wildcats. Shooting 53.6% from three-point range while hitting 60.9% of their shots from the field, the Wildcats have some scary talented weapons, the most impressive of which is junior guard Allonzo Trier (31 PPG in two games). If the Wildcats can continue to rebound at a solid rate (42 RPG), they will have their way with their opponents in the majority of their contests.

4. Kansas Jayhawks

Unsurprisingly, Bill Self and the Jayhawks are looking like the team to beat in the BIG 12. Considering all of their starters scored in double figures while their entire team looked great defensively (seven blocks and 35 defensive rebounds against Tennessee State), the Jayhawks are a jack-of-all-trades program that is dominant or nearly dominant in every major category on offense and defense. With Kentucky coming up on the schedule this week, the Jayhawks will get a grand opportunity for a statement win over a great program.

5. Kentucky Wildcats

While Kentucky’s most recent win over Vermont was a bit closer than it probably should have been, they still did enough offensively (four of five starters scored in double figures) and defensively (four blocks, 28 defensive rebounds) to get the job done. Considering John Calipari has to coach up a new freshmen-laden roster every year, their lack of dominance is not completely surprising and they should be much more in sync when they take on Kansas this week.

6. Villanova Wildcats

Oh boy, the Wildcats are going to need to fix their shooting woes quickly if they want to have any chance of being competitive. Shooting just 21.9% from three-point range while sinking just 63.6% of their free throws, the Wildcats will need to be much more efficient at scoring if they hope to stay relevant in the Big East. Luckily, their first notable test is not until early December as they will take Saint Joseph’s on the road.

7. Wichita State Shockers

As this is their first year in the American Conference, it’s unsurprising that there are high expectations for a program that has been held back for years by playing in the Missouri Valley Conference. In their season-opening win over UMKC, the Shockers looked more than deserving of their 7th overall ranking as they demolished their opponent in nearly every conceivable way. Shooting 60.9% from the field and 56.5% from three-point range while fearlessly snagging 43 defensive rebounds, the Shockers should an exciting team to watch, especially when they finally get to compete against highly-talented opponents.

8. Florida Gators

As the Gators have yet to play their first game of the season, it’s hard to say what exactly this team is great or not so great at doing on the court. However, with the return of senior guard Egor Koulechov (8.9 RPG and 18.2 PPG last season) and junior guard KeVaughn Allen (1.3 SPG and 14 PPG last season), I expect the Gators to be one of the best defensive and paint scoring teams in the country.

9. North Carolina Tar Heels

Even without Joel Berry II, the Tar Heels were highly efficient from the field (50%) all the while attacking the defensive glass relentlessly (28 defensive rebounds against Northern Iowa). However, for everything the Tar Heels did exceptionally well in their opening game, they struggled mightily from three-point range (33.3%). While its hard to completely assume this will be a major problem going forward, it certainly points to the Tar Heels being a much different program skill wise than they have been in years past.

10. USC Trojans

You can only take so much away from a blow out win over Cal State Fullerton. However, the Trojans accomplished this expected feat by being well-balanced shooting the basketball (41.2% from the field, 41.7% from three-point range) while dominating the defensive glass (39). To top it off, the Trojans were steady from the free throw line (72%), which is something that will be much more vital to this teams continued success as they face more worthy opponents.

11. Texas A&M Aggies

Against a notable opponent in West Virginia, the Aggies looked as dominant as any team in the country to start the season. Garnering 37 defensive rebounds, while shooting 48.4% from the field and hitting 80% of their free throws, the Aggies have the size and dynamic roster to intimidate any team in the country, especially if junior center Tyler Davis can continue to be a double-double machine. While the SEC is usually considered a poor power-five conference when it comes to basketball, the Aggies will look to flip the script as they continue to develop their already impressive continuity on both offense and defense.

12. Cincinnati Bearcats

Out of all of the teams in these rankings, the Bearcats are the most lopsided in terms of what they do well versus what they do poorly. A fantastic team when it comes to aggressively obtaining defensive rebounds (40 against Savannah State) and shooting from mid to close range (47.7% from the field), the Bearcats are equally poor when it comes to free throw percentage (50%) and perimeter shooting (33.3%). It’s a glaring issue that will most likely be apart of the Bearcats skill set throughout the season, but they at least have an established identity that could allow them to win more often than not if they can continue to rebound at this off the charts rate.

13. Miami Hurricanes

If the Miami Hurricanes can continue to be this proficient offensively (83 PPG) and defensively (50 PAPG), the sky is the limit for this program. While their first two victories came against the like of Gardner-Webb and Navy, their depth combined with their overall effectiveness at shooting from the field (54.7% against Navy), should allow this team to be highly competitive in nearly every contest they participate in. While the free throw shooting percentage needs to improve (62.5% against Navy), everything else about this Hurricanes program already looks fantastic.

14. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Even before the Fighting Irish faced off against DePaul, it was obvious that the success of this program would be predicated on how well they could shoot the three ball. They did not disappoint in this regard. Senior guard Matt Farrell (five of nine from behind the arch) and sophomore guard Temple Gibbs (four of seven from beyond the arch) are the standout sharpshooters for the Fighting Irish while the two-way abilities of senior forward Bonzie Colson (18 points, 13 rebounds in win over DePaul) will be immensely helpful in keeping the ball in the hands of Notre Dames impressive offense.

15. Minnesota Gophers

Looking at the Gophers stat line in their win over South Carolina Upstate, it becomes clear that the Gophers are made up of several perimeter shooters (38.2% field goal percentage, 45.2% 3-point shooting percentage) that are very good when it comes to pulling down rebounds. While the lack of mid-range shooting capabilities is a bit concerning, the Gophers could overcome this deficiency somewhat if their starters can continue to be tenacious at playing the glass (only one Gophers starter had less than five rebounds).

16. Louisville Cardinals

Marred by various NCAA scandals in recent years, the Cardinals without Rick Pitino are decidedly less impressive. While they did defeat George Mason by 11, they barely beat the Patriots in rebounding margin (36-31) and assists (11-7). Clearly, this is a program that will be overly-reliant on individual shot creation (four out of the nine participating players scored in double figures but contributed no more than three assists apiece), something that will work against defensively challenged opponents but will most likely be exposed against many of the competitive programs that exist within the ACC.

17. Xavier Musketeers

A perennial Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight program in recent years, the Musketeers looked incredibly determined to maintain those lofty expectations as they blew out Morehead State in their season opener. While the Musketeers will most likely not be able to sustain an overall shooting percentage of 67.9% from the field, it’s apparent that they do have a plethora of prolific shooters that can score in big bunches. Better still, Xavier did an incredible job of pulling in defensive rebounds (24), something that will be highly beneficial for them if they can score consistently in transition.

18. Gonzaga Bulldogs

As always, the Bulldogs appear to be one of the most efficient teams in college basketball on both offense and defense. In a dominant win over Texas Southern, the Bulldogs were accurate in terms of shooting percentage from the field (48.6%) and from beyond the arch (44%). On top of that, Gonzaga looks to be one of the best defensive rounding teams in the country (37 defensive rebounds against Texas Southers), something that will help them tremendously against trigger-happy offenses. Assuming the Bulldogs can remain this consistently versatile, there is every reason to expect this program to be ranked somewhere in the top-five by the end of the season.

19. Northwestern Wildcats

With a less than impressive win over Loyola Maryland, it’s fair to wonder if the Wildcats may have been slightly overhyped coming into the season. While the rebounding abilities of Northwestern appear to be legitimate (29 defensive rebounds against Loyola Maryland), their difficulties when it comes to shooting the long ball (23.8%) are a bit concerning. However, these shooting issues could be overcome if the starters for the Wildcats take more high-percentage shots rather than just simply shooting at a high rate (three of the five starters had double-digit shot attempts).

20. Purdue Boilermakers

Sure, the Boilermakers dominant wins over SIU-Edwardsville and Chicago State were to be expected. However, when both of those wins come as the result of Purdue putting up 100+ points in each of those contests, it’s hard not to be at least slightly intrigued by their potential. In particular, sophomore guard Carsen Edwards was practically unstoppable as he shot 10 of 13 from the field and four of six from beyond the arch to score 25 points against Chicago State. With Marquette up next on the schedule, the Boilermakers will get a nice opportunity to prove their relentless offense is the real deal.

21. UCLA Bruins

While the Bruins persevered and won a defensive grudge match against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, it was abundantly clear that this program needs their three trouble-making freshmen to come back sooner rather than later. Despite having four out of their five starters score in double figures, the less than ideal free throw shooting percentage (66.7%) coupled with an underwhelming three-point shooting percentage (35.7%) will not cut it against programs that are much more offensively adept. Unfortunately, the Bruins only have a week to get ready for what appears to be a very good Creighton program.

22. Saint Mary’s Gaels

One of the better teams in the country that usually flies under the radar because of their relatively weak conference schedule every year actually has a well-balanced blend of prolific shooters (led by junior forward Calvin Hermanson) and rebounding (four out of their five starters had four rebounds or more in a win over St. Francis (PA)). While it’s difficult to imagine the Gaels shooting a highly-impressive 46.2% from beyond the arch, they certainly have the talent to maintain a solid overall field goal percentage while continuing to be sound defensively as the season progresses.

23. Seton Hall Pirates

Unlike many teams in this week’s rankings, the Pirates actually faced a fairly competitive opponent in the Monmouth Hawks. Defensively, the Pirates should be one of the better teams in the country as three of the five starters had three or more defensive rebounds. Offensively, the Pirates will have to dig deep in every game (43.5 % from the field, 28% from beyond the arch) to find some clutch shots while hoping their stingy defense can carry them in most situations. They may not always win pretty, but the sheer grit and physicality is a welcome rarity in a sport that has quickly become about lights out perimeter shooting.

24. Baylor Bears

While it’s difficult to gauge how offensively dominant the Baylor Bears actually are considering they beat down the Central Arkansas Bears in their lone contest, it’s worth keeping a very close eye on senior guard Manu Lecomte. Shooting six of eight from beyond the arch, Lecomte is a pure-shooter and is surprisingly adept in this regard despite his slight stature of 5’11”. If the Bears can get enough defensive plays and consistent rebounding from the likes of senior forwards Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. and Nunu Omot, this program should be one of more electric teams to watch this season.

25. West Virginia Mountaineers

Coming into their matchup with the Texas A&M Aggies, the Mountaineers believed they had the better defensive schemes and a much more reputable head coach in Bob Huggins. However, West Virginia did not appear to anticipate the defensive rebounding ability (37-24 defensive rebounds in favor of the Aggies) and length of the Aggies. As a result, starters Wesley Harris (4 of 12 from the field, 12 points) and Jevon Carter (4 of 11 from the field, 13 points) were mostly ineffective offensively and were surprisingly inept defensively. While their next four games are against weak non-conference opponents, the Mountaineers will need to do some serious soul-searching if they want to be one of the better teams in the BIG 12.

A Round-Up Of All The Mean Things Written About Giants Coach Ben McAdoo

screenshot via New York Giants Twitter

If you haven’t already heard, the New York Giants — a team that came into the season with Super Bowl aspirations — are arguably the worst team in the NFL not based in Cleveland. And not only are the Giants losing, but they’re getting embarrassed. Over the last three weeks, the Giants have lost 24-7 at home against the Seahawks, 51-17 at HOME against the Rams, and then 31-21 at the previously winless San Fransisco.

But more troubling then the results themselves is the body language and attitude of the players and coaches alike, specifically head coach Ben McAdoo, who is painfully, clearly in over his head.

Needless to say, the national media has not been kind to Benny with the Good Hair, firing off quotes and soundbites left and right about how putrid his performance has been this season. So as a Jets fan who is delighted that his team is not New York City’s worst, I happily compiled all of the funniest quotes about how shitty of a coach Ben McAdoo is.

Washington Post:

“…as overmatched in front of a gaggle of New York reporters as his football team is on the field on a weekly basis.”

“You should probably find a decent real estate agent.”

New York Daily News:

Ben McAdoo’s job security is fake news.”

“Come Monday morning, it might not be his team. “

New York Post:

“Because, based on the quality of the product McAdoo and Reese oversaw on the field Sunday, you couldn’t have blamed Giants ownership if they’d barred their head coach and GM from entering the bus, instead leaving them to cab it to the airport and fly middle-seat coach cabin back to Jersey.”

“McAdoo looks and sounds like a coach who has no answers.”

“End it now. Get it over with. Reboot. And move on.”

“Ousting McAdoo now would appease a large segment of the fan base that wants someone to blame and wants that someone to take the fall. It would be the way for ownership to say “We feel your pain’’”

Newsday:

“McAdoo’s performance this year has been inexcusable, embarrassing, pathetic, futile — use whatever other negative description you’d like.”

“There is no indication the Giants are capable of competing even against the weakest of competition. Quite simply, they don’t look like they’re capable of winning another game this season.”

USA Today:

“The Giants are setting all-time franchise marks in futility and failure, but even that doesn’t define the totality of their issues. The locker-room is fractured, there is finger-pointing abound, players are leaking team secrets to the media and the effort on the field is underwhelming at best.”

“Making matters worse, head coach Ben McAdoo continues his defiance in the face of the meltdown. He feels no shame for the team’s horrid performances and vehemently denies that his job security is even in question.”

“From “umm” to “we have to look at the tape,” McAdoo has run out of things to say. He’s clearly flustered and living in denial, and that has trickled down to his coordinators, staff and players.”

“Even the word “embarrassing” no longer does it justice.”

Mel Gibson has returned to the public eye with the recent success of Daddy’s Home 2, playing Kurt Mayron, the father of Mark Wahlberg’s character, Dusty. Of course, that was not Gibson’s first big role in the movies, with a career lasting from back when he grew up in Australia. Let’s take a look at his career through the years, not to mention his net worth.

Mel Gibson’s Net Worth 2017: $425 Million

Mel Gibson, an actor and director whose career has spanned decades, has an estimated net worth of $425 Million. Spanning roles in two different continents, Gibson has had a lot of work in front of and behind the camera.

The Early Years

Gibson was born in New York, the sixth of eleven children, although his family relocated to Australia when he was 12. It was in Australia that he first got his big break into acting, first appearing in the 1977 film, Summer City.

1970’s to 1980’s

It was in 1979 when he got his first big break in the film, Mad Max, which would become part of an ongoing series. The sequel, Mad Max 2, would become his first big hit in the United States. Gibson’s first American film was the 1984 drama The River.

1980’s to 1990’s

His role in Lethal Weapon helped to mark him as a Hollywood leading man. Building up his resume, he appeared in films like Forever Young, Maverick and Braveheart. He even gained exposure as a voice-artist as John Smith in Disney’s Pocahontas.

2000’s to 2010’s

In early 2000, Gibson proved he was a powerhouse by appearing in The Patriot, What Women Want and the animated film, Chicken Run. As the decade went on, he appeared in We Were Soldiers and Signs, the latter being the highest-grossing film of his career. Despite his success, Gibson announced at this time he would distance himself away from acting roles.

While Gibson had toyed with producing and directing earlier in his career, having from Icon Productions in the late 80’s, and having directed Braveheart, his biggest film as a director would be 2004’s The Passion of the Christ. Gibson also announced a sequel to the film in 2016, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In 2011, he appeared in the comedy-drama, The Beaver, where portrayed a depressed man who speaks through a puppet. 2016 also saw him directed the war drama Hacksaw Ridge.

Fayetteville Police Department

University of Arkansas quarterback Cole Kelley was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, careless driving and other offenses in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

According to the report filed by the Fayetteville Police Department, Kelly, the 20-year-old redshirt freshman, was booked at 8:47 AM on Sunday, November 12, after being arrested. Kelly’s bond was set at $935 and he was released from the Washington County Jail at 11:46 AM.

Police reports indicate that Kelley was pulled over around 4 AM after an officer witnessed Kelley driving with his tires on the curb. Kelley was arrested after he refused to take a breathalyzer test. His eyes were allegedly “red and watery”.

via CBS:

“We are gathering all information from the proper authorities and will make a determination upon review of that information,” Bielema said in a statement.

CBS Sports writes that Kelley played in Arkansas’ 33-10 loss at LSU on Saturday, completing 3 of 10 passes for 33 yards with an interception. He’s appeared in nine games this year and has taken over as the team’s starter after leading the team to wins against Ole Miss and Coastal Carolina.

As a result, Kelley has been indefinitely suspended from the team.

“He’s indefinitely suspended from our program,” Bielema said. “This week, he’ll not be with us and will not play on Saturday. It’s a learning lesson that I hope he takes full advantage of.”

Kelley was the 16th overall recruit by ESPN in the 2016 recruiting class.

4-time World Cup champions Italy return home to Milan to take on Sweden for the second leg of a World Cup qualifier playoff. After losing the first leg 1-0l, Italy are facing missing out on the World Cup for the first time in 60 years. The last time Azzurri missed the finals was in 1958.

While Sweden will be without Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who retired from international play, the Swedes should have enough to test the Italian’s heralded back line of Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, and Andrea Barzagli.

Despite not having as strong a team as years past, the Italians are still one of the best teams in the world and should be able to leave Stockholm with a victory.

Sweden (4-4-2): Olsen; Krafth, Granqvist, Lindelof, Augustinsson; Claesson, Ekdal, Larsson, Forsberg; Berg, Toivonen

Subs: Johnsson, Nodfeldt, Larsson, Olsson, Guidetti, Johansson, Helander, Svensson, Jansson, Rohden, Thelin, Sea

Italy (3-5-2): Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Candreva, Florenzi, Jorginho, Parolo, Darmian; Immobile, Gabbiadini

Thanksgiving Date 2017: When Is Thanksgiving This Year?

For food lovers across America, Thanksgiving is a special date dedicated to family time with plenty of food. So much food, that many refrigerators will be clogged with leftovers for days and even weeks. For those diehard Thanksgiving followers, you probably already have the date circled or marked on your nearby turkey calendar. But for the average schmo on the go, you’re probably going to want to know what day in November Thanksgiving will fall. But before I get to when, I’ll tell you how this holiday came about…

October 1621 saw the very first Thanksgiving. For three days, a festive feast was held, featuring 53 pilgrims and 90 Native Americans chowing down on plenty of food. The United States has celebrated this holiday on and off since 1789, until Thanksgiving was made a federal holiday by President Abraham Lincoln in 1864 during the Civil War for “Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.”

But when is Thanksgiving in 2017? I’ll get to that in a second…

Thanksgiving is always the last Thursday in November. Therefore, this year’s holiday falls on Thursday, November 23, 2017. This is the day when millions in the United States give thanks and gorge on plates of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, string beans, cranberries, pumpkin pie, sweet potato pie, and much more. Every plate is slightly different, but plenty still follow the turkey-tested formula…

Did you know Thanksgiving is also celebrated in Canada, but that date has already passed…

You’re late on this, dude. Canada already celebrated Thanksgiving. That country always celebrates that holiday on the second Monday in October, which was October 8, 2017. So, if any Canadians want to celebrate Thanksgiving the right way in ten days then they’ll just have to cross the border to the states, eh.

Keep in mind: America celebrates Thanksgiving this year on Thursday, November 23, 2017. While, Canada has already celebrated Thanksgiving, as that holiday fell on Monday, October 8, 2017.

Mike Greenberg Net Worth 2017: How Much Is ESPN Host Worth Today?

Mike & Mike, the sports-talk radio show namesake of Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic, is coming to an end on November 17, 2017, with Trey Wingo taking Greenberg’s role on the show. To help give the show its proper goodbye, let’s look at Greenberg’s career as a sportscaster, where you’ll find that he actually started his job quite early, with quite an extensive resume.

Mike Greenberg Net Worth 2017: $6 Million

Mike Greenberg, the longtime ESPN radio host, has a current net worth of approximately $6 million.

The Early Years

Greenberg started his career while at school, working as a sports anchor at Chicago’s WMAQ-AM while studying at Northwestern University. While in this role, he covered many big sports events like the Super Bowl and the World Series. During this time, he also wrote a weekly column for the Copley News Service.

After this period, he went to work for SportsChannel Chicago and Chicagoland television, eventually moving onto ESPN in 1996, for whom he hosted ESPNEWS and was the radio host for ESPN radio with Mike Golic. The latter show proved popular enough that it was moved to ESPN2 in 2005.

Bringing him into the limelight, he would go onto hosting the ABC game show, Duel, appeared on Guiding Light and once even co-hosted Live! With Kelly. He’s also an author, having written books like “The Poetics of Cities” and “All You Could Ask For.”

In a recent interview with The Chicago Tribune, he kept up his spirits with the end of his show, saying, “I can’t remember a time when I was doing much better. Things are going great, Northwestern is ranked in men’s basketball and football. I can’t think of a better time to be alive.”

Week 2, College Basketball Picks 2017: Spread & Predictions

0
0

After what was an uneventful few days to open up the college basketball season last week, fans will finally be treated to some legitimate contests this week. With Duke facing off against Michigan State while the Kansas Jayhawks take on the Kentucky Wildcats, college basketball fans will be delighted to witness one of the best opening weeks in recent memory. While there will be plenty of cupcake contests to avoid this week, there are at least a handful of non-conference affairs that should entice college basketball aficionados to seek out these very important matchups. Of course, there will be plenty of upsets to behold as well, which is what fans of this glorious sport have come to expect every year.

Minnesota Golden Gophers (15) vs. Providence Friars

Instagram Photo

After a fairly impressive win over South Carolina Upstate, the Golden Gophers will now have to justify their favorable ranking as they go on the road to face the highly-efficient rebounders in the Friars. With 43 total rebounds against Houston Baptist, Providence has a well-balanced roster that can attack the glass and also have one of the best point guards in the country in senior Kyron Cartwright (10 assists against Houston Baptist). While the Golden Gophers have been inconsistent when it comes to shooting the three-pointer (32.1% against the Spartans), they have looked dominant when attacking the defensive glass (34 defensive rebounds) and are actually better than Providence at moving the ball (20 assists). While I like the depth and versatility of the Friars, the Golden Gophers have better rebounding talent and a much more proficient all-around scorer in junior forward Jordan Murphy.

Final Score: Golden Gophers 79 Friars 75 Spread: Providence -2.0

Duke Blue Devils (1) vs. Michigan State Spartans (2)

Instagram Photo

The most highly anticipated contest to start the season has the young but highly talented Blue Devils facing off against Miles Bridges and the physical Michigan State Spartans. What Michigan State lacks in perimeter shooting, they more than makeup for with efficient rebounding as freshmen forward Jaren Jackson Jr. (13 rebounds against North Florida) and sophomore forward Miles Bridges (10 rebounds against North Florida) lead the way on offense and defense. However, Duke is more than capable of playing the glass themselves as freshmen forwards Marvin Bagley III (10 rebounds against Utah Valley State) and Wendell Carter Jr. (seven rebounds against Utah Valley State) have the size and skill to compete on both offense and defense. On top of that, Duke has two prolific shooters in senior guard Grayson Allen and freshman guard Trevon Duval, which should give the Blue Devils the edge they need to dispatch the Spartans.

Final Score: Duke 89 Spartans 86 Spread:

Purdue Boilermakers (20) vs. Marquette Golden Eagles

Instagram Photo

While the relentless offense of the Boilermakers probably will not be as dominant as they were in their first two games (scored 100+ points in both games), their prolific defense (41 defensive rebounds, six steals and nine blocks against Chicago State) is most definitely the real deal. Although the Marquette Golden Eagles will most likely end up being the better shooting team as the season progresses, their poor perimeter shooting (28.6% against Mt. St. Mary’s) has to be better if they want to overcome an unforgiving Boilermaker defense. Despite Marquette being opportunistic on defense (10 steals against Mt. St. Mary’s), the Boilermakers are much more formidable and will most likely dominate the Golden Eagles when it comes to rebounding.

Final Score: Boilermakers 76 Golden Eagles 65 Spread:

Kentucky Wildcats (5) vs. Kansas Jayhawks (4)

Instagram Photo

Despite looking unimpressive in both of their victories this season, the Wildcats have a plethora of young talent headlined by freshman forward PJ Washington (11 PPG, 6.5 RPG) and freshman guard Hamidou Diallo (17 PPG). Yet, as well-coached and athletic as the Wildcats are, the Jayhawks have been far more impressive at getting the most out of their roster. Junior guard Legerald Vick (23 PPG, 5 APG) is an immensely talented point man and shooter while freshman guard Marcus Garrett (10 PPG, 10 RPG) is a tremendous two-way player that can contribute in a multitude of ways. While the Wildcats will end up being one of the best teams in the country towards the end of the season, they are still a bit raw while the Jayhawks already have the established continuity to be great right now.

Final Score: Wildcats 81 Jayhawks 93 Spread:

Indiana Hoosiers vs. Seton Hall Pirates (23)

Instagram Photo

With a very young team, head coach Archie Miller and the Hoosiers are slowly but surely finding their groove. Against Howard, the Hoosiers were able to attack the defensive glass effectively (32 defensive rebounds), while taking high-percentage shots (54.1% from the field). Unfortunately for the Hoosiers, they are about to face off with an equally strong defensive opponent in Seton Hall. Against Monmouth, the Pirates were able to pull down 40 total rebounds while utilizing their athleticism to snag nine steals. As both teams are horrific when it comes to shooting free throws, this should be a low scoring affair that the Pirates defense should be able to win in the end.

Final Score: Hoosiers 64 Pirates 68 Spread:

Creighton Blue Jays vs. Northwestern Wildcats (19)

Instagram Photo

While the Creighton Blue are not currently receiving a ton of love from pundits, they could easily garner the recognition they deserve with a win over the Wildcats. Efficient from both the field (55.9% against Alcorn State), three-point range (48.5%) and the free throw line (84.4%), the Blue Jays are well-disciplined when taking high-percentage shots and are equally as steady when it comes to playing the defensive glass (36 defensive rebounds against Alcorn State). While the Wildcats are effective in their own right when it comes to rebounding (41 total rebounds against Loyola), they struggle mightily when it comes to shooting the basketball (41% from the field, 23.8% three-point percentage against Loyola). Given how well-rounded and efficient the Blue Jays have looked already, I see them easily pulling off the upset against an overrated Wildcats program.

Final Score: Blue Jays 82 Wildcats 68 Spread:

Xavier Musketeers (17) vs. Wisconsin Badgers

Instagram Photo

When gauging a matchup, the first thing to look for his overall efficiency on both defense and offense. Impressively, the Musketeers have been about as efficient as you can expect any program to be when it comes to shooting the ball as they shot 67.9% from the field and 57.1% from three-point range against Morehead State. While the Badgers are a solid defensive rebounding team (27 defensive rebounds against Yale), they don’t bring as much to the table offensively (only seven offensive rebounds and shot 31.8% from three-point range against Yale). Seeing as how the Musketeers are currently the much more efficient team on both offense and defense, it’s difficult to see the Badgers pulling out an incredible upset in this contest.

Final Score: Musketeers 85 Badgers 69 Spread:

Virginia Cavaliers vs. VCU Rams

Instagram Photo

Unsurprisingly, the Cavaliers won their first game of the season against UNC Greensboro by playing very little offense (scored just 60 total points) and focused instead on dominating the defensive glass (23 defensive rebounds). Conversely, VCU loves to shoot the basketball, whether it’s from mid-range or long distance (44.1% from three-point range against Grambling). The Rams also did a terrific job at rebounding the ball against Grambling (49 total rebounds), something that has to concern the Cavaliers. While you have to believe that the Cavaliers will be one of the best defensive teams in the country going forward, without a competent offense I just don’t see them overcoming a much more offensively tenacious Rams program.

Final Score: Cavaliers 58 Rams 74 Spread:

Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. Boston College Eagles

Instagram Photo

As long as Texas Tech can continue to rebound consistently (40 rebounds against South Alabama) and be smart when it comes to shooting from the field (48.2% against South Alabama), they have a decent chance to make a splash in the BIG 12. However, they will first have to overcome a Boston College program that is also fantastic at rebounding (50 rebounds against South Carolina State) and are unselfish when it comes to moving the ball around to the most open player (18 total assists against South Carolina State). What will give the Eagles the edge in this particular matchup is their three-point shooting (44.4% against South Carolina State), something that the Red Raiders struggled mightily to utilize in a win over South Alabama (25%).

Final Score: Red Raiders 73 Eagles 80 Spread:

USC Trojans (10) vs. Vanderbilts Commodores

Instagram Photo

While they may not be the best shooting program in college basketball, the Trojans are well-balanced enough (41.2% from the field, 41.7% from three-point range against Cal State Fullerton) in this regard to allow their aggressive defense (39 defensive rebounds, six steals and nine blocks against Cal State Fullerton) to carry the workload. Although Vanderbilt has a nice defense of their own (23 defensive rebounds against Austin Peay), they will need to tap into their passing capabilities (17 assists against Austin Peay) if they hope to score against the Trojans. Given how balanced the Trojans are when it comes to scoring combined with a tenacious rebounding defense, it’s difficult to imagine how the Commodores can pull off the upset in this contest.

Beverly Young Nelson Photos: Full Story & Must-See Details

Alabama Republican candidate Roy Moore has faced numerous allegations of sexual misconduct with underage women. Beverly Young Nelson is one of five women to come forward, alleging that Moore sexually assaulted her while she was 16-years-old. She alleges that Moore offered her a ride home, but instead groped her then forced her head down on his crouch before pushing her out of his car.

Moore is running in the 2017 special election to fill up the United States Senate seat vacated by Jeff Sessions. Luther Strange has since filled Sessions’ seat, but the seat will once again be up for grabs in less than one month. That election is set to be held on December 12, 2017.

A total of five women are speaking against Roy Moore, alleging various degrees of sexual misconduct dating back decades. Beverly Young Nelson alleges that she was sexually assaulted by Moore back in 1977, while she worked as a waitress. She claims that Moore would often show up at the restaurant, and flirt and compliment her on her looks. But then on one occasion, Nelson claims that Moore went too far…

Who is Beverly Young Nelson?

She’s is one of five women accusing Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore of sexual misconduct to underage women. Nelson claims that Moore sexually assaulted her as a 16-year-old girl, back in 1977.

Beverly Young Nelson has been married to her husband John Nelson for 13 years. At the press conference on Monday, she said that both her and John voted for Donald Trump in 2016 US Presidential Elections.

Nelson is represented by Gloria Allred is the case against Roy Moore, alleging that he sexually assaulted Nelson while she was a 16-year-old waitress.

What Did Beverly Young Nelson Say?

Nelson spoke a press conference on November 13, 2017, in Madison, New York. She was born in California, but met Moore in an Alabama restaurant. At the time, Moore was a district attorney, and was a regular at the restaurant, Old Hickory House, where Nelson worked. She claims that she met Moore, when she was 15 or 16 years old.

She said that Moore was a regular at the Old Hickory House restaurant and would often compliment her on her looks. But Nelson wasn’t interested; she didn’t want to get “with a man who’s twice my age.”

The 16-year-old waitress brought her year book to work one day, and Moore insisted on signing it. In the note, she claims he called her a “beautiful girl.” The note ends with the words “Love, Roy Moore, D.A.”

On the night of the alleged sexual assault, Nelson said she had just finished work when Moore offered her a ride home. But she said, he didn’t drove her home that night. Instead, he allegedly drove his vehicle to the back of the restaurant between the dumpsters.

“I tried to open my car door to leave, but he reached over and locked it so I could not get out,” she described. “I tried fighting him off, while yelling at him to stop, but instead of stopping be began squeezing my neck attempting to force my head onto his crotch. I continued to struggle. I was determined that I was not going to allow him to force me to have sex with him. I was terrified. He was also trying to pull my shirt off. I thought he was going to rape me. I was twisting and struggling and begging him to stop. I had tears running down my face.”

Nelson claims that Moore told her that nobody would believe her story if she ever reports the alleged sexual assault. She claims that he then pushed her out of the vehicle.

“It was late, it was dark and I didn’t say anything to him as to what occurred,” Young said regarding not telling her boyfriend (or anyone) about the incident.. “When I got home, I went donato my room and the following morning my neck was black and blue and purple. In the days following I covered the bruises on my neck with makeup. I did not tell anyone what happened. I was scared.”

She said that she quit her job at as a waitress the Old Hickory House the very next day.

Nelson’s lawyer, Gloria Allred, said that her client is willing to testify under oath.

How did Roy Moore respond to the allegations?

Roy Moore has flatly denied all allegations of sexual misconduct of minors levied against him. He calls Gloria Allred’s a “sensationalist” who was “leading a witch hunt” against him.

Moore released a statement saying, “We’ve said this before and well say it again: Judge Moore is an innocent man and has never had any sexual misconduct with anyone.”

Moore has said that all of the allegations relating to sexual misconduct weighed against is a “desperate attack” by Democrats trying to ruin his campaign for the Senate. He called the allegations “fake news” and asserted that the women must have been paid off to tell lies in order to derail his campaign ahead of the December 12 special Senate election.

“These allegations are completely false and are a desperate political attack by the National Democrat Party and the Washington Post on this campaign,” he said in a statement. “If any of these allegations were true, they would have been made public long before now.”

On Sunday, November 12, Moore threatened to sue The Washington Post over the allegations published in their paper…

“The Washington Post published another attack on my character and reputation because they are desperate to stop my political campaign,” he said during a campaign speech. “These attacks said I was with a minor child and are false and untrue — and for which they will be sued.”

Who are the four other women who came forward with sexual misconduct allegations against Roy Moore?

Beverly Young Nelson Photos: Full Story & Must-See Details

One woman named Leigh Corfman said that Roy Moore initiated a sexual encounter when she was only 14-years-old. She broke the story with The Washington Post on November 9, claiming that Moore approached her outside a courtroom in Etowah County, Alabama. At the time, Moore was 32 years old, and Corfman claims that he gave her his phone number.

Corfman claims that she went on a date with Moore only a few days after she received his phone number. She said that they kissed on their first date. However, on the second date, she said that Moore touched her over her bra and underwear, and then placed her hand over his underwear, where she could feel his erect penis.

“I wasn’t ready for that,” she told The Post. “I had never put my hand on a man’s penis, much less an erect one.”

She also claims that Moore gave her alcohol during their second encounter. At the time, alcohol was illegal for all those under the age of 19. Corfman was only 14-years-old when she alleges that Moore provided her alcohol and initiated a sexual encounter.

“I wanted it over with — I wanted out,” she told the newspaper. “Please just get this over with. Whatever this is, just get it over.”

Corfman said that Moore then took her home, calling him “charming and smiley.”

Top 25 College Basketball Rankings 2017: Week 2 AP Poll

0
0

After a quick opening weekend of college basketball, the AP Poll for this week does not feature a ton movement from the preseason poll. However, after Texas A&M dominated West Virginia last week, the Aggies went from being ranked 25th to 16th while the Mountaineers dropped from 11th all the way down to 24th. Undoubtedly, next weeks AP Poll will be much more volatile as ranked vs. ranked matchups become more prevalent while several unranked teams will get a chance to dethrone some of the lower ranked teams in the poll.

Top 25 College Basketball Rankings 2017: Week 2

Despite winning both of their opening matchups against Utah Valley and Vermont, Kentucky dropped two spots from 5th to 7th as they barely beat Vermont by a score of 73-69. With a tough contest against Kansas coming up, the Wildcats will get a grand opportunity to redeem themselves. While the Wildcats are one of youngest teams in the country, coach John Calipari has a glowing reputation for getting his youthful roster ready to take on some of the best teams in college basketball every week.

Ranking Team (1st place votes)
1  Duke (34)
2  Michigan State (13)
3  Arizona (16)
4  Kansas (2)
5  Villanova
6  Wichita State

19  Purdue
20  Northwestern
21  Saint Mary’s (CA)
22  Seton Hall

Being ranked 1st in the country, Duke will have to prove that they are worthy of that lofty pedestal as they take on a physically gifted Michigan State Spartans program. Can the Blue Devils win emphatically and establish themselves as the early favorites to win the National Title this season?
