On August 26, undefeated boxing champion Floyd Mayweather will come out of retirement to fight UFC champion Conor McGregor in a professional boxing match. This highly-anticipated fight took several months to finalize but will result in hefty paydays for both fighters. This fight is projected to raise over $77 million in ticket sales and around $475 million in PPV costs. Although the official PPV price has not been announced yet, some have speculated that it will be approximately $100 since that is what the HBO and Showtime PPV costs were in the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.

Floyd Mayweather, the clear favorite in this contest, boasts a professional boxing record of 49 wins and no losses. Known for possibly being the best defensive boxer of all-time, Mayweather uses his insane reflexes and jabs to counter-attack his opponents which has helped him outpoint competitors throughout the course of his career. Mayweather looked fantastic in his training video and looks poised to keep his undefeated record. However, Mayweather is now 40 years old and one has to wonder if he has lost a step or two as he gets older. In addition to that concern, Mayweather might be extremely rusty considering the fact that he has not fought in about two years.

Conor McGregor finds himself in an unfamiliar position. The UFC Lightweight Champion returns to a boxing ring where he has not competed in over eight years. McGregor, who has 21 wins and only 3 losses in his MMA career, was once an All-Ireland champion during his youth but decided to pursue an MMA career instead when he was 19. Known for his knockout power and phenomenal trash talking, McGregor has quickly become the face of the UFC. McGregor’s last fight was against UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez where he knocked him out in the second round. If McGregor can stay aggressive for the entire fight, he can potentially clip Mayweather with a left hook and win by knockout but that is still highly unlikely.

Personally, this fight offends me as a sports fan. I cannot see this fight being anything but a farce. No offense to McGregor but he does not deserve to fight a boxing match against the best boxer in the world. This fight is a last-ditch effort to generate large ratings for boxing. The Mayweather-Pacquiao fight might have been the worst PPV fight of all-time and angered viewers all over the world. Similarly to the Pacquiao fight, I expect this fight to be a dud. Mayweather will use his elite quickness and defense to outpoint McGregor and keep his undefeated record. Some people are expecting Mayweather to win by knockout but he has not won by knockout since 2011 and McGregor has a tough chin. I expect Mayweather to win by unanimous decision and retire shortly thereafter.

Hurricane Harvey is sweeping through southeast Texas. Houston has been particularly affected Houston. Rainfall is predicted reached up to 50 inches, according to meteorologists. Heavy rainfall has already covered Houston, with three deaths and 12 injuries being reported so far. Buildings have collapsed, and hundreds of thousands of people are without power.

“The breadth and intensity of this rainfall are beyond anything experienced before,” the weather service said. “Catastrophic flooding is now underway and expected to continue for days.”

Want to know how deep the flooding truly is? In 24 hours, more than 20 inches of rain fell down on some areas of southeast Texas. Some places were hit even worse.

The hurricane had once reached a Category 4 levels on Friday, but dwindled down to a Category 2 hurricane by Saturday, only five hours later. Winds have been averaging 110 mph, less than the previous sustained 130 mph winds.

This is the strongest hurricane to hit Texas in over half a century. The last time a Category 4 hurricane hit Texas was the year 1961. The last time the U.S. was hit by that strong of a hurricane dates back to when Hurricane Charley hit Florida in 2004.

Here’s a look at the hurricane from a satellite showing “a sandwich loop,” which is described as a “combination of visible and infrared imagery,” according to NOAA Satelites PA twitter page.

A Twitter user by the name of Brian McNoldy describes the following video/image as a “a spectacular example of an eyewall replacement cycle in #Harvey today… this 8-hour radar loop is memorizing.”

Here’s the hurricane downgrading from a Category 4 to a Category 3. Sustained winds had decreased from 130 to 140 mph. As of Saturday, winds have decreased even further, dropping the hurricane down to a Category 2.

The Twitter for Financial Times showed a satellite image of Hurricane Harvey as it mows into Texas. Their Twitter page reads, “Here’s what Hurricane Harvey looks like as it barrels into Texas – “a very major disaster”, the state’s governor warned, hours before it was expected to make landfall along the southern Texas coast on Friday night or early Saturday.”

After years of discussion, hype and then filming, we’re relieved to see that Super Troopers 2 is finally going to be an actual thing. While having a top tier defense is not paramount to winning your fantasy league, knowing that you have a clutch defensive unit on your roster that can put up consistent points each week is at the very least a comforting notion. What makes contemplating a teams defensive value particularly intriguing is factoring in how consistent a respective franchises special teams unit is when it comes to returning punts or kickoffs for big-time points.

However, like with kickers, defenses should be one of the last pieces you acquire for your fantasy squad. Even if you feel confident that you are in a prime position to snag the best defense in the league, just know that injuries and situations can drastically alter a defenses value from week to week. With that in mind, here the top defensive units that should be fairly steady point contributors over the course of the season.

10. Philadelphia Eagles

It’s amazing what a couple of years can do for a struggling defensive unit. After finishing 28th in points allowed per game in 2015 (26.9), the Eagles had one of most resurgent defensive squads in the league in 2016 as they allowed just 20.7 points per game (12 in the NFL). In 2017, the Eagles could find a way to be a consistent top-10 threat on defense as they added Chris Long and rookie Derek Barnett at the defensive end position. On top of that, the Eagles found a suitable replacement for Bennie Logan at the defensive tackle position in Timmy Jernigan. While the Eagles lack depth in the secondary, their loaded defensive front should force opposing quarterbacks to throw more errant passes providing their average defensive backs with opportunities to garner easy interceptions.

9. New England Patriots

While some will argue that the Patriots are not a top-tier defensive unit considering who they lost in the off-season (Logan Ryan, Jabaal Sheard and Chris Long), in terms of a fantasy contributor, the Patriots still have most of the key players that were responsible for forcing 16 fumbles last season (7th in NFL). Adding veteran defensive lineman Lawrence Guy and cornerback Stephon Gilmore (5 INT’s last season) to the mix should still allow the Patriots to be a tenacious unit that is effective at forcing turnovers. They may not be the most intimidating defense in the league, but their scrappy modus operandi will allow them to rack up points for your fantasy squad on a fairly consistent basis.

8. New York Giants

Like the Eagles, the Giants had one of the most surprisingly stout defensive units in the league last year. They allowed only 284 total points (second fewest) and intercepted 17 passes (4th most) last season. Their proficient secondary is loaded with talent (Eli Apple, Janoris Jenkins, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Landon Collins) and their two veteran defensive ends (Jason Pierre-Paul and Olivier Vernon) should allow the Giants to be a potent defense. While their linebacker corps is not nearly as dominant, this should still be a defensive squad that continues to stifle opposing offenses while racking up interceptions throughout the season.

7. Arizona Cardinals

Ok, let’s just look at what the Cardinals defensive front accomplished last year and be overwhelmed by the sheer dominance of it all. They ranked first in forced fumbles (21), sacks (48) and tackles for loss (122) in 2016, making them an aggressively effective unit that consistently racked up turnovers and fantasy points throughout the regular season. However, even with the aforementioned statistics, the Cardinals lost five of their starters from last season, three of which were essential contributors in the secondary (Tony Jefferson, D.J. Swearinger and Marcus Cooper). Yet, even with that being said, the Cardinals demeanor when it comes to fearlessly decimating opposing offensive lines should not change much and allow them to be a solid defensive squad this year.

6. Baltimore Ravens

If you thought the Ravens were a defensive force to be reckoned with last year, just wait until you see what this team does to opposing offenses this season. Aside from finishing as a top-ten defense in every major category, this unit was particularly well-known for being nearly impenetrable when opponents attempted to run the ball against them (5th in rushing yards allowed last season). Fantasy wise, this team was especially tenacious on Special Teams as they blocked four kicks last year. Combine all of this with the plethora of additions that this team added in free agency and in the draft (Marlon Humphrey, Tony Jefferson, Brandon Carr, Tyus Bowser) and this is a overwhelmingly physical defense that should continue to pound opposing offenses into submission.

5. Seattle Seahawks

Normally a top-3 defensive unit, the Seahawks slipped a couple of spots as their secondary did not live up to their dominance of previous seasons as they were 21st in the league in interceptions (11). Still, the Seahawks have one of the best defensive fronts in the NFL as they finished third in sacks (42) and third in total points allowed (292) in 2016. The latter numbers should barely waver as the Seahawks retained the majority of their dominant defensive unit. Simply put, fantasy owners should expect more the same from the Seahawks defense this year as they should be consistent point contributors week in and week out.

4. Houston Texans

Considering the Texans were the 11th best defense in points allowed last season (20.5) without J.J. Watt, this team will almost certainly bounce back to being a top-tier defense again. The front seven is amongst the best in the league (J.J. Watt, Jadeveon Clowney, Brian Cushing, etc.), which should allow them to elevate their bellow average numbers in sacks and forced fumbles from last season. Considering they play both the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts twice (and the Browns and 49ers each once), this team is in an ideal position to post big fantasy numbers throughout the 2017 season.

3. Minnesota Vikings

Going from the worst fantasy defense in 2013 to the best in 2016 is no easy feat. But, in their all-around dominant performance last year, the Vikings did just that as they ranked sixth or better in fumble recoveries (13), sacks (41), points allowed (307) and touchdowns (7). Although the Vikings lost slot corner Captain Munnerlyn in free agency, this dominant defensive unit remains largely intact and should be amongst the best when it comes to being a top scoring defense in 2017.

2. Denver Broncos

Here is the one statistic that fantasy owners should make a note of: The Broncos have ranked in the top two as a scoring defense in each of the past two seasons. While this may be the golden statistic that fantasy fanatics cling to obsessively, it does not quite tell the whole story of what this defense can do. Their consistency as a opportunistic squad allowed them to finish fourth or better in fumble recoveries (13), Sacks (42), yards allowed (5,057) and points allowed (297). What makes these numbers particularly noteworthy is that the Broncos defense saw very little turnover during the offseason, priming them for another strong campaign when it comes to being consistently reliable in fantasy.

1. Kansas City Chiefs

While some may consider the likes of Denver and the Vikings as defensive squads that are more well-rounded when it comes to what they do on the field, the electric way the Chiefs make their killing as a scoring defense makes them the best defense to have in fantasy football. Last season, the Chiefs led the league in interceptions (18), fumble recoveries (15) and touchdowns (8). By the way, those interceptions from last year have been pulled of with impressive consistency in four of the last six seasons, so the Chiefs are unlikely to regress in that regard. Combine that with the fact that the Chiefs have a one of the best return men in the league in Tyreek Hill (scored three touchdowns on special teams in 2016) and this unit will undoubtedly be the best fantasy defense throughout the 2017 regular season.

If King were alive and looking out among the masses of today, he’d see a lot of progress; integrated families on television and in real life, an environment where people with different skin colors and cultures can fall in-love, raise families, and lay aside the prejudices and fears of our ancestors. But then he’d also be upset with some of the lingering divisions that draw America apart; as why do some communities still largely segregate themselves according to race and why has our liberal college campuses fallen back to enforcing segregationist policies themselves? And it is frankly obvious that politicians and media outlets from both sides still prey upon and capitalize upon race to divide our country even more.

It is 2017, over half a century since MLK gave his famed “I Have A Dream Speech” in Washington D.C.

To all the frenzied, obsessed college students who are out “fighting oppression,” you should realize that an angry mind can be the most tyrannical of all, as MLK had to endure years of horrific and demeaning examples of human cruelty, but moved on with a positive outlook towards the future. As the lesson should not be how many times we’ve struggled, but how much we’ve overcome.

Tammy Lynn Sytch is known as WWE’s original diva during the mid-to-late 1990s. She played the role of Sunny, a super-sexy and seductive valet for tag teams such as The Bodydonnas and the Legion of Doom 2000. She brought an extra level of attitude to the brand, and set the trend for more scantily-clad women to take her place in the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression Eras.

However, Sunny hasn’t been so hot as of late. She’s gotten herself into a bit of legal trouble over the years, stemming to DUI arrests, a third-degree burglary charge and much more. She’s the only past performer who WWE refuses to pay for rehab treatment.

Believe it or not, it is already late August which means that it is time for another U.S. Open tennis tournament to commence. Americans such as John Isner and Jack Sock will look to become the first U.S. representative to win the tournament since Andy Roddick in 2003. Despite it being highly unlikely, Isner and Sock’s chances are slightly higher than usual due to the vast number of injuries among the elite tennis players in the top ten rankings. Defending champion Stan Wawrinka has withdrawn from the tournament due to a knee injury. Joining Wawrinka is two-time U.S. Open champion Novak Djokovic, 2012 U.S. Open champion Andy Murray and 2014 U.S. Open finalist Kei Nishikori. It is very unlikely to have at least four players currently ranked in the top ten missing the same Grand Slam tournament. However, their absences increase the chances of everyone else due to their dominance in years past.

With these absences, the favorite is Roger Federer. Federer, this year, has already won the Australian Open and Wimbledon and has won 35 of his 38 matches. At age 36, this might arguably be the greatest season in ATP tennis history. Prior to this year, Federer had not won a Grand Slam event since 2012 and it looked like his legendary career was coming to an end after a knee injury in 2016. However, Federer had other ideas and shocked the world by defeating longtime rival Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open final before defeating Marin Cilic to capture his 8th Wimbledon title. If Federer manages to win the U.S. Open, it will be a feat that no one in the future will ever copy. I doubt we will ever see a 36 year old men’s tennis player win three Grand Slams in a single year ever again.

The player with the second-best odds to win the 2017 U.S. Open is none other than Rafael Nadal. Nadal, Federer’s long-time rival, has also had a Renaissance year and has looked healthier than he has in a long time. Prior to this year, Nadal had not won a Grand Slam event since 2014 and was dealing with a variety of injuries including a wrist injury that ended his 2016 campaign. However, the two-time U.S. Open champion has looked relatively sharp in recent weeks and was recently ranked number one in the world for the first time since 2014. If he stays healthy, he has a tremendous shot to win his third U.S. Open title.

An aging school teacher/protester found himself in jail after threats he made to a police officer at a recent Black Lives Matter protest in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. BLM activists came out on August 16 to protest a statue resembling Frank Rizzo, Philadelphia’s former police commissioner and Democratic mayor, who has been accused of “oppressing blacks” and “catering to white fears.”

John Edward Sheerin, 63, was arrested on Friday night as a direct result of his conduct during the protest against the Frank Rizzo statue, according to Philly.com. Sheerin repeatedly antagonized and pelted a particular police officer with insults and threats.

In the video, the teacher directs his rage at a police officer, calling him a “gutless b****,” said the cop is “f***ing done,” said he would “take his f***ing head off.” Sheerin also insisted of giving the officer his address, so he “knock on [his] door” to escalate their feud.

“This 63-year-old man will beat your ass to kingdom come,” says Sheerin.

At about the 1:58 second, Sheerin really gets heated with the officer. The teacher is really blowing his top. Activists need to push him back as rage overwhelms his face.

The enraged teacher works at Philadelphia’s Julia de Burgos School. However, spokesman Kevin Geary said that the school had already been investigating the professor prior to the arrest and he will be removed from school effective immediately until that investigation is complete.

Supporters of the embattled school teacher showed up outside the police facility where officers held him prisoner.

“I really can’t believe you guys stayed out there all night,” said Sheerin in a Facebook post, according to Philly.com. “It must have been so uncomfortable. But I learned something about discomfort from my first night in a cell. There’s nothing SOFT in a cell!”

Sheerin was released on $5,000 bail, his next court date is scheduled for September 26.

“Our comrade is home safe and sound,” said Asa Khalif, a Black Lives Matter Pennsylvania leader, on Facebook. “This man is a true soldier in the fight for justice. Proud to have him as a friend and ally.”

People in support of the statue felt that Rizzo assisted citizens with less power and influence. While activists who want the statue gone believe that he “oppressed blacks and catered to white racial fears.”
