The White House is under lock-down procedures after a mysterious package was discovered on the north lawn of the presidential property. As a result, Washington DC police and secret service are investigating this package near the north face of the White House.

After 1:15 P.M., pedestrians and others were cleared from the area along Pennsylvania Avenue, according to a spokesperson from the Secret Service.

Only minutes prior, at 1:10 P.M., a man was arrested for unlawful entry on the Rotunda steps of the U.S. Capitol. He was also carrying a suspicious package, which turned out to be harmless. Police confirm that no hazardous materials were extracted from the package. The steps are absolutely off-limits, especially to common pedestrians.

A 25-year-old mother in Tennessee finds herself in hot water with authorities after her very young and unsupervised daughter drowned to death in a swimming pool at a Hendersonville apartment complex. The incident went down on August 12. Police investigated the drowning and determined that the mom was at fault for not “caring or watching” her seven-year-old daughter.

Kristen Mays is the mother of the young girl who drowned to death at a Hendersonville apartment complex. She has been charged with criminally negligent homicide after authorities accused her of not “watching or caring” for her small child leading up to the death.

According to police, Mays allegedly neglected to maintain visual supervision of her daughter and the child was reportedly found underwater in the deep end of the pool. The little girl was pulled from the water and CPR was performed before she was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Mays was arrested on Tuesday. She has been charged with criminally negligent homicide. Her court date is set for September 27, 2017.

The 25-year-old mother is originally from Elkton, Kentucky. Yet, she finds herself in a Tennessee jail.

U.S. Marshals have nabbed a man wanted for a killing in Haverford Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The suspect had also allegedly let off gun shots in the Overbrook Park section of Philadelphia late last month. Authorities apprehended Derrick Hershal, Rollins, 24, on Tuesday in Decatur, Georgia.

The suspect allegedly tried to hide himself from U.S. Marshals on Tuesday. But authorities caught up to him when their surveillance teams discovered him with a female associate an apartment complex.

Rollins fled Pennsylvania following the shooting death of John Le in Haverford, Township. The suspect had addresses on the 5100 block of Locust Street and the 4000 block of North A Street in Philadelphia. U.S. Marshals in Philadelphia suggested that Rollins fled to Georgia, and they were absolutely correct.

The suspect is currently being held in the Dekalb County Jail pending extradition back to Pennsylvania.

But first, let’s take a look at the crimes allegedly committed by Rollins….

What Happened?

The story begins around 5 P.M. on Saturday, July 29th, in the 1600 block of North 77th Street. According to authorities, a witness in Philadelphia’s Overbrook Park section reportedly observed a man in a red hoodie, identified as Derrick Rollins, exiting a gray Volvo and walking up to a neighbor’s window to gaze inside. The witness said that he called the neighbor and informed him of what just happened.

Police say that Rollins left the area, so the witness and the neighbor went off looking for a gray Volvo. The duo allegedly found Rollins sitting in his car at 77th and Sherwood. The driver and homeowner confronted Rollins, which led to an argument. Rollins responded by allegedly pulling out his gun and letting off 17 shots in their direction. The driver and the neighbor flee the gunfire.

Later, at around 6 P.M., 29-year-old John Li was shot and killed at an apartment complex in the 2300 block of Haverford Road in Haverford Township. Police say that Le was there visiting a friend. When police arrived at the scene of the crime, a friend was applying CPR to the victim. Le was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Police identified Rollins as the killer in the shooting death of John Le after surveillance footage was released. The footage allegedly shows Rollins running away from the scene of the crime.

In the video, Le is exiting a pizza shop after picking up an order. The suspect is seen walking several feet ahead of him. Investigators aren’t aware what happened with Le and the suspect after they left view of the surveillance camera.

“We don’t know what transpired, but it’s very short and the sidewalk leading up to the apartment is not very long. There was some sort of confrontation. Was it a robbery? We don’t know that yet,” Viola told Action News this week.

John Le’s family describes him as kind, gentle, and hard-working. Li graduated from Temple University. He had just acquired a new accounting job before the fatal shooting.

Those who knew Le said that he enjoyed fresh air and the competition of golf. He could be found at Fairmount Park’s Sedgley Woods disc golf course, several times a week after work.

Lisa Theris, a 25-year-old woman who went missing in the Alabama woods, was found alive on Saturday, August 12, after being missing for a month.

Theris said she survived by eating berries and wild mushrooms during her time wandering the dense forest in Midland, Alabama. Furthermore, Theris was without shoes or shelter for the entirety of the time. When she was found naked after being spotted by a driver on Route 82, she had lost 50 pounds, was without shoes, a phone, or a purse, and was covered in scratches and bug bites.

“She had been out lost in the woods,” Sheriff Raymond Rodgers said. “She said she was drinking water out of a brook and eating berries and mushrooms.”

In total, Theris spent 25 days stumbling in circles around the forest despite never being more than a mile from the nearest road.

Now, according to Daily Mail, investigators believe that the former Hooters waitress may have been “disorientated and suffering from hallucinations brought on by taking methamphetamine” while in the woods.

The two men she allegedly took drugs with, meanwhile, were so sure the 25-year-old was dead they started accusing one another of killing her. One inexplicably told investigators that the other had shot Theris in the head and thrown her body in a creek, leading authorities on a futile two-day search involving cadaver dogs and divers.

Her extraordinary claims have split opinion among locals and law enforcement, some of whom refuse to accept her ‘miraculous’ survival is what it seems. In the 25 days she was missing there were no confirmed sightings of Theris.The Troy Police Department even received a tip-off that she was shopping in Walmart but when they checked the store’s CCTV they could not spot her on any of the footage.

Theris, who suffers from bipolar disorder and is legally blind due to a chronic eye condition, was reported missing by her father Bill on July 23, five days after he last heard from her.

Despite this, Sgt. Chad Faulkner, who led the investigation for the Bullock County Sheriff’s Office, said he has no evidence that leads him to believe that Theris is lying.

Furthermore, Faulkner considers it a “miracle” that Theris survived, saying that in his 15 years doing his job, he’s never seen anything like it.

But as you can see, while the reviews of the first two seasons feature adjectives like “gory”, “shock” and “scare”, the following seasons are described by words like “campy” “weirdness” and “garish”. All of this is just a long way of me saying that something about the show changed and I wasn’t game, so I tuned out.

But then last season, Roanoke, I heard that AHS had gone back to its old ways, and again, Rotten Tomatoes agrees, saying that it returned to it’s “spookier, smaller scale.”

Well, based on the looks of the first trailer, it appears that the seventh season of the smash FX show, Cult, will be continuing that trend.

Hopefully, the return of a modern, grounded setting and realistic gritty thrills will lead to a return in quality as well. Either way, you can never go wrong with Sarah Paulson in the lead.

President Donald Trump announced on Monday that US troops will have a greater presence in Afghanistan going forward. Trump didn’t say how many soldiers he’ll send off to war, and says that’s part of his strategy: not letting the radicals know his next move in the longest war in United States history.

Trump admits that he initially felt it would be best if the US pulled out of Afghanistan completely. But the president has changed his mind, and has decided to bolster troops in the war-torn nation.

“The men and women who serve our nation in combat deserve a plan for victory,” Trump said. “They deserve the tools they need, and the trust they have earned, to fight and to win.”

US defense officials already have a pending order of 3,900 troops that Trump had signed off on June.

How Many Troops Are In Afghanistan Right Now?

At present moment, the amount of troops in Afghanistan is roughly 8,400 soldiers, according to The Guardian. This is down from the 9,800 in the region in 2016 under President Obama. But this is nothing compared to the 100,000 US troops stationed there in 2011.

Editor’s Note: Sources vary when it comes to how many U.S. troops are in Afghanistan. Some say 8,400 while others say, while others cite the 2016 figure of 9,800:

In 2016, there was 25,197 U.S. contractors in Afghanistan, with three percent of the contractors acting as armed private security agents. That year, 72 percent of U.S. presence in that country was made up of contractors. At present, there are roughly 26 thousand contractors in the region.

Soon after President Obama took office, he sent a surge of soldiers to the region. In 2010, 140 thousand US troops were stationed in Afghanistan; the year in which the largest number of US troops participated in this nearly 16-year-war.

Now, Trump is upping the ante. He claims that he wants to finish this conflict quickly and with overwhelming force. Trump says that he’s not there to tell them what government they can or should have. He says he’s there to kill terrorists, as a means enforce stability in the region and combat international terrorism.

“We are not nation-building again,” says President Trump. “We are killing terrorists.”

WWE US Champion AJ Styles has something to say

AJ Styles comes out to a huge pop. He’s looking for a challenger and wants to defends his championship tonight. Out comes Kevin Owens. KO demands a rematch for the US title. AJ says he already beat him and KO doesn’t deserve it.

SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon is out next. He agrees with Styles, but grants Owens the match anyway. Tonight, Kevin Owens will face AJ Styles for the WWE United States Championship. Plus, KO will need to look for a referee. If KO loses, he won’t be able to compete for the US Championship for as long as AJ is champion.

Kevin Owens approaches his former friend/enemy Sami Zayn. KO says that Zayn is the only guy he can trust, and he doesn’t even know why they should be fighting. Plus, Zayn hasn’t been doing anything since coming to SmackDown, so he might as well involve himself in something important.

Aiden English vs. Bobby Roode

Aiden English starts off this segment with his usual song. And then…former NXT Champion Bobby Roode’s music hits! Roode is about to make his SmackDown Live debit.

Roode dominates the match on the early going. He has English reeling as we go to to commercial break. Roode continues the punishment, but “The Drama King” Aiden English turns the tide and takes control of the contest.

Aiden English gets too cocky and Bobby Roode picks up momentum. Roode is laying into English with hard shots. English counters with a Director’s Cut and goes for the pin. 1…2….kick out!

English continues the offense, but Roode counters. He jumps off the top rope, hitting English with a flying neck-breaker. Roode follows up with a spine-buster, and then seals the deal with a Glorious DDT.

Mojo Rawley dominates the match early on against The Usos. Rawley is running corner to corner with hard clotheslines, but after a quick distraction, Mojo is laid on his ass. The Usos enforce their dominance on Rawley.

Rawley fights back and knocks down The Usos, but he’s hurt. Mojo inches his way towards Zach Ryder and makes the tag. Ryder kicks ass immediately. The crowd is looking Ryder. A Broski Boot was avoided, but Rawley comes back with some punishment. Mojo hits hard with a shoulder tackle. But he is taken out with a superkick, but Ryder regains control, bringing the action back to the ring. Ryder hits a knee to Jimmy Usos’ face. Jey jumps up on the rope to distract Ryder. And that’s all Jimmy needs to put away Ryder for the win. Just give an Uso an opportunity, and they’ll capitalize big time.

Charli Jones Parker, a 31-year-old former private school teacher who was accused of having sex with two male students, has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to one of the charges.

Parker, 31, was sentenced on Monday, August 21, to 12 years in prison. However, she also has to serve three, followed by five years probation.

Parker, who is a mother-of-one, was teaching at Pickens Academy private Christian school in Carrolton, Alabama when she was arrested in March 2016 and charged with 13 counts of having sex with a student under the age of 19.

According to court records in the previous cases, she had sex at least 11 times with a student between October 2014 and March 2016. The documents redacted the victim’s information, but authorities have previously said her victim was a male student.

The sex acts included sexual intercourse and deviant sexual intercourse, including oral sex, according to a deposition in the case. The interactions took place at Graham Cemetery in Reform, at another location identified only as “red wood building” in Reform, and at the Parkers’ home in Pickensville.

The teacher and student met at least four times at the cemetery, three times at the Parkers’ home and four times at the other Reform location. Two of the meetings happened in October 2014, three times in March and the rest of the incidents don’t have a listed date.

Charli’s husband James Franklin Parker, 33, was the basketball coach at the school. Both were eventually fired from the school. His case is set for trial on November 27.

Parker will begin serving her sentence on September 11. She also must follow the state’s sex offender laws and she cannot have any contact with the victim.

Footage of Katelyn Rust, an Ohio State University sophomore, making a racist comment went viral on social media on Monday.

Rust was recorded on video saying: “F*** yourself you’re hooking up with a black girl, that’s weird. That’s weird as f***. F*** you.”

Another student at a different college, Aleigha Mason posted the video on her Twitter. Mason, a freshman at Miami University in Ohio, identified the girl in the video as Rust.

In the original video, you can hear the girl who Mason identified as Katelyn Rust say, “Fuck yourself you’re hooking up with a black girl, that’s weird”. She continues to re-iterate her initial comment until the video ends.

“It’s crazy that racism still exists here @OhioState can’t believe the color of my skin is ‘weird’,” Mason said in a tweet addressing the video.

After removing the tweet, Mason issued a statement thanking her followers for the support and announcing that she chose to remove the video “because at the end of the day [Katelyn Rust] is a human too even though she thinks I am less than that.”

The Tab reached out to both Aleigha and Katelyn for a comment, however, both did not respond

Rust released a statement to The Lantern, apologizing for her actions:

“First and foremost racism is wrong. I, in no way, think that anyone is less of a person than anyone else because of their skin color, nationality, religion, sexual preference or otherwise and sincerely apologize for all the words in this twitter video.”

“I have personally apologized to the young woman who posted this video and explained that my weird reference had nothing to do with her skin color. I was quite simply very hurt, and angry with an ex-boyfriend and jealous of her. Nothing more.”

“Again, I say in the strongest possible terms that racism is despicable and I apologize for any hurt or pain this tweet caused this young woman or anyone else. I sincerely ask for forgiveness from this young women (sic), the OSU student body, faculty and alumni family.”

Kevin Eng, the former “Horndog High” student who slept with his teacher, Erin Sayar, has been awarded $750,000 in damages.

Sayar, 41, of Brooklyn, was sentenced to 10 years probation, stripped of her teaching license and designated a Level 1 sex offender after took a plea deal for multiple charges of statutory rape and sex abuse over her affair with then-16-year-old Kevin Eng back in 2012.

Maureen Eng, Kevin’s mother, sued Sayar and the school for $10 million citing the teen’s emotional distress. She lost her suit against the city last year, but her lawyers continued the case against the teacher.

Sayar was initially charged with 50 criminal counts of statutory rape and sex abuse, then copped a plea deal and was sentenced to 10 years probation, stripped of her teaching license and designated a Level 1 sex offender.

Eng’s mom sued Sayar and the city in civil court, citing her son’s emotional anguish over the saga. She lost her $10 million suit against school officials last year, but the teen’s lawyer, Bruce Baron, continued with his case against Sayar.

But Sayar, whose husband left her in 2013, dropped off the radar, Baron told The Post on Tuesday. The lawyer said he had filed numerous civil motions on behalf of Eng in the past five years, and each time Sayar “didn’t show’’ up to court or didn’t respond to legal letters.

According to reports, Eng admitted having oral sex and intercourse with Sayar between eight to 12 times. The pair also exchanged 3,856 text messages during a span of 17 days.

Man, this dude’s steroids are on steroids.

Last night, just about an hour or so after the Kyrie Irving-to-Boston news shocked the sports world, the arguably more shocking (or not shocking, depending on who you ask) news that Jon Jones had tested positive for steroids broke.

Jones, who has been infamously suspended from the UFC numerous times for drug use, finally made his return to the ring at UFC 214 on July 29 to defeat rival Daniel Cormier and win back his UFC Heavyweight title.

However, it appears Jones will have to forfeit his title not even a month into his reign following his latest positive test.

Needless to say, the reaction from the sports world was a mixture of shock, humor, and overall disgust, as Jones, arguably the greatest talent the UFC has ever had, is all but finished in mixed martial arts.

If I was a chick, I would absolutely never be on any form of a dating app. Just too many dog-stealing psychos out there. Now, while a stolen dog may not have been a woman’s first concern when bringing home a stranger before, it should certainly be at the top of the list now. Money? Replaceable. TV? Buy a new one. Panties? Well, that’s weird, but you have thousands. But your dog? That’s some real sick shit.

According to reports, a family dog was stolen from a home in Leonia, New Jersey after an unidentified 18-year-old woman, who was dog sitting for a neighbor, invited a stranger she’d met on Tinder into the home. The Leonia Police Department says that the woman met the man through Tinder before inviting him to the home. When he arrived, he was with another man.

CBS New York reports that while the woman was distracted by one of the men, the other was able to steal a laptop, an Amazon package, and, that’s right, a 2-year-old white female Maltese named Maggie.

Unfortunately, the dog or the men responsible for stealing her have not yet been found. The Leonia Police Department is asking for anyone who may have seen Maggie or who has information about this case to call (201) 944-0800 or email tips@leoniapd.org.

It’s the end of draft day. You’re admiring the fruits of your labor as you review all of your coveted draft selections. The sense of sheer euphoria is palpable as you become giddy in anticipation at the notion of going head-to-head with your buddies in what can only be another joyous year of Fantasy Football. For some, the moment immediately following draft day will be the peak of their jubilation as they become lulled into a false sense of security that leads them to believe that nothing can break up their star-studded line up…and then unthinkable happens. You lose your top wide receiver to a season ending-injury…in week 2 of the regular season.

We’ve all been there. Understandably, it’s difficult to have the needed foresight to look past at what you’ve crafted initially to accept the reality that your fantasy roster is never safe. However, what everyone once viewed as irrelevant trash in your draft war room can easily become a valuable asset as the season progresses. While there are a handful of players that are nearly sure things every week, for the most part, being great at fantasy football comes down to properly gauging a players value week in and week out. This is where severely underrated players such as Cole Beasley come into play.

While at first glance Beasley may not appear to be particularly exciting, it only takes a more in depth look to see that the well-rounded slot receiver has the capabilities to match or slightly exceed his fantasy projections each week. With the absence of Ezekiel Elliot for the first six games of the season (barring a successful appeal), Dak Prescott will look to check down to Cole Beasley much more often on first and third downs. Last season, Beasley caught 18 passes for 189 yards on 1st and 8-10 yards from the first down marker. (both statistical highs for down and distance). However, when it comes to scoring, Beasley truly shined in 3rd down and 3-7 yards to go (12 receptions, 123 yards and two touchdowns) situations. What does this tell us? It says that Beasley is a versatile weapon in that he can relied upon when getting a drive started and can also be clutch in third and short or medium situations. Better still, Beasley is at his best in the fourth quarter in terms of receiving yards (265), making him a viable receiving threat that does not simply fade away as the game progresses.

You’re probably saying to yourself, “Yea these stats are cool and everything, but how does that help me win in fantasy”? Simply put, it shows us Beasley is not only a consistent threat when he steps onto the field, but that his value increases overtime especially towards the end of games. For anyone that has played fantasy football consistently, there is nothing more frustrating than watching one of your players steadily put up solid numbers in the first three quarters of the game only to be practically non-existent during the home stretch when you need them the most. Beasley rarely has that problem. Although Beasley likely won’t be a fantasy point scoring juggernaut, his well-established floor makes him a safe fall back guy if you’re in a pinch.

In the end, while Beasley may not be worth spending a draft pick on, his reliability and firm place in the Cowboys offense makes him an ideal bench warmer for your squad. While Beasley’s importance will not seem vital to your fantasy squad initially, he could very well be the deciding factor in your team winning a vital matchup, especially as injuries start to mount during the latter half of the season.

That’s right folks, based on the context clues from the trailer for Tulip Fever, it appears to be a movie where Lara Croft spends a lot of time going behind Hans Landa’s back to bang Harry Osborne. Sure, seeing bug-eyed head ass Dane Dehaan get to roll around with Alicia Vikander may piss me off a little bit, but I’m sure Alicia’s near perfection will offset that jealousy quite quickly.

“In 17th Century Amsterdam, an orphaned girl (Alicia Vikander) is forcibly married to a rich and powerful merchant (Christoph Waltz) – an unhappy “arrangement” that saves her from poverty. After her husband commissions a portrait, she begins a passionate affair with the painter (Dane DeHaan), a struggling young artist. Seeking to escape the merchant’s ever-reaching grasp, the lovers risk everything and enter the frenzied tulip bulb market, with the hope that the right bulb will make a fortune and buy their freedom.”

Tulip Fever, directed by Justin Chadwick and written by Tom Stoppard, is adapted from a novel by Deborah Moggach. It stars Alicia Vikander, Dane DeHaan, Jack O’Connell, Zach Galifianakis, Judi Dench, Christoph Waltz, Holliday Grainger, Matthew Morrison and Cara Delevingne. The plot follows a 17th-century painter in Amsterdam who falls in love with a married woman whose portrait he has been hired to draw.

It will be released in theatres September 1, 2017.

A bomb threat has been emailed to Brandeis University in Massachusetts. The Brandeis campus is now closed to all faculty and non-essential personnel.

At this time, the nature of the threats ware unclear. The university sent home staff and students out of an “abundance of caution”.

University spokesman Jarret Bencks wrote in an email to JTA that the school is working with law enforcement to investigate the threat, which he did not specify.

The university campus will be reopened once law enforcement confirms there is no threat.

Braindeis University enrolled about 5,600 graduate and undergraduate students in 2015.

The NFL is one of the hardest leagues to make predictions that accurately foreshadow the outcome of the season. This is mostly due to the frequent injuries, sporadic play from players and other variables within the violent game of football. Here is my attempt to make accurate predictions of the top five teams going into the 2017-NFL season.

5. New York Giants

Quarterback: Eli Manning
Ranked Defense: 10th

No, I am not saying this because I am a native New Yorker or because I am a New York Giants fan. Looking at the Giants this year, they are absolutely stacked. The Giants still have their star wide receiver in Odell Beckham Jr; who is looking to have another fantastic year. However, one asterisk on his name is the recent injury Beckham Jr. suffered against the Browns in the preseason. The Giants also improved by adding a piece to their team, Brandon Marshall. Originally playing for the Jets, Marshall proved to be amongst the elite in this league. If the ball was within his grasp, somehow he would be able to collect. This dynamic duo is the most athletic receiving crew in the league. Hand-in-hand with these strong offensive weapons is the Giants defense. With all of these attributes to the team, there is one question that can determine the Giants’ season this year. “How will Eli Manning play?” Manning has proved to be astounding in specific moments. On the other hand, he has proven to be cringe worthy terrible in others. With the addition of Marshall, I have reason to be hopeful that Manning does connect with his receivers; therefore granting the Giants a successful year.

4. Pittsburgh Steelers

Quarterback: Ben Roethlisberger
Ranked Defense: 12th

Pittsburgh is home to one of the most dynamic offensive trios in the NFL today. Unfortunately, the head of the three, Ben Roethlisberger may be hanging up the cleats after this year. To Roethlisberger, that is simply motivation to have an amazing year. Being one of the hardest quarterbacks to tackle in the game, he still is considered one of the top at his position. With his cannon arm, he will be throwing to arguably the best target in the league, Antonio Brown. Not only do the Steelers have the best receiver, Le’Veon Bell is the best running back in the league. Bell’s unique style of galloping through gaps in his offensive line propel his ahem amongst his fellow running backs. All in all, the Pittsburgh Steelers will be one of the most dynamic teams this year.

3. Green Bay Packers

Quarterback: Aaron “The Great” Rodgers
Ranked Defense: 22nd

That is my official name of the person who throws the football for the Green Bay Packers. Aaron Rodgers is the reason why I believe the Packers will be the third best team in the NFL. With wide receivers like Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb, Aaron Rodgers seems to hit his targets with such ease. Even with a lackluster defense, the Green Bay Packers offense was able to carry the team make the play offs and defeat the NFC champions in the first round. Aaron Rodgers is the heart and soul of this team. However, there is no one else I would rather have lead my team than Aaron Rodgers.

2. Dallas Cowboys

Quarterback: Dak Preskott
Ranked Defense: 14th

Stephen A. Smith calls them an accident waiting to happen. While the Dallas Cowboys have been subject to some shortcomings, the talent of the team has not been undermined. They still have the best offensive line in the league. They still have Ezekiel Elliot (who could have had the greatest Rookie season of all time), Das Preskott (who could have also had the greatest Rookie season of all time), Jason Witten at tight end and Dez Bryant at wide receiver. The only issue with the Dallas Cowboys is their defensive presence in high leverage moments. The Cowboys have shown a recent history of not being able to close out big moments. If they are able to finish and win games, the Cowboys can be a lethal threat to the league.

1. New England Patriots

Quarterback: Tom Brady
Ranked Defense: 8th

Tom Brady and Bill Bellicheck. What else do I have to say? They are the reigning NFL Super Bowl champions and are the best dynamic duo in NFL History. Bellicheck’s superior coaching skills and Brady’s play as the Quarterback of the New England Patriots have helped the organization reach success very frequently.
