These cookies date back to 1930. Ruth Graves Wakefield invented the confection by mistake. She was baking cookies for her guest at her husband’s inn. She ran out of baker’s chocolate, so improvised with some a block of Nestlé semi-sweet chocolate that she chopped up and sprinkled across the dough. She expected the bits of chocolate to melt right into the cookies, but instead, the chips remained atop the cookie. Hence, the chocolate chip cookie.

Abraham Parnes, a 43-year-old man accused of performing a lewd act during a showing of the children’s movie “The Emoji Movie” on July 28, has been identified by police.

Howell, New Jersey police say that Parnes, 43, turned himself in on the evening of Wednesday, August 4, an anonymous tip led authorities to his identification.

According to a woman at the Xscape movie theater on Route 9 in Howell, New Jersey, Parnes was there with his hands down his pants, which were unbuttoned and unzipped. He was sitting in the back row of the movie theatre.

The unidentified woman reported Parnes to the theater’s manager, who asked Parnes to leave. According to police, Parnes is a resident of Lakewood and Brooklyn, and was charged with lewdness.

Parnes was released on a summons. That is all the information available at this time, this post will be updated should more become available.

We are just a little over three weeks away from the epic boxing match between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, but there seems to be a little bit of turmoil in the McGregor Camp.

Former boxing champ Paulie Malignaggi, who has been training and sparring with McGregor is the anticipation of his August 26th bout, is no longer going to be training The Notorious One.

Last night, a member of McGregor’s posse leaked a photo Malignaggi getting knocked down during a sparring session with Conor. The caption of the photo read “that Oh My God” power as a reference to when Paulie Malignaggi told Jim Rome he didn’t think McGregor “had Oh my God power”.

“It’s definitely above average. I wouldn’t say it’s ‘Oh my God’ power,” Malignaggi told CBS Sports Radio. “This is what I call ‘Oh my God’ power, even in sparring, and you’re like ‘Oh my God,’ like wow, this guy really hits hard.

I wanted to be part of this event, but I didn’t want to become the story, and that’s what this has turned into,” Malignaggi told ESPN by phone Thursday night. “I won’t release any information about his game plan or what he’s working on — I wouldn’t do that. But this has become a fiasco. It’s a circus.

“And I do want that sparring video released. The UFC’s PI definitely has that video. I understand it can’t come out now, but Conor, if you have any balls, release what really happened.”

Malignaggi took issue with this and it’s easy to see why. The guy is spending his time helping McGregor train only to have his team turn around and blast him? It’s a shitty move on McGregor’s part.

While it’s probably too late in the process for Malignaggi’s exit to have any real impact on McGregor, it’s just a bad look by his team to essentially diss someone who’s trying to help.

Drawing inspiration from the 2004 hit movie “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story” featuring Vince Vaughn, Christine Taylor and Ben Stiller, ESPNU will become ESPN8: “The Ocho” on Tuesday, Aug. 8, or more appropriately, 8/8.

For one day only, the faux network will feature a line-up of unconventional sporting events ranging from Disc Golf to Ultimate Trampoline Dodgeball and Firefighters World Challenge playing off the mantra highlighted in the movie: “Bringing you the Finest in Seldom Seen Sports”.

Beginning at midnight on August 8 (8/8 … get it?!) ESPN 8 ‘The Ocho’ will air offbeat, alternative events, including:

2016 American Disc Golf Championship: A sport that involves players throwing a disc at a target while adhering to rules similar to golf.

-2016 WFTDA Roller Derby Championships: A game involving two teams of five women each, in which each team is on offense and defense simultaneously as they assist the designated “jammer” around the track. The jammer scores points for her team by lapping members of the opposing team.

-2016 Sky Zone Ultimate Trampoline Dodgeball: Traditional dodgeball with the added element of players using trampolines during play.

-Firefighters World Challenge XXV: Firefighters from around the world compete in teams to complete a series of five tasks including climbing a five-story tower, dragging hoses and rescuing a life-sized, 175 lb. “victim”, all while wearing full bunker gear.

-2016 Kabaddi World Cup Final: A contact team sport that originated in India involving two teams and unique rule. The goal is for each team’s “raider” to tag as many of the opposing team’s players as possible and return to his/her home half all while taking just a single breath.

-2017 Championship of Bags: A cornhole tournament for a variety of skill levels.

-Moxie Games: An uncanny, new and amazing event which combines a variety of sports into one, such as dodgeball and juggling, martial arts and volleyball, and table tennis and soccer

-U.S. Open Ultimate Championship: A self-officiating competition with two teams on a field similar to a football field, but the object used is a disc. The objective of the game is to catch a pass in the opponent’s end zone.

The NFL season starts on September 7, and with that comes fans that are giddy with anticipation at finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Every year, the start of a new season brings renewed hope that every NFL team (even the Cleveland Browns) has a chance to take a decisive step forward towards greatness and ultimately a Super Bowl victory. However, before that excitement can begin to mount, fans and their respective franchises will be eager to get a closer look at their talented draft picks. While not every rookie will have a prominent impact for their confident organizations, there will be a decisive few that will immediately contribute to their teams success from start to finish.

5. Jarrad Davis, ILB, Detroit Lions

Although the Lions could have addressed numerous needs in the draft, they chose to select a middle linebacker that could be one of the best defensive rookies this season. Along with being a dynamic run defender, Davis has the quickness to easily slip blocks and can put constant pressure on the quarterback. While Davis may not be the most bulky linebacker to come out of the draft, he has a high football IQ and a strong motor, which should allow to him to excel right away for the Lions

4. O.J. Howard, TE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

After slipping to the Buccaneers as the 19th pick in the first round, it stands to reason that the immensely talented tight end will have a massive chip on his shoulder coming into his first NFL season. Howard has the size and strength to be a fantastic run blocker along with the hands and quickness to be a reliable receiver in the Buccaneers high-octane offense. While veterans such as Greg Olsen and Travis Kelce have rightly garnered the majority of the limelight as dominant receiving tight ends, Howard will look to dethrone both of these athletes in his rookie season.

3. Christian McCaffrey, RB, Carolina Panthers

Given how severely abused Cam Newton was last year, it made sense for the Panthers to acquire a dynamic back that could be a go to receiving threat when Newton works out of the pocket. His natural vision and unwavering work ethic will give McCaffrey a distinct advantage over the bigger, one trick pony rushers coming into the season. McCaffrey has already displayed his quickness in training camp, as he put linebacker Luke Keuchly on roller skates during a drill. If this display is any indication of McCaffrey’s regular season output on the field, opposing defenses will have their work cut out for them on every play.

2. Haason Reddick, ILB, Arizona Cardinals

Going by Reddick’s sheer athleticism alone, it seems almost a forgone conclusion that the versatile linebacker will be a prominent playmaker from week 1 onward. However, when you combine his impressive physical attributes with his cerebral approach to the game, it would not be hyperbolic to suggest that Reddick could be one of the best defenders in the NFL this year. A former walk on safety at Temple that quickly made the adjustment to becoming a dynamic linebacker, Reddick has the distinct advantage over other linebackers as being a master of many and could line up in a variety of ways for the Cardinals. Barring a serious injury, Reddick will make his presence known as a defensive threat that is not to be taken lightly.

1. Jamal Adams, S, New York Jets

Although many took issue with Adams’ comments about dying on the field, from a talent perspective Adams has the capabilities to play all over the field in the Jets secondary. He has the quickness and vision to effectively stop the run coupled with the strength to play tight man coverage against tight ends and slot receivers. While Adams will not be playing for a winning franchise this year, this will give him a fantastic opportunity to display his versatility in the secondary and set the tone for an organization that is looking to build around their next defensive leader.

While this weekend’s episode of Game of Thrones, “The Spoils of War”, appeared online early this morning, The Verge has reported that this leak was not a part of the hack from earlier this week.

According to The Verge, sources familiar with HBO’s security say that a leak from a distribution partner is the source of “The Spoils of War” appearing online.

The report says that the distribution partner responsible for the leak is Star India, as the company’s logo appears watermarked one the leaked episode. Due to the fact that HBO struggled to run its own branch in India, they sold distribution rights to Star India in 2015.

Early this week, hackers reportedly stole 1.5 terabytes of data, however, they only published scripts for upcoming episodes.

HBO was subject to a security breach earlier this week, allowing hackers to reportedly obtain 1.5 terabytes of stolen data from the company’s US servers. Sources familiar with HBO’s security leak tell The Verge that this was not related to this episode leak. This latest episode has leaked from a distribution partner and not as a direct result of the recent HBO security breach. Hackers have so far only published script outlines on the web, rather than full episodes.

HBO has had to battle with Game of Thrones leaks a number of times in the past. The first four episodes of season 5 leaked online, thanks to advance screeners that are sent out to members of the press. A HBO subsidiary also released a season 6 episode a day early. HBO decided to scrap screeners for season 7, but that hasn’t stopped an episode leaking from a distribution partner. The Verge has reached out to HBO for comment, and we’ll update you accordingly.

Welcome to Tax Free Weekend! A large handful of states are participating in this three day special. Many shoppers will be able to buy clothing and back-to-school items without the burden of a sales tax. Keep in mind that each state has their own regulations for this weekend free from certain sales taxes. Not everything is covered, even clothing and back-to-school items have their price limits.

Parents and savvy shoppers alike will be able to save on Tax Free Weekend. This time, they’ll be able to purchase clothes and school supplies at a slightly cheaper rate. This weekend is functioning off of the theory that slashing consumer taxes will lead to greater investments into the economy by consumers. It’ll also help your average shopper save a few bucks.

By the way, hats off to the cashiers. You’ll have to deal with a probable storm of customers looking to give away their hard-earned cash for tax free items. It’s what our forefathers fought for, dammit!

Let’s take a quick at the state’s who are giving a full-fledged salute to freedom on Tax Free Weekend…

Who are the states that are participating in Tax Free Weekend?

1. Arkansas: Aug. 5-6
2. Florida: August 4-6
3. Iowa: Aug. 4-5
4. Missouri: Aug. 4-6
5. New Mexico: Aug. 4-6
6. Ohio: Aug. 4-6
7. Oklahoma: Aug. 4-6
8. South Carolina: Aug. 4-6
9. Virginia: Aug. 4-6

More states will be participating in a weekend free of certain sales taxes. However, these states celebrate Tax Free Weekend on completely different dates. For example, Connecticut celebrates more of a “Tax Free Week” from August 20-26. Massachusetts, on the other hand, only celebrates this occasion for two days during August 19 and 20. Meanwhile, Maryland will be giving their consumers a sales tax break for certain items, from August 13-19.

“The Lone Star State” known as Texas will be celebrating Tax Free Weekend on a different date as well. Old ‘Tex will be kick off this special event on August 11 and conclude this deal on the 13th.

Customers from each state will be looking to wrangle up some deals…

What items will qualify for Tax Free Weekend?

Every state has its own particular rules and deals when it comes to this special weekend for the customers. Obviously, not everything is covered under this special sales tax free occasion. It’s not an anything goes event…

Keep in mind that states say that’ll not include sales tax for “clothing up to $100.” But this isn’t based on the total price of your purchase, but pertains to a price limit for sales tax exclusion only on particular items. Therefore, if your shirt cost $110, there will be a sales tax included. However, if you buy two pairs of pants worth $99 each, you won’t pay a sales tax (even though, you’re technically buying something more expensive than a one $110 shirt).

Here’s a list of what items will qualify for sales tax exemption per state. I’ve also included states that will celebrate Tax Free Weekend on a later date in August.

There will be plenty of customers ransacking shelves in stories across the nation. Remember to be extra courteous to the cashiers who will be assisting with each transaction. They work hard and aren’t paid much. Plus, they’ll have extra work to deal with on Tax Free Weekend. And many will not be sufficiently compensated for going above and beyond the call of duty.

Cashiers already have to put up with enough sh*t. Tell them to have a good day and move on…

A bomb was discovered in a major Puerto Rican airport, causing the immediate shutdown and evacuation of the facility. A person carried the bomb into Terminal B security checking area, where the yet-to-be-identified suspect was apprehended and taken into custody by authorities.

At 11:30 A.M. local time, the suspect holding the bomb was arrested.

Aerostar is the company that manages the Luis Munoz Marin airport. The chief operating officer Nelman Nevares said, “The central security point was closed in response to a possible explosive article, inside a passenger’s hand luggage.”

Nevares also said that the incident roused the attention of emergency security protocol and the FBI. Both the regular police and the department’s explosive unit arrived on the scene.

“The central terminal (B) was evacuated, the spaces were closed off the counters,” Nevares said, also mentioning that the incident had a ripple effect delaying flights from American Airlines and Southwest Airlines.

At about 12:30 P.M. local time, the airport reopened while workers and commuters resumed their daily objectives.

“We are now recovering normalcy. There is a rather heavy operation, but we are regaining order, said Nevares. “Already the authorities gave us the OK to re-operate normally.”

A spokesperson for Puerto Rico police said: “The apparent explosive device has been removed for analysis and they normalize operations at the Luis Munoz Marin airport.”

The town of Nipton was founded on February 9, 1905 on the southern border between California and Nevada. You’ve probably heard of Nipton if you’ve played the post-apocalyptic video game series Fallout. This town use to be booming as a result of the gold rush. But now, the population has dwindled to only 20 citizens. Now, Nipton may return to its glory days. But this time, it’s green gold they’re after!

For $5 million, American Green receives 120 acres of land, including an Old West-style hotel, a school building, mineral baths, a few houses, an RV park, and a coffee shop. This pot production company has some very ambitious ideas, as they plan on transforming a California ghost town into “an energy-independent, cannabis-friendly hospitality destination.”

Since cannabis was officially legalized for recreational purposes in California, a green rush may be on the horizon for The Golden State. American Green believes they can transform Nipton in a huge tourist attraction for pot smokers in both Cali and Nevada. The ghost town is only a short drive from major cities. To get to Nipton, you’ll have to drive about three hours by car from Los Angeles or only one hour from Las Vegas. The town lies on a railway near the Mojave National Preserve. It might just turn into the mecca of marijuana.

American Green project manager Stephen Shearin said, “We thought that showing that there was a viable means of having a cannabis-friendly municipality and further making it energy independent could be a way of really inspiring folks to say, ‘Why can’t we do that here?’

Shearin’s intention is to “create a community that is accepting and understanding” of the use of cannabis. He says, “It’s about creating an environment where people come to work and share in a community.”

Companies that specialize in selling munchies-related products will likely be coming out in droves if this plan turns out to be successful.

By the way, I wonder what Caesar’s Legion thinks about all this… No. I won’t end this article on a Fallout reference.

A majority of Californians voted to legalize recreational uses of marijuana on November 8, 2016. This direct democracy initiative is known as Proposition 64, a.k.a. the Adult Use of Marijuana Act. Roughly 57% of voters chose “yes” for Prop. 64, while only 43% voted “no.” As a result, the Golden State has legalized the sale, manufacturing and distribution of cannabis in both a solid and liquid form.
