As if New York City didn’t have enough shit to deal with, apparently the squirrels are turning on us now too.

According to various reports, a particularly vicious squirrel has been terrorizing residents of Prospect Park, New York.

Speaking to ABC, a 7-year-old girl said she was attacked by a squirrel that is terrorizing a park in Brooklyn, New York. A warning has been sent out to visitors of Prospect Park about the aggressive squirrel.

The New York City Health Department has cautioned anyone who was bitten by a squirrel in the last two weeks to get checked for rabies. One squirrel victim, Leku Percival, says he was feeding the squirrel when it bit him on the hand. He is convinced that it is the same squirrel that has been menacing people in Prospect Park.

Our sister station WABC spoke to another victim, 7-year-old Maria Guerrerom and her family on Sunday, and the story they told was shocking. The family says the squirrel leaped into the air and sank its teeth into the child’s arm, entirely unprovoked. When Guerrero’s dad heard her screams, he was able to pry the animal’s jaws open, and throw the squirrel onto the sidewalk.

Amazingly, the squirrel came back and tried to attack again, twice, before climbing into a nearby tree.
Guerrero is being treated for rabies as a precaution even though rabies in squirrels in unheard of in the State of New York.

So far, at least five people have been attacked, and New York city officials have said the squirrel’s behavior has been ‘concerning.’

Leonard Benitez, a Florida man, has been charged with holding his elderly neighbors hostage after he pulled out a gun and held them against their will.

After Benitez, 45, asked to borrow a cup of salt from Louis and Irene Rosen in their Tamarac, Florida home, he then demanded that the 99-year-old and his 70-year-old wife pay him $50,000.

According to Gina Carter, a spokeswoman for the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the 45-year-old pistol whipped Louis in the head.

The couple was sitting on the back porch when Broward Sheriff’s detectives say Leonard Benitez approached them, saying he was staying at a home nearby and asked for salt to cook with. After the Rosens obliged, Benitez began acting erratically, pulled out a gun and a knife and demanded $50,000.

The Rosens said they feared for their lives. The couple didn’t want to elaborate on all of what transpired, but after hours of being held hostage, Irene, who is much more mobile than her husband, was able to run out of the house to get help. Louis was still inside.

At some point, Louis was pistol-whipped in the head. Then, Benitez ran back a few doors down to where he was staying. The 99-year-old was left with staples in his head, but alive.

A SWAT team showed up to take Benitez into custody.

On Sunday, July 23, a Broward Sheriff’s Office judge instructed Benitez to stay away from the Rosen family.

He was arrested on charges of home invasion, battery, false imprisonment, and kidnapping and is being held without bond in jail.

Given the current spectacle that is modern Hollywood, it’s rare that a blockbuster movie has the amount of heart and spirirt that Dunkirk had.

Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk tells the true story of the Battle of Dunkirk, where thousands of ordinary British citizens sailed their personal boats across the English channel to help evacuate Allied soldiers trapped in northern France.

And while the film is serving as a first-time history lesson for most movie-goers, there are some in the audience who already lived through it.

One of those people is Ken Sturdy, a 97-year-old Battle of Dunkirk veteran who was brought to tears after watching the film.

“I thought I could see my old friends again,” he told Canadian TV station Global News. “A lot of them died in the war. I went in a convoy in the North Atlantic and I lost so many of my buddies.”

At the 1940 battle, Sturdy was a 20-year-old signalman with the United Kingdom Royal Navy, he said in the interview. Sturdy helped coordinate the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk.

“I had the privilege to see that film tonight,” he said. “I never thought I would see that again. It was just like I was there again.”

And as most 97-year-old veterans of war tend to do, Sturdy said something remarkably insightful about the nature of man following his viewing of the film:

“I cried because it’s never the end,” he said. “The human species, we are so intelligent. We do astonishing things. We can fly to the moon. But we still do stupid things.”

Unfortunately for all of us, Sturdy is right. But fortunately for all of us, there will always be men like Sturdy to fight the good fight.

So thank you for everything, Ken Sturdy.

There is an active shooter situation in Newark, Ohio near North 21st Street. Early reports indicate that there are multiple injuries.

According to the Licking County Sheriff’s Office, they are assisting Newark Police after an active shooter was reported on North 21st Street and Log Pond Drive, near the Bob Evans restaurant. There is also a car crash at the scene.

One person has reportedly been killed.

Witnesses say that one person was shot at the intersection, and there were several accidents. Police have not released any information about possible victims.

The original call came in around 10:45 AM local time. So far, there is no description of the suspect, or whether the incident is terror related.

Police are treating the scene as an active shooter situation.

While authorities won’t confirm where the shooting happened, they say it is near North 21st and Log Pond Road. That is an intersection with several businesses, just south of Deo Drive.

Photos from witnesses show a large scene at the intersection, with part of North 21st Street shut down. There is also a crash at the scene.

One of the most dramatic fall-from-grace stories in the NBA, point guard Derrick Rose was once considered an elite talent that could potentially usher in another winning dynasty for the Chicago Bulls. Despite going to three All-Star games from 2010-2012, Rose has since faded into the background due to several debilitating injuries. While Rose had an impressive season with the New York Knicks last year (18 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 4.4 APG), the 28 year old point man is still a free agent. Given what Rose accomplished early in his career, the question still remains of how much is the determined athlete actually worth?

Derrick Rose’s Net Worth as of 2017: $70 Million

How did the once coveted point guard get there? And how have his initial accomplishments enabled him to still have this type of wealth? Let’s find out.

2008-2014

After being drafted 1st overall by the Chicago Bulls in the 2008 NBA Draft, Rose emphatically proved that he was worth the top selection. Rose became the first Bulls draftee since Michael Jordan to score 10 or more points in his first 10 games and earned Rookie of the Month Honors in November and December. Rose played in every game but one during his rookie season, and earned Rookie of the Year honors for his contributions as a clutch scorer and superb ball facilitator. In his playoff debut against the Boston Celtics, Rose became the first rookie since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to score 36 points in his first playoff game. Although the Bulls would eventually lose to the Celtics in seven games, the future seemed bright for the tenacious and talented superstar.

Despite missing the 2009 preseason with a ankle injury, Rose was ultimately able to appear in the Bulls regular season opener, although his minutes on the court were limited. However, as Rose’s ankle healed his play on the court improved, which earned the second year player his first All-star selection. While the Bulls made the playoffs again, they were quickly dispatched by the Cleveland Cavaliers in five games with Rose averaging 26.8 points and 7.2 assists throughout the series.

After being held in check last year by his ankle injury, Rose came into the 2010 season rejuvenated and determined to prove that he could be the best player in the NBA. Not only was Rose at the top his game scoring wise (25 PPG), his defensive capabilities were also much improved as he averaged 1 steal per game throughout the season. Rose’s dynamic dominance throughout the season earned the Bulls a number one seed in the playoffs while Rose would go on to win MVP honors. The Bulls would go on to reach the Eastern Conference Finals in the playoffs where they were stifled by a Lebron James led Miami Heat squad.

A month into the 2011 season, the Bulls signed Rose to a five-year contract extension worth $94.8 million, which took up 30 percent of the Bulls salary cap. Throughout the first half of the season, Rose played very well as he averaged 21.8 PPG and established a new career high in assists per game with 7.9. However, Rose became limited on the court during the second half of the season due to various injuries. However, the worst was yet to come as Rose injured his knee during the first round of the playoffs against he Philadelphia 76ers. An MRI revealed that Rose had torn his ACL in his left knee and would require surgery to repair the the ligament.

After surgery in the offseason, Rose was forced to miss the entire 2012 season to recover and rehabilitate his surgically repaired knee. Still, the Bulls found a way to make the playoffs and reached the second round where they lost to the Miami Heat.

After being away from basketball for more than a year, Rose was hungry to return to form to help the Bulls become serious contenders in the Eastern Conference in 2013. In his first (and only) 10 games of the season, Rose struggled to shoot from the field (35.4 FG%) and had severe issues securing the ball. On November 22, Rose injured his knee in a matchup against the Portland Trailblazers. This time, Rose tore the MCL in his right knee and had to miss the rest of the season.

After going through surgery and rehab once again in the offseason, Rose was able to play in the Bulls season opener against the New York Knicks in 2014. Although Rose was able to play in 51 games, he was held out for four to six weeks after February 24 as he needed another round of surgery on his right knee. During the playoffs, Rose showed glimpses of his past potential as he averaged 21.5 PPG in the Bulls first round playoff series against the Milwaukee Bucks. While Rose and the Bulls fought hard to take an initial 2-1 series lead against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round, they would drop the next three games and lose the series.

He reportedly earned $18.8 million in 2014.

2015-Present

During the 2015 season, Rose was healthy for the majority of the year and averaged 16.4 PPG to go along with 4.4 APG. While Rose was able to finish the season without missing long stretches of playing time, his once dominant skill set as both a passer and scorer were noticeably diminished.

After being traded to the New York Knicks during the 2016 off season, Rose was finally forced to realize that he was no longer an essential franchise player. Although Rose was consistently accurate as a shooter and solid as a passer, he was once again hit by the injury bug as he tore the MCL in his left knee in April. While Rose believed that he would be able to find a home fairly quickly in free agency, the injury plagued point guard is still a free agent and is currently in talks with Cleveland and the Los Angeles Lakers in hopes of getting another chance to prove himself.

While there are a plethora of devastating fall-from-grace stories in the NBA, none have been as heart breaking since Rose entered the league. At one point, many believed Rose could be the next Michael Jordan in the sense that he could consistently lead a iconic franchise back to prominence. Sadly, Rose sustained one season ending injury after another, effectively stifling his development into becoming one of the best players in the game. While Rose will undoubtedly find a new franchise to play for soon, his worth as an elite talent will never be the same.

Franz Wrousis is allegedly the man responsible for attacking five people with a chainsaw in the Switzerland town of Schaffhausen.

According to police spokeswoman Cindy Beer, the town has been locked down, and police and ambulances are on the scene and rescue helicopters are circling overhead.

At a news conference, police said the attacker was on the run, and a large number of officers had been deployed in the area. While the suspect has been identified, he currently remains at large. Police are currently searching for the suspect, who is being described as being 6′ 2″ tall, with an unkempt appearance, and is believed to be driving a white Volkswagen van.

Police have confirmed that the attack was not terror related.

A truck driver may face the death penalty, after a smuggling operation of undocumented immigrants goes horribly wrong. Firefighters were called to the parking lot of a San Antonio Walmart just after midnight to investigate a report of “multiple people in the trailer portion of an 18 wheeler. First arriving units found a number of people in the back of this trailer all in varying degrees of medical distress,” according to a statement by U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas Richard Durbin.

James Mathew Bradley Jr., 60, of Clearwater, Florida, has been charged with illegally transporting immigrants for financial gain resulting in death, which can potentially carry the death sentence if convicted. A total of 38 undocumented individuals were found smuggled in the back of a piping hot trailer he parked in a Walmart parking lot.

Eight people died inside Bradley’s trailer. Two later died in the hospital. While, the 28 other undocumented persons have been transported to a local medical center to treat heart-related illnesses resulting from the hot smuggling operation. Seventeen victims had life-threatening injuries while thirteen others suffered from non-life threatening injuries.

The eight people who died on the scene were said to have passed away from heat exposure/asphyxiation according to police.

“San Antonio firefighters and police responded to a horrific scene this morning on the southwest side of town. They discovered an alien smuggling venture gone horribly wrong. Eight immigrants were found dead. At least twenty more were in serious condition. All were victims of ruthless human smugglers indifferent to the well-being of their fragile cargo,” said Durbin.

The ages of the surviving victims mostly include 20-30 old undocumented persons and two school children. Acting ICE Director Thomas Homan told the Associated Press that some victims claim to have originated from Mexico. According to interviews with the survivors, more than 100 people are believed to have been smuggled inside that truck at some point.

“Late last night we got a call from a Walmart employee to conduct a welfare check on a tractor trailer that was parked in the lot here. He was approached by someone from that truck who was asking for water,” San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said at a press conference. “He came back with the water, called the police, we arrived on the scene and found 8 people dead in the back of the trailer.”

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas released a statement reporting that Bradley claims he didn’t know anyone was inside his truck.

“An officer encountered a tractor-trailer behind the store, finding a number of people standing and lying in the rear of the trailer, and the driver, Bradley, in the cab. Bradley said he was transporting the trailer from Schaller, Iowa, to Brownsville, Texas,” the statement said. “He denied knowing there were people in the trailer, and discovered them only when he exited the vehicle to relieve himself. He said he attempted to administer aid to them.”

One complaint states that Bradley didn’t call 911 even after witnessing several dead smuggled people lying inside his trailer. Bradley claims to have only discovered the victims after he had returned from relieving himself. He claims that he was startled when he opened the trailer, as Spanish-speaking people poured out, knocking him to the floor.

On Saturday, temperatures exceeded 100 degrees outside, and the air conditioner was not functioning inside the trailer. One passenger told authorities that he paid $5,500 for the trip across the border from Mexico to the United States. According to another passenger, the smuggled people took turns breathing through a hole in the truck.

5. First Career Knockout vs. Brad Bernard

Every legend must start somewhere and Jones’ legacy began on April 12, 2008 when he fought against Brad Bernard. Despite not being the fanciest knockout, this finish holds a ton of significance because it set the Jones train in motion. For that reason alone, I put this knockout at number five.

4. Knockout vs. Moyses Gabin

Prior to this fight, Jones was 5-0 in his career and looked to become the USKBA Light Heavyweight Champion. In order to do so, Jones had to defeat Moyses Gabin. Jones destroyed Gabin in the fight and knocked him out in the second round to win his first career championship belt. This fight is extremely significant because this was the fight that propelled him to an entrance in the UFC.

3. Knockout vs. Brandon Vera

On March 21, 2010, Jones was given his first UFC main event fight and was scheduled to fight fellow UFC Light Heavyweight Brandon Vera who boasted an MMA record of 11-5 at the time. Jones was coming off of his only career loss and was looking to improve his record to 10-1. This fight showed the world that Jones would, one day, be competing for the championship belt at some point in his career. significant because this was the fight that propelled him to an entrance in the UFC.

2. Knockout vs. Chael Sonnen

On April 27, 2013, Jones was asked to defend his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship belt against UFC legend Chael Sonnen. Sonnen was 28-12-1 at the time and looked to use his wrestling prowess against Jones to win the belt. Unfortunately for him, Jones managed to pick Sonnen up and slam him down to the mat where Jones then got the top mount and knocked him out. The knockout itself is not that special. However, the significance behind it makes this knockout worthy of the number two slot. Jones reasserted himself as being, arguably, the best UFC fighter of all time by starting his career with an 18-1 record and showed his competitors that he is practically unbeatable in the octagon. This was his fifth consecutive title defense and is, surprisingly, the last knockout recorded by Jones in his career which gives this knockout a little extra significance.

1. Knockout vs. Shogun Rua

The number one knockout in Jon Jones’ career has to be his Light Heavyweight Championship victory over UFC legend Shogun Rua. At UFC 128, Jones became the youngest champion in the UFC history by becoming the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion at age 23. In order to become champion, Jones had to defeat Shogun Rua who boasted a career record of 19-4 at the time. Jones dominated the fight and hit Rua with a vicious combo including a knee to the face that knocked Rua out in the third round. This knockout has to be the best in Jones’ career due to its significance as well as the knockout combo itself.

Attention everyone still on the Lavar Ball bandwagon: get off now before it’s too late and you become an asshole by association.

If you didn’t already know, in addition to being a professional asshole, Ball is an AAU coach, which means there are actual human beings in the world who allow their children to take instruction, direction, and advice from LaVar Ball. I’m not sure it’s even called DYFS anymore, but whatever it’s name is, they need to alerted because these parents are clearly unfit to serve.

Anyway, while LaVar was coaching said AAU team, he had a little bit of professional crossover and started acting like an asshole, eventually receiving a technical foul. LaVar did what LaVar does: he made a scene and pulled his team off the court.

Only one problem — they were up by nine (NINE) f*cking points.

The incident occurred during a playoff game at the Double Pump Best of Summer Tournament in Anaheim, California. The game was ruled a forfeit, giving the victory to the opposing team. Ball’s team, which includes his youngest son, LaMelo, was winning 69-60 at the time of the forfeit, according to USA Today Sports.

An Oklahoma school district has paid $125,000 to a family after Jennifer Caswell, a former middle school English teacher, was sentenced to ten years in prison for having sex with an eighth-grade student in her classroom.

Caswell, 31, publicly admitted to having a sexual relationship with the 15-year-old boy. In May 2015, she was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The settlement comes after the boy’s father filed a lawsuit alleging that Hollis Middle School played a part in covering up Caswell’s crime. The father claims that the school forced his son to keep his mouth shut.

The family and the boy have not been identified because the boy was a minor and a victim of a sex crime. Caswell, who was formerly known by her married name Saxton, told Dr. Phil ‘I didn’t force anything. I didn’t manipulate. I didn’t take advantage.’

Hollis Public Schools agreed to pay $125,000 to settle claims that the school participated in covering up Caswell’s sexual abuse, said Charles Watts, an attorney for the victim’s family.

The student’s father sued Caswell, Hollis schools and several school district officials in 2015. The father claimed in a federal lawsuit that his son’s grades and extracurricular activities suffered as a result of the abuse. The student also experienced emotional distress and humiliation when his peers found out, the lawsuit stated.

In a sworn deposition, the father testified that high school Principal Marty Webb accused his son of lying and told him his son “needed to keep his mouth closed” when rumors began to spread about Caswell’s relationship with the boy.

Furthermore, the boy’s father claimed school district officials allowed Caswell to resign while keeping her teaching credentials.

In May of 2015, Harmon County District Judge Richard Darby sentenced Caswell to 15 years in prison, with five years suspended. Caswell, who is the mother of a 6-year-old son, will become eligible for parole in six and a half years.

It would be gratuitous at this point to say that Conor McGregor has taken the UFC world by storm and has risen to be one of the most influential fighters to date, he has shown us that. His press conference banter, his immeasurable confidence, and most importantly his ability to bring what comes out of his mouth onto the mat of the octagon is a large part of why his upcoming blockbuster fight with Floyd Mayweather was able to be be set in motion.

To coalesce the Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts world was perceived as unimaginable. Sure, there have been instances where boxers try there hand at mixed martial arts, but look how that turns out.

I will say this though, in the Tim Sylvia vs. Ray Mercer Fight, both fighters agreed to keep the UFC battle to a boxing match, and it ended pretty quickly in favor of the boxer ending after a total of nine seconds.

For there to be a fight where a Mixed Martial Artist steps out of his element and into the boxing ring with one of the most decorated, and arguably best boxers of all time (Floyd Mayweather), there needs to be an opponent who can make the fight entertaining. There needs to be an opponent who can make the audience think that maybe at any moment the fight could turn sour for even the best boxer, and due to his vicious striking abilities and eased poise while doing so, that opponent is undeniably Conor McGregor.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane. Coming in at number one is the infamous McGregor/Aldo fight. This will never die down. She was born Thien Thanh Thi Nguyen on October 24, 1981, in Singapore. Nguyen was discovered by a Playboy scout at the age of 19. She was named Playboy’s Cyber Girl of the week on April 22, 2002.
