Pi Kappa Phi at the University of Charleston is at the center of a misconduct investigation after a 21-year-old sophomore alleged he was beaten by his fellow fraternity brothers at a house party in April.

Similarly, the Eta Lambda chapter of Beta Theta Pi was also shut down due to various violations, including hosting unregistered parties with alcohol, some of which was purchased using fraternity funds, marijuana use and hazing involving personal servitude and calisthenics.

The violations and subsequent shutting downs come just a couple of months after the first wave of fraternity shutdowns at C of C.

In September, members of the college Kappa Alpha Order agreed to close their chapter just months after the 2014 chapter president and others were arrested for their role in a major off-campus drug ring. Kind of hard to defend that, but drug dealing and being in a fraternity are not mutually exclusive. I knew plenty of drug dealers in college that never went anywhere near a frat house.

Prompted by “a series of dangerous behaviors … ranging from disruptive parties out in the community this month to recent medical transports related to extreme intoxication,” McConnell instituted an alcohol ban at all fraternity and sorority events last fall.

According to Alicia Caudill, executive vice president for student affairs, the ban was lifted “after all the fraternities and sororities complied with the conditions imposed by President McConnell and the Division of Student Affairs.”

“The alcohol ban sent a strong message to our fraternities and sororities that the College of Charleston does not tolerate dangerous or illegal behavior,” she said in a statement to The Post and Courier. “The safety and well-being of our students is always our first concern.”

In addition to the suspension and loss of recognition, members of Beta Theta Pi were forced to write a letter to McConnell apologizing for their “willful noncompliance” with the president’s mandate for alcohol-free events.

All of these fraternal suspensions are due to an alcohol ban instituted at all fraternity and sorority events following “a series of dangerous behaviors … ranging from disruptive parties out in the community this month to recent medical transports related to extreme intoxication.”

Palmetto Senior High School in Pinecrest, Florida, has been placed on lockdown as police search for a possible robbery suspect in the area.

What’s Happening?

UPDATE: The lockdown has been lifted and the suspect has been apprehended.

Officials confirmed that a perimeter has been set up in the area of SW 77th Avenue and 120th Street in Pinecrest, Florida, which includes Palmetto Senior High School. It was set up after Coral Gables Police contacted Pinecrest Police in hopes of finding the alleged suspect from a robbery in their city.

MDCPS Superintendent Alberto Carvalho tweeted that the “high school is safe” at this time. Pincrest Police said the lockdown was done out of precaution. Coral Gables Police are also on the scene.

Palmetto Senior High School

Miami Palmetto Senior High School is a public high school located at 7460 S.W. 118th Street in Pinecrest, Florida. The school is on 23 acres in southwest Miami-Dade County, and is part of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools district. The school was established in September 1958 and services 2,884 students.

Miami Norland Senior High is Miami Palmetto’s sister school by original blueprints. The school has been named a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Its principal is Victoria Dobbs.

A shooting with multiple fatalities happened at Gerber Collision and Glass in Orlando on Monday morning.

Police said the situation is contained.

What Happened?

Police are investigating a “multiple fatality” shooting at a business headquarters in Orlando, Florida, according to Captain Angelo Nieves with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office calls the situation “contained and stable,” says CNN affiliate TV station WFTV. The incident was first reported around 8:00 A.M.

The shooter was identified as a “disgruntled employee,” News 6 WKMG/ClickOrlando reported. Five people, including the gunman, were killed in the incident, according to WFTV-Channel 9 and law enforcement officials.

The shooting appeared to take place near the Gerber Collission and Glass Center, in an industrial area on North Forsyth Road near Hanging Moss Road. The roads have been closed off to traffic.

A sister of one of the employees told reporters gathered at the scene that her relative was using the bathroom when she heard a “loud bang.”

Shelley Adams, of South Orlando, said her sister, Shelia McIntyre, told her that when she exited the bathroom, she saw a deceased victim on the ground.

Adams said her sister and others were taken to a nearby fire academy, but Adams didn’t know how many people were with her sister and if they were also employees of the business.

The New York Post reports that the gunman killed four people.

About 25 police vehicles and 70 officers responded to the scene, according to a police spokesperson. An Orange County spokesman confirmed to NBC News that the suspect was dead, but did not specify how that person died.

While it is unclear how many fatalities there are, the shooter, a disgruntled employee, is confirmed to be dead. Unconfirmed reports suggest that five are dead in the attack.

Law enforcement authorities in Florida say there are “multiple fatalities” following a shooting in an industrial area near Orlando.

On its official twitter account Monday morning, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said the “situation” has been contained. Officials say they’ll provide an update as soon as the “info is accurate.”

Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demmings is expected to make a statement soon. Several roads in Orlando were closed as deputies responded to the shooting.

According to a police spokesperson, about 25 police vehicles and 70 officers responded to the scene. Officials said they will provide an update as soon as the “info is accident.” It has been confirmed that the shooter is not on the loose but it is unknown if the shooter had been shot by police or taken into custody.

No further details are available at this time.

The shooting comes almost a year after Orlando was the site of the nation’s worst terror attack since 9/11, when Omar Mateen killed 49 people at the Pulse nightclub on June 12, 2016.

As a Jets fan, one would think that I’d feel bitterness towards Rex Ryan, but in fact, I feel quite the opposite.

It’s unclear how this will affect Rex’s current analyst deal with ESPN, but given the recent slew of bad PR pouring out a Bristol, it’ll be interesting to see how they handle this. How can you lay off dozens of qualified journalists one week, only to pay someone who just got caught in a bar fight millions of dollars? On the other hand, Rex is a rating machine, and ESPN knows that. My guess, given the rapidity of today’s 24-hour news cycle, is that ESPN keeps Rex on board, knowing that come September, everyone will have long forgotten about this incident.

At least 10 students cost themselves admission to Harvard University for the dumbest reason possible: memes. Apparently, the Harvard College Class of 2021 Facebook group wasn’t cool enough for these meme-enthusiasts, so they formed their own space.

A handful of admitted students formed the messaging group—titled, at one point, “Harvard memes for horny bourgeois teens”—on Facebook in late December, according to two incoming freshmen.

In the group, students sent each other memes and other images mocking sexual assault, the Holocaust, and the deaths of children, according to screenshots of the chat obtained by The Crimson. Some of the messages joked that abusing children was sexually arousing, while others had punchlines directed at specific ethnic or racial groups. One called the hypothetical hanging of a Mexican child “piñata time.”

After discovering the existence and contents of the chat, Harvard administrators revoked admissions offers to at least ten participants in mid-April, according to several members of the group. University officials have previously said that Harvard’s decision to rescind a student’s offer is final.

How these morons got into Harvard in the first place is beyond me. Don’t they know that nothing can stay a secret on the internet? You post some dumb shit on Facebook, and even if that group is private, you are going to have to pay the piper. If you think Zuckerberg is going to let his alma mater get disgraced like that, then you dorks have another thing coming!

So let this serve as a lesson to all of you high school seniors getting ready to leave for college. I know it’s tempting to start going crazy, but don’t f*ck it up now. Wonder Woman dropped last week and made $100.5 million domestic in its opening frame, putting to bed any lingering doubts about female-led superhero blockbusters. The movie is unquestionably the most warmly received in Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe and even though we’ll see Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince later this year in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, WB should already be thinking about a direct follow up to her solo adventure.

But what will that movie look like?

1900s-Present

The Princess of Themiscyria is introduced to audiences at the tail end of World War I and then reintroduced in the present day in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. We know that Diana has built a prestigious international artifact business in the ensuing century, but is that all she did? Audiences would undoubtedly enjoy seeing her continuing to assimilate to our world as she carves out a life for herself. Exploring this time in her life would be a great character study and potentially extend the themes touched on in her conversation with Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor about the worthiness of humanity. Given that no one knows about her in BvS, it’s possible she carried out secret superhero missions over the years which would a sequel could weave into real life historical events.

Who’s to say Wonder Woman never popped up in Vietnam or helped save Apollo 13?

Ares

The (admittedly wonky) climax of Wonder Woman saw our heroine seemingly defeat Ares once and for all. If so, killings gods seems like it’s kind of…easy. And with World War II looming on the horizon, it’s not as if his influence was easily shaken off. Though Ares wasn’t a great movie villain, it could be interesting to keep him or his story around in a smaller capacity to help the franchise with its mythological feel. Ares is also the only other living god we’ve seen besides Diana, making him a link to her origins.

Dr. Poison

Again, Wonder Woman didn’t have the best villains, but the movie failed to give a concrete picture of the fate of Dr. Poison. Diana chose not to kill her despite the urgings of Ares and his mustache, so where is the good doctor? Did she escape? Was she captured by allied forces? Will she play a role in WWII? In the comics, Poison had an evil granddaughter that had a run in with Wonder Woman.

Also, didn’t the gas she gave to Ludendorff kind of remind you of Bane’s inhalations from the source material? It would be cool is Dr. Poison played a role in Bane’s rise given that this is a separate continuity from The Dark Knight trilogy.

Themiscyria

Diana’s mother made it pretty clear that she could never return if she chose to leave. But, like, really? If a WWI plane could break that barrier, I have a feeling so can Wonder Woman. And if the Queen meant this as more a metaphorical banishment, script writers can always think of reasons to break ultimatums. Perhaps Diana recruits the Amazonians to combat a new world threat. Either way, mother-daughter family drama usually makes for good viewing. I hope this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Paradise Island.

The Dallas Police Headquarters are on lockdown due to a suspicious bottle with liquid found near the front entrance. The bomb squad is on the scene investigating.

What’s Happening?

Bomb squads are investigating a suspicious bottle with liquid found near the front entrance at the Dallas Police Headquarters.

Sources told NBC 5 the suspicious package was found at the north entrance of the building in the 1400 block of South Lamar Street. It is reportedly a bottle filled with liquid. There are some reports that it also contained a note.

A SWAT team was called in to assist.

Partial evacuations are underway as a precaution. Lamar St. has been closed as police continue to investigate.

An explosives unit, hazmat truck and fire engines all responded to the scene. The streets around the building were also closed as a precaution.

“We are asking that anyone in the vicinity stay clear until the incident is resolved and made safe,” police said.

The Dallas PD have confirmed the suspicious package and partial evacuation.

No further details have been released.

Cam Newton turned 28-years-old on May 11, and to celebrate the occasion, he threw an extravagant birthday bash. He posted a video of the festivities to his Instagram, which was obviously soundtracked by 2 Chainz’ “Birthday Song.”

It looked like a good time, so the Carolina Panthers that weren’t invited were probably a little upset. But instead of pouting about it, a group of Newton’s teammates got revenge by mocking his birthday getaway with a shot-by-shot remake while on a camping trip. Revenge is a dish best served by trolling.

That was terrific. I’m not sure exactly how much time went into making that video, but it had to have taken a lot of effort. Maybe even the equivalent of how long Cam takes to decide on what goofy shit he’s going to wear to a press conference.

Fuller House star Jodie Sweetin has hired a 24/7 security detail following her ex-fiancé ‘s early release from prison. Sweetin, 35, fears that her ex Justin Hodak, seen in Los Angeles over the weekend, may try to approach her after a three-month prison stint for making threats and illegal gun possession.

Hodak, 40, was sentenced to six years with an eight month suspended sentence for the gun charge and for falsifying evidence by threatening a witness with force or implied force. Originally, he was busted for violating a restraining order filed by Sweetin.

On May 5, a judge ordered Hodak to serve 120 days in L.A. County Jail in addition to a 52-week domestic violence course and to stay away from Sweetin for five years.

Credited with time already served in jail, Hodak managed to get released on May 22. It’s believed the writer and producer is unemployed and staying in East LA while he gets his life back on track.

According to DailyMail.com, Kodak is also required to wear an electronic tag which monitors his every move.

A source close to Sweetin told Daily Mail: “Jodie found out that Justin was out and as you can imagine she’s terrified, she’s scared that he might act out and do something crazy to harm her.”

Warner Bros., the studio that produces Netflix’s Fuller House, is paying for the 24/7 private security detail for Sweetin. The armed guards watch her home and follow her during the day.

“She’s got a huge security guard with her all the time so feels a lot safer as a result,” the source said.

Sweetin split from Hodak in March following a massive argument during which Hodak knocked over a seven foot shelving unit in a first of rage.

He was then arrested three times within a nine-day period.

Hodak was first busted on March 18 when Sweetin called the police because he allegedly threatened to commit suicide.

Fans of George R.R. Martin’s book series A Song of Ice & Fire and very dedicated Game of Thrones fans know all about The Prince That Was Promised, a legend/prophecy in both the book and show established histories. For those that are unfamiliar, here’s a quick breakdown courtesy of Uproxx:

According to the servants of R’hllor, a battle has been waged since the beginning of time between the Lord of Light and the Great Other. The last time this battle went down, it was Azor Ahai who defeated the darkness with a magical sword called Lightbringer, forged in the blood of his beloved Nissa Nissa. The prophecy [as Melisandre tells Jon Snow: “When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt to wake dragons out of stone”] foretells that he will be reborn to defeat the Great Other again as The Prince That Was Promised.

Most people think it’s Jon Snow, some think its Daenerys Targaryen and even Tyrion Lannister and Arya Stark have been considered. Whoever is meant to fulfill this grand destiny better reveal themselves soon, because, as Davos rightly points out in the season seven trailer: “If we don’t put aside our enmities and bound together, we will die, and then it won’t matter whose skeleton sits on the Iron Throne.” Damn, Davos coming with that real talk.

As we saw late last season, Winter is officially here and a never-ending horde of undead are advancing on Westeros. Now I’m no expert or anything but that seems more important than which character gets to sit on a really uncomfortable chair. Davos is right to point that out, though a recent theory suggest he may have more to do with it than he knows.

Davos actor Liam Cunningham met Martin for the first time recently and the author told him a secret. “He said, ‘Don’t tell anybody.’ So I’m not,” Cunningham said. “I’d love to tell you, but HBO has a person in the room here, and I don’t know where they are, [but they have a] sniper rifle.”

We know Davos is going to play a crucial role in the wars to come as a member of Jon’s Small Council and as one of the realest dudes on the show. But could he be more than that? Ivory Coast midfielder, Cheick Tioté, dies after collapsing in training. Tioté was 30-years-old. He won the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations with the Ivory Coast national team.

Tioté began his professional career in Belgium with Anderlecht in 2005 before moving to Dutch side FC Twente, where he made 86 appearances and won the Eredivisie league title in the 2009-10 season under manager Steve McClaren. He would eventually joined Newcastle United, and finish his career with Beijing Enterprises.

“It is with deep sadness I confirm that Cheick Tiote sadly passed away earlier today after collapsing in training . We cannot say any more at the moment and we request that his family’s privacy be respected at this difficult time. We ask for all your prayers,” said Beijing Enterprises spokesman Emanuele Palladino.

Tioté died after collapsing during training with his club Beijing Enterprises.

“Tioté’s former club, Newcastle United, released a statement on Tioté’s passing:We are devastated to have learnt of the tragic passing of Cheick Tioté at the age of just 30.
The thoughts of everyone at Newcastle United are with Cheick’s family, friends, teammates and everyone connected with the clubs he represented.

The Ivory Coast midfielder, who made more than 150 appearances for the Magpies between 2010 and 2017, was training with his current club, Bejiing Enterprises, on Monday when he collapsed.

He was taken to hospital but sadly passed away. Cheick cemented his place in Newcastle folklore with his dramatic equaliser in the 4-4 draw against Arsenal in February 2011.”

Born in Yamoussoukro, Tioté started out playing barefoot street football at the age of 10, not owning a pair of cleats until he was 15. Tioté began his career with Ivorian minor league side FC Bibo.

Peter Sallis has died at the age of 96, his agents have announced.

According to Sallis’ agent, the actor died peacefully with his family by his side.

In a statement, Jonathan Altaras Associates said: “It is with sadness that we announce that our client Peter Sallis died peacefully, with his family by his side, at Denville Hall on Friday, 2 June.”

He is survived by his son Timothy Crispian Sallis, a British art director who has been nominated for three Academy Awards for Best Art Direction (Aliens, Driving Miss Daisy, Gladiator).

Career

Sallis was best known for voicing Wallace in the famous Wallace and Gromit cartoons and for his long-running role in Last of the Summer Wine.

Sallis portrayed Norman “Cleggy” Clegg in Last of the Summer Wine from its first episode in 1973 to the show’s conclusion in 2010. He was the only actor to appear in all 295 episodes of the sitcom.

What’s Expected

Apple CEO Tim Cook is expected to present a first look at iOS11 and macOS 10.13 when he takes center stage as the keynote speaker at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose.

Cook’s speech is expected to begin at 1:00 P.M. ET this afternoon.

The annual conference typically previews software enhancements, but this year Apple is rumored to be announcing some brand new devices. Tom’s Guide reported that Cook could introduce a new speaker that’s powered by Siri similar to Amazon’s Alexa.

Apple uses the WWDC to provide an inside glimpse at company changes and developments in operating systems.

The big story out of last year’s WWDC event was an upgrade to Apple Music, and it’s expected that this year will include updates to tvOS as Apple tries to grow the video segment of its company. That includes rumored virtual reality capabilities on iPhone 8.

WWDC runs from June 5-9.

Tim Cook

In January, Cook announced his goal to double Apple’s services revenue by 2020. Those services include the App Store, iTunes, Apple Music, Apple Pay and iCloud. Those combined revenues hit $7.17 billion in its first quarter earnings that were reported in December 2016.

Cook’s bold ambition isn’t as crazy as it might seem. The service side of the business has a reported growth of 18% year-over-year in that same quarter and new updates and developments could push that further upward.

Saul Nunez, a 19-year-old New York City teen, was arrested on Saturday, June 3, after he was seen beating an elderly man with a cane in an unprovoked attack.

According to police, Nunez, 19, from the Bronx, was charged with two counts of assault and criminal possession of a weapon. The NYPD said the attack occurred at around 6 PM on Friday, June 2.

The sidewalk was bustling with commuters when the suspect was caught on surveillance video near west 204th Street carrying a cane.

The suspect appeared to turned off camera when he apparently spotted the 90-year-old victim pushing a shopping a cart. He then proceeded to kick elderly man’s cart before beating him over the head with his cane, police said.

A good Samaritan stepped in to thwart the attack, prompting the suspect to flee westbound on Broadway.  Almost everyone in the neighborhood knows Llorens as a beloved bottle collector, so it’s no surprise several bystanders rushed to help when he was hit.

Surveillance footage shows Nunez approach Juan Llorens, 91, before kicking him and striking him on the side of his head with a cane. Llorens suffered a bloody gash on his ear that required stitches.

As for Nunez, he was arrested on Saturday and charged with felony assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Nunez is being held at Bellevue Hospital and was arraigned on Sunday.

Llorens told CBS he’s been collecting bottles and cans on that block for thirty years.
